Reviews of Bistrotheque

I appreciate the variety of the brunch menu, higher cost is due to the generous size of each plate, perhaps that's the reason why some are served on a tray. Sweet french toast is a treat, crispy duck was flavoursome but far too dry and didn't go very well with pancakes. Service is very friendly and spot-on. No signage outside can be puzzling, entrance is the first door on the left then walk upstairs. No dress code as far as I am aware, smart-looking interiors.

That was food expierience on a different level. The service is excellent, mindful and respectful. Food is absolutely amazing. Everything was very tasty and perfectly made. I even tried beans which I genuinely hate and have to admit that they were made in such a way that I could consider maybe eating them one day.. haha
The carrying waiter noticed that I was struggling a bit with my drink for a while because I wasn't a fan of the horseradish in it and was so kind to offer another different one. Frankly speaking I wouldn't complain or make a comment about it to not be fussy, so I massively appreciated his proactive approach..
The pleasant atmosphere was accompanied by live sound of piano... I don't have to comment on that , how it creates a unique feeling of beautiful moments.
The place is also pets friendly , one doggo was calmly chilling under the table, loved it so much 😍☺️

Located in a hidden location. The industrial interior is nicely decorated with proper lights. The dishes are tasty and with creativy.

Went there a few weeks back. It was an interesting night. Some aspects of the meal were great. They were having an issue with their kitchen on the night (equipment not working… fryer, I think?) but had substituted items. The staff were really attentive. The space was well laid out. Wine list had too many options that weren’t available but overall it’s still a 4.5-5 star

We had a nice dinner. We sat outside, four people. tables are small but comfortable. We had quite a typical meal, 3 starters, 4 main, 3 dessert, 4 bottle beers and 2 cocktails I believe. The reason for the 3 stars had to do with the price tho. Somehow that took us by surprise. Other than that, staff was great, food was definitely above average.
P. K.
Can’t find it? There’s no sign outside, just follow Google maps. It’s on the first floor. Fantastic place.
B.
Excellent food and service in a nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed brunch here, both food and cocktails. My only wish is that they would expand the number of vegetarian options on the menu, as they were quite limited. Otherwise, a great experience!

I think every visit is 5 star for us. More than 10 years we've been going jere and things remain quite fantastic. Pablo, Julio, Lorenzo running things at the front and simply super staff all round. Don't leave east London without going here. Sat and Sun brunch/lunch are the best

Upon the recommendation of an acquaintance we made our first visit to Bistroteque to celebrate our wedding anniversary: we are so glad we made this initial visit.
A name check and big thank you to all the great staff, especially Alex, Lorenzo ,Vasilis & the proprietor Pablo.
Incidentally, upon Vasilis' recommendation my drink of the evening is Vodka Martini: the best example of which I have ever tasted.

*UPDATE*
Got to do my birthday brunch there last year:), the food was very yummy and the atmosphere was quite nice and industrial! Too bad my schnitzel was a tiny bit too dry for me:) but I would still come back!

Having visited this restaurant three times now, I can safely confirm the quality of the food and easygoing service. Always delicious, generous portions and great drinks/ cocktails.
J. M.
Lovely interiors, attentive service and amazing brunch spot! They even have a piano player at the weekend. I would recommend sharing a few brunch plates and getting the sweet french toast with peach, it’s divine!
R. N.
Super buzzy atmosphere. With tasty food and a great fixed price menu if you aren’t looking to spend.
+ friendly team
+ great inside tables / decor
+ very good twists on some simple meals.
- perhaps for older people it’s a bit loud to hear conversations.
Highly recommend if in the East London area.
B. G.
Modern British cuisine it never disappoints. Staff is so friendly and food is great. We keep coming back... Is a hidden gem in Bethnal Green area with the best steak tartare in town end off.
L. C.
went for brunch. atmosphere was buzzy and lively, but not to the point of not being able to hold a conversation. service was very friendly. food was only average though: eggs royale were tasty but ridiculously small (I wonder if they lost half of the egg whites while poaching, but even the salmon was a tiny thin slice). avocado eggs and cornbread was a more satisfying dish (eggs still tiny) but the chilly sauce that went with them completely overpowering. we ordered dessert from the main menu as we were still super hungry: chocolate fondant was actually superb. won't go back for brunch as there are much better options in the area, but might be worth a try during the week for dinner

What a wonderful surprise. This is a hidden gem of a restaurant. The service and the food was excellent. The Vegan and vegetarian selections were really delicious (Not the usual risotto)! Will definitely be back.
A. A.
My wife brought me here for my birthday brunch and it was brilliant! Atmosphere is fantastic, bustling with energy. There is a pianist at the weekends which is a classy touch. The food is excellent but a bit pricey. It didn’t come out as hot as we’d liked and hence not quite 5 stars, but will definitely come again.
m. m.
Its loud. Lots of noise from kitchen other tables erc. Dont go for quiet conversation.
The food is good. Our group had varying dishes that were all recommendable. A downer was the wine. We ordered a Chablis from the menu, but it was out. Waiter recommended a Sancerre as replacement which we went with. Only to find that they had 1 bottle only. The other whites were not up to standard. How do you run a restaurant without a wine cellar
N. P.
We went there for brunch and ordered eggs royal and eggs Benedict. They were delicious though a bit more salty (especially the fries). The service was good but we had to wait for our table 25 min despite the fact that we had a reservation. The staff was very polite and friendly. Also, it’s quite pricey.
F. W.
Came for brunch and the pancakes were great, rhubarb and white chocolate. Eggs looked good quality too. Lovely setting with the piano player. However my friend’s cappuccino was cold and asked for another, and that one was cold too, so service could have been a bit more prompt.

One of East London's finest eateries, and what makes it so special is the lack of pretentiousness from the staff. They're genuinely amazing people who love good food and providing a great dining experience. Reasonably priced and for the ten years of so I've been eating here the menus have consistently been good. The only note is disabled access isn't available and a few more vegan options would be sweet!
D. A.
Great brunch spot - interesting choices that tasted great. Interior decor is a bit weird but they had a live pianist playing the instrumental to pop songs which was an nice touch.
K. B.
I had high expectations for this place and was unfortunately let down. The French toast was very good but the savory main was somewhere between strange and boring and not enough. I love the idea of the Mexican inspired food but it really just wasn't that good. The space is cool though.
J. N.
We had a really lovely dinner here last night. It was our first time sitting on the terrace, the atmosphere was great with good lighting and music. The food was delicious, as always, and our server was very kind.
S. S.
Love to come here for the atmosphere, service and food. The prix fixe menu of 3 courses for £25 if you order before 7pm is a fab deal. You'll need to add a side to go with your main. I enjoyed the soft cocktails especially. Nice to have so many to choose from when you're not drinking booze.
M. A.
Don't be fooled by the outside of the building, once inside you're welcomed by a nice well it room and friendly staff. Always a great atmosphere and some days you're entertained by the talented live pianist. Food is always good not matter what time of day you visit and the meal you choose. I'd suggest reasonably priced, though some may feel prices are slightly high but the overall experience makes it worth it for me. Suitable for pretty much any occasion, from brunch or dinner with a partner or a celebration with a group of friends, you can also sit at the bar and have a few drinks. The only issue is it may be hard to find for some people but definitely worth it once you do.
J. D.
Lively, hidden and pleasant. Live piano playing throughout. Pancakes excellent. Layered potato meh. Staff warm and friendly despite clear signs of a wild time the night before :)
J. M.
Up to London for Easter, we made a last minute decision to go out for a late dinner & are so glad that we chose to come here.
Some of the best veggie dishes that I've ever eaten. The tempura cabbage with parsley mayo was sublime. Lovely staff who were also very knowledgeable about each menu dish. Go. Ps the lighting's quite dim so the photos are not as good as I wanted them to be.
a. r.
Nice food, a little disappointed with wine but fine the brunch was good indeed. The portions are big enough so one platter or dish is good. Also it is freshly prepared, so quite healthy.
It’s a nice place to have a brunch.
S. P.
Everything you would want an eatery to be. Seemless service delightful menu and exquisite unique flavours. Flawless in every way and worth the prices they charge.
S. G.
Had an excellent birthday dinner here. Good value menu if you can arrive early eve.
Trendy space, casual (in a good way) service which makes a good choice for a special occasion or treat.
Highly recommended! 👍

You expect that a place with prices above the average for brunch around this area will do something special about its offer and menu - but no - quite the opposite the menu is very standard and the few dishes that stand out are a bit boring.
Regarding quality of the food - not a great selection of ingredients, and the bread was really bad - disappointing that they used regular bloody Mary mix for they cocktail. Frozen French fries - please don´t.
Service was slow and not particularly attentive or friendly. Maybe I am being too harsh, but I think they could do better.
Pity, cause I feel the place has a great potential to become a really nice French spot. Only good thing is the ambience and the space.
P. B.
Fantastic food and amazing value - the £25 prix fixe is probably the best pre post theatre menu in London! Desserts are to die for too - the chocolate cake and the Dutch pancake were superb!
N. H.
The steak tar tar is exactly what's needed on a hot evening and was married wonderfully with the house rosè. Post-gastro we migrated to the bar and had some Great cocktails! Fantastic array of flavours and colours.
Would go back!
B. C.
Amazing food and a great atmosphere. Definitely a bit of a hidden gem

This is one of the best restaurants in the area! Great service and great food 🍋🍊👌🏼
Love the white interior and how the light comes in from all the windows.
Friendly and professional staff with very quick service.
Y. O.
Good food, great service and reasonable price (if you go there before 7pm). I would definitely go back for their scallops and cod.
N. C.
Great atmosphere, especially for Sunday brunch. The food was fine, although slightly overpriced. We had some minor issues with our orders, however the manager handled it extremely well. Overall we had a lovely time and I’ll come back.
A. M.
Good food, not exactly cheap but a great atmosphere at brunch.
Definitely recommend.
D. B.
Just love this place. Great ambience, great food, great service! 👌🏼
C. M.
Love this gem! Great food in a lovely setting with friendly service! Cherry on top is the pianist!
m. t.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch. We sat outdoor and the staff service was very good. I was amazed by the freshness of products (the best tomatoes ever in London!). The confit duck was super delicious!
A. T.
+ Can highly recommend, everything we ordered was excellent
+ Good mix of meat options and vegetarian options + Really nice atmosphere, upmarket but not pretentious
Z. Z. N.
Great food. Live piano. Vibrant space (can be a bit noisy) and 💯 Service.
One of our eggs were over cooked. They took it off our bill when we mentioned it, even though we said it’s fine
M. G.
Very cool drinks. I loved it here
A. M.
Good food and service really nice atmosphere 👌
K. J.
Fab place for brunch; no sign above the door just follow the music! The French toast tastes as delicious as it looks, great poached eggs too.
N. H.
I love Bistroteque and have dined here often with friends for brunch, lunch and dinner over the years. The space, food & drinks and service are all first rate. The Chick Hen delivery service has also been great during lockdown. With such a winning formula, it’s no wonder this restaurant is an East London institution!
s. e.
Great food, lovely place and friendly staff. Cocktail are amazing, give a chance to the Winter Spritz, original and pleasant.
H. A.
We went here for a brunch and it was really good. The drinks were good and the food was fantastic.
The staff was very helpful and service was good, even though the place was crowded (make a reservation!)
During the brunch there was a guy playing the piano and the atmosphere was very nice.
The only two drawbacks I can think of was the the sound level was quite high as there was very few things to help dampen the noise and the price was a bit high. The experience was still worth it though.
J. B.
Great food and drinks. Great service.
E. Y.
Wonderful food... very unusual setting! stunning flower arrangement!
G. S.
Nice industrial place with background piano music. Dishes meticulously chosen, great service. Creme brulee was good (see pic).
E. N.
Absolutely amazing, food-wine-staff, best dining experience you can imagine. Don't miss the pannacotta!
V. V.
Really nice food and space - clean and simple design, very nice for intimate dinner. Good food and drinks to choose from, would recommend the fish and chips - very big portions and decent value!
T. M.
Really on the fence with this one on 4 or 5 stars.
The service was great and the menu varied and interesting. The food was delicious and coffee good too.
However the portions were pretty small - I left feeling hungry.
We had some mint teas and there were some tiny bugs in the tea (presumably from the fresh mint leave). Understandable, and though a wash would have gotten rid of them, it showed they are using fresh produce so wasn't a deal breaker, and the staff were so apologetic and comped all the drinks it more than made up for it, so no big deal there.
The piano music was a bit loud, and we thought too intense and fast paced for a Sunday brunch.
Overall, had any one of the negatives above not been the case, it would have been a 5 star rating, but with those three minor points it just knocks it down to a 4 for me.
I would return, but not if I were very hungry!
H. B.
We had a lovely waiter looking after us all night who was extremely attentive and followed covid distancing perfectly. There was even an extra table added to the side of us for all our meals and drinks to be placed on so he never got too close. If you're looking for a decadent but great value meal out you must try here!
K. R.
Great food and amazing service! Great spot in local east London ❤️
L. M.
Just went there for dinner with friends. Great food and great service and I have to say they really take Covid safety seriously (one way system, distancing between staff and guests via service table, hand sanitisation, actual 1m + distance between tables). I’m very very impressed, especially since a lot of other restaurants in London just don’t care at all about Covid safety.
B. L.
I have been here a few times with both big and small groups, as well as for brunch and evening meals.
I have always been impressed with the food, it is cooked well and the portion sizes are generous.
The Chef(s) and thier team consistently put out great quality food which is varied and in my opinion caters for all diets.
I would definitely recommend brunch (especially the Bistroteque breakfast paired with a bloody Mary) here for a relaxed dining experience with friends.
The staff are attentive even at busy times and I have never felt like they needed us off the table for other waiting diners.
A. C.
It's a brunch institution. Bistrotheque has been around for ages and it never disappoints. The space is bright and cool and has a great vibe. The food that we ordered was fantastic. Try the farinata or the hash brown. Or the green eggs and ham! It was all really good.
S.
Amazing and great atmosphere, staff were helpful and friendly. Definitely would recommend.
Y. B.
Great addition in East London.
Delicious French-modern fine dining. One of the best Crème brûlée I've tried in London. Atmosphere is not too formal which is nice. Friendly staff and nicely desolated interior. Highly recommended x
M. S.
Correct experience overall. I must start saying that the place has a very nice and lively atmosphere in daylight, full of young people and families, and the live piano really added to it. But perhaps it's not the best place for Saturday brunch; lunch and dinner might offer more elaborate meals. In my case, for £11.50 I had ricotta pancakes (2 pancakes per serving, could definitely add 1 or 2 more I reckon) with excellent melted white chocolate and blackberries. My 2 friends had egg dishes and said they were good, too. However, for what it's worth, we expected a bit more at least from the service. Despite making a reservation and waiting at the front desk for a while, we were sat at the bar, which is obviously fine, but possibly something that customers should be told beforehand when booking "a table". The food took about 20-30 minutes to come, which is rather longer than what brunch usually takes. And lastly, the waitress in the bar couldn't hear us at all; we had to raise our voice a couple times for her to pay attention. Other than that it was a fairly good brunch, but I'm sure you can eat better and for less, but again, I must say the place itself is lovely!

Great food, cocktails and service.

Hey guys,
This is an updated my review... I would give you 5 extra stars, this was DE-LI-CIOUS... I have a question: how could you possibly make a burger to unique the mind blowing?
I am glad this is the first of our favourite restaurant we visited after lockdown.
Service was great as well as the shrimpy's margarita.
Definitely missing the deep fried ricotta so deeply. Hope they get back soon. If you ever decide to include a sticky toffee pudding in the menu please let me know.
Review from a few years ago: Very nice place, great atmosphere and food. The deep Fried ricotta was ufff!
M. L.
We’ve ordered a couple of times from Bistrotheque during lockdown and the quality of the food and service is superb. Arrives on time and you can assemble it all on your plate to look how it would in the restaurant! And of course it all tastes great, but I really liked the potato and comte pie. Love how all of the packaging is either recyclable or compostable too.
C. P.
First time here, a friend recommended this place to me for brunch, and I LOVED IT!! We all really liked what we ordered and it's my new favourite brunch place in London!
Amazing food, great service, cool atmosphere and place.
PS - Another friend has said their non-brunch food is not as good, but I can't comment on it.
P. B.
One of the best restaurants on London, great food, great space, great service. We’ve been a few times and try to save going for a special occasion. No matter what we’ve spent we never regret it. Great restaurant.

Dinner and a show at The cockatoo makes for the most perfect evening.

Great place for brunch in the East end. Possibly the best "full English" I've ever had. Not cheap but worth the extra for the atmosphere and food quality. We brought our 1.5 year old with us and they provided a high chair. The staff were great, laid back but attentive and plenty of waves and smiles to my son, which he clearly enjoyed and distracted him from trying to pull the table cloth off the table for a minute or two! A pianist started up at 12, playing piano versions of modern pop songs which was very entertaining. Great place, definitely worth a visit. We will be back!

Just ordered online for a takeaway treat for our anniversary. The order was taken, but rejected almost an hour later, with no explanation. No one answering the phone and apparently it will take 5-10 business days to refund our money...almost £50. Not impressed
Just received a lovely email explaining that there was a technical problem last night and offering to deliver our order tonight on them. A very fast and generous solution. Thank you!
G. H.
Generally good, however a few comments:
- Slightly disappointed in the Brunch. The food was good (great hollandaise sauce) however you're ultimately getting an English muffin, ham, eggs and sauce for over £10. I understand from other reviews that prices have recently gone up as a result of business rates etc, however the brunch seems to me to be overpriced.
- The cocktails are fab. Highly recommend the Negroni.
- The service was slightly too 'eager'. We were asked if we wanted any drinks 3 times in 5 minutes, however it's not a terrible thing. Just eager to please, however we had to rush our drinks choices whilst catching up with friends on the third occasion!
- The piano is a nice touch.
- Love the minimalist approach, but perhaps give a bit more thought to the toilets. They're not in keeping with the rest of the venue.

All in all we loved the place, atmosphere and food but thought perhaps a little attention to aspects of service and communication might help. When i booked a 7pm table i don't recall being told the slots are only two hours. One of my guests ended up turning up very late but we couldn't order a meal for him because we were told we had to give up our table at 9. In fact my sister who asked about it felt the lady she spoke to came across a little rude. My sister asked about ordering a meal for the late comer towards the end of the slot and was told 'no you have to give up your table at 9pm' . It wasn't a big deal but she felt she could have been a little more polite in her response. In fact we ended up being at our table till nearly 9.20 i think without being asked to leave and we probably could have ordered the meal for the late comer after all! . With regards to the two hour slot, i cant say categorically that i wasn't told it was a two hour slot on the phone but a confirmation email from yourselves might have helped. I had to call up again just to double check the table was still booked. Anyway we still enjoyed it and would go again but felt worth pointing that out. Just a footnote i do accept your website states that evening slots are only two hours.
J. W.
The food was very good and the menu is quite original. However, we were all a little disappointed regarding the quantities. Also, it took about 3 orders to get our drinks. Otherwise nice atmosphere and lovely staff.
N. N.
We have eaten here at the end of September, I still remember how delicious it was! We both had the Prix five menu for an early dinner, and it was a-ma-zing. Especially the salmon and the pannacotta, just incredibly delicious. The setting is elegant and pared-back, and service is very good. The entrance is somewhat disguised, though- we made two rounds before we realized that what we had just passed was actually the entrance:) Anyhow, it was well worth the round!
K. I.
We never would have found this place if a friend hadn’t booked it! Really beautiful food in a simple and sophisticated setting. Higher price points than what you might expect in the area but you get what you pay for. We came for dinner but would like to come back for lunch/brunch. They also have an affordable kids menu, which is nice for a restaurant of this caliber.
T. K.
Love this place, been here a handful of times now and it never disappoints.
The food is regularly changing to meet the seasons which means I’ve never had the same dish twice. The wine list complements the menu very well and although it’s not the cheapest list in the world neither is it the most expensive.
The staff here really know the art of service, we had a very slight issue with our mains coming out and found that we had a complimentary bottle of wine without having to say a word. Very attentive and looked after.
N. P.
I visited Bistrotheque for our 5th wedding anniversary, it had been on my list to attend for a while so I was really excited about taking a visit.
My husband and I booked a Saturday afternoon slot, so we were lucky to have the live pianist playing in the background. We ordered starters, which was fine, however the main I ordered was really disappointing. I ordered chicken which was really dry and distasteful, however my husband ordered the beef which he thoroughly enjoyed. The drinks we ordered were great and so was the service. I think I may have been unlucky with my chicken however having a rare free day (without a toddler) is a rarity, I left feeling unsatisfied with my meal.
Wanting to visit? Go with an open mind, it’s worth a try however I am still yet to be convinced about giving it a second go..
J. C.
Amazing food and great ambience. Will be back xx

Great place with lovely food and drinks! We enjoyed Sunday brunch in a great atmosphere inside a refurbished warehouse. They serve different brunch options that you can enjoy with some nice cocktails. It is possible to have lunch or dinner as well, with a good variety of courses and wines in the menu. Desserts are top. Good service and average prices for London. If you are from overseas a bit more expensive than average. Better to book in advance.
N. B.
I think they have a flock of magical chickens laying their eggs because that was the best brunch we've had in ages! They've completely nailed Eggs Florentine! I had my big(ish) dog with me and it wasn't a problem, we sat with him at the bar and he snoozed while we ate. Great service and great food.
M. A.
Nice menu, overrun with attentive staff. House wine not great for £30 plus 12.5% service
T. D. O. B.
Food is good (they forgot a few of our orders, but the vibe is really nice and they let you play the piano sometimes 🤣)
F. C. M.
One of my favorite London restaurants. It's casual yet has a sophisticated, cool vibe about it. And it's not just the decor: the place delivers on the food too, with very well prepared and tasty dishes. The cocktails are also with a mention. We've normally gone there on Friday nights when it's pretty busy, but they've usually been able to find us a table or bar spot (you can also enjoy the food at the bar). Highly recommended, I hope they keep up the standard.
S. R.
Ambiance and the vibe is very nice. Food is good and staff is friendly.
S. E.
Beautiful, stylish space. The food may appear simple when looking at the menu, but the dishes are delicious and beautifully presented. My favourite was the camembert tarte with truffles. I like the fact that you can buy half a bottle of some of the wines.
I have been three times in the last two years or so and every time I was impressed!
It is pricey, and unfortunately the acoustics are such that it gets very loud.
N. K.
Delicious food, attentive staff, and vibrant atmosphere.
f. s.
I recommend this place. The menu is very interesting, it's very classic using simple ingredients, but with a refined touch. The drinks menu is nice as well, and there's a bar to enjoy drinks before sitting down at the table. Prices are on average very good for the quality. Also, the location is buzzing, pleasant and fun.
