Reviews of Eat Tokyo
P. S.
One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London. The price is very reasonable and the food is very good quality and delicious. Top notch place for lunch or dinner. I suggest you book before you go as it can get extremely busy.
M. M.
Insane value for money. Amazing selection. Would definitely give 5 stars for the food alone, unfortunately most of the staff is selectively rude, no matter if you book in advance or not. Do give it a try but do not expect the best service.
P. S.
To be honest, this is not the best japanese restaurant and some dishes are not very good , but it is worth five stars, because of the way they keep cost low make it affordable for many, no wonder they are very busy.
B.
Brilliant place to eat. Menu is stacked with options (perhaps too many) but the staff are friendly and helpful. They don't try to oversell and advise well.
The happy hour bento boxes (5pm to 7pm) are great value and more filling than you might expect... Especially when washed down with some of their delicious plum wine.
I will definitely be returning!

I had the best Japanese food I have ever had in London so far. The menu choice is huge, service is quick and everything is fresh and delicious. I will definitely come back and highly recommend!
H. B.
Perfect “no frills” sushi place. Menu is pretty much a 500 page book so quite difficult to choose what you actually want to eat but the food was really good. Staff were nice. Usually quite busy too which is fun.
S. T. A.
Very nice Japanese restaurant in Hammersmith! A variety of choices available with good food and reasonable price. 👍
P. S.
Delicious food, generous portions, friendly staff. Would recommend and would come back! Great value for money.

Always a excellent experience eating in Eat tokyo. Quality food with friendly staff. You would feel you are actually having a nice dine out in Japan. The Bento selection is highly recommended, if you want sth to fill up your beely with fair price, this is the choice you can have 100%
S. O.
Felt like a time travel to Japan, traditional setting with delicious food been back 3 days in a row 😋
W. N.
Reasonable price, good service staffs and tasty food 😋. This restaurant would be my recommendation list to my friends.

One of my favourite Japanese restaurant. I’ve been many Eat Tokyo in London. Hammersmith branch is the best. Food is fresh, variety of menu. Friendly staff and reasonable price. If you come around 5-7pm (not sure) they have promotion dinner bento set for £12.
M. L.
My favorite sushi restaurant in London. Have been to many much more fancy and way more expensive places, but this place never disappoints. The rice quality and quantity on their sushi is just right, which is the magic here! So many places just can't get this balance right. You know what to expect and they always deliver. Their fried spicy octopus legs are to die for! If you haven't tried this place you haven't tried sushi yet!!...
W. L.
Food - 4.4 stars - cannot say it s fantastic, but well made....
Menu price - 4.7 stars - quite affordable.
Service - 3.0 stars - in general most of the waitresses have lack of manners, probably they don't even realise that. They would have definitely benefitted if they lived a bit in Japan or attended a course on code of ethics.
Note that the only Japanese in the restaurant/cafe are sushi chefs
D. H.
Always delicious!! Easier to eat in that order takeaway since the menu can be confusing online, but once you know their food, you be fine. I love their sushi, gyoza and my favourite tuna teriyaki didn't disappoint👏🏼
R. G.
Probably the best price/quality Japanese restaurant in London. The Bento is excellent and the sashimi is top quality!
a.
food was great! loved the oysters, especially :)
K. E.
Authentic japanese food indeed. We had Wagyu Foie Glas Roll + complimentary wagyu rice, Tonkatsu bento and Yokubari bento. My husband and I had happy tummy fill. We ordered a chicken katsu bento for our friend. We walked in and luckily there's a free table. I suggest to book in advance especially on peak hours.
B. A.
So we had a bit of a wait to get in. We waited nearly half an hour. Once we were in it took ages to get our food ordered. The food overall was good and very good portions. The sushi was my favourite thing. The value for money is really good. Definitely recommend it.
V. S.
Omg best service!! Loved the food and people!!! Highly recommend ❤️❤️❤️💕💕💕
F. F. (.
Has to be the best traditional pork katsu in west london: delicious egg preparation, sauté bamboo, pickles, onions in massive portion
P. J.
Love the food here, especially in this branch. Great service with authentic taste. Been coming here over the years and the food taste has been very consistent.
M. M. N. (. M.
The Sashimi platter is really good value for money and the rest of the menu is also good. We become regulars in the takeaway. Friendly service, the lady was running front and back to get my order right, as due to the lockdown they only available for takeaways, so they have to only take orders at the door and run to the kitchen to the chefs.
s.
Loved the food at Eat Tokyo! There was so many options to choose from and what we ordered was so tasty.
R. R.
A place to go once and become a regular, really tasty and affordable food, one of a kind!!!
A. R.
Very accommodating. Till this day it remains one of the most reasonably priced Japanese restaurants in London (in my opinion as a cash strapped student). Though keep in mind that you are encouraged to make reservations as they are normally very packed.
谭.
They were too busy on the take away. It takes more than 40 mins to get our food after order when dine in.
Maybe I will just order take away next time. It might be quicker.
Another problem is, because of the delivery driver come in and out very often. The door always open. It’s cold when sit inside in the winter.
M. F.
We went to this restaurant on Friday evening and it was almost crowded. They told us the restaurant will close at 7.30 pm. So be early when you go. My sons enjoyed the meal but my husband and myself didn't so much. The bento boxes are big too. The prices are not bad too. Lovely atmosphere inside. Customer service is good. I am sorry I didn't take pictures of food.
C. M.
Absolutely delicious food. Took a while to get us seated but the restaurant was very popular! My fiancé said the Chicken Curry was the best he'd tasted, and both my beef rice bowl and takoyaki were fantastic. We will definitely come back!
S. U.
Very nice all round. We was seated very quickly when calling in advance. Each table was closed off with a plastic cover which is great during this pandemic.
A. S.
The food is nice :) but not keen on couple of waiting staff who chosen to wearing the same gloves throughout out the night and carry clean crockery, spoon, drink & food and with the same glove they also clean dirty table and crockery "Just imagine that! Especially during this period of crisis. Would be nice to think if they do wash hand every 15 minute🤔 for get it with the person with gloves on.
V. H.
Yummy food, extensive menu, fast service!!
Its a great place, in fact one of my favourites. I keep coming back for more.
R. A.
Popped in one evening pre-COVID for a dinner and even though it was packed they managed to get a table and we were served really quickly which was impressive. I got the spider roll which was super good. The prices are really affordable and it’s good quality. The menu is also really extensive which can be intimidating but there’s something for everyone. I’ll definitely be back post lockdown but in the meantime it’s good to know I can still enjoy their takeaway/delivery.
S. E.
Great value for money and absolutely delicious food. I usually go with their salmon and chicken teriyaki bento. Would highly recommend it.
B. D.
Fantastic place! Food gorgeous, portions decent, super-fast and lovely service, and ample menu for all tastes. Very well recommended!!
C. H.
It's amazing when you have the choice to spend between £8-£40 per person. The menu is massive and covers most Japanese dishes, all done very well. The cheapest options of bento boxes and curries are well portioned and delicious and the sushi is fresh and tasty. I'm not usually a fan of tempura but the offerings here left me going back for seconds. There is a beautiful waitress (older lady) who also makes dining here very special as her banter is second to none, I can't recall her name but she honestly makes the experience so much better. Beer and wine offerings are substantial and moderately priced and there is a decent selection of sake. Highly recommended.

Update : today returned to have lunch, very busy nice and warm atmosphere, nice Bento.. I had eel. Green tea 🍵 and time out.
——
I love eating here, always friendly and great service. I normally bring visitors from Japan as they order things in Japanese.
Sometimes when l miss being in Japan l enjoy sitting and eating Japanese food, drinking green tea and warm Saki.
A. C.
I come here all the time, the food is tasty and good value for money. The Service is a bit on and off and can be bad sometimes. Best to phone and make reservation in advance or come early and wait for the shop to open or just avoid peak times otherwise be prepared to wait.
S. S. (.
The queue here is worth the wait, super fresh tasty food and a comprehensive menu (which feels daunting until you've looked at it twice and then appreciate it diversity) although probably best coming towards the end of service rather than the start if you like to take your time with food. Don't be shy to flag staff down if you need them, and try the chicken liver Yakitori its just amazing!
y. C.
A good trip to Hammersmith with wife and found a great Japanese restaurant "Eat Tokyo". Delicious sushi, sashimi and salmon in teriyaki. Sample great international sushi food with good service and a wonderful attractive lunch time price. Wonderful.
M. C.
Not only is the food fabulous, the lady that took my takeaway order, she's friendly and funny. There is a reason why this place is gaining popularity. Sometimes, it is not just the price and the quality of the food, the staff can also make a difference. I will be back, for more!
a.
Timely service and great sushi! Both eating in and takeway. Sushi bento is my go to to order and you get exactly what you pay for, even more! Local favourite place for friends and family!
k. L.
Great food, great service, spotless! Highly recommended for everyone who wish to try this cuisine! The waiting stuff in the Hammersmith branch is always very helpful and polite and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing! A big thank you to everyone who is working so hard for our leisure!
M. M.
I'd say a busy place especially on Sundays. The restaurant opened at 5pm and got packed. Food was served quick, chefs seem to be Japanese fellows. sashimi was great and portion were decent. I ordered bento with salmon and mackerel, but didn't enjoy it, seemed to be deep fat fried.
Do go for th sashimi you won't regret it. Might visit again
K. T.
They serve really good Japanese sushi and bento with a generous portion. The sashimi are really fresh though you can tell it’s not of the best quality. Overall it’s a good value for money.
C. N.
Service: 3-4 stars out of 5 stars
Food quality: 5 stars
Food taste: 4 stars
Environment: 3-4 stars
Value: 5 stars - Super value combined with eat out to help out scheme
Price is good, service is very much depends on luck, overall bad but I see improvement lately hence higher rating. Eggplant dishes are disappointing, always taste very bitter. But their sushi, rice bowl and bento box are very good value and tasted very good.
R. M.
Excellent food. Former "dismissive" service is now very accommodating. Hard to find a better sushi bar for the price
A. B.
I recommend to call them up to reserve a table otherwise you could be waiting a very long time (20-45minutes) depending on how busy it is. The place is quite small but very busy. The food is fairly priced for the quality. I’m only giving it 4/5 stars due to the “manager” (the one with short blonde/brown hair with glasses) is really rude. I called in advanced for reservation for 5 and when I came just with 4 people, she told me off that I didn’t tell her in advance that one person couldn’t make it. When they got into an accident.. but anyway, she was still rude. She didn’t give us any menus and had to wait for another waitress to realise we were sitting there without one. And one minute later (not even exaggerating) the “manager” asked us what we want.. not even ‘are you ready to order?’ She was very rude!. I’ve been to this place 4 times and the supervisor is much more friendlier and calmer than this new manager. The supervisor is a lovely Asian lady with long hair and she puts her hair up in a bun. Anyway, food is great! Just get there with a reservation especially during dinner time. Here’s the table for 5 people supposedly and the food (since I’m pregnant, I can’t have raw food!)
E. Y.
We ordered bento boxes and they were delicious and extremely satisfying. The portions were very large. I especially enjoyed the tofu blocks, those were simply awesome.
They also have tremendous selection on their menu. Service is fast and friendly.
Highly recommended! We were there on a Tuesday evening at the place was packed. Reserve ahead if you are a group.
A. I.
Yummy and fresh food, nice and friendly service. Packed with people which is a good sign. I'm happy that I've discovered this place.
M. S.
Fantastic food, fantastic service and all at a good price. Very helpful service and happy to help. I'm very happy to recommend this restaurant, you wont be disappointed
A. M. S.
Quick service. Fair prices, around 15 £ / each with a drink. Portions are quite big. My most recommended plates are:
starters - takoyaky and rosted dumplings
Main dish: any bento
C. P.
Eat Tokyo is a chain restuarant that feels like a local. It was a comfortable space with waitresses who were keen to take our orders. The cold Saki was great especially when drunk with the sushi and sashimi. The sashimi was fresh. I liked the way the salmon and tuna rested on a bed of rice. The sushi sets were adequate though could have been a bit more generous. Then again this is the first time I have eaten sushi and sashimi in two years so I have no idea what the impact of covid is.
I would order the mushroom in Miso.. I think thats what its called. Wish they had a menu in their website.
The menu is quite extensive so it might take a bit of time to go through the list. I would recommend that Eat Tokyo put the menu on its website as I could not find it. All in all worth a visit if you want to get a bite to eat.
N. G.
Amazing food and great value happy hour bento recommended by the waitress... Will be back!
L. S.
Can't get enough of this place. Initially was a regular place for dinner but sadly moved to Essex. Since then I've sacrificed the long journey to indulge in amazing Japanese dishes. The service also make the difference and it's a factoe as to why I take the 1 hour and 15 min journey.
I. L.
No frills. Cheap and cheerful.
Cant say that it's the freshest sushi n sashimi you can find in London, but I can definitely say Eat Tokyo gives you the best value for money for a Japanese restaurant in London. Hands down.
F. X.
Nice food, but I would order something else next time. Have not tried the sashimi, not sure how fresh it would be...
E. J. P.
Lunch offers are amazing! Delicious; generous serving and relatively inexpensive. Chirashidon and a bowl of Soba noodle picture included costs less than £8 Just regretting we never went in sooner😁
K. V.
My new favourite place in the world. Amazing and delicious Japanese food prepared my experts, wide range of choices and not very expensive. Friendly, attentive staff and a great atmosphere. Can be busy so book ahead.
s. d.
I really don't want to rate this place with 5 stars because it's my favourite eatery and I don't want people to know how good it is, as it might become too popular 😕
H. K.
Very reasonably priced, good quality food with generous portions. My fave go to place for bentos.
C. O.
Food was fresh and delicious and reasonably priced. I had a salmon sushi combo platter, all very nice and the sashimi was very good too. The service isn't great to be honest... not bad, but not particularly good either. I don't know to what extent the staff are conversant in English, so this may be part of the issue, but you don't have to speak a word of English to be friendly and welcoming. Just got the feeling they want you in and out as fast as possible and don't really care to foster a welcoming atmosphere. I'd still go back though, it is what it is, but with better service this place would be excellent
P. P. H.
Friendly staffs, great food at a reasonable price. All enjoyable.
S. V.
Very busy Resturant in Hammersmith , best authentic Japanese food. Popular dishes are Japanese starters like tempura fried vegetables and seafood, dimsums and sushi.
Try their main course bento box with warm soups , and selection of Japanese beer. We went without reservation so we have limited time to dine. It's better to go with reservation. The parking is free on the side road after 5pm. Enjoy great food with good service.
K. K.
A delicious experience, great service and everyone at our table , that ordered a different meal thoroughly enjoyed...
We will definitely come again..
E. N.
Really tasty food and friendly staff. Bery low wait for being served.A lot to choose from. Booking is highly recommend for evening meal.
T. A.
Delicious, cheap for good amount of food, my favourite one is takoyaki, good service too
S. P.
Authentic Japanese food, big portions and value for money, friendly service.....simply awesome and irresistible!
C. S.
The best value Japanese restaurant in London. And the food is great too!
G. M.
Bento boxes are great! Loved the sushi and sashimi, prices are very adequate
G. C.
Great authentic Japanese food, I would recommend all their sushi and their chicken katsu curry. I tried once their ramen and it wasn't great, I would focus on other items on their menu. Apart from that, all great
S. C.
One of the best places to have Japanese food in London. Great value for money -- especially the bentos and the katsu curry --and fish is always fresh.Tempura is made to perfection.
I. J.
Authentic Japanese food at a very reasonable price. Staff are very courteous.
T.
Excellent menu. I had a mix bento box which was very nice. Only negative with it is that they used fish/crab sticks l.( bit cheap) The staff were very friendly but did tend to hover near by and watch every bite you took.
K. O.
Efficient, friendly service but the food bit was the best. Really good
E. M.
We ate here twice! Thank you for being so fast
W. L.
I forgot how big the portions were when you go large. If you get a large ramen or katsu curry expect a massive plate. Almost like a double portion. Everything was generally good from what we ordered. But there were a few poor dishes mixed in. Tuna sashimi was un edible due to the large sinew that ran through all 3 slices. (Poor cut) the yakitori sticks were burnt to black on outside and dry and chewy inside and finally the seaweed salad, which tasted off. Those 3 dishes we had to leave. When we mentioned this they seemed to shrug it off. I dont expect authentic Japanese food here but i do expect a decent standard from the eat tokyo chain. This is quantity over quality on this ocasion.
T. C.
everytime i am in London, i will go to this restaurant, quick service ,consistent food quality, big portion with reasonable price !The Bento is my favourite choice
D. W.
Super tasty food and an honest price. The staff are lovely too, please be nice. Minimum card payment is £10
G. S.
Very good place for sushi and other cooked Japanese food.
D. C.
Always great service, and the food is terrific. One of my favourite places
S. A.
Nice and delicious food! Service was great.
O. D.
Food here deserves higher price. Always my favourite Japanese restaurant in London.
L. B. H.
The restaurant is very strict on following covid guidelines and felt safe eating in.
The food is delicious as usual and staff are extremely friendly.
A. s. S.
Best Japanese restaurant with budgets. You could Enjoy Bento for 8 pounds ( fish rice soup salad ) The food is real Japanese taste compare other Japanese restaurants ,service is so so I would give 5 star if they provide better service.
E. S.
Great! Lovely food great staff and a fast service. My first ever Benton box 😃
S. V.
A lovely small Japanese restaurant with a very authentic touch! Delicious food and if you sit at the bar you can see the two chefs preparing the food from the fresh ingredients!
v. s.
Authentic Japanese restaurant. The tea and the miso soup could have been better quality. The bentos were quite good and very large. Waiting people handling was not done very efficiently.
M. C.
Delicious food, fresh and quickly prepared. Service not. So good due to the inexperience of new staff.
T. T.
Lovely Japanese food and one of my go-to branches in the area for when I have the cravings! I have personally found this Hammersmith one to be a bit better in terms of customer service and friendliness compared to its counterparts I've visited in Central.
J. K.
I felt like I really ate Japan after eating here! awesome food.
V. D.
Taste wise it was ok, but very little portions for the price. It didn't even come with sticks as other shushi shops give you and there were just a few drops of sauce for the gyozas. Next time I am ordering from more generous places.
E. T.
The food was amazing definitely I will back the katsu curry regular size is ruge
a. l.
I enjoy going here, the food is very good all the time, especially their ramen, prices are ok too, service is good too, definitely worth going
V. W.
If there was 10 stars they would get 10 from me. Absolutely fantastic food, impressive menu & service. Best sushi & Japanese I had in London. Can't wait to try out more from their menu.
I.
This place offers a large variety of authentic Japanese food. The taste wise is good. But there were a few times when we ordered the takeaway, the chicken from the bento box was a bit too salty.
B. L.
Eat Tokyo used to be one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London - great value and good quality.
However, with my recent purchases (take-away), the quality of sushi has gone down. Ordered o-toro nigiri and the tuna meat was brown! And the portion size has definitely decreased.
Not sure if I want to order from them anymore.
Truly disappointed.
N. Z.
For a long time I was searching for some good authentic Japanese cuisine..last week I was recommended to try Eat Tokyo, so I went, the food is tasting very authentic, fresh, light and the prices are acceptable. The stuff was very pleasant and dressed in traditional kimono:)..very good experience, I'll be definitely coming back.
M. F.
Great value for money! The food is great and the portions generous. The staff is friendly and super efficient, me and my husband love the place
A. T.
Their katsudon is consistently good. Service is above average for an Asian restaurant.
e. B.
Food is always good and service is friendly and attentive. Good selection of rolls, good quality fish and my favourite Yakitori. First place we have visited after lockdown and it looks like they have made all efforts to comply with governement regulation.we went on lunch time and there were in total three tables with customers (including us). My kids love sushi and Japanese food and I find this place to be good for children, better now that it is less busy
K. L.
Very prompt and quick service. Portions are really generous and their bento deals are great! Excellent service. Their selection of sushi is to die for. There are many very authentic japanese dishes to choose from, from their massive booklet of a menu. 10/10 favorite spot in Hammersmith.
s. i.
Food is great, fresh and authentic.
Good service
E. B.
Delicious, fresh, great service. Highly recommended
D. B.
Delicious food, portion sizes are generous and filling. Service was very quick and food was with us in 10 mins max!
C. S.
Huge menu and a good selection of sashimi options. There’s a lot of bento options for lunch too. The service is friendly and helpful and the sushi/sashimi I had was tasty. Decent prices. It’s a pretty tight and narrow spot so I think it’s best suited for smaller groups. Can’t wait to be able to sit in for a meal again ✌🏼
A. K.
Recently visited for takeaway after the latest easing of lockdown. They opened at 5:15 pm but got busy soon so bear that in mind. The food was decent and came in a nice compact package with cutlery that proved handy for a bento picnic. While it's not the best Japanese restaurant in town, certainly it’s an easy place worth the money.
P. G.
Eat Tokyo never disappoints. Authentic Japanese, really good value, my favourite in Hammersmith.
J. M.
One of my favourite establishments, I've tasted nearly everything on the menu and I've never been let down. Love this restaurant
S.
The miso soup was delicious and the matcha green tea was nice however the tuna roll was very disappointing. It didn't taste fresh (had a smell to it). Our chicken curry was generous in portion but about a 6/10. Dishes were collected of our table as we finished, with the staff reaching over our food to get to the dishes without telling us.
It was very busy so maybe we were just unlucky but have had much better experience at other Japanese restaurants.
d. i.
Food is homey, good size portions and you can choose from cheap bento boxes to more sophisticated sashimi cuts. I'm a regular customer - in general but particularly from the Hammersmith branch and can't recommend enough.
More points for their careful Covid policy, feels safe to be there.
R. W.
Food is lovely but staff very dry!
G. I.
Very good sushi. Top quality food and all fresh! High reccomended! And important thing very cheap!
P. B.
Good food. Reasonable prices. Great atmosphere. Recommend!
T. A.
Great food, friendly staff and cozy place and Tina provided us with the best service ever!!! We will be visiting again soon 👌🏼
J. M.
Good Japanese restaurant. I love the dishes proposed. It's not just sushi, you can find a lot of good cooked dishes. The quality is amazing and the staff is always smiley and nice. I strongly recommend it.
S. C.
This is a cosy but atmospheric place.
The food is great with a brilliant variety.
Staff are very friendly.
Prices at first glance may seem significant but when considering the premium on Sushi, it feels well priced.
I’ve been many times to this branch and it’s difficult to find criticism.
V. S.
Possibly one of the most authentic Japanese cuisine in London. Plus it's one of the most affordable ones as well. Which means it gets really busy around peak times. Seating might be a bit uncomfortable as they try to fit in as many table as possible so you might feel a bit lack of privacy. I do recommend to get sushi rolls and bento box sets are very big at very good prices.
A. G.
Often crowded, which makes the staff seem a bit overwhelmed and they might lack politeness from time to time... But definitely worth it!
A. L.
My go to Japanese restaurant in London. The staff in the Hammersmith branch are really friendly and they love to make you laugh. The quality and price of the food is good especially for London standards.
s. c.
One of the best sushi restaurant around, I will come back 100%
R. S.
Great authentic Japanese food for a reasonable price
T.
A smaller location of a chain of Japanese restaurant just a 10min walk from Hammersmith station. A very large menu with a good selection options, for its location you are getting reasonably authentic Japanese food. Eat Tokyo branches can vary a bit in their quality, this location however is quite convenient if you don't want to travel all the way into Central London. Sitting space is a bit cramped. Waiters are a bit blunt and on the side of being pretentious (I got told off on a non-busy weekday afternoon after being offered a table while waiting for my friend to arrive, only to be told after that a waiter said it could get busy and I should have waited for my friend outside first before getting a table. It was still the beginning of easing of COVID lockdown and I was their second table!)
L. K.
One of the best places to get fresh, tasty, properly done sushi. There is a huge popularity to this branch with a lot of people visiting it regularly - it means the fish is always first class fresh. Portions are good size. Menu is a big book with astonishing variety of dishes. Try Tokyo Dragon Roll and Japanese Beer on tap. If you want something fancy, check out big list of different sake.
A. d. T.
Some of the finest sushi and sashimi in London at a reasonable price.
C. M.
Great authentic Japanese food, price-quality one of the best, service friendly. Recommended to visit
R. W.
Nice good and good services
D. M.
I usually visit at lunchtime, which tends to be the busiest times but can always get a table. There is a large selection of dishes; from sushi to cooked dishes and no matter what I've chosen, it's always delicious and very reasonably priced. The only downside is you can wait a very long time to pay your bill!

The food in this Japanese restaurant is utterly amazing.
Great service, great food.
Because of the quality of the food, it's amazingly busy here.
Best see if you can reserve a table at rush hours. Have lunch here, or get take away.
R. L.
For what you get it's a bit overpriced. I really have no idea why there are always queues out the door here. Great interior and design, food quality is okay. If you want good food at good prices though head down to Turnham Green where the sushi houses are much better. Save your money because it's not that great and the portion prices are disappointingly small.

Great Japanese food and lovely customer service
K. D.
Good portion sizes and well cooked food. You can tell that everything is fresh. I tried the prawn tempura sushi, which was delicious and crunchy. The Guy-Don is also a winner. The place is very popular, so a good idea is to come early or book a table.
J. C. (.
Huge portions, made super quick!
C. F. T.
Got to try dragon roll if you like eel
T. J.
Have been here many times for the lunchtime bento boxes. Very compact and can get very busy, so advise booking for weekend visits. Good selection of Japanese dishes, including very good sushi and the like. A favourite is the Tori kara bento which is a very satisfying meal for £8.50. Food is very well prepared and is great value in my opinion. Recommended!
J. Y.
My friend lives in Hammersmith and suggested to have dinner at this place. The food is authentic and we even saw some Japanese there. We love the food, especially the mussels, the sushi and Katsudon Japanese Pork Cutlet and egg. The soup of the mussels was so tasty. The portion is big, but price not expensive. As the restaurant is always very busy, it’s a bit noisy but acceptable and guests have to be patient about service. Booking in advance is also recommended. Though very busy, the staff were still friendly and tried to serve well as far as they could.
D. C.
One of my favourite Japanese restaurant, the food is authentically Japanese with a reasonable price, especially the early bird dinner special before 7pm. The portion size is very good, for example, the chicken katsu curry, I couldn't even finish the rice! For me, a very nice place to dine!
C. I. G.
Great Sashimi. Just ok makis.
Too extensive menu.
K.
Always my go-to place for Japanese food. It never disappoints. Food is delicious, service is efficient, comfortable atmosphere. Definitely recommend coming here.
S. N.
Great sushi at a reasonable price
F. J.
Genuine Japanese experience. Quick service and the food is usually top notch. Two dishes you shouldn't miss are the katsu curry and aubergine with miso.
A. S.
Book ahead where possible, even half an hour ahead would help the staff.
Lovely welcoming staff, despite how packed the store was.
Menu was varied, cheap and simple with pictures.
Service was attentive and fast, drinks and food coming all very quickly.
Food was AMAZING, the best sushi in London.
Overall, excellent experience. Would reccomend getting one of their dragon rolls, award winning, next level sushi. Better and cheaper than anything on the highstreet.
R. F.
I ate here all the time when I was working in the area and can definitely recommend it. The service is good and prompt, the food delicious—I particularly enjoyed their vegetarian Bento box, which was filling and contained the best tempura I have enjoyed. Whether eating in or taking away, I would recommend trying them out.

Good price and plentiful food
M. G.
One of the best Japanese restaurants I've ever visited. Good food, decent prices. It can get a bit busy during lunch time and you may have to wait but frankly, it's worth it.
J. M.
Fantastic service, great sushi, and overall impressive value for money
G. J.
Sometimes restaurants try to hard and forget about the main attraction: the food. This restaurant is the opposite. All they care about is ensuring the food comes out perfect. Great job to the hard working staff.
s. k.
A lovely small Japanese restaurant! The staff are so lovely and friendly and the service is very efficient and speedy. There is a great extensive menu with a lot of variety of different sushi but not only that but other delicious dishes like bento, donburi and some yummy soups. The food is authentic and I recommend the Tokyo Dragon roll - always great! Atmosphere is bustling and busy and I recommend visting for amazing Japanese food!
A. D.
This has proper authentic food. The menu is very large and you will find nearly everything you want in a Japanese place. The portions are huge so do not over order. I had the katsu currry which was large enough to fill me up by itself. I then had a tuna sushi selection and an asparagus starter. The lunch time deals are great value. You get high quality food but don't expect it to be cheap. Probably around 20 head for dinner. The place is very large and quite loud due to all the people. It's not a great place for a date or romantic meal but if you like Japanese food it's the best place in Hammersmith
M. D.
Eat Tokyo is a small, friendly restaurant on the high street. It's popular and gets busy, so you might need to book if you're planning to go on Friday or Saturday evening. The waiters are friendly and polite.
The menu is purely Japanese food - no "asian fusion". The portions are generous, and the food tasty. Expect to pay around £10 per dish. Bento boxes are also popular.
Would definitely recommend.
l. g.
Wonderful service and great food
B. P.
Great place to eat Japanese food. Large selection of dishes, sushi, sashimi, bento boxes and lot of a'la carte dishes. You can see chefs preparing your food for you. Ingredients are very fresh and high quality. Also large selection of sake to accompany your meal. Note that this restaurant is not very big so it is often crowded and there might be a bit of a queue. Definitely worth the wait though.
E. H.
Above average quality at some of the most affordable prices for sushi in London. A large menu is normally a worry, we've all long been told those places offering just a few dishes offer better quality - however here, that is not the case. The extensive menu provides some of the more niche Japanese dishes you wouldn't normally find outside of Japan and particularly in a small chain. If you want to break away from the bore of just tuna and salmon sashimi, try eat tokyo and some more of the "strange" dishes you haven't seen before - I strongly recommend the steamed whelks at just approx £3 a dish. The best thing about eat tokyo is a lot of these different dishes are incredibly cheap! Sometimes less than a can of soft drink at another restaurant. The more "go to" dishes such as Katsu curry and the likes are also amazing here, with such a variety of Katsu types at various sizes every preference is covered. Strongly recommend!
S. B.
The restaurant offers great sushi at a fair price. Menu comes with all the standard stuff, plus a few homemade extras. Can get quite busy in the evenings due to its popularity, so book in advance wherever possible.
S. Y. P.
It is the best value for money japanese restaurant I have ever come across. We are usuals since the day it opened its doors to public, and so far we have never left disappointed (we go twice a week) Huge portions served timely in a fairly authentic japanese environment. Sushi is very good but there is no need to limit yourself to it, everything is very nice and the menu is very extensive. It is usually full so it is recommendable to book a table in advance. They do take away.
Y. B.
The food is simple awesome
This is the best sushi in London
and their salmon and chicken bento box 🍱 is spot on.
D. N.
Very nice and cheep japanese! Katsu karry was enormous and so yummy! The hammersmith roll sushi was also incredible. The chicken teriyaki was decent to good.. The place inside is cosy and nice I would say. Service is also quick! The only thing I can say is about their menu which is a million pages and its difficult to see clearly the sections...
C. W.
Excellent sushi and a vast menu. The Katsu curry was a disappointment though.
C. H. G.
Food quality has decreased over last years, it's really noticeable and I don't know why, was one of the best Japanese restaurant in London.
Y. M.
I'm fussy about Japanese food as one Japanese! I have been disappointed with several Japanese restaurants (pretended as Japanese restaurant) in London, sometime strange taste or overpricing. But "eat tokyo" offer true Japanese food with reasonable price. I tried various menu, all foods are perfect, very tasty. you can see Japanese chefs are working at kitchen counter. I thank them and respect them to generalize TRUE Japanese tasty food in abroad.
G. T.
Brilliant sushi!
Super friendly staff, always great service!
Very busy if you want to eat in the restaurant - come early or book a table.
The quality is always solid and they are not expensive.
M. H.
Great sushi for an very reasonable price! Went with a friend and both had a substantial meal with a bottle of wine and it cost us around £10 each! Brilliant speedy service even though it was packed! You know it's good when the locals go 😄
C. N.
Excellent dinner. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful; I had a sashimi bento with rice (that had a wonderfully generous heaping of the large ikura roe on top), lettuce leaves, pickled daikon slices, tamago slices, as well as sashimi tuna, salmon and white fish, crabstick, octopus, and sea urchin. I can't remember the last time I've seen the latter offered in a bento, so it was a pleasant (and tasty) surprise. The miso soup was very good and nicely balanced, and the green tea was a good quality one. A plate of perfectly cooked squid leg tempura, a large bento (which I didn't manage to finish) and a green tea came to a very reasonable £25 including 12.5% tip (included on the bill). As I was a solo diner I got a seat at the breakfast bar which runs along the fish counter/chef's kitchen - unlike many places, the seats were supportive and the table wide enough. The service was friendly, polite and unobtrusive; the food delivery was fast, and the restaurant was clean and charmingly decorated. Great find, and I will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended.
i. m.
I eat here every week almost. It’s busy and bustling like I imagine a Tokyo restaurant might be. It’s a great ambience and of course the food is excellent, as are the cold beers and the saki. Staff are polite, attentive.
The lunch special is a steal at a fiver, Katsura don and miso soup. The sushi is delicious. The chef is an award winner for his sushi creations and you can watch the chefs prepare it. Personally I go for either the eel dishes (it isn’t English eels, they bring them in from Japan so they’re frozen but still delicious) or the Kitsu don, chicken rice and veg that I liberally lace with hot spice and soya sauce.
You can also order it to takeaway. I recommend calling in advance by about 15 minutes to place your takeaway order if you’re doing lunch.
N. H.
Food was prompt, service was great. Typical High level Japanese hospitality. The waitresses wear traditional robes which is nice.
Prices are reasonable. Miso soup was lovely and the Bento Box had good variety.
I did feel one slice of sashimi wasn't fresh from today as the fish shouldn't have a fish fragrance but the texture was fine. It may have just been the storage space or I may just be picky.
The tempura was tasty but thr sweet potato one was still quite hard.
The wasabi is quite light and the ginger slices were not very gingery.
Lots of positives and a few not so greats.
D. H.
I've been to Japan 7 times, and I know authentic Japanese food when I see/taste it.
Eat Tokyo is a treasure for us Londoners, truly authentic, tasty Japanese food and at a price that doesn't break the bank.
I dare anyone to try the large katsu curry, it's a beast and you won't believe how affordable it is!
There's also a sushi bar, with an award winning sushi dish known as the Hyper Roll!
K. T.
One of my favourite chains in London. The food is always good and the staff are always friend. You can book for this branch and I highly recommend it!
D. G.
In one word - Wow!!! Authentic Japanese Bento House with excellent staff and service. A real hidden gem! An enthusiastic welcome awaits with classic Japanese cuisine at its best, freshly prepared and so very tasty. Sit at the bar, enjoy a glass of plum wine and order up the Tokyo Dragon Roll. Sublime
C. B.
Hands down the BEST affordable Japanese restaurant in London. I have been coming here at least once a month for about 4 years now, and I have never been disappointed. Being a lover of Japanese food, and having visited Japan twice, the food at Eat Tokyo is simply delightful. With professional sushi chefs creating artful masterpieces at the bar, the prices you pay do not reflect on the food - everything is delicious. I usually have the chicken teriyaki bento box with a prawn tempura roll, and they have never disappointed. The only downside is that I wish they did delivery! A real gem.
R. R.
I go there all the time in various branches. The food are fresh and very authentic. I might even go there today after reviewing this. It's my local and the staff always greet me with a smile.
J. L.
I love Eat Tokyo, I have been to the Leicester square branch and the King St branch several times, can't fault this place when you want some reliable good value Japanese food.
They also won the sushi competition at Hyper Japan with their Hyper roll which is rather delectable!
The service can be a bit iffy at times, but the sushi chef at the king st branch is so friendly, he will help serve you if you are sitting at the sushi counter!
When I run out of ideas for new places to go, I will always go back to Eat Tokyo.
R. M.
Great restaurant, good food, authentic Japanese dishes. Gets very busy, go early or book a table otherwise you'll be waiting between 30 to 40 mins
R. M.
Very good sushi but very crowded.
P. M.
Busy but delightful chain Japanese restaurant. The sushi and sashimi are of decent portions and well presented. Book in advance to avoid the wait
N. S. T.
The food here is great, one of our favourite Japanese restaurants. They have a wide selection of both sushi and hot dishes. A bit expensive but about the same as other Japanese restaurants.
I. I.
The food is just delicious, The staff were extremely friendly and polite, I have been going to this restaurant for the past three years or so and I have always been satisfied with the service as well as the food.
Highly recommended
K. D.
Reasonably priced and very tasty food. Full of flavour.
B. B.
good food, the fusion dishes are better than the Japanese ones, below average services though, I have to tell waitresses 3 times to get a cup of water when it's busy
K. M.
Really great tasting food, huge menu that I would have to come back multiple times to even make a dent in, alot of main meals like udon, soba or katsu curry for people who don't like sushi or the idea of raw fish and they also have quite a few ingredients that you wouldn't see in smaller sushi restaurants if your feeling adventurous such as uni (sea urchin) and unagi (bbq eel.)
The only negative thing I have to say is the menu looks like it has been printed in the office and put into a ring binder maybe because of lockdown, but seriously don't let that hinder your experience the food is well worth the visit!
C.
Best sushi of London.Although the decoration is nothing special, If I just focus in the quality of food, is a great restaurant. The sushi and sashimi selection is really good, they have many chefs specialised in Japanish food. COMPLETELY RECOMMENDED for sushi lovers
P. D.
This is one of our favourite places for Japanese food. Sushi is good, especially the prawn tempura. We usually get bento boxes because you get tofu, miso, salad and a main course. Sake makes a great accompaniment of course... And the prices are very reasonable.
S. B.
Fabulous, The place was busy and i think it probably always is and you can see why. as there was 2 of us we got a table straight away though might worth booking ahead, we got a pot of green tea which went down well. then I ordered a sushi sashimi set which was perfect sushi cut well presented beautifully in a wooden box containing a number of different fish. along side this I had the aubergine in miso and wow did this pack a punch and a nice portion giving half aubergine. my friend had a salmon teriyaki bento box with miso soup, they thoroughly enjoyed. To finish of this spectacular meal i convinced my friend you need to have dessert we had moshi green tea and mango, and they made it as if in Japan. I really wanted to have more but alas it was closing time.
I will come here again and again, it was a nice experience, and i did love the decor of this place with the 3d wood effect, the staff were nice and attentive.
E. N.
Average Japanese food. A lot of combination of Bento.
A. M.
Very good authentic Japanese food and nice service.
Usually full, so make sure to reserve a table or go early!
H. G.
The food was excellent and arrived promptly. However our initial greeting when waiting to be seated was very frosty indeed and we would have turned away if it wasn't for the kids being hungry.
K. D.
Food is amazing, price is good but service could be better.
I come here at least once a week and recommend if you are looking for well priced tasty Japanese food. I recommend oyako jyu with beer.
K. Z.
We've been here for quite a few times because it's near our place and the sushi is just ok. But the waitresses has always been ridiculously slow and careless with a unwilling-to-serve face such that many times I almost reject to pay service charge. Won't come here again.
V. V.
Incredible quality food. Fresh and delicious. Food served quick even on very busy days. Prices that beat other Japanese places in the area. Amazing
C. Q.
Light, well organised, unpretentious dining space. Staff were on it and service was quick. Food was yummy and tofu selection enough for a vegan to have choices.
B. B.
Not the tastiest Japanese food in Hammersmith. Lacks quite a bit of flavor. Will do in a pinch. Waitresses needlessly aggressive and will rush you in/out.
K. C.
Wonderful food and gr8 atmosphere xx
P. W.
It is great food and well priced. The chicken katsu is a personal favourite. Main issue is the staff, they tend to be quite abrupt
F. M.
Quite simply, the best sushi restaurant in London (easily better than the fancy places like Roka). The biggest testament to this is that a lot of the customers there, at any given time, are Japenese. All the staff are Japanese also.
For me, the stand outs are the toro, tataki and the fatty tuna. In saying that, every dish I had (I think I ordered 11) was amazing. Top quality across the board.
N.
Very fresh food and very very warm staff! :))
M. L.
Mussels were fat and juicy, tuna was tender and flavoursome. Steamed gyoza were great. Enjoyed the whole eating experience apart from proximity to the door on such a cold day. Go try the place.
S. C.
Eat Tokyos are a few restaurants around London, generally all pretty good (not a big fan of the Holborn or Notting Hill branches for staff, layout and menu) the Soho branch being the one we like most (sushi bento whohooo).
We were really pleased with the Hammersmith branch! Amazing sashimi boat, lovely staff and nice layout.
Only thing is, like every Eat Tokio...avoid peak time, queuing outside is sometimes not that fun 😉
R. I.
Amazing food, great price, clean restaurant.
L. C.
Staff were friendly and accommodating, sushi was good quality for reasonable price. If you want sushi/Japanese food without breaking the bank it's worth a try
S.
Absolutely fantastic food - so authentic! Recently came back from Japan and the food is just as good! Must try the miso aubergine and spicy tuna rolls - obviously with miso soup and sake! Kanpai :)
R. K.
My favourite restaurant in Hammersmith!!!!
P. P.
Lovely food and an amazing selection of dishes. As a vegetarian I find it quite hard in Japanese restaurants but had plenty of selections here. Great value!
C. E.
The food is good ! Very good prices ! Must try if you are around !
w. y. t.
Missing my Asian food. And this restaurant offer the nice Japanese food with good price. It’s good to have a hot meal in cold day.
S. A.
Large menu, delicious food, friendly staff. General atmosphere is average and it often gets really
busy but the service remains quick.

The best sushi restaurant I have ever been and I have been to many one in London. The customer service is outstanding, the food is amazing, the price is so fair xxx
P. A.

S. M.
My favourite place in London where eat an authentic Japanese food! Highly recommended
A. H.
Great selection of lunch specials! Unagi bento for a tenner!
N. L.
Excellent food, fresh & tasty. Authentic- & I have been to Tokyo! Lovely, friendly staff- thank you.
G. B.
Went with a friend on a Tuesday evening and it was extremely busy. The food was really nice and portion size nice and big. Bento 1 £12.00.
L. P.
Food is very nice. The bento portion is so huge. The price is reasonable compared to other Japanese restaurant is quite expensive. Definitely will come back again
G. S.
Food is good and tasty but the place is small so queue is pretty long. We were sitting next to the door and It was really cold. Stuff was nice
G. S.
Extremely complex menu. Great food
L. o.
Always fresh and tasty dishes at a very reasonable price. Great staff, always helpful and ready to advise.
I. W.
Delicious japanese dishes with reasonable prices
S. M.
Love Eat Tokyo. Try and finish the large katsu curry if you dare.
Other items I'd recommend:
- Any bento box is good value
- White wine muscles are yummy
- Tempura prawn roll
- The jyu meals are very filling
I. D.
Food is superb no complaints but the service crew especially the lady who got no name in her uniform was so rude and the way she treat us a customer is badly . Want to get her name but they said they are not giving names . Will not comeback to Hammersmith branch as Nothing Hill is the best place to go . Sorry we’re normally not complaining but that lady who’s wearing glass is no manner .
R. T.
Standards have dropped over the years - place is packed as they've tried to fit
more tables in despite a clearly overstretched staff. Chicken in oyakodon was haphazardly cut instead of using sogigiri which made this difficult to eat.
S. C.
Very nice restaurant. The food is great! It's always full so you will need to book in advance.
T. W.
Lovely sushi and bento. Comparing to its other branches this place is relatively quiet and never had problem finding a seat. Service is pretty good too.
B. W.
Always busy = Always amazing! been going to this restaurant for over a year and never had a bad meal/experience. Could not recommend this place enough!
M. C.
I first discovered Eat Tokio when they were a small restaurant with a long queue in Soho. It's opened several restaurants there, all with great sushi and at very good prices and seven years later I continue to love it.
A. B.
Get the lunchtime special, cant go wrong
L. P.
Authentic Japanese indeed!
I love having ramen and sushi in here. Prices are ridiculously low for what you're given. You won't regret.
K. W.
Super amazing sushi, consistently high quality over years, we always love to come back in this particular Eat Tokyo branch, also because of friendly and efficient staff.
T. K.
Always busy. Nice food will go back
G. B.
Tempura vegetables bento box for £8.50, tasted fresh and delicious. Quick and unfussy service, great value authentic Japanese food.
J. S.
Huge selection of Sushi, Bento and don dishes, almost too many in fact as it takes a long time to chose. Reasonable prices and bug portions is always a good thing.
M. A.
Tasty food, service is always good. Our usual famiky sushi place
T. B.
Pleasant enough. Not as nice as some other sushi places I've had the pleasure of going to recently, but food tasty, and service prompt.
R. K. W.
AMAZING! Best sushi and reasonable. Lovely customer service. Love coming here and strongly recommend.
J. T.
One of the greatest places to eat I highly enjoyed the food here but the initial wait to be seated was very long and the restaurant is very small needs and expansion as I deserves it
J. L.
I ordered beef bowl and tofu- frankly you shall avoid these items and try something else! Nice Asahi draft beer though.
T. C.
Great variety of delicious Japanese food! Not only Sushi, but also other great dishes served in Bento Boxes or Bowls.
L. V.
Tasty food and great for a "quick" meal that is also tasty. The place is small and very popular so booking is recommended.
J. O.
Is good, I rate Eat Tokyo highly.
Portion sizes large by London standards, be careful not to order too much.
J. I.
Decent, cheap sushi. Great value bentos and katsu curry. Service sometimes patchy, but only because it's always so busy!
V. J.
The food and service is ok. Very authentic but not that memorable. Good price/value proposition. Try to book ahead at night!
J. F.
Great food and service!
k. t.
My favourite place for fresh sushi.
Great quality at great price!

If you love sushi you won't be disappointed (unlike most places)

The service is really poor. I’d rather go to a restaurant where I feel respected as a customer. It’s a shame because their food is good.
B. H.
Great for Sushi and authentic Japanese cuisine.
S. A.
Large menu, delicious food, friendly staff. General atmosphere is average and it often gets really
busy but the service remains quick.
M. L.
Mussels were fat and juicy, tuna was tender and flavoursome. Steamed gyoza were great. Enjoyed the whole eating experience apart from proximity to the door on such a cold day. Go try the place.
M. T.
The food never disappoints. Brilliant price for the quality. But they messed up my reservation and blamed it on me, which was disappointing.
C. L.
Food is very tasty and very affordable but staffs are inpatient maybe because the place is too busy and staffs are working a lot so not happy at all to see any customer through the door.
I. D. C.
The food is good and at a fair price. Though the service is beyond poor. The manager was very abrupt and unprofessional. This was our fifth and last visit.
G. N.
Amazing sushi, excellent service although the Hammersmith branch didn’t have a high chair which I found very unusual
J. J.
Tasteful Japanese dishes and excellent services. Considered lucky to get a table for our group.
C. B.
We went as a large group and there was still too much choice 😁 Decent food at reasonable prices
Y. W.

Really great, authentic Japanese food. Book in advance it's very busy

The service is really poor. I’d rather go to a restaurant where I feel respected as a customer. It’s a shame because their food is good.
E. C.
Nice and fresh food but it's too expensive
G. W.
Love this place. I usually have a bento box. Speedy order and serving. Ideal for a pre theatre meal.

I visited Japan earlier this year, and this place really does Japanese food justice- really authentic and fresh
A. E.
Lovely food and amazing food
P. C.
Finally, a Japanese restaurant with great food, low(ish) prices and generous portions.
J. C.
A good alternative to the nearby Wasabi if you fancy a sit-down in a less canteen-like environment, but not worth taking a detour if you don't live/work nearby.
D. C.
Good food and good service. Restaurant's design is not great, menu are visually horrible.
A. V.
Great safety measures, good food, a bit pricey.
