Reviews of Boyds Grill & Wine Bar

Lovely place to go for a meal and a drink. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is great too. The staff is very helpful and the place is never very full so it's great if you don't know where to go but want a good meal. They have a great wine selection too. I see a lot of people having dinner here before going to see a show. Highly recommended

My husband's says this is 3.8 stars, the food is good, the service was pleasant, the atmosphere is pretty typical of a hotel restaurant at this level. We've eaten all over the world, so I think this is a fair representation.
P. F.
Ford quality was excellent. All of the dishes tasted great and the portions were substantial. The atmosphere is fairly quite and bordering on romantic. The feel and look of the surrounds is amazing with high quality marble work and finishings.
A. K.
Amazingly good food and very friendly service. Food is amazing and beautifully presented. Portions are good and surprisingly good value for money as well. Went here for lunch after a seminar and enjoyed every minute of it.

I could stay here all day long; the place is gorgeous and the atmosphere is lovely.
Also the staff is amazing, I've been served by Benedetta, who is an amazing waitress. I will definitely come back soon
L. D.
We had new years eve tasting menu here and the food was delicious and the service was really good. Extra thanks for the hungarian waitress who took good care of us! Thanks for the great evening Boyds!

The place is lovely; quiet and beautiful.
All the food was delicious, also, the barman and the girl who attended us were so nice with us! As my family and I aren't from London, is nice to receive great attention from the service.
I really recommend the semanal pie!
The price-quality relation is right.

It's an amazing place to sit, the inside looks amazing and some amazing features.
All of the staff were so friendly, polite and helpful.
The food was amazing. Absolutely out of this world. I had fish cake for starter (as you do at a posh place) and it was beautiful. They could do with a better selection of beers on draught and if you need the toilet you'll need a keycard for the lift. But overall a lovely place.

I've had 3 meals at Boyds now and all have been very enjoyable. It’s never been crowded, service is timely and friendly. Was served some complimentary prosecco once without request and have made had many excellent wines too.
Food is rather safe. Nothing experimental or unique but all is done well and of a good quality for what you pay.

We told our waitress that we were going to the theatre and so needed to be efficient on time, we asked for her opinion. She said we could easily fit in dessert. We ordered dessert on that basis but had to wait way too long for it. In the end we had to inhale our desserts which was unpleasant. If we had known how long it would take to be given the desserts we ordered we would not have ordered them. My son had to run to the theatre ahead of us. All very unfortunate and easily avoidable. The room is stunning and the pre-theatre menu is good. Such a shame about the slow service.
C. W.
Ordered fillet steak with sweet potatoe fries. Quality of the steak is excellent. I could tell it would be by the general set up of the restaurant.
Decor feels regal. Classy touch.
M. T.
There wasn't a thing on the menu that wasn't bursting with flavor. Beyond that, it's clear the kitchen is being run quite well and is doing as much as possible to provide not only a top quality tasting meal, but also an aesthetically pleasing one to the eye. The wine selection was quite nice, and the mixology was spot on.

Great. We came here through an Open Table search. There was a little awkwardness as we arrived because we were definitely dressed more on the casual side, but after it was determined we had a reservation, all was fine. Once seated, we were impressed with the attentiveness, the food and the pace of service. Great food, sourced " within 150 miles" of the restaurant, we were told. It certainly was fresh and flavorful. Have the syrup sponge for desert, just because it is so British and you will not need sugar for a week ! Would definitely come again. P.S. Thanks for the free Champagne to Celebrate the marriage of me and my Husband.

Place was chosen due to location in few minutes from National Gallery. Quite good quality steaks, quite nice interior in drink & eat format. Not perfect place without special atmosphere, but still fair option for eating in very center.

We visited Boyd's before seeing a show, they offer a good pre-show menu to get you in and out before showtime. The restaurant is centrally located for anyone going to a theatre near cogent garden.
Decoration wise, the walls look grand and in touch with the building, but the plastic 'chic' chairs made it feel a little like sitting in a garden chair.
Food wise, it was great. We ended up doing tapas dishes as we'd only eaten lunch a few hours before, this seemed to anger the waiter and from there in out the service was unfriendly and poor. It's a shame that the staff brought down the whole experience.
D. B.
We stopped briefly for a cocktail waiting for our place at the nearby Pizzeria. The environment is elegant and relaxed, the plates we saw floating around seemed appetising and the cocktails were good, although too expensive at 14 quid each.
G. Q.
Great venue for cocktails. Their Espresso martini is especially good, albeit it a little pricey. Can be a bit cold inside due to the high ceilings, but great place and not very busy. Check your receipt though as we were overcharged and had to point it out to the bar staff, who were very apologetic and rectified the matter straight away.

Went for the pre-theatre menu (pre 7pm). Menu has a good selection and offers outstanding value for money overall for average food in an above average location and setting.
Starters were excellent - white bean and chorizo soup and the cheese and meat platter.
Mains were disappointing - the rump steak was listed on the menu as 200g but was only a shade over 100g as served. Definitely not the best rump I've had. Chips were great.
Others had lamb chop - a bit dry. Nothing worth noting
Deserts - cheesecake and crumble - cheesecake had a soapy tasting pistachio filling and the crumble while nice was far too sweet.

It was a great dining experience. Incredibly friendly service, Goda was such a personable and bubbly server. Great food, great atmosphere, and overall just had a nice time for my last night in London visiting from the United States at this location. :) You won't regret it! Great food as well.
B. A.
It is in an excellent location and easy to get to. Charing Cross Station and the National Portrait Gallery are nearby. So this bar-restaurant is part of a hotel and located just past the spacious lobby. Not much in the way of seating space but it has a sense of exclusivity about it. Can be hired for small parties.
Z. D.
A really nice swanky hotel bar. It's a bit pricier than your average London bar, but doesn't veer into crazy prices. The decor is beautiful and the service excellent. It's quite small, but makes good use of the space - with a nice atmosphere that is never to quiet nor too loud. One annoyance is that the toilets are really complex to get to, which is very annoying.
P. T.
This was recommended as a great place to get a steak, which it certainly was. The ambience is excellent as was the service & the steaks. The only things that led me to give a 4 star rather than 5 star rating were: (i) Grossly overpriced wines with a Malbec that I selected not worthy of the name; (ii) No green vegetables of any sort on the menu. I am at a loss to understand why not
C. A.
Beautiful architecture, a good chef and some delicious interpretations of British classics. A quiet retreat, just steps away from the madding crowd and a good place to chat in peace beneath marble columns and chandeliers. A great find.
L. R. S.
I went there last night with my mum before our show. We ate from the pre theatre menu at 5pm and the food was outstanding! The service was perfect - not too much annoying attention but always there when needed and knowledgable about the food. The food was ready quickly but we didn't feel rushed either. Nice atmosphere, posh but not too snooty. Definitely recommend and will be back if I'm in the area.
E. B.
Went for the 50 sharer meat meal. Service was pretty poor, waiting for ages to order out food. Had a drink in the lounge bit before and took ages to get a drink, it wasn't that busy but maybe new staff taking a while to find their feet. Food was OK. Most of the meat was tender but a smoked frankfurter was a bit odd. Atmosphere wasn't great.
D. W.
Very pricey, good service, decent food. I know the theater area is going to be expensive, but plastic chairs and charging extra for a bbq sauce when the sides are already priced separate from the mains is excessive. Menu has little to no creativity. Lamb was fine if a bit over cooked for med-rare, apple slaw was good (partner didn't like it at all). If it was 1/4-1/3 cheaper and there were no plastic chairs, it might be fine when you want a simple meal.
A. B.
Good value lunch menu, was surprised how quiet it was actually. Slightly uncomfortable plastic chairs in some tables, but not critical. Food nice, had sausage and mash and was lovely.
L.
I booked this restaurant because of the reviews and I certainly wasn't disappointed.
The food and the setting is perfect. Thank you to the staff for making my husbands birthday extra special 😍
J. B.
I have eaten at Boyds many times and never cease to be surprised at this hidden gem.
Just a few minutes away from Trafalgar Square it is a haven of elegance & sophistication.
The extensive British menu caters for everyone, and the recent addition of the adult ice cream bar is exciting.
I have always been more than happy with the food & the service, and for the location and quality I think the prices are reasonable.
E. F.
There is a calm nice atmosphere which is hard to get in zone 1. The food is good. The deserts are often risky and maybe a bit too adventurous. The mains are normally pretty good. Service is pretty good or not good
M. W.
Not a bad little restaurant, staff were friendly on arrival (Steve in particular, who served me). I ordered the rib eye medium rare, it was probably slightly under cooked, and a little too fatty, but it was nice enough. The pork chops looked really nice, and I kind of wished I'd ordered that.
Quite a big discount if you have one of those Taste Cards.
S. T.
I went for valentines day 2013.
It was wonderful. The food was perfect and so was the service! Small place so I don't think you can go with out a reservation.
Beautiful restaurant.
My bill came to just under £100 for two. That is including a bottle of rose.
D. P.
This is one of those "Gems" you find on Tastecard, having been in the area with a few friends, we were looking at places to go and this came up on the app, we thought it might be a bit expensive and fancy even on Tastecard.
We are so glad we did, the reason it was empty not because of the price, which was reasonable actually without a discount, is was I think on a weeknight it is only full of hotel guests. I for one am okay with this, if I can still go back in the future!
The waiting staff were courteous, didn't look down on us as we all looked liked riffraff rather than most of the guests who stayed there, they were funny and helpful throughout.
The wine selection started at around £25 and so reasonable if you are getting half price food, so we had a bottle to share.
The food was amazing, so good, the moment it arrived, we just wanted more, so did the whole 3 courses and debated a cheese course!
If you are looking for an amazing meal, amazing date or just a great experience, I'd highly recommend popping in here as opposed to anywhere else in the area.
S. F.
Outstanding. Great food, fantastic wine by glass selection, great atmosphere, great service and all at a surprisingly decent price - Can't wait to go back and explore the rest of the Menu. Only problem being they are now closed for renovations until the 18th January 2016. Highly recommended!!
R. s.
Lovely place, Excellent French Manager with great knowledge. Lovely Italian lady made us the best Espresso Martini's we've ever had. All made for a perfect evening in the hidden gem
P. C.
The pictures are a little misleading. This place is quite small and only holds about 15 tables. Steaks were good but nothing spectacular. Service was attentive and slightly apologetic. Felt over priced for what it was.
E. M.
Booked for my Christmas work do. Highly recommend. Great space. Staff are excellent and the food was really very good. Can't fault the night :)
A. L.
Great staff. Amazing wine. Incredible decor
P. A.
Fabulous. Highly recommended by my colleague and ended with beyond the expectation. One of the best restaurants in London with the unique food style and exotic wines. Very friendly staffs.
F. K.
Really like the decor and the place, but wasn't really impressed by the food.
The service is really good IF you manage to get one of the several waiters attention (which is supposed to be quite easy when there is only 10 guests)
A. M.
Lovely setting and nice ambience. Went for pre theatre menu. Had the sea trout with cockles. Lovely. Service was pretty good ( included in bill). Would return
K. O.
The service and food was very good and the pre show menu had lots of options. The only exception to the otherwise excellent meal was that the steak was very salty, otherwise it would be 5 stars.
J. N.
Amazing marble décor, friendly staff, great wine list, fun ice cream bar. Great champagne bar after work, efficient reasonably priced and top quality pre theatre and classy dinners.
T. S.
Great decor, good food. Peculiar service e.g. "still or sparkling water?" - still ; after 5min "sorry I forgot, still or sparkling water?" - still; 5min, another waiter brings bottle of sparking water; comes back with bottle of still water; then serves tap water in the glass; bill of course lists sparking water. Entertaining, I guess if you are into comedies.
F. S.
We have been there for my wife's birthday, amazing food. Benedetta carried out a wonderful service. We will be back soon.
M. C.
Very elegant dining room but orders fast and delicious meals. Ideal as a venue to have a good but quick meal before going to a theatre show.
J. W.
Our waitress was sweet and extremely personable. The food was delicious and we left completely satisfied. Excellent place to treat yourself.
C. L.
Simple food nicely done, nothing spectacular. Lovely setting, quiet bustle. Good wine and service very accommodating with a smile.
P. V.
I hate to be superfluous but this is the best restaurant in London. From the knowledge of the staffs down to the local and creative food, there is no place better to go for a special occasion. So good. Unparalleled. Worth a visit to London.
A. H.
It's a smart but relaxed bar with restaurant in an upmarket hotel. The service was very good, prompt, friendly and accurate. The food was very enjoyable.
d. w.
Had a fantastic meal, quite late in the evening and they had been busy to I can excuse the bit of mess and the chaotic service. Food was great and atmosphere better.
A. M.
Affordable pre theatre menu or spend a few quid. Either way great place and worth a visit. Beautiful room and great service.
C. H.
Nice quiet place for a pre dinner/theatre drink. Nice selection of cocktails. Great service. Free nibbles.
R. B.
Excellent birthday meal with my wife, great staff, wonderful wine and cocktails and the best beef fillet yet. Great fun.
D. A.
Stayed at Club Quarters Hotel and had buffet breakfasts here.
It's a good size and the food was good - everything you wanted in a good breakfast.
C. B.
Amazing food, the best selection of wines and great staff! The Boyds events are one to look out for too, a great evening out.
N. R.
The lamb it's the best thing on the menu, very jucy and tasty!! Love it, also the atmosphere it's really nice and the attention was excellent!
H. P.
I like the lounge which is great for meetings. One of the few bars around London where you don't have to shout to be heard.
Good service too
A. W.
The food is outstanding with great service and wine list to match. Recommend to anyone in central London and go for the water buffalo!
E. F.
Amazing service and a good menu. The restaurant is relaxed but retains a special night out atmosphere
