Reviews of Gunpowder Tower Bridge
D. T.
This restaurant is right near Tower Bridge. I made a reservation in advance, this is a busy restaurant.
The menu offers a variety of small plates and sharing plates which cater for a number of different tastes, be aware veg options are limited. It is definitely a limited choice menu compared to a typical traditional Indian restaurant. The food was served quickly, I went for the small plates and ordered a number of different dishes, similar to tapas. All the plates were presented well and I would say we're all delicious. Relatively expensive but the quality of the produce in each dish can be tasted. Every dish was full of flavour and was unique.
My favourite dishes were the soft shell crab, tandoori chicken and duck, however everything was good.
The ambience is nice too, we had a booth, service was good. We ate well, so 3 of us with a drink each, the bill came to £213. Probably a little over what I would normally pay, however worth the spend to sample some unique cuisine. I would recommend this as a treat, definitely wouldn't be a regular of mine, reserved for special occasions and treats or if you're looking to impress a date!

Quality food and interesting menu, very popular which definitely needs booking in advance. Recommend to go with friends and order multiple small dishes so that you can try out different things! Their cocktails are good too!

Indian restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere. The food was on the whole quite good. The beef rib is a popular menu item but I found it to be tough. The chicken was delicious.
R. S.
My first time visiting this restaurant and it definitely won't be my last. The food is incredibly flavorful and plentiful in quantity.
We ordered the beetroot croquettes which were probably my favorite, along with the Rashmi kabob and vermicelli donut. My dining companion was incredibly excited to get the venison vermicelli donut. The filling inside the donut was absolutely delicious however the actual bread and vermicelli portion of it was under seasoned. The sauce that it comes with was really nice and tangy.
The beef rib which we got as our main, was absolutely delightful. The one thing I was longing for was some naan to mop up the sauce. It was a beautiful rich sauce and while we ate it with the rice that they offer, it would have been much better with naan.

Had an excellent meal here. Cocktails were on point (the gimlet was a highlight), and the dishes were a really successful blend of authentic Indian flavors with modern preparation. We did the 60GBP set menu: the soft shell crab stole the show but the tandoori chicken, egg curry, and lamb were all solid. Service was attentive and helpful with suggestions. Highly recommend.

Staff very accommodating to seat us in after arriving early on a wet, rainy wednesday.
The Egg Curry Masala was true Indian small plate. Many other dishes are of the European palates / anglicised dishes eg- Beetroot croquettes and Tandoori Broccoli.
The Prosecco gets served in an ordinary wine glass but that the way Gunpowder does it.
Jack fruit rice was spicy and authentically spicy. The vegetarian tasting menu was nice, had to taste the soft shell crab - which was perfectly made

Absolutely brilliant.
The level of this place is absolutely different to anything you’ve experienced. Starting with the food which is incredibly good but also the service. This is the best service I’ve ever received. The waiter and owner are lovely people and they will work so hard to give you and unforgettable experience.
Best service and food in London? No doubt at all! I’m absolutely impressed!!! Definitely coming back!!!

Great Amazing & Delicious food!
Warmly welcomed by a gentleman named Wellington who took care of us from the beginning until the end. Great friendly & attentive service.
Absolutely delicious, fresh and well seasoned food very appealing. We ordered soft shell crabs, prawn Madagascar, aloo tikki chaat, egg masala, tandoori, rice, bread butter pudding, triple chocolate brownie.
Very close to Tower bridge. Warmly recommended.
L.
Set menu has a good portion
Food is good but for the price we paid not that impressive
Prawn is spicy but I like it
Jasper from the team said he recommended the crab
Team all agreed that brownie and espresso martini are good 👍🏼

Overall, a lovely evening dinner. I would have liked to see more large plate vegan and vegetarian options, as there was only one. Between the two of us we had three small plates and one large plate. The Gunpowder Potatoes, Beetroot Croquettes and Mustard sauce tandoori broccoli and they were very good. The saag paneer large plate was okay, hence more options would have been nice.
The main serving staff were very good, there seemed to be a lot of trainees about who couldn't take out order, brought us someone else's orders etc. which made the service charge feel a bit onerous.
J. L.
Great atmosphere and best lamb chop in town! Don't bother with the pork ribs (but of a Chinese sweet and sour dish) but starter selection is fantastic! Thumbs up
m. s.
Tandoori chicken was juicy. One of the best I have had. Lamb chops was perfectly cooked and right spice level. Saag paneer was really flavorful.
Chaat was also good. Could have done with a pinch more of salt.
Downside is the portion. You are paying a premium for the quality food (off course) but portion might disappoint you.

Went to this resturant a few days ago. Amazing Indian food with the right amount of spicyness! And I normally don't tolerate a high amount of spciy in my food.
Had several small plates (croquettes, salad and others) @and sharing plates (beed rib, pork ribs, catch of the day and duck leg) and can't fault any of them.
The wine was also very good.
It is on the expensive side but you pay for what eat!
Definetly recommend!
(sorry don't have more photos but it was too good to take photos instead of eating)

Great modern Indian restaurant! Seasoning was really great overall. Egg curry masala and soft shell crab tasted great in particular.
N. P.
Excellent food. Have been here a few times and the food never disappoints, consistently good food and and service. Would highly recommend the venison doughnut and mixed grill. Only downside is the extortionate price of the 1 beer on tap they have, half pints only!
J. P. (.
Overall was very good.
Food with perfect seasonings ,
Impressive tastes.
Bit uncomfortable tiny space seating at outside.

I'd been craving an Indian (I live in Italy and we just don't do it well here). Was a little disappointed when I first saw the menu as this isn't a Korma and Madras sort of place. However this can only be described as one of the most enjoyable Indian meals I've ever had. We tried to think of it a 'Indian Tapas'. Lost of smaller, interesting dishes perfect for sharing. Some dishes I'd never explored before and others, a more modern take on a classic. Service, atmosphere and buzz were on point. Quick but not rushed, good value and memorable.

Having passed by multiple times and hearing good things about this restaurant the wife and I decided today to finally give it a try. Despite being a Saturday it wasn’t too crowded, service was pleasant and food came quickly. We ordered the chaat, paneer, lamb chops and tandoori chicken as mains/sides, and bread and butter pudding for dessert. We unanimously agreed this is by far the best tasting Indian we’ve been to. Everything was cooked to perfection and just bursting with flavours. It is a pity though that they did not have naan on the menu (which would have paired excellently with the dishes), and we both thought the lamb chops were rather pricey at close to £40 for relatively small portions. Worth a revisit.
v. s.
Loved experience. Work in shard but never knew that I had this amazing restaurant near me. Venison, ox cheek are the top starters. Lamb chops and paneer saag are the best from mains. Loved the overall experience and amazing value for the money you pay. Did not find it expensive at all and we all were full and super pleased at the end.
Clair was the best part of our meal. Very entertaining and engaging.
M. L.
The service here is incredible. Treated like Kings and Queens honestly the best service. The food is absolutely tasty. For a great dining experience i would recommend eating here. Classy, authentic and tasty. For me, the dessert was incredible rum bread and butter pudding. I could have eaten plate after plate of the dessert.
G. S.
Excellent sharing plates. Love the aloo chaat.
Varied menu with fish and veggie options. The tower bridge location also has a nice outdoor space overlooking Tower Bridge.
A. Y.
Great food, good cocktails! The duck and beet croquettes were really good.
A. G.
We didn’t find what we wanted to eat as we were looking for some kind of Paneer gravy and butter naan with some rice dish for our Lunch….
We ordered Aaloo Chat…it was super amazing…absolutely amazing Indian authentic taste…
Special thanks to Joanna for amazing customer service 😊
T. I.
I'm not a big fan of Indian Restaurants in London (no offense, but there are not many good Indian restaurants in London) but Gunpowder is good. Their chicken, Lamb, and beef are halal but check with staff before ordering.
Their tandoori chicken is very delicious. The vibe of the restaurant was good too apart from the smell of agarbatti. Please don’t burn it!
Overall, it was good and I recommend it.
R.
Tasty Indian food - Every dish was delicious and very well presented - friendly and helpful staff - definitely recommended
N. H.
Incredible good service and drinks. Really loved it
Y. K.
A relatively expensive, yet excellent experience at an extra-ordinary location!
Ambience: Second to none. Wonderful lighting indoors, and a modern, cozy seating outdoors. We chose the outdoor seating and had a partial but nice view of the tower bridge. The high-rise buildings around, and people walking the street add to the interest of people who love to watch city life.
Service: The staff were very attentive and courteous. They made some good suggestions from the menu, and gave us enough time to choose our food and experience it.
Food: I must admit that the options on the menu are limited when compared to a few other upscale Indian restaurants I have visited in the UK. However, the quality of food was good enough to compensate for that. We ordered a vegetarian starter and a venison pulav for main course, both of which were excellent. The pulav was particularly amazing, and is one of the best Indian rice-based dishes I've had at restaurants in the UK. A note of caution - the food is a bit expensive here, and may not suit everyone's taste, but we were helped by our excitement of a first-time visit to London and the "eat out to help out" scheme available at that time.
Overall, it's one of the best parts of our short trip to London, and I'd recommend it!
C. M.
My first visit to Gunpowder later Tower Bridge, London for a pre-theatre supper. I was initially disappointed with the range on the menu. However, this was my mistake and when the dishes emerged from the kitchen I tasted some of the best regional Indian cooking I have had in a long while. I can highly recommend the beetroot croquettes, the absolutely sublime tandoori chicken and the kale, aubergine and goats cheese salad. The lunch menu also looks very good and is fairly priced. A winner and definitely a place I shall visit again - in fact within the next fortnight. And there aren’t many places which gain that sort of accolade. Highly recommended.
J. K.
Amazingly awesome flavourful food. Its a merge between traditional Indian food and new style. It feels modern and rather unique. Some dishes I haven't tried or in their own variation of style. Portions are not big and rather small, but some here to fulfil your desire of tastes and experiences.
A. S.
I loved the Gun Powder in Brick Lane so I was soooo looking forward to having a meal here after a long lock down......but I’m sorry to say, I was rather disappointed. The quality of food is nowhere close to what I remember (yes, memory is always beautified and higher expectations are a dangerous thing but even so) and i felt it was really overpriced 😩
s. b.
Food is alright, effectively just standard curry sauce but poured over more expensive cuts of meat, hence the price hike. Service is strange, staff tried to clear our plates twice before we were finished, I would arguably say they were desperate to take them. Also, the chap who delivered the mains couldn't remember what they were, so he started swearing whilst he tried to remember. A little bit weird
W. L.
Delicious contemporary Indian food. Very good, highly recommend this place, be sure to book ahead.
s. k.
Staff is friendly, and the food is tasty. Unfortunately this location doesn’t have lollipop chicken drumsticks, but the lamb chops are always amazing! We also ordered the kale salad and okra fries which were both very tasty! Another thing we ordered was pork ribs - the portion was huge but the flavor was alright. The only one thing is that the food came out lukewarm, which is a disappointing.
A. A.
Phenomenal food! Everything is cooked to perfection and flavors explodes in your mouth. All food is served in small dishes, which makes it excellent for gatherings and sharing.
The ribs, lamb chops, alo chaat.. table necessities
Staff are the nicest, very friendly and proactive.
The location deserves a star of it own, located in the breathtaking area of tower bridge, so no shortage of a place for a nice walk before or after the meal.
Don’t forget the order pudding for dessert, very delicious!!
Cocktails are very very good in here as well.
Price average is £50 per person, more or less depending on your appetite.
J. W.
Fantastic place for a group meal. Lamb chops, duck leg and sea bass (part of the seafood platter) were all fantastic. All dishes were cooked to perfection. Ribs were also very decent size. Finished off with a rum soaked bread and butter pudding. Highly recommend!!
T. L.
It was my partner's birthday so I booked dinner at Gunpowder Tower Bridge. We shared a selection of vegetarian plates and they were all stunning. Great flavours and super tasty. I loved everything and want to go back soon! The interiors are lovely, the staff were very good. A great place for anyone who loves contemporary Indian food or wants to eat near Tower Bridge. Check it out!
S. M.
We went here on a fairly rainy and windy day, so unfortunately we couldn’t sit outside. The okra fries and aloo chat was really delicious. Overall, the presentation and taste of the food was really delicious. I would definitely come back on a sunnier day to sit outside and get a view of the Tower Bridge.

Never thought that Indian food could be this interesting! 😍
I wasn't a big fan of Indian food until last night. 😄
The ones in banana leave is steamed fish in mustard dish that looks and tastes similar to one Indonesian food called "Pepes Ikan", which is also steamed fish dish. But instead of using mustard, the Indonesian version is using mixed seasoning of turmeric, ginger, lemongrass, chilli, bay leave, and I don't know what else. 😆
Very recommended for the best Indian food so far in London! Definitely will come back to try the other exotic menus! 😍
If you're starving and a big eater, they have a super nice big setbmeal for two for £35 pp. Fancy for brunch? They have nice brunch menus too!
R. I.
What I ordered:
The Gunpowder Chaat
Lamb Chops (It’s halal)
Triple Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla ice cream
The Chaat was perfect! The imli (Tamarind sauce) tasted amazing!! Nailed the South Asian taste in England. It complemented the yoghurt great too
Lamb chops had a good piece of meat on them, although it was only one. The Chutney (sauce) made up for only one tho as it was amazing. I finished the sauce even after ravishing the chop.
The brownie is great when combined with the ice cream! Although, a little dry, for me personally, on its own.
J.
Brilliant food. Similar sort of cuisine and flavours to Dishoom but overall I enjoyed this place more. The restaurant has a nice classy vibe. Attentive but not overbearing staff made it even better. Definitely recommend the kashmiri lamb chops(perfectly charred, tender, flavourful), oysters, soft shell crab(crispy and flavourful) & saag paneer!!😋🤤
T. B.
Ordered the sharing platter for 2 which includes grilled chicken, brocoli and prawn. For starters we got gunpowder chaat and beef skewers again, small size and tasted ok, but not great. Not sure how these items went together, felt randomly put together and small portions especially for the price that it all came to. Service was good.
M. N.
I'm a fan of Indian food, and though I don't mind a simple local takeaway, I do appreciate the lesser known dishes and enjoy trying new things.
If you're looking for something a little different then Gunpowder is fantastic.
The service was also great. They may attention to detail and all the staff is really friendly.
My wife actually ordered my dish while I parked the car, and at first when she said she picked a duck leg, I was a little apprehensive.
Boy was I wrong.
Fantastic flavours, spicy enough to say it's proper Indian food, but not so spicy that it overwhelmed the entire dish.
Great presentation too and our two year old baby girl was a big fan of the fried okra (very family friendly and they have high chairs if needed).
All in all a great experience.
I'd definitely go there again
D. D.
Delicious food...prompt service. Wasnt expecting this popular Bengali starter...beetroot "chop"
S. H.
Actually relatively disappointed. Took family here instead of an Indian next door and thought food was very average. Went for a mainly veg set of dishes but sequence was bad - aware it's tapas but rice coming when you've had most of the other dishes is just silly. Also the courgettes were stingy and tasted mainly of garlic. Paneer was fine if lacking distinction, kale pretty oily. Sauce in the broccoli dish was the highlight and egg curry fortunately had some flavour. Desserts were better but fancy place which doesn't really follow through.
K. K.
Nice ambience, fancy Indian tapas restaurant, good service. Limited menu options. Must try dishes: tandoori chicken, grilled tiger prawns, ham and chorizo croquettes
P. S.
No roti! So I had to down star lovely place and the staff went out of their way to celebrate my husbands birthday
M. T.
Finally made it to Gunpowder Tower Bridge this weekend to see what all the hype is about. Admittedly, the food that we managed to order was delicious, but the overall dining experience was mediocre at best. The waiter was a bit brash and rude. They ran out of several of the dishes on the menu including dessert and the kitchen closed without warning. A week into the soft launch of their, not first, but second restaurant, I had expected more. Would I go back? Maybe. But based on first impressions, this would not be a restaurant that is high on my list of ones to recommend given the abundance of other restaurants choices in the vicinity.
l.
We went for the soft launch looking forward the same quality and flavours that the original Gunpowder has. Even though the food was tasty, well presented etc, didn't match our expectations compared to the original Gunpowder. This one seems more on the line of a mainstream Indian restaurant and not trying to surprise the customers with unique taste as the original Gunpowder does. Another thing we notice it's that the food was in the verge of cold, maybe because waiters bring it from the first floor. They have wine list and cocktails. Deserts were fantastic, so sometimes to consider if you have a sweettooth.
D. L.
Absolutely phenomenonal food and service. Harneet is an amazing business owner who's care for customers really shows through in every aspect of the dining experience. Tapas style Indian dishes allows you to try a variety of different dishes, and value for money is 👌🏼. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. The saag paneer and soft shell crab are delectable, alongside everything else we tried! Service is quick (despite it being a super busy night) and all staff are attentive and accommodating. Restaurant has a great vibe and seems to attract generally friendly visitors (not unlikely for you to strike up a conversation with those next to you). All around fantastic dining experience 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.
C. P. (.
We prebooked which was probably a good thing as the restaurant was lively - i doubt we would have got seats otherwise.
Was pleasantly surprised by the menu and quality of food. Service was attentive, fast and surprisingly we were not rushed out.
The close proximity of the tables meant that we got acquainted with both sets of diners next to us, it added to the whole experience of the place and we all ended up discussing how nice each dish was!.
All the dishes we ordered were up to scratch- the lamb chops and the broccoli deserve a special mention.
Definitely worth a visit . Can't wait to go back!
I'll try take better pictures next time!
Update: Went again last week, this time as a group of 10. Was able to taste a lot more of the dishes. Service etc was on point, although they did forgot to tell us the kitchen had closed.
The pani puri margaritas is worth a try, wouldn't bother with the rest. The rice portions and rabbit pilau are disproportionately large considering everything else is just about enough for 2 to share and they don't actually have that many curry dishes
The chocolate dessert was worth the calories.
If you're into your curry houses etc, this place isn't for you.
If you do try this place and like it and happen to be from south/sw london, check out Dastaan in Epsom. Similar but slightly more indian
S. P.
As the name implies, explosive flavours from their second outpost (after the Shoreditich original). All the dishes were excellent, but the real standouts were the chicken lollipops and the rabbit pulao (biryani). If you want big bold flavours, excellently executed, and family friendly to boot, don’t give this place a miss.
A. B.
Amazing food at a reasonable price. We went as a group of 4 and ordered all of the dishes seen in the photos, plus 2 deserts not in the photos. We enjoyed all of it. The broccoli in sauce was my favourite. The total bill came to £185 including service charge, which was very reasonable considering how much we ate. The staff were all friendly and polite.
I. B.
Definitely a place you'll visit again and again.
Adequately spiced food, a lovely ambience and courteous staff.
If you are only going to try one thing, try the venison & vermicelli doughnut. But who am I kidding, you'll probably be enticed by more treats on the menu.
B. A.
Incredible food. Highly recommend the tasting menu. I don’t think they were prepared for our appetites when they told us it was “all you can eat”.
V. M.
May be I'm about to be over critical but it's just I expect better.
1. Poor table management
We had a reservation for 2 at 9pm, and came early to request whether this could be changed to 4. We were denied, yet when we arrived at 9pm (only the 2 of us) we were seated amongst 6 empty tables, which remained empty for the remainder of he night.
2. Delays
It took over half an hour for our starters to come out of the kitchen. But, it was nicely acknowledged and complemented with a bowl of fried mini calamari rings
3. Errors in ordering
So our waited insisted we ordered the aloo chaat, when we do so believe we specifically asked for the lollipop chicken. To insist we did not was not good service (never ordered aloo chaat in my entire life)
But one could say it was our statement against his.
4.
Our delivery waiter was very nice. However, it is not comforting knowing that I must rush through my dinner. What I mean by this is he would come by and start taking plates away whilst we are still eating, and savouring and pacing. Ok if there is an empty plate, but not a plate with food still upon it. I found myself snatching at the last parts of the egg curry before it got taken away from us.
5. The food
The food was very good. The egg curry masala excellent. The banana leaf wrapped fish, again very nice. Although what loved most about this plate was the complimentary pickled cauliflower. That was spectacular.
We also ordered the lollipop chicken and half baby chicken. May be the lollipop chicken had a little too much masala and could have been slightly more crispy. Otherwise good. The half baby chiken came with a wonderful sauce. It was also present on a bed of salad (which we didn't get a chance to eat because the plate got taken away before our opportunity) that looked very appetising, drenched in the sauces from the baby chicken.
Overall the service let everything down. The food was good, but because of the service we denied even staying for dessert. So unfortunately no comments about dessert can be made.
It was opening week, but still many 'kinks' to iron out.
W. Y.
This is my local. Poised to try this place from day care one but it took longer until last week to get here, not just because I won their cookery book from a photographic competition.
It was a quieter-ish midweek lunchtime. The food was superb. The service was impeccable. Coffee, hmmmm, ok, could do with more oomph. But this this is my personal taste. Value? Hmmm, quite dear for what it was. Overall I enjoyed the experience.
S. S.
Please don't expect it be a traditionally Indian experience. The don't do nan or bread. Only rice with non vegetarian options as a priority. Taste is unique.
J. D.
Great food with a great
atmosphere. Very friendly and
accommodating! Real Indian food and something for all tastes!
R. I.
Beautiful restaurant with very attentive helpful staff. Food is excellent. Aloo Chaat was fantastic. The softest lamb ever.... All the meat (apart from the pork ribs) is halal which makes is a fabulous place for everyone.
M. N.
The food was nice and the service too, a bit slow though at times, and needed reminding. Worst thing was one of the dishes from our feast menu was not served. Sadly we realised only after getting home. So worth keeping an eye on the dishes that are served if you are ordering the feast menu - not just trusting the restaurant staff! Nice thing was that despite being 1/2 hour late in getting there, we did not lose our booking.
M. S.
The food quality is great and so is the ambiance. Staff is nice and the menu isnt too extensive. Only thing to be mindful of is that their serving portions are fairly small for a relatively high price. Expensive but the food does taste really good!!
Also, 10 points for unique dishes that I havent found anywhere else.
A. R.
The food is fantastic. The service a bit hit and miss (forgot half our cocktail order, forgot couple of the dishes we ordered), but a positive and customer friendly attitude. In my opinion that counts more especially once they sort out some of the order management teething issues. Given recent reviews, I was surprised to see almost no queue at the door (we had a reservation) through the evening - maybe put off by the reviews! We'll definitely be back :)
M. K.
Don’t believe the haters. Yes the queuing system is long winded at the moment but it’s a soft launch and one of the most sought after restaurants in London. Be patient and you’ll be rewarded. The lamb chops, okra fries and broccoli were fantastic. The aloo chaat was a little sweet and needed some crunch. The service was also great - do try it out.
K. W.
Absolutely perfection every time I go. It’s my favourite place in London to eat.
My menu favourites are the bhuna aubergine & crispy kale salad, artichoke hearts, grilled mustard broccoli, aloo chat and the Kashmiri lamb chops. The spicy venison and vermicelli doughnut is also a great choice for something a bit different.
I could eat their vegetable dishes all day everyday - definitely a place not to miss!
E. T.
Lovely Indian food. If you go in a group you can almost order the whole menu. Nice decor and good service. I would recommend if you want some beautiful Indian tapas dishes in a modern setting.
A.
Tasty food but rather expensive for what you get. Staff is not wearing masks.
Tandoori chicken tasty but not a lot of meat. BBQ ribs (21£) taste average. Lamb on the mixed grill platter was good.
S. C.
Possibly my favourite Indian restaurants in London. If you looking for something different this has it all. Has to be the best lamb chops in the country, and by a country mile! Also the soft shell crab and broccoli are of top quality and good flavour.
S. K.
Flavours are on spot, great presentation and delicious food. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has lovely vibe to it.
The spicy venison and vermicelli doughnut and chettinad pulled duck with the oothappam are a definite must!!
k. s.
If you think Indian food cannot be had without roti, Gunpowder will prove you wrong. They seem to have worked hard on creating a delectable menu of tapas style Indian dishes.
N. G.
The two of us shared seven plates and had to be rolled out of the restaurant. We had to take a walk around Tower Bridge to settle. Everything was tasty and bill came to about £70 with drinks so good value for money.
D. S.
Such a unique menu for Indian and Gunpowder is one of the restaurants that put London on the map for South Asian. We liked the aloo chat so much we ordered it twice and our little one loved the pancakes. Everyone must try their egg curry.
v.
Amaze tapas style Indian food, really tasty and highly recommend the egg masala, the soft shelled crab, and the lamb chop. The desserts were also delicious!
One star off for the slow service, it’s a shame but it really makes a difference especially when you’ve been waiting for ages to be given a table and are ravenous.
M. P.
Really loved this sharing menu, for me a unique taste on Indian spices. I love some good spicy food and this was done perfectly done and flavourful. Order the artichoke hearts and the broccoli! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. And the food came out incredibly fast. Thanks Carlos for the great service.
A. V.
Friendly staff, nicely decorated. Visited at lunchtime with my mother. Reasonable value for the area, although the main dish was sadly small. Great for a quick bite, or work lunch if you work or live in the are. One of the starters was exceptionally hot (I have travelled extensively and haven't found such a spice mix)!. Overall suggested if you are in the area and fancy Indian.
G. J.
Managed to get in without reservation for table for 2 - FLAVOUR EXPLOSION - Gunpowder Indian style!! We had oysters, venison donut, -lamb chops were to die for - (they are worth the money)! grilled broccoli and soft shell crab with a delicious sweet and sauce. This is not a normal Indian restaurant - it's the best flavour sensation going!! Service was excellent too!
M. P.
The food was good but not enough to justify the prices. Service was good. It was annoying that they only had one beer and they only sold it as a half pint, which they charged 4 pounds for.
A. F.
Great Indian fusion food and nice atmosphere. It would challenge your normal understanding of British Indian food, and it's reasonably priced as well.
C. D.
We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday night but they found a table for us and gave immaculate service.
The food was delicious, well seasoned and good portions.
We also sampled many of the cocktails which were well mixed.
Such an enjoyable experience!

Great and kind service, we were even served just a quarter before closing time. The food was superb and very creative: each dish served made us anticipate the next one even harder! Everything tasted fresh and authentic and was well seasoned. The only downside was the length of our holiday; we couldn't fit a second visit in our schedule!
L. V.
Average as there were good dishes and not so good dishes. Soft shell crab and chicken lollipops and lamb were good. But the cheese toast looked like something a kid could make.
C. K.
Really good food. Service was bad. I asked the waitress if the Prosecco was dry and she replied that Prosecco is sparkling.... she clearly had NO idea. So I ordered a cocktail with Prosecco instead but it was so flat and looks really poor. For a pricy place I would expect the cocktail to look a little bit more special. We asked the waitress if we could get the saag paneer vegan and her reply was: saag is spinach and paneer is cheese.... absolutely not helpful. But the food we ordered tasted amazing!!

One Tower Bridge is the new place to be! It has some fantastic restaurants in the new and modern complex and is ideally located right by beautiful Tower Bridge. There is something for everyone from cheap eats (Rosa’s Thai, Vapaino) to special occasions (The Coal Shed, Tom Simmons). It is also home to the Bridge Theatre which offers affordable tickets to the public!
We visited Gunpowder restaurant in Tower Bridge offering modern Indian cuisine. We had previously visited its sister restaurant, Gul and Sepoy (which sadly recently closed) which we loved so were rather excited! I was certainly not disappointed with Gunpowder. The menu consists of smaller and larger sharing plates and has a good mix of meat, fish and vegetarian. The restaurant itself is smart and the bar area (where you can eat) is gorgeous.
We were recommend to share 4-5 dishes between us (3 smaller and 2 larger ideally). We tucked into the Gunpowder aloo chaat (£6) which had great textures and flavours. One of our highlights was the Bhnuna aubergine and crispy kale salad with goat cheese (£8). There was tons of flavour in the kale – it was super crispy and the goats cheese (more like a sauce on it) made it even more moreish.
The Spicy venison and vermicelli doughnut (£5) was outstanding. The vermicelli was so light and the venison was just so bloomin’ tasty. The fennel and chilli chutney accompaniment was a real winner. It was spicy and powerful but not overwhelming. We absolutely loved this dish! We also tucked into the Porzhi Okra Fries (£6) were a great change from potato fries and were super crispy.
Accompanying our small plates we had a mock-tail (£5) and a Bow Barracks Gimlet Gin with Lime Juice, Ginger and Honey (£9) which was refreshing.
On to the larger plates we tried the Nagaland house crispy pork ribs w/tamarind kachumber (£9). This was a really impressive portion (or tower!) for the price. There was a decent amount of pork on the bone and tons of sauce. Lastly, we had the Kerala Beef Pepper Fry (£11). Sadly, this was not up to the standard of the other dishes and had far too much onion in for me. We wish we had tried the Kasmiri Lamb Chops but there is always next time!!
Gunpowder restaurant in Tower Bridge has some fantastic options on this exciting menu, from indulgent to healthy, there is something for everyone! The atmosphere is sophisticated yet unpretentious and we would recommend you visit for a fantastic meal or simply enjoy a drink or two at the beautiful bar!

Totally incredible food. The service was so on point and the rum dessert again hit the spot.
Definitely recomend this place for some nice Indian food
K. N.
Solid Indian food, fusion style with good flavours. Its one less star from perfect for me as it's a bit too saucy, I like dry rub grilled meats. Quite good value overall!

Went for the festive feast and it really was a feast! Everything was amazing, the prawns were particularly good. Service was perfect the whole night.
A.
Great place! Food is uniquely delicious. A bit more choice on the menu would be good if I had to give a critique but overall I would recommend trying this place!
A. M.
Good food - the lamb chops were pretty good. So was the saag paneer. Service was pretty good.
B. S.
We had a wonderful time here - lots of food, friendly staff and good atmosphere. There was a large group of us and we had a set meat / fish / vegetarian menu and food was delicious, lots of diversity to it and big portions, we all came away full :) Walking distance from Tower Hill & London Bridge tube. Would recommend!
M. K.
The beef rib and mixed grill were great except perhaps the chicken items that were ok. Unfortunately, no kids menu so not much of a choice for the little ones as most items are pretty spicy. Overall good food but a bit pricey.
K. P.
Really good service and their prices are very reasonable. Definitely book a table and GO!
S. K.
Brilliant food!
Each and every dish has a character in it. Items prepared here have a differentiating feature a taste that justifies the cost!
Full of flavours invokes all of the senses, fully recommended Indian food by an Indian :)
M. R.
Delicious as always. Excellent service even with some new post-pandemic staff. So glad to have a Gunpowder in our local area.
T. M.
A tremendous experience. The food at Gunpowder was spectacular, with well-defined flavours and excellent cuts of meat. Particular highlights were the tandoori chicken and saag with paneer, as well as the venison donut. The menu is ambitious and works well in combination. The service was prompt, polite and friendly. The decor is understated but welcoming and comfortable.
D. B.
Really delicious!! They have small plates so you get to try a lot...and you’ll want to! Food comes out really fast, even on a busy night! I almost didn’t come bc of the small menu, but everything is really good, so glad I did!! Saag paneer and lamb chops steal the show! Cool place, w a good vibe, friendly quick staff
S. P. N.
One of the best Indian fusion restaurants with consistently good food. Take anything on the menu and you won't be disappointed. The wine selection is decent and its on the Michelin guide from 2020. Way to go!
Deserves all thr credit!
Our favourites, pork ribs, beef rib, duck leg, venison, chaat and soft shell crab.
R. J.
Superb service! went here for dinner on a date night and we were very happy with the food, and the service right from the start was excellent. The staff were all friendly, helpful and I will definitely be going back. 100% recommend. thank you!
J. W.
Sensation flavours. Really impressed and I'm not easily impressed.
Maybe they need one or two more vegetarian dishes.
v.
Amaze tapas style Indian food, really tasty and highly recommend the egg masala, the soft shelled crab, and the lamb chop. The desserts were also delicious! …

May be I'm about to be over critical but it's just I expect better.

Solid Indian food, fusion style with good flavours. Its one less star from perfect for me as it's a bit too saucy, I like dry rub grilled meats. Quite good value overall!

Absolutely amazing food, great service. I recommend this restaurant massively
P. N.
Reviewed as London was reopening after covid lockdown some restrictions were/are still in place...If you're a jalfrezi, madras or vindaloo person don't go here this is not a curry house, if you want an Indian that is different, tasty and full of flavour come here. Our group turned up with no reservations on a Saturday and were squeezed in,after going through the menu we settled on the £40 pp set menu which portion wise was just right,Staff polite, knowledgeable efficient. Bit more expensive then we were used to but worth it
M. B.
We booked a table during the first stage of lockdown where only outdoor seating was available. Upon arrival there was a heated seating area with wind protectors and the opposite area which had no heating and no wind protectors. We were given the area with no heating which should have been advised to us when we booked over the phone.
Food came out quick but was cold due to the metal tables and lack of heating or wind protectors in the outdoor area. It did however taste great.
Also please note, for some odd reason they DO NOT serve any naan or chapati. Considering the price, there are better options.
A. M.
Absolutely phenomenal food - I had visited the original restaurant in Spitalfields and have now visited the larger and newer branch. The food does not disappoint one bit! Went with a larger group, so we got to try all of the small plates! Particularly loved the chicken, the pork skewer, the kale salad, and the softshell crab! Definitely worth a visit, my palate was jumping with flavours from every dish. Definitely one you won't regret!
N. R.
Brilliant experience all round. Amazing food, great service, and a nice atmosphere - will be back for sure!
A. O.
Can only echo past reviews, portion size on the small size, would have been five stars but for this but everything we ate was delicious, so much flavour from the Beetroot Croquettes, Mustard Malai Broccoli, Beef Rib and will be coming back for the crab and lamb cutlets. Service was excellent too.
S. S.
Really good, flavoursome and quality food - will definitely going back to try the other dishes
S. S.
Fantastic Indian food, served tapas style! Though some of the dishes are delicious enough that a plate each is often the way to go (egg masala is definitely one of those!) Have recommended to people before and still do, worth a visit if you can.
A. M.
Absolutely amazing, food was delicious!!!
M. S.
Incredible brunch with some of the tastiest scrambled eggs I have ever had. Amazing service with special treats to celebrate a birthday. Had an incredible experience, thank you.
M. L.
First and foremost, fantastic food! Really well organized and the new wider layout is done really well. Very helpful and friendly staff. Not cheap but definitely worth it for carefully prepared and very tasty food. We had the sharing 'feast', which includes six sharing plates and a dessert each. Easily enough food for £35 each. Highly recommended!
D. M.
Nice place, really close to one of the best pict spot for the london Bridge. Food is really tasty, however its Tapas style could break the Indean Magic for some.
P. N.
Authentic Indian food, reasonably priced and simply delicious.
K. R.
Location, atmosphere and service was all very good. The lamb chops and okra chips were the stand out dishes for me. Would go back for just those two items. The aloo chat was a little disappointing, I felt it was missing a bit of a crunch to the dish. Baby chicken was just above average for taste. Overall, I'm glad I went but not one I'd rush back to.
c. w.
Fantastic surroundings, amazing food and great service
S. S.
Loved everything about it! My sister and I were doing a belated Mother's day lunch for us and my 74 year old mum. This was our first post lockdown meal and we were obviously a little nervous taking mum due to her age and health issues. We needn't have worried in the slightest. I called ahead and requested an outdoor table, explaining the situation. The gentleman on the phone was lovely and assured me that this would be fine. On arrival, we were taken straight to our outdoor table, which we had seen being disinfected as we walked up. We ordered the feast menu for 2 with some extras. The feast menu gives you a portion of pretty much everything you would want to order and then we added some chops. They had run out of the tiger prawns which was replaced with the soft shell crab. The food which is beautifully presented arrives as and when it is ready and, without exception, everything was delicious. The chops and the soft shell crab were to die for! The service was efficient, understandably without too much time spent near us, but warm and friendly at the same time. Most importantly for us, or rather my mum, we could see that they had really thought about hygiene and social distancing and our needs as customers. We were so full that we didn't take the dessert that is also included. At around £35 per head, it was worth every penny. My mum loved it too and as an Indian/Pakistani woman whose cooking is amazing, that's high praise! Can't wait to go back and try the tiger prawns!
Thank you team Gunpowder!
S.
Excellent food and speedy service at Gunpowder during the eatout to help out scheme. We had a few dishes from a la carte, including the venison vermicelli doughnut, the egg curry masala (spicy), pork ribs and soft shell crab, all delicious. They have a selection of Spanish and Portuguese wines.
A. S.
Very lovely small sharing dishes. I would say it is certainly a good competitor to Dishoom. A little pricey I would say- a bit more than the guides suggests if you go with the waiters recommended number of plates.
J. S.
We spent a lovely evening there. The grilled oysters are fantastic! It was a bit understaffed, but the waiter went above and beyond to make our time enjoyable.
r. E.
Absolutely incredible meal. Even more incredible was Joanna, such great service, always smiling and really made the whole experience amazing
E. P.
Went here for the first time recently after having heard about it a lot - reputation is very well deserved! So delicious and creative. Lots of Indian restaurants in London are way too standard with a tikka masala on every menu which thankfully you won't find here. One word - WOW!
R. R.
Excellent food and service - even advised us against over-ordering!
S. K.
Amazing India food experience, the best Indian restaurant in London
F. S.
Brilliant food. Similar sort of cuisine and flavours to somewhere like Dishoom but overall I enjoyed this meal more. The restaurant has a nice vibe that could either be romantic or relaxing depending on how you want to make it. Attentive but not overbearing staff made it even better. Ordered 5 dishes between two of us and couldn't even finish it. Will go back for sure.
S. L.
Starters and cocktails were great. Service was bit odd. Never there when you need them. Don't bother ordering the baby chicken, it's sooo dark from cooking and there is no meat on it. Left starving!
S. D.
Swisher and bigger than the Spitalfields original Visited 6.30 on Saturday. Place was fairly busy, but they found me a table. A small but interesting menu. Food arrived very quickly, in fact too quickly for it to have been cooked to order. However my order of pulled duck, beef pepper , and rice were all good, and the portions more than enough. They bring the food when they want to, rather than the way you order. It does say this on the menu. Service was very friendly and efficient. Food plus a beer and service charge was £30. Fair for the location etc.
A. P.
Amazing food! I’ve eaten at both locations (Spitafields and Tower Bridge) and I cant recommend the place highly enough.
Everything was cooked PERFECTLY from the whole Plaice to the crunchy okra chips to the perfectly done lamb chops (which incidentally are the best I’ve ever had).
The original got a Michelin bib and I can totally see why. Great value for money based on quality, taste and location.
Fab job! Keep it up!
A. v. B.
Amazing flavours! We tried and shared a whole range of small dishes and each one of the was amazing with loads of flavour and tastiness. This one is a bit bigger than the original Liverpool Street one, but keeps the nice atmosphere and friendly staff! Also make sure you try the cocktails - lots of unique and interesting combinations
E. L.
Food was incredible and the "Feast" menu great.
Service was sub par.
Booking was a bit of a palava (you have to pay a £10pp deposit for tables over 5 -- which seems excessive given that they're a predominantly walk-in restaurant). Table we booked wasn't ready when we arrived, even though we were late. Hostess didn't actually show us to the table and the whole thing was a bit of a shambles.
But the food was really really good.
B. M.
Fantastic food and service. Everything on the menu looks great and it can be difficult to stop ordering. Definitely recommend the lamb chops and the venison in vermicelli. The only two things would like to see improve are 1) bigger tables... or maybe I just overordered and 2) I'd like to see a broader selection of beers, possibly something on tap from a local microbrewery.
R. R.
Amazing food! Everything was delicious - so flavourful. I especially loved the artichoke hearts, oysters and crab. Cocktails were tasty too, I had the Pani Puri margherita and spicy mango Bellini. Staff were lovely and the vibe was chilled and classy. Would highly recommend!
B. T.
Really good alternative to Dishoom, I prefer it. The lamb chops are really good. Check out kricket if you like this place.
K. R.
The food was very vibrant and full of flavour; we highly recommend the okra fries. Location was also excellent. However, even though the restaurant didn't seem too busy, the service was a bit slow and inattentive.
M. H.
Good location. Simple menu with a variety of dishes to compliment each other. Went with my partner and didn't realise it was a tapas restaurant so ordered 4 things on the menu and the dishes looked small. However, even after sharing all the dishes I was quite stuffed! The lamb, chicken and beef are halal although pork is served on the premises and prepared separately so they cater for everyone.
Ordered the chicken popcorn, lamb chops and half a chicken. All tasted great and very succulent. The only reason for 1 less star is I wish my plate was much bigger and the chicken was bigger than a sparrow.
H. M.
I came here for lunch post lockdown and it was nice enough to sit outside in one of the cute little social
distancing cubes they have erected. The staff were attentive but not intrusive and the food was all absolutely delicious. Highlights were the spicy venison and vermicelli doughnut, the aloo chat and the pork ribs. Looking forward to going back soon.
L. A.
Really delicious meal and great service. It was quite pricey but when the food arrived you could tell why. The taste was fantastic. I’m excited to return!
D. Q.
We had such a good meal! The venison doughnut might sound odd....but order two and you will understand once you taste it! The artichoke hearts and aloo chaat are also top class. Our waitress was lovely and the atmosphere is good. Really pleased, and the prices were fair.
R. R.
Fantastic food. Nice presentation. Its indian cuisine but presented in a very different and awesome way. We discovered it accidentally, but will definitely go there again. Its recommended to book a table before you go there .We were lucky to get one without booking but the resturant was full even at 6pm.And why not it will be when one serves such a awesome food in reasonable price!!
s. t.
Loved the mini sized meals. I hope to go again to try some non vegetarian options. Overall good ambience and food. Mouth watering gun powder artichokes recommended
J. W.
Popped around for lunch as we had been curious about the new arrival. Unfortunately nothing seemed to be going well on this visit.
The service was disjointed, condescending and occasionally just rude. They acted annoyed by every question asked of them. The projected superiority was really quite odd.
There were 3 of us and one was a vegetarian. We were all interested in the lunch “feast” and were told they couldn’t make substitution for the vegetarian.
The was well prepared but the portions for the feast were still quite small for even two people. The pepper beef as the main was underwhelming dish completely overwhelmed by a heaping mountain of raw onions on top.
In short it’s possible that this was a bad day for the staff but I don’t think I’ll return. The attitude was awful and the food just couldn’t make up for it.
H. K.
Sat upstairs, cosy ambience. The food was very tasty although pricey for small portions.
We would have also appreciated some advice around the menu-the prawn dish although relatively pricey is just a few prawns so isn’t enough alone, we had to make additional orders during the meal which understandably then came once most of the group had eaten.
Service was unfortunately very disappointing, particularly for a quite Monday evening. The food came before the wine arrived, when prompted the wine was then left sat on the table unopened without glasses until staff were prompted again. We were a large group of 7 but when the food came out the staff put dishes down randomply leaving us to pass dishes down to each other and working out what they were and who they were for. Further disappointed to have the venison plonked down in front of a vegetarian.
R. R.
Which Indian restaurant doesn’t serve bread? Gunpowder! While those who know what gunpowder is in culinary terms means, please don’t expect a South Indian affair. You’re in for a pan-India spread, milder flavours, which is what we gathered from the dishes we ordered. The aloo chaat was good for a starter. It can be described as a tweak on aloo tikki, wherein the tikki is replaced by roasted potatoes. The tamarind sauce in there was good though; it had a nice balance of sweet and tangy.
The mustard fish was nearly bland. We were quite disappointed with this version of a Bengali classic.
I liked the egg curry, my husband didn’t. The tomato based curry was a bit sweet for his liking. Also, the curry is of a thick consistency like that of jam. I liked the flavour of nigella seeds in there.
Palak paneer was not bad. Just a bit oily. And again not any sharp flavours. The staff were polite and good though.
Overall a very mild experience.
M. A.
This place is amazing! I went here for my girlfriends birthday and asked if they did anything for birthdays - they did! Along with our desert came a lit candle which was such a great end to an amazing meal. The food itself was amazing and these are possibly the best servers I’ve ever come across. They knew their stuff and answered every question we had about the menu. Pricing is great too!! Would definitely recommend as THE place to go near tower bridge. (Also you can get some really cool pictures outside the doors with tower bridge as the backdrop) AMAZING EXPERIENCE
T. S.
Brilliant food and service. Went for my birthday dinner and it was a very good experience. They even surprised me with a brownie and ice-cream with candle at the end. Food was so good especially the starrer 'aaloo chaat' that we ordered it twice. We had tandoori chicken and tandoori broccoli along with saag paneer and rice, everything was cooked to perfection and spice level was so well balanced. Glad my birthday dinner went so well. 😇
S. M.
This is an awesome place with great ambiance and the is also food was fantastic
W. M.
Booked so no waits required. Food is very good - okra fries better than Dishoom's, lamb chops very expensive (but soft opening) but remarkably tender and outdoes Tayyabs and co. Soft shell crab very good too. Pork ribs were generous for the price but I'd try the tandoori chicken next time instead.
Service very friendly albeit a little slow, but that's why it's a soft opening!
Beautiful area and setting.
E. A.
Good food. Like Indian tapas but don't have many desert options. Decent ambience.
Service was quick. Can be difficult to get the attention of the waiters during busy times but that's understandable.
Enjoyed the dinner there.
B. Z.
Went to the soft launch of the new Indian restaurant. It had a sharing plate style with lots is smaller dishes. Ordered 7 dishes between two of us, which was a little much - could have done with 5. Recommend the beef pepper fry, chicken lollipop, chettinad duck ootapum. Not a fan of a pork ribs which were a little sweet for our tastes otherwise this place would have got 5 stars. Quick and friendly service - will be back for the full launch.
E. M.
Food is fantastic, staff is slow and dry. I hope they can change the attitude towards their clients (slow, lack of kindness, trying to turn the table around as quickly as possible).
The lamb chops are amazing!
S. 0.
My goodness the food is too good, will be seeing you again very soon
D. N.
Great food. Amazingly attentive staff.
We arrived just after six and was told there was an approximate wait of 2 hours. We were put on a online waiting list and watched the count go down from thr draft beer pub around the corner.
When it reached a low enough number we returned and was told that it may be some time before getting in. Deciding to take a slow walk to another restaurant I heard my name being called. It was the guy from Gunpowder. He had run after us to let us know a table had just become available.
This was amazing customer service! All the other staff we came into contact with were incredibly attentive and the food was fantastic.

What a great find. Hidden behind the main road next to Tower Bridge, this restaurant really impressed. The service was fast and never interrupting. The cuisine was absolutely superb and was delivered in a tapas style format. The flavours and spices were phenomenal! Mouthgasm after mouthgasm! If you’re looking for something different to the usual Indian restaurant, look no further!
M.
Really great place to take a group of 4 and share everything! The dishes that are a fond favourite are grilled artichoke hearts in red pepper masala which are bold and aromatic, incredible Bhuna aubergine and crispy kale salad which is a must order, and maa’s kashmiri lamb chops. Service is excellent and location is great as it's a stone throw away from tower bridge.
P. M.
Delicious food, great service
C. H.
Came here during soft launch and booked table for 2 via the OpenTable app for 5.45pm. We arrived 2 minutes late and the maitre d asked for my name, which I gave to him. He then told me there was no booking under my name, so I said I was happy to show him the booking confirmation. Having shown this, he told us our table had gone and another customer had pretended to be me! I said to him I just don’t believe that as they would need to know my name...and his answer was “sometimes customers lie”. Anyway, after all that he invited us in and sat us down at a table but it was a very uncomfortable opener.
Luckily, the food is very very good. We took full advantage of the soft launch and ordered a lot of dishes (I had forgone lunch!). We found all of them very flavourful and punchy - the chicken lollipops, soft shell crab and lamb chops were particularly stand-out. The waiter looking after us was pleasant and helpful, but did inform us that we got the last portion of chicken lollipops and the kitchen had now ran out. Echoing another reviewer below, I don’t see that as the dish being too popular, but rather poor kitchen planning. Soft launch on a Friday night - the kitchen should not be running out at just after 6pm. This wasn’t the only dish as the couple sat next to us tried to order another dish later on and were told it had also ran.
So overall, great food let down by a very poor welcome and disappointing food availability. 4 stars because it’s all totally salvageable and I’ll come back, just don’t expect them to roll out the red carpet.
G. D.
Great Indian restaurant. It is not your typical place that serves curries but more tapas style Indian. Lots of small plates that you can share. The food is very good. We enjoyed the cheese toast sandwich, broccoli, crab, lamb chops, pork ribs, paneer and basmati rice. The restaurant has a nice vibe and on the night we dined it was busy and full of life. We had a great time and highly recommend.
D. V.
Excellent tapas-style Indian dishes. Good service. We arrived at around 5:30/6ish and it was very quiet, by the time we'd finished it had livened up a bit so would recommend eating a little later.
S. G.
Absolutely amazing food, great service. I recommend this restaurant massively
L. B.
Really great food. A little pricey but having been before, we knew it wouldn't disappoint so happy to pay a bit more for that confidence
S. C.
Gunpowder helped with organising a corporate event and did a truly fabulous job. The food was innovative, flavorsome and very exciting. The service was incredibly attentive, with the staff working to ensure that we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thank you so much for all of your help and for a fabulous supper.
D. M.
Had high expectations (originally had a Gymkhana reservation, but apparently it burned down), but came away disappointed. We had the aloo, kale, pulled duck appam, ribs, Kerala beef fry, and the egg curry. The aloo and kale were the best, but nothing that really wowed. The beef fry was solid but lacking depth as was the duck. The ribs were not very good - they didn't really taste Indian and were just too sweet. The egg curry could have been pretty good, but it was way too salty. They also brought all the dishes out at the same time and we had a tiny table for two so we could barely fit everything. Don't believe the hype.
J. W.
Absolutely lovely Indian! Great range of dishes and wine, you will not leave hungry.
D. S.
As expected, the food continues to be excellent - yet to try out the bakery (Custard) when up and running but looks to be very promising. With all the basics in place, Gunpowder II, as I'd like to call it, is destined for greatness. I still continue to think that Gunpowder serves the best lamb chops in London. Also another fantastic dish was the chicken lollipop - typical Indian snack - but taken to an altogether new level - you'll be left scraping the masala off the bottom of the dish - SO good!
T. S.
Good food got it cheap cause of eat out to help out
L. L.
Delicious as always, the lamb chop is simply the best. Great service , and tables nicely spaced out.
a. m.
Just had the feast menu here for 5 of us. it is superb, huge portion of softshell crab, allo chat and the broccoli are amazing, plenty of food for a really reasonable price and outstanding service to boot. We cannot recommend this place enough, check it out if you're anywhere nearby!
T.
Gunpowder is located in super close proximity to the tower bridge and offers a modern twist on classic Indian fare. My two highlights include the (1) charred gem lettuce and beetroot salad and (2) okra fries. The spicy venison doughnut was a unique, savory dish where much of the heat comes through in the side chili chutney. It's a good option for those looking to try something new and different, as the crunchy vermicelli exterior and savory ground venison provide an interesting contrast. The least favorite option was the aloo chaat, which was kind of like a cold, extra creamy Indian-style potato salad that didn't quite jive with my palate. The gimlet cocktail was an easy sipper - not too boozy and dangerously sweet in its balance between honey and lime. While the service was timely and very efficient throughout (I received all of my food faster than anticipated) , some points were lost because of the post-dinner lag at the conclusion of my meal while waiting for the bill, which took longer than I thought based on the expedient level of service and attentiveness I'd experienced up to that point. Lots of couples and small groups composed the majority of the parties downstairs. Not too loud, and likely a good fit for dates, small (e.g. <4pp) business groups, and casual diners.
m. v.
It was a rum themed night for us at the table with gunpowderr regiment a rum and masala coke concoction
And rumpudding a sublime breadpudding soaked in rum also we stuffed our faces with Kashmiri lamb which is apparently the owners MIL's recipe and was devine. We also had artichokes okra fries and duck leg
Each bite was an explosion of flavour! Staff were polite and cordial and the location is amazing too
N. P.
Just very inventive and delicious take on Indian food. Definitely gonna add it to my go to places when in London.
G. A.
Friendly staff reasonable wine and cocktails menu, some fine food choices just unable to.pull off quality food. Starter was aloo chaat ok but smothered in yogurt and some brown sauce tasting almost like daddy's brown sauce, the main I had rice (under cooked) the spicy beef, once I found it under what must have been a whole red onion was as tough as old boots (but did have some nice spicy flavours to it)
So over all nice drinks, pleasant front of house, food needs to be better.
M. B.
Interesting and delicious take on Indian cuisine. Drinks are amazing and ppl as friendly as can be. Definitely will be back
E. H.
Lovely food great atmosphere and very kind manager who kindly rearranged our booking! The ribs were delicious and the sea bass really good. Desserts didn't dissapoint either.
e. A.
The food and service was great and it came out quickly. We had the Ochra, salad, grilled broccoli, fish in banana leaf, pepper beef and gunpowder butter rice. So good, we’ll have to go back to try the other dishes!! Thank you Ria and staff for a delicious dinner.
R. P.
I think this is my new favourite restaurant. Lovely space and fantastic staff, who were so helpful on my visit. At the end of the day though, it's about the food and even there, Gunpowder didn't fail. Even the Broccoli didn't disappoint!

Had a fantastic meal at the Gunpowder. Food great that is ideal for sharing, service was fast and attentive. I found the tables to be too close together as you are literally on top of the next table so difficult to have a conversation. This withstanding still thought it a great addition to the local scene.
V. M.
Great flavour and ambience. Only reason giving a 4 is the cost a bit high for the small portion sizes! But if you are looking for something light and tasty and don't mind to splurge a bit a good place to eat!
j. d.
wish they stick to traditional way of Indian food, couldn't really find it's special. however, I can say that people who can't try lamb because of the particular smell, they can have it here as it's all powdered with spices.
W. K.
Amazing dishes, especially the Aloo Chat (Deep fried potatoes with yoghurt sauce) and peanut starter. Pork ribs could have been more tender and less sweet. Okra fries were good for sharing. Yet to try the lamb dishes, but looks promising!
S. A. S.
Lovely place to have authentic Indian food. The aloo chat with the tamatind chutney and the charcoal grilled chicken is an absolute must try. We also tried the paneer gravy which was good as well. They also have a good collection of hindi songs which helps in creating a good ambience!
A. D.
Really well done food, the flavours are so well composed! Would recommend a few plates per person as the portions are quite small and fairly expensive. But well worth visiting as a treat.
F. H.
Pretty joyless experience for me. Service was a bit “holier than thou”... you want bread, ya uncultured bumpkin ? ? A lassi? Not in these walls, painted in farrow and ball “elephants tears.” Customer, you have the wrong idea.
Food was tasty but went down the usual modern small plate route. “Family style” says the website. Give me family warmth and good times at the table! Left peckish and a bit sad.
S. d.
Nice place. Great food. Different from usual Indian restaurant. Okra fries are great. Venison donut very tasty. Well worth a visit. Drinks and cocktails available.
S.
We came with a baby and the food and service were absolutely exceptional. The waiters were extremely accommodating and friendly and made us have an amazing experience.
V. O.
My fav Indian restaurant in London. You should try: lamb chops, paneer, tandoori chicken and the soft shell crab.
R. P.
Visited during their soft launch. Great ambience, service good but still some teething issues (nothing major). Need more vegan options. Best Indian restaurant in the neighbourhood.
M. P.
Came here for our office Christmas party this week. The sharing platters were sooo delicious. It kind of reminded me of Dishoom in both character and menu. Really amazing flavours and nice space too Highly recommend! (Especially the kale.... Delish!)
S. A.
We arrived late for lunch and the kitchen was about to close. We had to decide quickly rather than order based on how much we wanted. Even then we didn't under or over order and the food was really delicious and flavourful.
Y. Y.
Really nice place and the food is really tasty! The portion sizes are a bit small especially for the price
S. B.
The food at Gunpowder was simply outstanding. Coming from India I was pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of the flavors. The lamb chops and aloo chat were spectacular! Beautiful setting by tower bridge
B. I.
Beautiful and tasty food. Love the decor, perfect place for a fulfilling meal with wonderful cocktails. Favourite was Aloo Chaat, Okra Fries and Karwari Soft Shell Crab! My wonderful indian sanctuary :)
J. L.
Amazing food, all of it. Lamb chops were
best I've ever had. Artichokes were delicious. Prices very reasonable for quality of food and location.
S. R.
The most amazing new find in London. Located adjacent to The Tower Bridge in the new Tower One development, Gunpowder manages to hit all the right spots and so effortlessly. The food and service par excellence. And the best lamb chops ever !! Kudos to Harneet and his team. Cheers.
A. R.
Venison very tasty. Tandoori chicken perfect. Staff v friendly. Service quick.
T. C. F. C.
Naughty naughty bit of grub - One problem though - No Fried Okra - I was heartbroken lol - this place is well worth the wonga !! Try the shoreditch gaff aswell - you will not be disappointed - trust meeeee...
A. K.
The maestros have recreated the same magic from the east now bang in the middle of town!
For the meat eaters ...you will salivate just merely looking at the chicken lollipop and lamb chops which are the best this city has been exposed to. It's an absolute delight to ones taste buds.
For the veggie friends it's the aloo chaat and the paneer which is an absolute delight.
R. K.
Good place if you know what to expect here.. It's like an Indian Tapas... Basically you get starters, but not traditional mains... Food tastes very good. Prices are reasonable..
A. S.
Lamb chops, aaloo chaat, chicken lollipop madras style, fish in banana leaf, vermicelli donut.... I have eaten almost the entire menu here. The new place is chic.. I wish they had the rassam bombs from their first outlet on Spitalfields. But hey isn't change exciting. Keep it up guys
D. B.
We had lunch at Gunpowder today, to celebrate my son's wedding. I was absolutely amazed with the quality & creativity of their Indian cuisine. Superb service 👍
G. S.
Excellent food. Small menu but all very exciting. We were a party of four, we all had something different and everything was great.
S. M.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening here, had a really friendly waiter who helped us choose our food wisely - loved the rum pudding and ribs! Look forward to coming back.
R. R.
Excellent aloo chat and everything else! It may seem like a limited menu for vegans but they modify dishes to suit you if you ask.
S. K. S.
Ridiculously tasty Indian Food. The best I’ve had in a long time, maybe ever. The lamb chops are exquisite! Definitely recommended!
G. B.
Super location . We went here 2 times on our trip to London. The uttapam with pulled duck had me salivating for more. Great service, keep it up Harneet !
A. J.
Excellent food. Loved the Egg Curry, Aloo chat, Okra fries. One of the best Indian restaurants of this calibre in town.
F. A.
Visited during the soft launch similar to other reviewers despite booking still had to queue up. All the dishes ordered were fine although there was a long hair wrapped inside banana leaf fish dish which put me off eating further. Pointed this out to the waiter. Coffee was surprisingly good. Dessert very heavy chocolate so could only finish half, but good.
J. S.
Different take on Indian food. Very well executed though. Basically marries Indian flavours and cooking styles to unconventional ingredients. Highly recommend.
J. T.
This place is amazing. Had the set menu and everything was so tasty. Highly recommend if you like Indian flavours.
P. M.
Good food with nice location. Very close to tower bridge. Indian fusion food and very quick service. Portions are on smaller side so one dish per person.
M. M.
this is one of my favourite Indian restaurant in London.
K. P.
Amazing food and service. Chef even baked a cake for our special birthday celebration.
M. E. O.
Really good food. Don't go expecting typical Indian food, this is a different kind of menu and experience.
A. W.
The best modern Indian restaurant in Town! Recommend the lamb chops and Veniison vermicelli . Excellent service and welcoming staff.
N. E.
Tasty food original flavours! Service a little slow because it was so busy so understandable but worth it for the food the man at the front ready to seat us was sooooo amaaazing!!!
J. E.
The Indian food at gunpowder was amazing. You need to try the okra fries, ribs, duck rice and the soft shell crab.
A.
Delicious! Food was better than I'd expected and the service was wonderful. Very accommodating to vegan requests.
S.
This place was so good I had to come back here a few more times just to make sure I tried everything from the menu. Each time I came I always ordered the chocolate dessert too.
A. A.
Every single order was perfect. The lamb chops... Amazing how the meat was so so so soft, with the flavors seeping right to the very core.
M. C.
Absolutely excellent, can't wait to go again. The food is amazing, especially the lamb chops and the kale dish is a must and I don't normally like kale
d. k.
Great indian fusion food! Less items on menu but each of the item is carefully chosen and absolutely delicious. Must try
J. C.
One of the best restaurants I've been to in terms of food - starters, mains, desserts and drinks - all excellent.
A. S.
Decent food and prices are ok for central London. Staff could do with a little bit more polish but was a busy night for them.
S. H.
Delicious brunch and excellent strong coffee. Dinner menu looked great too but haven't tried it. I will be back
B.
I went towards the end of their soft launch, ordered almost everything on the menu and it was delicious. The customer service was also great considering they were so busy!
S. J.
Nit picked menu and deliciously executed!
J. M.
Very different, interesting menu. Well cooked and flavoured. A little pricey but hey given where it is and what the menu is like it's to be expected.
D. S.
Been waiting a long time to visit Gunpowder and I wasn't disappointed, a higher class of curry establishment and the food and the service matched the ambiance
P. S.
Small portion sized food for sharing. I wasn't satisfied even after 4 dishes and 2 desserts. And it is super expensive. Not on my list of restaurants to visit again.
G. B.
Really nice Indian food - not sure it’s authentic, but it’s very good. The desert was definitely not Indian (had Indian rum in it), but was delicious.
K. V.
Great food and service.
S. B.
Oh my the food here is delicious. I'm surprised I haven't been here before. Make sure you get the lamb chops!!!
S. T.
Great Aloo chat, egg curry masala and Sea Bass. May be a bit more time between dishes and more space between the tables.
L. C.
Excellent food in a tapas style. The staff were very friendly and talk you through the menu.
K. S.
Absolutely awesome food in a lovely setting! Could not recommend this place more (have the lamb chops, broccoli and duck - to die for)!
o.
Pancakes were absolutely delicious!
A. J.
Lovely food, very busy, great atmosphere. Get the Tandoori chicken, the tikka sauce is amazing
S. A.
Great food, but very loud ambience (not recommended for romantic/first dates) and very very slow service (waited 30 minutes to get the bill)
D. S.
Very good food. A bit of an oddity; a tapas style Indian restaurant; that doesn't serve naan bread, or lassi!
M. G.
I ordered take out from here and was very impressed! Best food I have ordered in a long time!
A. S.
Not as cozy as the Spitalfields location, but excellent excellent flavors. Lots of great vegetarian options and quick service!
H.
Wonderful food (have never tasted anything like it before) and amazingly friendly staff. Thank you for a fantastic lunch!
R. B.
Excellent service and attention to detail. Food is great for sharing/couples. Extremely tasty and a nice atmosphere inside.
T. C.
Good food. Table assigned was far too small for 4 people and plates of food. Led to beer being knocked off the table
N. H.
Delicious Indian small plates and very accommodating staff
R. B.
The most incredible food experience in London. Hands down the best Indian restaurant by a country mile. Rahul
N. K.
Portions are small and food doesn't have much flavour. Desserts were great
P. N.

Super location . We went here 2 times on our trip to London. The uttapam with pulled duck had me salivating for more. Great service, keep it up Harneet !
T.
Gunpowder is located in super close proximity to the tower bridge and offers a modern twist on classic Indian fare. My two highlights include the (1) charred gem lettuce and beetroot salad and (2) okra fries. The spicy venison doughnut was …
M. M.
Good food but helpings could have been a little bigger.
K. S.
A unique take on Indian food! Great service (Thanks Jas) & food!

Pricey. Don't be sitting outside before 1230pm, no sun.

Average, sterile atmosphere, over-priced and unimaginative food - don’t bother
