Great atmosphere, and overall look to the place. Very good cocktails, but food was just okay. Had the deep-fried squid, the batter had no crunch and the beef burger was disappointing. The extras (bun, pancetta etc) were all quite nice as were the fries.

Went here for late lunch with friends recently. Nice decor. Would describe the place as "cosy" (dimmed lights). As well as the main menu, they have specials that the waiter should mention. Food nice, English fare and lovely wine too! Would go back!

Highly recommend, great atmosphere, unique place. Sam at the cocktails does great stuff, slick cocktails. He knows! Food is amazing, great chef. The menu changes with the season so it is a pleasure to come back here. We had our civil wedding celebration drinks and dinner, and a large group was easily accomodated. Youssef the manager and his team will always be at your service.

We hosted party here which included drinks and food for our guests and it was absolutely perfect. Communication excellent and Josef and his team went above and beyond to make sure it was right. Food is amazing actually, everyone was raving about it. I was of course expecting it to be very good but it exceeded expectations. Cocktails also fabulous. We hosted 40 people and p The overall price was very reasonable particularly for how high quality everything was. The bar itself is very beautiful, music was great, decor lighting everything contributed to a very fun yet elegant evening. Everyone had a blast and it felt like a very special evening. Loved!

Went for dinner and waited about 90 mins to get food. Waitress apologised and food was lush. Main gripe was I ordered a mocktail and none were on the menu. They asked what I would want and I said mojito but would maybe have been inspired by something else. I got soda water with mint and lime and a tonne of ice. It was nice but I was charged £7 when a cocktail using alcohol is £10. My friend had vodka and soda and her vodka cost less than my glass of minty ice. That was a bit lame

The starter was a let down, had the scallops everything was soft, it needs something on the plate to add texture and it wasn't hot. The main course of duck was OK but too much meat and 1 tiny potato. Luckily we went for the company and not the food.

Beautiful food. Loved it. Great decor and friendly staff and set in a beautiful old building. The courses were well spaced out so no indigestion or trying to rush you out the door. A very relaxed meal. I will definitely be returning to try the Sunday roast!

I've been here 4 or 5 times and its got a lovely environment with great music. The first time I went a year or two ago it had great food and cocktails, but the last couple times the menu has changed and cocktails are not as nice as they used to be. The last time a group of us went we were told that we could not use the toilets because there was a private function. This was not acceptable as they should have been closed for the public if that was the case. We actually had 1 drink and left whereas we normally we stay for hours. Go back to how it used to be please!

The food at Hoxley and Porter blew me away, and it's an excellent roast to rival The Pig and Butcher down the street (known for its roasts). The interior is a sophisticated wood panelling, set out like an old drinking hole but with the air of a proper restaurant. The service we recieved was good, though not all to polished or personable (I think she was knew). The price was also really good, at around £20 for 2 courses including a huge roast, cauliflower cheese and a desert (or starter). I would highly recommend it here, certainly for roasts. It's a quiet calm spot away from the busyness of the high street.

Lovely decor, wonderful music choices and friendly staff. My friend and I decided against alcohol for the evening but we will be returning to try the cocktails which looked very interesting! We had fruit juices instead which were the only disappointing part as they tasted fairly weak and watered down. But everything else was great.

Pleasantly surprised! I often walk past this place and assumed it would be out of my budget. Realistically its good value as the portions are good and some items on the menu are pretty reasonable. Great service and gorgeous decor inside.

This bar has a lovely vibe, a Great Gatsby vibe and the cocktails were incredible. I had my birthday drinks here and we had a fantastic night. The burger and chips that we ordered from the bar menu were delicious, but it did take a long time for it tocome out so that's why it hasn't got a full 5 stars. Otherwise a lovely experience.

The architectural design of the this place as you enter is beautiful. The interior has a cosy feel and very atmospheric. I went there for cocktails with a friend and what amazing cocktails they were. The staff are friendly and efficient. Would love to try the food next time. Worth a visit.

Manager was great when we turned up late on a Saturday, another bar in the area having taken money off us to book a table and then told us the table wasn't free due to a private event. They squeezed us in and paid lots of attention to us. Cocktails were fab, bar staff great at making recommendations. Really nice atmosphere too - a more sophisticated crowd then a lot of the other bars in the area.

We were thrilled to have picked Hoxley and Porter for our impromptu date night. Beautiful decor, excellent service (we were served by Mirco and the other staff member there was lovely also). It really felt like a special occasion, fine dining experience but with very reasonably prices. They were also more than happy to adjust the menu to accommodate some vegan options for myself. We’ll definitely be back and would love to try the Sunday roast next time!

I went here on a Friday night for some drinks. I really like the fact that you can sit in a table, order your drinks and enjoy the live jazz session. Just had beer, so can't comment on the quality of the cocktails. It is a bit pricey but it is a nice place

I love and adore this place! Beautiful place it's like walking back into the 1930's decor style. I love the food and cocktails. The Beef Sunday lunch is huge and they do Bloody Mary's for £1.50 on a Sunday and their fantastic. My fave cocktail is a must try "Daddy owns a Yacht club"

Went here for dinner this evening. Great set menu, two courses for £12.95. The food was absolutely delicious, particularly for the price we paid and the bottle of wine we had was reasonably priced and delicious. The waiters were really lovely and attentive and my boyfriend and I really liked the decor and ambience of the place. Would've happily paid much more for what we had and definitely plan to go back soon.

This place may do good cocktails but the food was average at best. We were here for a friend's birthday, her last minute planning meant this was one of the few places able to accommodate a late booking for 10. I had 3 courses, which was a very reasonable £21. The lamb was under seasoned and chips flaccid, the creme brulee grainy and the goats cheese salad a little bland (although the deep fried goats cheese balls were nice). Would come again for drinks, but too many other good restaurants nearby to eat here again.

Had an absolute brilliant night tonight at Hoxley and Porter. We were looked after by Russell who went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. I've been here before for dinner (the 'dining carriage' is set out like an old fashioned train carriage) but tonight it had a completely different, less formal, feel. Loved it!! Different everytime I visit but great every time :)

Book at table if you can. It's a long and narrow bar so not ideal for large groups. I brought my parents here for some drinks after dinner in Ziloufs. Live jazz playing created a really nice atmosphere and the whiskey range pleased dad.

Beautiful 20's exotic style bar between Highbury and Islington and Angel underground Stations. There is a large variety of cocktails so something for everyone. I wouldn't recommend for large groups as they don't really have any spaces big enough and it is table service in the bar for bigger groups. There were not enough seats for everyone (two of which broke!) and the staff weren't very attentive with the table service. Lovely bar though and something a bit different to the other bars on Upper Street.
