Reviews of Din Tai Fung Selfridges

Real authentic Chinese food. Dim sums and pork are a must here. The food is amazing. Best noodles I’ve ever had. Definitely worth a visit. Great customer experience too. I will be back soon. Love this place 👌🏾😍🤤🤤

THE best place to enjoy the dumplings in the heart of London. They have a dedicated vegetarian menu section too. Make sure to order spicy cucumbers, veg dumplings & egg fried rice. Reserve your table in advance…

Chili Crab & Pork Xiao Long Bao is a must. Super yummy. Pork buns are great.
Everything was pretty tasty. We also enjoyed the sparkling sake. The view was lovely, and it was pretty efficient once we ordered. Some members of our group were ready to return the next day for the Xiao Long Bao.

Well, this Taiwanese dumpling restaurant is always busy and difficult to book apparently, but we were lucky. The price is super expensive compared to Asia, two people cost over £100 without alcohol to fill your empty stomach. This is one star deducted, some of its presentation is not really good and also not energy efficient to cook four small glutinous rice dumplings. It is famous for xiao long bao, which is a traditional chinese dumpling. We ordered both crab and pork xiao long bao, they were good, yet, the quality was not as good as in Asia, because its dumpling skin was abit too dry. However, i would recommend it if you are craving for Chinese food and having a Chinese tooth. Oh, they have robots running around, how efficient is it, not sure, because still need humans to put and take the dishes from them, but they seem safe and can avoid obstacles.

The food was really good, especially the fried pork and the salted egg yolk buns.
However service had some problems. We were 15 minutes late to our table, which we apologised for (it took a bit longer to walk than we thought and then we had to ask information desk in Selfridges where the restaurant is) and the lady who seated us said "oh. I would normally have put your table as a no show but you can sit". Not sure what the point was in saying that as there were plenty of tables for 2 throughout our time there.
We were sure to pick everything quickly because we'd been late, but it was 10 minutes until somebody came to take an order. After we ordered drinks a waiter came back, another 10 later, to say they did not have the wine I had ordered, they showed me a different menu with a different, more expensive wine, and after that we still didn't get 1 glass of wine and 1 bottle of beer until after our food had come and I asked about it. Nearly 30 minutes from us sitting to getting the drinks. We did have water already, but we were honestly half way through our meal before the drinks we ordered came.
I know this restaurant is new, and all our food came out quick, hot, and delicious, we loved the robots, our waiters were polite, but these small issues did add up a bit. We loved the noodles, perfect texture, the bursting xiao long bao was like nothing I've ever had (in a good way!) So I hope these service issues smooth out soon

Upon entering Din Tai Fung, you are greeted with a very interesting window of seeing the dumplings being made which reinforces its integrity and authenticity. The decor is simply charming and very aesthetically pleasing. As we were seated you could see two small robots circumnavigating the place, the cat robot Din alone gets a star.
The staff were lovely, we were served by Debbie, who was simply a pleasure.
The food, although a tad bit pricey was really good. Genuine flavours which were not marred by MSG. Service was quick and efficient without much delay, and it was fun just watching the two robots hover around the room.

A neat DTF experience with great food in a bright and well lit location. Everything tasted spot on and the service was good - including from DTFs signature robots. We prefer this venue to the other one in Covent Garden. For starters we were seated immediately with no wait when we arrived at 6pm on a Friday.

It is a surprise to find this restaurant as the Din Tai Fung in Covert Garden is always busy & long-queue-waiting. Here I only waited around 10 mins before seated and there are 2 interesting robots helping the staff to deliver food or collect dirty dishes. I can imagine here will become a regular visiting place for me after shopping. :)

Love love Din Tai Fung’s new location in Selfridges. Super spacious, delicious food, great service and just overall really consistent. One of my favorites in London!

My favorite vegetarian dumplings were the truffle mushroom. Definitely 4 stars for the dumplings!
But I would give 3 starts for the venue it is very casual and mall like style.

I visited the other store in Covent Garden not too long ago and....I prefer this one! Skipping the environment, both of them fancy and refined, I found a certain difference in the quality and taste of the dishes between the two places. Especially for the fried rice! We ordered two of them but I would have eaten more! Everything else was delicious as well. The reason why I can't give 5 stars is the price. I know london is expensive and the quality is high, but if you think that the original price (in Taiwan) is way more than half...you judge!
Despite the price, I will visit the restaurant again from now and then, when I will be craving for Taiwanese.

Great service. The waiters were very nice. The food came very quickly. Big choice of food and it was very good.

I remembered tastier dumplings in their restaurant in Dubai. I don’t know if it was just this time but I feel you can get better and cheaper dumplings in Chinatown

Sorry to read about others experiences, but ours was great!
Reservation - all good, even when we changed it on the day.
Food delicious, as were the drinks - service from our waitress was very attentive and polite.
Robots were a lovely touch to look at as well.
I will come back again to try other parts of the menu!

Small portions and quite expensive. Wasn’t the best din tai Fung experience I’ve had. Nothing particularly bad, it just didn’t feel like I got what we paid for. The soft drinks were like £4 a drink…
T. N.
We've been to a few Ding Tai fungs and this one was ok. It's almost smaller as it's based inside Selfridge's. That being said, we made a reservation online, and would recommend to make bookings in advance as it was busy. Went for the usual xiao long baos, and tried chicken and veg wontons in spicy sauce and chicken and prawn wontons with Sezchuan noodles. Xiao long baos did not disappoint, the other two dishes were good but did not find them spicy. Overall service and food was good, interesting to see their robots at work

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The taro xiao long bao was probably the best (surprisingly) and people really should give it a chance! It’s so good. The black truffle is a must try! Really special & amazing flavour, not too strong. The amount of truffle inside is just about right. The chili chicken and vegetable wonton was awesome, not too spicy but the chili was really a bonus to the taste. However, the crab and pork xiao long bao was quite disappointing, which was supposed to be a house specialty! I barely couldn’t find any crab in it and it was just average xiao long bao that I can get at other restaurants as well.
But overall it’s worth visiting again.

The food was great, especially the chicken buns and the spicy chicken won tons. We were walk ins for lunch, a group of 5. We were happy to split into a table of 2 and a table of 3 to make seating quicker, but were told that would make no difference. We waited at the bar, though were not able to get a drink because all seating was taken. We waited 30 minutes for a table and were a little frustrated to watch several groups of 2 and 3 get seated during that time. The staff were very pleasant.

I love this place. First of all, excellent customer service from start to end. Food was perfect and it wasn’t over priced. Interior and sitting area are very well planned & comfortable. This restaurant is one of good restaurant in London. Highly recommend :) 10 out of 10

Part of the overall shopping experience which is Selfridges, the restaurant offers lovely food - at a fairly high price. One of the primary specialities is dumplings. The restaurant can get quite busy, but my party didn't have to wait in line long for a table.

😭😳 not enough words to express the taste and the quality of the food served here..
We took the classic xiaolongbao (pork & vegetables), the crab + pork xiaolongbao, the shrimp xiu mai and the chicken & vegetables wontons (which were a little bit less tasty than the other ones according to my boyfriend and I).
The prices are high but it’s normal !
Be careful to get a reservation first because you will be queuing otherwise.
N. C.
Absolutely lovely xiaolongbao, they are all you need in life. The wonton are great too.
E. (.
Delicious XLB, especially the chili crab flavour, and wontons in chili oil.
W. B.
Lovely and attentive staff. Didn’t really like the canteen vibe atmosphere and it made me feel like eat and leave. I know it’s not easy to prepare those dishes/dumplings but definitely need more flavour.
S. B.
We visited for dinner on a Friday and thought the ambiance was nice but both the food and the service were just okay. I wouldn’t really recommend this place.
Food: The mushroom and truffle xiao long bao were fine but dry since they were missing the soupy filling. The chicken bao were better but underwhelming in flavor. The dumplings were pretty good as were the veggie side dishes. Also enjoyed the lychee black boba tea a lot!
Service: The waiters were very attentive but I did have an issue that I was seated in a middle table with nowhere to put my purse since the chairs had a curved back that you couldn’t hang short straps from. I had put it on a chair at the empty next table but was asked to move which reasonable, but not offered any other solution except I guess to put it on the floor? I ended up putting it on our small table itself but this was really awkward for the rest of the meal (the waiter even spilled water on it at one point by accident because the table was crowded). I expected at a decent restaurant the staff would come up with a better solution of where to put my bag but unfortunately not.
Ambiance: Cute place with nice views out the windows and adorable sever robots.
M. S.
The mushroom xiao long bao were amazing. They got a robot server too.
S. B.
Amazing Long Xiao Bao (soup dumplings)! So perfectly made, each dumpling is like a little work of art. Highly recommend the green beans with pork... so green, so delish, so lovely.
Had the pork long Xiao bao, the crab and pork long Xiao bao and the mushroom and truffle long Xiao bao.
The mushroom and truffle dumplings were a taste explosion!!!! I wasn't expecting such richness from a mushroom dumpling but it was like a umami bomb had gone off in my mouth!
We finished up with the red bean and chocolate lava dumplings!!! Another amazing hit!!! The chocolate was like rich and velvety, the red beans with the chocolate make it taste like a fudge bomb!
Also, the 2 robots that work the room are incredibly cute!!!
A. R.
Food is expensive for what it is, not worth it. I should’ve listened to the other reviews. I got charged £3 for a very tiny spicy sauce I asked for as extra and mistake that I said yes to considering it wasn’t even on the menu and was just an optional extra should have been complimentary, unfortunate since I’ve been a previous customer. Please improve your customer service.

Beautiful food , not too badly priced .You might want to book ahead to save waiting around for a table. The steamed buns are especially nice.
S. K.
The best dumplings ever. We first experienced the brand in Taiwan, then in Dubai. The London outlet does not disappoint. Excellent!
L.
We love Din Tai Fung globally as the food is yummy and quality is constantly great! The service was quick and efficient. No long waits
J. B.
The xiao long baos barely contained much broth, the sticky rice dumplings barely had any flavour, and the cucumber salad tasted homemade. The other din tai fung is better.
There was a robot that drives around collecting your plates.
J. C.
Friendly service. Harper was very tentative throughout our time there. Unfortunately for some other patrons, we did see and hear otherwise. Noodles were pricy but scrumptious. Food were at the right temperature when they arrived, good to eat immediately - luckily we staggered our orders. Steam buns were soft. Dumpling skins were thin and supple. Top of our list were the Minced Pork & Glutenous Rice Shao Mai and Salted Egg Yolk Custard Lava Bun.
K. H.
Had excellent service by the staff especially Yasmin who was super helpful and efficient at getting two very hungry people a table to try the great food. Thanks for your help Yasmin - super appreciated!
A. B.
First time eating Xiao Long Baos and was not disappointed! They also had a nice choice of veggie dishes
A. P.
As per usual, great Xiao long Baos, amazing food, friendly staff, cool robots & yummy cocktails! Highly recommend!

Slow service.
Cake looked great but not as tasty as I was expecting.
N. T.
Great food but most vegetarian options are unavailable. Great service.

Not great veg or vegan menu, but Good experience
Little on the expensive side, but expected given it's in Selfridges

Fab and tasty food

Just visited the new branch in Selfridges. The service was great and the waitress/ host was accommodating to my nut allergy and show me suitable dumpling options that were nut free and vegetarian friendly.
Honestly, my sister and I were really satisfied with the quality of the food and tasted so nice. The service was perfect we will be going back.
B. Z.
Friendly staff and quick service, and food was good as expected

(Translated) The dining environment is comfortable, and it is very convenient to book a table in advance. The taste is not bad, the meal is much better than other Chinese restaurants. And this restaurant has a food delivery robot (white) and a food receiving tray (black) robot.
(Original)
用餐環境舒適,能事先網上訂位,非常方便。味道還不錯,餐點比其他中餐廳好吃多了。而且這家有送餐機器人(白色)和收餐盤(黑色)機器人哦。

(Translated) Very good, just a pity that in all ravioli there is pork, except the vegan ones of course, but there are no shrimp and fish ravioli without pork inside.
Friendly waiters, nice and clean place.

Molto buono, peccato solo che in tutti i ravioli ci sia il maiale, tranne quelli vegani ovviamente, ma non ci sono ravioli di gamberi e di pesce senza dentro il maiale.
I camerieri gentili, posto bello e pulito.
Consigliato

(Translated) Not long after the opening, the store was quite chaotic, and there were vacancies for side dishes and other dishes. Chicken soup tastes different from Taiwanese, other items are the same.
(Original)
剛開幕不久,店內比較混亂,小菜等菜品有空缺。雞湯跟台灣味道不同,其他的品項都一樣。

(Translated) Pros: Service is top notch.
Cons: The white rice is probably the cheapest old rice in the market, and the rice that has not been washed and is directly stuffy is hard to swallow. The beef in the beef noodles is of poor quality. It is understandable that the Sichuan beef tendon has been frozen for too long and is not fresh. To save costs, you need to purchase some cheap raw materials, but the basic food quality and freshness must be guaranteed. After all, the positioning is not a low-end chain restaurant.
(Original)
Pros: Service is top notch.
