Superb home-made meat pies here--light crust, tender meats, gravy that has been simmered to perfection. Avoid the touristy joints nearby -- the Cutty Sark, for instance--and seek out the places locals in the know go. Large portions, including a big plate of broccoli, carrots and cabbage to go with you entree. Chips would be better if home fries, but what are you going to do? It's England.

Quite simply the most fun you will ever have eating dinner. Astounding food, it really does serve the best pie in London. Do not let anything stop you from eating here when you’re in the area.
They even allow you to bring your own wine, meaning you can take advantage of the wonderful selection over the road at Theatre of Wine.

A real hidden gem. Off the beaten path sort of feel. If you're looking for genuine home cooked British food, this is where you want to go. EVERYTHING is cooked fresh on the day! We're talking all sorts of pies, fish & chips, Ham, REAL mash potato and gravy!
Note: Owner prefers if you ring ahead of time so he can prepare enough food. Trust me, you do not want to miss out on a steak, mushroom and red wine pie.
L. M.
My friend and I were invited to have dinner here, never been or heard of this place. It was amazing no complaints, the pie was perfect, the gravy out of this world, the veg crunchy and the chips proper home made. I loved it. Considering I don't eat pies it was perfection! Highly recommend.
A. I.
The service was extraordinarily and the atmosphere was even more so, but the beef pie and the lasagna had little bit too much wine in it.
K. N.
Home cooked and fresh amazing pies. Don't let the pub scare you. Clean and friendly genuine staff

Went there for the first time on Saturday on recommendation. So glad we did. Felt welcomed as soon as we walked in and the warm atmosphere made you feel at home. Then it got better when the food arrived. The homemade pies are amazing as are the desserts and the icing on the cake was the host Tom who is lovely character and a credit to the Irish. Can't wait to go back and make it our regular haunt.

I have been going to Greenpea for many years. Really love the food there. Always hearty, healthy, tasty and very reasonably priced - especially compared to some of the tourist traps in the heart of Greenwich.
Sadly Tom, the former proprietor, passed away in 2019, but his excellent staff are continuing to run this brilliant little restaurant and it really is just like Tom is still there and keeping things just how he would like it.
My personal favourites are the chicken bites; steak & mushroom & red wine pie; as well as the spicy chicken wrap - all served with mash (or chips) and heaps of fresh veg and proper gravy.
Just don't be taking my regular table during the weekday lunch hour!
S. V.
This place was amazing, it is now closed unfortunately and is a cocktail bar, there is also Thai food being served in the adjoining pub, Hardy's Freehouse RIP Tom
A. W.
Great for watching soccer together with friends!
Sunday roasted meal was good!
M. M.
Very unassuming in appearance. Our server recommended the pie, there was two chicken and two beef to choose from. I got to sample each because I was with my family and we each ordered a different one... Wow, so good! My favourite was the beef and mushroom with red wine sauce, but they were all good. Pies came with steamed veg and mashed potatoes. The gravy was also on another level with the pies. Little gem of a place!

It is difficult to find better pub food anywhere else.
Food is home made and always fresh. Chef clearly treats it with a passion and has a great taste. Even the gravy is next level. Overall the restaurant has relaxed atmosphere and there is no need to wear a suit to dine here. You can sit down and have a great time without feeling rushed. I'd also recommend the desserts, which are also home made.
The menu varies depending on the day and what is available, which is a great thing! It also means food is not cooked weeks in advance.
S. B.
A fantastic home cooked Sunday roast. From an Irish girl it's the best ive had since leaving home 7 years ago. Tom is a fantastic host and he has a great team supporting him. I will always recommend this place to friends. Great food and fantastic value in a forever over priced city!
M. H.
Havent had a better roast, or slice of pie since living in the south (9 years). Obviously its quite common in the north to eat good pies on a regular basis. 😋
All jokes aside this place is some seriously good, hearty food. The gravy is the best ive ever had hands down.
The Pies and roasts are simple yet exactly what you want, no nonsence, proper food.
The staff are relaxed, they laugh and love a bit of banter, theres no element of rushing for them to achieve a turnover and replace you with new customers, and theres a feeling you could be in your own living room when seated.
Its a wonderful place. And we need it to survive through these times. The Green Pea is the embodiment of home cooked food in a local environment, avoid the tourost traps, and try this gem. It might just be the best pie in the south.
M. B.
Fantastic food, excellent and highly entertaining host. A true hidden gem where food is treated incredibly seriously and the Sunday roast taken to an art form. To top it all off the Guinness next door in Hardy's is one of the best pints outside Dublin!
T. B.
Utterly incredible food at a great price. You honestly can't make a bad choice when ordering, I've just had the best lasagne of my life. Tom is a great guy who clearly cares about serving deliciously comforting food. Be mindful to call in advance to book as it can be busy though that's testament to fantastic food.
O. P.
The reviews don't lie. Tom the owner is a true character and a legend of the area. He'll make you feel welcomed and no doubt have you laughing throughout the night. The homely decor and the fact that Tom recites the menu to you, brings a warmth and personal touch I've not seen elsewhere. And most importantly, the food exudes an equal passion and quality. Fresh, delicious and hearty portions at a reasonable price. All round 👌👌👌
S. B.
Lovely home cooked food and fresh veg cooked to perfection - not a soggy mess. The pies were to die for too. The owner is a real character. He draws up a chair at your table and tells you the menu from memory with a spiel he has got off pat - a true Irish gem.
A. S.
Great place. I loved my vegetarian pie. Usually i find veg pie horrible in England but I must say Tom cooks great pies. Just hope they have more options next time.
My friends liked their chicken and lamb. Portions are v generous.
J. O.
The Green Pea is great spot, with lovely food and friendly staff. It is situated only a short walk away from Greenwich's tourist centre and you would be very hard pressed to find a better traditional Sunday roast dinner in the general area, also the pies are possibly the best I have ever eaten. This is a family friendly location with very good food, fair prices and a traditional charm that is refreshing in comparison to the swarm of chain eateries invading the area.
Also worth noting that the general expectation is to book a table in advance.
J. L.
An entirely unique experience - with exceptionally lovingly prepared home cooking, we were made to feel very welcome, as though we were visiting an (eccentric Irish) old friend! There is no option to see a menu, as your host Tom will sit down with you and carefully guide you through his bespoke range of delights! Value for money was insurmountable - and still we were asked if we would like free top-ups of items to the dishes...
I would, however, recommend booking in advance as the place is fairly compact - but on the whole, a fantastic evening!
R. S. W. Y.
One of the best pies you can get in London.
We are old customers and we have been coming there since the very first time we discovered them on Trip Advisor. Rations are fairly large so often times I will just share one menu with my girlfriend. Veggies are free and you can always ask for more.
Tom is a very welcoming and charming guy, he always greets us and remembers our selections. I would recommend the Guinea Pig and the Chicken with leek.
M. K.
Good classic Sunday roasts on offer here, something that you will cook at home, so no where near gastro pub level. But an enjoyable experience and the waitresses have great banter.
B.
We had an absolutely delicious meal at the Green Pea. We didn't know that bookings are needed for Saturday but Tom kindly accommodated us. He sat down with us first and told us about the menu and we settled on the steak and Guinness pie with chips and vegetables. He makes everything himself and it really tastes like a home cooked meal. Thank you Tom!
C. L.
Great place for real pub food. Waiter was very welcoming, smiley and informational. Recommended the chicken and ham pie. Did not dissapoint! Best gravy I've had in a long time. Everything was steaming hot, amazing flavours. Highly recommend
S. D.
Whilst visiting my son in London we met up in Greenwich. He'd heard of a place that did mainly pies, the green pea. As we were hungry after a long trip from scotland we thought a good pie would be just the job. Not in the main part of town but a long past the maritime museum we were met by a jolly Irishman Tom whose enthusiasm for his pies was infectious. He has a routine in which he explains each pie and other traditional dishes with a great sense of humour. The food was delicious and freshly cooked . Not the most glamourousof places but we'll worth a visit. A decent pint of doombar ale to wash it all down. Nice to find somewhere unlike a lot of eateries is not pretentious. It is what it is and a great place it is too.
C. H.
Returned to the Green Pea after a year and after Tom's passing. The food was the same: proper Sunday lunch and loads of it. The staff are following the amazing standards set by our mate Tom. We wish them well.
S. d. L.
I think it's important to understand what this place is and what it isn't.
It's not the Hawksmore, don't expect fine dining.
But the pie was top notch!
The venue is completely unassuming and relaxed. The owner is a proper character in a good way, with a clear passion for the food and customers.
It makes a really nice break from chain restaurants and fancy places.
Good food, good Guinness, and a warm welcome...
I came in alone whilst out shopping, and had Beef pie and Guinness, which cost £15
I. S.
An interesting experience least to say, some will find the owner rude however when you have such high standard and passion for what the food should be, you tend to fight against customers who believe it differently.
The Ham, egg, and chips are to die for, with large portions, homemade chips, with deliciously spiced ham is the highest standard of irish cooking possible.
Not only does the owner know the menu back to front with every ingredient if you can get past the strong attitude the owner is a delight.
The only items in the menu that are gluten free are the Ham, egg, and chips unless you let them know in advance (in the morning for the evening food, and the previous day for lunch time the following day).
Would I go again? Definitely
Z. R.
The best pie in London and some great banter from Tom. Always a treat to go here.
F. G.
We came here very often until Tom died at the end of 2019.
We went back there yesterday for the first time and found it was every bit as good, both food- and service-wise as it ever was!
We shall certainly start going back there regularly in future.

You won't get better food in Greenwich. Half a chicken was the best I've ever tasted. Delicious ham and pies. Generous portion sizes and Tom who owns it is such a character and keeps you entertained!
A. S.
If you ever want proper pub grub, this is the place to go. Run by an eccentric Irish man who gives you a verbal menu. Real, proper Irish food. The pies are to die to for! The beer isn't anything to shout about (you'd think it was a chain with the beer selection in the pub next door) but you can bring in wine, especially helpful with the fantastic theatre of wine across the road. Well worth the visit.
E. A.
Lovely little place with a homey feel & the best pies in all of London!!! I will arm wrestle anyone who says otherwise- the steak & horseradish pie is my ultimate favourite! (Seriously it’s actually won the best pies in London!) If you’re missing home this is the place to cosy into. Ian & his staff work incredibly hard & are very pleasant & hilarious to chat with. There is no place like this in London & I’m so happy it exists.
Book ahead as not to miss out on all of the delicious drinks, food & pies! And well..you would think it would be a given because people are waiting on you as you’ve made the reservation but alas it needs to be said.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL IS
*DO NOT BE LATE!!*
My partner has gotten us into trouble *regrettably*..multiple times(yeah, that’s right, I threw him under the bus..he was late!)for being late but received juuust the right amount of deserved scolding from Ian & the staff😏 hahah. DON’T BE LATE! You’ve been warned.
A. P.
A refreshing and unique pub and food experience. Tom is a genuine character, excellent host and the food and beer were fantastic. Would highly recommend and will be back again soon.
T. C.
Fantastic food, great hospitality, amazing atmosphere! If you are in Greenwich, it’s a must. Tucked away from the busy centre, take a bus or walk for 8 mins from the market.
The pies are delicious, served along some refreshing steamed vegetables and home made sauces. Great vegetarian choices as well 👌🏽
A. K.
Had a fantastic lunch at the Green Pea and it all comes down to two things: Tom's hospitality and the amazing food. Tom is so friendly and attentive, you instantly feel at home and food is fresh, comforting and plentiful. The restaurant is like a grandma's living room - eclectic and homely! We will be coming back.
J. M.
Great friendly service. The best steak and Guinness pie, I have ever eaten.
I will go back soon, as I am hooked on the food after one visit. This place is all about great food and service.
J. T.
I had a nice time. The pub was grubby but the staff and customers were very friendly. If it had a face-lift it would definitely get four stars.
C.
Nice place. Lovely food. But can find Tom a bit too much to be honest my mother in law was shocked at how he told people no space available when they arrived at the doorway the probably came to see via the great reviews it's got written if I was those people I'd would have found it off putting to be honest to return.
J. C.
I love it here. The food is amazing. The man isnt rude just passionate about his food and thats a good thing right? And rightly so. Food cooked from the heart. I go there with my kids and my dad.my dad only eats fish and veggie food.Tom goes out of his way to make sure he has it. Treat him right and he takes care of you. Best food ever.highly recommeded. If i could eat here everyday i would. Me and my son had steak and guiness pie my 10 year old chunky cicken bites my dad fish pie and my daughter in law lamb shank. None of us left anything...Amazing.worth every penny
D. N. L. (.
This is a great place! Tom (the owner) is a really friendly guy and will personally make sure you're having a great time. And the food is amazing, too. Definitely recommended, both for the food and the friendly, familiar atmosphere.
J. M.
Still the best home cooked food in London.
A. R.
Fantastic. Tom is a complete legend. Food is really really good. The pies are fantastic and super tasty. This place is a complete treasure and anyone that appreciates something special and full of character will love it! 🤗
S. R.
We visited on a busy weekend and had no reservation. The owner and his staff were still able to accommodate us, we had the best traditional pie ever in the warmest atmosphere. I look forward to going back.
T. M.
Had a great dinner here. Pie, chips and gravy served by their friendly owner. Drinks very good value. Pie, chips, vegetables and a pint for £15
Would go back again!
E. C.
The cheek of the Irishman is legendary (and I'll love him forever for it). Every day he goes early to the market and gets the fresh produce for the day. It's the best home-not-home cooked food around.
P. B.
The green pea is a fantastic traditional Irish food environment. Served with good humour and Manners by the professional staff, definitely worth a visit.
M. A.
I came to Green Pea with the family during the week and it was fantastic. I have been on the weekend too but feel that sometimes it can get really busy. It was nice to eat in peace and enjoy the food. I would definitely come again....!!
l. b.

great as usual, Good wholesome English fare.
And friendly staff.
And if you want you can bring your own bottle.
J. H. U.
This is a surprise.
The food is so good (and simple) that you can overlook the location.
It isn't a place that would normally rate a second glance - not a great area and it looks a bit dodgy from the outside - but worth looking for.
K. M.
Pie's, Pie's, Pie's. That is all he had the day were were there. In fairness I think two of his daughters had just had babies that day so you could forgive them for that. The Owner Is Very carasmatic with the place having a very homely feel.
E. D.
We just moved in over the road and Tom was friendly enough to give us some plates cups and cutlery to get us settled in. Pies are the best I've tasted and the hospitality is more than you could ask for. Real gem
A. G.
There's no other place like it. Make sure you book in advance, and be prepared to spend your evening in an Irishman's living room. The food is spectacular.
j. d.

(Translated) I happened by chance two years ago, this year that I returned to the area was a mandatory stop! The Irish owner is very friendly and nice (if you can understand his Irish accent!). Outstanding Sunday Roast, Guinness don't even comment. Super recommended! I hope to see us again in the next few years

Super-consigliato! Spero di ricapitarci anche nei prossimi anni

(Translated) After a visit to Greenwich we wanted to eat english and here Google took us. And it was delicious. The condition was very friendly and patient, explained everything to us, was funny and very fast. The pies with the sauce were a poem, the vegetables crisp. The prices more than fair. We recommend!

(Translated) EXCELLENT! The pies (pie) are divine: copious, with various and varied accompaniment (broccoli, leeks, fries, carrots). On our side it was fish pies (mustard, onion, leek) and also beef with red wine sauce. An excellent moment. Not to mention the charming hostess and listening. In short, absolutely Perfect!

EXCELLENT! Bref, absolutely Perfect!

(Translated) We stopped at many restaurants on our trip to England, but this one is best remembered. The waiter not only politely greeted us directly at the entrance, but also took a lot of time to our delight to give us a differentiated and honest advice on all the dishes on the menu. We were able to eat some deliciously prepared dishes from nicely decorated plates.

(Translated) Fantastic. Not to be missed ! Maxi crush
Here is a very beautiful address discovered thanks to the positive opinions of Tripadvisor. A tasty meal typical of Irish cuisine which is matched only by the kindness of the owner. A moment that I greatly savored and that I look forward to doing again on my next visit to London. The dishes are typical, very well cooked and the wise advice of the friendly owner is a must!

(Translated) We went to dinner on Saturday to celebrate my son's birthday, and Tom was happy to allow our dog to be under his desk. Our son was at the University of London because his little sister said & (6 years old) if you go to London must go green peas! Very wise because we will always come when we have a meal. Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere & great service, just like visiting family!

(Translated) We were taking a walk around Greenwich and looking at where to eat using TripAdvisor. "The hidden gem of Greenwich" some said, "a charming place" others said, so we decided to check it out. There is nothing I am more glad of on this trip than to have walked into that lovely pub with the green door. Excellent treatment and better food if possible. All the time we let ourselves be guided by the recommendations that the waiter was giving us and he was completely right. Without a doubt I would return a thousand times.

I have to say that if you are lucky enough to live in the area or come here, this restaurant will definitely be your place. If you are traveling to Greenwich or other forms of travel, this place is worth paying attention to. There is a wide variety of specialties here, and the restaurant is friendly and welcoming.

(Translated) After reading the comments, I decided to book this home. Tom's host is a bucket of laughter and the food is great. My wife is a vegetarian and likes this person usually has Branbrette Allison. I can't recommend this enough. The interior of the hotel is very simple but very family friendly.
