Reviews of Jia - Dim Sum
C. B.
8/10.
Been to more than ten dimsum restaurants in London, Jia is certainly the top 3 among all. Quick service, not too oily and yummy dimsum would satisfy your palete and crave for Canton dimsum on a Sunday afternoon. Their other dishes are as good as dimsum too, although I usually go there for dimsum. Reasonably priced too in the nice area of South Ken.
C. F.
Great restaurant for dim sum, and decently priced too! Only 4 stars as our waitress forgot about egg fried rice order. But not a massive issue as we were stuffed from the dim sum so glad it was forgotten about! :) I would definitely go back and highly recommend. Fried calamari was delicious, obviously couldn't wait as you can see in the photo.
M. A.
Absolutely amazing. Joyful atmosphere. Food was well prepared, hot and spicy 😋 and all for a decent price. *here’s a tip: ask for the Chinese menu* 😊 jasmine tea to calm the nerves living in bustling London.

The service was quick. Dim sums were very tasty, I would especially recommend the prawn & wasabi ones, my personal favourites.
J. L. N.
First rate dim sum in the afternoon! Everything was fresh and delicious! Comes very quickly so ideal for a quick meal. Waitresses are pleasant and helpful. Great little place near the museums!
E. H.
The food was good quality along with good customer service. Highly recommended and definitely will be back.
V. W.
Very nice staff and very authentic dim sum. Eggplant tofu dish is a little expensive for the portion but the rest is good.
T.
Is there no 6 stars? I must say: the food is not delicious, it is god-like! When you give 1 star for rude service, you take yourself too serious. To us they were polite and they did their job in making us happy with really good food.
D. C.
This is a nice surprise. We visited Jia on Boxing day afternoon on which only few restaurants around were open. We ordered a few typical dim sums and they were nice surprise with its authenticity. We looked around neighboring tables which had more dishes than is and they are seems good and authentic.
The service is excellent too and we will definitely go back when we are in South Ken again.
N. C.
Comfort food good taste and nice staff thanks

Super delicious restaurant close to South Kensington in London. The portion are not to big and the quality of the food is brilliant. The staff is super quick and the place is clean and tidy.
A.
Fast service. Staff cleaned table often and are friendly. Food wise -average. Overall good experience

Comfort food good taste and nice staff thanks

Wonderful little place. It was recommended to us and we found the idea of going this far from China town for dim sum fascinating. Although the reviews weren't the best we thought to give it a go. Definitely we made the right decision to give it a try. Service was nice and fast and I would describe it as efficient. Food came out in a relatively fast pace and one basket was more delicious than the other. If you like Chinese and are close by, it is a very solid option. And for the people complaining about the service, if you need to be pampered and taken care of that's obviously not the place as the bill of fare suggests, but if you want to have a delicious meal go for it.

Beautiful restaurant and modern ambience.
Food is good. We had a lovely chinese lunch and enjoyed every bit tremendously. Dim sum was yummy. Fried rice could do with a little salt but overall everything was tasty and yummy just like back home. Would love to eat again.
Most importantly it has a Clean toilet and very friendly staff.
Just lovely! 😍😍
I. W.
Foods are delicious. So busy all days and night. I would recommend people come and order foods in one step. Do not ask the waitress so many times because they work so hard.

Great local place to have dim sum! Not overly priced. The chilli oil there is very nice and free noodles over £12. Picture of some of the food we had. Although, they do charge 40p for takeaway boxes if you can't finish your food and it was very crowded when we went... Please open the top floor especially with covid-19 at a peak...
N. R.
Come to this place to eat, not use the Wifi (they don't have any), not to have a business meeting and definitely NOT to hang out. They want you in, eat your food and gone! I call it Chinese service (If you've beet to china town restaurants, you will understand what i am talking about)
if you can tolerate that, or even make it part of the occasion, the food really is worth it. Especially dim-sam!
P. A.
DON'T COME HERE FOR THE SERVICE... BUT...
If you read the other reviews on this restaurant, the concurrent complaint is always about the service.
And yes, the service is appalling, if you're looking for high-end (think Nobu) experience.
But if you've ever eaten in Chinatown, you'll know it's part of the Chinese eating experience. Rudeness became a selling point for many of the old stalwarts on or just off Gerrard Street.
You're coming in this place to eat, not use the Wifi (they don't have any), not to have a business meeting and definitely NOT to hang out.
They want you in, eat your food and gone!
But if you can tolerate that, or even make it part of the occasion, the food really is worth it.
The Tempura Mixed Vegetables (£6.50) had genuinely the lightest, freshest Tempura Batter I've ever encountered. Which is a big deal considering the variety of choice we have on offer here in the World's Capital. And the serving way more than ample for the two of us.
My guest unable to have pork ensured we went for the Grilled Vegetarian Shanghai dumplings (£4.50), again a perfect balance of taste, texture & spice. Served with a wonderfully thick & dark soy sauce and the beautifully presented Vegetarian Dim Sum platter (6 pieces including a Crystal Skin Dumpling, Mock Lobster Dumpling, Vegetarian Black Pepper Duck Dumpling & Satay Truffle Dumpling) (£6.50).
The Mango and proneto sago dessert (a chilled soup of fresh mangoes, coconut milk and promelo grapefruit with sago) (£3.90) was a wonderfully refreshing finish to the meal.
We shared the four dishes between the 2 of us (I forgo my dessert as Black Sesame paste dumplings coated in ground peanut had sadly sold out on this occasion)
It's just slightly more expensive than average, but definitely worth the additional charge.
When we visited the place was literally packed top to bottom with Chinese customers, barely a word of English was spoken.
In Chinatown you would have expected that, but in South Kensington, not so much.
You get the sense people travel to eat here... and I'd suggest you do the same.
If you're looking for attentive service, go somewhere else (Yauatcha probably more your scene), but if you're looking for efficient service and don't mind being encouraged to leave once you've eaten, go and experience some of the best Dim Sum in town for an extremely reasonable price.
S. R.
Food is tasty, some of the dishes quite expensive in comparison to the portion, but still reasonably priced considering the area Service was polite and efficient, but also a bit dismissive. We had barely finished our dinner when we were brought the bill, and I didn't even get the time to properly check it before paying; apparently the waitress was in a rush as they were closing in half an hour, but I think she should have handled things in a more professional manner.
S. Y.
Nice restaurant Excellent food and good service
I love this place! The food in nothing short of exceptional! The service is great, staffs are super friendly and the food quality really perfect! Even the drinks are good. Lobster and steamed sea bass are absolutely fantastic!
C. S.
Food is awesome. For me (im a dim sum lover) they are one of the best dim sums in London. The atmosphere and the staff is what it is, its part of the experience. Most reviews are bad due to the environment, but go there for the food!!Its amazing
A.
Don't be fooled by the negative reviews. The food here is great, prices decent and service is quick and efficient.
Sure, they don't necessarily greet you with a big smile and ask you about your day, but who cares? You come for a good meal and that's what you get.
G. B.
amazing chilli oil! packed full of flavour and umami! great for pairing with other dishes, generous portion size too! staff are not in your face but easy to get attention of too. also take advantage of their free fried noodles that come when you order more than £15 worth!
N. A.
The queue alone right after midday should tell you how popular and good their good is. Only downside thing about this place is the waiting time.. sometimes it's too long but can't blame them due to high number of patronage
P. C.
Delicious! One of the best Chinese restaurant I have ever tried.
R. R.
Fantastic tasting food at very reasonable prices with generous portions.
M. W.
Pretty decent dim sum via Deliveroo.
S. K.
Lovely Hong Kong restaurant! Very tasty dim sum. Highly recommend!
i.
For those who miss Hong Kong, this is the restaurant you should not miss. High CP Value.👍
Z. T.
Good Chinese food in South Kensington. Service is superb and taste is good. It may not taste as good as Goldmine, but it comes close.
L. S. W.
Have visited 3 times and the food is consistently good. Fairly standard recipes, but well executed -- good texture and flavourful but not overly done. Service is decent but transactional and generally unenthusiastic. If you are eating with small children, just be aware that they do not have high chairs.
S. D.
Excellent food and service. Ordered vegetarian dim sum platter, dry fried chilli green beans, mock black pepper chicken with noodles and bean sprouts. Faultless and not excessively oily and greasy. Very well cooked. Highly recommended. I will come back again. Found this place after visiting the Science Museum.
M. C.
Been coming here every once in a while for the past 5 years and the food is always really good! Ok, it’s true, the staff isn’t the friendliest, but we’ve never had an issue with them. The food comes out of the kitchen super fast and is consistently flavourful. Plus they have so many veggie/vegan options. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic and reasonably priced Chinese in South Ken.
K. S.
Food is 4.5 but service often very unfriendly inflexible regarding any type of request (where to sit, size of portion, even price for group dinner) and despite service being added, credit card machine is set to 'do you want to add service'. So a 1-2 rating for that. This clearly all comes from management rather than hard working individual staff. But the dim sum is excellent. Pricey but it is South Ken and food is top quality.
R. d. K.
My friend suggested this restaurant, after which I read the reviews, and I couldn't believe the negative stories. Either this restaurant has changed dramatically for the better or the people writing these reviews are spoilt brats. I went there today for dim sum and I couldn't fault the place. We were welcomed with a smile, the service was efficient, not rude at all and the place was packed, with all the other diners seemingly very happy and enjoying their food. The food was excellent, every single dish was tasty and full of flavour. And I wouldn't call it expensive. It's a fair price for the area. Last week I ate in Chinatown and it wasn't any cheaper. Maybe the moaners should be more appreciative of good food.
P. A.
Nice Chinese restaurant in the French district of London. (South Kensington)
I will definitely go again.
J. H.
The consensus from reading the reviews seems to be that the service is bad here, but on our visit the staff were very pleasant, and the food arrived promptly. They do seem to want to turn the tables over fairly quickly but who can blame them? They probably have very high rent and their space is pretty constrained.
There was a better than average selection of vegetarian dim sum options, and everything I ate was of a decent quality. Would happily go again.
T. N.
It’s hard to understand what the owner/s are thinking with their staff training. This place probably has the most unfriendly and curt service staffs we have met. The Dim Sums are of decent taste and quality which made us return as we live close by. It saves us a trip to Chinatown but we just can’t get how the staffs are allowed to be this rude to their customers. Are they hoping to turn everyone away over time and shut the business down. Just mind boggling!
P. S.
Great taste great value and sticking to COVID rules… we we’re in need of a true Chinese restaurant with taste. They kept their promise! I travelled from south london to enjoy Jia!
P. T.
They have delicious dim sum made by chef and not store bought. They gave a few free dishes and their staff are friendly.
M. C.
Great dim sum. Nice place to come for lunch but be prepared for a certain type of service fairly common to Asian restaurants. You're almost rushed through the courses and it's clear that once you're done you should make way for others.
Fair enough given how busy they get but still a little jarring to someone used to a different type of service.
Can't fault the food though, really tasty.
A. D. X.
Amazing authentic Chinese food at a reasonable price. Covering a range of different cuisines in China, the food is honestly worth the trip. The three stars has to do with the very mediocre service you will recieve while you're there.
You will not be seated if you are waiting for your friends (who will arrive in 5 minutes, even if there is plenty of seats available). You will be greeted with an arrogance from the server, as if she's better than you, and she's doing you a huge favour by serving you. She doesn't trust that you can read English on card readers, just because you look Chinese, and she acts like she hates everyone who comes to the restaurant.
It's a great price for the amazing food being served at this place. But "jia", which means "home", is not a welcoming place.
M. H.
Honestly wish I could rate this 5 stars because the food is outstanding. Even though they specialise in dim sum the pork belly dish is incredible, can't recommend it enough. I've never tried pork belly that practically melted in my mouth before.
It can get extremely busy at times though, so be prepared to wait, and staff won't hesitate to rush you out once you're done eating.
J. L.
The food is excellent. The staff are great and helpful as I have a 90 year old mum. Have been several time and will do so again. Cleans table to anti- covid standard.
S. C. A.
Not cheap but this is central London, and the veggie options were very reasonably priced and great quality. Quick efficient service.
J. D.
A favourite dim sum restaurant. Been going for years. Consistent high quality. Never sit by the main door in winter. Sometimes service is super rushed as they get so busy they want to get you out as soon as possible for the next customers.
A. B.
The best veggie rolls in London. My favourite Chinese in Chelsea with amazing crispy duck and phenomenal beef fat noodles. Prices are reasonable, service is friendlish and food arrives quick. It is the perfect place for a quick and tasty meal on the go. Highly recommended
A. R.
The food was extremely good. No issues with the staff though it has to be said that we were only three people and one knew exactly what to order. So I would highly recommend, as long as you have an idea of what you would like to eat (the dim sum is amazing!)
A. K.
Really tasty food! The atmosphere isn’t great, but food more than makes up for it.
S. F.
Yes, this place like to turn tables quick .Welcome to London. But it is worth the hassle. The food is exceptional good for the price you pay . This is a great place to enjoy your Chinese food as long as you are not planning to spend time there after you have finished your course.
J. N.
Easily a contender for best dim sum in London. Certainly surpasses the illustrious Royal China Club in terms of quality and flavour innovation. Decor is nice too! My only qualm is that due to the shape of the restaurant it can get crazy draughty if it's windy out.
R. M.
Definitely not the most welcoming of restaurants. The food was a bit cold when it arrived but the waitress was happy to get this problem sorted, so no real complaints. The inclusion of a 12.5% service charge was, i think unnecessary, for a standard table size. Overall the experience was ok.
L. M.
Food was partly excellent, but service was terrible. Asked waitress what different dishes were because of chinese names, was totally unfriendly and snippy while answering. Took away they the dishes after last bit of the main course was eaten and brought the bill right after that without us asking, did not even ask if we want dessert. None of the waitresses ever smiled.
A. R.

Great selection and delicious food. Central location that's easy to get to for tourists and anyone within central London. Only a few steps away from South Ken tube station.

Excellent food, sophisticated Chinese, especially dim sum. In my experience the service is friendly and efficient, they may not be to everyone's liking but I find that a smile goes a long way. Highly recommend.

Lovely food, enjoyed every meal I've had here. Service could be improved though!
Would still recommend this place for the great tasty food.
F. Z.
The service was good and I would say it is an upscale restaurant. The restaurant offers Cantonese cuisine, so the dishes I tried were a bit too sweet for me and I did not really like them personally.
s. s.
First time here... really nice meal ..good choices... tempura was good not oily... price average ... nice atmosfere .... also the service was quick ...l enjoyed the early dinner ( they offer a lunch menu until 4:30 )
J. H.
Best dim sum in London and great prices. The rest of the food is excellent. Can have long queues if you don't arrive early.
O. S.
Amazing!! Delicious, tender, authentic. We are definately going back and so nice not to have to travel all the way to China town for good YumCha/DimSum!
y. z.
Jia restaurant is a good place to go for dim sum. Foods are delicious but need to que especially on Sunday. I went there with my girlfriend last time , we got table fortunately. After we got our food, they tried to rash for tables ( collect empty plates immediately after we finish).I feel annoyed. When I complained, the staff explained that the other customers are in a que. When u r queuing like that next time ,U r going to get table quickly by serving like this .Fair enough.I feel satisfied for that point . Anyway Jia is a good dim sum place in South Kensington. I'll be there again
P. L.
I am Asian and didn't find the staff rude or racist at all. There was a cultural difference in the courtesy they offered me and non Asian diners.... with me they entertained my half broken Cantonese with encouragement, they were crisp, warm and courteous - Cantonese style. With the Non Asian diners they made effort to approach in English and in courtesy appropriate for the language and culture. I enjoyed being served by the team of very efficient and kind Chinese ladies.
The food was ok. It wasn't the best. Sure you can find better in Chinatown but one can argue why not Hong Kong. If you are in South Kensington, Jia does the job. If you are Asian, approach without chip on shoulder!
J. N.
Reasonable price point for the quality. Service is efficient, although there were some order mix-ups. Would go again to satisfy a dim sum craving. Good variety.
A. R.
Popular place for the university students and local neighbourhood residents. Value for money dishes and generous portions, without comprimising the taste. Dim Sum here is very good along with desserts to finish
A. Z.
Decent dim sum and service is OK. Seating is limited so there may be waiting time during busy hours. You won't go wrong with any of the noodle dishes.
I. A.
Jia has a friendly and efficient service..
The food is hot and tasty, beautifully present...
Love it..
P. J.
Bloody good! The best Chinese restaurant I have yet to visit in London. A bit pricey but the quality is there.
E.
It's a good place if you know what you want to order. The staff were not forthcoming with advice and we ended up with some sweet verity of food for our quick lunch.
m. K.
I love Dim Sum and for me this is the best Chinese restaurant in London for Dim Sum. High quality, good presentation. However the staff is quite rude. Customer service could be better.
J. Y.
Very authentic Chinese food. The food are reasonably priced and tastes amazing.
V. R.
Unique Chinese food and probably the best in London
A. K.
Great selection and delicious food. Central location that's easy to get to for tourists and anyone within central London. Only a few steps away from South Ken tube station.
E. I.
I guess they serve best dumpling in the area. Be careful while drinking tea if you order because they serve it with stone cups. As you can imagine, you cannot even hold the cup a while.
L. Q.
Some of the best dim sum in London that you're going to find outside of Chinatown. The service is terrible but if you can accept the rudeness as part and parcel of the experience you'll be glad you came.
a. t.
Great little place. Fast and attentive service. Good fresh food. Duck pancakes were excellent. Nice deco and clean :-)
S. N.
Very delicious, popular taste, Dim Sum Hong Kong level, first-class service, there are sweet smile, gives a sense of intimacy, I will go back and eat with my family ......
Z. N.
Great food , especially the dim sum. The service was a bit poor. But overall a great restaurant. 🥘🥡😀
B. G.
Fantastic food, great service and lovely staff, we have been eating at Jia's for 4 years, it's one of our favourite restaurants in the South Kensington area.
T.
Fantastic noodles and dim sum. Highly recommended. There are a lot of Chinese people dining there which means it's good!
C. S.

R. B.
Probably the best and most interesting dim sum in London, MSG free as well, the perfect place for lunch, with an interesting and reasonably priced wine list.
J. V.
Best dim sum in London
G. R.
New owners I suppose ... Still good food but I'm still missing the taste of the old jia ... Nice eatery in the heart of South Kensington
E. C.
Busy and rude. We were told we only had an hour to eat because they had so many people waiting. But the food is worth it. Delicious.
P. J.
Bloody good! The best Chinese restaurant I have yet to visit in London. A bit pricey but the quality is there.
H. H.
Service amusing but excellent. Food very tasty. Would definately visit again.

Jia has great food, great service and a wonderfully clean simplistic chinese look about it. Jia is my go to chinese food place! Everything is delicious and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves asian style food.

B. D.
Delicious dim sum, recommend the custard bao. Very reasonable prices if eating in a group.
S. G.
Lovely service. Great food.
L. S. S.
Service is so so and portions on the small sound. Although tasty you're better off going somewhere else.
W. H.
I usually go 2-3 time every week. The food is soooo delicious !! I'll keep come back.
M. F.
Service is utterly hopeless, but the dumplings largely make up for it. Close to best in town.
S. W.
Tasty food, good price, friendly staff and lots of vegan options.
N. G.
Fantastic new edition to South Kensington. Dim sum was really good!
Y. T.
The food is very nice as well as the decoration in the place. I would recommend for the family lunch.
S. T.
I liked the foods there, delicious!!
Services considered good.
Will be there again
D. J. D.
Brilliant dim sum. Don't Mind that service is not very friendly: quality of dishes compensate that!
K. W.
Small Chinese restaurant with pretty good food served by amusingly gruff staff who are more interested in closing on time than selling another bottle of wine.
N. v. M.
I m missing the dim sum plates and the chicken soup. i hope all this sacrifies pay tenfold times keep safe all..
L. H.
If you don't mind a direct and no-nonsense approach to customer service then this where to get superb food quickly.
