Reviews of Farang London
R. S.
I've been wanting to go here for a really long time and I finally got the chance last week. I absolutely loved how They had a small little Asian grocery area within the restaurant. Some ingredients can be hard to source and it's nice that they sell them right there. I really appreciate it how beautiful the space was as well as how bright and open it was. The food was good. Large quantities and freshly made. We had these sea bass and beef cheek curry as well as the fried chicken to start. We also ordered the kale chips which I thought were going to be served warm and roasted. However they were more like the dried kale chips that you can get served with a chili sauce.

Went to their autumn tasting event which was great, chefs were very personable and talked about the dishes and how to eat them. Food was so tasty and loads of different flavours. Only negative was the huge portion sizes made you full quite quicklg! But that's not much of a negative. Would come back
A. H.
Best prawn crackers I've ever had. Best fried chicken I've every had. Best kale I've ever had. Beef cheek curry was unbelievable. The roti was ridiculous delicious. Only regret was we ordered too many fried things and felt uncomfortably full afterwards.

The best Thai restaurant I have been to in London. Blown away by the food - everything was exciting to eat. I would say mix of authentic Thai food with modern twists. The food was fresh, spicy and colourful. Expect combinations of grapefruit, cashews, chilli, samphire & fish sauce. We ordered the set menu which was great value and left us so full, with lots of food to take home. Adored the prawn curry, salads and crispy fish. And can't forget about the home made banana ice cream to end a wonderful dining experience. The service was the perfect balance polite and helpful whilst and leaving you alone to spend your evening. We will 100% be back.

We had wanted to try Farang for ages, as it always looks so inviting and menus very interesting. We booked onto their valentine tasting menu. The food was Amazing! So tasty and well presented, also really generous portions. Starters of flossed prawns and salmon and crab crispy noodles were divine. Main course chicken curry came with a brilliant roti. And desert - coconut and mango rice pudding- wow! Really great services and the place was buzzing with lots of people enjoying great food. Will 100% be back asap!! Definitely recommend highly.

The food is very scrummy and very reasonably priced. The staff are lovely. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. The beef curry was literally melt in the mouth. The only down side is it's cold inside the restaurant, the chairs ain't overly comfortable and there's nowhere to hang your coat (the tables are close together and others tread on them when they're slung over the back of the chair). But overall a really lovely place to eat.

Walked into the place on a Thursday evening and saw that all main tables were reserved. This was the first sign of something special.
We managed to get a side table and ordered the feast menu. Every single dish was absolutely amazing. The best Thai food I have had outside of Thailand.
I'm planning on coming back next week.

Ridiculously tasty flavour combinations! Fresh and vibrant flavours including Thai and British produce. Also great wine, beer and cocktails. Will definitely be going back.
J. S.
Mouthwatering experience! Not easy to walk-in, so booking is recommended. Great choice of dishes. A fireworks of tastes. Spice level is hight, do be prepared. Also you get a discount for their shop.
Will absolutely come back again

First ever visit but I would certainly go there again. My daughter picked it for lunch when I was down for the weekend. Small and welcoming establishment with a simple artisan style ambiance. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and they only use fresh seasonal ingredients.
The food is excellent, a riot of ever changing flavours, some so fleeting on the tongue that you can't pin them down. It was a wholly new experience for me and I would heartily recommend it to anyone.

I do not normally leave reviews, but this time i have to admit if i could leave 10 stars i would rate this place like this. The food is just unbelievable..tasty, perfect and unique. The sticky ribs were delicious and the gai prik chicken was crispy and juicy. Service is on top, the staff is friendly and with the knowledge of what they are selling. Many compliments. I will be back for sure. Highly Recommended. Mary

Farang has changed my life 🤣 having relocated here from Singapore, I was skeptical seeing a random Thai restaurant at blackstock road and having been disappointed with the quality of Asian food in London in general.
BUT! How glad was I to take a leap of faith and walked in on that faithful day! I’ve been back frequently ever since, Farang never disappoints!
Call it Thai food or Fusion Thai Food, it is one of the best Thai food I’ve ever had in my life and I’m saying this having come from a Singapore where quality Thai food is everywhere.
Don’t expect the typical stuff like Tom Yum etc, or the more sour, traditional style of Thai food. This is Thai food refined and fused with western styled cooking, to fantastic effect.
Try the:
- Gai Prik (IPA fried chicken)
- Red curry of coconut braised beef cheeks
- Spicy southern style coconut, lemongrass and turmeric tiger prawns
- Pad Thai (Thursdays only but how I wish it were on the main menu!)
Simple, unpretentious food that packs a punch!

Once again, many compliments Farang. You never disappoint. Food, service and vibes always perfect. Keep it up!
Beef curry was so tender...can't wait to visit again x x x x x

I had a good experience at Farang! Food was unconventional and service prompt. The menu was varied, giving the chance to try multiple options "tapas" style. I recommend this place and will definitely visit again in the future! Just a note - be careful if you order the super spicy thai soup :)
R. M.
High quality Thai food with friendly service. Would recommend the battered chicken and salted prawns. The jungle curry is not for the faint hearted! The sorbet was needed to cool the palate afterwards :)
D. B.
Bought Cook at home food. It was delicious! It's a different level compared to your usual Thai restaurant.
P. D.
I'd been really looking forward to visiting Farang but unfortunately felt it was overrated and quite disappointing for the most part. Some of the small plates were really very good: the cavalo nero crisps with an excellent, spiced sauce; the zingy, fresh trout salad (the crab was sadly M.I.A though); and the fragrant and hot jungle curry. However, a number of the dishes were a bit heavy-handed and sickly sweet, more reminiscent of a Thai takeaway than a restaurant of such pedigree. These included the vegetable yellow curry, the crab curry, and the tofu which came with a sauce disappointingly similar to sweet chili sauce. Whilst some of the dishes were fantastic, we were a little way off from the punchiness of authentic Thai food, or even from the slightly more flavoursome concoctions at other top London Thai restaurants like Som Saa and Smoking Goat. Service is friendly on the whole, and very quick. Portions are generous and good value. Maybe it's intentional but I feel like more care could have been taken with the design; it's clear that this used to be a neighbourhood Italian restaurant and the look is a little dated in places. Appreciate that they're self-funded though (thank you, Farang, for your reply) and the emphasis should rightly be on the staff and food.

One of the most fun Thai restaurant I had for a while in London ! A lot of street food style Thai cooking ! The plates are very nice making it feel like eating in Thailand the spicy prawns are Thai level spicy and goes amazing well with the rice ! Love the variety of Thai salads and the fried chicken was tasty! Love the black sesame ice cream! Well worth a visit! Ask for full Thai spicy if you are up for a challenge :)
l.
Amazing set menu for £35 and a cocktail, reasonable portions that really make you feel full but not the extra mile. Mix of chicken, beef curry, soup. Everything was nicely cooked in its right temperature, not cold nor extremely hot. Although mostly everything was spicy it was well balanced and you could taste the other flavours as well. Staff really friendly and quick. Music in the restaurant is a 5 star. Review belongs to the Farang in 72 Highbury.
S. S.
I absolutely recommend this place. Delicious food and pleasant atmosphere. I missed more non meat options thats the only reason not to give 5 star.
T. L.
Tasty Thai street food served up in the old pizza restaurant, the curry is very spicy, loved the veggie crispy wontons and my partner enjoyed his crispy seabass with sweet and sour sauces. Make sure you book because they get packed.
S. C.
Simply phenomenal. Really authentic flavours in a cosy setting and at a reasonable price. This was hands down the best Thai food we've had outside of Thailand.
S. E.
Such complex flavours and textures... unique... tasty bitesized menu of gorgeous creations! Fresh... flavourful... spicy!! colourful. Cosy busy atmosphere.... warm and friendly staff. Had a lovely evening. Recommend a visit. At times... perhaps some of the complexity and flare is a little superfluous... simple, well executed flavour goes a long way.

Love what these guys do!
I’ve not eaten at the restaurant yet, but they’ve managed to set up a great take away system thanks to which we’re able to enjoy amazing Thai food at home. I had great curries, the prawn miang bites are the best thing ever, the chilli sauce that comes with the kale crisps is amazing.
Pricier than the average Thai, that’s true, but this is NOT the average Thai.
If you live in the neighbourhood treat yourself!
F. A.
Simply, for myself and my friends, it was an altogether 5-star experience. Only thing we would change is our eating capacity!
I had the Yam Têāhū Gatti Crispy, which was the true winner. I had never eaten aubergine cooked that way, and everything mixed so well together. The Gai Prik was a close second, with the magical dip - which blew us away.
Quick notes from my friends...
Nate: "Delightful acute flavours. From soft flavour of the coconut within the aubergine dish to the spice within the cabbage dish."
Albert: "The satay sauce in the prawn was smooth and delicious
The chicken was wonderful, soaked with flavour and crunch."
We enjoyed the meal with a beautiful Rosé, suggested by the waiter, who was awesome and helpful throughout. Thank you Farang for living up to your hype, would highly reccomend.
Ciao.

We don’t live around here, but after following them on social media for a few months I decided to come here with my partner. The interior was a slight disappointment- I was expecting something very modern from the style of instagram photography. Obviously the owners haven’t invested in interiors as it looks very much like a dated Italian trattoria. The 2 starters we ordered (prawn something with Beetle leaves & Crispy Chicken- see pics) were absolutely amazing- never tasted anything like and we were blown away. However, the chicken main and the jungle curry was a disappointment. Too many flavours, spices and ingredients that didn’t work well. I am all up for inventiveness, but you better make sure you are better than the classics! Having eaten a lot of Thai food in my life including a lot in Thailand, I am sorry but we were very disappointed. Would we come back? Honestly, no! There are better places in London serving tastier and authentic Thai food. The service was Top Notch- super friendly waiters.
E. H.
Farang catered for our wedding in February and did an absolutely amazing job! All our guests kept complimenting on how tasty the food was, saying things like it was the best Thai food they ever had and that they were all definitely going to be going to the restaurant now! Everything was so fresh and presented beautifully, using banana leaves as runners on the tables. A huge thank you to Sebby and Nikki for putting together such a delicious menu, and working with us on all of our guests dietary requirements.
S. S.
Very very good food, so expect very high prices. Two main courses and two sides (since the dishes don’t come with any rice or roti themselves), and you should not expect much change from £50. The staff-recommended tasting menu meanwhile is £90 for two... or £70 if you take the reduced version. None of this includes wine of course.
If this all seems like a reasonable price to pay for dinner for two, Farang is a really excellent choice for you. You won’t find any Pad Thai on the menu, only creative, flavourful recipes and the ingredients are flown in from Thailand three times a week.
I highly recommended booking in advance as Farang’s reputation proceeds it and it is a popular, busy place.
If my review was helpful, please give me a thumbs up 👍🏼 Thanks!
R. C.
Amazing high quality thai street food. Packed full of flavour with great balance of salty, sour, sweet and spicy. Particularly impressed with the ability to make food actually spicy.
L. K.
On the cigarette littered streets of Highbury is nestled an unassuming haunt with an understated logo and frosted windows shrouded in mystery. I opened the door and was overwhelmed by the sweet smokey air and the fiery glow of an open kitchen.
Feeling energised by the excited chatter that bounced through the room, we ordered the 'feasting menu' - 5 small (NOT small at ALL) plates with Chili seabass and peppered prawns and crunchy kohlrabi rice so sweet and sticky I could tell of it was dinner or desert but hoped it was both (and breakfast too)
When all the cards are down and all hope is lost and you realise you're actually never going to be able to afford to buy a flat let alone have children and you wonder why you don't just sack it off and go live in an opium farm in cambodia, farang emerges as the Posiedon of South East Asian fusion atop a hot sauce ocean.

Great night, food was out of this world delicious. Nice atmosphere, staff very friendly (extra creds from this old punk for kitchen staff with Conflict t-shirt). Music was right up my street too, Jimi Hendix, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley. Don't miss out, have a desert, the Damson ice cream is amazing.
J. R.
Always delicious, well thought-out dishes with beautiful and rare herbal flavours and interesting combinations. Also an extra 🌟 for serving Beer Lao.
Edit: Beer Lao currently off (but waiter reassured it would be back) - food remains as good as ever.
Z.
Good food, some of which are interesting variations of traditional dishes (e.g. wanton). Very busy when we were there, so was undoubtedly very noisy.
Z. H.
A local restaurant that offers a more authentic and adventurous Thai experience with dishes that go beyond your traditional Thai menu. The food is tasty and can be spicy, which makes a change from the milder dishes often served in Thai restaurants for fear of the British aversion to heat. They also offer cooking courses. Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area and enjoy Asian food.
L. W.
I've not eaten yet at the restaurant but the shop items they have are great. Thai cardamon and coriander root are hard to find else where.
N. N.
Really good food and great cocktails. Rhubarb and custard doughnut was delicious. Will be back
J. A.
I’d love to give a little feedback on the Vietnamese coffee here - for £5 it was very disappointing. I could hardly taste the condensed milk and the texture was sandy and bitter. I know what it should taste like and it’s definitely not this! Please improve as everything else in the shop, including service, seems fantastic (hence the stars, I would give the coffee 0 stars though)
F. M.
Ordered take away for Saturday night which arrived bang on time and still hot. Everything arrived well wrapped and presented. Loved the crispy chicken for starters and the pork ribs were beautiful! Delivery fee is a bit pricey but for restaurant style take away it’s worth it.
i. v.
I got the veggie curry ready meal from Farang. It was super easy to heat up and felt like i was eating out again. Highly recommend the mango black rice too. Food is amazing and good value.
N. W.
Great food, with a twist not too much to make it fusion-y and not too little to make it too traditional. Would recommend the pork belly dish - amazing
K. K.
Love the way these guys turned their restaurant into an experience. You can now buy Thai ingredients you can't normally find in London as well as premade meals, sauces etc.
They gave me the chance to explore proper Thai. Not just a red/green curry.
N. G.
Had the Sunday Tasing Menu on 24/05/21. Fantastic service and a great menu!
From the fresh salads and the flavour bomb Miang to the deep, rich curries everything was delicious!
M. H.
Ridiculously tasty. Managed to swing a walk in and absolutely loved it. You need to try it!
c. k.
As always, amazing food. Had a sharing menu and the food was plentiful and delicious. We changed all our options to vegan and it didn't dissapoint.
J. B.
Some excellent Thai food. Really exceptional for the area. I did fine however there was a lack of variety in taste. Maybe it was the things I ordered? Seabass, pork belly, and veggie starter. All were delicious but fish sauce with something sweet seem to be the prevailing ingredients with various degrees of heat. Fairly limited wine list but did pair up well with the food. I’ll definitely be returning to try something else.
M. M.
Great dinner here - really exciting menu with innovative Thai style mixed with local ingredients. We had the feasting menu - huge amount of food to deal with, but many exquisite flavours and at a bargain price. Atmosphere v much local restaurant, but quality of cooking way higher. A place to return to again and again.
D. S.
Every dish we ordered was outstanding. The chilli beef and the whole snapper were amazing. The red sauce they serve is so good I had to get a top up. The chef came over and chatted to us and with other guests. Charismatic guy. Apparently it was an Italian restaurant for 20 odd years with the family and they changed over to Thai cuisine about 3 years ago and it has been a hit ever since. I think of all the aspects of this restaurant, the way every member of the team serves with genuine warmth is remarkable. I will make it a point to return to this place every time I am back in London.
Wonderful experience and very highly recommend. Easily one of the best restaurants we have experienced in this trip
L. V.
Really amazing food. I didn't think I was a Thai food fan but the menu looked great so some friends and I went last night. All the food was exceptional. I especially loved the prawn starter - so fresh and delicious! and the chilli beef. The pork belly was wonderful too. I really enjoyed my meal and the fact that it was reasonably priced and that it wasn't too noisy or hectic as lots of trendy London restaurants can be. Highly recommend.
C. H.
My favourite Thai - so delicious! And doing takeaway/delivery during lockdown (call or email to book a slot). Everything has such huge, complex flavours it’s hard to pick a favourite but the massaman curry is gorgeous and I always look forward to their som tam salad for it’s refreshing heat. Also obsessed by the burnt chilli dipping sauce.
L. C.
Incredible food, will go back again ASAP!
Everything we ordered was of the highest quality and had the most amazing flavours.
The menu changes often but we ordered a few side plates and a couple of mains to share and were blown away by everything. Particularly impressed by the chicken small plate and the curried noodle main.
We also had some very tasty cocktails.
The service we received was impeccable.
The only downside being that we asked if the waiters get the tips and they said they don't - so be careful and maybe put a tip in cash.
C. C.
Fantastic Thai food with an amazing menu and super tasty flavours. Some really spicy dishes, but fairly clear which ones they are so it's not a surprise. Not super expensive either so would go back in a heartbeat. Only downside was a limited choice of beer, and no alcohol-free beers.
L. R.
Had a wonderful meal here for my birthday last night. Everything was delicious. We particularly liked the whole sea bass, prawn yellow curry and prawn in betel leaves, but the consistency was really high across the board. Nice staff, good wine list (the Riesling went very well with the spicy food) - highly recommended.
M. W.
Easily one of my top 3 restaurants in London (still unsure what the other 2 would be!). The food is absolutely amazing, always fresh and different each time we go there.
J. M.
Had been recommended and was not disappointed. We opted for the hot collect....it was freshly made, hot temperature and chilli...very tasty, different and good portion sizes. The restaurant is now a shop...good place to go and pick up cool your own.
P. W.
I ordered their tapa dish and it was so yummy! I also tried their super spicy thai soup and it lived up to its name. I love spicy foods so it's okay with me. I craved more of it
S. B.
Inventive and carefully crafted menu but ultimately overdone in my view. Very hard to identify flavours when there’s too many of them. I prefer simpler combinations with no more than 3 or so star ingredients, but that might be me. Some dishes too saturated in oil (banana salad). Service was good. Would come back but only for the simpler dishes which were yummy.
I. B.
Mixed feelings - took a vegan pad Thai and 2 servings of the jackfruit massaman curry. At 13.5 pounds per serving for takeaway would expect something quite good. The pad thai was tasty and no complaints there. However the jackfruit massman curry was low on flavour and neither portions had any jackfruit whatsoever in it. We felt that at that price to miss out a main ingredient is poor service. Could be an honest mistake though. Otherwise decent.
A. B.
Had to book 2 weeks in advance so my expectations were high. Unfortunately I was very disappointed in the end product. Service was good but our waiter seemed not genuine. Food was Thai fusion, most dishes had fruit added and were overly sweet. I Understand this not a traditional Thai restaurant but flavours were mostly off and not balanced. Prices normal for London. Will not visit again.
M. G.
Amazing place. I won a free meal from Farang's collaboration with Yard Sale Pizza down the road. Service was perfect and friendly without being overbearing. We got to try the feasting menu. It was the best Thai food I have ever had with fresh and good quality ingredients. Excellent wine too. We will definitely be returning!
R. K.
Quite feasibly the best food I've ever had...
Came here for a belated birthday dinner with my family and were utterly blown away by the array of versatile, gorgeous dishes. Every one spectacular! Would 100% recommend to anyone who is a lover of Thai food. Lovely staff who cater to your every need and a brilliant owner Sebby, who took the time to explain the dishes to see what we'd all enjoy.
A wholly wonderful experience. P.s., if you don't enjoy spice... be wary!
M. K.
One of the best Thai places I have visited in London so far, excellent food, authentic and spicy as it should be. No wonder it is always busy so advance booking recommended. Thai wines are definitely worth a try. I will definitely be back!
M. F.
This is really a super restaurant. Truly excellent food, great service and a nice atmosphere. If you enjoy Thai food then it is a must.
V. A.
Went there with better half for Sunday lunch. We got recommendation on food and drink for quantity and combination from the helpful waiter.
Food was obviously from fresh ingredients and were cooked as it should have. Result was delicious hearty Thai food.
Note: when they say salad is hot it means it is hot hot hot.
J. G.
I'd heard great things about this place. The food was delicious however it was probably a bit too spicy for mine and my friend's palates, so in some instances it was a bit of a struggle getting through the food and we had to repeatedly get our water jug refilled. I appreciate that spicy food is the Thai way so perhaps the choice to go was a poor one on our behalf. Staff weren't great. We ordered the feasting menu and no one really explained how it worked, we didn't know which were sharing dishes and which were personal ones, there was no explanation as to what the dishes were. Most of the staff didn't care much about us at all. Worth trying, but only if you can handle the heat.
L. H.
A little out of the way, but well worth the visit. It's a multiple small dishes for sharing type place, and the food is really lovely - unusual Thai food, rather than the expected pad thai and noodles. Everything we had was delicious, but the chicken pieces and lamb shoulder were particularly excellent. Warning: the 'jungle curry' is hot!
M. B.
Not your typical Thai restaurant, so don’t expect pad thai or satay chicken. And yet I have to say this is the best Thai I ever had. Dishes are revisited by the brilliant English chef in a very inspired way and produce is of the finest quality. This awesome food would deserve some contemplation and the room is a bit too noisy. But such an amazing food definitely deserves the five stars!!!
T. C.
Travelled from Chingford to visit this restaurant as I heard so much about it online and wanted to give it a try, so happy I did as I rate this restaurant 5 stars. Best Thai restaurant I have found. When I went to visit the restaurant I ordered a takeaway, staff where very welcoming and asked me would you like to sit down. They then offered me a crispy kale with a chilli sauce dip. My son was in heaven and would love to have it again. Whilst waiting we ordered a strawberry, lemongrass sorbet, nicely presented. I’ve had a lot of sorbet but wasn’t as good as this was the best. Farang have spoilt me with taste sensation.
They have opened my eyes to a different take on Thai food. I rate this restaurant 5 stars.
P. P.
Had lunch there, the food was good overall and the staff were friendly enough. However, the spring rolls were not nice in my opinion as well as the beef cheeks which were quite tasteless.
The venison, crispy chicken were delightful.
I. O.
I go to this special place from time to time because I like the special air that is unique to this place. The staff is highly cordial and well trained. The service is impressively fast. Most important, the food you eat is first-rate. I ate there often and I was never disappointed. The expense is honest. I highly recommend this restaurant to my friends and family.
M. S.
Loved the food and the staff were very friendly and helpful. A lot of passion goes into this food. Really good size portions and not at all your “standard” Thai offering. Highly recommended.
N. B.
Went there for my bday and probably won’t return! The salmon vermicelli was weird! Food was not bad but felt like it was hit and miss for many dishes.
FYI: I am Thai so I know how its suppose to taste but I know they are trying to be inventive but it doesn’t work in most cases (sorry!)
I do welcome the idea of fusion or inventive Thai cuisine
H. K.
Fantastic takeaway from Farang last night. We had a really delicious prawn and coconut curry. The roti was a perfect accompaniment. The real highlight was the exceptional pandan ice cream with billionaire shortbread! Would really recommend.
L. L.
A really lovely place. Friendly, helpful staff and lovely decor. The menu is really limited though and if, like me, you can't have fried food or hot curries there are very few options... actually, none. There wasn't a single thing on the menu I could order. My friends enjoyed their food though.
B. M.
Outstanding, amazing, mouth watering, unbelievable tasty, simply best food ever.
I’m a regular customer from day one and can just say that its going strength to strength. Service is always friendly and accommodating. Food is always outstanding. YES it isn’t necessarily authentic thai food but that’s not the owners aim and this is good so.
Keep on going guys.

Had an absolutely brilliant night at Farang. Been to Thailand many times and have eaten in some fabulous restaurants and this compares to the very best I’ve experienced. The flavours were unbelievable!! Service and atmosphere were 1st Class. It was a friend’s 60th birthday and owner Sebbie and his team made it truly memorable. Visited because of the great reviews Farang has been receiving but kept an open mind for fear of being disappointed, my group of friends and I were certainly not! It was my 1st time in the restaurant but I will certainly be returning again very soon. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough!!
E. F.
The food here is the sort that a restaurant critic would say slaps you around the chops. Big, bold flavours of fresh ingredients. If you don't do spicy you'd be advised to request they dial it down a bit, which the friendly staff will be happy to do. The som tam is not the spiciest I've ever had (it can be a real monster) but it has a great depth of flavour.
Only criticisms: prices pretty high (60 quid for one big plate, three small plates, rice and bread and just a beer and a coke) and it gets very noisy when busy, which it normally is because it's good!
D. M.
Such delicious food, you really can't go wrong as everything on the menu is delightful. Good options for vegetarians and carnivores alike. Book ahead for popular times so you don't get disappointed!
C. H.
My favourite Thai - so delicious! And doing takeaway/delivery during lockdown (call or email to book a slot). Everything has such huge, complex flavours it’s hard to pick a favourite but the massaman curry is gorgeous and I always look …

The food was amazing. Did not expect the food to be as good as it was. Service was excellent. Can't wait till my next visit

We'd heard a lot about this place and were thoroughly impressed with the meal we had here.
Really interesting menu that I just can't really compare to anywhere I've been before which is really refreshing.
Helpful service and a nice atmosphere.
Reasonably priced for London.

Such amazing flavours! One of the best Thai restaurants in London!
G. G. L.
Absolutely incredible food, all of it was wonderful. Warning: hard floors + furniture means it gets loud very quickly, but the food more than makes up for it. Try the black rice pudding for the best rice pudding I've ever had.
A. P.
Great selection of Thai food and ingredients
D. S.
Amazing food, excellent service! We have even got an umbrella as a gift for our way home when the rain started chucking down! Definitely will go back. Again. And again. And again.
D. N.
What an amazing food, definitely the best I’ve had outside Thailand. For sure worth trying. You can clearly taste the freshness of the ingredients. The Curry’s taste is very well balanced. Just loved it!
W. N.
Fusion Thai food, made beautifully and the flavours are adventurous. Would definitely recommend going as you would leave with a smile :D
B. V.
Incredible food with great service. Expect punchy flavours with innovative but not over the top dishes, and friendly front of house. We had a minor issue with one starter that was dealt with quickly and professionally, and we are already looking forward to going back.

Wow, just wow. Beautifully presented and delicious. Really loved the tapas style menu and the service is just great. Slightly on the pricey side but left with a very full belly. Definitely recommend!
R. C.
One of my favourite restaurants in all of London. The beef shin in particular is one of the best things in the world - if you can't get a table then go and collect it for takeout, it's almost as good. Proper proper flavour in everything they serve.
H. S.
Absolutely delicious food - lots of great options for vegetarians and vegans. Particularly loved the vegetarian massaman curry. Will be coming back here soon!
A. B.
Had to book 2 weeks in advance so my expectations were high. Unfortunately I was very disappointed in the end product. Service was good but our waiter seemed not genuine. Food was Thai fusion, most dishes had fruit added and were overly …
R. B.
TL/DR: Nice atmosphere, inconsistent service, mostly average food with few standout flavours.
As no strangers to east asian food, we had high hopes for this local restaurant.
When I arrived I found myself being briefed on the menu before I had removed my coat or even sat down. A little space to sit and greet my companion first would have been nice.
Shamefully, we fell into the trap of ordering the small feasting menu, which provides little value for money and way too much food for the average human. However, it does mean that we got to try most of the menu.
The 'Gai prik', was so lethally hot (even without the spicy sauce) that it would be inedible and unpleasant for most people. I have a high tolerence for chili and found it to be well cooked but needlessly hot and salty. Either they made a mistake in the preparation or this warrants a warning on the menu.
The 'Miang' was quite unmemorable apart from the stickyness. If there were any subtle flavors, I may have missed them after the chili assault of the previous dish.
The cured salmon was ok, but small and nothing spectacular.
I would recommend the 'Som tam' salad and the chili jam soup. The soup was probably my favorite dish of the evening.
The main dishes of beef cheeks and seabass green curry had good quality ingredients and were good if not spectacular. Perhaps we were just suffering from food fatigue at this point.
The sticky rice desert was indulgent and worth recommending, but not the cherry granita, which was too sweet for me.
At least twice we were interrupted by food arriving and then being quickly removed as it was destined for another table. Also, between courses, it would be nice if someone could clean the table.
For me, Farang didn't deliver on expectations. There were few dishes I really enjoyed and I felt there was a lack of consistency and authenticity.
R. H.
Absolutely out of this world! Every dish was exceptional, as was the service and the cocktails. Highlights included the succulent and spicy pork belly and watermelon salad, the creamy lobster Lon, and some amazing pandan ice cream. We will definitely be back!
R. C.
This was my 2nd visit and the food does not disappoint! Staff are very friendly too. The only thing we would say is that there was a 20 minute wait between finishing our first 2 dishes and waiting for the other 2 dishes. Also our rice went cold because of this but they did exchange it for new rice upon request. The food most importantly is great quality. They make their own pastes and their curries are the most authentic I've had. Will definitely be coming back!
T. M.
I've been to Thailand many times, tried a multitude of Thai street food. Know locals etc...Ordered a prawn curry that was way too hot it became in edible. Shame as the flavours were great, ordered Papaya salad, ok but not the greatest i've tasted. Service is ok not great....a nice restaurant but not the best Thai food i've tasted as some reviewers claim....
K.
We'd heard a lot about this place and were thoroughly impressed with the meal we had here. …
T. C.
Brilliant experience at Farang London! The staff were really friendly and the service was brilliant. All the staff were very attentive and helpful even with a fully packed restaurant. The food was delicious, I am new to thai food but am now convetted. Big portions for a very reasonable price and the cocktails/wines complimented all the food really well. I would definitely recommend this place.
S. I.
Fun neighbourhood restaurant, really busy after 7. Punchy flavours and lots of heat and spice. The only down is the small tables meant for Italian food don't fit the multiple dishes of street food. Bowls to eat out of for dishes served in big bowls with thin sauces rather than plates would also really help.
R. B.
The best Thai food in London and great staff
A. D.
Fantastic Thai pop up. We had the special Christmas menu and it was mostly excellent, the beef especially was incredible.
Reasonable price as well - 10 dishes at £45pp.
A. H.
this is bold authentic local venture which deserves to succeed because its good. Here's the longer version. The space is an ex-Italian restaurant in Highbury (just south of Finsbury Park). Farang's inspiration is Seb Holmes who has a long pedigree at various other Thai restaurants and they run a few stalls as part of StreetFood but this restaurant residency is for 6 months. Now for the food & menu. The menu is short which is good - four or so small plates (from memory approx £7) and approx the same number of bigger plates (approx £15). Ordered Miang bites (fabulous explosion of fiery flavours on a leaf), Half Spring Chicken and Curry Braised Beef Cheeks. The large plates were v healthy portions consistent with the pricing. All the food was super tasty. Service was smooth which I wasnt expecting early on in this residency. Lots of cocktail choices but I didnt have any. Open times are Wed-Sat from 5.30pm and Sun 1pm. Go support this outfit as the Thai cooking is very good.
T. A.
Phenomenal twist on Thai classics. Having lived in south east Asia for a while, it's really nice to find places like this in London that are well and truly going beyond the 'green curry' approach to the region's wonderfully diverse food. They also do an excellent green curry for the record!
H. F.
'Pop up' Thai (although the waiter told us they have signed a 10y lease so a bit more permanent now). Sensational flavours. Sharing plates but large portions so be conservative! Bit spicy for those who are averse to that.
Had the miang bites (delicious piles of food in a leaf, three sets), pork belly with cubes of pumpkin (in delicious sweet dark brown sauce), the fish special (crispy haddock), red curry of half spring chicken & tiger prawns. Sauce for the fish and chicken were finger-licking good. Sides of sticky rice (good) and roti (greasy and not ideal for mopping up the delicious sauces). Shared two desserts, the granita (pineapple & something else) and black sticky rice with tamarind and banana. Granita really refreshing. Both very sweet, but thankfully smaller portions.
Service very good, decor nothing to write home about, but really the food was the star of the show. Will definitely be back to eat some of the other dishes!
D. B.
Consistently excellent food - feels like you are actually eating in Thailand. Highly recommend
D. M.
Such delicious food, you really can't go wrong as everything on the menu is delightful. Good options for vegetarians and carnivores alike. Book ahead for popular times so you don't get disappointed!
O. M.
Thought the food was fantastic. Not your average pun kitchen Thai food. Care and attention was obviously put into the meals. Service was so so, otherwise this is no doubt a 5 star meal.
J. Y.
Update: I did not dine at the restaurant due to a technical issue with Opentable resulting in my reservation being cancelled. Staff from the restaurant has been extremely helpful and called me immediately after I left the review and explained the situation. The problem seems to be with Opentable but not the restaurant. Top notch customer service I have to say! I have made alternative arrangement when I got the cancellation from Opentable therefore unable to make it this time but will definitely come back another time to try their food! I would recommend diner to book directly with the restaurant to avoid complication though

St. David's Day at Farang - an excellent experience. It was a Wednesday night in Highbury with no football but Farang was more-or-less full all evening: something must be going well here! Mostly young people engaged in high energy chatter in subdued lighting against a gentle musical background. The menu is not too long but combines small and large plates, a wide variety of Thai dishes and flavours and the culinary distinction for which Seb Holmes has gained a London-wide reputation. The staff are friendly and attentive but also patient as we debated the optimum selection. There were four of us ordering about three dishes each and very quickly the table was full of sharing plates and we were using the window sill as overflow for the empties. We also tried what became two bottles of the Thai wine. The total bill was about £90 including service: pretty good value for Islington. Farang is a great addition to the local scene: long may it live here!
R. C.
Disappointing. Had the 8 course set menus. Left very full but only a few dishes were really great. Most just ok. Some were far too sweet. Generally not enough chilli heat to them either. Also far too few wait staff, so a long time between dishes at some points. Not up to the high reviews I had read.
S. C.
Wow, just wow. Beautifully presented and delicious. Really loved the tapas style menu and the service is just great. Slightly on the pricey side but left with a very full belly. Definitely recommend!
A. V.
Closest thing to real thai food we've had in London. Small menu, greatly executed. They have interesting specials. I ordered to go and it was neatly packed.
K. C.
My favourite Thai restaurant!! I live south but I come here everytime I can as the food is outstanding. If you like spicy food this is your place
S. D.
Great range of cocktails and a really exciting menu with lots on offer! Portions are large, so order sparingly. Staff are nice and knowledgeable about the menu. Booking in advance is an absolute must!
H. K.
Very fresh ingredients (the herbs, specifically, are delicious), friendly service, but also strangely unorganized. There does not seem to be any system as to who is responsible for what.
What really bugged me, however, is that nearly all dishes are sweetened.
H. S.
Absolutely delicious food - lots of great options for vegetarians and vegans. Particularly loved the vegetarian massaman curry. Will be coming back here soon!
A. C.
Friendly staff, delicious creative dishes, speedy service. Portions are big, 1 large dish and a small dish to share is more than enough for two people. The pandan custard is really something special.
I really hope this 'pop-up' becomes a permenant fixture in the Highbury community, we've been there twice already this week!
D. S.
Amazing food, excellent service! We have even got an umbrella as a gift for our way home when the rain started chucking down! Definitely will go back. Again. And again. And again.
K. M.
Vegetarian options merely mediocre but friends were enjoying the chicken dish. Hard upselling waiter will probably make you order more than you can eat.
Y. G.
Had the takeaway dinner. Menu was fun and innovative, curries were spectacular. Will definitely return
S. U.
OMG Best food ever! Restaurant acoustic is not good, you can't really have a conversation but the food is like an explosion of incredible tastes so 5 stars are deserved.
M. K.
Farang is a must visit if you are in London, the food is spectacular with a menu that changes periodically which is a real treat. The staff are great & do well to make you feel welcome
A. T. S.
The best Thai experience ever I had, I been in Kiln, the begging bowl, smoking goat and any of them offer the quality and the service than in Farang. Highly recommended
W. N.
Fusion Thai food, made beautifully and the flavours are adventurous. Would definitely recommend going as you would leave with a smile :D
K. O.
Great atmosphere , friendly and efficient staff and all the dishes served up were exquisite .
Thanks to Seb , Dan and all the staff at Farang for a wonderful evening .
Will be returning soon to share this experience with family and friends .
G. G.
Very nice food, although I expected it to have a bit more of a kick, don't know if they turned the heat down to try and please farang palate, but definitely not as spicy as expected.
A. A.
Incredible place. Menu always innovative, and you have 100% confidence that everything is delicious. Beware most dishes (perfectly) spicy
M. F.
The food is undeniably brilliant, it’s fresh, delicious and creative. However the service is dreadful, the staff are rushed and almost disingenuous. Definitely worth going to try the food but don’t expect much in the way of customer service.
S. T.
Fantastic food, great service.
S. H.
Stunning thai food. Ate the tasting menu - huge amount of food, all delicious and full of zest, flavour and spice.
K. L.
Amazing and different Thai food, like nothing have tasted before at other Thai restaurants and was soooo good! Betel leaf parcels and the ox cheek curry were the highlights.
M. G.
Fantastic food. Not cheap, but a taste sensation.
Friday night was very busy, downside was we all found it difficult to hear each other.
J. B.
Some of the tastiest Thai food I have ever had in London. This place really is a gem, great food and delicious cocktails.
S. A.
The jungle curry with turmeric bread is the best combination. Not recommend for the faint hearted. Very hot and spicy dish.
H. R.
Best Thai I've had outside Thailand. The 'Feast' tasting menu was original and superb.
B. J.

Honesty and a genuine desire to be inventive are the hallmarks here. Verve and knowledge, in the kitchen and front of house, deserve a 5 star review. Keep it up!
