Reviews of Flat Three Restaurant

For a high end fine dining experience, Flat 3 in Notting Hill have a seasonal 5 course vegan tasting menu along with an impressive wine and sake list.
The menu is inspired by the flavours of Korea and Japan, using fresh British produce and foraged goods. On this occasion (during October) that was some inventive dishes including golden beetroot, mushrooms, peas and broad beans.
Each serving is delicately and creatively presented and every component of it thoroughly explained in exquisite detail. Both Juliana and Katherine are extremely knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about the food and wine.
A memorable and unique experience in all and one we’ve labelled as one of our all time favourites

Intimate location, essential and very well cared for, a place where you feel pampered both by the incredibly attentive, professional and welcoming staff and by the works of the chefs, the result of innovative combinations based on raw materials of the highest quality.
In the dining room we find the kitchen without any kind of barrier so we can appreciate the impeccable professionalism of the chefs, a show that keeps you company all evening.
The sommelier was exhaustive in displaying the wine cellar of the restaurant and in recommending an appropriate wine according to the courses.
Throughout the evening I noticed only a small but annoying problem, all the glasses had halos and light stains, which has absolutely nothing to do with cleanliness but with wear.
In conclusion I thank all the staff, recommended for those who want to experience new and delicate tastes.

Excellent service, everyone was extremely friendly and had some great sake recommendations. The sweet umeshu dessert sake & the brown butter cake were the highlights of the meal for sure! Don’t skip out on the mochi flatbread too, or the enoki mushrooms. Would come back for sure!

The best Vegan Friendly Michelin Star Restaurant.
Thank you for a magical dining experience.
My partner and I are vegans, and unfortunately, still, it's not so easy to find high-end vegan cuisine. Your place is the first Michelin star restaurant where we could enjoy our dinner to the fullest!
With confidence, we can rate all dishes 5 out of 5. We went for one 5-dish tasting menu and added a few more vegan dishes from A la carte. In the pictures, you can see an exceptional presentation served elegantly by Catherine - a very friendly and caring waitress.
What was remarkable is a beautiful combination of Asian inspired flavours and vegetables & tofu. I never tried anything like this—definitely a unique experience.
Your place is a benchmark for other upscale restaurants across the world.

I was never a fan of Asian fusion cuisines, from my past experience it's usually just putting some random Asian-ish ingredients into a common dish and calling it a day. I'm extremely excited to share with you, Flat Three is nothing like that. It has far exceed my expectation and it's one of the most memorable dining experience I've had in a while. The dishes and the wine/sake paired with them were just spot on.
Can't wait to visit again soon!
Here are the dishes I had for that evening:
- Appetiser: Mushroom puree with Japanese vinegar-onion salad dressing on a crispy tart-like cookie base, served with raw mushroom slices on top of it. Thought the raw mushroom would be too earthy in terms of the flavour, but to my surprise it actually wasn't the case. The puree balanced that out perfectly and they were sliced so thin that provides a crunchy texture.
- Wild sea bass tartare, fennel + rhubarb kimchi: Kimchi brings a good amount of sourness into the dish and counters any potential fishy flavour the sea bass tartare could have. The wine paired with it (unfortunately I can't remember) did an amazing job smoothed out any sourness in my mouth and throat. Meanwhile the sea bass and kimchi were diced into similar if not identical size, which creates a harmonic texture in the mouth. It's just impressive.
- Japanese aubergine, shungiku + featherblade sauce: The slice of roasted beef on top of it was really tasty with its charred flavour. The Japanese sauce that come with it added an extra layer to its already rich flavour without overwhelming taste buds. I also like how the aubergine was cooked. However I'd say, this is the only dish of the night I felt like a bit of a misfire. I get the idea of having the juicy aubergine complement the dry beef slice, but IMHO they just don't blend well with each other, despite both being beautifully done.
- Courgette, beefsteak fungus + buckwheat: They really nailed the courgette: it's crunchy and juicy at the same time. The plum sauce with perilla leaves works extremely well with the courgette. Buckwheat is well cooked, though I'd prefer slightly more layers to the sauce that come with it. It's just a bit flat with only the sourness.
- Scottish salmon, oxheart tomato + roasted yeast: I just can't tell you how much I love this dish. The salmon was just exceptional. I'm guessing it probably has been roasted in a lower temperature to keep its tenderness and then pan-friend under a high heat for the burnt flavour. But mate, you can taste the muscle fibre of the fish at the surface, but the inside of the fillet has this almost sashimi-like jelly texture, blended with the fat of the fish. The fillet itself really wasn't too oily at all, but the creamy sauce makes sure of it. Oxheart tomatoes on the side was pickled in the Japanese way, bringing the sourness down and added some sweetness to it.
- Fig leaf cake, caramelised figs + milk ice cream: What can I say, I love fig leaf cake! The milk ice cream had this apparent grassy flavour to it which I'm not a big fan of though.

I've just found out this favourite restaurant of mine is closing.
A meal at Flat Three is always something I've looked forward to as a special treat. Everything here is studied, with complete understatement, and Japanese levels of perfection. Service is warm and passionate. The sake list is fun and the staff extremely knowledgeable.
Don't even get me started about how cool the owner is.
Oh - yes, the food: it's interesting, delicious, well-crafted, educational (always a fun ingredient or two I've never heard of) and doesn't feel at all overbearing or pretentious.
Value is totally unbeatable at this level of attention to detail.

How could I not have reviewed this place before!!!!

Unique and top notch culinary experience. The creative and spot-on combination of high quality ingredients and flavours is amazing. Greater emphasis on vegetarian and fish might not be to everybody's taste but it shouldn't stop even the more carnivorous eater to try. We tried the 5 course menu which was well worthy the price in our opinion given other similar experiences in other restaurants in London. We have read some reviews (a small minority) criticising portions (unfair) and flavours (I sense there is a slight misconception here - texture was similar but flavours were completely different and inspiring ..... unless you dont have a developed palate) and we dont agree whatsoever. Please note that the menu also changes almost on a daily basis and it is always season-driven. Service was very helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without being overwhelming. The only area where some adjustments might be considered for the broader customer base is the wine - even though, on one side, the wine list has very high quality producers (the Spanish and Italian vineyards are top notch and not easily found in other restaurants in London), the cost of a relatively small wine by the glass is very high (it might be a function also of the alcohol tax changes and Brexit but again it took us a bit aback) and there are very few options at affordable levels. Overall, a fantastic restaurant where we will go back regularly. Bravi !

The food was good but the menu is a bit narrow. It would be good to have some more options. The service from the food waitress was friendly, but the sommelier lady was not. Especially at the start of the meal she acted like it was an inconvenience to tell us about the cocktails and about the sake. No smile, no welcome, she just left the menus and walked off. As she was walking away we asked whether they make espresso martini and she just said "we only have the cocktails on the menu". With the simple ingredients of this cocktail (coffee, vodka and coffee liqueur), and with this being a Michelin star establishment, we expected at least that she would say something like "let me check if we can make it" instead of flatly refusing. Anyway, we enjoyed the enoki mushroom and the kimchi bread, and the desserts were very good also. But not getting good service in a Michelin star place puts a cloud on the experience and we won't be going back. Which is a pity because we live in the area.
N. M.
Outstanding food with fun ingredients often seasonal based. Great techniques for preparing the food. Excellent service from the staff. Great cocktails. Great wineglasses(zalto)/plates. One of the best fine dining experiences in a long time in terms of quality.
However, if there something they could improve then it would be the menu which isn't very informative. They should also serve more dishes or make them larger. I could easily eat the whole menu again without a problem and I can't imagine how you would be satisfied if you go for the three course dinner. Still a fantastic experience.

We visited Flat Three for our 8-year anniversary. Service was top notch. One of the best I've had (and I've been to Michelin rated places). Food was out of this world. We had 2x 5-course menus, covering all of the vegan dishes between us. We also had the wine & non-alcoholic pairings. We made it fairly complicated for the staff, but they handled it amazingly and it went without a hitch. The wine was fantastic, and the information given upon presentation was very good. The non-alcoholic pairing was so delicious, would definitely go back just for those! The best thing for me would be the sauces. I don't react well to overly rich sauces, but these were so full delicate flavours, and not just overdone with 1 flavour. The atmosphere was reserved and polite, music was gentle and bathrooms had a luxurious feel. We definitely will be back every time the menu changes! 10/10 would recommend.

Fortune & fame reside in this very trendy & upmarket location. Lucky enough to have family nearby, so Castle Pub is often attended by three generations of hearty foodies.

Amazing experience. If your looking for a dinning wonder Flat Three is the place. I booked through open table and requested seating for two and that I was on a date. I was seated in a wonderful cave that was romantic and cozy. The decor was simple and exquisite at the same time. A touch of minimalism with high end service. The food was impecable. The fusion between Korean and Japanese with ingredients from the UK demands an audience. I am vegan and they had enough choices on the 3 course meal or the 5 course meal to leave me in awe. The food was delicious, wonderful, and I'm sure I will be dinning there again. I even went back the next day with my family to share this excellent dinning experience. When my brother ordered the lamb, which was sous vide prepared, he told me that it melted in his mouth, a perfect medium rare, with specialty tiny anchovies on top. Just magnificent. I of course enjoyed the aubergine plate twice in a row. Yum
Their premium wine pairing was amazing, and I loved the fact that they had a non alcoholic pairing with the incredible food.
R. P.
We found this place had really intriguing flavours all wonderfully presented and reasonably priced. The staff are really accommodating and went out of their way for us. The dishes were tasty just not amazing. Place had no ambience either. Was good. Just not great for us. Worth a try though.

A welcome change from Italian, French and English cuisine, Flat Three offers a fusion of Scandì, Japanese, Korean and new world food. The ingredients are carefully sourced from local producers and follow the seasons. The taste sensations created are unique and delicious and beautifully presented. The glassware, Scandinavian furniture and handmade plates and dishes create a relaxing but upmarket ambiance. The service is attentive and professional and what a pleasure it is to view the open kitchen. A special place hidden below street level, but worth the visit to find this gem.
J. C.
Absolutely incredible vegan tasting menu! The ambiance was lovely, the staff friendly, and the food divine! Everything was absolutely packed with flavour; the crispy artichokes with miso purée, and grilled beans on set tofu with marigold oil were particular favourites. Would also recommend the kombucha and gin cocktail!
For £65 for the tasting menu, it’s remarkable value for a seriously Michelin starred experience. Will definitely be back!
P. J.
This is "trying to be different food" pushed to the extreme. Sometime it works, their mushrooms was good, sometimes it is awful. This is the first time in my life I don't finish an ice cream because of taste: this one tasted like grass clippings ice cream. Don't know how this could be on their menu.
Good dark beer.
Skip it and get decent food elsewhere. We were so hungry at the end of the meal I begged for a side of French fries, but of course this is below their level and they didn't have!

The food is amazing and the service is quite fantastic. My English is not good, the waiters were very kindly ,they explain all the things. And my sisiter and I stayed until 23:30 I was so sorry about this because it's too late we didn't aware that but the waiters were so friendly. They just waited.
Absolutly I will go to this resturant again.

We have been three times and can confirm this place a total gem. The food is so unique and absolutely delicious. I am vegetarian and I have to say I'm yet to have a better meal out (even at an exclusively Vegetarian restaurant).
We have been lucky enough to be served by the owner every time we have dined here. The last time we went, we surrendered ourselves to her superior taste/knowledge. She paired each course with the most exquisite wines that I never would have known about or thought to order myself.
I cannot wait for restaurants to reopen so that we can go back! Do yourself a favour and pick Flat Three for your next special meal out!

4.5 stars on taste, food presentation and atmosphere. The manager is tough, in a good way - she makes sure the staff get job done and provided great service

Delightful meal, very creative take on vegetable dishes. Wine pairing was outstanding

Absolutely amazing experience! Would highly recommend to go for the tasting menu as you get to try many different dishes. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff looking after and most importantly extremely delicious dishes!

Good dishes, well service. Inspired by Japanese food. The price may not be very reasonable.

Great food - great service. Really hidden gem of a local West London restaurant. Inspired by Japanese / Korean flavours with English seasonal produce. (Jerusalem artichokes, pumpkin, wild sea bass, celeriac all part of the menu this week). Tasting menu was excellent, super wine list and sake selection.

Excellent food, and very well executed. A quiet and unassuming restaurant nestled next to Holland Park. The Mochi flatbread was a particular standout. Only downside was it was very quiet inside and could do with a bit of character but this was admittedly just after lockdown so perhaps not as busy as usual. Service was also very good.
C. T.
I had been recommended them as the best Vegan Restaurant in Notting Hill and my friends weren’t wrong.
I personally enjoyed a variety of non-vegan dishes too, we had two plant-based eaters and one friend who is celiac.
Now for the wine... they had one of the most impressive selections of Californian wines I have seen in London and have an upcoming event soon which I am hoping to attend.
A hidden gem and unmissable if you love your fine wines! 🍷
I. C.
A hidden gem in Holland Park. The food is inventive and the depth of flavour is seriously impressive. Decor is a subtle but modern nod to the Japanese fusion cuisine served. Inventive dishes, lots of foraged and home brewed ingredients, a huge selection of wines.... this a fantastic restaurant for discerning foodies or a special occasion.

Wow!! Absolutely delicious vegan food!! I have just recently gotten on the vegan lifestyle and was recommended Flat Three and I must say this may be by far the best vegan restaurant I have come across. Not to mention their curated drinks are honestly something out of the world. Service was really good too. Everything was to die for, I would 100% recommend this to any fellow Vegan people and even those of you who aren't, they have something for everyone. Definitely worth the money.

Delicious food and great service! Always wanted to visit and decided to finally treat ourselves post Lockdown for a special occasion! The set lunch on a Friday is incredible value for money and the seabass à la carte is stunning! Would highly recommend!

This was a wonderful place. I would pay 3x the amount for this quality of dinner and wine in Los Angeles. What a culinary adventure. Fresh, local, lovely. I went by myself as my husband was doing business in London. Lovely surroundings. Very nicely decorated. Staff made me feel very comfortable dining by myself. I was stuffed by my fourth course, and I love to eat! Did the premium wine tasting and the sommelier was fabulous. A real culinary adventure. My best meal in London this week ( day 5)! Might go back again tomorrow night and try other items on the menu. Beautiful artworks

Simply the best. A total hidden gem, which only a few seem to know about. Just wish open for lunch on Thursdays as well as Fridays and Saturdays. Food is exceptional.

Went for a meal last Saturday night and tried the Chef's pairings menu. It was absolutely fantastic. Each course may have been small but by the end of the meal I was more than satisfied.
The wine and drinks were perfectly selected for each course, and the staff were extremely polite and helpful in explaining the Chef's choice for each pairing.
The atmosphere was extremely relaxed and our waitress was so attentive that the whole experience was a seamless delight.
S. B.
The most amazing food I have ever eaten! I've had many Michelin rated meals, and the flavours and experience at Flat Three were incredible. The menu is interesting, and I didn't always know what the dishes would taste like - but course after course arrived and was SPECTACULAR! If you have a chance, definitely go and enjoy Juliana's hospitality. You can see the passion of her team in every dish and every mouthful.
R. M.
We tried both the standard and vegetarian tasting menus and accompanied them with the recommended wines. Without exception we found the food and drink to be absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was good if a little on the quiet side (it was a Thursday). The level of quality and service was first rate and we will certainly be recommending Flat Three to all our foodie friends. It was a bit on the pricy side but as a treat for our first anniversary we felt it was money well spent.

Good service, amazing food and presentation. Lovely atmosphere. Thank you

The first clue to the experience this restaurant provides is the Narnia style entrance; a door which opens to a staircase that leads you down to a very tastefully presented room. You are greeted with a warm welcome and led to the table which immediately starts you talking. 'I have never seen such thin stems on a wine glass' we all exclaimed at the same time and spent a further few minutes discussing the quality of the glass, something which I have honestly never done before and I have been to plenty of fine dining restaurants. The menu is intriguing and could leave you feeling quite daunted except for the very knowledgeable waitress who takes you through every flavour and ingredient so that you are confident in what your choice will be. We all went for the 5 course taster menu, I told myself I could always eat again later if it didn't satisfy me and then ordered a bottle of wine from the very well stocked cellar, with help from the charming sommelier. The wine was poured and I congratulated her on the excellent choice and before I had put the glass down, there was my first course and here began the journey. Every dish was savoured, every dish was outstanding! We turned to each other and exclaimed this is an experience isn't it, its not just dinner. I had a dish which cuddled me, a dish which made my mouth zing, the main roe deer dish was simply delicious and the star of the show for me was the mochi flatbread which I haven't stopped thinking about since I left. Of course the food was the element which would bring me back, the best looking restaurant in the world can't make you come back if the food doesn't make the mark, but what was also remarkable was the open kitchen. Never has food been created in such a calm environment, this head chef does not feel the need to scream about his prowess, there are no calls of 'oui chef' ringing in your ear or the clash of pans and frenetic subordinates trying to impress the boss. No, this chef cooks, quietly, calmly and with a smile on his face. There is a camaraderie and obvious friendship and respect between the chefs in the kitchen. A charming young woman stands at the pass and plates your dish and I think that is what makes this place so different, you can taste the time that has gone into making it. Its not a frantic put together dish but a well thought out, well rehearsed and well put together meal. Oh and I didn't need to eat again, it was also very filling as good food is. I will definitely come again and again; Flat 3 is my new home from home.
R. H.
Food is so amazing. The perfect combination creates the best flavour with surprise.

5 star basement restaurant with good VEGAN options. Not had main meals here yet but been twice, had deserts on both occasions along with Sake for which they have plenty of options. My favourite is the warmed up Sake. Customer service is first class, nice inside.
Look fwd to trying the main meals, I can tell its of high standard 😎
10/01/2020
Return with family to have main meals.
Ok we had 3 starters, 3 main meals and 3 desserts along with a range of Sake...
Everything was superb! The bread was amazing, the beetreet starter dish was awesome, the pumpkin starter was delicious... I can go on... Just like to finalise the review by saying every dish was 10/10 including the dessert and the high standard Sake.
This is a brilliant restaurant with excellent customer service. Had a good chat with the owner a no of times, she is great along with all the staff. Hi 5 all round 😎
J. B.
Beautiful food, great service! A super interesting mix of cultures and influences in a very cool modern and minimalist setting with an open kitchen. The plates were very exciting and different without being crazy. The staff couldn't have been nicer and we've already booked our next visit.
T. D.
Breathtakingly delicate food and a waiter who was so passionate and knowledgeable about that food as to be inspirational. (He was also *extremely* good-looking.)
I particularly liked the story of how the staff at the restaurant noticed that a fig tree outside the restaurant was very pungent so they decided to produce oil from the tree's leaves, with which they infused slices of apple that we were given with the bill. It was a taste I have never had before and will never forget.
F. C.
Probably one of the best Japanese restaurant I have ever experienced. A great treat from start to finish (even desserts, the cardamome cake was delicious). Fancy “less is more” atmosphere. Not vibrant for sure (the service ends around 9.15pm..) but exceptional in terms of culinary discovery.
A. O.
Fabulous restaurant with outstanding food! We had the 9 course menu, selected by the chef and it was exquisite. Each dish was delicious, perfectly cooked and stunning to look at. We got the wine matching to go with it, which really enhanced the flavours of the food. Stand out dishes were the short rib and udon noodles and then the sorbet/coffee one for desert. Wait staff were delightful and very knowledgable, and there was no rush to leave once we'd finished. It's not cheap but as a treat a would highly recommend going here. I also love that it's quite hard to find and not cramped with people, you've got space to enjoy your meal and the whole dining experience. I would most definitely go back.
e. r. s.
Amazing restaurant in Holland Park with a variety of gluten free options!
I always find it hard to find a celiac friendly restaurant to dine with a friend who has a celiac allergy. The staff were super attentive and explained every dish.
Flat Three have an amazing selection of fine wines too, I’ll definitely be coming back!
R. G.
Small cosy restaurant with a menu different from the usual, where you can mix british with far east korean flavours and japanese sake. Never too crowded and you can view the kitchen from pretty much all the restaurant.
You could easily miss this, but it's a refined little place with a lovely staff. Worth a visit!
O. R.
What a unique experience! We went for the 5 course option which was reasonably priced at £59. Was with a vegetarian and it was great to see that the meat and veggie options were equally delicious.
Favourites included the complimentary mochi starter, the carrot, the short rib (oh my days, this just melted in your mouth) and the artichoke dessert.
The staff were extremely accommodating. We had tonnes of questions (about food that we had never heard of before) and I even made a cheeky request for an extra portion of the complimentary after meal special dish they had.
Would definitely go again.
Main criticism: I'm a big eater but I would say the 3 course meal wouldn't have been enough food, so I'm glad I went for the 5 course option.
M. B.
Interesting menu, with a lot of ingredients I didn't recognise. The cynical might call it needlessly obscurantist -- why use the Japanese word "nasu" instead of the serviceable English term "aubergine"?
We tried the 5 course tasting menu. Hits:
- Grilled Hispi cabbage (wonderful crispy yet watery texture, excitingly paired with elderberries)
- Almond cake (a beautifully textured dessert with classic flavours done to perfection)
- Sweet potato (? or maybe pumpkin) with tomato mole (excellent creamy texture of the vegetable, andthe rich smoky tomato flavour in the sauce give this dish a subtle kick)
Misses:
- Oyster with grilled wagyu fat (the wagyu felt like a bit of a gimmick here -- my oyster was tasty but the fat was an unwelcome, chewy distraction)
- Dexter beef rump (had a wonderful smokiness to the meat, but was a bit overcooked)
Their "Sleeping Beauty" Junmai Ginjo Sake from Miyazaki is absolutely gorgeous - highly recommended.
Overall I have to applaud the restaurant here for trying something a bit daring with their menu, even if the experience was not perfect. It's certainly somewhere I would consider trying again, particularly since they seem to rotate dishes semi-regularly.
M. K.
Outstanding. 7 course tasting menu for £69 is very, very good value. We had the chefs menu and the vegetarian menu and the vegetarian one had some really epic stuff on it (and I’m a big meat eater). We will definitely go back here. One of the best meals we’ve had in London.
K. S.
Portions were tiny, there was no extra little dishes that you would expect from a restaurant of this standard (except for 1 small warm rice cake to share between 2 people, felt rather mean - but there is no bread, so this was an equivalent - ?).
The flavours were OK, but that was it,, just OK, not exciting, as I would expect from a fusion cuisine.
Quite underwhelming.
P. P.
Really interesting restaurant, Japanese inspired Nordic food. Really enjoyed as it is simple fresh food with some interesting ingredients. Recommend to try the Chefs 7 tasting menu and don't go past the Tofu Sorbet with Wood ants ... fantastic experience
J. W.
Yesterday's return to "Flat Three" was as memorable as ever, both from gastronomic and service perspectives. The five-course tasting menu was sumptuously delicious, preceded by refreshing cocktails and accompanied by excellent wines: a red (the "Calusari" is exceptionally good value!) and dessert (the "Zeltinger Schlossberg" was a treat). Overall, a definite recommend. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
P. O.
I was looking forward to visiting Flat Three as friends had told me it was good and the reviews bear that out. I tried the £59 tasting menu - not cheap. Two of the five dishes were bland and poor, the rest ok - but not good enough at the price. Worse were the cocktails - what was in effect a kir royale for £14! And a sad looking lychee cocktail for £12. Maybe I missed something or maybe it was an off night, but I spent £174 for two and expected a lot more - I am being generous at 3 stars
A. L.
Just came from the most fantastic meal at Flat Three. The chefs 7 is definitely a must, the team produce 7 delicious courses and each one was unbelievable. We left feeling like we couldn't fault a single thing. The front of house were very assertive and the owner has a clear difinitive eye for taste and class. If anyone is looking for a special evening with food to match then they should visit here. 5* all round.

Some friends and I visited Flat Three on Saturday night and had a truly memorable dining experience which will remain with us forever.
We had the chefs pairing menu which meant each dish was accompanied with either a wine, cocktail or sake to compliment or contrast the flavours in whatever way the chef felt suited it best. Clearly Pavel the head chef is some kind of wizard!
I don’t have the vocabulary to do the food justice, but it was all absolutely delicious and worked beautifully well together.
Some of our favourite dishes were the mackerel sashimi with wood ants and spicy chojang sauce. How they came up with putting wood ants with fish I’ll never know, but they tasted zingy and of citrus, which complimented the fish perfectly. The Japanese baby turnip with crunchy milk, brill with oyster mushroom sauce, sea buckthorn sorbet and dandelion coffee desert were all great too and I need to find a recipe for the Runeberg cake immediately!
The restaurant interior was very elegant, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive which made us feel at home. The glasses were very cool and so delicate. As someone interested in design, it was all the subtle little touches and attention to detail which was present at all levels from the food, the furniture, tableware and printed menus which made it so special.
It’s not a cheap night out, but experience dining at it’s finest. With their open kitchen you can see how much care and attention goes into each dish, it’s clear what you’re paying for. I’m already saving my pennies and looking forward to my next visit. Who knows what will be on the menu then!
Can’t recommend them enough, well done guys!

This review for Flat Three is long overdue! My husband and I had a lovely dinner here in March. We were beginning a three month long trip around Europe and happened to meet the general manager, Merlin, at a nearby pub in Notting Hill. He suggested we have dinner at Flat Three one night, so we made a reservation for that Saturday evening. It was hands down the best meal we had on our entire three month trip. Each dish was extremely inventive, perfectly cooked, and delicious. My favorites were the mussels and cabbage, the oysters, and the bergamot five ways for dessert. The wine was superb, as was the rhubarb negroni they had on the menu at the time. We had the best experience and couldn’t recommend Flat Three more highly!

Great food and drink. Really friendly staff. Discovered Sake here!

Why doesn’t this place have a Michelin star! Go here before everyone else figures out that it has not been rated properly and the prices go up!! Honestly the best foodie experience (if you are a menu tasting kind of person ) I can think of in recent memory for inventive and delicious and most importantly - as a self proclaimed not to shabby chef myself - things I never could have fathomed to make on my own! Great date place.

Highly recommend this place.
London really needed this type of food. The mix of styles are a natural fit. While not Noma or Relias it is in London, and had very good delivery.
We will go back.
The wine ( alcohol ) pairing was well considered. We really enjoyed, however, the pours where a little stingy. But that is the only small negative point on the whole meal.
t. o.
Really delicious but really expensive for tiny portions. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff, but empty restaurant so perhaps wouldn’t be as attentive if more tables had been filled! Will return, because there was something unique about the sushi. Just wish it had more atmosphere.
M.
A must for all foodies, the menu is fun and interesting - full of great flavours and intrigue. Still thinking about the food weeks later (the duck was amazing). Impressive for somewhere that's only been open for a few months! Nice atmosphere, although somewhat hard to spot from street level. A new favourite!

Flat Three is 100% deserving of its 5/5 star reviews. We've never been to Noma, but from what I understand about their approach, Flat Three strikes me as being a younger cousin of sorts. The quality of the locally-sourced/foraged ingredients are clearly top-notch, but where they really break away from the pack is with their fermentations (which they are clear experts in). We will definitely be back and would recommend Flat Three to anyone (omnivore or vegan) looking to have a wonderful and unique meal.

Held our wedding reception at Flat Three which the whole team help to turn into a magical day to remember for us. The experience, from planning to the actaul day was a joy with helpfulness, professionalism and most importantly was really good fun. The food and wines were exceptional, service impeccable and a standout dish of sea bass sashimi. Thank you Flat Three for helping us to create truly wonderful and memorable day.

Extortionately overpriced and we spent a few hundred pounds for two but we came out hungry. Portion is very small. Restaurant is very elegant and very unusual to be on a first floor (hence the name Flat 3) but I was disappointed. Style over substance, this pretentious "concept" food is more for "discussion" than for eating. I don't feel it does justice to Japanese food.

Stunning originality, flavours that surprise at every turn, served up for lovely people. Often suspicious of wine flights but this worked so well, with some confident pairings in proper (Zalto) glassware, and real confidence and skill to take different beverages to pair with foods that wouldn't go with wine. Go.

Unique experience. Loved the food and nice continental wine selection.

I think the most appropriate reaction to Flat Three is, well it’s fine. The food was fine, the space was fine. I would say it is a little expensive for the the quality of food. I cannot understand how it has the rating it does. There are much better options in London.

My husband and I ate here for the first time for Valentine's Day 2017. The food is extremely delicious. It's arguably the best food that i've ever eaten. We will definitely be visiting again.

My sister and I are currently doing Veganuary and because I know that we are only 2 amongst the thousands of people enjoying a plant based diet this month I want to recommend Flat Three as the best vegan restaurant we have come across in London!

Excellent high end vegan option (and meat options too), Japanese flavours with European influence, absolutely every element from sauce to salt homemade, good wine pairings and non alcoholic fermented drinks!

(Translated) It was a wonderful experience! I visited because the concept of the combination of multinational ingredients and cooking techniques stands out.
It was a really tasty and enjoyable meal with a unique combination of ingredients. I ordered an extra menu for the 3 course, and all were more delicious and enjoyable than expected. The recommended drink menu was also appropriate. I had the opportunity to taste the store's own fermented tea and juices, and I am very excited about the non-alcohol pairing using this.
If you are traveling to London, I recommend you to visit and experience a new taste :)
It was a wonderful experience during the trip.
Thank you for beautiful food and services.

Thank you for beautiful food and services.

(Translated) Very special cuisine with a mix of Japanese and English dishes. Much is fermented, which gives a special flavor combination. Unfortunately the place is a bit hidden but easy to find.
Be sure to ask for sake, because they have a number of them.

(Translated) Entering this restaurant that goes easily unnoticed at the corner of a street is to enter another dimension. We live there an incomparable culinary experience. If you are looking for a good table to fill your belly, go your way: the portions are quite small if you take little dishes. On the contrary, if you are a curious gastronome, this establishment is for you. The multiplicity of unusual flavors associated with fine foods will surprise you (provided you have the means, count 90 minimum £ for 2).
