Reviews of Chotto Matte London

Came here for an anniversary meal and we weren't disappointed. Tried the Nikkei #3 sharing menu which is reasonably good value for £75 per head. We certainly felt full by the end of the meal! Highlights were the ceviche and miso black cod - the cod was so tender it was sublime! Cocktails were also great and the service was attentive, friendly and fast. Comfortable seating and fun vibe with the volume just right to be able to enjoy both the music and conversation. The dessert platter was extremely generous with a bit of everything!

I love the food at Chotto Matte. It’s always a nice experience to be here. At this last time, my friends and I were asked to leave the table after 2h and we still haven’t ordered the dessert. I told the friendly waiter that I didn’t get any notification in my booking that I would need to give the table back in 2h, so he found a place for us at the bar downstairs, which was nice as well. We managed to rush to eat our dessert and then went to the bar to close the night with a good Champagne.

Every single thing about this place is perfection. Every dish we ordered was so delicious and the service we received was incredible. Our waiter Sabi was so friendly and took such great care of us through the night and made it that much more of a memorable experience. The decor is so quirky and edgy. Ive just found my new favourite restaurant

All i can say is, magical experience. It was our first time ordering a tasting menu. Every food in the tasting menu is so delicious! The star of the tasting menu, personally, is Pollo den Miso and Pollo Picante. We told the waiter that we only eat halal, sadly not all in the tasting menu is halal. But they made sure to change the non-halal menu to the ones that we can eat! I would highly recommend to try their tasting menu, and surely coming back! The place is a bit dimmed, so dont forget to use flashlights cause you wont be the only ones ;)

What a lively experience. We went on the first Saturday after restriction were lifted, despite that the staff were really good.
Its a very lively restaurant great for friends.
If you want a quite place to eat this is not the place to go!
The food is amazing! tired so many yummy dishes, great choice of cocktails too!
Perfect for a great night out.

Food was nice but I didn’t find anything like special or mind blowing. The service was a bit off at the beginning but then a ginger tall (sorry I didn’t get his name) guy started and he was very attentive and friendly. It was expensive and I don’t think it was good value for money.

Go and treat yourself!
Fantastic Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine with excellent vegan options.
If you opt for the sharing menu - and 8+ courses menu you won’t go home hungry.
Very attentive service and an upbeat vibe!
L. T.
Unusual (at least for me) combination for fusion - Japanese and Peruvian, but it works. We had the vegetarian sharing menu and the California roll. The taste is great and the portions were sufficient for two (we could not finish all). The service was very quick and friendly, all in all a nice place for food and drinks!

Absolutely loved this place! Every dish was a perfection - great combo of Japanese and Peruvian which I never thought would go along. Tried Nikkei Menu Deluxe tasting menu - 11 small dishes at £110 pp. Enjoyed every single dish. It was presented well and tasted good! my favourite was Jalea Mixta Deluxe (mixture of seafood and veg tempura) - Inside was so soft and fluffy, outside was light and crispy. Mocktail (something with gin and citrus) was absolutely tasty too. tasting menu offers great variety of dishes but quite pricey so I would come here for special occasions. Great for business, family gathering or special occasion. Would love to come back here to treat myself.

Was taken here as a suprise for my birthday recently! Lively atmosphere. We came on a Saturday quite early 5pm. There was a DJ playing and people dancing around as well as eating! The food is good- probably one of the nicer asian high end restaurants I've been to. Portion sizes are as you would expect in these establishments. I forgot to take picture of the rest of my food as it doesn't come all at once which you are forewarned. All was nicely done and well presented. My only problem was that, I had ordered some purple mash to accompany my mains... this came at the very end after we had finished everything else so I randomly ate a bowl of mash on its own😅. It may have never turned up in fact had our waiter not noticed. Our waiter was very on the ball and provided great service (I believe his name was Christiano- Thank you)! I would recommend coming here.

Great vibes, low seats, load music and delicious food. Perfect environment to gather with friends for sharing plates and drinks before a night out!
Some must try dishes!
- Wagyu beef gyoza
- Spicy Tuna crispy rice**
- King oyster mushrooms tostadas**
- Wagyu fois gras gunkan**
- Pollo picante (Spicy chicken)
- Tentaculos de pulpo
- Arroz chaufa (Peruvian egg fried rice)

One of my favourite restaurants in London.
A great variety of dishes on the menu that I never get bored of.
Always a good buzz.
Nice to come here just for a drink aswell when passing through Soho.
A. F.
The food is delicious and fresh and the drinks were nice too. We had a very hard time getting the waiters attention though. One of our friends was running late and they didn't even look at us, let alone come to ask if we wanted a drink, and we did want drinks!
D. B.
Overpriced. Food is just average. Sushi was good but I had better. Beef was not fall of the bone as described. Needed to ask for knives to cut as we couldn’t shred it with the chopstick we were given. The fried chicken was mushy. The staff is really nice though.
P. J.
Had a booking here for my wife’s bday tonight.
- service - quite poor and based on some of the reviews it was almost a different restaurant. Maybe an off night? Not sure we are coming again to check. I was waiting 20mins just to get a bottled beer on more than one occasion tonight. Sloppy. It was a full hour before we got our complete order for starters, no apologies just ‘it will come out once it’s ready’.
- food - decent, no issues with the food. We went for sushi but would much prefer Roka, Tsunami, Ivy Asia.
- ambiance - the place was cool, seating too low for me, decor and music was nice.
General view. I wouldn’t come back here again I’m afraid.
I called up to tell them that we were celebrating my wife’s bday and to keep it a surprise. They ruined my wife’s bday surprise by asking her when I went to the toilet if it was her bday! Why would you do that? Idiots!
Need to provide some training for the staff, am sure they are lovely people but not the right customer service for an establishment that is considering itself ‘premium’.
K. M.
Very unusual restaurant it is Japanese and Peruvian fusion cuisine but it actually works well. The sushi is straight up Japanese though and is top top quality sushi. The cooked food is where you have the fusion and these use high quality ingredients with interesting recipes to give a nice twist on the traditional Peruvian or Japanese dish it is based on. Would strongly recommend eating here if you like Japanese food and want to try something new and different. Expect dishes packed with different flavours, cooked to perfection with excellent service.
N. K.
Food is yummy, they did say their meat is halal so we tried that but please double check with the restaurant as they aren't HMC certified.
We got the Seabass ceviche, beef fillet tataki, handroll spicy tuna (wasn't my favourite) and California roll handroll, the black code, prawn spring rolls, spicy tuna sushi and dragon roll(average), cassava and potato chips, lomo a la parrilla, asado de tira, jungle salad
We got mochi, magical chocolate ball and the warm chocolate fondant.
Recommend the warm chocolate fondant.
K. P.
We had the bottomless brunch. Spent 98 each. Liked the drinks and the experience but the food from a vegetarians perspective was OK. Nothing stand out. On this occasion I was a bit envious of what the meat eaters got compared to us but that is the life of a vegetarian!
For starters we had a papaya salad and lychee civiche. Salad was OK but liked the lychee. For the mains we had tempura and sushi (only 2 options for veg). Liked the tempura. The sushi was so so. Wasn't a fan of the dessert platter. The drinks were really good and plenty if you remembered to order!
It is expensive but if you can try it. Because of the price I probably won't be back for a while
G. R.
Loved Chotto matte. We had the tasting menu for two people and the food was really delicious. Was completely stuffed by the end. See pics for the desert included in the tasting menu plus a friend’s chocolate bomb desert. I’d definitely recommend.
D. O.
One of the best meals I have had in London over the past 10 years. Our waiter’s recommendations for drinks were spot on and the food was exceptional. The staff were both friendly and attentive. We especially enjoyed the Lima Old-fashioned, snow crab croquetas, wagyu sashimi and prawn tempura. We can’t wait to come back!
Y. K.
Food was nice but very average and not worth the price . Portion size is also pathetic , there were 4 of us and our bill came up to £100pp and the fact that we had to go to McDonald’s afterwards because we were still hungry is shameful. Can’t say we didn’t order a lot because we did. Wouldn’t probably come back as it seems to be a pretentious restaurants that charges so much for the tiniest thing .
S.
Lovely Japanese fusion food (with Peruvian), great quality and tasted fresh. The magic chocolate bomb was phenomenal and itself needs 5/5 stars!
C. C.
I visited Chotto Matte for a before theatre birthday dinner. I had a fabulous time. The food was really tasty and our host was soooooo helpful and just a lovely lady. It was obvious she was very knowledgeable on the dishes on the menu and made honest recommendations which We really appropriated. She even gave us a tour of the restaurant once we had finished which shows she was eager to go above and beyond. Her name was Klaudia and due to the experience I had with her I will be back!
J. P.
Great location in Soho, Fab food, Great table service. Worth, the money spent. Definitely visit again.
M. B.
There is a vegan menu there, and it's awesome!! Great food, great vibe, and the best cocktail (he's so smoky). I highly recommend it!
S. H.
Date night to celebrate our anniversary. We had the Nikkei Menu 1 sharing plate. Service was good, but the first 6 items came really quickly one after the other so we didn’t have enough time to savour and enjoy each dish. By the time the chicken & beef arrived we were quite full.
The flavours were excellent and the combination of Peruvian & Japanese was surprisingly delicious!
Half way through we received a complimentary taster of a wagyu roll + fois gras - for ethical reasons I wouldn’t normally order fois gras so I wasn’t excited by this at all.
Best item we had was the rocoto cauliflower - spicy sauce hit the spot!
Nikkei Negroni cocktail was a disappointment but the fantastic Machu Picchu dessert made up for it!
Would recommend (minus the fois gras).
T. S.
Food tasted amazing and the presentation was superb 👌 Great for groups!
Very warm hearted, inviting staff as well ^_^
C. L.
Nice restaurant, nice decoration. Was a bit struggling getting to the toilet coz it’s a bit dark lol staff was friendly. Food was really good, presentation was outstanding. Would recommend!
D. R.
We came here for our team dinner out & had such a great time. Everyone at out table was impressed with the food, drinks and level of service. We were looked after by the best head waiter in the house, George, who introduced the concept & we trusted him to order the dishes for us. The food was delicious & fresh. The non-sushi eaters also had a great selection to choose from. The drinks recommendations were on point too! It’s a good spot to come with your work team, friends or partners. Coming back soon - good vibes throughout.
J. D.
Very very expensive! But absolutely delicious, book ahead as it gets busy. Staff were wonderful and attentive (very friendly also) worth every penny!!! Drinks are also amazing. If you're looking to save money order from the sharing menu.
N. S.
Had lunch here with friends and I ordered the signature bento 1. Lovely Peruvian x Japanese meal. The chicken karaage was delicious and the Asado de tira was so tender. Will definitely go back!
R. R.
Best restaurant in London. The food was insane, and everything was so flavourful and unique. We loved every single dish. The waiter was amazing and explained all the dishes which would suit our dietary requirements as we required halal meat. He was very familiar with the menu and explained it all so well. We will definitely be coming back again because the the experience was so good. I will be recommending this place to all my friends.
A. G.
Food was good and we were hungry, so no pictures )
We booked our table for dinner in advance because the place is certainly very popular . We arrived a bit early, but thanks to the friendly and professional staff we were allowed to come in and sit down. We left the waiter to chose food for us and the dishes kept coming! As it was Saturday night we felt festive and happy. Good place , good food, will return 😋

This is a great Japanese restaurant. We visited recently to have a nice meal (for lunchtime) and they had some excellent customer service as well as sone yummy food. I would recommend coming here at some point if you're craving some tasty Japanese food.
D. C.
This was an overhyped experience of japanese fusion food. The atmosphere is lively and the staff were very nice, but the food is average and quite expensive for its standard.
N. M.
Great food! Halal options! Cool vibe. Only let down was the service really but it was very busy- this is a post dated view so may have Improved now!
R.
If you ever found yourself in London and you are a sushi lover like me, then this place is definitely for you. The food, interior and service are just exceptional 😍 I mean look at their Instagram account
G. B.
Spent valentines night here and really was blown away. Been to many 10/10 restaurants around the London area but last night we found a place that exceeded the 10/10 rating.
Our new favourite place. Fantastic food, atmosphere and service. It doesn’t get much better than that. Will be returning and highly recommend.
S. R.
Amazing dinner experience. Every single plate ordered was delicious and beautifully presented. Drinks a little bit on the pricey side, however, all great looking and refreshing! Superb service. Would definitely recommend it, and will be back soon!
B. T.
I enjoyed the food, however I found the seating uncomfortable and upholstery on the seats worn out. For a restaurant at this price point, I had higher expectations. The bathrooms were also unclean.
I found the portions to be small, my meal cost £40 and I left still feeling hungry. For reference I'm a petite woman, 5ft tall and weigh 50kg, this was not enough to fill me up for lunch.
Tasty food, poor value for money.

Chotto matte used to be one of my favourite restaurants thus I was always coming back. The food has been always great- great flavours.
I went for a dinner on the 12th of December.
Unfortunately, on this occasion, the service has been terrible. After being seated, no one came to take our aperitif order or to assist us with the menu. I had to eventually wave at someone that looked our way- everyone seemed to be busy chatting either in reception or at the back of the restaurant.
A manager took our drinks and food order. But for our entire dinner, we didn't know who our waiter was. We had to wave at random staff passing around our table every time we had a question or wanted to order more things. This made our dinner very unpleasant.
Moreover, it was my partner's birthday ( detail mentioned in their booking system) but it wasn't acknowledged in any way- how could it have been since we didn't even know who our waiter was. There was no special touch.
For an expensive restaurant like this one, I expect better service. We want an experience, we want to feel welcomed. Otherwise, there are plenty other cheaper restaurants out there with great food.
S. A. S.
Good food, slightly expensive, the ground floor next to the Dj is too loud, second floor is ok, reservation ahead is needed.
M. A.
"Already recommended to friends. Also our server was fabnastic. Her demeanojr was lovely and all her food and drink recommendations were spot on. A bit pricey, but worth it!
N. M.
Pretty good food - really enjoyed the ceviche, the sushi and the mushroom tostadas! Service was a slight miss (likely because it was the first day restaurants reopened) as they took a very long time to serve our mains. Nonetheless would definitely recommend!
N. B.
Beautiful food and stunning location. We had the Nikkei II sharing menu and it was incredible. Highly recommend the sake labelled "the dry one" to go with it!
k. k.
Have been twice now - both times exceptional. It is on the pricey side but the taste of dishes, service and ambience make it all worthwhile. 10/10 would recommend.
C. R.
Absolutely delicious food. We did 2x sharing menu and then 3x dishes from the grill to share between 3 of us which was quite a lot of good but we're greedy! Highlights were the octopus, the beef on the grill, the pork belly and the black cod. Service was friendly and only slight downside for me was not knowing that each dish was as menu was on our phones and lacked description. It is expensive but great overall experience!
L.
Lovely bar in Soho which, for a Friday, still had some tables outside under the heaters. They make a lovely old fashioned, and my friend enjoyed her Aviation G&T.
H. S. M.
Food is great and service was good. Presentation and atmosphere is also really nice. Only downside is the food dont all come at the same time and this led to us waiting for our sushi which came after we asked the waiter which then prompted the kitchen to make the sushi.
Z. M.
Good food, great service and fun night out. Only minor criticism is I requested a table in the main restaurant but was placed under a speaker in the lounge bar. I couldn’t hear myself think lol.
ל. א.
I found this place by chance and felt so lucky, the environment is like a bar, the food is delicious and very good service.
Highly recommended if you are looking for a good place with young vibes in the middle of Soho.
K. T.
The food here is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the black cod and the miso aubergine. The cocktails are great and potent!

A M A Z I N G!!!
Must visit when you are down London. It's a bit pricy but it's worth every penny. We were a group of 6 and shared a lot of dishes, all where delicious.
The service is great. The music and cocktails very good (although the music was a bit too loud for conversation).
I will def come back.
You might need to reserve a table first.
T. B.
Had a really nice lunch in the outdoors sitting. We went for the sharing lunch menu which was delicious, with some vegan and pesci options, and the cocktails were delicious.
Don't miss the ceviche!
N.
Food was fresh and tasty. The fusion concept is interesting. Not my personal go-to for japanese food but overall an enjoyable experience. The nigiris were really good and had a good size too.
E. H.
Very very good Japanese food in a very trendy popular place. Music is very house but just too loud to have any conversation. Service is very good and tender. If you like to eat in a posh house music party, then this is your place to be.
S. P.
Good food, nice ambience. Giving it 4 stars because the place wasn't busy when we went at lunch but they still managed to forget 3 items off an order of about 10. I flagged it twice with the waitresses but the food never arrived and was still on the bill at the end. No apology or explanation for why. However, I would recommend the restaurant for tasty seafood options and drinks.
A.
Really enjoyed our visit. We had one of the tasting menus for £65 each and every dish was delicious.
M. C.
Lovely birthday meal. Not cheap but cocktails and food were delicious. Service was friendly and helpful and overall a very nice evening!
A. A.
Dining at Chotto Matte is a wonderful experience however, posibbly due to the time we came it did feel a bit loud at time with the music overshadowing our conversations.
However on to the the main show some of the most stand out dishes were-
-The Spicy Tuna Roll - The tuna Melts in your mouth with amazing flavour combinations.
-The Asada Beef with potato Jus was something very special and highly recommended.
- Gyozas Chicken and prawn- Surprising one of the best i've ever had, freshly prepared the flavours explode in your mouth with a delight.
-Dragon Roll- This is a staple for every Japanese resturant I go to. What i loved here is that every bite was perfectly crafted with balanced flavours between the avocado, salmon and especially the unagi sauce !
Overall what I loved from Chotto Matte is that not only is it a beautiful place to dine in, but its complimented by accommodating staff that cater to your every need for an memorable experience.
-9/10-
O.
Very nice venue with great vibes and nice friendly workers!
Prices depending on what your spending limit is, it could be just right or abit pricey? But it's ok for me and I enjoy it my experience here and their food selections were great! Very delicious and unique. You guys gotta try it!
We had the mixture of the Nikkei menu II/III on the sharing section! Highly recommended! Must try!
Y. C.
Had Sunday Brunch menu for my first visit there and it was a wonderful meal, everything was delicious and the sushi was so beautifully fresh and melt in the mouth, the set menu also includes 3 mocktails (you can pay a little extra for cocktails) which was more than enough for the whole meal and also all of them were so refreshing and really good. The Sunday Brunch menu also includes a dessert platter which amazingly done, I especially enjoyed the passion fruit creme brûlée! All in all I would definitely recommend and go back there myself!
E. C.
This is my fail safe place to go to always. Food is always delicious as is the cocktails. This time I brought my 2 New Yorker friends to eat and their comment was: the best food I’ve ever had in London! The favours as usual is on point. Loved everything we ordered! We even had to order seconds for some! Great experience again. Love this place so much. Keep it up.
D. Z.
Throughout the years this is my favourite place, I have celebrated every of my birthdays here and looking forward to celebrate more! Only downfall for this place- Never been a fan of the security guy who bullies people on the door though. The security guards are your first contact when people arrive to the restaurant, if you want more returning customers you got to train your staff to be more human.
N. B.
I truly enjoyed dinner here. Perfect place in Soho for great cocktails and good food. The baked salmon is a must. The rolls are fresh. The pisco sour is lovely and the yuzu martini a must !
Also service is ++++
P. P.
I rarely ever post reviews, but on this instance I had to.
We went for the boozy brunch for our friends birthday and our server Asger was amazing! Our drinks were never empty, food recommendations were on point and he truly made it an unforgettable experience.
We rarely go to the same brunch twice but we are making it a point to visit once again, and will call in to check whether Asger is there when we go.
Would definitely recommend the boozy brunch it's worth every penny.
A. S.
Always my favorite! It’s a regular, amazing food and great atmosphere
C. T.
Came here for the Brunch. Food was amazing and the cocktail selection they offered were all really good and pretty strong! The waiter who served our table was incredibly friendly and made the experience much more enjoyable.
a. j.
Went here for my partners birthday meal and I wish I could score higher than 5 stars. Not only was the food simply amazing and a great variety but the service was impeccable. They paid such attention to detail, id left a note on the booking to make my boyfriends birthday special however not to
Make a fuss as he gets embarrassed easily, our waiter was so discreet in bringing over a complimentary drink and a happy birthday plate of dessert after our meal and removed the sparkler to avoid any fuss. I was so impressed and touched. We can’t wait to come back!
J. L.
Fantastic restaurant to which we have been a couple of times now. Great atmosphere with upbeat music, lovely people, professional staff, and exceptional food! The only drawback is that our group of 7 were squashed onto a table of which I saw had happened to a few groups there, maybe the restaurant is just to popular and they try to accommodate as much as possible.
Prices are OK, similar to sushi samba and roka. Portions are tiny but well made. All in all, will definitely return as it does make a fantastic night out! Thumbs up!
S.
Good overall. Seating is the only thing that is slightly frustrating as you are very close to the other tables. No privacy at all and you can near all conversations. Food is very good and lovely cocktails
G. N.
Food was ok. Cocktail selection wasn't the best so for the first time in long time I didn't order one (I ALWAYS get a cocktail but wasn't impressed by the concoctions or the prices, almost as expensive as Novikov?) sushi is undoubtedly fresh however would have liked to see more Peruvian classic dishes rather than 90% of the menu being Japanese dishes (I get it's a fusion restaurant, but would have been nice to go to a restaurant that serves 90% Peruvian dishes with a Japanese twist, too many fusion restaurants piggy backing off Japanese dishes -it's a bit cliche) place was a good vibe, music too loud, service felt a bit rushed, just a good chill spot to go after work to shout in conversation with your colleagues.
B. J.
A great experience, look forward to visiting again! Thank you Goda and team for looking after us and we enjoyed some delicious dishes!
C.
Great place! Really cool interior, friendly staff, and good food. We had the deluxe tasting menu which was A LOT of food but all very tasty.
G. R.
We have had a very good experience here.
Interesting combo of bar and fusion restaurant.
It is not entirely Japanese (cannot judge the Peruvian authenticity) BUT all courses we had was good - very good - excellent.
Definitely a good place to go if you can afford not to pay attention to the bill too much.
J. R.
Favourite Brunch spot I've been to so far, I'd definitely go again, it was quite busy -so you have to be patient with the staff - arrive on time - but great atmosphere and food I can't wait to go back - it was such a treat. Also I was stuffed after all the courses - plenty of food & drink.
J.
Great place if you like tangy citrusy flavours which are right up my alley. Great atmosphere and service. Just note that the set menus are not any cheaper than ordering individual items separately, they are more just there as a guide to help you if you don't know what to pick. So I would recommend just choosing the items that you like from the menu! For us it actually worked out cheaper for a similar number of items that were more catered to our tastes
A.
Spectacular venue with first class service & fantastic flavour.
We were invited to this Japanese and Peruvian fusion restaurant by our agency for lunch and, as there was a fairly large group of us, we opted for a tapas-like selection of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. Each plate was impeccably presented and announced by the waiters. Mouth after mouthful of sushi and other tasty delicacies was a delight to the senses. The atmosphere was fantastic. I think you can tell a lot about a venue by their toilets and these were out of this world and an experience in themselves. Well worth a visit!
P. L.
Staff are lovely and super attentive. Best part of my visit there.
Food and drink was very good. For the portions for the price, there's better, but it's still good. Small note - eating a grilled fillet of salmon with chopsticks is a bit of a mission.
Atmosphere lively but no good if you want to talk.
C. R.
Was here last night celebrating a best friend's birthday. We were served by Anna, great waitress very friendly, professional & attentive! Amazing drinks & atmosphere
G. G.
Setting is quite nice, servers were okay. The food was okay too, some weird mixtures of flavours, very acidic but might be a South American flavour that I am not used to. The prawn tempura is not tempura and the sauce was way too overpowering and removed the crispiness of the prawn. The black cod though was delicious. All round a bit above average
N. V.
Had a great evening here last Sunday. The atmosphere was lively , the cocktails and food were delicious. The service was excellent- friendly and relaxed but efficient.
Would love to come back and try more of their vegan dishes !
T. D.
I almost gave this 1* but then I got a grip! The cocktails are stunning, very special and nothing you could make at home. The food is great, every single thing we had in the brunch was stunning. The almost 1 star was because it’s just unnecessarily loud, to the point my Apple Watch warned my about excessive noise exposure!! I get having a DJ and the vibe is great, but not being able to have a conversation or hear the waiters is just daft and pretentious!
J. D.
Had dinner for table of 5. The food was delicious and the service was also great. Ambience was good, with a modern but casual feel. Price was slightly on the pricey side (I'm a tourist) but you won't feel like you got ripped off. The savoury dishes were definitely the highlight VS sweet options.

I've had a vegetarian tasting menu and I quite like it. I accompanied it with some primitivo red wine. Portion we're pretty small. The place is nice and staff is nice too. I wouldn't go again for the tasting menu but I'd like to go again and try something different.
P. C.
Good food and atmosphere, rather spoilt by helpful staff trying to manage around the fact that they don't have menus. They expect you to download them on a phone. This just spoils your experience. Your waiter asks you if you want anything else and ends up showing one person in your party the menu on their phone, which they have to read out to everyone else on your table. They're not cheap, so surely they can afford to print a menu.
A. P.
Great place dinner and drinks. Everything was great. The staff were extremely pilot and helpful. Would always go again.
H. F.
Amazing vegan tasting menu, absolutely loved it. Some of the best vegan food I have ever had ❤️
K. M.
Absolutely outstanding experience! Food is out if this world, every single dish on the tasting menus and they just kept coming. Don't forget to leave room for the dessert 😋❤! Thank you Chotto Matte team! See you soon!
C. D.
Used to be one of my favourite places in London. I would give 5 stars, but after trying everything on the menu more than once, it starts to be "boring". Maybe put some specials?
Also a bit on the pricey side, but overall doesn't disappoint.

Remus was my Waiter for the night. He was very attentive to noticing my empty water glass, to knowing when I was ready to order. The starter came pretty quick. We ordered the veg sushi. The flavours paired well with the soy sauce and pickled ginger. The cook on table hibachi grill was well assembled and had pretty decor with Japanese writing around it. I was instructed how to cook the tuna. By following instructions the otoro tuna turned out perfectly and was seasoned well with the yuzu salt. The rice was well flavoured and was a good portion. The lychee Ceviche was flavoursome and had a kick to it which really made the flavours stand out. The Brocoli was tenderstem and was well seasoned. However only the stem had a crunch. The tostados were mushroom and were quite meaty in fact. Especially for a vegetarian dish. The sauce and seasoning was great and the pastry added some umph to the dish.
Dessert we enjoyed and the meringue was a nice touch to the mixed berries ice cream. The malted milk ice cream pairs well with the chocolate fondant especially with the sauce inside.
Cocktails bought were After 8 CBD and frozen yuzu Margarita. The taste on the after 8 was really sharp but didn't pair well with the chocolate. The frozen yuzu however was a great combo with the ice taking of the usual tart of the yuzu making the drink really refreshing which lead us to ordering more.
We were gifted coffee patron and it was great woke and sobered me up for the journey home.
Christina also played a part in the great service I received from Chotto Matte.
This is definitely a place to try if you want to try Asian fusion or just have a great time. The music is great.
T. W.
Absolutely amazing experience. Jordan and the team blew us away. Top notch in every aspect.
E. T.
It very good had the taster menu 2. Calamari is on point. Wide range of whiskeys. Service is bit slow enjoyed the atmosphere. Probably the best fusion restaurant I have been to. Expensive but nice for a special occasions
L. A.
Fantastic food, friendly and welcoming staff, relaxed yet prompt and efficient service. We had one of the tasting menus and were very happy with our choice. Cocktails are also excellent.
E. G.
This place deserves 5 stars, amazing food, beautiful place, nice ambiance and friendly staff, but their time restrictions to enjoy every of these nice things is too short. Sorry guys, after a stressful week the last thing I expect is a rushed dinner.
V. P.
Been here a couple of times now and it never disappoints. Great selection of dishes, interesting cocktail menu and really helpful and friendly staff. On some tables I find the seating a little uncomfortable but that's a small price to pay for an otherwise amazing place.
I. C.
Excellent food. Beautifully presented. Wonderful and attentive staff. Best birthday ☺️
M. C.
I had the tasting menu and I have to say it was one of the best experiences Ive had. Esker, our waiter, was incredible and altered the menu to suit our dietary needs and kept us enthusiastic throughout the night. From the first to the last the food was amazing and i definitely would recommend coming here again.
Thanks for the great experience, Esker!
A. R.
We had the vegan taster meal and pretty much every cocktail we could get our hands on lol. The food and service was amazing and Tbh it was one of the best vegan menus I've had anywhere in London for taste and presentation... We Wil Def be back
M. Z.
Decided to try this place for a friend’s re-union, very lovely restaurant, superb service and friendly staff, I love their sushi and cooked dishes, not super impressed by desserts. Overall awesome experience and will try other desserts next time.
N. A.
Service - excellent - professional and friendly, with speedy service. Waiter was very quick to pick up cues for assistance and service.
Ambience - could be better, very hot inside and music so loud you couldn't hear the waiters or company speak.
Food- not bad, not the best either. For the price I would prefer certain other places.
T. K. Z.
One of my favourite restaurants, like sushi samba but better
L. M.
Incredible food! The vegan tuna maki and their chicken miso are really good - I wish they had these 2 dishes on their takeout menu. I did not like the asparagus rolls much . They’ve got a cute wall downstairs for pictures, etc. 4 star rating because my friend’s food took literally an hour more than ours to arrive (both appetisers as well as mains). However, this was 2 days before tier 3 lockdown so its understandable!
P. S.
Incredible. The salmon tartare was one of the most amazing taste sensations I have ever had and the murals and music were great
L. M.
Nice atmosphere with the music and you can hear each other talk. The staff were very attentive and efficient. The food came quick. The seats are a bit uncomfortable as you feel too low for the table and quite laid back. A bit pricey but what you would expect.
D. B.
Amazing vibe, excellent food and great cocktails too. Would highly recommend it. (It's abit difficult to get a table so book in advance)
t. m.
Highly recommended! I go there almost every time I'm in London, wonderful food, interesting flavours and combinations. A bit pricey, but definitely worth it! Book in advance, but even If you have to wait, enjoy a drink at the bar downstairs.
E. L.
Very busy but great food and cocktails. Also lots of great vegan options!
V.
I came here for a friend's bday and it was our first time visiting.
Service is excellent- attentive and fast waiting staff. All staff were wearing face masks.
Food is okay- overpriced for what is is and tasted very average. We couldn't finish the soft shell crab avocado roll as the taste wasn't great. The dragon roll and fatty tuna was nice though. My drink ( Jasmine fantasy ) was nice but my friend had to send her drink (lychee picante) back as it just tasted mostly of chilli.
R. C.
Always an excellent choice. Not too expensive, very good quality food and a great ambience. It is a great fusion Restaurant!
Service is always good and attentive. On this occasion the waiters made a mistake, but remediated immediately and apologized straight away.
Food out of the kitchen is normally well timed, but can sometimes take a bit long. Specially during busy periods.
My person favorites are the seabass ceviche, the dragon roll and the spicy tuna roll.
I. C.
I have been here a few times now. The food is always great but more often than not the service is poor. It takes at least 30-40mins to have drinks orders taken. Often you have to ask several times for service even though there seem to be plenty of staff standing around (avoiding eye contact!). The table next to us asked the waiter what the sauce was and the waiter said "I dont know" and just walked off. I doubt I will return to Chotto Matte as there is plenty of just as good or better food close by with much friendlier staff and better service.
Y.
First, the hostess didn't ask for our coats. The restaurant wasn't crowded at all and she tried to sit us next to another table.
I asked if possible to sit in another one. She said yes but with a rude face. Later, I had to ask a waitress to take our coats in the cloakroom because there is no way that you can hung it up in that "chair". It is so uncomfortable!
The waiter was so nice. However, I asked many times if food was spicy and he said it wasn't. When food arrived I was only able to eat sushi. We order too many dishes and everything was really spicy.
Cocktails, decoration and prices are ok.
T. D.
Great vibe, delicious sushi, best servers. Worth the price for the fantastic night out.
R. P.
Asger was an amazing waiter and host! We’ll be asking for him for his service next time! Was brilliant and completely accommodating given we had 3 kids with us to! X
L. F.
The food is wonderful but twice now we've had bad service. Forgetting orders, not understanding drink orders, big gaps between plates and just generally not being attentive to the tables. When we chased both drink orders and missing plates, we got quite a snarky answer about it being "how the kitchen worked" and that she had "just put drink order in". We were also reminded that we only had the table for 2 hours, immediately before she came back to take a food order that she'd forgotten she'd already taken. Waiting staff could do with some training, as they're letting the food down.
R. A.
A nice collection of drinks and food. A nice ambience with nice interior. We were told that an architect designed it and you will be surprised to see the unique restrooms 😁. The service is good but could be a bit faster, especially for the drinks, they can be served faster.
L. h.
Only went for cocktails. Didn't mind paying £15 per cocktail but they tasted watery. Wouldn't go back for drinks alone. Atmosphere was great though.
S. K.
Ambiance is really cool. Sofisticated high end resturant. Good choice for vegetarians. Service staff was excellent. Best place to get a sushi if you are around soho. Highly recommended well pleased.
J. C.
Plenty of options and everything we tried was delicious! Staff were very friendly. Good atmosphere. Would come back.

I rarely leave online reviews but feel that the service at Chotto Matte deserves a big shout out. My partner and I visited last Saturday and were looked after by Goda and Asgar (hope I spelt it right!). The manager Goda had an impressive attention to detail. She quickly noticed and rectified the mistake bar made with our drinks order (we didn’t even notice ourselves!) just very professional. Our amazing waiter Asgar made us feel very welcome. The restaurant was super busy on a Saturday night but he made sure he gave us 5* service and no request was an issue. Having been left disappointed by the service in many central London restaurants post lockdown, we have to say the Chotto Matte front of house team made up for it all and we will certainly return.
H. M. A. B.
So crowded, should book before. Nicely decorated with supper friendly staff, the only thing that was annoying is there was no AC! It was so hot. Spicy edmame, vegetable and tuna tacos are must!
N. O.
Excellent food and drink reasonably priced and our waiter George was very good and attentive, he made the experience all more pleasant.
k. c.
Super delicious!!! We had the privilege of having Sabi be our waiter. He recommended the yellow tail aburi. Probably one of the best things I have ate this year. Every thing was so good. Sabi was awesome and answered all of our questions. This place made our London trio that much better.
s. e.
Yes... a little expensive but we'll worth it! Food amazing, service spot on and great atmosphere. Really recommend their sharing menu.
K.
Had tasting menu, they just brought the food out without too much explanation of what is in it etc - food was okay, would definitely recommend going there and just ordering your own dishes instead of tasting menu.
E. W.
Yeat another great spot in London worth going to, we came here for a drink and ended up eating food ..... to my surprise the food was actually amazing and cheap, that was also a surprise considering how good it was. Highly recommend this place. And what a pretty place it was.
S. N.
Decent Japanese fusion cruising . The sake is not bad either but the first one that we got was off- it has gone vinegar-ish. The restaurant staff were very courteous and sort that out swiftly, bringing us a new bottle. If you are looking for a fusion place, it’s a good choice. Ooh, most importantly, the do Uni here (sea urchin) and it’s goooooddd.
L. W.
4.0
Kind service but they forgot dishes and it took long.
Food was still great. But unfortunately the seating changed (a lot less place, as to many tables compared to when it opened)
E. C.
Great cocktails, phenomenal food, staff were lovely! 10/10 experience!
K. A. B.
Marvellous afternoon lunch. It was more than perfect. Relaxed atmosphere, stunning food, beautifully arrayed in bento boxes and the décor and ambience was superb! Cannot wait to go here again!
J. C.
Elizabeth was incredible, we were looked after very well and had an outstanding meal. Her cocktail recommendations went down a treat and she provided great service all round.
M. B.
Good food, great vibes. A bit pricey though, but hey! That’s central London for you ! 😉
A. C.
One of the most evident manifestations of their menu is of course Nikkei, the Japanese-Peruvian fusion food which is starting to sweep the globe. The particular roots of this fusion lie in the significance both traditions give to fresh fish, as Japanese sushi, buoyed by Peru’s thriving fishing industry, mixes perfectly with the ceviche which is at the center of many Peruvian menus. Incredibly well presented and an amazying culinary experience.
R.
A instagrammable Asian fusion restaurant in the heart of Soho. The food is great and the menu extensive, with plenty of options to choose from, catering for everyone. The only reason I rate it 4 star and not 5 star is mostly for the atmosphere as it’s not really the kind of vibe I prefer whilst eating, and definitely has a slight bar/club feel with everyone being over dressed and taking selfies, and I personally prefer a more low key foodie restaurant but this is of course my personal opinion and as mentioned we really enjoyed the food. We ordered around 3-4 dishes per head and definitely did not come away hungry and also had a couple of bottles of wine and Sake and the bill came in at around £70 per head so it’s a reasonable price. Great spot for a meal if you’re looking to head out into Soho afterwards as some of the great bars and clubs are just around the corner.

I went back to this restaurant last week after an amazing experience the first time around which I totally enjoyed. The table service and the manager at the time was super nice, friendly and helpful. Very professional and hospitable.
Unfortunately, last week was not terribly so. The food nonetheless were very very good and exceptionally tasty. However, our waiter outside was a bit of a downer. He was very dismissive and quite argumentative. I only asked about a particular dish how it could be shared as we only had chopsticks but he went on saying we made a mistake with the order. I pointed to him that we did not as we ordered tasting menus 1 and 2 not just one tasting menu. He was very dismissive and never apologised. When we tried to grab his attention at some point to ask about something he totally just gave us a sign gesture with his hands that he was busy with another table. I thought that was odd as it was a smart restaurant for that kind of behaviour demonstration. He perked up tho and was very happy to accept our payment with the service charge of £25. Me and my friend paid over £200 and would have actually questioned it but we just wanted to leave.

Waiters were attentive, food was delicious, music was great... A little loud but still a very nice experience! Upmarket prices
d.
Everythin ON POINT! Bar Downstairs WOW! I'm sorry but I Don't remember the names of 2 guys who were makin coctails for us. They were AMAZING! Best mojitos I had in a long time and my friend LOVED his selection of coctails too!! After 4-5 rounds of drinks we went upstairs for a meal. Chef's special!! OMG! AMAZING 7 course meal ! Denis was our chef! RESPECT!

This restaurant was extraordinary, it was the new year eve, my friends and I tried to find a restaurant desperately at the last minute as we were not really prepared.
We called to book for 6 places but they said it was full but we tried nonetheless by coming at the restaurant hoping that a table will be free for six of us. The hostess asked us to wait 20 min and hopefully we get a table.
The food was just incredible, even now my mouth is watering. I have nothing to say about the price quality, it was almost like gastronomy for the price that wasn’t even that high. All my friends were very delighted because the atmosphere was there, everyone was cheerful and happy, the music was on, the waiters were very polite, they even gave us sparkling candle when it was new year.
I would highly recommend this restaurant and I hope coming back there next time I’m going back to London.
J. P. B. W.
Food is delicious, but this is the third time we went and some dishes took so long to arrive we had to cancel them.
S. K.
Very nice music, great place and atmosphere. The food choices are also very tasty. Worth visiting or even coming here on a frequent basis.
A. L.
Food was amazing! Service was very good too!!
N. D. J.
I dined here with 3 friends last Saturday night. The food was fantastic, definitely exceeded my expectations.
However they haven't quite got the service right, this unfortunately echoes many venues post lockdown.
Whilst the waiters were pleasant, they were all stressed and running around which suggests the venue is short staffed or they have too many tables per waiter. Hence our service was slow. Difficult to get a waiter, food arrived quickly once ordered but drinks took too long.
D. K.
Good cocktails and wine. Food is always good. Come here for the drinks and atmosphere and bar food.
N. N.
The sushi selection is amazing! Vegetable tempura was also delicious. Desserts were so different from the usual but so nice at the same time. Beware! It will empty your wallet but worth going for the experience and tasty food.
U. R. O.
Great place for drinks, their whiskey sour was amazing
J. H.
2.5 stars - Food had good flavour, but service was a huge letdown. Water glasses were not refilled, drinks were not offered even though our wine glasses had been empty for awhile. Was also not clear who our server was which made things difficult. If you are looking for this kind of scene I would definitely recommend Sushi Samba instead
Z. G.
We have had a wonderful evening in the care of the most incredible waitress Katerina - the food was all delicious and the service impeccable.
The Octopus was especially tasty, so once we finished we ordered it again! Everything was perfect and despite this being our 3rd visit, the standard has only improved. We look forward to dining again soon!
E. B.
Great food menu and cocktails. Asian and Peruvian influence in the kitchen. Night scene is also great for pre drinks with DJ music in the background. Bartenders are very talented, quick and serve fancy cocktails. Highly recommended. Locations is also very central at the Soho neighborhood.
S. T.
Had a really lovely time. Service was very friendly and helpful. Food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the octopus and the tuna. Wonderful mix of flavours.
Most of the outdoor space had heaters but the perimeter tables will get cold. We had a heater over the table and could comfortably sit in a blouse.
G. A. (.
Loved everything about this restaurant .. the service .. the ambiance .. THE FOOD ..!! every dish we ordered was YUMM ..!! We’ve ordered nearly everything vegetarian + the Chef presented my 1st of Jan. Birthday surprise dessert very well .. loved it 🥰
N. M.
Lucas made our visit to Chotto Matte extra special with his tentative and caring service. He went above and beyond and Chotto Matte is very lucky to have an asset like him.
L. D. V.
Peruvian-Japanese fusion with INCREDIBLE flavours. The ceviche is fresh, the meat is tender and the sushi is some of the best in London. Great pisco sours and cocktails, and it's open late. Quite an expensive meal but worth every penny. Make sure to get the dessert platter.
s. d.
Went on a Saturday night and as you can imagine it was full but after a few minutes we got a table . Really nice place and the food was fantastic. We also tried some cocktails. The background music was right up my street progressive house ;) which definitely added to the great night we had
A. G.
Second time here and it was just as fab! Atmosphere is great! Super buzzy and fun. Love the decor and lighting. We were there celebrating my birthday in a group of 7, food is delicious and great to share. The service was really good, we didn't feel rushed or pressured the staff joined in on our fun and kept all at the table happy. Will definitely be back!
Faves from the menu- padron peppers, classic tuna tostadita, nikkei sashimi, corn- sides, chicken dish from the robata section is super yum and so is the ebi tempura!
Can't wait to come back!
T. K.
Good food, beautiful deco . A very tight seating area opposite the open kitchen.. Service was a little slow due to busy Friday night rush.. Very reasonably priced.
R. H.
Would get 5 stars if it wasn't for the price. Very small portions. Staff where very friendly and service was great. Food good apart from the small portions. Pride weekend let to an enjoyable experience.
P. K.
I have very mixed feelings. I had three dishes. The courgette was extremely delicious and well seasoned, fresh and nice. In contrast, the broccoli was very greasy, swimming in the oil. I think if you know how to cook with fresh vegetables, you have no need to overload them with fat to make them tasty. The mushroom tostadas would be good if they would not have been so salty. One thing is also that their chairs are ergonomically very bad.
However, I was already giving two stars and not three but when I told about my opinion of the broccoli dish, they decided to take it out from my bill even if I ate the dish. That is something that I appreciate deeply and wholeheartedly so they really want to have a good service and be good for their customers! Thank you a lot!
A. N.
Chotto Matte provided a great atmosphere, quality service and amazing flavor profiles. I would highly encourage dropping in for either the chef's menu (available for dinner) or the weekend brunch, which provides a great value for money.
D. H.
Have been a few times and it's one of my favourite restaurants! Love it here.
I. H.
Lovly fusion food, servered by polite and friendly staff. With some good cocktails too...try the Maya Mary!
a. s.
One of the best restaurant I've been to on this trip to London for lunch. Staff was really helpful and made special dish for our younger one. We ordered sushi and rabata both were amazing.
S. J. B.
The food was great. Lovely service. All bite sized and hence you can share and order as much as you like. The vibe is definitely very cool. Everything is also halal 😀
1 star taken off because the receptionist lied to us about an area being closed despite the fact that people were sitting and we wanted to sit there as well! 🧐
E. R.
Great restaurant, the food is delicious and the setting very trendy! However, the service could have been a bit improved - we waited for quite a while, and the music could be a bit less loud.
D. C.
Expensive but worthy. Delicious food and reasonable portions. The service hasn't been the best tho. The waitress seemed annoyed by the time we toke to decide if we wanted the shared menus or single dishes, unnecessarily considering we toke 10 minutes in total during some conversation. Also she was taking plates before finishing them, once she also said: "ah, you also eat the fat" while putting it back on the table. Food is mainly Japanese with some Peruvian influences with the ceviche marinated style raw fish and meat. A part of that when I asked if they had anything with the typical Peruvian corn they said NO.
s. s.
Hi people. I have been there 2 days ago for lunch. Friendly staff, especially the Italian girl with glasses but one of the other staff left my chopsticks on table when she wanted to take my empty dishes, while there was a small plate left on table for me, that was odd but that’s the thing. The thing is dude your menu is too pricey for what the food quality and presentations is. Even pricier than top quality Japanese restaurants and I felt I paid extra for what I was offered. Thanks
J. A.
Some very good dishes, loved the chanchito, quite pricey and the tiniest amount of ceviche I have seen so far. Impeccable service.
S. 2.
The food here is absolutely stunning. We had the brunch tasting menu and were delighted with every bite and also the wines included. At £50 per person, the food alone was well worth it and was sufficient enough to fill us up.
The staff here are very courteous and provide a good service. There are large bi-folding doors along the outer edge of the restaurant which give a medeteranian feel in the hot weather. The overall design is neat and modern.
Unfortunately, during our visit we had 2 really wobbly tables (we moved from the first so we could sit near the open side of the restaurant). The second one even pivoted so it kept spinning round on the spot. Such a simple thing to get right and disappointing to say the least.
The seating hear is not ideal for eating either. They use low, cushioned chairs that you flop back into like what you'd find in the lobby of an office complex or a hotel. Leaning forward to eat was a bit of a strain. This is only personal preference of coirse and may be ok for some as it adds to the funky design and is visually appealing.
Finaly, the toilets left us feeling like they had tried a little too hard to make it different. Flat steel pans in the space of basins with a fixed long tap pointing at the middle results in a 10cm gap to wash your hands in making it a bit of a squeeze to do this properly. There are only small round makeup mirrors on the walls allowing you to see only a small part of your face so you can't really check your tidyness before you leave the room. My partner noted that the Ladies toilet "smelt like raw sewage in every cubicle", despite us arriving as they had only just opened for the day. Generally, the toilets were very clean and well kept though.
To summarise, the feel of the restaurant itself is far from premium but the service and fantastic food make this place well worth a visit.
F. S.
Went for the Saturday bottomless brunch - food and drinks were nice, but not worth the £90 price. Would go back but not for bottomless.
H. E.
Great food and drinks. Seating on the sofas however is pretty uncomfortable. Could do with a better range of beers also....
g. q.
Very nice restaurant; trendy with very good food: fusion Peru/Japan
Cocktails are good but expensive
A. R.
We visited for dinner on a Friday night. We were seated downstairs but the music was too loud for any conversation. However the staff did move us on request upstairs which was slightly quieter. It also had more of a restaurant atmosphere with the open kitchen.
The service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and despite the restaurant being very busy we never had any issue being served. The food is pricey but amazing, especially the seabass ceviche, pork belly and tuna tataki. The cocktails are also not cheap but delicious, especially the moshi moshi and yuzu martini. Would definitely return.
L. S.
Great atmosphere, superb wine and food and very friendly and professional staff :)

Great vibe and cocktails. Nice music played by the DJs.
One of the nice places to be on a Saturday night

Went on Saturday for their Harajuku brunch and it was fab. Great food, service, entertainment and bottomless drinks.
For entree we recommend the sashimi. Mains we loved the chicken & beef. Yum!

Execellent food and vibe. Recommend the grilled chicken hearts and ceviche... And shared desert platter too!

Just ate at Chotto Matte Soho with a group and George was the most attentive waiter we have ever had, he went out of his way to give us the most amazing service whilst still serving many other tables. My glass of water was never left unfilled! Very impressed, 10/10.

Very nice modern trendy atmosphere. Good creative food.

Decent food and drinks. SLOW service indeed. And overall on the pricey side. With the tasting menu we didn’t feel very full. And we had 2 cocktails and 1 carafe of wine only, and the bill was £180!
o. c.
Had the sharing lunch £35 per person, everything was delicious, lots of choice and lots of food to eat. Loved their takes on Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, two of the best in the foods in the world
A. G.
Quite good sushi, Very good service albeit a bit stiff (matter of preference, not quality), but not sure it is worth the quite up market prices.

Delicious food. Will need to come back some time soon to try more of the menu.

The food was amazing and above it our host was the best. Suggested us best dishes and made our visit worth. Definately would to to visit again!!!

One of the most delicious sushi meals Imve ever had. Fusion with Peruvian flavors is a hit.

Beautiful place where to go for a drink and some sushi! I love it!

They are on it here!!
High energy welcome at the reception was a great start. Our waitress was super professional and even though the place got busy really quickly we never lacked her attention.
Opting for two different tasting menus was the best choice we've made as all the food was just heaven in our mouths. Not a single dish was boring or dull. How are they expecting people to eat all that food is a mistery to me, as the amount is rather generous.
By the look at the bar and the menu one would think that the cocktails will be tasty, but they were even tastier than I imagined.
There was a slight inconvenience during our dinner, however it was handled extremely professionally and maybe even too kindly. Big thanks to a manager and all the rest of the team.

Had a dinner las Sunday with my friend. We didn't book, but the hostess gently accommodated us. Was my first time there, and obviously after all the reviews I could just expect nothing less than almost perfection. We ordered a bottle of wine to start and then we were trying to choose the most we could to try good number of dishes. A very gentle Greek waiter helped us telling that with the set menu we would certainly try most of the dishes. We ordered option 1 and 2 and waited for the 18 dishes to come. I told them that I'm very sensitive to coriander, just to make sure that nothing would come with that on top. We asked to top up our wine which was apparently lost inside the restaurant, wasn't close to our table as it should. Well, the price is probably worth for the quality of food, which was very good until we get to the Seabass. Well the thing is, nobody told us that they ran out of the fillet of Seabass, so they brought us Seabass tempura which is not the same price, it's cheaper. Guess what? The tempura came full of coriander. I almost vomit. I asked them why was with coriander if all other dishes came perfectly fine. Then the waiter mentioned that the manager came to us to tell us about the Seabass and them she ordered a replacement for us, obviously she wasn't aware about my request about coriander, but she never came to us to tell about the fillet of Seabass. Then we received one dessert and the waitress said this is from the first menu, the dessert from the second is still about to come. Ok, we were waiting and when they brought was exactly the same. By that point I was very disappointed, so I call the manager. She listened to me, but the only think she did was to give 50% of discount on my cocktail. I just think it's not fair because she didn't tell me in the first that they haven't have any fillet left and she didn't even asked me what I would like to have, she just replaced with something with Seabass, but cheaper and with coriander. And from 2 different set menus at least bring me some different dessert BC the point was to have more dishes to try, otherwise we wouldn't pay more for if. We decided to pay more to have a better experience. Anyway, she didn't fix anything. Just think that she should care more about the customers and try at least to make it up.
The place is nice, the food is very nice and the interiors design is amazing, but definitely the staff need some training, especially the management!
B. B.
Had a decent experience, my first time at this location.
The plus points are the music, the decor and the overall vibe of the place was excellent.
My personal favourite was the staff, they were welcoming, helpful and but most of all looked like they enjoyed working there.
I would back for that last point alone.
The gentleman on the door on Saturday night was especially courteous.
The only downside I can point out is that as we went for just drinks and no food on Saturday, myself and my group felt that the drinks were somewhat underwhelming and lacking value.
Apart from that I would say it was a good experience
S. G.
Food and cocktails are very good. Although it does arrive late and staggered (at least 2 hours from the first dish to the last dish). The servers are also not totally familiar with the menu and I've experienced them forgetting parts of my order which is unfortunate when you're paying so much.
Y. C.
Very nice and attentive serversz
The food was good and loved the halloween decorations and music.
Yellow tails, tuna tartare were my favorite:)
M. D.
First time at Chotto matte and I loved it, such an amazing place with incredible staff and food. Such a welcoming environment, excellent service! Katarina our waitress was a star. I would recommend this restaurant and I will be back very soon.
S.
The food was amazing, so many different flavours and fusions that I've never tried before but loved. Continuing EOTHO through September so we had an absolute bargain of a meal with the bento boxes £10 a head (or £15 with the cocktail). It was surprisingly filling too. Loved the decor too and outdoor seating was a bonus. Will definitely return.
K. B.
Such an amazing experience!
Had a selection of delicious meat and vegetarian dishes which we absolutely loved! The dessert platter was just the cherry on top!
Very bubbly vibe and lovely team! Thank you Alessia and Cristina for making this night out special!
We will definitely come back as soon as this will be possible!
D. S.
Quite expensive and very noisy. The food was ok but mostly nothing special. Not as good as when we visited a few years ago.
M. D.
Good food, however my colleague found a hair in his miso soup. Also don't bother with the pink grapefruit mocktail. Good bento box
C. H.
We started our evening with a selection of the house cocktails, two of which were served in intriguing little bottles to be poured over a glass of ice. Very fun! Later into the meal we ordered some wine, a beautiful tempranillo from Rioja, which complimented the food fabulously.
Every dish was a delight, the asado de tira (beef) in particular was so tender that it literally fell apart and was beautifully marinated. The fried chicken and the pork belly were my other two favourites of what we had. Every dish was perfectly paired with sauces where appropriate, and the timing and grouping of the dishes was well thought out. Massive compliments to the chefs.
The service was excellent, we were served by Miguel, who was fun, professional, and gave excellent suggestions. His table management was impeccable, and he gave us clean plates when appropriate for the change in dishes.
It was my first time trying sushi and ceviche, and I couldn't imagine a better place to do so. Even the most particular in our group enjoyed it. The ceviche had a citrus flavour of course, and was served at the start of the meal, so was a wonderfully fresh appetiser. The tuna sushi was served at the end of the meal, and was a delicious introduction sushi for everyone that had never tried it before.
Finally the dessert, the magical chocolate ball, recommend by Miguel. It was beautifully presented, and paired perfectly with a coffee tequila. An excellent ending to a perfect night. We left the restaurant full, and happy. I would give more stars if it were possible, and I will definitely be back!

My favourite restaurant in London, frankly speaking. It combines my two favourite cuisines: Japanese and Peruvian, set up in a modern decor and chillout vibe. I have spent several birthdays/anniversaries here and each time the menu confirms my opinion that this restaurant is truly a gem in the heart of London. A combination of unique flavours that go so well together and impeccable service.
A. G.
Surprisingly good Japanese vegetarian food. Almost Michelin star. Staff are also very attentive. Our family really enjoyed the dining experience.
W. K.
Great atmosphere, good food.
Z. A.
Boy oh boy, this place blew my socks off.
I absolutely loved this place. Period.
The ambiance, the environment, the staff, the food, I don’t know where to start.
Lets start with the food. It is a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese, and the chefs have managed to get the menu spot on. There is a mix of Oriental spice and South American kick to each dish. The lamb chops are to die for. The sushi is spectacular. The miso aubergine was beautiful. The chicken which was BBQ’d and succulent. The beef was also melt in the mouth gorgeous. And my oh my, you have to get the sharing dessert platter for 2 at this place. It was bloody amazing. We were spoilt for choice.
The kitchen is an open kitchen, and if you’re sitting at the bar area, which we did, you can see the chefs working away, paying meticulous concentration to each and every dish. So much work and appreciation goes into it.
We arrived slightly late after our reservation but the team was understanding and accommodated for us. The lovely waiter who looked after us, (I forgot her name sadly) was so great, and ensured we were well looked after.
The ambiance and atmosphere is 10/10. Perfect for a date night, perfect for a group, perfect for any occasion or celebration.
For those of you wondering if they serve halal food, they do indeed. The chicken, beef and lamb is halal (big plus for me).
Each to their own but I don’t understand the negative reviews on this one, if you’re in London, this place is a shout, thank me later!
M. A. U.
Loved the place. A girl named Marketa was serving us and she was super friendly and knew a lot about the place and its history.
Nice music and very pricey drinks
O.
Words cannot describe what my mouth experienced. It was so delicious I had tears come to my eyes a few times. The food was heavenly delicious, the waiter serving us was very friendly. I cannot wait to go back
G.
Love this place! Passed million times but never actually got inside. Until now! Amazing selection of drinks, lovely service, great crowd , great music. Very comfy chairs, what's actually important on long sitting nights. And finally- fancy toilets😉I mean really-sinks are amazing!
A. G.
Menu was quite complex but food was superb. Our server Klaudia was excellent and extremely helpful.
S. M.
Drinks are great, vibe is great and the waiters are lovely. Cant complain.
J.
Great first time experience here, staff were super friendly and accommodating. We were able to move tables when we requested and Brian who was serving us made our time there comfortable and enjoyable. The food and cocktails were both very good, well presented and portions are a good size.
E. F.
Average food for a high price tag. Nice cocktails.
A. P.
We came for the Bento boxes, and weren't disappointed. Delicious flavor and texture combos, decent sized portions, attentive and friendly staff a really satisfying and enjoyable experience. Cocktails were also nice, the location excellent and with the government "eat out" scheme shaving £30 off the bill, I would give it 6 stars if I could.
B. W.
Great atmosphere. Sat outside and beer is not that pricy. They also give you tasty snacks with your II plus orders for drinks.
S. D.
We had a really great time here. Super friendly bartender and the drinks were excellent. I recommend just sitting at the bar and watching them mix the drinks. It is really entertaining!
A. B.
We had a wonderful evening at Chotto Matte, all thanks to the wonderful chefs and the lovely Sabi! Delicious food, as always, and exceptional service with a smile. We look forward to coming back soon :)
A. D. S.
Execellent food and vibe. Recommend the grilled chicken hearts and ceviche... And shared desert platter too!
j. K.
Throughly enjoyable evening with amazing food... service was good and atmosphere was on point too!
M. S. J.
Excellent food - fun and a bit different than the usual Japanese or Peruvian - great cocktails - excellent service; always helpful and friendly.
E. A.
Very nice ambiance. Nice place for pre dinner drinks
C. J.
All my fav sea food! This is the first time I've tried sushi and it did not disappoint! BRING ON PART 2
C. N.
Very cool restaurant and nice nikkei food. We had asado de tira, sushi and ceviche and they were all great! Recommended!
B. P.
I recently visited London and a good friend of mine recommended I check out Chotto Matte. This place is amazing! Interior decor is really chic and upscale. I went closer to 9pm and there was 6 of us in my party. The restaurant has a trendy lounge feel at night. I loved the atmosphere- it was buzzing with conversations with some of the hottest music playing in the background. We had some dietary restrictions in our party(I’m a vegetarian and two of my friends were vegan) but we had no issues finding delicious food to try on the menu. The wait staff was great to deal with! They didn’t hesitate to accommodate our dietary restrictions and made recommendations on tapas we should try. I would definitely go back to Chotto Matte!
Tips: this place gets booked up pretty fast, make reservations here at least a week ahead.
J. L.
This is an experience not to be missed! Me and my husband came to have a dinner and received an incredible service. Katerina, our waitress, made our night. She explained the menu told as the most popular dishes and was very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend the black cod, octopus and Nikkei sashimi. We never had this kind of fussion food before but we will definitely come back!
R. G.
Great food and vibe. In my London Top 10 definately
K. K.
I am a vegan and I found this restaurant an amazing place with an exciting range of spiced and varied vegetables. I especially liked the Tempura. The way it encompasses exotic flavours was a delight, and it took full advantage of the natural textures of the veggies.
Warm and welcoming staff with great service.
G. S.
Best food, great cocktails, nice place, nice vibe
L. F.
Was there last week for dinner as it was my wife's birthday. We had a few cocktails by the bar , I must say they are trendy and expert mixologist.
The staff were ever so friendly and we were taken to our table. The place was suddenly buzzing, music on decks and plates of food being taken over by the staff. The food was delicious , we tried the tasters menu and the portions were amazing. They even surprised us with the birthday celebration . I am definitely going back.... Simply amazing
C. A.
The Tasting menu with Black cod is good value for money at 65 pound pp. The amount of food was not only generous but tasty and never boring. Its great when you decide to go for a tasting menu and not one single dish is dull. Will come back. Ps: Brian did a really great job looking after us, so friendly and attentive.
A. S.
Not my choice for ~£90+ a head
Service was good
Ambience was good
Food was okay for the money, flavours repeated a fair few times.
Drinks were good.
Fire alarm kept going off which was very off putting.
Would rather spend my money elsewhere. Nothing WOW.
A. H.
The team is just amazing, explaining each dish we were served with passion.
M. S.
Excellent service, food and drinks. Trendy, upscale place.
Highly recommend: Moshi Moshi (drink), Nikkei sashimi, black cod, yuca frita, Nikkei dressed sushi (aubergine miso and salmon black garlic aioli were my fave)
N. M.
One of my favourite restaurants to go to in London now. Service was amazing compared to other restaurants I’ve been to. Food was insane and I was so happy to find out all their meat was halal when I got there.
C. C.
Excellent service, food and drinks!10+
C. H.
Food was just OK, for the price I expected more. The aubergine was one of the best dishes I've had anywhere, but that was the only dish that I'd recommend. It is a very cool setting, and the service was good it's just let down by the food.
C. W.
Incredible food, great cocktails and amazing staff. What more can i say, would definitely return back here. We had the bbq beef, pork belly, tempura and dragon roll, all were super tasty.
j. h.
Awesome food and our server Bryan was the absolute best. I’d visit again just to be served by him! Handled my allergies with no problem at all. Thanks so much!
D. M.
Interesting food and cocktails at Soho prices. You'll want around 3 dishes a head. Cocktail menu is hard to decipher and the drinks are quite small - but the pisco sour is great.
A. A.
Very nice modern trendy atmosphere. Good creative food.
L. E.
We loved our dinner. The menu was amazing and the fusion was so great. Big ambience and nice. Our waiter, Sabi, was absolutely amazing, caring and fun!
Definitely will come back.
i. r.
Great food. Bryan exceptional member of staff. Showed class, energy and charisma to welcome us back after a long awaited quarantine night out
N. F.
It's a good place, drinks are good, service by the waiters is excellent, however the price can sometimes be expensive. It's a good place to be with family and friends.
I. B.
Just came back from Peru the other week. It's amazing to be able to enjoy the niku (Peruvian Japanese fusion) here in London too. Flamed Nikkei sushi recommended.
Staff is really helpful and friendly.
F. 9.
First time back at Chotto Matte in quite a few years. Well set up for outdoor dining due to restrictions but we were given the table between the two gazebos with no heating or shelter :( Also seated 5-10 minutes late which isn't good when table is for 90 mins. Due to street opening at 11pm we had to place all food and drink orders by 10pm. Then at 10.40 we were rushed off table and given plastic cups to finish our wine on the street because they had to take everything down. Couldn't relax because of the time limit. Appreciate it's been a difficult few months and they want as many sittings as possible but giving the price/restaurant style they need to think about this more. Service and food very nice.
H. B.
Great atmosphere.. very busy..food plentiful
B. K.
Very interesting fusion food... delicious and authentic... must try...
S. T. O. R. M.
Great food, great service, great place! Would definitely visit again. Highly recommend if you dont mind spending a bit more than usual
L. d.
Overrated. Atmosphere is nice (better downstairs though) but that's pretty much it. The spicy tuna sushi is very average. The miso aubergine was tasty but too pricey for what you get. The seabass ceviche was extremely small for the price and a bit dry. We also ordered nigiri, the fatty tuna was great, the rest were okay but again pricey. The purple potatoes were quite nice. The only impressive thing was the black cod, really tasty. The desert - chocolate fondant with icecream was really tasty too, but I didn't go there for the desert... £70 per person, just not worth it for what we ate, and let me clarify I am happy with spending money on nice restaurants, but in this case the price and quality did not match.
Our waiter was really caring and friendly, he was portuguese from Porto, on a Wednesday night, don't know his name. He was great and made the experience far better, he's the reason why I am giving 3 stars. The rest of the service not impressive for the price you're paying, particularly at the beginning when we arrived and even though we had a booking we were seated in a bad table upstairs, surrounded by too many people (not okay for covid). Even though I saw plenty of empty tables upstairs with way more space between them, the answer was I couldnt move tables because they were already booked. Well, I also had a booking! Not happy with the answer I went downstairs, saw a few more empty tables with far more space between them. Asked the receptionist if I could move there, the answer was yes! As easy as that. But it seems some people in the service just dont want to bother.
Overall good atmosphere but the value for money is noy okay.
A. B.
The food - amazing, as always 5 stars, we ordered more even though we were stuffed (would recommend the octopus)
3 stars due to lack of following any guidance regarding the safety of diners in the current environment... Only a few people wearing facemasks when walking around the place, the tables upstairs are crammed as they were before (maybe worse), the backs of all of our chairs were touching with those around us - with the head of the diner behind me less than 50cm from mine. The tables in the middle between the bar and the outer benches should really have been removed - people constantly walked so close to our table that it was kicked 3-4 times during dinner. The waiters were overwhelmed with the amount of people there, the service suffered terribly.
While understanding the pressure the hospitality industry is under to survive, the lack of thought and disregard towards safety was shocking especially when estabments similarly priced have done a better job.
If you are at all concerned about social distancing / pandemic safety then I would consider an alternative. We will not be returning soon.
K. J.
Really good fusion food. The decor was great and along with the atmosphere. Toilets were very clean. Only issue is that personally I am not a fan of restaurants with very dim lighting, was a little hard to read the menu.
R. B.
Was very impressed with this place.
I love sushi and was a bit skeptical as this is a modern/fusion take on sushi. A lot places in London try this and fail IMO. You can still get excellent nigiri and fav’s like O-Toro, Uni, etc. However, even the more modern/flashy dishes and rolls were very tastefully done. Cocktails on point too 👌.
I also never review things, but what prompted me to do this was excellent customer service. I showed up early the day before covid-lockdown 2 and was seated no question. My bill was also incorrect and the staff were quick to point this out (themselves) and correct it. Responses online are fast too.
My only neg feedback is things are pricey, but honestly if you’re getting fusion sushi at an upscale Soho venue, what do you expect? You pay what you get for and I have to say Chotto-Matte was worth the premium!
a. “. w.
Went on a Saturday night. Great vibe very busy, staff very helpful and friendly. Food and drinks were great. Fab menu. Japanese fusion and sushi plenty of choice. Great vibe will definitely visit again. Toilets worth a visit too 😜
A. A.
Perfect & unique Peruvian/Japanese fusion plates. Music selection is really nice.
S. M.
Incredible quality of food, every dish is really flavorful and clearly well thought out. It isn't somewhere for a quiet dinner however with lots of loud music and a dark atmosphere. It is also a pretty expensive meal so be prepared to pay a fair bit
L. D.
The food was great. Highly recommend the blackened cod. Our waitress Eileen (apologies for the spelling) took very good care of us.
The lack of five stars is down to two points.
1. The length if time between dishes. There were some points when there was nothing on the table.
2. The state of the toilets. Two stalls in the ladies were non functioning and you think that they could invest in clearer occupancy signs.
Expect to spend about £90-100 per person. This includes drinks and the service charge. Food quality was on par with the price.
K. K.
Incredible quality of food, every dish is really flavorful and beautifully presented. Amazing atmosphere and visuals somewhere for a nice dinner however with music and low lighting. It is also a pretty expensive so be prepared to pay a fair amout
R. A.
Its fine nothing more. Had to ask 3 different people to get served. Cocktails were as much as you'd want to pay and weren't very well balanced.
They were having some tech issues with the lights at the time which was amusing.
Left after one drink
S. S.
Never tasted food like it in my life! Absolutely amazing. Went for my friends birthday Andi was blown away! Definitely recommend... Can't tell you what the best thing is on the menu, as everything is AMAZING!
T. R.
Service is great. Atmosphere is great too. Food was tasty. Music was loud. Location is very central.
F. P.
An amazing food deserve an amazing service and Chotto Matte deliver both without doubt. I have been there twice the first time with my girlfriend and the second time with some friends. Both the visits have been absolutely stunning. Andrej, the restaurant manager was attentive and checked twice if everything was ok. The service from the waiters was professional and really appreciated. And finally the food. I must say without a doubt that all the dishes we ordered where cooked to perfection. The dressing was spot on. The flavours mind blowing. I'll be back 😎.
N. B.
The service is great but the food could be better.
B. T.
Service was mixed - one waitress was great the other was not very present but definitely very rude.. they suggested the sharing menu which ended up being a total screw up because we spent a fortune and had very little food and only one or two dishes were remarkably delicious - the rest was average. Some portions could hardly be split in 3-4 people and we were 6, you'd expect a sharing menu to cater for the number of people in the party (since they "highly recommend the sharing menu for group of 4 or more". Good desserts and decent cocktails but for over £100 each I would expect a memorable meal (instead of a memorably empty stomach and wallet!)
N. W.
I was really impressed with this place.
The atmosphere is amazing.
The food is stunning. I really enjoyed my sushi, salad and tea.
The only thing that was mediocre is service. But I loved my experience here, so I rated it 5 stars!!!
K. G.
The food was pricey, and the portions small. But it was well worth it! The food was tasty with very unique flavours. The only downside was they had cramped the restaurant way too much, to a point where waiters couldn't get around without bumping people.
L. r.
One of my favorite restaurant in the world. Crazy about it !! The food is just amazing !!!!!!!!!!!
A. A.
One of the best team well experienced charmingly amazing food reasonable values I have good experience on best resturant I belive this one one off the high rank carry on
A. C.
Fab meal out with my best friend at Chotto Matte tonight. Bryan our waiter was amazing and ensured all our dietries and preferences were catered for. Bryan is a star
M. B.
Amazing place!!! I will definitely recommend to my friends. Great service from Katerina, she looked after us and gave us good recommendations on food and drinks. Food was very tasty and drinks very nice as well.
Very nice atmosphere everyone was really friendly, i will definitely come back!!
Thank you chotto matte team for the experience!
S. C.
Amazing cocktails and food. Customer service as well - everyone was really nice and polite. I strongly recommend it!
P. M.
Went here on a work night, taken out by some clients, don't remember the food , I don't think we ordered much , but by God the Pisco sours are well worth the visit , so tasty and I ended up on completely the wrong train home
X. W.
Absolutely outstanding food and service. The staff are exceptionally well trained and accommodating, and the food is absolutely amazing. I would eat here every week if I could afford it. Try the cocktails, they'll make anything you like if you ask nicely. Some of the clientele are a bit pretentious and arrogant, but the great atmosphere and top notch staff more than make up for it.
J. B.
Great vegetarian sharing menu! Very tasty
M. K.
Usual soho bar good service just central London drinks prices
K. O.
Creative cuisine, nice flavours, good ingredients, fast service.
D. S.
Nothing complain about food but they should be better on services (reception).
The place were quite empty but the receptionist put people into the same section. We literally could listen people’s conversations next to us. Obviously I do understand this if the restaurant were busy, but apparently it was very empty. Only the five-six table around window were full while other tables were empty in the other section.
H. G.
I always have lovely time. Service is very friendly and quick and foods are absolutely delicious. Highly recommend! Keita is the best 👌
D. F.
Lovely place, superb food, pleasant staff and fun ambience.
A. S.
Took a client here and we loved it. Sat upstairs, next to the open kitchen and didn't know what we wanted to eat as it all looked so good!! The waiter created a mix of dishes for us (£50pp) and it was great!! The Peruvian/Japanese fusion and flavours were like nothing I'd tasted before, coupled with high quality steak and fish - I'd recommend this place for a great evening out.
B. C.
Quite a lovely restaurant with good cocktails and food. Great service. Bit overpriced for what it is.
R. K.
A great place for some excellent food. All dishes we ordered were excellent - high quality food and very good size portions. Sushi and sashimi were delicious. The fusion efforts worked well, place is decorated well - with really good round tables for large groups. Cocktail menu also fun! 100% would recommend this place for a causal date night or a evening out with a group of friends.
R. R.
Overall average experience, but good food. We were seated at 22:15 and didn't get attended to until 22:40. The music was way too loud - I couldn't hear my friend talk! The food was good. Our favourite was the tiger prawns. The desserts were amazing, specifically the green tea mochi which was out of this world! The manager gave us our desserts on the house, to apologise for the long wait at the beginning - and for those reasons I'd give it a 4 star rating.
T. D.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in London and was gutted when in lockdown, most restaurants will only deliver using Supper which has a limited radius but Chotto has a broader range within M25. The Chotto at Home Signature Box is amazing! Have ordered it 3 times, about to order it for a fourth :-) Super delicious
O. T.
Lovely food, terrible service. Very rude staff.
H. B.
Great food, portions sizes are decent but you need to order a few dishes to make a meal of it.
N. J.
Finding the place wasn't hard, just follow your google maps. When we arrived it was very loud with people drinking downstairs but they took us upstairs to our table where it was less loud and better atmosphere.
Our waitress was amazing- can not fault the service whatsoever. Portion sizes are good- not small at all. Order 7 plates and it was all amazing- after 5 plates we were already full.
Would definitely recommend this place!
D. O.
Not cheapest. But their theatre set meal is a great option. Super tasty. Pin point service. Maybe waiters were a little too keen to help at points but can't really criticize that too much. Great decor and atmosphere.
N. P.
Okay so food here is amazing. three stars this visit because the service was really lacking. Arrived at nine with a tasting menu and didn't leave until midnight. Asked multiple times for desert (maybe from around 11:30) and staff kept saying it was coming but nothing was served until 12:00 when they started putting up the lights and closing up... Was one of those unpleasant moments when you are keeping all the staff there and you don't enjoy the dish which is awful given the cost of it all! It's weird because no such issues existed last time I came. I'd be hesitant to come again because bad service makes the experience less enjoyable. That said the food is delicious and I would recommend going once. The Rioja by the glass is also great.
i. l.
Very nice place to eat, drink and listen to a good music. Lovely service, tasty food and atmosphere
J. T.
We ordered the vegetarian tasting menu, which they were able to make vegan for us. The food itself was great - nicely presented and good variety of flavours in the different dishes. We were very hungry when we went there so we ordered an additional side and left very full.
My partner had been here before and the tasting menu had changed slightly - she really liked one of the dishes, which was now not on it anymore. This wasn't a problem but when we asked about it I think the waiter took it as a complaint (bit of a language barrier, maybe). The manager came over to clarify that they change the dishes frequently and was very helpful and nice.
We went fairly early in the evening when it wasn't very busy yet, but due to the large open space I could imagine that it can get quite loud once the restaurant is busier.
K. S.
Too expensive for what it's worth. We went on a group of 6 people with a mixture of vegetarians and non vegetarians.
Starters were too small. Don't even bother ordering corn puffs, they are not good and a joke! Main courses did not taste that great.
Drinks were decent and restaurant ambience is nice.
Staff delivered wrong food to our tables twice and didn't bring one of our starters. They then complained to me why I didn't pay the full discretionary service charge!
Not going there again.
I. F.
Not sure why the other reviews complain about the service. I thought the service was pretty damn quick considering it was packed on a Friday evening, took a bit longer towards the desserts but I mean it's not exactly hard to flag someone down. This is a buzzing joint in Soho! We had a fantastic time, try and sit at the bar - you can watch the octopus getting grilled. Great fun, I thought the food and the dessert platter were great too. We sort of just blundered in here by chance and were really impressed.
v. s.
A very creative place - we tried many dishes, fish-based, vegan, chocolate desserts, mocktails and all were unusual and very delicious.
P. M. B.
Great food, good location and very nice and friendly staff. Menu was a bit overwhelming at first, but once you think of it as tapas it's easy enough to get a good sharing selection. Unfortunately we were located in a corner next to a speaker and the music was way too loud. Hard to hear the person next to you and we all had to shout over the music. Made an otherwise great experience less so.
D. P.
Great pre-theatre menu, Asian Peruvian fusion, love the food and interior of the place.
О. Я.
Yummy food. Great music. Friendly and experience staff. Waitress Katerina was a star, helped us to choose our meal and served us fast. A must visit when ur in London!
A. T.
2 words - Expensive but amazing. Great fusion cuisine. Great service and lovely atmosphere
N. S.
It has a superb high energy atmosphere, bright vibrant murals, stylish dark décor and a superb menu. The menu is diverse but I'd recommend one of the set menus as you are treated to a range of dishes along particular themes that just keep on coming. The cocktails go well with the food, with a number of quirky twists on traditional drinks.
Seating downstairs would be fine but I suspect upstairs had the edge. The staff were professional, service was very good and the gave the impression that nothing was too much effort. I cannot wait till my next visit!
M. W.
Was here for a dinner with my family and definitely had a nice experience.
The food there tastes great, with odd fusion twists that spark your tastebuds.
Would recommend the Nikkei gyozas, beef cheek, octopus and also the black cod.
However I can’t give five stars due to a few things.
Firstly, the waiters seemed extremely rushed and quite unprofessional in other aspects as well.
Also, the dirty toilets and the long, long wait in between dishes, which others have already mentioned.
A. N.
Great food and really good veg options top.
I. K.
The food was divine. Great customer service and staff amazing and very attentive. They were very good at asking a bout my nut allergy. Cant wait to go back.

Amazing dinner. If you enjoy watching food prep, definitely grab a seat upstairs and check out the Robata grill while you dine on amazingly flavorful dishes. The sushi is exquisite. Also, the Lima old fashioned is a delicious fusion of rum with banana and chocolate - one of the best meals if had in years!! Enjoy!

We were served by Austen, he was absolutely amazing and really friendly and gave us his opinion on his favourite dishes which we chose and thoroughly enjoyed. He also brought out a plate saying happy anniversary with some extra icecream! Thanks Austen!! In terms of the food, the octopus was my favourite dish, followed by the black cod. Everything was delicious to be honest. Least favourite would be the mushroom, truffle, tortilla chip appetiser thing. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, the graffiti walls were really cool and the music is good too - not too loud. Would definitely come back! Great experience :)

Absolutely fabulous. Great atmosphere, sublime food with surprising and unusual flavours.
Although the actual standard of the dishes were probably not Michelin star worthy, I ENJOYED the dishes more than many Michelin star restaurants I've been fortunate enough to go to.
My was is gluten-free and she had a special gluten-free menu. The taster menu I had (Nikkei I think it was called) was not only exquisite, it was huge. For a man with a large appetite, it's rare I'm left not wanting more; and I was STUFFED!
The menu itself was diverse without being laboriously long.
Toilets were also worth a mention. I'll let you discover them for yourselves but it's nice to see a bit of theatre in a part of the dining experience that's usually forgotten.
All in all, bloody good and thoroughly enjoyed.

Great food, Pity about the service. As a group of 4 ee had the tasting menu 2, but things were brought out in a very haphazard manner, multiple plates, one course never arriving. I expect a tasting menu to show the skills of the chef. Whilst the skills are certainly of a high quality, when 3 courses arrive simultaneously, is difficult to get the sense of a culinary journey.

Didn't eat in, but it was Gorgeous inside 😍

Been here a couple of times now and it never disappoints. Great selection of dishes, interesting cocktail menu and really helpful and friendly staff. On some tables I find the seating a little uncomfortable but that's a small price to pay for an otherwise amazing place.

Definitely a restaurant for special occasions only since it's quite expensive. Interesting fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine. We had one of the set sharing menus. I liked it but quite a few of the dishes had a lime sour flavour so if you don't like that i would avoid it. Worth a try!

This is now a 5 star from us.
We returned to Chotto Matte on Saturday evening and they exceeded our expectations.
From the moment we walked in, everyone was very welcoming including the security staff. The wait for our table was mininmal and we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and music. The service was impeccable. Our waitress Lenka was a delight and very knowledgable regarding the menu.
We ordered a wide selection of sharing dishes and the service was impeccable and the food was delicious. The manager on duty was also very professional and added to our enjoyment of the whole evening.
I have visited some establishments in London where the service and food have deteriorated over the years. For Chotto Matte London, they have managed to sustain or possibly even improve on the overall experience and still deliver top quality service and food. We look forward to our next visit.

This is a rather stylish place in the heart of Soho that offers an extremely pleasant experience with a wonderful wine list and crisp fresh food with a twist.
The staff have been professional from the outset and there has never been a problem with finding a space to sit and enjoy watching both the customers and the passers-by outside.
We use it as a treat every so often a few times a year but it's equally a place you could visit every week or for a one-off special occasion

Excellent. Food amazing. Service attentive but not OTT. Lovely atmosphere, great evening. Highly recommend. Not cheap.

Amazing menu of sushi and meat dishes. Delicious flavours, the kind that make you ask for a spoon so you can finish the sauce in the dish like a bowl! This is truly where Lima meets Tokyo. Highly recommend! The cocktail menu was also incredible. Their Martini menu is the best both of the old classics and the innovative new ones! And if that's not enough, then their bathrooms are pretty cool.

The food is very nice here but the value isn't there. At these prices you can get a meal in a Michelin star restaurant. We ordered the chef's tasting menu and we're told the chef would help us pick and come out half way to see what we wanted for the rest of the evening. A person came out at the start and asked us what we would like (as a normal waiter would do) and then told us what he'd recommend and that was it. No idea why there's a higher charge for this as it seems like a waiters job (in most other restaurants) to recommend food based on what you like. The food was good but for the price you pay I'd take your money elsewhere

Amazing experience. Food was something that literally made me experience new tastes. One of the waiters was extremely friendly and offered lots of info about Japanese cuisine and culture. Even if pricey it is definitely worth, as it is a first class experience.

Amazing! I ordered from deliveroo and tried a variety of dishes my favourites were the black cod, Asado di Tira (braised beef) and octopus. I could tell they used high quality ingredients and the flavour combinations were to die for!!! They served generous portions and would definitely recommend.

Amazing bar, and the best Cosmopolitan I've ever had.

Décor good, service on this evening was not. Staff handed out wrong food to customers. Saying it was one thing when it was another. Orders did not arrive at all. Rice came out 45 minutes before meat dishes. Served two persons food on one plate & when customer nearly finished eating it. Told us it was meant for two. We did not ask for sharing plate. so was a bit perplexed. Unfortunately, at first the manager did not want to hear what we had to say and tried to palm us off with shots. Eventually, he did kind of rescued the evening by offering the birthday girl ice cream and singing happy birthday!! Not really sure I would recommend this restaurant for a fun evening for eating.
