Reviews of Est. India
B. C.
One of the best Indian restaurants my boyfriend and I have ever eaten at. The food was so flavoursome, the meat juicy and the naan was the perfect balance between crispy and doughy! I cannot stop thinking about the onion bhaji. The staff were really lovely to us also. Could not recommend enough, can't wait to go back!
A. &. S. D.
Pretty Indian but the service left a lot to be desired. Even though less than half-full we had to regularly badger the staff to get orders taken etc. and had to ask for water three times before we got any. The meat in one of our meat dishes had more than a hint of being off too.
A. M.
To start with, the member of staff who served our table was fantastic. He was patient and very helpful with selecting dishes and ensuring we didnt over order which is the case most times. He tended our table through the night to ensure we had our drinks topped up and resupplied us with poppadoms when we ran out 😊.
The food was thoroughly enjoyable and we certainly will be revisiting this restaurant again.
The location of this restaurant is a little off the beaten path but it was an absolute unexpeced find. We had started the evening in Borough market and gradually made our way down to flat iron square. On a recommendation we were advised to walk through the market area where on the other side we would find Est. India.
D. W.
Really nice food , good fast friendly service and good pricing for London , would go again

Amazing food.
Me and my friend went to this restaurant as we were in crave to have some Indian food. Husan was there to help us out what to order and which dish is their specialty and what to try. We loved all the dishes he recommended to us. We had Pav bhaji, kadia panned with roti and keema roti as well. Also had chats which was so amazing and delicious. Thank you so much for making our evening beautiful and with lovely dishes to try on. A huge thank you to Husan for all the recommendations and service.
L. C.
Excellent curry and services 👍👍Delicious and well presented food. Amazing starters, naans were scrumptious, biryani was average but lovely staff and good ambiance.🍛
V. G.
Lovely place to enjoy Indian meal with friends and family, very good starters but some preparations fell short of Indian taste. Overall, will still recommend this place to others.
A. E.
Nice curry, the bhutani lamb is gorgeous. There is a vast selection of curries and grills, wait staff is friendly.
A. W. (.
Amazing food, order butter chicken, chicken korma and tikka masala. All dishes were top notch. Would come back for more
T. I.
Lamb curry was pretty nice, not as chilli as I would have liked. Garlic naan bread and poppadoms were great. Also got a meat samosa which was mediocre.
Overall, really nice. Word of warning, their meals are very filling so be cautious of ordering too many sides (i.e. samosa, garlic bread etc)

Update March 2019
Had the Lamb again. I gotta say. It’s the best Indian lamb I have ever had - worldwide!
Amazing food! Great spices and amazing flavor! I had the lamb and spinach and veggie samosas. The lamb melted in my mouth!
F. H.
Delicious and well presented food. Amazing starters, naans were scrumptious, biryani was average but lovely staff and good ambiance
W. M.
Good menu selection to choose from. Food delivered piping hot after a while having been freshly prepared. The decor and tables could be improved somewhat!
S.
Absolutely the best authentic Indian in London and far beyond. I have been eating here weekly for over a year - and to be honest I wouldn’t eat anywhere else for good Indian food
I. B.
I came here with my Mum and Dad for a dinner.
We ordered the Chaat, and Paneer for starters. The paneer seemed undercooked and floppy. Not the best paneer I’ve had.
We then ordered a dosa each. Sadly, these were a bit too much on floppy side also. A true dosa should be crispy. The sambar that’s meant to come with a dosa was also replaced with dahl.
If you want an authentic dosa, Est. India isn’t the place for it...
A positive about this particular experience was the nice waiter who chatted to us at the end (Ang). Very friendly and memorable.

This restaurant is excellent. The decor is nice, the staff are friendly, and most importantly, the food is extremely good. I work in London Bridge, and I think this is the best Indian in the area.
Having been on a few occasions, I can say that it is consistently good. If you're feeling adventurous, ask the manager to order for you, we did are were not disappointed.
A. G.
Honestly was expecting better food after reading the reviews, I've had better (and cheaper) Indian food in London. Nice food presentation, good service and ok atmosphere.
J. D.
Decent indian eatery. Bit spendy.
Returned again. Food was still at the same high quality, and the staff remain professional. The atmosphere is cozy, yet open. Lighting is lowered, and the mood is relaxed yet pleasant. Great spot for small groups [3-7], and the meals are filling. The flavours come off nicely- no stinting on prep.
Good vibes here.
K. K.
We are vegetarians and had ordered the paneer and tandoor roti. The food was good. The hotel looks to have more take away customers as we were the only people who were dining in at the hotel. But the ambiance is good and you can have a good time here without disturbance.
A. P.
Atmosphere was nice, food was nice, it was hard to get hold of any of the waiting staff due to the layout of the restaurant
J. S.
A good selection of dishes from across the subcontinent, including a couple of Dosas, some Mumbai Street food, and some excellent northern Indian dishes. Well spiced.
J. T.
Love this place, great food and friendly people, definitely comin again
I. f.
Food, exclusive service and wide space was really remarkable especially when visiting with friends and family. Thanks and visit again soon.
A. B.
Good portions. Menu is not the same as the website however so I had to settle for a standard thing.
Good service but just a shame they didn't sort out their menus.
J. S.
Tasty food, good portions and decent prices! Good option for London Bridge/Borough/ Southwark area
A. B.
Lovely food, good spice and decent portions. Super friendly staff who were quick
D. C.
Always great food, really warm and friendly service and a good range of craft beers as well!
S. S.
Best Indian in South Bank. Dipping sauces & chutneys served with Pappadums are finger lickin' good. Try the garlic naan w/ achari kabobs that just melt in your mouth .
K. H.
Great for a spicey bite, food is a little hotter than most of the other local outlets. Clean polite friendly service.
U. A.
Had Kebabs, Railway lamb curry and naans. Nice food, extremely rude staff.
K. R.
The restaurant is good.. food was ok not the best indian food i had in London but overall good vibes
J. H.
Recently took my wife for a date here, she loved the idea of having a curry, I knew this was the perfect place as I had come here before with friends. The atmosphere was chilled and exotic. The food was very nice especially the chicken and lamb dishes although my wife said the chicken was lacking a little something. We both enjoyed our drinks. The only down side we have to say is that the waiters constantly walk up and down and watch you whilst you eat which feels a bit awkward at times. But all around nice location and service was on point.
P. G.
Great staff, excellent service and food was superb! Definitely recommend!
L.
Great food as always. Always my 'go to Indian restaurant' when staying on the South Bank 👍
M. T.
Love this restaurant so much, tried so many Indians in London and this one beats them all. The byriani is out of this world, me and my boyfriend love it!! Eaten here both in restaurant and on Deliveroo, and quality is always a 10/10, beautiful food!
L. E.
I'm a regular visitor, always great food and service, highly recommend to all!
H. F.
Loveliest indian food ive had in this country. Cannot recommend the chilli paneer starter enough . Lovely rich sauce . Chicken negrili also derp derp and rich flavours . Thanks was gorgeous food.
W. P.
Very good food (8), but service (-5)
J. M.
Been going here for a couple of years now. So happy to go back today after lockdown. Cutlery and plates freshly placed and steaming hot on our table just before our food arrived. Food as always was fantastic, service great as ever. Happy to support our local independent businesses. Please do the same.
A. C.
I appreciate you guys making palak paneer for me tonight! (Wasn’t on the menu) We just felt the food was quite bland. I understand restaurants in England need to cater to English people but it’s such a shame how hard it is to find authentic flavours these days. Staff was lovely though!
D. B.
We ate there 2 weeks ago. The place itself is somewhat hidden and modest. Though this helps you focus on the amazing food. It’s one of the best Indian places I know! Plus, the staff is very zealous. We will definitely come back!
S. V.
Wonderful Indian experience!
Would come back here again!
N. S.
I have visited this place several times over the past year, and I have to say it is one of the best mid-range Indian restaurants in London. Incredible meals bursting of flavour to please all your senses. The service is quick, although the staff is doing their job well, they are not always pleasant, which would be my only critique of the place.
Otherwise, I happily recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic, delicious, and affordable Indian delights

An enjoyable experience during covid. Warm heaters and a warm curry are a good combo.
L. C.
As soon as you walk in the food aroma will have your mouth watering. And the food itself will not disappoint. Everything was so flavorful and satisfying. The service was just as excellent as the food. It was a great meal to end our vacation with.
E.
Outstanding food and drink, nice atmosphere, but a little lax on the service. Right away we were impressed by the decor...great for an intimate dinner. Service was quick and friendly. I was impressed with the variety of gin & tonic cocktails and the selection of craft brews. The food was awesome. I’ve never had such tender lamb. The naan was fresh and the chicken tikka masala was on point. As we neared the end of the meal, our waitress went MIA We had to flag her down for a dessert menu, which we didn’t get because we wanted kheer and it wasn’t offered. However, all in all a very good restaurant and well worth visiting if you’re looking for good Indian food.
J. R. 1.
Best Indian food I've ever had. We visited London from the States for our honeymoon. We mistakenly found this place and decided to try. Chic and modern decor, Friendly staff and above all else, the most amazing food. Most of the food is spicy, so you might not like it if you don't like spicy food. Luckily we do. Definitely recommend this place.
K. B.
Always great food here. Graet service too. Slight issue with being given the wrong beer but not a big deal.
S. M.
Great decor, good food, shame about the prices. I live in Singapore so I’m used to great Indian food, and ate here with an Indian mate, so don’t believe the nonsense they tell you to justify their pricing with all that BS about quality ingredients —trust me this food is no better than any Indian cuisine you could eat in London, despite costing twice the price we usually pay (I eat our malt days) £1.75 for poppadoms! Most soaked will set you back upwards of £12. If that sounds acceptable to you then you’ll love it here.
M. M.
We had a pleasant meal here. Chicken was good quality. Some different and unusual dishes.
S. B.
The service was better than I have experienced in numerous London restaurants, and the curry far more flavoursome and reasonably priced than so many others.
If I ever comeback for an Indian meal, I will come here.
6 stars if possible. Jewel offered us unreal service.
J. Z.
Really tasty curries. We were a big group so had a set menu with a selection. The fish curry was excellent. Bit pricey though hence the lost star.
V. C.
Came here for lunch with three colleagues. We order off of the 'Tiffin' lunch menu. The food was excellent. The Naan bread was cooked to perfection, the curry flavoursome and we wolfed down the food. Very decent portions too.
F. S.
I had the Railway Lamb Curry, bhindi masala and pilau rice. One word sums it up, outstanding. The food, service and atmosphere are excellent. The attention given by the staff is genuine without being intrusive.
Returned for a meal with friends on 15/06/17. We chose a selection of vegetable dishes, a main vegetable dhosai, salmon tikka and a Peshawari naan. Wonderful flavours and more than enough for three. Great service and very good value for money.
18/10/17
A quick visit for dinner before returning home. It didn't disappoint. Pav bhaji to start followed by Aachari chicken tikka, bhindi masala, yellow dhal and two rotis. The drink of choice was BBNo Session IPA. As usual, excellent flavours and service.
16/05/18
Murgh Ki Champen, bhindi dopiaza and a baby aubergine dish with pilau rice. All top quality and thoroughly enjoyable. Beer of choice, Jack of Spades ruby ale.
27/05/19
Managed to squeeze in a lunchtime visit today.
I decided on a Chana Palak Tiffin. Rice, vegetable curry and chickpeas and spinach in individual Tiffin containers, with a garlic and coriander naan. Excellent flavours and good value for money.
D. J.
Great tasting food in a far above average typical Indian curry house. Price is ok for central London but starters overprice. Will come again for sure
D. C.
We have dined here twice recently and thoroughly enjoyed our meals on both occasions. I'd recommend the Bhatani (I hope that is the correct spelling!), which has a delicious sweet-spiced thick sauce made from caramelised onions. My other half loves the railway curry. Ps try the masala spiced wedges!
From a service perspective, all the staff were polite and friendly. They're more than happy to give information or menu suggestions. The food was ready quickly and perfect for a meal after work.
R. L.
We ordered a chicken and lamb dish and the sauce tasted a bit batch cooked Couldn't really tell the difference between the two dishes apart from the meat. Food not great But restaraunt itself is nice and atmospheric.
D. D.
Delicious and quality ingredients for a reasonable price. The service is really good, and I would say it's one of the best Indian restaurants I've tried South of the river.
h. h.
Better than many old style curry houses and well worth a visit. Not quite perfect, a bit too expensive and too much up-selling but overall good food and a bit lighter food which is nice. Good beer range.
N. C.
We went yesterday for a graduation lunch after the UCL graduation ceremony. The food is AMAZING. We are all 'foodies' and all of us thought the care taken was extraordinary - there was no oily food, only well spiced delicious creations. The baby chicken, Dhaal, salmon, and saag dishes were superb. Well worth a visit.
F. T. 9.
Some dishes were excellent. Two main dishes were bland (rare for me to say that for Indian food). Waiters were attentive hence the 3rd star. Shame, I wanted the food to be good. Also food came out too quick which isn't the way to do fine dining when I'm with the wife.
A. L.
I love this place, it's Indian Street Food style and is sister restaurant to Mango closer to Borough Market. The people here are friendly and treat you like a friend. The Dosas are lovely but best shared due to the size of it. I love the chutneys here, so different to all the others - I mean, pumpkin chutney is so unlike the usual mango! I also recommend the ice-cream lollies here, it's a must after every meal.
J. K.
This area has many good Indian restaurants, but Est India is a standout. We are regulars, usually here every week. The food is simply the best. Everything on the menu is great, but our favorites are the biryani, tandoori, and papri chaat. Prices are reasonable, and all the staff are super friendly and helpful - ask for Jewel and tell him we sent you. Very, very highly recommended.
Y. T.
An OK Indian restaurant.
Nothing was outstanding but nothing was terrible either.
What bothered me most is that some dishes were just not authentic (I've spent almost 2 years traveling on India). The papad (if you could call it that) is the most extreme example, but in general things tasted very tamed and modified compared to the real thing.
R. R.
Imagine a British curry house but with an interesting menu, hip decor, and a buzzy atmosphere. This is that place - it is to British curry houses what craft beer is to plain lagers, third wave flat whites are to Starbucks, or cool burger joints are to McDonald's.
Go there.
I. L.
Excellent Indian style meal. The atmosphere is cosy and slighly exotic but not in an overpowering way. The poppadum, chutney, korma dish, nans, railway lamb were to die for. I especially like that they can do most dishes with a veggie option. A little gem!
J. B.
Just visited for a second time and the food was just as wonderful. The focus is on a quality menu so don't expect a run of the mill list of bhuna this and biryani that. Each dish has been well thought out and perfectly crafted.
A. T.
To be honest the exterior is not that appealing however we decided not to judge the book by its cover. Went here with my two children and my husband Lovely staff - can’t say enough about them My children were finding some food a bit spicy and they gave them a few types of dips to help and then went and made a special sauce.
L. M.
Great little find while out with friends. Great authentic Indian food that I can without a doubt recommend to anyone who is in the area and wants a change from the standard Indian restaurant. The nann breads where a personally favourite
r. r.
Taste is good but quantity is very less
S. P.
Really tasty food and a handy location. Great place to meet with friends and share a few dishes. Not many good Indian restaurants in this part of London but this one is really very tasty and I'd definitely go back.
A. G.
The staff is courteous, the service is good-nothing exceptional, but attentive and quick. The food- some items are a hit and miss. The Dum Biriyani was good, but the Uthapam was just ok. The sambar with it was just daal and just 1 teaspoon of chutney. The naan was really good, but the jalfrezi was just tomatoes and chunk of chicken.
S. K.
Food was tasty but selection could have been larger. The time between courses was too long obvious that the resteraunt staff were trying to encourage us to drink more of their expensive beers.service was accurate and the staff were polite and cheerful.
M. O.
Delicious food and attentive wait staff. Open late on Sunday (unlike everywhere else). The food had great flavor - and even dishes without a spicy indicator had a bit of heat.
T. V.
Loved my Vindaloo curry- it was proper spicy and not fake spicy, haha!
Really nice craft beer too. Spot on!
L. P.
Lovely dinner here- had the paneer curry with a side and rice which was quite filling. The staff were all very attentive. Modern decor, nice ambiance.
G. B.
We were new to London and found this restaurant and it was like a treasure hunt for us..as we found the Indian food close to our hotel..
Thanks to staff..they are really excellent and courteous.. excellent hospitality.. most of the time we took take aways.. well packed and delicious..
Thanks Est India to make us feel at home
Cheers
S. V.
Very good food - Shibu Da's presence made all the difference
M. B.
Very good curry at a reasonable price. I have been looking for a good Indian in this area for a while as come here every few weeks with work. Very good selection of beer too. 100% will be back.
M. W.
Decent food at a reasonable price. Service a bit slow but it was busy. Friendly staff and overall we had a great evening.
J. M.
Had keema for my starter. It was excellent. The gulab Jamon and mango ice-cream were really good too. The only slight disappointment was the chicken tikka main as it was far too tomato-y for mee
A. S.
Absolutely delicious food with a very reasonable selection. Good for small groups (3-6 people). Atmosphere was very modern and comfortable. Perfect place for a long dinner with friends.
O. J.
Fantastic little Indian Restaurant in Borough. Wondered in on the off chance and found while their menu was a little less traditional the recommendations from the staff were great. Staff are friendly and very comfortable seating.
M. D.
Great curry. Off the beaten track do they have to compete with good food. Marketed as a street food type of place. Not your standard madras and Tim a masala menu. Railway curry is lovely!
M. S.
Wonderful curry and kind service. We were the only two in there and were (respectfully) doted upon. Do ask the servers for their recommendations, as they all seem delighted by the food as well.
Y. M.
Yummy reasonably priced indian food, good service and ambience. We had asked to make prawns spicy and they really made it perfect beyond our expectations.
M. A. C.
An okay restaurant, not great a choice, mostly basic curry, no Brown rice. Not sure why not, its a shame else I would go back. Food was hot and did not take too long to arrive.
J. P.
Amazing food, great friendly service with clean toilets. Would definitely recommend and go again. Food is good value for money.
L. P.
I may well be a gluttonous indophile, yet this food was delicious and stood apart from the typical go-to British Indian collection of dishes you often see and combination of flavours reminded me of dishes I had tasted in India.
G. F.
Good quality Indian food. I often get EST India from Deliveroo and it always hits the spot with decent sized portions. The saag bahji and kali mirch are delicious.
G. S.
The best Indian food we've ever had. This restaurant was one of our highlights of London! The Cheese Naan and Chicken Tikka Masala were delicious.
A. H.
This is a more modern style Indian restaurant. I think , the food is OK. Not bad, but nothing special. The waiters were good though.
m. s.
Pretty average curry house at slightly above average prices. However, they do a cute tiffin lunch option that is surprisingly good value for money.
M. W.
The Papdi Chatt was spectacular, the Railway Lamb rich, maybe a little too much gravy - but perfect to be soaked up by the aromatic garlic and coriander naan. A decent hoppy IPA to accompany - and reasonable prices too.
P. A. P.
I really liked the food, the place is really nice and very tidy. Two reasons i didn't give it five stars: food is tasty but very spicy (I ordered non spicy food and it was) and prices are a little bit too expensive, but I guess it goes with the location.
N. M.
One of the better Indian restaurants in the area. Dishes are reasonably priced. Generally have had good meals here. Good drinks selection too
C. H.
Best Indian restaurant in the area bar none. I've brought loads of friends here to show them my favourite curry house and they've all been impressed.
E. H. P.
Delivery via deliveroo. Very reliant on extra salt, sugar and oil...quite expensive for dishes with little meat and lots of sauce. Taste generally ok but could do with more fresh herbs, vegetables and less oil. Also, normally a couple of free poppadoms on a £40 order is pretty standard. Nothing from these guys.
...forgot to mention...desi slaw is a joke. Really basic shop bought coleslaw with four coriander leaves and three green chilli slices on top. Please take this off the menu guys...really not doing anyone any favours.
A.
Food was good, we got a table right away but the restaurant started to fill up around 8pm. The prices for food were really good, alcoholic beverages were quite expensive.
S. B.
Good food, lovely staff, great decor. Food arrived fairly quick and all round great flavours- nailed the baryani. Would go again..
P. R.
Lovely authentic Indian food. Beautiful flavours and well presented. Very friendly staff and the pale ale from Greenwich was a discovery!
L. R.
Really surprised at how lovely this restaurant was. Food was amazing and the staff friendly but professional. The price was reasonable too. Totally recommend!
D. D.
The masala dosa is cruncy, spicy and decent sized, and the mango lassi is scrumptious and so thick that the straw can stand in it vertically. Thanks for the tasty lunch!
M. K.
Very good experience! Excellent service and food was delicious. Would definitely recommend!
M. M.
Excellent, flavorful food in a comfortable, casually elegant atmosphere. The Nan is hot and buttery, the dishes various and well balanced. Worth a trip!
G. W.
Really good food that is a cut above your average Indian place down the road. Wonderful, fresh flavour combinations. We enjoyed the papri chatt and fish kari in particular.
G. A.
Great food - authentic cuisine. Fair prices for central London. Excellent service. Would return again without a doubt. Highly recommend.
M. B.
Great food and lovely staff! The food was served promptly and the restaurant had a cosy atmosphere. Would definitely go here again!
A. L.
Starter was really good, shawarma but mains not great. Maybe because we came in late but all the curries tasted the same! Big beers though
C. C.
Genuinely above-average 'Indian', well-cooked tandoor and noticeably fragrant use of spice to stand it apart frim average.
Location / tables outside on pavement good for people watching and summer dining.
Decor inside inviting, definately becomes one of the options worth visting in SE1
L. K.
I got take away lamb with spinach - the place looked cool and hip. And wow, the food was so good! Best indian I've had in London so far!
A. S.
Great food & service! We spilt our cocktail and they gave us a tasty new one, thank you!
k. b.
Good food, great flavours!
Service was good as well.
Lighting in the place is nice in some parts and horrible in others. Don't sit in the back.
T. K.
An enjoyable experience during covid. Warm heaters and a warm curry are a good combo.
A. S.
Very nice food in a clean environment. Not so friendly personel - a bit odd for this kind of places, but no major incidents. Definitely try the Pav Bhaji.
J. V.
We have a group of 10 visited the contemporary est India restaurant and have wonderful experience got it from there the food was excellent and the service too.. highly recommended
N. L.
The food was excellent, served promptly and a friendly service. The interior is tastefully decorated too, would certainly recommend.
v. m.
One of the few more versatile Indian style restaurants found within zone 1 of Central London. Reasonably priced and prompt service
G. M.
Delicious food. Contemporary restaurant. Nice ale selection. My second visit and food quality still great. Thank you 😁
R. G.
The restaurant is decent and friendly staff.. the food was good and we had a nice Indian spicy food. Pao Bhaji was star attraction !!
T. B.
Really tasty and great service. Jalfrezi was pretty spicy but also very tasty - not drowned by the spice - and a cheese Naan went with it really well.
A. S.
I’m away in an apartment hotel for the night! Fir the life of me I couldn’t work the oven! Uber eats it was. I ordered the chicken open naan and masala wedges! Perfect!
C. “.
Food is great but the staff have no clue how to serve a customer. It was busy at the time so maybe another visit is required for a better review.
A. M.
Ate here for dinner last night - really impressed! Tasty food, good service, reasonable prices, and nice atmosphere! Look forward to returning.
J.
The food is out of this world ( you can even ask for a doggy bag for what you cant finish) the staff and service is brilliant but i would recommend that you book your table as this place is always packed.
P. Z.
Excellent cooking and friendly service. The Rioja red wine could be a bit better but otherwise nothing to complain about

(Translated) First time I ate Indian and it won't be the last time. A most tender leg of lamb and the spices that blend to perfection, truly a delight. And the service is as good as the dish. I highly recommend.

Premiere fois que jai mangé indien et se sera pas la dernière fois. Un gigot d’agneau des plus tendres et les épices qui se marie a la perfection, vraiment un délice . Et le service est de qualité autant que le plat. Je recommande fortement.

(Translated) For what it was I found the price a bit high. The food was not bad. Especially the meat was buttery, but even dishes, which was not tendered with one of 3 possible chili peppers, were really spicy - you have to like it.
The service was a bit annoyed that we did not speak 100% perfect English.
It's worth mentioning that they serve "white ale" - a Japanese pale ale, which I really liked.
(Original)
