Definitely a thumbs up to Cummin Up Caribbean Take Away and caterers for the low prices! You can get tea for 30p. Tried the Jerk fried rice which was tasty but it would have been nice if it was less salty.

This place does some awesome jerk chicken and at very good prices. Used to get it most days after work and sad that I don’t live there anymore. To all the entitled clowns who say it’s bad customer service, just relax. Why are you expecting so much? It’s good food and good price and you still complain. Just enjoy and if you need someone to smile at you then go and see your friends. It’s authentic Caribbean food and we’re lucky to have it. Have the jerk chicken and rice and it’s good every time. My partner and I were looking for some real, homemade Caribbean food and came across Cummin Up. Having walked past it a few times, and seen it on Deliveroo we thought we'd try it. So good! Very tasty, good portions, lots of flavour and great prices. Would highly recommend.

Sometimes great, but suffers from an unfortunate crepuscular transmogrification; when we’ve visited during the day, the food was great and prices were a bargain; in the evening though, quality and service decreases whilst prices increase tenfold. Hence recommend a daytime visit. We’ve only ever had the vegetarian items, which were excellent. In our experience, staff were brusque and not given to small-talk, but otherwise fine. The toilet at the back has a vista of the train tracks below which brings to mind scenes from the film The Ladykillers (1955).

The curry goat was really tasty and reminded me of home cooking. The staff were really lovely, generous, and approachable. Also I’ve never seen a dumpling that big before!!! It was as big as my face and tasted great! Great value for money, can’t wait to go back.

Working in Burgess Hill food choices were limited so decided to drop into Brighton for something different, Used the Just Eat App to locate a Jamaican Restaurant / takeaway and found Cummin Up. I arrived at around 8.00-9.00pm, Parking in the street behind is free after 6.00pm so good start, and walked around to Cummin Up. It is a small place with limited seats, more a takeaway with seating than a restaurant. But warmly welcomed by the guy behind the counter. They had just taken quite a large order and only had one person cooking so had to wait a while: Was worth the wait. I stayed to eat there, people watching through the window while waiting for the food. The portion sizes are decent, food was hot and full of flavour. The whole meal including main, rice n' peas, jerk dumplings, drink and pudding came to £11.50, and since I only could eat about half that put the rest into takeaway tins making it a meal to last two days - Excellent value. The good food and good service is let down a little by the size of the restaurant and tired décor, a little investment and this could become an excellent restaurant. If I am in the area again would be coming back

A simple Caribbean takeaway with a few seats for in house dining. However the food is always absolutely brilliant. Often tastes on par or almost as good as home Caribbean cooking. As well as always having the staples of Jerk Chicken, Curry Mutton, Rice & Peas etc, they also regularly have delicious snacks, desserts and sides such as Red Velvet Cake, Carrot Cake, Guinness Punch, etc. Don't bother with the patties though, they have a lot of dry pastry and virtually no meat.

Large Oxtail, Rice n Peas: delicious food (!) though I wish there was more of it. Only had 4 little pieces of oxtail... I dread to think how small the small actually is 😕 Chuck in some more meat and I'll happily return and pay £7 again 👍

I had a chicken patty which was nice. The chicken fried rice with gravy was OK, but a bit bland and the chicken was chewy. I'm a bit disappointed with the service. I felt the guy was rude and impatient, as I'm new to this cuisine I had some questions but he was preoccupied with cooking/cleaning.

Popped in for a goat curry. Was very impressed with the £5 serving. Not too much rice and some decent bits of goat on and off the bone very tender. Staff were friendly.

Enjoyed my takeaway jerk chicken with rice and gravy for £2.50 along with the authentic vibes :)

Typical example of don't judge a book by it's cover. Incredibly tasty food, great portion size leaving hardly anything to criticise except for the looks of the store. Definitely would recommend this to anyone as an excellent take away option.

Love the smell of this place when getting of at New Cross, food is good although they don't always have all the options. - get the hot sauce on top, that makes it!
