Reviews of GAZETTE Battersea
A. K.
The food deserves a high four stars and is presented well and flavoursome. The location itself is not particularly attractive and the bathroom wasn't as clean as you'd expect in restaurant charging these prices. The staff were perhaps overly efficient which so this made us feel slightly rushed.
J. B.
We are massive fans of this place. We had a lovely anniversary dinner in Putney and have been going since to the Battersea branch as it’s close to our home. Lovely atmosphere, amazing food, great brunch and close to the river. This has quickly become our local favourite. Try out the special nights! Chateaubriand Monday and lobster Thursday!
M. E.
Amazing hidden gem, have been here many times and literally never had a bad experience or meal. Couldn't recommend more!
French onion soup and steak tartare an absolute must and the wine list is excellent and exceptionally well priced. 10/10
A.
Went for brunch. We were probably one of the first guests in the day, so it took some time for the food to arrive. There was also a very loud construction next door. So overall, we were getting a bit agitated being hungry, waiting in the loud noise. But once the food arrived, just completely forgot that there was any noise to begin with. For my dish, the potatoes were amazingly buttery, the cheese was plenty and melted beautifully on the baguette - overall a fantastic breakfast.
Also ordered steak and duck from here before for delivery. The presentation was less nice by the time it got delivered, but the flavours were still amazing.
M. V. B.
This place is simply superb: to this day I am at a loss how can they serve such high quality food, superbly cooked and presented, at such rock-bottom prices. If you love gastronomy, go there now - just do yourself a favour. As a former award-winning Chef, I actually know what I am writing about. Go there, enjoy the food (and superb service), and thank me later.
E. R.
Quality food and fair price. Excellent service. Will definitely return. Highly recommended it.
J. F.
Went here for breakfast and had a fantastic experience. Staff were all top notch, food was amazing and reasonably priced for London. Will definitely head back.
M.
We went for our Christmas Lunch because their Putney restaurant was closed. Set menu was good and we all chose the Chateaubriand which was excellent. A big thank you to the staff who gave up their Christmas day and served us with a big friendly smile.
J. M.
Held a birthday dinner here last night. The food was excellent and the staff were great. The refurbished downstairs and expanded terrace are great. We had the wine cellar room where the ambience is just wonderful. Well done Gazette
M. C.
So pleased but not surprised Walter has weathered the pandemic. French cuisine with delightful touches.Deferential service . Traditional French terrace and interior with areas designed to make couples groups and families feel welcome and relaxed.
J. S.
I've been to the Gazette multiple times. Always good however this time it was somewhat disappointing. The fries were undercooked (this was addressed quickly by the staff though).
Oysters were really good. The escargots were a touch overcooked, rubbery and missing that pungent garlic taste. The wine choice is always great and the dessert fabulous.
R. B.
Went there a while ago for a friend's birthday and the experience was good.
But I came back recently and it wasn't that great. It as taken forever for everything to be served (15 min to only have the menu!) despite that there wasn't so many customers.
The food was ok but not exceptional, especially for the price.
I'm disappointed and I'm not sure I'll go back there again.
d. w.
Authentic French cuisine, great little hidden gem close to Battersea, fantastic food and good value for money.
Staff very attentive and friendly
A. F.
Highly recommended! If you've always wanted to try French cuisine but didn't know where to start you can do so at Gazette. The roasted duck breast was brimming with flavours, and remember to ask about the specials.
L. L.
First visit to this gem of a restaurant, superbly prepared and cooked food, tasty and with great flavours, a definite for a second visit. And the bonus of being child friendly.
J. J.
Real French cuisine quotidienne. Steak tartare prepared a l'ancien excellent. House wine is very respectable. Not a 95 on Parker but perfectly fitted to the meal.
W. W.
5*
Top staff and top food.
I m never disappointed when I come in Gazette for dinner.
A french spirit in every dish I had last friday.
L. B.
Cute little French bistro on the Thames. We had the steak tartare and the Chateaubriand
Perfectly done wirh quick discreet service. Great wine list too !
T. R.
Excellent brunch, hearty helpings of French cuisine, rustically served by friendly polite staff. Great value
A. A.
Have not visited all Gazette outlets, but I have the feeling that this maybe be the best. Absolutely great food and service, with a genuine French brasserie feel, not your high street knock-offs. My 3rd visit in 4 years and quality is still the same. Well done
Ó. M.
Spectacular french food, best I have tried in London!!! The souffle is from another world
D. F.
A hidden gem at the middle of Battersea.
Outstanding food and elegant place. We came for dinner and I couldn't be more happy with the choice.
G. R.
Came here on a Tuesday night with 10 people. Ordered their amazing deal on Tuesday special of 1kg of mussels for £10 a really amazing deal! Mussels were as amazing with a free side of fries and the sauce was just on point! Friends had the eye fillet, calamari risotto and the tartar and all looked amazing and everyone was complimenting the meals! Tartar was especially amazing as they season and make the tartar at your table. The only bad notes would be service was quite slow and the garlic bread only had a small amount of garlic butter on it, apart from that it was great!
N. S.
The food was really good. But the service is not that good. Food was slow. The table that arrived after us got their food before us.
J. G.
This used to be our go to restaurant for many years on a Friday evening. Was very disappointed with the slow service. Food was still great but we had to wait an hour before even the bread arrived. They tried to resolve - and were very apologetic- but was a bit late.
D. D. R.
Friendly bar by the river Thames doing take outs at the moment during lockdow .
V. K.
Very nice French atmosphere and authentic! Tasty real French toasts, mmmm! délicieux
L. K.
Have been going to Gazette Battersea for 12 years, never ever left disappointed. The food is insanely good, the tartar and praline souffle are just mind blowing. Service can be a bit hit or miss but today was impeccable. Cannot recommend highly enough.
R. L.
Lovely little french restaurant. We had brunch which was delicious but the other dishes we saw brought out looked great. Staff (our waitress was Desiree) were lovely. Nice outside seating area which felt Covid secure and inside seating looked well distanced too.
J. L.
Fantastic neighborhood bistro for French food! Loved the foie gras and entrecote. But one of the porks four ways was a bit overcooked. Still we'll be back!
A. S.
Great o have this gem open again. New staff taking time to settle in. Delayed service meant that some of our dishes were luke warm at best. Nonetheless we will definitely be back. Matre d' was great under the pressure.
C. 0.
Really nice place. The food is amazing and Hervé is incredible
S. P.
Great restaurant, delicious and authentic food, friendly service.
M. D.
Been eating at all the Gazette(S) from it's beginning many moons ago. Well being a fussy cow and French cuisine lover I know that I never go wrong when I step into Gazette.
Chef Pascal is still the best around and his menu(S) are ace. Christmas menus are never to be missed.
Going for mine today actually.
I most definitely recommend Gazette Battersea for its beautiful location. Well after a nice full dinner we work it out by the river with a good walk ....Just to loosen that belt...lol
S. A.
I was out for a walk with a friend, when we decided to stop somewhere for dinner. My friend, being french, insisted on Foie gras. A quick google search led us to Gazette, and it was absolutely worth it! We had a lovely meal, on par with food in Paris itself.
L. K.
Authentic French cuisine with lovely kind service. Tried and would recommend the sausage grill. Snails: a must-try delicacy.
On my way out I got an espresso takeaway. Very aromatic!
M. R.
The food was great. The service was a little a touch on the French side.
L. J.
Visited today to celebrate our nans birthday. The food, drinks, service and staff were all fantastic. 10/10. Would highly recommend. Thank you for a lovely lunch.
m. m.
I went there for a brunch and coffee. Food is delicious but service even topped it up. Mathilde and all the team were amazing.
T. L.
Soupe à l'onion is too sweet (sugar inside?) But the soufflé is really good.
Rest us tasty and savoury.
W. F.
Expensive for what it is. Limited menu, staff forgot orders and the bill was wrong. The food was ok but didn't justify the premium pricing. It was fine but I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend.
B. B.
Really nice food and traditionaly french, service was great however slightly let down by one waitress who was a bit grumpy.
Would go again
E. R.
Several months later, but I just wanted to share my experience here. We had a large booking for lunch as a calm part of our wedding day and I couldn’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. The booking process was simple, the staff went out of their way to help us plan for our special day and put in some gorgeous finishing touches.
On the day, we were late arriving but the staff were spectacular and kind. The food is wonderful, especially as we had some difficult eaters (toddlers and a variety of diet restrictions). I can’t say thank you enough! Everything was to a perfect standard and was such a beautiful experience on our big day. This place is a true gem, especially for an event or party booking!
M. B. I. a.
This is a small chain 🔗 of three restaurants. Really nice and refined cuisine here with lots of classic French 🇫🇷 dishes. The service was also good, a little bit slow but fine. The group I was with enjoyed all their dishes. I was particularly taken away by the apple tarte tatin for dessert, which was delicious! 😋
D. C.
This is one of our favourite neighbourhood restaurants. Tucked away just back from the river, it's a relaxed French Bistro with an ever-changing specials menu and some great French classics. A big wine list and some decent beers make it perfect for dinner and the strong Bloody Mary's make it great for brunch. The staff have always been friendly and fast and we've always been made to feel welcome.
H. H.
Great place , the food is excellent and the cocktails are second to none. I would highly recommend the french onion soup!
H. T.
We had the takeaway cold lobster with mayonnaise and chips. The lobster was simply divine: beautifully (and lightly) cooked. I cannot recommend it enough.
I. S.
Food is amazing, great choice of wine too. Service can be relaxed - thus 4 stars.
L. K.
Great location, attentive and friendly staff and most importantly fantastic food! This place is a gem in the neighborhood. We came for the wednesday night mussels special and will definitely be back for a thursday night lobster sometime in the near future.
M. a. A.
Excellent food and service, being French and Polish natives living in England for years, we really enjoyed it and the prices are very competitive. We took crêpes and coffees which were very tasty. The environment is relaxing with background music just at the right level, nice decoration. Little extra, you can write your message on some tables (slate ones). If you're looking for French food, you'll be at the right place. Clean toilets, hygiene as expected. We definitely recommend it.
S. G.
Probably the best French breakfast, lunch and dinner place I've been to in London so far. Their food selection is fantastic. I also appreciate that their breakfast menu doesn't end at 12, I love having their crepes for lunch. Really like the Gazette salad and their madeleines are freshly made and delicious with chocolate or with honey. Would highly recommend.
S. M.
We were keen to try Gazette as they tout themselves as a local French Brasserie serving reliable, honest French food. The food at Gazette is OK. We all enjoyed our meal - but nobody felt it was THAT good. However, the fish soup got a particularly good review, but the bread was stale and the service was calamitous from the beginning, hence I will split this review into two sections.
First, the food.
A solid 6 -7/10. Everyone enjoyed what they had but the bread was stale and there was a moth in the bread basket - which given the bread was stale is alarming. Otherwise the food would have been a definite 7. Desserts very good, especially the raspberry sorbet and the tarte tatin!
The service.
3/10
It took ages to get our order taken. Then even longer to collect our empty starter plates - so long, in fact that we were presented with the bill rather than our main courses... this was quickly rectified and after that the manager seemed to take over the service at our table, which was appreciated.
D. H.
The service by Ylan was the only thing we enjoyed during my visit to Gazette. The food was really below average no seasoning, no taste just bland which is quite dissapointing when looking forward to trying out a new place for the first time.
j. s. C.
Been here twice - totally authentic Parisian in every way. If the prices are high, they are worth it. In fact 33 quid a head including beer and wine is not expensive to me mind. We simply love it and the staff are terrific.
H. H.
Nice French restaurant with large selection of wine. The pumpkin gratin was really good.
Update after trying the fondue: charcuterie was very tasty, the fondue was good however there were two phases: one very liquid and one more solid even after stirring a long time, made it difficult to eat. Being French I'm used to eating lots of fondue and it is not totally normal, however the taste was good.
c. m.
Delicious..amazing octopus ! Great service
G. F.
Great French restaurant, fab food, great changing menu (biweekly special menus) and pretty good wine list, too. Good value for money. Would be five stars if service was a bit more attentive.
B. P.
Lovely food and drink, attentive staff, good service, large outside dining area. Very nice!
A. W.
Good French food and great staff. Over the years I've had most items on the menu. The plats de jour tend to be excellent, snails or steak tartare are a favourite starter for me, although there are plenty of more standard options. The only item on the menu that surprise me by still being there, is the squid risotto; it's never had a good reaction, during my visits. The cheese board is great! Sometimes the main lights get left on too bright for evening dining, in my opinion, but the staff are always happy to accommodate. Dogs are welcome too. An excellent restaurant with a good kitchen and it's good to see the owner take the time to make regular visits and talk to the guests. 10/10.
A. T.
This used to be one of my very favourite restaurants in London. When we were experiencing the end of the heat wave last week we thought it would be a great night to go and enjoy the kilo of Moules deal outside at Gazette. This evening my hubby and I decided to take advantage of a great offer on chateaubriand at Gazette. We hadn’t made a booking, we just turned up and were met with a wonderful warm welcome. Nothing was too much trouble.
J. C.
This is the perfect restaurant if you want to impress someone. Typical French cuisine served in classic style. Food is just delicious - I doubt if in France they could do it better. Helpful and friendly staff.
I like their specials like Tuesday moules - mussels are well prepared and with spicy tomatoes they're my favourite. I can highly recommend the praline soufflé. It's the dessert that will make your dinner complete.
S. G.
French people eat here! Rustic brasserie style Gaelic food in all of its buttery, garlicky, cheesy, belly-busting and rich glory. Seasonal events and menus are also always on-point, well conceived and well executed. Wine list well chosen and delivers at all price levels.
A. E. B.
we arrived there 2 of us at about 12:30 mns, the restaurant was already half full, the sunny terrasse also, we ordered a fish soup which was very watery served with three tiny flat pieces of baguette, the rouille was very good, and a crab mousse which was very heavy on the mayo served with 2 or 3 minuscule leaves and again 3 tiny flat pieces of baguette, not enough for the crab, luckily I ordered 1 garlic bread with it and was very good. Overall I wont order the same dishes again, but will try something different next time. The service was excellent.there is 10% service charge included in the bill.
R. G. C.
Today was your second visit and we will definitely come back! Wonderful atmosphere and amazing food (it was a struggle to finish the mussels but they were too nice to leave anything there...)! If around I advise anyone to give it a go!
d. c.
Delivery was quite quick - unfortunately our delivery was missing desert - quickly remedied - the burgers were medium rare as ordered but sort of solid lumps - tough to cut and eat ...
B. L.
The place has a fine sprinkle of independence and originality throughout .. food was good, service better and location best.
In these strange CV19 times brunch felt like a normal affair which is nice init
J. B.
Brilliant food, just lovely authentic French food with out the journey. Service excellent really worth the visit. Enjoy.
D. Z.
Been a customer for 3 years. The food, service and drinks have always been great. Breakfast, lunch and dinner have always been great and we really enjoy the specials as it means there is always something amazing that is new to try.
J. C.
Was treated to a delicious 30th birthday dinner by my boyfriend! Absolutely loved it! Felt really special and were well looked after - along with a delicious chocolate mouse cake with candle, served beautifully on a rustic piece of slate, what more could I ask for? The staff are delightful and attentive and French! Tasty cocktails to start the evening and one of the best steaks I have ever eaten! Cant stop recommending to friends! Just go you wont regret it :)
G. M.
Keep going back - love it ! Set in a quirky residential forecourt this is a must visit restaurant - authentic French cuisine and superb menu options expect to pay but really enjoy. We visit at least once every time we're back in London. Highly recommended. 🍾
P. G.
I will definitely come back to try out more dishes. We had a fondue, really tasty even if it looked weird for a fondue (liquid on top and solid at the bottom even after stirring for ages). The wine selection is large and we were not disappointed by our choice (white gaillac and a dessert wine montbazillac).
The charcuterie coming with the fondue was delicious.
The service is really nice too.
We were on a stone table where we could chalk draw on it. Quite a convivial moment!
I recommend it even if it is a bit pricy.
B. L.
Food is OK, but I thought the service could have been much friendlier. The staff were too sullen, and it was hard work to elicit a smile. My Foie Gras Chaude was excellent but my Duck was overcooked, chewy and tasteless.
M. T.
3 of us went on a Saturday night recently and were blown away by (almost all of) the food. Service was excellent all evening from the friendly staff. We had 'les moules', 'les escargots' and 'pot de crabe' to start, all were delicious and good sized portion - starter portion mussels maybe a little too large even, to be honest. For mains two of us had the Chateaubriand beef, which was exceptional, perfectly cooked - juicy and full of flavour. The other had the lamb rump which was also delicious apparently. For dessert the 'petits pots' was a little underwhelming, expected more based on the description but the Madelines in that dish are tiny and were a little overcooked. My partner had simply the single Madeline 'La Madeline Gazette' which at only £1.40 was miles better value, larger and better tasting. Very happy overall, highly recommended
K. M.
Lovely restaurant setting and great, tasty food. Was a touch expensive and service as little slow, but it was a very busy Saturday afternoon when we visited.
J. F.
Even before I started to eat here this evening I had a carafe of excellent white wine served by most attentive staff all accompanied by a perfect tape of perfect French music of my perfect youth of the 1960s ... donc, déjà parfait! A perfect hors d’œuvre. Merci à tous.
P. E.
Fabulous!
Amazing food, Great service... et l'ambiance ...c'est très bien !
Parfait! :)
Definitely returning with the girlfriend (she loved it too!) :)
V. M.
Dear staff at Gazette Batersea your are all amazing. Thank you very much for your hard work on this difficult times. You are absolutely great people. A special thank to three wonderful women, Manù (not sure if I get your name right) Olga and the yung French girl who used to came and delivery the food. Thank you very much for being so helpful. Kind regards, Viorica (Veronique:)).
R. M.
Good food, good service, decent prices
T. P.
Got seated next to the private dining area which was being used by a family so kids kept running in and out. There were other tables available throughout the restaurant which would have been more suitable. food was good
J. H.
Great food and good service
J. C.
Excellent venison burger with foie gras!
H. C.
Lovely decor and wine list. Friendly staff. We suffered from poor staffing levels and sadly as a result very slow service when we were here, I want to give them another chance but my last visit was disappointing.
A. C.
Amazing food and cozy place. Beautiful french staff welcome you warmly. Delicious food, good service. A bit high prices but it is worth it.
M. E.
I had an amazing swordfish on a huge amount of very tasty vegetables and salad. It's the best meal I've had in ages and it was only £11.50!
J. C.
Amazing food with super service
h. r.
Exquisite food but service was what topped it off, very attentive and even let us in slightly earlier as we were in a hurry! Definetly will be back next time I'm in the area
T. J.
I used to go here alot s few years ago it wss excellant. Went there last week. Service was good, however all the main dishes are served on there own so you have to order sides which are not in the additional meal, bit pricey for what it is.
T. B.
Excellent lunch, friendly service and sunshine on the terrace
P. C.
We’ve been going there a while as the food is great and the staff is always really welcoming. If you a nice time with friends and family (the place is also dog friendly- so the whole family can be there 😉) then this is the place to go to.
M. R. V.
Great location near the river, the food is good and the service is nice. Beers are a bit too hipster, mostly local small brewery.
G. M. P.
I love this hidden gem of a French restaurant a short walk along the Thames from Wandsworth bridge. It has a very friendly vibe whether you are there for a morning coffee with your newspaper or some real French food for lunch or dinner.
E. C.
Average food
Tuna salad was disappointing
Have been reassured by friends its better in the evening we went at lunch
S. S.
My favourite pub in the area. A french pub and restaurant with great french food (though I'm partial to the breakfast), warm desserts (madelines with chocolate), and great beer.
Love the ambience and the service.
C. W.
Good food and service. Portion sizes a little on the small side (had eggs Royale). Coffee was decent and freshly squeezed orange juice is recommended.
J. L.
Gazette always reminds me of proper French brasseries: the atmosphere is casual but the food is of a superb quality.
I recommend the warm foie gras starter and their Côte de Boeuf.
T. “. F.
Love love love. The service is excellent staff are friendly and the food is fantastic. Problem no parking. I'd say that this is definitely for the local residents.
V. G.

M. X. G.
Delicious meal. Escargot, tartare, foie gras, lobster mac and cheese, goats cheese, soufflé. Good service. Friendly. Recommend.
A. A.
Very strange place, some of the dishes are good some really horrible, sometimes sames dished which were good other day just not eatable. Probably they have different chefs?
A. T.
Our favourite local place, nice food with proper French touch, lovely staff and great atmosphere. Highly recommended!
