Reviews of Chanteroy Southfields
J. W.
At first glance, I thought it is a French corner shop only. In fact, it also serves good pastries, quiche and baguette.
S. g.
Beautiful fresh baguette with the best Mayo in town would highly recommend, happy friendly staff have been multiple times and will contribute to do so 10/10 very reasonably priced also
D. T.
Best bread this side of the channel! Wonderful little shop with loads of French products, pastries, cheese, quiches and the best sandwiches. Definitely my favourite lunch treat in London.
J. A.
The most incredibly tasty French bread, lovely desserts and pastries, plus a good selection of French goods on the shelves in the back that can’t be found in UK supermarkets. So lucky to have this place in the area.
M. D.
The cakes are excellent - traditional French-style patisserie. I tried a savoury pastry which was less good. But the off putting thing is the state of the sink behind the counter - not tiled and flaking paint. A quaint place but could do with a refurb!
C. N.
Amazing baguettes at such a good price. Get there early to miss the line.
A. B.
Delightful little deli with superb french produce and reasonable prices. They have a wide assortment of baguette fillings - again very reasonably priced and good value. The establishment is clean and the staff have always been courteous. Amazing patisserie selection - my favourites are the raspberry tart and coffee eclair 😊
L. K.
The best place for a sandwich/baguette in Southfields. Loads of fresh fillings to choose from including salami, chicken and roast beef, all the cheeses and salad. Very reasonably priced. Go early to avoid the queue (before midday).
R. R.
Great pastries and desserts! Keep going back for the sweet treats! 🍰
S. M.
As close to a true French baguette as I've got in South West London and all at a reasonable price. And then there are the croissants and pains au chocolat; just amazing! If you like French patisserie the French way, this is the place for you
N. D.
A little diamond deli in the middle of Southfields. Best croissants and other pastries, best half-baguette sandwiches (just look at the weekday queue), fabulous individual desserts and a whole French load more.
M. C.
The croissants here must be the best in London... this is a wonderful little place to pick up pastries for breakfast or lunch, or indeed to have a sandwich made up - they are superb and stuffed full of delicious ingredients! You just have to get there early to get the croissants as they go quickly!
D. H.
Getting lunch can be a slow experience, but it's definitely worth the wait. Great quality ingredients and really good prices for their baguettes. Plenty of excellent desserts too. Would recommend for a lunch visit.
C. B.
Love this place!!! I was introduced to Chanteroy about 2 years ago when I moved to the area and needless to say this has not been great for the waist line or bank balance! The pear tart, strawberry tart, chocolate mousse and chocolate cake/brownie slice are my favourite, but having said that I have not yet been disappointed with anything from here. The baguettes are delicious, a generous size and reasonable to boot! Despite some reviews on here I have never been treated badly or experienced rude staff?? And I love that the staff are French, it adds to the authenticity of the place!
N. S.
If you want great tasting banquettes with a generous amount of ingredients including a reasonable price then this is the place to come.
This is very much a hidden gem!
Don't bother with a supermarket meal deal. Don't bother with those restaurants/cafés who try to posh up baquettes, this place smashes then out the park!
L. A.
The baguettes are amazing! They fill them to order and everything is so fresh and tasty. I like to buy bread there too. They have such a lovely selection at really reasonable prices.
A. N.
This is a great little local deli that do cheap and tasty baguettes plus all manner of yummy tarts and pastries all very reasonably priced. Their almond and chocolate croissant is heavenly and they are always popular for those in the know. Best value and quality by far
R. J.
I am happy to go out of my way to have a baguette from here. Wonderful taste and great price. Pate is my favourite. French service levels!
Shop is very small and you will be crowded in while being served and paying but definitely worth it.
C. M.
Best baguettes in SW London! Amazing taste and so cheap! Best time to go- week day as weekends there are usually long queue. Also do great pastries. Staff are very French and unfortunately can be rather moody!! Can't beat the authenticity and great value though.
f.
Its French, 100% in fact, great pastries, bread and the panini's are generously filled! Good price also. Service is typically French which adds to the whole experience, i personally like it. Unique queue line up and does get roasting in the summer, viva la francais !
J. R.
Let's face it. The place is not glamorous or spacious. But that does not matter. They provide the best croissants and pain au chocolate this side of the channel and this at an unbeatable price. I also strongly recommend the Quiches.
K. S.
This is the kind of little gem that London needs more of, it's an authentic slice of France in SW18. Very reasonable prices and good quality, honest food. The queues out of the door are no surprise... People with understanding will give it 5 stars. People who give 1 star reviews should probably go back to the big high-street chains that they came from... Keep going Chanteroy!
K. T.
The queue to get in pre-dates the pandemic and forms for a reason!
Brilliant baguette sandwiches.
And all the food and drink a Francophile could desire.
S. O.
Regularly buy their cakes and they are fab! Whether they are topped with peach and plums or pears/fruits they just taste fab and fresh! Not too buttery either which I was expecting to find in French patisserie. Baguettes are great too, filled up with lovely freshly cut salami and full of salad!
I agree with one of the previous reviews, the place could do with some more cleaning. Dont think it necessarily needs a refurb, I like the look of it, if it was refurbished it'd probably lose that vibe. Regarding the staff, I really do not think you can judge the staff from a British Customer services standard perspective. The fact that they speak French just adds to the overall French boulangerie experience. Also it is clear that most of them are very young and have recently moved to the UK maybe on a temporary basis as the staff keeps changing, and may speak very little English hence they may just be uncomfortable when asked questions in English and not sure what to say.
M. A.
Great baguettes, remind me of Algeria and the bread we eat there. Been looking all over London for this type of bread. Most “artisan” baguettes are tough and chewy, these are nice and pillowy on the inside and have nice crispy exterior.
S. W.
Delightful little (seriously, it's a squeeze) French patisserie just outside the Southfields tube station. The freshly-baked pastries and glazed tarts keep us coming back every Sunday morning. Seems to be a bit of a hidden gem in the area, though it does get busy in the early mornings when all the locals come to get their day started 👌
J. B.
Walking into Chanteroy I imagine is like walking into France. Not only are their sweet tarts and chocolate mousses beautiful, they taste gorgeous, and their baguettes are cheap but are very good quality and are delicious. The savoury tarts and many pastries are also fabulous! Love love LOVE this bakery! It's no question where we get breakfast every weekend!
C. R.
Delicious sandwiches. Huge portions, lots of fillings. Very reasonable priced too. Pastries are also very tasty. Five stars!
E.
Good value for cakes and pastries. Place could do with a deep clean and a general redecoration. Also gets incredibly tight so the layout could be rethought with the counter at the back rather than the side. I generally agree about the staff but you cannot really expect a spotty pubescent 16 year old to know much about customer service.
N. L.
Best baguettes I've ever had! They seem to get better every time I visit - never disappointed! And all at a very reasonable price. Quick and friendly service. Can't fault them. Highly recommend!! :)
G. L.
Been a customer for over 10 years. They have freshly baked baguettes and fantastic sandwiches.
R. B.
Fresh and delicious baguettes, tarts, and croissants. Really good prices too. Cannot go wrong here.
R. B.
This French deli is a Southfields gem. I always stop in here for a croissant/pain au chocolat (fresh and delicious every morning) or a ham & brie baguette for lunch, when I'm in the area. It's a tiny little shop - easy to miss but for the queue that usually backs out of the door at lunchtime! Authentically staffed by French-speakers, who make delicious french food with very fresh ingredients, it really couldn't be better. Oh and those fruit tarts.....mmm
J. T.
This basic and very humble looking bakery and sandwich shop can easily be missed, but it is by far one of the best places to buy fresh sandwiches in London. With delicious Camembert cheese, fresh baguettes and french mayonnaise you can't beat a Chanteroy sandwich - it's got to be experienced to be fully understood. No place to sit an eat though (take-away only). They also offers a diverse range of authentic French foods and drinks for you to buy or order for delivery right to your door. This place is a relatively unknown treasure within London!
D. B.
Best pear almond tart this side of France.
J. M.
A real Southfields staple. Stop in for a sandwich and/or pastry to go. But they also have great french grocery options and you can order in a lot more from their catalogue.
E. M.
Anyone passing through southfields shouldn't miss le chanteroy. A jewel of a tiny but industrious french bakery and patisserie with fabulous pastries, best ever baguettes and a constant queue for their wonderful sandwiches. And above it all, even in full rush hour, the staff is always smiling and very friendly.
F. F.
If you like French bread the closest you will get outside of France. French speaking friendly staff. Tarts are amazing. Great lunch stop.
C. P.
This is the 'place' for superb french pastries and Danish pastries.
But be warned..go early as they sell out their lovely stuff within hours.
Caroline in Kensington.
T. B.
An absolute institution. The baguette menu is the best lunch you can get in the area, all about £2 each. Get the pear tart for special occasions, you won’t regret it.
Y. L.
Their baguettes and pastries are just divine! I can't believe I have been buying Sainsbury bread/croissants when this gem is right around the corner!! This place is amazing!
G. R.
Pretty much the only place in all of Southfields where you can have a proper lunch for under £3.
Cheap and quality food done the French way. 👌
H. K.
Gem of a place! The baguettes are the best around. If you’re early enough you can get the delicious croissants. The pastries are good too!
P. B.
A Southfields institution! Great sandwiches at very reasonable prices, croissants are a regular weekend treat. Good selection of cheese.
D. P.
My favourite sandwich shop in South West London,
M. C.
Has a good reputation in the area. Nice food and reasonably priced. Three stars given as staff could return a smile to customers and not appear so miserable! It's not hard to smile!
P. H.
Best croissants and baguettes this side of the channel. Great value baguette sandwiches for lunch. Lovely French tarts.
E. S.
Delicious Patisserie and extremely affordable. I love their warm bread and pastries. The tarts and éclairs are wonderful.
A. N.
Absolutely amazing French bakery. Delicious, fresh baked goods and sandwiches; very reasonably priced. A real gem!
f. f.
Best. Baguettes. Ever. The staff are all really friendly and the food is amazing. You should definitely go when nearby!
S. H.
Amazing fresh baguettes and proper French bakery goods. French staff too. Excellent value.
D. C.
This is a lovely gem in Southfields. A great French deli with lovely desserts as well. Beware this is a popular place so queues are normal.
J. M.
Love my bread and baguette from this bakery. Favourite place in Southfields :) 5 stars
K.
Consistently wonderful French food. Highly recommend their filled baguettes/sandwiches.
A. H.
Real French boulangerie and pâtisserie in Southfields. Moderate prices for baguettes and croissants, but imported goods may have a premium (understandably)
S. J.
Excellent
Most delicious tarts in London
N. Å.
Great french delicatessen. Nice sausages and cheeses. Very cheap sandwiches. Nice puddings and cheap Pain au chocolates and croissants in the mornings.
J. N.
The best sandwiches in South London, French food and Love their baguettes just like in Paris
K. L.
When I lived in Southfields, this was my favourite brunch/lunch/bread shop! Great bread and French delicacies, well priced baguettes!
M. I.
Great place for fresh French patisserie. Normally come here to get some freshly made baguettes.
Good prices too
H. S.
I think I have had the chicken special baguette about 10 times after finding this gem. I couldn't recommend this place more.
I. B.
Yummy baguettes, lovely pastries and lots of other French produce. The staff are always warm and friendly too
M. B.
Very disappointed, I have been going in the shop for a while now and I am so fed up with the service one person will put hardly any butter in the sandwich another will put loads one person will put 4 slices of cheese an other will put three and the miserable ones put two slices, come on Chanteroy sort this out be consistent and an other thing every day the baguette is a different size, I am not the only person to have this complaint but I am the only one to take the time to complain
R. J.
Perfect little French delicatessen. Amazing baguette sandwiches at a reasonable price. Recommend the salami and brie.

S. W.
Great food but their understanding is terrible! Surely it's not a huge stretch for French people living in England to speak average English?
m. i. f.
Very professional and despite the size they have a great selection.
c. s.

There are two reasons for stopping by, girls and fresh baguettes, missing star is for not selling good French wine 🙃
