Reviews of Etles Uyghur Restaurant

It was an absolute delight to experience Etles, the atmosphere is warm and hospitable, the food is excellent and the service was as though you're a guest in a loving home. Would highly recommend, and try to skip lunch so you can really explore the menu :) The dumpling soup (can't remember the name), bread and stir fry chicken noodles were delightful, as was the sauce which came with the manta dumplings. Whatever you choose, you won't be disappointed!

We ordered by phone for collection. First time. Big plate chicken to share, beef noodles and lamb skewers. We ordered at 1415 and were told to come in half hour. We went at 1440 and were kept waiting until 1515. They packed my boxes after serving everyone else sitting in the shop. Very stressful as it was time to pick up the kids. Food was delicious though. Very different from traditional Chinese. It was fragrant and refreshing. Lovely colours. The gentleman who was serving took off £3 from the final bill for the delay in serving. We will be going back but at a less busier time.

An authentic experience surrounded by great staff and exceptionally good food.
A flavours bomb awaiting to shake up your senses. I was truly surprised by a bouquet of flavours that is almost a mix of Chinese and Mediterranean cousins.
Definitely to try.
Nevertheless to discover more about this culture, nowadays so much in the news due to very worrying political reasons.

Though I’ve had some pretty great meals over the years, this would easily make it to the top with some of my favourite places. The food was magnificent and it truly is a gem.
I ordered the following dishes and my only regret is not ordering more:
- 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻 (𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗯)
- 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮 𝗗𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀
I’ve never tried Uyghur food and this place has been on my list for 3 years, so when Hubby said he is going down Walthamstow, I finally got the chance to order!
The restaurant offers authentic dishes from Xinjiang in Northwest China. If you order food from here, you must try their hand pulled noodles, which are made fresh! The Stir fried Leghmen was bursting with flavour & although the portion looked small, it was very filling. The chunks of lamb were cooked perfectly too. I ate this on Friday and by Saturday, I was craving it again!
The steamed dumplings were filled with lamb and onions. The filling was very juicy. The flavours are subtle but add some of that chilli oil and it brings the dumplings to a whole new level! Absolutely LOVED it!! If you don’t like spicy food, add only a small amount of the chilli oil.
Thoroughly enjoyed the food and I wish I ordered more to try some of the other dishes. Have you tried Uyghur food?
If not, I’d highly recommend it!!

Nice and underrated restaurant. The food was tasty and had a nice chat with the owner. Definetly need to try the hand made noodles and the salty milk tea. For those who visiting the restaurant I suggest to call them before to check if they are open.
S. I.
Lovely, unpretentious food in a cool little cafe-style restaurant, this place is absolutely great! The food is very rich and tasty and doesn't feel as full of sugar as regular Chinese. The kung pao chicken was especially delicious, and all very affordable - fantastic.
This place is byo on booze.
S.
Beautiful setting, ambience and feel is very chilled out and intimate. The food is truly unique and delicious, went with the recommended dishes by the very kind and caring waiter, definitely was not disappointed with the choices and would recommend for the first timers. If in the area or want a truly unique cuisine, definitely give this place a go.
Y. M.
Tried their stir fried lamb Leghmen and it was super tasty. Portions are on the smaller side but it’s just about enough if you’re not super hungry
A. S.
This is my third visit. Friendly staff, super tasty food, family environment, great display of Uyghur culture and art on the walls, 100% recommended.
P. L.
I had wanted to go here for a few years, finally made it yesterday. I was not disappointed
I would recommend that you book a table as it is popular
The food is wonderful, and interesting, it's so nice to try a new cuisine.
The staff are friendly, helpful and courteous
I will definitely come back again and so will my eating companion
I will also try out the Finchley branch
I highly recommend this restaurant, it really is worth a try, we had numerous dishes and there was not a single one that we didn't like.
It's a very interesting cuisine, that seemed a blend between Turkish and Chinese, really tasty
Thank you Etles Uyghur Restaurant
D. E.
Had the stir fried Leghman - it was definitely worth it. The thick/chewy noodles are really nice too and the sesame seed topping gives really nice flavour. Also had the chicken wings starter - this was very good too. My only realisation was that the traditional tea wasn't for me 😅.
S.
Food overall is just so so.
Tried four items on the menu, the only thing that impressed me was the lamb rice.
Hand pulled noodles are very al dente, a shame it was too salty.
Lamb skew was a big disappointment, another Uyghur restaurant I tried in London does it so much better.
Samosa is serviced just warm, i just hoping for freshly baked piping hot ones.
Staff is nice, although he seems to be doing everything by himself so the service is quite slow.
H. G.
Amazing xinjiang cuisine! Bossman was friendly and accommodating.
Hand pulled noodles was spot on and lamb skewer was very authentic!
Will return
R. H.
Well well well, this place is great! Nice and small, fairly priced in my eyes and the food is really good. I've never eaten Uyghur food before but it was delicious! Nice one!
E. C.
Incredible food. I find this cuisine as a very interesting mix of Chinese and middle Eastern food, very unique flavours. Loved particularly the homemade noodles, stir fried.
T. K. Z.
Lovely gem in Walthamstow, delicious dumplings, leghmen noodles and chicken and potatoes. Staff are friendly and the food was amazing
S. Y.
I love this place. Simple and good food. My only issue is the slow service. Like expect to be ignored for too long. I went few times and every time the waiters would just ignore us.
D. Y. F.
Big bowl of chicken and flat noodles were nice and good value for money. Helpful staff.
Visited again today, first time since lock down. Food as good as always and first class service.
N.
I love Etles!! Been here ten-ish times. Their big plate chicken is to die for. Always ask for the noodles when you are nearly finished. They plomp into the sauce for an extra treat. Avoid the Kordak. We pre-ordered it and the meat was bland and unremarkable. Not worth it.
Y. T.
A lovely little neighborhood restaurant we have been meaning to try for ages!
We shared the beef leghmen, steamed lamb and onion dumplings, lamb trotters and chai tea.
The handpulled noodles had the perfect bite and chew and were great coated in the delicious sauces. The dumplings were huge and hearty- a tasty blend of Turkish and Asian styles. The trotters were my fave- juicy, tender and falling off the bone in a delicious silky sauce.
The chai had a herbaceous depth which was good for cutting through the richness of the dishes.
The staff were also exemplary at following the current COVID rules, ensuring safety of staff and customers alike (though the tables might be slightly too close if they were all filled). Service was polite and attentive.
Great value for money and will definitely come again to try the rest of the menu!
G. C.
The lamb skewer is a must try, it was so juicy and the seasoning was just right! I was not too fond of the lamb liver as they cook it quite rare and it gives quite a raw taste. Laghman was also very nice and you can definitely tell the noodles are handmade. Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu!
U. H.
This took me back to 2011 when I first chanced on Uyghur cuisine in Egypt (yes Egypt of all places!) As there was a large community of expats there studying Arabic and working to get by. The handpulled noodles were brilliant and fresh the beef and rice were amazing and to top it off the ekten chai with salt was a delicious way to end the meal. Highly recommend. The waitress was also really polite and knowledgeable about Uygur culture.
M. I.
Different cuisine to the usual and adds another dimension to Chinese food. Good flavours and fusion of cultures have resulted in some great flavours. Home made noodles also tastes far better than any other noodles I have tried. Wish the menu could have been more varied to provide more Uyghur cuisines.
M. A. R. K.
I had wanted to go here for a few years from Coventry, finally made it today 02/09/2021. I was a bit disappointed with the size of the restaurant at the same time amazed with being fully booked.
I would recommend that you book a table as it is most popular Chinese halal restaurant around.
The food is wonderful, and interesting, it's so nice to try a new cuisine.
The staff are friendly, helpful and courteous
I will definitely come back again.
I highly recommend this restaurant, it really was worth my time especially coming from far away. We had numerous dishes and there was not a single one that we didn't like.
Thank you Etles Uyghur Restaurant
M. U.
Must try the meat dumplings and kebabs! Probably the best dumplings I’ve ever had, so flavoursome and juicy. The kebabs hot off the skewers are amazing and well seasoned. Couldn’t ask for more. If you’re confused about what dish to try, I’d go for the Kung Pao with noodles. Can’t go wrong and has been great every time
A. K.
Came here last time following a recommendation and it was packed so had to walk away very reluctantly. Not so this time, towards the end we were the only one there.
For starters we had the sis kebab. Excellent flavour and the meat was cooked just right. All too often these kebabs are over cooked and chewy. This was just short of fully cooked yet very soft and tender.
Mains we had Dap an Ji. Have salivated over this dish for some time and I was not disappointed at all. A plethora of flavours that work all very well. Whole chicken with potatoes and bell peppers served on a bed of Ho Fun noodles. (Could do with more)
I would describe this food as a fusion of Chinese, Indian and a hit if Turkish... all in one.
I. S.
Love this place, amazing food and great service! It was a pleasure to have some traditional home cooked meal in over 10 years, thank you so much.
S. K.
Uyghur Chinese cafe. Beef skewers are very good and cheap. Other items such as noodles and curries are quite good without being excellent.
s. q.
Excellent customer service, and unique Uyghur cuisine. Delicious food. Highly recommended!
C. B.
Amazing amazing food! We had a beef laghman and the spicy tofu and both were excellent.
S.
Halal handpulled noodle options hard to come by, so having this in the neighbourhood is great. Some dishes could do with a revamp but end of the day the hand pulled noodles and lamb shish is good enough to make this place a regular spot
P. R. G.
My favorite restaurant in London-the food is amazing and the service is always super friendly and welcoming. The handmade noodles are to die for and everything else in the menu is also super delicious!
K. T.
Hidden treasure of Walthamstow. You don't even notice this place, even when walking by every day. But this small restaurant serves some of the best and most authentic Uyghur food. It can be really busy. I also really liked the family business feeling. A must when in Walthamstow!
M. W.
Lovely small family run establishment which makes, fresh and authentic food. The dumplings and noodles were handmade. Not your typical Chinese cuisine clearly.
A. R.
Food was nice, the decor is a bit, actually it is really outdated! Hence the 4 stars. But if the food is great then I guess that's what matters the most. Albeit it is expensive for a portion of noodles £9!! Then again the area is now gentrified and rents gone up, so I blame the hipsters for this! Otherwise generally nice staff and excellent take on Uyghur Chinese cuisine!
Z. K.
What an amazing little restaurant. Went there for my 40th and absolutely loved it. All of the food was great and the staff very kind and welcoming. Will definitely be back for seconds. They even gave my family slices of cake to end the night and added to the great memories created on that day.
J. K.
First visit, went on recommendation with my friend. Nice place, good was good, friendly service. Not many halal Chinese Uyghur restaurants around. Food was very different from typical Chinese, it was similar to Nepalese. Definitely worth trying.
M. M.
I had lunch with my daughter the other day, first time we were trying Uyghur food. We really enjoyed the food and would definitely come again. Great and welcoming restaurant and great service. And we loved the Uyghur cuisine.
J. M.
Awesome service. Waiter works perfectly. Food is really delicious. I left my airpods at restaurant. But waiter found it and gave it to me in this time i was far away from restaurant. He run to me and gave my airpods. I really appreciated.Thank you one more time for Waiter.
S.
Some Very Nice Traditional Dishes. We Played It Safe And Got The Wontons, Kung Pao Chicken And
Yu Xiang Rou Si. I Would Highly Recommend Giving This Place A Try, Nice Small Family Restaurant. Portions Are Great For The Price.
A. M.
Lovely aunthentic expeience! Yummy delicious food and quite economical too. Dumplings and lamb skewers are a must have.
A. M.
Amazing food and service. A lovely spot to visit.
S. B.
very unique food if you are into different types of cuisines.. definitely worth a visit but a bit too far for folks not living this. side of london
S. S.
Chicken was very delicious but beef wasn’t. Service was slow but staffs were friendly and kind. Liked it so much!
S. L.
Oh my days. PROPER Xinjiang food, authentic, hearty, big portion, reasonable price. JHEEZ! People who are queuing for Silk Road (the other Xinjiang restaurant in Camberwell) , I'm sorry to tell you but you're wasting your life. Get over here right. Now.
G. K.
Food was tasty. My friend ordered Kung-Pao chicken which was really nice and flavoursome and I took Baochao Niudu which meant to be Tripe with bell peppers but instead there was plenty of chopped dried chillies which I wasn't meant to eat as advised by waitress. Also spices meant to be separated and not eaten. You end up leaving half of plate. £10 is well overpriced.
At the end I was charged extra £3 for service charge which isn't mentioned on the menu and added manually to three receipt as you can see on the pic above. I have refused to pay it.
Dishonesty of staff working there makes me say I won't be back.
A.
Really nice food , loved the dumplings and the beef and mushroom dish . I drove over 2 hours to visit this place due to the halal food and it was well worth it , will be back definitely, I didn’t book a table and it was fully booked but the waitress and the boss accommodate me quickly to a table where her kids were sitting and told me i should book in advance in case, The food was delicious and it reminded me of China , portions were good and price was ok as well . I can not wait to come back and try all their dishes . I wish they had other branch near central or west London .
A. R.
Was on my restaurants to try list so when I opened the app and saw it was nearby thought I would give a try and have to say it was really good and very authentic...you must try their hand pulled noodles - have always wanted to try well worth it👍👍
M. C.
Let me start off by telling you that it has been a while since I’ve been to a restaurant which has delivered everything so perfectly.. this place is a hidden little gem! The food offers intricate flavours distinguishable from any other Asian cuisine I’ve tried. Their high hygiene rating is very apparent from the moment you step into the restaurant, it’s not just the cutleries and dishes that are sparkling clean. To top it off, the interior speaks volumes about the heritage and authenticity of the food they serve. Would highly recommend the stir fried leghmen, lamb dumplings and sis kebab. I didn’t get to try the polo or the samsa, will definitely be back to try them. If all this isn’t enough, the staff are some of the BEST EVER I’ve come across in London. It’s just such a lovely, warm and welcoming environment!
N. L.
Lamb skewers, dumplings and noodles were all amazing!
M. R.
Loved their food and very friendly staff, worth a revisit.
A. W.
We ordered a takeaway from this restaurant last week and the food was really tasty. We ordered dishes which had been recommended, but they were all a little samey in the taste. We really enjoyed the food however, and the service was really good too. I would recommend giving this restaurant a try if you're into spice.
t. r.
Great food, really interesting mix of dishes and flavours, nice service plus you can BYOB
S. S.
Exceptional food, good service, accurate prices, I definitely recommend this place.
S. R. (.
The taste of their food is so consistent, I have been going here for like 3 years and the flavours have been on point every time except once....Hence the 5 star.
I recommend their polo rice dish, the leghmen and the kebab skewers.... Its healthy and feels comforting to eat.
It's a small restaurant but one of my top restaurants...
M. P.
Great little spot. Staff are really welcoming and food is top quality! Well worth the visit.
T. F.
Really authentic Uyghur cuisine! Hand pulled noodle is a must order. Honey cake was nice too, in fact, I want to come back to try every dish on the memu!
H. S.
Best food I’ve ever had! Much better than I had anticipated. The texture and flavouring is also very unique. Once the pandemic is over I want to eat-in here. You must give it a try!
A. C.
Wonderful home cooking, the lamb was outstanding and rice and hand pulled noodles cooked to perfection. Great to taste Uyghur food.
K. W.
Ox tongue is the best dish. Ganbian noodles, lamb shish kebab are also excellent. BYO!
A. A.
Extremely warm and enjoyable place for long lamp talks. First time experience of Uyghur kitchen - next time visiting London will coom again!!
M. P.
Very nice food and cozy atmosphere. Service takes time but it's worth the wait and the food isn't rushed. Love the ganbian Chow Mein. A warm, family owned business.
S. D.
Great service, shared the dipanji (big plate chicken) and it's absolutely gorgeous. Really hearty authentic fresh food which we thoroughly enjoyed. It's a huge portion! The medium plate is enough for 3 people however we ordered additional noodles. Excellent value for money. Pulled noodles are so yummy
S. H.
Fantastic,authentic food,tickled my tastebuds straight away.Cheap,tasty food,lovely cook.
r.
Tasty but not sure if worth the trek across London for me.
S. M.
Best was tripe, and uyghur tea.... Definately will visit again.
S. C.
Let's discover a pearl in London. It is a mix of Chinese and Mongolian food. Place is cozy and owner is really friendly. Following his suggestions you will taste gnammy dishes with different and interesting flavours!
S. B.
Got delivery and it's so great! Somewhere between Turkish and northern Chinese (spicy variant) to my uneducated taste buds. Reminded me of food I ate in Xi'an and miss. Small menu, but it's all good so that's fine, just makes it easy to choose. And options for veggies!
I got my Liang Fen and potato salad fix, and dumplings, but my favourite was handmade noodles and tofu with spicy sauce. Noodles weresoft, chewy, moist wonderful and sauce was so rich with layered flavours. I liked the fresh vegetables in one variant too, but tofu is great. I wish I was still eating it.
Came quicker than expected and all made fresh.
R. A.
Pick this for our anniversary and what a choice. Food was delicious and unique with the inside have a wonderful cultural feel as if I’m in another country. As well as that they have praying space perfect evening
L. L.
The food was 8 out of 10. However the customer services and speed need to be improved especially in the peak hour. The table next to us arrived the same time like us but they have been served 4 dishes already including starter & main meal. But we only got the lamb skewer as starter over one hour waiting time. Strongly suggest you get your phone fully charged, so you can play the game while waiting for the food.
I managed a restaurant before so I do understand how busy it can get over the weekend. It is worthy to mention that food quality and customer services are equally important to a restaurant.
J. K.
Went to the Finchley branch. Lovely decor. Food was full of flavour. I could taste the food in my mouth an hour after my visit, not even an exaggeration. Hand made noodles are the star of the show, really thick and soft. Our Uzbek brother that served us was really informative and was great to talk too. Highly recommended.
J. L.
Absolutely fantastic Uyghur food!!! 100% traditional! All the ingredients are so fresh! The flavour reminds us of the hometown!!! Will definitely bring my friends to here!
L. A.
Really lovely, freshly prepared food. Dishes I hadn't had before served with a smile!
J.
Grab a table, grab some byob, order the lamb skewers with the chicken kung pao with noodles.
M. N.
Lovely little restaurant with wonderful staff. Quality skewers, dumplings and noodles. First time eating Uyghur food and can't recommend highly enough.
Look forward to the opportunity to get back there after lockdown!
F. A. C.
Fantastic food, flavours so different from anything I've tasted, great portion size and value for money
A. S.
dipanji (big plate chicken) is the best I’ve ever had. Handmade noodles, dumplings and cucumber salad is also a must!! You’ll be dreaming of this restaurant weeks after visiting. Family run hidden gem!
M. T. Z. O.
Great Food, Great Taste , Remarkable Cuisine of the Ancient Silk Road from past to Now !recommended! Unique Cuisine one and only in London
J. C.
My friends and I are obsessed with this restaurant - it's amazing. Recently tried the cucumber paprika salad which sounds / looks plain but was so subtle and delicious. The hand-pulled noodles are fantastic.
J. B.
Very authentic Uyghur food. A little far (zone 3). Recommend chicken dish and kabab. Good for a group meal.
K. M.
Amazing tasing food with a very unique menu and homely feel to the restaurant. Very authentic setting and highly recommended
A. B.
The food is amazing and very delicious. One of the best and authentic Uyghur cuisines in London.
S. G.
Different style unique Chinese, don’t expect typical ‘Chinese’ dishes here, the menu’s more like Arab-Asian.
Better for more adventurous eaters.
C. w.
Genuinely the best food I've ever had and I try new things almost weekly, first dined here years ago and I've yet to try something I love as much not to mention very reasonable prices
R. B.
So yummy and you can bring your own booze 🥰😍
n.
Authentic flavours which means it won't suit everyone. The Ganbian Chaomian is great, else is mostly mediocre
S. R.
Authentic and tasty uyghur food. Definitely try it out.
W. C.
Friendly owners and staff. Genuine Uyghur dishes and decor. Owners are Uyghur and staff are Uzbek.
G. S.
I love this place, amazing authentic food! I try something new each time and I still can't pick my favourite!
Staff are so kind, welcoming and keen to share their culture with you. I'm not very good with spice and staff are very accommodating and happy to make your food a little less spicy if you would like - they're keen to make sure you have the best experience there possible!
Menu is great, varied and has photos which are really useful when deciding what you want to eat. Great prices and the atmosphere is very nice, it's filled with traditional decor down to the plates!
I love this place and couldn't recommend it more! Lovely food, people and atmosphere makes it an excellent experience every time :)
I. L.
Great home made dishes! Fresh and full of flavour!
S. Y.
Best meals ever. Outstanding service. Sultonbek is perfect
D. &. D.
Lovely people, restaurant and lovely food. As a meat eater plenty of choice compared to the Anglasized options you get at Indian restaurants where most of their authentic food is vegetarian.
Y. C.
The owner is really friendly! She really care about every customers. Amazing generous food portion !recommend brings friends family to share different plates.
Highly recommend their homemade noodles dish and lamb skewers. Dumplings also with it regional character.
The chili sauce serve on each table is a must-try, spicy but not crazy hot, full of aroma.
I've seen many customers order the super big portion chicken dishes, that's our aim next visit!
We feel lucky to have this lovely and rare Uyghur cuisine place in Walthamstow! Thank you!
C. Ö.
Amazing home made fresh noodles and dumplings!
A. W.
Came here with my husband, enjoyed the food and the decoration. Family run, very friendly. Very good value for money! I will be returning. I'm Turkish and my husband is Pakistani and thought the dishes were better than some of our national dishes.
J. S.
I went there to discover a new restaurant in the local area. It is very reasonably priced and the food was very tasty. Don't go there if you expect typical Chinese food - it does certainly deliver on the Uyghur cooking style though and I personally preferred it to another famous restaurant of the same style in South London (silk road). Unfortunately, the waiter who was looking after our table was very inexperienced (seemed like it was his first day) so everything took a little while. However, the owners were very apologetic about this. I would definitely visit again when in the area. Also, please note that that the restaurant operates a BYOB policy.
s. k.
Food is really nice tried dumplings and polao. Simple and delicious
f. a.
First time trying Ugyur cuisine and was skeptical to say the least. However the staff were friendly and informative, advising what each of the dishes were. The food was presentable and hot. Tasted delicious everything we ordered. Would definitely go back to this place as we had come all the way from Scotland. 👍👍👍
Y. A.
Amazing food and a very friendly host.
This isn’t your traditional Chinese cuisine as their dishes are from the West China region, a definite must try. My favourite dish has to be the hand made noodles prepared fresh at the restaurant.
There are very few halal Chinese cuisines in London and Uyghur is a great example. I highly recommend you try it. I’ve eaten here a number of times with family and friends and they’ve all enjoyed the food and service.
s. h.
Wonderful food and fast delivery service through Deliveroo- the manta dumplings, lamb with noodles, baklava and honey cake were all exceptional. Will definitely order again.
L. H.
The most authentic Uyghur cusine in London. Dinner here always transports me right back to China, fabulous!
A. W.
Loved the dumplings and lamb dishes. As others have said, it reminded me of some of the food we ate (and loved) in Xi'an. Please support them!
S. Q.
Visited yesterday with a friend. Arrived on a Tuesday evening around 8pm to discover one free table - hurray.
The restaurant was packed with lots of people enjoying their food. Ordered the big plate chicken, dumplings, lamb pilaf and lamb kebabs. Oh yum! Absolutely delicious and good value for money too.
Try their tea pot tea - delicate aroma of rose and dont miss their traditional milky tea - which may not be on the menu. This tea can be made sweet (more popular) or savory. Both delicious too. Will definitely come back soon.
I did visit again ... on my birthday for a takeaway. Big plate chicken, lamb and hand made noodles and sis lamb kebabs. Absolutely delicious! Would recommend you to try their food.
M. A.
Good service 👍🏻
Delicious food
Very clean
So that’s how it became my favourite restaurant in town :)
i. U.
Absolutely loved the food!
E. B.
Such tasty food at good prices. The lamb is amazing.
M. K.
Great food, skewers were delicious

It wasn’t a such nice experience as we were expecting. but we would go there again in near future to try different dishes. The Etles Uyghur restaurant is a small busy place where there are Uber drivers walking in and out all the time, 2 large tables normally occupied by families and friends and a few other tables for couples. As soon we walked in, there was a table reserved for the two of us, so far so good. We waited for 10 minutes so the waiter could give us the food menu and at the same time another couple sat next to us. We were surprised with the fact of them having 4 small Asahi beer on their table...hmmm.... we looked around and checked the menu for beers/wine and apparently, you can bring your own booze since the restaurant doesn’t sell it!!! Wow. We had to order two “diet cokes”...to keep healthy...anyway, we order the Tugur vegetarian dumplings, few lamb skewers and a vegetarian Chaomian. After tasting all of these, we came to the conclusion that the dumplings were too watery, the lamb skewers were to greasy and Chaomian missed some lamb/chicken/tofu (which is not part of the dish). You actually have to order a couple more dishes and combine them all to get a proper meal. For our surprise, if you ever go there on the first day of the new chinese year, make sure you bring cash because they don’t accept card.
Overall: 4/5
Food: 3/5
Space: 4/5
Waiters smiling: 3/5

Went along with a friend to try for lunch. Guy serving was really friendly and helpful. Totally unhip, unpretentious place. We had the noodles, in two different ways. Did read really really flavourful without being too spicy (although I did pick out a lot of the chillies on mine!) The little lamb kebabs and kidney kebabs were amazing. No booze as Chinese Muslim. Don't expect the 'usual' English Chinese takeaway food. It's excellent!
A. G.
The Medium Plate Chicken with hand pulled noodles was delicious. A little expensive when you're greedy but we felt it was well worthwhile and we were glad to learn more about Uyghur cuisine.
C. F.
What a great addition to the restaurants of Walthamstow. I was new to Uyghur cuisine and was very pleased to find that it is right up my street!
I would strongly recommend lambs foot stew, which is hearty plate melting deliciousness. The little lamb kebabs were absolutely packed with flavour. And who’d have thought I’d see my 10 year old daughter chomping her way through a dish of super-spicy tripe. Everything we ordered was great. Can’t wait to visit again.
F. D.
No thrills setting, and that’s fine with me when the food is this tasty. Big portions, good selection of offal too, which is always a bonus. Loved the sis kebaps and tripe salad. Will definitely be back. A great introduction to Uyghur cuisine.
M. H.
I'm a permanent customer here as the place has delicious cuisine and amazing service in a home-like friendly atmosphere! Chuchwara soup is highly recommended!
L. H.
Went today for first time, loved it. Delicious and interesting food, sensible sized menu, and chilled atmosphere. We tried many things but the dumplings and lagman noodles were the stars. The staff were very friendly! It's a fairly new business and they are building up trade, I hope they do well because they are a great addition to Walthamstow.

Lovely Food Good Service value for money
A. H.
Ate here for the first time last night after seeing the very high rating - it did not disappoint! Absolutely recommend the ganbian chaomian. Best noodles I have ever had in my life. The kebabs are also rubbed with the most delicious spices - ideal for a starter with a fresh paprika salad.
m. a.
From the moment you walk in it is a good experience. Greeted by a super friendly and kind person made us feel very welcome. The menu is very simple, well laid out and east to understand. The food was amazing and so unqiue the first bite blew me away. The sis kebab starters were seriously on another level good. The mains were very good and very generous in portion size. Overall really enjoyed this unqiue place and will be going back as i want to literally try everything the menu has to offer. Prices are also very reasonable for the portion sizes. A must go and a hidden gem of London.
J. G.
The best Xinjiang food! We basically visit every Saturday. Staff super friendly and helpful. Generous portion and delicious saucy dishes. Price is very reasonable as well. Truly a hidden gem in town. Although slightly far from central, worth the trip!
C. M.
Really delicious food, we had the big sharing plate of chicken and it was amazing! Service was also great, efficient, friendly and accommodating. Loved the restaurant too, relaxed atmosphere and great decor! Will be back again! Couldn’t recommend highly enough.
d. d.
Lovely food. BTW, don't bother with rice its all about the home made noodles. The dumplings are also home made and good too. Also, don't try to get deliveroo here. Tried it one time and it doesn't travel that well. Need it fresh to the table.
M. K.
I haven't had Uyghur food before so we took a plenty of dishes to share. The food was full of flavour and good level of spiciness. I only wish they had some bread so I could clean up the sauce from the big plate. Don't wear your white shirt!
W. L.
Wow, what an incredible restaurant!
The staff are extremely helpful and lovely.
As for the food, wow! What a culinary delight. The explosion of flavours was tremendous.
Definitely worth a trip, even if you live in Scotland.

What a discovery the Etles Uyghur Restaurant was to me! I was in Walthamstow preparing a route for the Ealing Walking, Talking and Exploring Group visit and on the lookout for somewhere with a difference to sit down, relax and have some food after a busy tour. I noticed this charming restaurant which intrigued me. I went in. Soon I found myself sat at a table waiting for a surprise dish, cooked while I was waiting. This is how it's done at the Etles! Meanwhile I was chatting to the lady in charge, possibly the owner. It was like meeting a friend you haven't seen for a long time! The wait was not long. First arrived an Uyghur-style samosa. It was very tasty indeed. My main meal was their signature homemade noodles, best noodles I've ever had, seriously, served with a sauce with veal, seasonal vegetables and really delicious spices which gave the dish a great flavour. The roasted? sesame seeds complemented it perfectly. I am so happy I walked in there!
S. H.
Food was OK. Nothing too amazing. Avoid the bread it's like a slab of concrete. Service could be better. Meat used in sis kebab are cheap cuts. Not overly impressed. I'm guessing the high ratings are from hipsters trying to be cool eating different food.
H. I.
Delicious food and very generous portions. A nice fusion of Turkish and Chinese cuisines. The chef was a really nice lady, asked us about the food and even sent us homemade desserts. I definitely recommend this place.
J.
3 out of 5, but could be higher if not for the service.
Went on a Friday evening, Ramadan, so a packed out place. It's a small family business, so best to make a booking, I feel to ensure you get a seat.
I'll start by saying the handmade noodles are really nice. The standout thing for me. Whether it was in the soup dish or fried, the noodles were very nice.
The kung pao chicken was plenty flavourful, and the rice, you know, I could've just had the rice on its own and been fine. Maybe because I was hungry, but yeah, the rice was really good for whatever reason.
Also tried the grilled lamb. The meat itself was good but the seasoning wasn't for me (like a powdered masala). Didn't try to kidney this time, maybe next time.
Wished to try the polo rice, but that was sold out (table that arrived after us were served first, so I think they got dibs on it, grr).
Service was sadly slow, keeping in mind Ramadan and a packed place. That said, we just couldn't get the attention of the wait staff at all (they kept looking down), so I had to get up and go to the back of the shop to get attention, and even then it took a few reminders before our orders were eventually taken. I know it was busy, but it was disappointing, especially when a table that arrived much later than us were served first. They owner did apologise for the delay though, so there is that.
Overall, I probably would go back, just at a quieter period. Definitely good to have Uyghur cusine around though, because if the Chinese government don't want it, others sure will!
J. C. B.
Fantastic and unique Uyghur Chinese food. So yummy!
A. M.
Had 3 visits here, first visit was very good, great authentic food, better than any chinese food ive had, great customer service.
Second visit the noodles were not as good as before, one meat dish was undercooked but rest of food was good, they were very busy so could understand.
Third visit was not so good, server was rude, not interested in our custom, denied my request, didnt bring our drinks we ordered, towards end of meal i asked for drinks again, she said she’ll bring them then and after a while disappeared in the back not to return. A guy came out to take over front of house. After finishing meal and waiting we decided to leave and not ask again for our drinks. We got charged for drinks we didnt get and got short changed too. Guess they were having a bad day.
Disappointed but will try once more
J. a. I. S.
Very tasty food, with Middle Eastern (Turkic) and Chinese influences. Friendly service, very generous portions and affordable prices.
The home made Lagman (half way between pasta and noodles) was particularly good.
Also of note was the giant big plate chicken and the chicken liver skewers (best kabab outside of Turkey according to my Turkish friends).
Many of the dishes are a little spicy (but not crazily so) which is not indicated in the menu so be careful.
S. K.
Truly hurts me to rate this a 4 instead of a 5.
Wonderful family run restaurant. Small, cosy atmosphere. Pulls in a vibrant crowd from Walthamstow yuppies to families. Bustling atmosphere helped out by the BYOB policy.
The food is excellent. Be sure to ask for off-menu items like the Samsa and naan bread for your sis kebabs.
However, when the restaurant is full, the place just collapses. You guys should invest in proper food management technology for your orders so you don’t forget who ordered what. Dishes come to your table in a random order. You truly have to be patient with your meal here.
That being said, if you’re in a fun group, and the beers and conversation are flowing, then it’s easy to ignore the chaos behind the scenes and tuck into some truly unique food.
Very reasonably priced. Works out to around £15/person.
Menu recommendations:
Samsas (off menu), sis kebabs and dumplings to start
Chaomiang, big plate chicken, polo for mains.
D. L. S.
Brilliant place. A friend brought me here ages ago and I have been a regular ever since.
Excellent food, something for everyone, friendly service and still somewhat of a hidden gem.
Make sure to check it out!
C. L.
All lamb dishes are so well cooked!

Visit: 28 December 2017
Returned to trying something different from the menu, which on this occasion was Baochao Niu Du (tripe stir fried with a LOT of chilli, aromatic peppercorns and onions) which i had with noodles together with a few shish kebabs and a kidney kebab. I left very full and content. Again, the staff were very friendly.
Visit: 8 December 2017
Having read favourable reviews on a local Facebook group I visited with a friend for lunch. I was not disappointed.
Very friendly staff, possibly the owner, who gave us a brief history of the region and smiled as I mangled his language.
The food was delicious. Friend ordered the Lagman noodles which tasted delicious while I ordered the Ganbian Chaomian, equally delicious and tasty. We also tried the shish kebab, which is likely to be unlike anything you've tried before if you only venture into kebab shops, the seasoning was incredible. I also had the kidney kebab, if you like offal your taste buds are in for a treat!
Highly recommended and I'll certainly be back because there's quite a lot to explore on the menu.
G. F. L.
Authentic Uyghur restaurant that you shouldn't miss. We always go for the big chicken stew with hand pulled noodles. Impressive and delicious big plate of chicken with everything spicy that you can find in the kitchen: Chillies, ginger, garlic and pepper. If you are not very good at spicy food like me, you will sweat a bit, but won't be able to stop munching on those small chicken bones.
T. T.
Delicious local food. Great and efficient service! Would recommend the skewers and manti dumplings. Very affordable too.
A. W.
Went with 6 friends on a Tuesday evening, very authentic food, handmade noodles/interesting options. Not your typical menu, friendly staff, casual atmosphere. Food came out as and when ready which some people may find annoying but for us we were fine with as we were sharing the dishes. Would recommend.
P. S.
fantastic food, lovely staff and great value
go for the big plate chicken and the noodles!
E. W.
Delicious dishes with great portion size. Interesting cuisine as from North West of China where other influences are present but with plenty of 'safe' options on menu also - something for everyone!! Had lamb hooves for something different (amazing) and Kung pao chicken as a regular favourite. Was great and took home loads for later ;)
N. M.
Food was great and very different from your standard Chinese menu, felt like a Chinese/Turkish mashup.
It's BYO but they only seem to have tumblers so probably stick to beer.
Service is terrible but stick at it.
Final warning, lots of tomato based, slightly greasy sauce means use the napkins. We're down a pair of trousers and a top from our last visit but it was worth it.
G. I.
My husband and I love Uyghar food and often ate it when we lived in New York. When we drove past the sign out front we couldn't believe our luck! The food does not disappoint it's very traditional and tasty! Our favourite is lagman - the hand pulled noodles are amazing as was the shish kebab.
They just opened and are all extremely sweet. Highly recommend!
M.
Order the sechuan tongue!
Best dish I've had in a very long time.
It's byob, very good of them I don't recall them charging us a fee for that. Should have been a fee I'm sure.
We also have the homemade noodles and wonton soup. It's all delicious you can't go wrong. But make sure to get that tongue dish! Yum.
Reservation is recommended even on a week day.
We'll be back there as soon as we're in the area again.
A. N.
Amazing restaurant serving authentic Uyghur food. This is a real jem in East London. The food is consistently delicious and the service is excellent. The owner, Mukaddes, is incredibly friendly and goes above and beyond especially when we visit with our little girl. I reccomend trying the Lagmaan, with hand pulled noodles and the dumpling soup.
P. E.
We keep going back because we love this place. I like the home made noodles and my husband the tripe. The vegetables are very fresh. It was crowded tonight but we had foresight to book
A. H. L.
Superb food, amazing friendly host (who brought us homemade honey cake, and boy they were delicious). Kebabs well seasoned, lagman textured and soaked in flavourful sauce, and you must try the dingding somän. We are returning soon to try the big plate chicken, and I am letting all my friends know about this hidden gem in North London!
U. B.
Great place, great atmosphere, charming staff, and phenomenal food. The vegetarian food is top notch — it’s not all listed on the menu but if you ask they’re very happy to make variants on their meat dishes for you. Recommended!
S. L.
No doubt the best Uyghur good in London. Speaking from one grew up in Xinjiang, big plate chicken is amazing, so are the barbecues. Excellent service as well. Feels like home!
伦敦最正点的新疆餐厅 强烈推荐
C.
Really good food and fab service. I think its BYOB.

I met the world's nicest server last night at this restaurant with my friend. Great atmosphere, very bright and cosy lounge.Incredibly kind waitress. The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering, delicious Chinese halal food and traditional Uyghur /Turkish food(red meat, fish and vegetarian available)
I have ordered Polo and uyghur shish kebab, which is great choice for someone who doesn't like spicy food like me(very reasonable price as well) my friend has ordered a ganbian leghmen(spicy) with Tofu(vegetarian dish)
The food was served hot and fresh, so we both satisfied with the professional customer services.want to go back there very often. Highly recommend!
L. H.
Love this place, the food is brilliant...so tasty and portions are big! We come up from Leyton for dinner here every couple of months and have introduced many local friends to it! It's bring your own alcohol which they now charge a corkage of 10% of the bill for.
n. b.
What an amazing find in Walthamstow; the food is absolutely delicious and the dishes are so interesting. Going to Etles initially was the first time that I have experienced Uyghur food, Uyghur is a region of China located in the far west of the country. It is now my favourite regional Chinese cuisine.
S. H.
Went for a birthday meal. Invited through the window by a guest, who was making a thump up signs ;-)
What a nice surprise! Excellent food, the owner very natural, calm and kind and it seems all the customers picked up on that and greeting each other on the way in and out. Would recommend the Lagman (Uyghur pasta), very long and thin, especially prepared for special ocasion to celebrate and invoke longevity. could not resist the sis kabab and amazing dumplings. got take away to feed us through the rest of the coming days. very generous portions. my wife had a vegetarian version and she was completely blown away. she is not an easy one, let me tell you. she sad that was one of top five meals in her life! we drank salty yougurt and went happily home... highly recommended!
S. F.
The food was amazing, I was blown away by the flavour of the chowmain, salad and lamb skewers. The staff are lovely and welcoming a gem and definitely worth a visit. Can't wait to try the rest of the menue.

Many many years ago, I encountered Uyghur cuisine in Sydney Australia. There the Uyghur community is large enough to sustain several restaurants and I thought it so tasty that I couldn't get enough. However I had to wait a long time for a similar establishment to open nearer home.
To my joy, after regular Google searches, I recently came across Etles and took my 87 year old mother, a self acknowledged foodie. She too enjoyed it very much that we made a repeat visit a couple of weeks later with more planned in the not too distant future to work our way through the menu.
Situated an easy walk from the railway station in the centre of Walthamstow, it's an unpretentious establishment more bistro-like than restaurant. If you drive, the closest parking I managed to find is in the Mall after unsuccessfully and frustratingly driving around the surrounding streets all of which required resident parking permits.
The menu reflects the ethnic diversity of the region which straddles the Silk Road historically linking Asia with Europe via the Middle East from which the Uyghurs originate. The cuisine mirrors this with variants of Central Asian, Chinese and Middle Eastern dishes often known by slightly different names. There is no alcohol on the drinks menu.
The food at Etles clearly uses the freshest of ingredients and was very good. The service was attentive and my mother and I were made to feel very welcome. I will strongly recommend them as much for foodies looking for something different as well as for aficianados of Uyghur cuisine.
C. A.
Beautiful food. Pheonomenal flavour. We had the Zhong Pan Ji, Pollo, Kebabs and dumplings.
All the dishes were wonderful and in great portions. You will not be disappointed.
P.s Halal food with no beer served on the premises. Great service too!
D. N.
Owner is lovely, some of the best noodles I've had. They have some secret stuff like the bread, it's not on the menu but you van ask for it. Definitely a winner.
D. P.
Amazing food! Last time I had proper authentic food like this was in China! The hosts were amazing too, super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place, it's a must try!
J. I.
Good location. Very welcoming friendly owners. Food is great, so delicious especially "Laghman" is the best. Me and my Mrs go often and we enjoy going to this restaurant))

It was an absolute joy to have visited such a tasteful and talented restaurant. The food was truly unique and mouthwatering, I will definitely be coming back. Thank you so much for the great service. Highly recommend!
R. B.
Food dishes full of flavour, Rice and Noodle portions are small though.
G. M.
I'd agree with the rave reviews here. Our second meal here. Etles is really wonderful; the food is homemade, rich and a great fusion of different cuisines from China west along the Great Silk Road. The ququre (home made beef wanton noodles with ginger and a rich stock) are supreme; the ganbian chaomian delicious. This is hearty, comforting food for a winter's night. The family who run Etles are incredibly genuine, warm and welcoming - their presence makes the experience a rich one.
D. M.
Probably, my favourite restaurant in London!
桐.
It is a pretty restaurant. Their dish has a great taste. Do not miss out if you are around this part of london. Wish they could open a new one in central london where close to me.

Was a nice and cozy space. Loved the interior. Fast service and didn’t wait long for the food. Ordered Chao mian, Lagman and lamb kebabs. Everything tasted fantastic
