Reviews of German Gymnasium Grand Café

Already want to go back! This has been on my list for a long time and I can say it was worth the wait!
Herring and shrimp cocktail for starters. Both good wouldn’t say they were out of this world, but good. I really enjoyed the chicken schnitzel. For dessert I had the Mont Blanc tart which was not so rich, and so a very nice dessert. The Black Forest coupe was a really nice way to finish off the meal, the cherry sorbet was so refreshing.
I have to say the service here is very good, the staff are very attentive and friendly!
J. M.
Beautiful venue, impeccable service and a great atmosphere with the music just right so you can have a conversation. You are not rushed through your meal and there are choices on the menu for all - meat, seafood, veggie & vegan (although not as many as the meat/ fish dishes). I had the seared salmon with kale, chopped tomatoes, dill and a mustard sesame sauce which was delicious! Would definitely make a repeat visit.
E. A.
The venue is beautiful, very spacious and the music is just at the right volume to add to the atmosphere while allowing to have a normal conversation.
The service is excellent with quick, kind staff that will go the extra mile for their customers.
The food is great but tend to be on the more expensive side with main courses around 20£-30£(with exception for the burger 14£).
Overall, we had a great experience there.
Minor feedback for the owner:
Please consider providing meat cutting knives when ordering meat dishes instead of the current ones that are more suitable for spreading jam.
F. S.
The ambiance was really nice, it was rather refreshing not to have loud music. The food was ok, the schnitzel was very hard and chewy but the rest was good. The service was rather disorganized, they waited to get our main order before bringing our drinks which felt a bit odd and inefficient. Otherwise the waiting staff was really friendly and nice. We didn't have enough time for dessert. Definitely make a reservation if you plan on going.
M. B.
Delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, wide wine list and great desserts. I recommend to everyone! I would like to come back here again and again.

Authentic German cuisine and nice place to hang out with friend. My German bestie recommended me to try KX Currywurst (curry infused pork sausage , curries tomato sauce, chips, house sauce), Jager Schnitzel (served with veal and mushroom sauce), warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce. The food is amazing and this is the first time I tried German curried ketchup, which is very tasty.
Q. W.
Ordered the Chicken Schnitzel but it was only average. It came with sweet potato fries but they were soggy and not particularly hot. Felt like they were put to the side for a while before serving. But the interior design is nice and service was good.

Booked a table for my partners birthday for some dinner and some drinks, we had a lovely time there, food was very tasty for sure. Definitely worth a go if you fancy a German cuisine.
T. V.
Love it here, food always amazing. Only downside on this visit was the service speed. They don't leave you with a water jug to top up yourself so if they don't see your water glass empty and refill it, you have to keep asking for a refill. I asked twice and it took an age to actually get the refill after asking for it. A recommendation I would make is ask for a table upstairs. Downstairs is super noisy and the tables are packed in quite tightly. Upstairs is much better.
F. F.
The lovely lady at reception was great and found us a table really quickly. Food was lovely too. Will be back! Desert was amazing!
J. L.
This is a well run restaurant, the service was very good and the food was delicious, we were not made to hurry our meal which made it a very pleasurable experience.
The toilets were very nicely decorated and were clean.
B. W.
Always have had a lovely time at this restaurant. The decor and ambience is top notch, the staff polite, friendly and helpful, and the food brilliant.
The best place I have found in the UK for restaurant quality German food, comparable to what I used to eat when over there. It might not be a huge menu but each item is well thought out and finished. Selection of beer is an added bonus. Recommended.
G. B.
Popped in for a Swift one. Staff were excellent. Good selection of beers. Sat at the bar upstairs and received excellent service
M. B.
We went here for our wedding anniversary and loved it! A good variety of German food. The venue is very interesting, it’s got a very high roof and looks rather grand. The service was good and they even give us a ‘Happy Anniversary’ plate with a scoop of ice cream. The prices were pretty reasonable too.
R. D.
Stopped by here for dessert. The male host was very accommodating, friendly and found us a table upstairs. Staff were friendly, even though they were extremely busy, they stopped to answer my questions about the architecture and history. Very knowledgeable. Oh Nd dessert was superb. Good portions and affordable without being overtly pricey.
A. “.
Went in for dinner on my own. I asked the staff for recommendation for small dish for myself. I was recommended to order the sausage salad plus side chips. It’s their specialty on the menu. I’m a little disappointed that the salad didn’t really come with any vegetables but with cheese and pickled red onions. Although the sausage tasted good, the dish itself is quite a let down. Service was good and staffs are friendly. Probably need to go back and try other things on the menu in the future.
B. D.
This was absolutely fantastic.
The goulash was delicious, perfect texture and such nice presentation. The Käsekrainer, oh my goodness I'd missed that food so much. The sauerkraut was on point, the truffle mash was superb. Neither myself or my fellow diner had tried Romanian wine before and it was great! The staff knew straight away what I meant when I asked for a Kir, and no issue with us sharing a black forest gateau for desert. Great service throughout, such a cool venue and atmosphere, all with a good location! I'll definitely be back.
S. D. T.
Very nice place to have dinner or even just to grab a drink at the bar. The atmosphere inside is quite elegant and sophisticated, they have a great choice of fine quality German food together with traditional German beers and a good variety of wines. I would recommend the Chicken/veal schnitzel that I find sublime. Don't miss the apple strudel and the cooked cheesecake with Blueberry compote! Definitely a place to come back!
A. N.
I really enjoyed this location for attentive service and proper German food. The wine selection was good and well priced. Overall the ambiance was higher and without the larger price. Portion sizes were good.
M. V.
One of the best places I have visited for a while after a short trip to Paris. You really appreciate the service and quality in the UK. Recommended! Everything is super delicious
L.
Great atmosphere at this place with good background music and nice lighting. We were sat upstairs overlooking the middle area , the building itself is very cool. Food and drink and service all great. Good vegan/veggie choices too. Recommend vegan schnitzel and the Pilsner Steins. A must visit in London! Was £70/person for 2 of us for 3 courses, wine and beer which seemed decent value given the location/quality and service. Recommended for dates but a larger group party would also be a laugh.
B. H.
Beautiful space, good atmosphere, reasonable price. Had pork knuckle, portion was huge - could easily feed two, tasty too.
A. N.
I really enjoyed this location for attentive service and proper German food. The wine selection was good and well priced. Overall the ambiance was higher and without the larger price. Portion sizes were good.
K. S.
Was left pleasantly surprised after only visiting the German Gymnasium due to lack of dessert options in a nearby restaurant i was eating in.
It has a decent range of desserts on the menu - I had the apple strudel, which was delicious. Being a German restaurant it had a good variety of German beers from which to choose from.
You also cannot help but marvel at the large cavernous building the restaurant is located in.
Will definitely visit again, this time for a full meal.

Service was very good, outdoor seating area is not well heated and it’s located in an open area so I wouldn’t say the ambience was great. Food is delicious but not exactly what you would get in Germany. Overall I’d say good value. Indoor bars looked really great so might re-visit for the bar after lockdown.
T. A.
Delightful dinner with friends. If you like German sausage then this is the place. Cocktails are very good and the service is brilliant. Options to dine upstairs which is quieter and brighter, or downstairs which is in amongst it all..
N. O.
Amazing atmosphere right by St Pancras. German music in restrooms. Huge spacious with a great, sophisticated vibe. Wide selection of drinks. Gourmet food. Oozes class...
S. R. D.
Wonderful atmosphere. Beautiful decor. Upmarket and fashionable. Great selection of drinks and food.
Next to the impressive St Pancras building.

Beautiful restaurant, good cocktails, great food, lovely service. Cute staff I spotted in the photo the next day. ☺️

We spent Christmas Day at German Gymnasium and could not have made a better choice.
The venue is beautiful and was decked out with tasteful decorations. The food was exceptional - super tasty and they were able to cater well for gluten free. Service was superb and we were looked after really well throughout our stay.
We'll definitely be back!
B. L.
Fantastic German cuisine restaurant. I had a jaeger schnitzel (veal) and my partner had a chicken schnitzel. Both tasted great although mine was thin compared to the chicken schnitzel. The sides were great. Only bad thing that happened is that my partner orderd the dessert, 2 scoop ice cream to have woth the expresso. The expresso arrived 15 minutes after the ice cream. I imagine that was just a small error.
Everything else was fine and it was a pleasure to eat here.
M. D.
Selected as the choice of restaurant for a farewell lunch.
Food was excellent, service was prompt, the waiting staff were thoroughly professional, and always on hand to meet your needs.
Thoroughly recommend it for any occasion, as we will return again in the future. I have also eaten at the sister restaurant in Bristol.
Z. D.
Great service is made in moments, like "Can I get you any more drinks?", "Let me just clear that table for you." or "Would you like to see the dessert menu?". We got none of these during our visit. The service was very slow, some of our order was missed, and we had to try and catch the waitress because she would never check in with us, even when we had been waiting to order for 20 minutes.
The food was delicious (I've definitely paid less for great German food before, but I guess I knew what I was getting into here), the cocktail selection was a bit samey and out of season, but the drinks were nice. The interior decor is beautiful, which is clearly their main selling point, but for me it felt shallow. We paid a high price, for service that was bad enough for me to actually ask the service charge to be removed, which I never really do. Based on this trip I wouldn't return, especially as they kept turning the light brightness down low, then suddenly up high, then low again which grew annoying!
L. E.
Beatiful environment, excellent service, good food and very accommodating attitude.
We spent three great hours in an environment that made you feel relaxed and we certainly recommend it!
O. M.
Great place, really enjoyed the atmosphere. Food is great, proper German. Thumbs up! We had goulash and Oktoberfest burger.
J. H.
A friend took me here as a late birthday treat and what a treat it was!
Located opposite the bird cage to the rear of Kings Cross, you can book inside or out. Food is really nice, menu is varied and reasonably priced.
Staff were very attentive and even brought a mini birthday cake out after seeing on the booking notes that we were there for my birthday.
Will definitely be coming back here again when visiting London
R. R.
Fantastic, authentic German cuisine in a chillaxed setting! The beer and wine menu is very impressive! The staff are all excellent. Such an amazing culinary experience! Highly recommended.
b. p.
Went out with old school friends for an evening meal.
It's fine for the value of the type of food, certainly not fine dining. A good friendly ambiance, good value for money.... plenty of food.
Nice with friends and maybe work mates.
J. T.
The food was great, but for schnitzel it is quite expensive. Dessert was amazing. Staff is very nice.
D. K.
Came here for food and drinks, it was lovely.
Staff were super helpful and friendly.
Great food, I mean wow!
Special thank you to Evelina who made our night even more special. She was absolutely brilliant.
Would be come back definitely!
J. H.
The food and service was OK, but a little slow. Two hours for a main course and desert is a bit slow. It is an interesting venue. Our German sausages were served in a bowl, which made eating them awkward.
R. M.
Food is great and atmosphere is metropolitan, the food is naturally German and of a high standard and the desert is also great, most of all the service is impeccable so worth the money.
S. J.
More upscale dining than beer Hall, but the food and beer are good! I had the Vienna schnitzel with warm potato salad.
R. E.
Great night with wonderful attentive waiter Marco. The sharing platter with pork knuckle, schnitzel, sausage and sauerkraut was plenty enough for 3 of us and the hazelnut praline dessert was divine. Will def be back.
J. P. (.
An amazing Breakfast & great service
Fantastic clean toilets
Great history of the building
Dinning inside & outside
Highly rey
D. M.
Excellent food and atmosphere added to by experienced and courteous staff. Highly recommended.
T. S.
This is a lovely German restaurant less than 5 mins from the Southeastern platforms. There is nothing i can say bad about this place. I would willingly go back.
C. L.
First time out since things opened up again, German Gymnasium did not disappoint. Staff were very friendly and food was very tasty. Good respect for Covid restrictions indoors: screens between tables, most staff wore masks etc. Would recommend !
J. K.
Another restaurant recommended by our concierge at the hotel. This one was housed in building with quite a character. When I heard German in its name I felt that this could be a turn off for vegetarians, but our concierge assured this was more modern European. To our surprise, when we went there they had a vegetarian/vegan menu.
The appetizer I ordered with fried cheese ball turned me off because of the overpowering egg taste in the fried cheese ball, but the base was very tasty. My wife ordered a gnocchi and it looked like fries, but only in shape and it tasted good. The kale salad tasted delicious.
We were seated at a table not facing each other but on the same side. That was odd but didn't takeaway from food experience. The service was very business like and professional but no so much as friendly.
l. o.
Disappointing experience. Food was average and expensive for the quality. Setting is great but let-down by a lukewarm greeting and miserable staff. Had to get up from the table at one point to try and get someone’s attention despite plenty of staff working.
Felt like we were an inconvenience simply by asking for the basics.
A real shame as D&D restaurants usually pride themselves on delivering better than this.
P. M. K.
No need to be a big fan of German food to come to this place. The restaurant has plenty of options in their menu aside from the traditional German food. The place is huge yet cozy. It has a nice environment with friendly staff. Our waitress Matilda was lovely. And the food was delicious!
J. N.
Was there last night and found the overall experience nothing less than amazing..
Food really good outstanding beer and the best and most helpful waitress I could ever hope for..
Recommend 100%..
J. H.
Good spot for food and drinks near the train station. Large indoor dining space and some outside tables. Easy to find and a good selection of dishes on the menu to satisfy the group. The currywurst is a favourite.
I. M. G.
Went for brunch and can only highly recommend. Quality of the ingredients is top notch and the prices are more than fair for what you get. Wonderful space as well
D. B.
Not my first time here and certainly wont be my last. Was my wife's birthday and I forgot to buy a cake, instead they gave us the happy birthday plate. Curryworst was incredible, went there with some vegetarians and they really wished they could have a veggie version it it too. Place is so good it would convert a vegetarian for the night! Will be seeing you again soon
N.
The food was amazing. Huge pork knuckle with delicious crackling, sauce and potato dumpling. We almost ordered a side but it was not necessary at all. We had the herring and the beef tartar for starters. Both great as well. If anything I'd liked a 2nd toast with the beef tartar as I was missing some crunch texture for half of the dish.
A. Q.
Enjoyed breakfast and lovely few hours catching up with colleagues at the German Gymnasium. Beautiful setting and atmosphere.
w.
Decent basic food; excellent service; beautiful conversion.
However, it lasts atmosphere.
The food, even if decent, lacks creativity and is slightly overpriced for what is offered.
P.
I’ve been in GG several times since it’s been opened and it got so much worse during the past year. Food is below average, waiters do not know the menu, mess up things, table ware (plates, cups) is dirty, pink armchairs are greasy, tables are in a bad condition. I would not come back. GG had a great start and it’s a shame seeing it drowning
L. K.
The nice and convenient place to meet with friends. The brunch menu was pretty good and the price was reasonable for it. Has an amazing big menu of wines and other drinks. The food was good, but not the best. The main course was overcooked. The staff was friendly and professional. Just if you are looking for a quiet place this is not the best place for it. :)
E. L.
Good food and service! Especially loved the pork knuckle and the apple strudel, and really appreciated that the restaurant provided a small slice of cake for our celebration :)
j. h.
Such a nice place. I've dined there before (excellent food and a great place to meet out-of-towners who might need to catch the last train home) but this afternoon just had coffee and bar snacks. All credit to the bar staff: really charming and happy smiles on a grey Sunday. Try the cheese board: great with a glass of wine and coffee.
Z. T.
Very nice atmosphere, Large selection of spirits and excellent cusine
P. M.
Schnitzel galore. Great ambience and service is top class here. The German/Bavarian menu is excellent and can recommend the veal schnitzel or pork knuckle. Both large portions and tasty. Also the desserts are great with wide choice. The Black forest gateaux is lovely.
L. M. M.
Fantastic restaurant and bar with very welcoming staff. The building itself has rich history and they have done a great job with the place. Food is good and drinks are reasonable priced. Perfect for eating or just drinking.
H. L.
Amazing schnitzel and struddell! with bold flavours and a great beer selection it's not one to miss!
L. K. D.
Really cool building literally opposite King's Cross St. Very attentive service and lovely food. Interesting menu with lots of German dishes... As you'd expect!
M. V.
Ordered a 3-course meal from the Christmas set menu. The food was authentic and portions were more than generous, took me back to when I visited Germany.
The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, given that it was leading up to the Christmas busyness. The place and setting was muted yet warm and inviting.
Would definitely come back there.
K. G.
I came here on a date 5 years ago, we sat outside under a heat lamp and had a great time. Today I came with my wife at it is every bit as good as I remember it. Thank you for the quality of both the service and the food!
O. C.
Had a birthday lunch here, lovely table outside, great menu with famous vegetarian and vegan options (plus amazing dairy free desserts!). Lovely service and nothing was too much.
W. J.
3.5 stars it ticks the main boxes good service, okay food, good wine list with a few Romanian wines by the glass and sparkling German wines. But it feeling of a pub chain layout decor that loses it stars. high vaulting ceiling that could be used for greater effect. Outdoor seating, small groups, pleasant atmosphere.
A. H.
Huge restaurant with a great buzzy vibe. Drinks quite reasonably priced but food is underwhelming. For £30 I would expect a fantastic Wiener Schnitzel but it was pretty small and dry. In Vienna they fill the whole plate! The service charge does not go to the staff apparently so withhold it and give your waiter cash if you like the service.
C. G.
Lovely place to go for lunch as the interior is so unusual & special with good atmosphere. Food good & lunch menu reasonably priced. Waiting staff friendly & efficient too. Plus it's handy as next to King's Cross Station so will definitely go again.
B. P.
We arrived a little early for our dinner reservation, so we spent sometime upstairs enjoying the atmosphere and the amazing cocktail menu.
The food was delicious and the portion sizes were larger than we anticipated so we were a little stuffed when we left.
We enjoyed the evening standard set menu and it's a great value option to trying a new place to eat.
J. T.
A nice dining environment from this converted old building right outside Kong’s Cross station. It seemed to be quite popular & full. We had a late breakfast here. Food was ok. Prices were mid-upper end. Services were a bit sub-standard & apparently room for improvement given the price they charge.
N. O.
Amazing atmosphere right by St Pancras. German music in restrooms. Huge spacious with a great, sophisticated vibe. Wide selection of drinks. Gourmet food. Oozes class...
A. A.
We had a table outside to enjoy our schnitzel (Austrian in the menu) and we were very very happy. Great food, great service, great outdoors.
B. R. W.
The food and service were great. I love the food here so much. The ibirico pork shoulder was soft and flavorful, the veal schnitzel with potato salad were tasty and The Apple strudel was delish.
S. R. D.
Wonderful atmosphere. Beautiful decor. Upmarket and fashionable. Great selection of drinks and food.
Next to the impressive St Pancras building.
A. P.
Really nice place and great atmosphere. The service was very good and fast. Food was delicious and the portions were very generous. Highly recommended!
M. W.
Fantastic food. Excellent service. Would definitely eat there again.
T. D.
As you can see in the pic the venue is so beautiful 😻 big and split over two flor amazing decorations inside and outside . Super friendly staff and fast service. Definitely one of my big favourite places in Kings Cross . Looking forward to come back . I hope soooooon ! 🍻
F.
Very busy place, food is OK but expansive for the quality. However the place itself is really beautiful and it's worth the time spent there !
C. P.
One of the best burger Ever, if you want a good burger forget about rest get the best if you ask me, I ate a lot of Burgers in my life made by famous chefs or famous brands, that’s one of the tops!
k. z.
Very nice atmosphere both inside and outside. The steak tartare is a dish definitely recommended. The service was good but not great. As for the prices they were good given the quality of the food. Would visit again for sure!
K. N.
Review is for the downstairs brasserie. I’m German and was skeptical but ended up having an amazing evening entertaining business associated last night. The menu is extensive and while not completely German/authentic, the selection is great and they offer some interesting twists on standard fare. The building and decor are both stunning and the service was faultless. Recommend for business dinners, parties and date night.
A. F. L.
It has exceeded my expectations, even though I waited for my steak 2x longer than everyone else from my table. It was worth it. Amazing, super friendly customer service. Would recommend and will certainly come back!
S. G.
Great location, stunning building. Really friendly staff. We really enjoyed the food. Very nice desserts!!
C. A.
Not bad. Very busy when I visited, which is no bad thing, but table not ready at booked time. Food is mainly German fair, schnitzel, wurst etc, again no bad thing. A limited range of other options. Toilets were a bit of a state, needed more regular checks. So not bad, but not perfect. Would go back again but out of peak times.
R. F.
Beautiful restaurant with excellent drinks, great food, and stellar service. The bar upstairs’ cocktails named after famous fragrances is brilliant. They have Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille, which is my favorite and it has been crafted into one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. We had an 1.5 hour wait but when it was over, the hostess came and found us and then the bar manager had someone gather our drinks and set them downstairs. The waiter and the food runners were very attentive and had great recommendations.
H. A.
Food was delicious. Service was excellent. The atmosphere was buzzing. Do make a reservation if you're eating. You can go just for drinks at the bar and they also serve some food at the bar.
K.
Great interior & fantastic cocktail bar downstairs. The cocktail drinks are really good and they have a winter special at the moment. The service was good. It does get packed during evening peak times, so do make a reservation.
A. M.
Delicious food, highly recommend 👌
M. W.
Large atmospheric venue with attentive and pleasant staff. Good food and drink. I'll visit again when I'm waiting for a train from St Pancras.
R. P.
Grade II listed surroundings set the scene for a very pleasant lunch experience just a hop and a skip from St Pancras Station. With more than a nod to the Teutonic name of the venue, the menu offers opportunities to sample Bavarian this and Austrian that, though there are plenty of staples from closer to home.
A very nice meal enhanced by attentive Fiore (excellent service).
C. S.
We had a family dinner here and the restaurant decor is very inviting and lovely atmosphere. Half our party had the three course set menu for £20.00 which is good value however the chicken schnitzel was a bit dry which was a bit disappointing. The service was good overall.
K. S.
Great atmosphere, decor & environment. Fast service. Nice breakfast at a reasonable price. Let down slightly by the quality of the coffee (not barista standard) and the maitre d' who didn't really say anything (we walked in, they stared at us, we asked for a table, they just walked off and we assumed we had to follow - not very welcoming). Waiter was friendly and helpful.
A. R.
Lovely European food spot in the heart of Kings Cross, food here is BEAUTIFUL.
I went for the Eat Out to Help Out deal and I must say that having the chance to try their menu at such a good price is a great way to use the discount.
I had the Herring starter, the daily special as a main (Wednesday stew) and the Sachertarte.
They have a very nice wine selection and surprisingly good coffee as well.
Make sure you visit this restaurant, you won't be disappointed.
P.S. Karina has been amazing! Very very professional
B. F.
The drinks were exceptional; the bartender added a lot of flare in the preparation. The Vienna Schnitzel was a little tough to cut. The truffle mashed potatoes were delicious. They also made us a special batch of the Spätz `n` cheese without lobster that was good as well. Excellent service and wonderful ambiance. A bit pricey, but well worth it.
M. C.
Very delicious German food. The environment is good and comfortable. Brandy Alexander tastes sweet and highly recommended.
C. N.
Interesting and popular restaurant. Food is good with an interesting selection of breakfast and lunch . The beer is excellent. Can be very crowded and noisy. Restaurant style is elegant and the bar is a good place to sit. Very convenient for the trains.
M. M.
Food was delish and authentic. Nice quality not overpriced drinks were flowing. Very buzzy place at lunchtime.
J. A.
We had a wonderful meal here yesterday lunchtime for a special occasion. Everything about it was perfect - the outdoor seating was great (we appreciated the shade on such a hot day!). The food was amazing- the pork knuckle really was 'giant' as described in the menu! The service was top notch too - Fiore really made our experience a great one (If the German Gymnasium team see this review please pass on our thanks to Fiore!). We'll definitely be coming back
A. K.
Review on Instagram @winejam - Seating inside and out, for small groups, reminds me of pubs chain, vaulting ceiling which would be great with more decor design that had some German design to make it stand out. Okay food, good service, wine list was different with a few Romanian wines just nothing special.
C. P.
This place is fantastic and I had the best burger ever with their special house sauce. Thrice cooked fat chips also amazing. Really great location in between St Pancreas and Kings Cross station. Definitely going back again!
A. H.
Delicious food, amazing decor, and fantastic service. I came here for a dinner with family and friends and we ordered the goose. They happily adjusted for our time due to someone running late, and made no fuss whatsoever about the delay. The food was absolutely amazing, and the goose was incredibly well done. I was not able to walk properly after all the food we had!
I think I speak for the whole table when I say we all greatly enjoyed our time here.
B. W.
Lively buzzy space, found us a table at no notice on a busy Friday evening.
Attentive friendly staff. Solid good quality menu...recommend the German Sausage

Came here just before Christmas, it’s beautiful! Festive decoration with beautiful bar. The cocktail menu is very interesting especially for fashion lovers. Definitely a place to visit if you want a decent cocktail and some fresh ideas.

As a German I came here with both moderate (we are not too easily excited) and high (I miss proper German food) expectations. The place is extremely nice, doesn't really matter where you sit, it's quite nice. The prices shouldn't surprise you after you decide to go to a restaurant, so I was okay with them.
My partner and I went for the Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) and Schnitzel.
These were perfectly normal, nothing special, but I enjoyed what I ate.
The Schnitzel was a bit soggy.
We also went for some dessert, the Black Forest Cake and the Apfelstrudel.
The Black Forest Cake had nothing to do with the original. If you know the original, don't go for it. The Apfelstrudel was alright but unfortunately tasted of garlic. Maybe a knife was used to cut garlic just before?
I would be happy to give the place another try but maybe with some mates rather than my partner. Overall decent experience but I am afraid I expected more.

Booked on the spot for later in the evening. Had to hand credit card to reserve: in case of no show you can lose £15.
Historical building that used to be gymnasium pre war time, and then offices, gallery, before becoming restaurant. Highest ceilings I have ever seen in any restaurant. Beautiful place
Have been served by Elvira or... Eleanora - loveliest person!
S. K.
Recent lunch visit in the Grand Cafe with a former colleague. I love German inspired food, service is excellent and the bill was lower than I expected for 2 courses plus drinks and coffee. Did I mention convenient location for people popping into London from both North and South? Not our first time and will be back.
N. L.
Great classic German cuisine, beers and desserts. Very attentive service and atmosphere. Can’t wait to go again and try more dishes.
T. “.
Very attentive and cheerful service. Always great to be back to have lovely food with nice crowd. Great and relaxed atmosphere with spacious table settings. The bar at ground floor is lovely and outside tables are very good too if weather is right.
A. C.
I have been there for New year's Eve and the menu available for that days was really great! The place itself has this modern and non design, with a whole wood ceiling while the rest of the forniture is black metal. I will definitely be back to try the "standard" menu.
E. P.
Great little slice of Germany in London. Like a beer hall in Bavaria - but smartened up considerably and without Oompah bands and lederhosen! Sophisticated luxury in the heart of Kings Cross
A. C.
Reviewing the bar upstairs. 3 stars because - beautiful building but the service is like you are at railway station Pret. Literally have to self serve to get menu, order and the bill. Good selection of drinks but my G&T had a dead leaf of mint but that is ok, I suppose.
C. H.
We flew over from Ireland to surprise my English sister in law for her birthday. We had been in the German Gymnasium a few years previously, so we chose this bar as we knew how it was laid out. As we were not eating here, I couldn't book a table, so you can imagine how disappointed we were when we arrived at the front door only to be told we couldn't get in as there was no space inside!!!
However, we explained the situation, and the staff sorted us out. A special mention must be made to our waitress Margot who went above and beyond to look after us all, and to ensure that the Birthday girl got the lovely (and tearful :-)) surprise that she deserved. Thank you Margot. If Carlsberg did waitresses......
C. G.
amazing food, fast service and very pleasant
A.
Lovely setting and great food. Marco our waiter was brilliant, so thanks to him.
L. T.
Booked a table for the Oktoberfest specials but the pork knuckle was sold out. Gutted!
Had the Oktoberfest burger, kasekrainer, sweet potato fries and mixed leaf salad. Overall nice and tasty, not too heavy or overseasoned but it is German food ultimately at Kings X prices. The chocolate and beer coupe was nice!
Everyone seems to go for the huge glasses of beer.
J. B.
Great service, great location and great decor. But, the food fails to deliver on taste and flavour, with a particularly sad potato dumpling on the butcher's plate. Overpriced wine and ok beer.
It is a very nice place, the menu needs more attention.
T.
Love this place! Lovely staff, amazing food and a wonderful environment. We did the £30 set menu deal which has limited but nice choices. It was our second visit and we'll definitely be back again
B. H.
Went for dinner with my wife and had a wonderful time. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We asked to move tables as we were right next to the kitchen doors and they were happy to help. Our waiter, Tommaso, couldn't do enough to make sure we had s great time. Food was excellent as were the drinks.
I. D.
Big & Beautiful place with a lot of character & lovely atmosphere. Wasn't too thrilled with the food. Great cocktails!
J. L.
Decent food, larger than expected portion sizes and nicely presented. Chicken schnitzel had a poor plastic texture rather than firm and meaty though. Nice interior space, but some seating is very tight and close to other tables.
L. G.
Tasty food with great service!
We got the butcher’s faire for two, and soooo much food omg! Two sausages, which were really delicious and well-seasoned; five, six pieces of chopped fried chicken with great flavors and taste; some roasted pork that were so tender and it just melted in your mouth; some thick ham. The mashed potatoes was less impressive, and the sour cabbage balanced the feast well!
The only complaint I might have is that this feeds three to four people instead of two.
I got the Weis Beer and the Gymnasium Gin and I loved both! The service was great and the decorations were so cool!
Love this spot!
L. A.
Ok, so google map says it's 59 secs walk away from kings cross, it isnt. It took us a little over 6 mins. Then again we were a group of 8 excited women and we're extremely chatty! The building is lovely, very grand and it was an old converted gymnasium, though I did spot a number of cobwebs above. It was very close to the old at Pancreas station entrance ( I remember what it used to look like! Pity I didn't have a mobile back then!) The front desk seemed a little disorganised.. too many front of house receptionists, through we did receive a warm welcome. They offered to hang our belongs and we were given a receipt for collection. We had booked a table for 8 and they only got this ready while we waited. Aside from all this we had a lovely waiter who always topped up our glasses with water, had a lovely smile and was very respectful. The food is seriously worth it. I had to go a second time with another set of friends. Food is reasonably proportioned, and well priced. I recommend the currywurst and I also recommend the salmon and quinoa dishes. I didn't use the toilets but I got a friend to snap some pics for me and I was told that they were very clean. All in all it was a lovely experience and i highly recommend it for get togethers, secret rendezvous and of course celebrating that special someone.
M. R.
I’ve been there twice and I had a positive experience both times.
Last time I’ve been there I had the salmon tartare as a starter and the steak as a main. Both dishes were superb.
The tartare was amazing, the fish and the sauce were both really tasty.
The steak was perfectly cooked.
The restaurant style is very nice (especially upstairs) and the location is very convenient (seconds away from King’s X / St Pancras).
T. S. P.
Lovely restaurant. Good value menus and fantastic food. We had the smoked salmon tartare, the spinach ravioli and the beef chilli currywurst and all fantastic. The warm chocolate brownie was supreme! 100% recommended!
J. F.
Fab place to sit & have a drink while you await your train as London King's Cross just across the road.
As soon as we sat down we had glasses of water brought to the table, we just had a couple of glasses of lager & pretzels that the server brought to the table as we drank.
Food prices as you would expect in London & the food did look really nice.
Great atmosphere in the place & staff very happy & friendly.
V. B.
Very tasty food and nicely presented, not that you expensive. Recommend!
M. H.
Beautiful bar next to chatting cross station. This German place has so much history and the inside design is fantastic.
I heard they serve a great brunch too.
W. W.
Nice starter, nice mains and nice dessert. Fantastic venue and great atmosphere.
Even a visit for a glass of wine or coffee is worth it. Reasonable price, fantastic venue and served with a big smile.
R. G.
Nothing out of the ordinary. Basic meal, basic service and basic ambience.
Took ages and 3 people to get butter and even longer to get the bill.
S. M.
Great Christmas eve dining experience!
R. C.
It's in a great location to be sure. The food is German inspired and was tasty all round. Service was relaxed and attentive. It's a big place, so although they have tried to lay it out to make it more intimate, it wasn't entirely successful. Very loud. But worth a visit.
T. S.
Near King's Cross station. Warehouse type restaurant. The ceiling is terrific, high and the atmosphere is good. There is a wide selection of alcohol and food, so you can enjoy it day and night. In my case, the hotel was close to the neighbor, so I was saved in the rain.
M.
Great service and meal in a historic building. Their Christmas meal was more food then I expected. They also have great bar service. Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting london.
A. O.
Pricey so would keep it for some kind of occasion. Food was really good, specially the cheese sausage (which I've had before... So tasty). My friend enjoyed her Schnitzel (and for £25 a plate, thank god). Our waiter was particularly lovely and gave us great recommendation (Tommaso based on the receipt). Knocking one star off because of the price but I'd probably be back
A.
Smashing place with the best staff in the world!
V. P.
Really cool and historic interior, and dressed up yet still delicious German food. Pricey but not unexpected given the location. Would go again.
E. B.
Excellent restaurant in the Grade 2 listed gymnasium. A fabulous building, sympathetically refurbished to house a restaurant close to Kings Cross. Service can be a bit slow when it’s busy. Interesting menu and first class food, would happily recommend
D. L.
Lovely building, nice decor, friendly staff, Wheat Beer was sublime!
a. s.
What a fab place and can only imagine how buzzing and fabulous it must be in non Covid days.
We were seated outside in the terrace and even though it’s out on the street, it’s still charming and enjoyable
The food is great - portions and quality!
Will def be back on post Covid
J. M.
Attentive staff. Great location. Didn't eat but heard good things about it from friends. Maybe next time.
R. B.
We tried out the £20 a head eat out to help out menu, and found it fantastic value. Reasonable choice, well cooked German inspired food. Can be booked online. We ate inside as it was cooler.
No trace of any stuffiness,or of slow service as reported by others. Get down for a real bargain. Beer is good too.
J. H.
Now this is a busy place kings Cross Station prices really surprised me . Open kitchen so you can see food being prepared very impressed
J. D.
A very pleasant watering hole! 'Good food, wine and friendly staff, especially Evelina. I was looked after very well, as a lone diner and I noticed a few others in a similar situation.
d. l.
This is a nice restaurant, very easy to find. It was right in front of me, as I stepped out of St Pancras Station.
The waiting staff were helpful. The food and drink were good. Pleasant atmosphere in there.
I would go again!
J. D.
Beautiful place with a cracking atmosphere. We only came in for a drink but were still seated quickly. There's self service at the bar, table service will add 12.5% to your bill.
I'll be back for dinner next time.
C. F.
Really enjoyed our night here.
Ate upstairs in the restaurant, but actually think the downstairs area would be be better.
We had some kind of meat / sausage platter for 2, with lobster mac & cheese and triple cooked chips on the side. It was too much food! The waitress told us it would be, and she was right. Still...I wanted to try the sides, so my fault completely!
The prices are a bit silly. The sharing platter we had was per person price...I think something like £25 each. It wasn’t worth that. £35-40 max to share a platter would be more acceptable.
Also the steins of beer are fun, but again overpriced.
You’re paying for the restaurant here I think. It is a nice place and the service was excellent . But I just hate paying that little bit more than what it is worth.
R. S.
Absolutely stunning ambiance. A very unique restaurant. Great food - German food - British execution. Excellent service. One of my favourite restaurants.
O. &. A. U.
Great spot for cocktails close to Kings Cross station. Their take on an Old Fashioned is fantastic, as are the German beers. Looking forward to returning to try the food next time
A. V.
Every time I’m in London, I try to dine at German Gymnasium!
It is a beautiful place with very nice staff (and there is a lot of them). The food is always fresh and really tasty - nothing to complain about.
The place isn't cheap but it worth every penny!
G. L.
Lovely restaurant with a good straight forward menu. I've been twice now and will definitely be back. Staff are welcoming and service is very good.
N. T.
Wow, what an amazing building, an old Steam Train shed. The restaurant is large, lots of covers but still with good service. Food is very tasty with a good selection of German food and also fish, steaks and vegetarian options. The German pilsner of lovely. Definitely recommend
A. B. (.
Good quality food, very good service, polite and helpful staff,
J. S.
A really beautiful experience and wonderful food. It is an awe inspiring space and genuinely felt like a special experience. I was taken as a birthday treat so can’t comment on prices but the food was excellent. I had squid to start, exactly the right level of crunch and salt, followed by the tender insides.... the rest of the meal was equally good but slightly hazy after the birthday drinks.....
A. V.
We went for my 40th birthday party last night at German Gymnasium and it was everything we expected. Huge menu to choose from and the service was second to none.
K. T.
Beautiful building serving traditional German dishes.
We had the afternoon tea and was very happy with the vegan cakes. They were very tasty. I did find it a bit small for the price.
The building itself is beautiful and this is a great place for a fancy meal. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Staff are great too.
The downstairs seating area was relaxed and not too noisy.
s. h. C.
Well designed restaurant. Food wise is quite tasty, but breakfast portion is slightly too small. Would recommend the main dishes.
G. R.
Absolutely fab place. Around the back of Kings Cross Station. This area used to be awful. It’s lovely the restaurant serves great food in a beautiful setting. All reasonably priced and you will leave happy, full and very contented. Very highly recommended
D. J.
Delicious Kāsekrainer and sauerkraut, which isn't too vinegary like other warm ones. But little over priced I'd say! Very 'grand' looking atmosphere inside but outside is more relaxed cafeish feel. Impersonal, professional service, but they did forget one of our drinks.
K. W.
Incredible festive spirit. Food is a bit overpriced but it has all the ingredients of tasty and no-one kicks you out after 1.5h of being at the table - really bonus when you want quality time x
A. P.
Very nice place, where nobody feels out of place (Familys, young couples etc). Food was absolutely superb (i had the winter special grilled chicken breast and butternut squash). Perfectly cooked chicken, great portion size. The whole menu is pretty authentic (as says my German girlfriend). Overall, its not even expensive. If you can get a table, well worth it.
P. B.
Having cake and coffee at the German Gymnasium was a treat! We enjoyed authentic and delicious Black Forest Gateau and Apple Strudel. They might be a tiny bit more expensive than the average cake you might get in London, but it's worth it.
The Restaurant itself it quite big buy still cosy enough to not get lost in a big hall. The staff is accomodating and quick.
It's located directly next to St. Pancras, so easy to reach.
C. L.
Really great place with a bustling atmosphere, rather nice food and excellent beer. Friendly and diligent service. Definitely recommend!
D. C.
Great staff, great food, Nice building too. Overall a very pleasant meal. Will be coming again soon.
K. S.
When is about a good cocktail or mock tail don’t hesitate pop in than take the first train from Saint Pancras to shoot off to Paris and stop to Duc des Lombards :) for a jazz infusion
S. M.
Great restaurant and food overall was excellent aside from the Black Forest Gateau which was overly boozy and tasted of nothing else. Service is friendly but slow - possibly due to staff shortages. Would definitely return just not worthy of a 5* review
P. C.
Great Location! Fantastic interiors and amazing staff! If that's not enough the cocktails and food is top notch! Definitely recommending this place!
V. D.
This restaurant has sensitively incorporated it's German heritage. Built as a gym by the German community in London during the 1850s certain features of the gym have been maintained such as the innovative timber roof and the original hooks from which the climbing ropes used to hang. The art also references the foreward thinking inclusion of women in the gym's activities. Also the cappuccino was delicious and the wide selection of newspapers makes the coffee reasonable value, plus the unique atmosphere.
W. G.
Good food, nice atmosphere and great pint. Would highly recommend
K. A.
Very beautiful place and arcitecture, especially in December with the Christmas tree. Starters are expensive and not worth it, curry wursts and schnitzels are amazing.
k. e.
I absolutely love this place. I work opposite and is a regular for me. The staff are fantastic, the mixologists and their cocktails are among the best I’ve had...I like to sit at the bar and ask them to make me something different, they seem to really like that and get involved if you want chats. But equally respect privacy too - they just get it right.
The food is also amazing. German sausage, can’t go wrong...also recommend their beetroot, goats cheese and walnut salad, tasty!
S. K.
Lovely building, good service, but food only so-so, was expecting better for the price. Good for a nice bite before your train though. Nice German beer selection, and Austrian Red wine pretty good too!
M. A.
This place has really fancy and pretty interior. We had mulled wine and elderflower cocktail and liked it.
I. R.
This place is an absolute food and design gem! I appreciated how seasonal the menu is, when I went there it was full on "spargelzeit", (asparagus season) so they had an entire asparagus section on the menu. The menu is german inspired and they managed to make it very tasty! The apricot crumble dessert was the highlight for me. Excellent wine list too. The attention to detail in the design of the space is carried thru to the toilets as well, with traditional popular german music played in the background and that quirky wallpaper that really carries the theme on. A feast for your tastebuds and for your eyes!
S.
Had a great lunch there today, the food was gorgeous and it's in an amazing old building with a nice atmosphere, I would recommend it to anyone.
M. L.
Very good restaurant all, non-book tables downstairs booked tables upstairs. Good food menu but slightly shortstaffed so expect to wait.
-.
This was one of the most superb dining experiences I've ever had. Food was 12/10 and perfectly done.
The level of hospitality and friendliness I got from the staff and most especially Michele was definitely one of my highlights of London. Anyone that wants to know the bar for restaurant hospitality look no further. I got into wonderful conversations about Scotch and Aged Rum. Michele told me of his favorite rum that they no longer had on the menu. When dinner was wrapping he came out and presented the bottle like so and offered me a glass on the house. We ordered some cigars and sat outside and enjoyed the London evening. Sipping on the best rum I've ever had.
I wish I could come back sooner but life in the states calls to me, all I know is that every visit to London from here on in will include a visit to the German Gymnasium.
Thank you again Michele.
I. G.
German delicacies... Sauerkraut, bratwurst, Weiner
Schnitzel, served up in a fine way. The schnitzel was thick cut, succulent and breaded very finely, easily an 8/10. The butchers table was a great dish to choose if you're not sure which cut is your preference... A cute old fashioned pan is bought to you filled with spinach / cheese sausages, ribs, and roasted cut meat, with potato dumpling & a large mound of sauerkraut, each piece of meat as delicious as the next! Give this place a go, and do not forget to order the apple strudel, if I could give something 11/10 this would be worthy hands down!
A.
Grand place, the echoing voices and bustling staff ferrying pilsner about the place lend a busy beer hall feel but with a fine quality of food and service they're known for.
F. D.
Excellent food with an impressively large selection of wine. The Rib Eye steak was very tasty and the Choclate Ganache is amazing. The building is large and very busy so the service is a bit slow but very much understandable. Highly recommended.
T. R.
Absolutely wonderful... amazing breakfast n Marco who was our waiter was absolutely fantastic!!!
Definitely will go back here. ❤🥂
N. D.
Very tasty meal and surprisingly well priced. The building and interior were something else. STUNNING.
We were a big group with kids and the service was immaculate!
Every intention to revisit
A. M.
Try the Smoke Beer ...and Currywurst :) We've always had a good experience here. Quite grand because of the high ceilings. The fact that it used to be a gymnasium adds a bit of quirkiness to it. The food is authentic German and compares well with what we have tried on trips to the German mainland.
R.
Lunch here with colleagues was great. Excellent food (we shared the roast goose) and service.
F.
Very nice place both downstairs and upstairs where it feels more like a proper restaurant with small tables and a nice atmosphere. Staff is very attentive and polite, service is quick. The only reason I wouldn't give a 5 stars is that the menu doesn't warrant the prices in my opinion.
B. R.
Very beautifull place! At the ground flor there Is an atmosphere informal, with a bar, tables for eat very good food. Upstair there Is a more formal and expensive restaurant. Staff professional, quick service.
M. E.
The food was good and the service super fast and friendly. Our waiter Evelina later surprised us with a little birthday cake for my friend which was a nice gesture.
I. D.
Lovely building and interesting wine selection. Good service. Food is German themed but not particularly inspired and expensive
t. k.
perfect place. great atmosphere, lovely abd delicious dishes. staff is marvelous.
definitely gorgeous place.
R. L.
Great place for a fancy meal! But loved the bar upstairs!! Great place to catch up with friends or casual drinks on date night!!
A.
Absolutely loved this place! Both my friend and I ordered off the sausage menu and were very pleasantly surprised at how reasonably priced (£12 - £15) these dishes were given the quality and portion size. Delicious cocktails as well (slightly more expensive but well worth it) and wonderful ambience. Definitely a place to visit if you're in the Kings Cross area.
N. Z.
(Apologies for lack of food pics - will update )
Magnificent and grand building for this German-cuisine restaurant. Think Great Gatsby decor with the main dining on the ground floor overlooked by the terraced first floor which houses a particularly fine bar and additional dining tables for when it gets really busy.
Definitely worth booking in advance to avoid disappointment
G. D.
Busy German-style bar. The building is incredibly beautiful, staff are helpful and the beer and food were good. However, the temperature was all wrong (too hot when we were there) and it was a bit over-priced...
J. K.
Great service and location. Menu is a bit limited and drinks came late. Would recommend when in the area
A. P.
Exquisite restaurant! All the Christmas decorations made my night magic.
The food is amaaaazing and staff very professional and very friendly.
T. W.
Food is good, but our starters orders were mixed up and main dishes took too long to arrive. Will be back but only for a cocktail.
S. F.
The restaurant is in an indoor gymnasium that was built in the 1800’s. It is a gigantic, voluminous room with high vaulted ceilings. The fine dining restaurant is upstairs on a ringed terrace that circles above the casual dining lounge bar below. I went on a Wednesday night and it was full both upstairs and downstairs, hundreds of people chatting, eating, drinking and laughing. The place hummed with the sound of a city out to have fun. The food was excellent. I had salt and pepper squid to start and then the veal schnitzel. Both dishes were just slightly creative enough to make them unique but not strange. The squid is essentially an interesting (good) version of fried calamari. The veal was ultra thick but still breaded as one would expect. My business friend had the steak which I have to admit I wished I had ordered. It looked delicious. The wine list was good. We decided to play it safe and had a Chablis, but I will go back to try the German and Austrian whites. They had a great selection. Nice people. Nice atmosphere. Good food. Great place near King’s Cross.
M. C.
Had burrata as a starter. Kind of like a mozzarella with a gooey centre. Superb! Fantastic beer, wine, sausages...just a great place and so near to kings cross!
S. E.
Fantastic food and drinks! The service was also excellent! Everyone should try it at least once!
R. G.
Beautiful design, great lighting. Really plush. Great for a meeting or an impressive dinner date. They've transformed the inner building into a 5 star hotel feel but without the snootiness
P. P.
Excellent location, grand & spacious design, excellent and attentive customer service.
A note on the prices- we felt that the food was overpriced for what it was, however if you consider location, ambience, light & spacious interior and impeccable customer service, you would still be satisfied with overall dining experience. We had a great time.
V. D.
Decent outside area and inside the decor is very nice. Did not try the food but it looked good. Drinks are on the expensive side but to be expected in this area. Despite being near the train station you feel far away as it doesn't seem as busy at this spot. Worth checking out if in the area.
R. S.
Marco, our waiter - made this experience incredible and so inviting. The restaurant is sensational, the food was brilliant.
s. f.
This is one carb heavy affair. Therefore the irony of the restaurants name is slightly more apt because you will need more than trip to the gym after gorging on this German faire. The room and setting is better than the food. Although that doesn’t detract from it being tasty. The house red a Romanian Pinot Noir is decent, although perhaps a little light if you are choosing something like curry wurst as it doesn’t have enough tannins or bite to work with this particular dish.
A.
Lovely building, pretty decor, flowers & plants galore… nice food but 2 sausages, some mash potato & crispy onions, were literally no better than I could’ve made at home. For the price, food should be outstanding when you eat out - not the same as home made, yet three times more expensive.
J. J.
Nice place, good food and atmosphere. Nice apple strudel and ice cream are exceptional!
R. M.
Fantastic place! We had breakfast here (GG breakfast) which was delicious, served with lovely bread. Their coffees were very good quality. The service is excellent, professional. The whole place has a feel of excellent quality. Great location, too!
T. B.
Loved this place awesome decor very helpful staff and good food all round. Try the Maestro El Presidente cocktail 🍸 it’s lively 🤯
M. A.
Lovely place, great food. Building is amazing and atmosphere really laid back. Staff amazingly attentive and even a casual bar if you want to stay longer or not eat. Love it!
A. M.
An authentic german/austrian culinary experience. Prices a bit on the higher end, but worth every penny. Will return.
K. L.
The food is very nice and the restaurant is lovely - however, a bit pricey for what you get.
I. J.
Fantastic place, would be five stars but service a little slow because they were very busy. Highly recommend.
J. W.
Why did we used to call German's krauts? Because the sauerkraut here was excellent - as delightful as Germany itself.
The sausage was fantastic...triple cooked chips however were undercooked 3 times one assumes.
Stick to sausage and sauerkraut. Both delicious.
L. B.
The place is gorgeous, the food a bit less. Well, I am not a fan of truffle flavoured food, unless it is real truffle, fresh and sliced onto the food. Prices are ok, that is, you pay what you get. Yet they have a stunning salmon tartar and one of the best eggs royale.
e. n.
We went to this place with my adult daughter for evening meeting.
It's very nice and cozy place.
We real enjoyed fantastic food here and normal prices.
Thanks a lot for friendly manager Evelina for her smile and excellent service!!!!
Jelena and Irina
G. D.
Great food in a really unique space close to St Pancras and Kings cross, we had excellent service from the wait staff in the cafe area downstairs and I much prefer sitting down there enjoying the cavernous feeling of the ceilings. The beers and cocktails are great and the food is an even better german affair.
B. A.
Great restaurant with amazing food and very nice staff! Highly recommended.
M.
Good food, good service. A bit noisy on the ground floor so when booking request a table upstairs.
K. A.
Being a vegetarian was skeptical initially but loved the dish recommended was the waiter and the wine was great too.
K.
The atmosphere is great but the food isn't up to scratch. Second time I've been and was disappointed both times. The schnitzels are pretty small for the price you pay. The bratwurst is ok but they load up the plate with sauerkraut (gross) and not much potato so you're basically paying for a plate of fermented cabbage.. won't be going back.
L. T.
Whether it’s breakfast or an after work drink, German Gym is the place to go in the St Pancras area. Service is consistently good, as is the food.
On our last visit, the team was even very flexible, and never showed their understandable disappointment, about a last minute cancellation for a large table.
M. C.
The currywurst is just excellent. Little pricey but worth it. The atmosphere om the grand cafe floor is very elegant and the decor is gorgeous. The upper bar area is a little cramped.
s. f.
Interesting service...chips slid off a close diners plate enroute to table...glasses smashed..Fawlty Towers esq...Belvedere martini was amazing as were the desserts...not worth the high service charge!!
F. S.
Pricey but great. Such an awesome space to meet and chat and the food is good to. If you haven't booked say you would like a drink in the Lounge Bar upstairs and they will generally find you somewhere upstairs - particularly in the day time.
s. g.
I've visited twice in the last month, food was good and our waiter was funny! All in all, good venue to meet for dinner. For those who drink prosecco, try their German alternative, it goes down well with the mackerel! I didn't give five stars because of the table we got, it was too small for three diners, difficult to fit all our plates!
O. F.
Great food, wished the schnitzel would be more traditionally flattened. The Schupfnudeln with truffles and vegetables were amazing.
S. O.
Great place to have a fancy drink and dress up but not cheap and the only issue no atmosphere music as such or it would be 5 stars from me
L. B.
Staff are absolutely brilliant. Food and wines delicious. Thank you!
A. L.
Love the atmosphere here. Great selection of food and drink too plus good for kids.
S. S.
Fun atmosphere and wonderful food. Had the schnitzel sandwich at brunch and it was delicious with generous portions.
K. S.
Visited here again after 3 years. Last time I was here it was an interesting tasting menu based on asparagus, with a beautiful setting and attentive staff. Tonight was OK, nothing better than I've had at other German restaurants. Gerenric menu and the waiter didn't seem to interested. For example didn't even bother to wipe off the table after dinner, just dropped the dessert menu and left. It was my birthday dinner, he brought a small birthday dessert at the end but again didn't really engage with us. Service felt like any generic restaurant. For the price of the meal, I felt that the food and experience were not representative. I'd consider giving them another try in a year, but tonight I was left a bit disappointed.
P. B.
Very nice surroundings, staff are very friendly a place to take your loved one for beautiful food and excellent servic
S. B.
Nice place , great food and good atmosphere. I was not so amazed by the food, it’s was just ok for me. I went for a cheap option (the hot dog) and my friend went for the chicken burger but main meal are in my opinion overpriced. Still a nice restaurant to go to for a catch up with friends and the staff was really nice.
O. F.
Nice atmosphere, professional service, and clean loos. Their schnitzel was something to forget. I accept that veal does not have the same intensity of taste as beef. But theirs had no taste whatsoever. A mouthful of breadcrumbs couldn't have tested any worse.
T. S.
Near King's Cross station. Warehouse type restaurant. The ceiling is terrific, high and the atmosphere is good. There is a wide selection of alcohol and food, so you can enjoy it day and night. In my case, the hotel was close to the neighbor, so I was saved in the rain.
G. B.
Never disappoints. My fail safe option for satisfying German food cravings. They even have a dedicated menu for vegetarians. I would highly recommend trying the spätzle and Knödel. The deconstructed Black Forest cake is delicious as well!
R. S.
We had our anniversary dinner here and were treated so well by staff that it was an event in itself - - Clement and Jacob were helpful and attentive, and the food was delicious 😁
R. S.
Awesome location and interesting history of the building. Food was delicious and service very good. Only a lower star rating as the pricing was quite steep for the amount of food you receive and even a simple diet coke was only a silly 200ml bottle.
P. B.
Good food, friendly service, lovely atmosphere and great cocktails. Ask for the vegetarian menu if you want something else then a huge schnitzel, it's worth it!
M. C.
Great atmosphere, great food and excellent location. I didn't meet any Germans though nor did I do a workout, thankfully.
N. H.
Very impressive building and decor. Good atmosphere and very attentive service. Great range of cocktails serves in the first floor bar. German cuisine based menu which is ok but rather expensive for what it is.
E. F.
Great space. Good sausages. They cater for gluten free, but don't have information on the menus and was contradiction between what staff said and the allergen booklet
J. H.
Decent place with decent food and drink, handily located right outside St. Pancras Station.
K. G.
Good food! Great ambience! Dessert could have been better
R. W.
Very good service and food .the building was amazing.for those who don't know it's a restaurant not a cafe.
B. V.
Food was very tasty and great portion size. Service was very attentive but not intrusive. Great place to meet friends. Good buzzy atmosphere.
A. H.
Great food and menu, extensive drinks selection, nice building. Lively atmosphere too.
J. H.
Amazing building with a stunning vaulted roof. Pretty busy even on the midweek evening I was there. Typical prices for the area (London, not cheap!). We were put at a table with 2 chairs rightin front of a serving door that the senior wait staff did then give us some static about blocking - err in that case why even put set the chairs out in that spot?!?
D. C.
Food was delicious and always nice to have a stein! Really recommend the Oktoberfest Burger if you have a chance.
M. H.
Excellent food, service and location. Almost a must eat there / see if you are in London amd want to experience German food from the continent. Well done!
L. G.
Food was vey medium level, not exciting at all. The ice-cream desert was better than the main courses.
A. N.
We loved the German gymnasium. It’s a marvel of a building. We had goulash and herring to start which were both delicious. I can tell the goulash was slow cooked for hours to perfection. Then we had currywurst sausages and a club sandwich which were also excellent. Our server was Miriam, she was so lovely and friendly. Highly recommend.
T. B.
Wonderful evening at the German Gymnasium. The staff went above and beyond to make our evening as special as possible. Service felt very personal, and food was divine. Will definitely recommend, as we can't wait to return.
F. A.
Great service, decent wine and excellent atmosphere but substandard food and that’s coming from someone who loves their German cuisine. My Wienerschnitzel in particular was dry and tough (no jokes please…) and the rest of the group didn’t think much of their meals either.
Been here a couple of times pre-covid and remember it being much better then so don’t know if it was just a bad day in the kitchen or what
J.
Such an interesting place! The building itself is really cool, and the menu has quite a few German classics on that I didn’t expect to find in London (obadzda, German asparagus etc) - I had the asparagus with poached egg which was great (if you like white asparagus).
Will def be back!
A. M.
What a magnificent space! Visited 10/29/18 party of 4. We ordered Nero d'Avola 17 red wine @£26.5 pounds price is reasonable for such an upscale restaurant. We ordered 2 bottles. Everyone was very pleased with their meals, so I can easily recommend Black Forest Ham £12.50, Salmon Tartare £10.50, Trio of Beets £9.50, Yellow Fin Tuna £14.50, Hake £24.50, Trout £15.50 and Veal Schnitzel £29.50. Also ALmond & Peach Bellini £11.50 was excellent. Espresso £2.35. The restaurant adds on £1 for Action Against Hunger. Even though this place is massive I highly recommend making reservations.
K. W.
Separate cafe and more formal restaurant in a barn-like building in the King's Cross redevelopment. Interesting German-themed menu. Good service.
D. H.
Excellent.... firsr time... just like in Germany. Highly recommended.
T. E.
Friendly staff, felt airy. Food and drink decent quality. Downside for me was it got noisy early evening and rather crowded. Prices are quite 'toppy'.
P. R.
The service was very good, our waiter was friendly, polite, helpful, professionel.
The food was very good. Except the lemon strawberry tart.. the base is too hard, too much. Beside this, my party and i were very happy, we are looking forward to go back soon.
C.
Super cool space beside the train station! Attended a friends BDay dinner there and while not very ‘traditional’ German dishes, it was still great food and service!
A. R.
We had an amazing time at the German Gymnasium. I have seen nothing like it in London with its towering ceilings, spacious interiors and extensive woodwork. The cocktails and food were excellent. We ordered the black forest ham, the currywurst and the schinkenknacker along with the sachertorte and the black forest gateau for dessert. The standout item was the currywurst. Definitely will come back here for the food!
I. Q.
Opulent without looking over the top. The service is almost impeccable, the food is usually on point and the outdoor seating area is heated so if you fancy people watching while having your schnitzel or apple strudel, I think this venue is worth it.
Booking are highly recommended in Post-COVID times.
P. S.
Consistently good food and drink. Always excellent service from waiters even when I came to collect a takeaway during the lockdown. Probably my favourite place for German beers in London. It’s on the pricey side but it’s worth it in my opinion.
D. P.
Great food and a great atmosphere across the whole place. I went with my vegetarian friend and he also enjoyed the food and the options they had.
n. c.
I walked in yesterday with a friend and we were well welcoming by the reception team.
I found an absolute amazing place.
Nice and genuine food
Good wine
Great service
Brilliant atmosphere
Worth another visit , or maybe more.
D. K.
Excellent place. Simple traditional style hearing as a starter. Main course I can't pronounce but sausage and lentils. So filling! It is Tuesday evening and the place is packed. We had merlot, full body, really good, I think from Hungary. Interesting! Nice meal. But wine is finished. More please!
S. M.
Very tasty, great service and a beautiful venue. I still felt the food was overpriced, though.
A. M.
Nice atmosphere and ambience. Good location for a drink and/or nibbles. Food is okay but worth noting that it’s not specifically good German cuisine. The ‘Flammkuchen’ (see pic attached) is relatively small for £11 and coming from frozen rather than freshly made. Portions are relatively small in general.
M. I.
Been there 7 times and have to admit-service is getting worse. How can you mess up an order of green tea and lemon im not sure, but they brought me tea without actual tea bag, just hot water and lemon 🙄
Stuff are not very welcoming, not a single girl from hostesses team bothered to say goodbye when we were leaving.
Food is still good but in my dish I've noticed some changes (put less yammy stuff). And honey thete is yellow water. Disgusting.
It used to be our fav local breakfast place. Not any more.
A. M.
Eaten here a number of times, including a NYE event. Always a great experience, both in service and food quality, very attentive. Highly recommend for a special occasion when you don't mind pushing the boat out a bit.
P.
In my opinion Kings Cross has one of the best restaurants in London, great food, staff made us feel at ease, friendly and a cracking atmosphere, I’ll be back very soon. Thank you.
B. F.
Really tasty food and great friendly service.
I. L.
Restaurant and bar serving a variety of food, with a traditional Austro-German slant. At dinner there were fixed and extensive à la carte menus. The food was good, simply cooked and presented. The draft hefeweizen beer was good. The full menu with prices is available on the web site.
The mid 19th century brick building is very attractive. Spacious inside. It really was built as a gym for the German community in London, opening in 1865, and has a gothic look fashionable in German architecture of the period.

I booked German Gymnasium for a team dinner on a weekday evening as I knew the food and the grandeur would inspire my colleagues. Service has exceeded my expectations. From maître d’ greeting and quickly moving us to a terrace table at Soulful Garden at our ask to table service throughout, service was excellent and discreet (German efficiency?!). We stayed longer than we expected to as we enjoyed the atmosphere elevated by live music from GEM band, well through-through menu and impeccable service. Thank you German Gymnasium. We will be back soon !
K. T.
This beautiful place never fails to amaze me. The food is incredible but more than anything else it's got such a gorgeous bar and layout. Perfect for every occasion ❤️
P. D.
King's Cross is a masterpiece of industrial design. A must see.
The German Gymnasium is a lovely venue. The food delicious, service very good. Price is quite steep however.
S. M.
Lovely delicious food .... I had the chicken and leeks... perfectly cooked. The restaurant looks unassuming from the outside but stunning inside.
M. O.
Lovely meal and great staff. I have wheat and nut allergies and our waitress was able to tell me all the dishes I could have or that could be adjusted for me. All my adjusted dishes came with a sticker which made me feel at ease.
H. T.
Went there for breakfast. Some of the best tasting food around! Servings are not too big, price can be a little dear.
F. F.
Fantastic! Great atmosphere and great customer service. We will definitely be coming back!!!
J. J.
Perfect as usual . brilliant service as usual and top food . only fault I would say Cocktails not great. Particularly whisky sour. Maybe it was whisky used but felt weak. Mojito was made well. Overall great time again. See u soon
O. M.
Wonderful building and well laid out restaurant - the high ceilings certainly add to the glamour of the place. Which is probably why they charge so much for the food with so little portions. Quality was ok. Service was great and attentive. Nice atmosphere and place to go out to but not absolutely my cup of tea.
A. T.
Expensive. Amazing food and lovely drinks! Staff lovely also.
D. S.
I found this place a little overhyped and they seemed to aiming to showoff more than serve. The cocktail menu also looks to aim for looking fancy then have drinks that have a consistent taste palette.
The service was slow and the cocktails were nothing to write home about. The pilsner was good though.
One of the drinks they served was on a coaster that had battery operated lights in it and sure looked fancy. After a whe the cold drink made the coster stick to the glass and then fell down as the glass was picked up. Fancy but not practical.
G. A.
Nice, versatile, management, liked the cocktails post-covid19, it is a shame to lose the character of the pre-covid cocktail menu, which was totally gin-oriented.....there had been complaints there was no gin-oriented cocktail menu, & they had that menu for years......a shame to lose that because of the coronavirus.
N. H.
Perfect. A lovely surprise to find this haven. No surprise for the high prices there. £6.50 for a pint of beer. Ouch.
J. W.
Surpringly good quality brunch! Thought it is a bit pretentious at first with all the hype about the interior and the “high tech” reception...
J. C.
Nice place to drink beer and have German food. Good service but can get very busy. Prices are high, but that's par for the course. Interesting history to the buliding also.
E.
Good setup and decoration, friendly service, but food was average though (maybe because I just came back from Vienna).
R. M.
Pre cup final brunch and pints of lovely dark ale. The sunny terrace was a perfect chilling spot. And it's with going just to see the quality of the interior refurb & decor... stunning. High quality food with prices to match... so not a place to go if you're feeling skint! I'll be back, for sure.
E. K.
I had such a wonderful time last night at this place! The food was amazing and most importantly the staff were lovely and very accommodating! A huge thank you to the team and specifically Evelina who was absolutely lovely! Defo recommend coming to this place!!!
E. D.
Very nice food, served very quickly and professionally. I appreciated that I came without booking during a busy night and the staff found me a table within 10 min. I put only 4 stars because it was a bit dark and very noisy due to the building set up I suppose. It s a great place to eat in an historic building. Snitchzel and Dessert were amazing!
R. Z.
Very nice atmosphere, excellent service, top cuisine👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🎅
j. p.
Very impressive venue, very good authentic German Food. Check out the private function room upstairs!
J. S.
Great place! We had 4 mains between 3 of us,m because we couldn’t decide. All were amazing. Smoked sausage probably the best, although currywurst and the hand rolled potatoe noodles were also tasty.
C. R.
Really surprised by the quality of food and service. Basically a good quality gastro pub that serves German style food in nice surroundings for a reasonable price. Service was very good too and I was provided with a poncho on a rainy day which was much needed. Highly recommended if you want eat Currywurst or other German delights!
M. W.
The atmosphere, was buzzing, food was great and the staff couldn't have been more attentive ,a little bit pricey but worth a visit.
I. A.
Excellent service superb, delicious food
D. A.
Great lunch with friends, did the 2 hours unlimited processo, great value, super staff and very tenative. Seating upstairs, too noisy downstairs.
E. S.
Great food & service, though a little pricy. Cocktails also looked fun.
S.
The brunch is really great value for money and it's actually converted me to liking potato rostis. I had the GG Arlington as well as the afternoon tea. Don't bother with the tea and just stick to the main menu. My dining companions raved about the GG hot chocolate. Great atmosphere too!
r. w.
Had a good main meal here but the Hazelnut chocolate mousse dessert was out of this world, if i was only allowed one dessert for the rest of my life this would probably be it
j. r.
Good atmosphere and good service. Only went for a drink. Bit on the expensive side but nice cocktails.
V. S.
Quite expensive for portion. I had veal schnitzel, fairly large but pedestrian taste. Comes with small portion of very bland warm potato salad, no bread, for 29 pounds. Then they added 12% discretionary tip! I hate that many restaurants in England are now adding tips.
K. H.
Massive venue with a cool atmosphere. Great service, good drinks and fantastic overall dining experence. Able to host large events on the 2nd floor balcony.
J. S.
Great as usual, post covid experience was amazing, they managed to have most of the atmosphere and make place secure, they are running full menu, you can also take out or order through deliveroo, booking a table in advance is highly recommended
C.
Excellent service and food, fantastic beers and cocktails, highly recommended
D. C.
Great meal with wonderful staff, so friendly and really good with being safe covid ready, their set menu is a great deal.
N. F.
Excellent all round. Service, quality of food and prompt service.
R. D.
We had our wedding reception meal at German Gymnasium on Friday and it was absolutely perfect. Everyone went above and beyond to make our day extra special and I cannot thank all the staff enough for the perfect hospitality! The service was incredible, the meal was amazing, the setting/ambiance perfect and our glasses were always full! They even made us a personalised menu title which was the cherry on the cake! I highly recommend to everyone 🌟
A. E.
Really nice place! A Colombian guy and a French girl service me and they were so friendly and nice. Nice food, nice cocktails and nice coffee. I will be back for sure.
J. E.
Fabulous restaurant with great laid back vibe, great food and wonderful service.
R. W.
Great German food (sausages, schnitzel, sauerkraut, steaks etc) reasonable prices in a beautiful old building. Wine list is decent and well priced, highly recommend for lunch if you want something with a minimum of fuss.
P. L.
Nice trendy bar. Good service and nice cocktails in a comfy bar. Would highly recommend.
S. T.
Pretty expensive for basic food. Interior is awesome and a nice bit of history around it!
r. c.
Great food, lovely place, great friendly and helpful staff.
I.
Pleasant business lunch. Good food and service in a lovely environment
E. R.
Good food, lovely environment, great service.
J. S.
My favourite spot in Kings Cross. Always visit for a glass of champagne when I arrive in the area. Alround great place for food and drinks.
R. B.
This place is ok. The atmosphere is good, and the venue is stunning. but it is very overpriced for what it is.
H. M.
Delicious food, great service and lovely setting. Can't wait to come back.
N. N.
Always a delight to come back for their great food! Do try their hot chocolate and their ice cream sundaes are to die for!
K. C.
Excellent vibes and super affable service. The menu was crisp and yummy. Will easily recommend this place to others. Affordable prices and big portions. Great job.
J. M.
It was aright. I've wanted to come her to a while after there was a bit of hype in 2017 or so. The food was tasty and the menu offered alot of the German classics. However, it was the finer details that German Gymnasium fell short at. The waitress serving me felt as though she wanted to be somewhere else. Quickly and efficiently doing her job, without many niceties or care. When I went inside briefly to use the facilities I found that the toilets were in need of general repair (chipped sink, wobbly door handles, dirty environment).
German gymnasium is ok if you're stuck in at pancras hungry before a train but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. It just didn't feel like good value for money as the price didn't relect the level of service I would expect. I would've felt equally satisfied getting a maccies
H. D.
Nice place. Good food. Not really really really german, so don't be afraid. Perfect service. Nice people. Great terrace. Always a perfect safe haven before taking the Eurostar.
Z. C.
The staff was friendly and the food was amazing. The peach salad was soo good I would like one more of that pls!!! 😜😋😋
O. M.
Delicious food and phenomenal service. Highly recommended!
J. B.
Great building, good vibes and a warm feeling and ambience - the architecture inside is a real treat especially the cathedral like roof, and the food has always been excellent when I've visited.
Recommended if you're ever in the area. The upper floor offers more private but cosy dining experience good for couples.
W. h.
A beautiful restaurant with generous portions, reasonably priced and excellent service from our waiter, Nico. He was friendly, attentive and professional and made our evening very enjoyable. Edgar was also very friendly, would definitely recommend .
A. C.
Only popped in for cocktails, of which there is only a limited selection. However place looks worth a proper visit so I will return.
E. C.
Found the brunch left us hungry however service was lovely.
J. H.
Love the stein and the burger is one to try as long as you are hungry! Upstairs is nice for a quick drink at the bar.
H. P.
Lovely food , lovely atmosphere . Brilliant
P. A.
Brilliant food and atmosphere but staff unusually rude on our last visit! Maybe having an off day as been many times with no issues
M. B.
Amazing rib eye steak and schnitzel, but not the most helpful staff
T. M.
Very nice restaurant, food was good and the place itself is quite stylish
W. &. P. H.
delicious food, great service only issue was being seated outside where everyone was smoking, there should be a designated smoking area outside and non smoking food area. Sad to see a child coughing surrounded by smoke. But other than that was great!
M. S.
Amazing building, delightful food. Mezzanine seating is best
E. S.
Another excellent meal at German Gymnasium. Very attentive service and wonderful cooking.
E. E.
In the middle of St Pancras. Good transport links. Good choices on the menu and delicious food
M. K.
Pretty cool place, dishes are tasty and really big. Prices are not cheap, but if you want to have a good lunch, this place is a good choice.
A. A.
Upscale spot with fun cocktail offerings at second floor. Super close to the major train station. Great for a dinner date/ grab a drink and share a dessert with your girlfriend.
K.
For valentines day, we ordered one of their DIY cooking boxes (lockdown edition), including three courses. Being a native German, I got to say the food was absolutely delicious and very authentic! I would even say the best Geman food I had in years, even better than some restaurants in Germany itself!
T.
As an Austrian - obviously very cautious on reading German/Bavarian dishes in London. Food was absolutely on-point all over. Prices are good for London and for the service you get. Staff is an absolute five-stars, from getting seated to the service to your table. Great drinks too - can only highly recommend, and will recommend to others too. Thanks for the great night.
L. S.
Food was nice but a little over priced in my opinion.
D. B.
Interesting menu. Pleasant staff . Lovely old building . Right next to Kings Cross and Saint Pancras.
A. T.
Very nice customer service, delicious food... Booked for my neices birthday and it was wonderful. Will come back and definitely recommend to others.
S. S.
Great atmosphere and service. Would suggest the schnitzel. Great cocktails!
K. H.
Magnificent building to be in. High end menus, extensive wine list, well considered interior. But perhaps some of the clientele could be a bit nicer. Some staff seemed impatient. Service at the bar was slow.
M. M.
Lovely food. The drinks are very well made as well. Beautiful decor
T. a. l. i. F.
Good hearty German food just steps away from Kings Cross station.
C. S.
Beautiful restaurant, great food, easy to find. One issue, rather loud inside restaurant but I’ve been in louder restaurants before.
Fantastic schnitzel 😄
E. P.
Thank you so much to Michele to make our wedding anniversary a magic moment, despite current circumstances. Covid19 has impacted everyone life but the fact that we we able after so many months to enjoy a day out as normal as it could be meant so much us. Thank you to Michele, and the staff in the kitchen that made it so special for us and I could not be thankful enough.
Michele looked after us and has provided and outstanding service. The food was also great. Thank you all.
M. R.
Beautiful building. Interior is stunning. Grand stair cases on either side of the dining hall. The height of the ceiling is overwhelming and it’s lovely to look up to the wooden beams.
I can’t comment on the food menu as I only went out for drinks.
Not as pricey as I expected after walking in taking in the atmosphere and decor. It’s top end of pretty standard pricing for London cocktails. One thing I didn’t enjoy was the odd smell about the place. Like a very strong cheese. They serve German inspired dishes so it could well have been strong cheese. I think they need to figure out away if containing the cheese smell to the kitchen.
But it wouldn’t put me off going again.
L. C.
Went for the Eat Out to Help Out deal. Venue is beautiful! Food was delicious! In venues that big I usually have staff treat you like cattle - shoving you in and out. But they were very attentive and friendly. Overall a really lovely evening!
A. P.
Had a fantastic dinner here. Beautiful building with a modern designer interior. Food was fantastic, can recommend everything.
B. C.
We all like the Service, the staff is very polite .
I do not understand why the food is barely warm.
I so love the schinken knacker, but the whole dish
Is hardly warm ,why???
j. E.
Absolutely stunning environment, a nice lunch or dinner date would feel extremely looked after, complete quality.
P. M.
Nice menus, lots of choice for vegetarians and non vegetarian too.
M. M.
Lovely staff and ambiance, heart of London. Good food
C. v. d. V.
Beautiful place. Interior is based on the heritage of the building. Friendly staff and had some good drinks. Feels open and accessible.
N. F.
Fun atmosphere and good service. Kings Cross is quickly becoming one of the go to areas in London. Would describe the food as solid, by no means in a derogatory way.
L. T.
Nice services and good food, but with complicated menu. If you need a full breakfast, you need to order at least from three different sections.
C. N.
Visited many times . Great ambiance and service spot on . Great breakfast
J. r.
Unusual but stylish venue with great food and service. Definitely will visit again.
D. B.
Really good lunch - starter, glass of wine and dessert for £50. Good ambience. Perfect service. First class food.
V. K.
Festive decor, friendly staff, good beer. A bit expensive but you pay for the location and open space of the restaurant with bar on the balcony.
A. J.
Must go...out of world beers and good food . Super ambience
P.
A little more upmarket than your typical cafe or restaurant 💎 great for business bites 🤝🏻💰
E. P.
The Butcher's Board was a glorious meatfest, the Weissbier sweet and moreish, the cavernous space a winning blend of European grand cafe and London hip, and our friendly waitress extremely helpful with choices, allergy switches, top-ups and more: she deserves a 6th star, but 5 will do for the rest.
J. M.
Table was sanitised before we were invited to it and service was very speedy despite a busy day, pricey for a pint but considering the location it was expected. Great atmosphere 👍
c. j.
Good food great service , lovely building
G. E.
Good at social distancing. We sat outside. Had umbrellas and heaters- comfy even though raining. Food great and they were easy abiut swapping items on menu around.
G. H.
Great food fantastic setting
S. W.
The service and interior decor stand out straight away. The menu, beer selection and fancy toilets further complement the venue and I'd go out my way to return to this place with friends or family...
H. W.
Lovely atmosphere, beautiful food, great service
D. H.
Great food, great venue, great service and a fair price. I really like it here...
