Reviews of Cellarium Cafe & Terrace
A. P.
Location and decor very nice and cosy but also cool.
Food itself is quite basic and very expensive for what they serve.
New york sandwich looked good and tasted good but not worth £9.50.
Orzo salad was nice but again very simple and could definitely make myself at home.
Menu range very small.

For a warm, hearty afternoon lunch on a chilly day, the Cellarium Café & Terrace checked my boxes. I could hardly finish the entire order, even with the help of my dining companion!
I chose the orzo pasta, mixed leaves salad, with heritage tomatoes and avocado, a vegan-friendly option. Mostly salad and vegetable with some orzo pasta sprinkled in for texture and flavor, I savored the results. The balsamic dressing blended with the juicy tomato and hearty avocado to produce a thoroughly filling entrée. I also sampled some of my traveling companion's Mushroom Soup of the Day, which carried a warm, hearty, granulated texture--perfect for a cold day in March.
On the side, my traveling companion and I split the Cream Tea, which, in my opinion, is the Cellarium's real show-stopper. Simple and sweet, the scones carry an almost biscuit-like texture with soft interiors and lightly crusted exteriors. Spread with buttery clotted cream and fruity-tart jam, they went down beautifully over sips of earthy English Breakfast tea.
If you're touring Westminster Abbey, the Cellarium serves as an excellent luncheon grounds, if, for nothing else, because the space dates back to the 4th century where the monks kept their stores of food and drink. That, and you're helping to support the establishment itself, which ought to make every bite a bit sweeter and more savory.

Afternoon tea is a wonderful experience here. Scones are tasty, tea is fresh, and service is friendly. A lovely way to spend an afternoon visiting with my family.
P. S.
Welcome rest with tea and cakes after a couple of hours visit to the Abbey. Good quality at reasonable prices.
K. Y.
Service is slow but the prices for the location is decent. Ordered the salmon. It was a bit dry and the root vegetables were sandy. The root was still attached. For the price, it’s not bad considering how airy and quiet the cafe is. Still water is £2.75 per bottle and pots of tea are £3.
R. F.
Nice place to have lunch after the Westminster abbey visit
The must: a glass of wine offered for a starter + a plate = 17£

Great atmosphere and amazing food! Got three appetisers for the table, every one was well crafted and delicious. This restaurant caters well to vegetarians. My pasta dish had nice flavour and great cheese. It was so good I had to slow myself down. Great place!
A. B.
Lovely piece of moist carrot cake & a decent coffee. The manager juggling the seating on arrival was doing her best to accommodate everyone's request. I was alone and only waited 5 mins. I asked for sweetener rather than sugar, and the waitress could only huff. They don't seem to have it. I think her attitude was about the lack of it rather than me asking, although no actual apology. Overall a lovely environment and the menu looks great. I just wasn't hungry enough for a lunch meal.
The staff have improved incredibly.
K. A.
Lovely place for lunch or coffee inside of the beautiful interiors. Strongly recommend to anyone who visits Westminster Abbey
L. S.
The food was delicious and the service brilliant, a very enjoyable meal in nice surrounding.
R. L.
Very clean. Kind and friendly staff and had an amazing latte. Excellent environment for a meeting if catch up. Highly recommended
M. B.
Every June I bring a large group of study abroad students to the Cellarium Cafe before services at the Abbey. Today I brought 15 students with me to the Cafe prior to the 5pm Evensong service. Maitre d' Salvatore did a marvelous job (as always) in creating a tea and cakes service that pleased all the students at a reasonable cost to me. Don't hesitate to ask for Salvatore, he will take care you!
M. K.
Good food, reasonable price and a lovely dinning area. Does get busy so service can be slow
J. K.
Nice bacon sandwich and a coffee. Friendly staff.
J. M.
This was a fantastic find! Really quaint, low key and excellent value. Food was great!
S. M.
Very nice place for a cup of coffee/thea and good breakfast too.
A. S.
Surprising great food at the Westminster Abbey, have kids menu also.
D. I. M.
This place looks wonderful! The food was delicious. We had their English Breakfast and it was delicious. In fact, everything was so good that we came back for the Tea and the experience was even better. The staff was very nice, and the service was not slow at all, although one person there had a limited command of the English language, but not enough to taint the service in any way. The price was also good, so there is also added value in coming here. This is a fine place I can recommend!
B. G.
What a cool place. What a fantastic idea. My daughter and I had a great time eating there. The menu items were wonderful. They were fresh and tasty. Hot food was hot cold food was cold. The staff was great and helped us at every turn. They were very friendly. Can't wait to go back one day.
P. W.
A great find! With excellent value and quality for all the family! We were wet, tired and fed up and with no sign of a food stop near by we were getting grumpier by the minute! Then we stumnled on this spot ... Helping weary travellers as it has done for centuries! The afternoon tea looked particularly civilized.
D. T.
Good good, if a little uninspiring. Service good!
D. M.
Great setting, the cafe is located within a very old room with vaulted ceiling. Served quickly and good menu. Pot of tea £2.95, so not cheap, but location makes up for it. Carrot cake very good and quite a size.

The cafe has a great atmosphere and it's nice that the tables are all quite big and you share with other people in the cafe. We shared with elderly couple and had a little chat with them. We had scones (you get two per order) and coffee and tea. They were all quite tasty. The staff are friendly too though when we were there they seemed a bit overwhelmed even though it wasn't that busy.
J. P.
Unique place with a reliable canteen-like lunch in an amazing location sandwiched between the roofy bits of Westminster Abbey.
N. P.
We went with my 2 children and their friend. There was about 10 minutes wait for a table. Children's menu was nice on choice of children's favorite but no set menu. Service was polite, quick. It was very hot day, the air conditioning worked very good, we even felt cold.
We got a side of the large table. Interesing idea to share a table, gives historic feel.
My salmon was cooked just perfect. I really enjoyed it. Reccomend it for a main meal. I also had very nice strong filter coffee.
The interiors are bright, with light wood and atmospheric photoprints. There is a terrace, I really want to come back to sit on a terrace.
K. W.
I personally liked the little food place Westminster Abbey had put in place. Although this is a marked improvement, a "real" restaurant, I would have preferred to sit outside and grab a snack, to sitting in a restaurant. But, as far as restaurants go, the food was good and the service wasn't bad. Prices were what you'd expect. It was more upscale than I would have liked.
M. D.
This is a hidden little gem. We went for a breakfast meeting and were met with friendly staff who were very attentive without being over-bearing. The tea and french toast come highly recommended and I enjoyed their toast.
The atmosphere is very much as you'd expect for Westminster Abbey - grand and historical. You're allowed access to a shop but not to the Abbey.
A. W.
What a beautiful hidden gem! This cafe is NOT in the main Abbey entrance, but around the side and through a separate entrance. Because of that, it isn’t as touristy and definitely is much calmer than the outside surroundings. Food was terrific and service was very nice.
Skip the Abbey cafe and go find Cellarium!
J. K.
Location is nice and quite. Food is good and tasty. Service is friendly. We went here with a group of 3 and had a good time. Only the loo could be more clean and needs a bit tending to.
C. O.
Ordered afternoon tea and specified a “nut-free” tray for our children. One item set off a mild allergic reaction that the manager insisted could only be a cross contamination- the kitchen manager came out later and apologized that there was almond flour in it. Anyway, I’m not ‘flaming’ them because the experience was mostly nice and the managers really tried to handle things properly. Wish the kitchen staff had been better trained to differentiate between the items proffered.
A. Y.
I have been in London twice. This was the most satisfying meal so far. I had the 3 course menu. Everything was yummy and I wanted to have more. Grilled veggies to stay, crispy salmon and sticky toffee pudding. Tea was the best as well.
L. E.
A friend and I celebrated out birthdays with afternoon tea at the Cellarium. The staff was wonderfully courteous and ensured we had a great time. The food was excellent and the view amazing. If you're there on a sunny day, ask to sit on the outdoor patio upstairs - you can view the top of the Abbey and hear choir practice coming over the walls. The price (about 16 pounds for afternoon tea) was also pretty reasonable.
B. T.
This was absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious and beautifully served. The wait staff was attentive but not overbearing. The atmosphere was quite lovely. I highly recommend Cellarium Cafe!
R. H.
Took my mum for afternoon tea on a visit to London.
Gorgeous food and the staff couldn't do enough to help us, even though they were really busy. The cakes were amazing!!!
K. V.
Called in during the last hour before it closed. Service good, but unfortunately a few items were no longer available. Interesting setting within Westminster Abbey, clean and bright. Located just where we needed a rest after the tour of the Abbey.
D.
This is the most uneven place on earth. The service is abysmal. And then the next day It's pretty good. So you just take your chances. Today we are having tea and scones while we wait for evensong. Surely these scones are many days old. A seated knife would be appropriate. Earlier in the week they were much better. So ... The place is uneven. But is surely in the right place.
.
L. D.
Very nice place, feels like a church or catholic school for children.
The staff was very kind.
I had coffee and two muffins, later the muffins made me sick, but I don't know then I was allergic to gluten.
A. M.
Good food! Everybody is very kind and ready to help. We were a group of 29 and they made it possible for us. We ate on the first floor and it looked a little like a cafeteria... But it's clean and the service is fast.
S. S.
Good atmosphere and as a cafe works well. Pass on the lunch. I had Sunday roast and the pork belly was just a heart attack on a plate. My companion's salmon dish was even worse, mash that smelled of margarine and overcooked fish. Still better than most pubs I suppose.
A. D.
Used this place for a business breakfast and lunch. Great venue and excellent food. It can get a little noisy if there is a party of people/children in but overall it is a very good place and a wonderful setting
H. G.
Coffee, teas, drinks and food are great. Service is fast and environment is better than many run of the mill coffee shops being hidden away. Great for work meetings or brunch with friends
M. T.
Nice food in a nice atmosphere. I'd like to say it was relaxed, which it was, but there was actually incredibly slow service at the time we visited. Worth a visit, though, if you are not in a rush!
S. J.
Cosy and interesting location with tasty food. I've been before and had French toast which was delicious. Had scones this time and they were tasty. Service could definitely be a little friendlier but it is ok!
J. W.
Wonderful place. Lovely menu and great service. Highly recommend the set lunch with a glass of wine. Made our whistle stop visit to London even nicer
D. F.
Good quality fine food. Not a great assortment.
There is a set menu of 2 dishes for 17£ and small kids get a free snack.
Excellent tea time cakes.
K. E.
The upstairs dining area is fantastic, has lovely views of the Abbey and service is good. Downstairs is a lot more crowded and stressful. Best to book and ask to be seated upstairs.
B. H. S.
Charming place for breakfast (not crowded on weekday mornings). Service is a little slow but food is great. It's a little hard to find (you have to go through the arch and past the booth for security and turn left, then you'll see a sign for it).
N. M.
Nice and quiet place in the very heart of Westminster Abbey with good food, big portions and excellently refreshing juice mixes.
The staff is also worth mentioning as being very friendly.
S. A. S.
Found this little place when the opened on a Saturday morning. Traditional English breakfast was very good, excellent coffee. The service was minimalisistic, but the room is amazing. It's surprisingly affordable for the quality.
B. N.
This is the restaurant associated with Westminster Abbey. Food was ok but I marked them down as I have an aversion to food advertised as a pie when in fact it is basically, in this case, chicken and leek casserole poured in a bowl with a disc of flaky pastry placed on top. A pie should have pastry top and bottom. And to cap it all the chicken and leek casserole was quite bland. Staff were friendly and helpful.
R. S.
Great atmosphere!
Amazing coffee !
Staff is the best !
P. L.
Good quality, exceptional site but for what you got on the plate, it is extraordinary expensive. Paid 12,5£ for two slices of bread and still hungry afterward. Fortunately, the coffees, cakes and soups are affordable.
W. E.
It took ages for me to get served even though it wasn't busy. The staff didn't seem at all intersted and I wondered if it was because I was dining alone. I thought it was overpriced, even by London standards.
M. C.
Great hidden location behind Westminster Cathedral. You have to walk through the archway and turn left which may put people off. Historic vault structure, booking required for upstairs part which is more modern and has a lot of glass and hence more sunlight. Varied menu from porridge, cakes and yummy soups.
L. W.
Ok experience. Good Food. Service was little slow at times but overall had a nice time! would be happy to return on my next visit to london.
D. M.
Good food! However the service was quite slow and our waiter came off a little unfriendly. I would still recommend this place though and you can support the church by eating here.
G.
Victoria sponge cake was okay. Brownie was ok. Salad was small. Waiters were slow and ignored us. The venue is way cool though.
Z.
Good food and reasonable prices for being a location that could easily be a tourist trap. The fish pie was really good and the desserts were excellent.
C. T.
Very pleasant eatery. Had Lamb roast Sunday lunch which was excellent. Shame the air conditioning was not working on the invest day so far this year!
K.
A delightful hidden haven right in Westminster. Righteous eggs benedict and smoothies. Expect security guards at the entrance and top toffs for company. Pretty reasonable prices for the area.
R. Y.
I preferred upstairs than downstairs caf. I'd reservation at 2pm on Monday, the
line still long and service a bit slow too. Food is good and their afernoon tea is reasonable.
C. S.
Lovely quiet vibe and good grub in heart of Westminster
a. h.
Excellent place for a lovely lunch in town. Outstanding food, beautiful service, excellent vegan menu! Definitely recommend it! A true gem 😀
B. W.
Great place right in Deans courtyard next to Westminster Abby.
D. F.
What a wonderful place! They have many delicious dishes and everything is really very attractive. I have enjoyed their special dish at noon.
B. K.
Great place to get a nice breakfast. Come early as it can get packed. It's also really neat to eat under Westminster Abbey.
J. F.
Wonderful atmosphere and excellent food. We stopped by for cream tea and it was well worth the few pounds per person.
V. W.
Such a lovely place to have lunch. Make sure you book so you can sit upstairs. The food is delicious!
A. K.
Nice food, pasta dish tasty and quiche with salad leaves looked good, though a little expensive.
Nice atmosphere too.
V. P.
Afternoon tea was very pleasant and well done. Server was very kind and we greatly appreciated the free plate for our 18 month old!
F. F.
I went there for third time. Breakfast was delicious. Great services. Staff were polite.
P. S.
Great cafe with light meal options. A welcome break from heavy pub food. Fish and chips are average. Deserts are excellent
G. H.
Very nice, enjoyed an afternoon tea after visiting Westminster Abbey of which the Cellarium is the old refectory of the abbey in the times gone past when monks lived here.
W. U.
Hidden gem, hard to find in the Dean's Yard but worth it. The roast duck pie and grilled salmon were very good, the place was quiet.
A. C.
nice food and quality
d. k.
Lovely friendly staff nice place to sit have a cuppa and bite to eat i had hot choc and a slice of lemon drizzle cake absolutly yummy only complaint would be the prices as yummy as cake was and as beautiful as the hot choc was and in very fussy on my hot choc your price list leaves alot to be desired i get given your unique location and fact of it being in london our nations capital not that that should make any difference tbh nearly 30 pound for 2 hot chocs 1 coffee 1 tea 3 slices cake and a shortbread is a lil bit much to put in to perspective i can do half a weekly shop for that i realise that cost of living in london is different than us up north but without us up north and surrounding areas london wouldnt have tourism as much as it has could maybee offer concessions ie those of us who are not as fortunate as others health or job wise or british citizens or those who have passes and already been around the atraction get discounted price just a sugestion as its only price that has made difference to review hopefuly something to look at
H. K.
Had lunch with a group of 50, from the summer set menu. Food was good and the service organised and attentive. Only issue, not enough loos.
I. S.
Food was decent, but overpriced. Staff was a little slow and the entrance was a little hard to find.
L. F.
Excellent location in an iconic location, great choice for breakfast. Friendly efficient service and reasonable prices. Recommended.
h. k.
Good service, great French toast and bacon, girlfriend had the avocado toast and poached eggs, great food at a reasonable price
K. M.
Good atmosphere and breakfast.
B. C.
Cafe on the site of Westminster abbey. Food expensive , but probably about right for location . £4.50 for a slice of cake. Had kids in tow so opted for McDonald's. Probably saved £30.
A. M.
I had cream tea, and the scones were fresh. Service was very quick even though the place was packed.
L. P.
Beautiful spot for a delicious lunch and afternoon tea with scones and clotted cream. Not at all crowded, even at lunch time.
C. B.
went there for evening coffee. nice place. but service little bit slow. overall experience good.
C. H.
Lovely lunch, clean, good service, reasonably priced, pleasant ambience, liked the view of Westminster Abbey.
D. H.
Staff are very professional and the food is wonderfully done. Lost a star for cost but given the location it is understandable
W. M.
Not a lot of variety for main meals, but lots of cakes and puddings. Afternoon tea is nice for the price, but nothing special.
E. G. L.
After to visit Westminster Abbey you can have a break at the Cellarium Café Terrace and enjoy a lunch, afternoon Tea or dinner, it is part of the 14th Century fabric of Westminster Abbey and once used to store the monk's food and drink.
S. P.
Very tasty food in a pretty unique atmosphere and setting. Worth checking out.
M. S.
Pleasant place to eat but the service was slow. Good if you're not in a hurry.
T. J. B.
Very good breakfast and a great way to start the day before a walk through the Abbey!
C. A.
This cafe is downstairs at The Westminster Abbey .
Lines for this cafe could be long and service could be slow too. Food is good and their tea time is awesome.
S. S.
Stunning location and friendly staff don't quite make up for being wildly over-priced. On the other hand, this keeps it a relatively quiet and stress-free place to relax.
A. C.
Lovely place hidden away from the maddening crowd. Staff are wonderful and the food delicious. Now for a bit more investigating.
R. K.

Bit of a mixed experience due to one bad waiter, but overall a very nice place. The service was, for the most part, great (especially the gentleman with glasses who took our orders), and the food was enjoyable. Sadly, the experience was mostly ruined by the waiter who took our payment. The man, quite tall, dark haired, with beard, was very aggressive. He evidently misheard us when we told him the amount we wished to pay, which can happen and wouldn't have really been an issue, but when we mentioned this to him he got very defensive, insisted this was the amount we had requested, sighed heavily multiple times, loomed over us, and and was generally quite curt. I understand that anyone can have a bad day, but this really made us uncomfortable, and it would have been a non-issue if he hadn't reacted so badly.

(Translated) A pleasant surprise, at one end of the beautiful cloister of Westminster Abbey. Excellent food and drink card, fine for a nice breakfast, a lunch between visits and the other as a snack. Appetizing cakes, juices and centrifuged healthy and, which does not hurt at all, a good espresso. Greetings to the very nice waiter from Salerno, a ray of sunshine in the rainy London (although when we went the weather was beautiful !!!!)

(Translated) Rather long service and a little lacking in professionalism (we lose our order, we then take ten minutes to tell us that there is no more lemonade, we are brought a fork for a chocolate mousse etc) but the waitress does not no ill will to serve us anyway.
In addition, the salmon and the lemon / white chocolate mousse are absolutely delicious. The price / quality ratio is ok, especially for the location. The setting is very beautiful.

(Translated) The food is delicious, at least the meat sandwich. The menu costs £ 17, I think it's an excessive price. The letter is not very extensive. The worst part of our visit was that the waiter ignored us completely and we waited a long time between courses and forever to pay. I would not repeat my experience there.

(Translated) It is a small cafe located in Westminster Abbey. Admission is free and is on the side of the Abbey, but we have to tell the guard at the door that we want to go to the cafeteria. A historic place to enjoy a good tea and typical English pasta like scones or lemon cake. The tea or coffee is about £ 3 and the sweets are about £ 3 per unit. You can enjoy the famous Afternoon tea or the Cream tea: a selection of pastas and sandwiches with tea or coffee. We tried the Cream tea and it was about £ 7.5. Delicious! All an experience, we will repeat.
