Reviews of Kai Mayfair
S. U.
Went as a group of 9, very calm and relaxing surroundings allowing you to be at ease throughout your whole time there. From the beginning staff members are super friendly and very attentative. It's very rare to meet people that genuinely remember each specific order per person and bring the food to those who have ordered a specific dish. Fantastic in that regards to avoid confusion.
Chicken, beef and lamb are the halal options here though the chef did mention one of the beef dishes isn't so I would double check before ordering.
The portion sizes for meals was slightly on the smaller side but the food quality was very good.
We ordered a bit of everything and everything we tasted did not fall below expectations. Burst of flavours from a variety of dishes. The menu has a variety of options so choose to your hearts content.
Pricing is reasonable, you will be spending more than you usually would but that is met by quality standards in staff and taste in food.
Would I go here again, yes. Spent roughly 3 hours there and enjoyed the whole occasion.

Celebrated my husband's birthday there. Had an amazing three course meals - Chinese New Year menu. The dessert, " Chocolate does grow on trees" is to die for and must try dessert. Never had a sparkling alcoholic tea before and it was levitating! Definitely recommend it if you want a fine dining experience with authentic flavour food.

Our group of 6 enjoyed an exquisite afternoon tea experience at Kai Mayfair. The restaurant was very indepth decorated in exotic forest theme, paired with a table full of trinkets, birds and cute menus. We ordered the standard afternoon tea set.
Staff were lovely and attentive, food was fun and delicious. We did not necessarily enjoy every single item, but among the highlights included the steamed egg and the veggie one. We requested extra for our fave, and they were happy to indulge us. The amount was plentiful and we were content. Would recommend.

We loved the afternoon tea at Kai Mayfair, and we particularly love to come over spring/ summer time. Good selection of food & drinks, pretty pretty tableware and food. Tastewise I’d give a 7/10 (Asian savoury selection could be more outstanding). Service felt a bit rushed at afternoon tea. Would love to try out their dinner menu soon!

Was able to walk-in for a lunch here and it was fabulous. The waiters were very helpful and with eating a big and deep fried appetizer (wasabi shrimp) they did a quarter Peking duck which had a lot of meat. Wrapped it up with a tropical dessert that was refreshing!
P.
It was a lovely experience! I went for my birthday and really enjoyed every part of the afternoon tea! We all absolutely loved the food and the delicious clever twists on a traditional afternoon tea! The service was perfect and they were so kind to make sure we had enough food and bring us more if we needed. They also brought a thoughtful birthday treat with a candle which was so unexpected!
I would really recommend going and it is absolutely worth the price!!
A. H.
Very beautiful restaurant interior and polite service. The food was artfully presented. The tongue numbing fish was fantastic. We were a bit disappointed by the chili lobster dish since it felt like for the price we paid, we didn’t get much seafood. The pandan crime brûlée was fantastic though—a must order!
P. s.
It’s got good ambience. Nice mix of Chinese/Indian flavors. The portion sizes were just right. There is a good selection of vegetarian options which is always good to see. The desserts are very good too. This is one of the better places in Mayfair - quite a relaxed pace too - we were never rushed like in certain other places. Will go again!

The service was great - very attentive, professional and friendly staff, who gave great recommendations for dishes. The food was absolutely delicious - I went for the prawns (outstanding and very good portion sizes), rice (probably one of the best rice dishes I've had in a restaurant), and the fruit dessert. Tasty cocktails. Great atmosphere, good space (lively but with sufficient privacy for your table) and they don't rush you. Given the great food, it being Michelin star and location, it was of course one of your more higher priced restaurants (I.e. it's not like going to your local zizzis) but I actually thought for what it was, it was more reasonably priced compared to what I thought it would be! Would give 4.5 stars if I could. The only reason I did not go for 5 is because they didn't have the main dish I originally wanted as were sold out so slightly disappointed there, but otherwise a great experience.
H. I.
Seriously good food, welcoming ambience and attentive staff.
I’m not big on meat - and normally would avoid lamb - but I enjoyed thoroughly my lamb chop. And I don’t have a sweet tooth but the desserts were nothing short of divine, and inventively fun!
I’d give Kai five stars if the wagyu was also halal and if the portions of those that we had - eg soft-shelled crab and signature wasabi shrimp - were slightly larger.

Lovely place and amazing food, we were in awe when we tasted the wasabi prawn, it was melt in the mouth experience. All the food was amazing and really satisfied. Planning to come back again soon 😊

I am almost loathe to tell people about this gem of a spot. However, this delightful, whimsical and eclectically elegant spot had me at the entrance. Pistachio Créme Bruleé, Crispy Duck on a Bao and Rosebud Tea mean that this isn't the standard Scone, Cakes and Tea Sandwiches afternoon tea. You owe it to yourself to search Kai out and indulge yourself.
R. H. H.
Wonderful experience with extraordinary variations on classic westernised Chinese dishes. Some interesting new ones too. The hot & sour soup was especially good, as was the lobster noodles and green mango prawns.
a. g.
Very nice and tasty food. Staf is very pleasent. Prices are high. Think I had better crispy duck before. The deserts are exceptional which is why the pictures are here
D. S.
Visited for dinner and all dishes were prepared top class. They put desserts at the beginning of the menu for a good reason - you can’t miss them, must have to order!
M. Y.
Kai is my favourite Asian restaurant in London. The food and service truly reflect Michelin rated quality. The starters are nice and light which go well with either a cocktail or lemonade. The duck is amazing and tastes very fresh. However, my personal favourite is the cashew chicken. They have also some dishes off the menu which are reserved for long-term costumers. After the good even if you’re full please try a dessert. They’re awesome at Kai :)
Tip: In summer I recommend sitting outside where they have only 3 tables available. The restaurant is located on a calm street next to a small church where if lucky you can watch a wedding..
D. H.
The venue is gorgeous and the food was delicious.
They really have an amazing ability to serve food you'd recognise as a list of ingredients but not think to put together on a plate. My personal favourites were the Wasabi Bean Curd Rolls and the Pandan Crème Brule.
A. B.
Unimpressive for afternoon tea. Only seven tea varieties. Sweet treats lacked flavour. Service felt a little unenthusiastic. They won’t let you take anything away with you, and we had to ask for double helpings as the servings were not generous.
Compared to Fortnums or the Renaissance St Pancras, disappointing. I did like the birds and the secrets idea, that was lovely.
A. Z.
Amazing food quality! Best afternoon tea I’ve had in London. Cute mahjong tiles, money cake alongside the warm vibe of the place. Felt very welcomed by the friendly staff :)
S. H.
Came on the 12th and then again on the 18th with my sister and had such an amazing experience. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, staff are amazing and so friendly, worth the money you pay for and definitely bringing my mama here for her birthday celebration. I'll be back next month and I cant wait 👏🏼👏🏼
N. K.
I booked an afternoon. Tea for me and my sister in law . When we arrived we were greeted so nicely and asked to take a seat whilst they got the table ready , we were then shown to the table which was downstairs and the set up was so beautiful . The order was taken and everything was explained so well . When it arrived the food the experience was amazing . The service is exceptional and I would definitely be coming back here .
J. L.
Absolutely loved it here. So much fun and the afternoon tea was tasty. Love the DIY giant macaroons too. Will come back again!! Shame there is no gluten free version, but would worth it anyway haha
I. A.
Amazing layers of flavour and exceptional service. Highly recommend and will be back for more.
L. Z.
One of the only few Chinese restaurants in London managed to maintain impeccable consistency over the years, always had pleasant time here no matter what occasion, worth every penny.
Now has nice selection of wines too, the two sommelier were outstanding
S. R.
Very good, small, Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant with excellent food and service. A bit on the pricey side.
Y. E.
Second time to visit and still impressed. Kai is a one Michelin star Chinese restaurant in the heart of Mayfair. Beef, lamb and chicken are halal. Food is scrumptious, service is impeccable and the dessert is just out of this world.
H. r.
Food is always good. Great service, and the wine list is excellent. Small drawback is that every dish is a bit small. Because of this, we can enjoy more dishes. One of the best Chinese restaurants in London, definitely.
P. J.
A marvellous atmosphere for business meeting or even a date. Extravagant chinese meal.
J. O.
Absolutely wonderful and delightful place. I took my fiancée there for her birthday and very pleased to say that it was worthy of the occasion.
The staff were very attentive without being intrusive at all, better portion sizes than i was expecting and the deserts are magical!
Thank you to all the staff at Kai for making this a great birthday dinner
N. M.
We were disappointed by Kai, considering it is a Michelin 1 star restaurant. The starters and desserts we had were quite good but the main course was particularly disappointing. We had to order an extra dish as what we had ordered was insufficient. The extra dish was served swiftly. It may have just been the dishes we ordered but we felt that the whole experience lacked what we have come to expect and the whole affair we felt was over priced.
B. C.
Nice restaurant but the food and the space are really not that special. Not sure how they got that Michelin 🌟! We were seated downstairs, which is a narrow windowless basement with eclectic decor. Food wise we had their signature dish Wasabi Prawns (did not look appetising at all though tasted OK), soft shell crab (OK), a whole crispy duck (nice but same can be found in Chinatown) and some other sundries. Best part were their desserts, with a lovely durian souffle and cute petit-fours. The sommelier was however very good!
J. V. M.
Amazing, had chinese whipers afternoon tea, food is fantatsic, service was fantastic.
R. A.
I highly recommend this restuarant if you look for authentic Chinese food with a bunch of very nice staff. Thank you Kai!
H. A.
Come here for gastronomic entertainment. The food was absolutely delicious, the way the flavours combined yet stood out is a sign of how much care went into each dish and each ingredient. Wasabi prawns are their signature dish and I would highly recommend. The hot and sour soup was a work of art. The ambiance was very chilled which somehow helped the food and flavours stand out more, almost as if intended. Would definitely come back.
H. P.
This place is something special.. the food was on point, the portions realistic and the service was delightful. It is not an inexpensive restaurant and the food lives up to the high standard to align with the price.
A. K.
Have been visiting kai for over 10 years, this vist somehow was somewhat underwhelming. While what we ordered, the food was good but not outstanding. Atleast 5 dishes from the menu were sold out (bit strange on a Sunday evening and given that this isn't a very extensive menu). Lastly service was not Michelin star level, the servers were a bit disjointed and the hostess wasn't exactly polite/welcoming. Given the price levels and the lofty standards set by kai, this visit was sadly not up to the mark.
Z. Z.
Went for the afternoon tea, was an amazing experience. Excellent service, great food, creative menu. Special thanks to our server Manee who was extremely polite and attentive. Would strongly recommend!
D. I.
We were there specifically for the Peking Duck and we were not disappointed. The service staff was quite pleasant and they provided good drink advice for our meal. The pork belly was delicious and the durian dessert was an absolute hit! I can't say much about the décor, it didn't make a huge impression on me, but I definitely had a good time and I would visit Kai again.
F. T.
Was there for dinner. Service was friendly, but a bit stiff, even for such a restaurant. Allergy aware and accommodating when it comes to gluten free, which isn't that easy at a Chinese restaurant.
As for the food itself, it was good but not outstanding. In one of the dishes the lobster was slightly overcooked, and the chicken thighs in another dish were uneven.
Considering it has a Michelin star I was expecting better, but all in all it was decent modern Chinese food.
K. R.
Fantastic Afternoon Tea with great and attentive service and delicious food. Beautiful interior and delightful ambiance. The servers checked in on us several times but were never instrusive. They offer extras on any of the items you especially liked so they make sure you're 110% full. Favorites were the Pandan Creme Brulee that was the perfect level of richness, and the clotted cream on macaron cookie, which was a great idea!
C. W.
All the dishes tried were superb. Their signature wasabi prawns is highly recommended. The prawns are lightly flavoured with wasabi so it doesn't have the bite of wasabi on your tongue.
We had a superb pairing of the two mains of chili lobster and the lobster noodles called lobster & lobster. It's not specifically stated but the chili lobster has quite a kick for a fine dining restaurant. It has a delicious gravy sauce coating the lobster, prawns and scallops. The fried mantou was light and is used to soak up the gravy.
The ginger, spring onion lobster noodles was well cooked and the lobster meat was tender and springy. I didn't think it had enough gravy but there was enough gravy in the other chili lobster dish to make a perfect pairing of two lobster mains. Personally, I wouldn't order the lobster noodles by itself.
Whether you love or hate the taste of durian, only the best of it remains in this vanilla durian soufflé with salted caramel sauce. Best experienced once of this uniquely flavoured King of Fruits soufflé.
J. I.
Amazing dining experience, was suprised how many items on the menu were halal 🙏. Would highly recommend this restaurant. The wasabi Prawns were beyond amazing !! The portions were also generous sizes compared to other high end restaurants.
J. R.
Definitely a new experience of afternoon tea. My sister reserved this place situated in Mayfair and needless to say, we were not disappointed. I am a fan of afternoon tea and dainty settings, this is perfect to spend the afternoon with your loved ones. The food was lovely and delicately prepared and a lot of thought had gone into making this afternoon tea session.

Our one year anniversary experience here was amazing. We got recommended this place by a close friend. When we arrived our coats got kindly taken away and also the bouquet of flowers we were holding. We got seated and ordered a mouth fresher cocktail. Our table clerk Ehrad was very well spoken and professional. He answered all our questions and also suggested many dishes. We were very happy with our meals as they tasted delicious. Presentation was good. Table was quilted and big. Seats were comfortable also. Would highly recommend this Chinese restaurant to all. I would say the Prawns as starter was the best dish we had that day.
K. K.
Kai should be on any food lovers 'to do' list. It is still one of the best Chinese restaurants I have had the pleasure of dining in. The food and service here are excellent, especially the manager (who's name escapes me) she always remembers all my clients names and greets them with a warm welcome whenever we visit. The menu is concise, opting for quality over quantity of dishes offered. The Chilean Sea bass and the Black Pepper Wagyu are not to be missed and, if you have room for it, they have an amazing chocolate dessert that looks like something Heston Blumenthal would create. Highly recommended
T. M.
A spectacular tasting lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The whole culinary experience was faultless and the service was impeccable. (I can also confirm that the hot and sour soup, as the menu suggests, is the best ever). The lovely treat from the restaurant to mark our anniversary was unexpected and a wonderful gesture.
K. P.
I really enjoyed the food here. We spent 80 each including drinks and 3 courses. We were stuffed at the end of it. This is not a cheap place but I would be happy to come back ( in a year's time!). There are good choices for vegetarians. I thought the smdesserts were amazing, especially the chocolate forest one. They were all very creative and tasty.
L. N.
Honestly one of the best dinning experiences I have had in London. What made it particularly great was their wine connoisseur Matt, who did not miss a beat when it came to recommending great wines. I will definitely be coming here again!
M. H.
Beautiful decor with lovely art plastered around the restaurant. The food was great and the service was even better. I would return again to try other options
W.
Beautiful setting and cute concepts with the wishing birds, macarons instead of scones, large selection of obscure teas and the tea flight. Only thing I’d say is the savoury items were too small and few. They were delicious if only there was more of it and slightly less sweet items. The pandan cake was great though!
L. M.
The food was absolutely amazing! I had the crispy aromatic duck and it was so delicious. I found the chicken with cashew nuts to be highly spicy I don’t recommend ordering that. But the food tasted amazing. I don’t like the live fish in tanks concept which is why the -1 rating. I’d definitely visit again. Friendly staff too.
M. H.
Chinese New Year 2021 vegetarian takeaway stunning food from an amazing restaurant.
One of our favourites before lockdown and our favourite lockdown takeaway.
J. P.
Pork belly and the soft shell crab were top on the list. Chicken and noodles were average. Presentation of the desserts were incredible but taste wise not great.
M. S.
Delicious roasted duck. Fried rice taste good. A vegetarian dish didn’t come as per explain in menu. Good if you are looking for light chinese food.
M. T.
The wasabi prawns never fail to blow me away. The black pepper beef was well seasoned and tender and the amazing desserts was a great way to end the meal. It goes without saying that the service was great! Looking forward to come back here in the future!
p. v.
Beautiful setting, and great atmosphere. The afternoon tea, Chinese whispers, was a wonderful fusion of Chinese bites as well as traditional European deserts.
The tea servings, starting with a fantastic triple of sparkling tea, was excellent!
If I could chose though, I would emphasise more on the Chinese flavours.
Staff was wonderful!
See you again soon.
T. F.
Delicious food and was really good value during the eat out to help out scheme. I must admit the portions left more to be desired hence the reduction in star but on the whole it was a pleasant experience for a birthday meal!
G. L.
Absolutely amazing experience !! I went there with my girlfriend on the Saturday at lunch time , that’s the only day and time they offer there “brunch” option. For 55£ only you’ll get 15 delicious dishes and dessert. The cocktails served are also absolutely delicious. It’s so worthy of the price. Top for me was the seabass, the ribs, the pork belly and the salad starter. I highly recommend ! Worth the Michelin star. (Little tip .. if you’re short on the food, kindly ask for more they will serve you 🙃)

Kai Mayfair - Best Chinese Restaurant in London. Located on 65 South Audley Street, Mayfair, near Park Lane in London, England. It opened in 1993 and is owned by Rajan Jeyabalan and the current Head Chef is Alex Chow. Combines warm and attentive service in surroundings that whisper luxury perfect for ‘romance or business’. The style is fresh and innovative but never forgetting it’s true Chinese roots.
D. H.
Went there for my wife’s birthday and I have to say it has been one of the best restaurants we have been in London! From starters to deserts we had a feast!! The lamb, lobster&lobster and the Chocolate does grow in the trees are a no brainer!! 1000% recommended
D. S.
Consistently good. Easily the best Chinese food in London. Great ambience too
A. S.
Amazing place to dine in love it 😍
嘤.
1 michelin star Chinese restaurant. Good portion, comparable to Chinatown restaurant but higher price. Recommend Nanyang chilli lobster, so delicious so we ate all the sauce!
R. F.
Loved the ambience. Curry shrimps was amazing.. the best part was the dessert 10/10.
G. F.
Excellent food and service. If not the best, then one of the best ‘English’ Chinese restaurants that you will eat in. (By ‘English’ I mean what us Brits are used to - not how the Chinese cook food…… I.e. duck and pancakes are really amazing but they are an English tradition and not an authentic Chinese meal!)
J. K.
Absolutely delicious food, great atmosphere with an excellent team, attentive without hovering. Will definitely go again.
M. T. M. L.
Amazing restaurant, definitely on the pricier end but very excellent quality. Would definitely recommend the Peking duck and their wide range of cocktails! (it’s apparently Adele’s favourite Chinese restaurant)
S. B.
Really, really lovely food; all the vegetarian offerings felt innovative and true to their Chinese counterparts. The “Chai” dishes were some of the best meat substitutes I’ve ever had! Highly, highly recommend Kai :)
A. A.
Nice welcoming, great services, nice atmosphere, tasty dishes, overpriced little bit, don’t miss the wasabi prawns, sour soup, crispy duck and cream brûlée
I highly recommend this place
Need reservation
N. Y.
Outstanding food and experience.
Food was amazing with generous portions.
Vegetarian options and the dessert were a great success ☺️
Z.
Great ambience, interesting decor and above all exciting food; the appetizers are delicious but quantities are small, the mains, lobster, lamb and chicken were exquisite but felt the sauces slightly overpowering. Above all a good restaurant and you will appetite the Michelin star, only real drawback was that the staff probably didn't have their best day- need to be on the ball.
R. B.
Amazing as always … my favorite 😍 very friendly staff and super yummy food
S. F.
We went to the restaurant for the Chinese Whispers Afternoon Tea. Staff were very polite, and the theme was really lovely - what one might expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. The savoury food was good, but the sweet food was a little hit and miss. The tea and china looked great, but it was a little frustrating to see a supplement charge on several of the teas (which is part of what one pays for in afternoon tea). We asked for a good table and let them know it was our birthday in the booking, but we were seated next to the toilets, and watched whilst they brought out a special birthday plate for another table and forgot about our birthday.
L. X. (.
Went there for dinner. Food was absolutely on point and authentic! I have been to dozens of high end restaurants in Shanghai, China and I can say Kai is one of the best amongst all Chinese restaurants that I have been to. The service was very friendly, one portion of food came late and we didnot feel like having it anymore. The waitress noticed and canceled it on the bill for us before we even need to ask! The fine details like this makes me want to go there again, and i definitely will visit again! I would strongly recommend anyone this place, if you want to try authentic chinese food (Wasabi Prawn and Steamed Bass are my fav) combined with the finest service and experiences. The price/portion is more than accpectable even without considering it's a Michelin Restaurant in Mayfair.
S. G.
Deserves its Michelin star for culinary experience. The restaurant is comfortable and the staff are efficient and friendly.
I. m.
Everything about this place is exceptional the food, decor, staff even the rest rooms lol, it's my absolute favourite! the attention to detail is awesome. The food is made with the best ingredients, you can tell by the taste and never greasy it's Chinese food at it's BEST!!
C. M.
I was so impressed by this place, I went twice during my trip. The hot and sour was my favorite dish and the staff is very helpful when deciding what to order.
j. f.
What amazing restaurant. They had fantastic wagu and the deserts were absolutely out of this world. Highly recommended going here.
M. B.
High quality “home” food, reasonable price and good service. However, the star feels overrated
P. T.
The shrimp and seafood are outstanding as well as the durian soufflé. Their sommelier is knowledgeable and loves to teach you about new wines.
A. R.
Kai Mayfair is a decent place for a night out but is pretty expensive. The ambience was good and the service was excellent. We ordered the prawn canapes, the pork belly bao, the sweet and sour pork, the nanyang chicken along with the noodles with lobster essence. The standout dishes for me were the noodles and the chocolate dessert. The menu is fairly limited and the dishes aren't standout but were quite tasty nevertheless.
k. a.
Wonderful food to enjoy and don't forget to try desserts, its yummy
M. I.
Kia one Michelin ⭐️ so much worth it ..
One of the best Chinese in town ..
Prawns on toast 👍
Wasabi prawns 👍
Peking Duck 👍
C.
Pretty nice. Slightly pricey but overall food is tasty and service good.
F. L.
Really nice people and excellent customer service! Best Chinese I have ever had, would recommend over and over again!!
S. C.
The food is very good, but it doesn't justify the prices.
It reminds me of a type of 'pan-Asian' cuisine that is largely popular with my grandparents' generation. My overall impression was the fusion of Japanese, Chinese and various other South East Asian cuisines, which may or may not have been the chef's intention, but it didn't 'wow' me. There are lots of restaurants that do this type of fusion out of ignorance, not intention.
I was also struck by the impression of a fine dining take on traditional favourites (the pork belly with fried rice for example). Again, I don't know if this is intentional. If so, it's interesting, but not much more than that (and not, I wouldn't have thought, deserving of a Michelin star). If not intentional, it's embarrassing to pay so much for comfort food made fancy.
On the duck specifically - I've had better crispy duck elsewhere for half the price.
Edit: the dessert was the best bit. Well done to the pastry chef.
E.
Very nice high end Chinese food, the beef is just amazing there. Duck was just your normal duck with the rolls. Best part was the dessert, taste/presentation both 10/10. Overall a 4/5 for me, not the best Chinese but definitely top 5 in London! I recommend, worth checking out!
J. A.
Definetly a must! Excellent customer service - the lamb chops was the best I've ever had perfectly tender and juicy! Beautiful place most definitely recommended
A. W.
Immaculate service. The vegetarian food choices on and off the menu is fantastic. Can't complain about table service. The welcome into the resturant can be hit and miss. Many times "cold" attitude. Very High prices for value for money but best tasting. Roughly £100 per head !!
A. O.
One of my long-time favourites. Food is amazing and staff are attentive and really kind. The sommelier really knows what he is talking about too! Highly recommend the Lobster & Lobster dish and the crème brûlée for dessert. Also ask for Mani! Amazing service
G. H.
Decor is great, food was amazing even with the slightly limited menu due to COVID situation.
Staff are friendly and well informed, the service is just the best.
An awesome meal with great wines to match, could not have asked for anything more
We highly recommend trying the Chinese Ice Wine (Cailonglin Vidal, Silver Label I think) with desert which was something recommended by the team and did not disappoint!!
Thank You to the entire team for a very memorable meal and a great evening
A. B.
I've visited Kai a few days ago with friends and we weren't disapointed! The food was gorgeous, waiters were very knowledgeable and a special to the sommelier (short and bald guy) who was brilliant, he asked us a few questions and found the perfect wine to match our tastes and food. All in all, the staff couldn't have been better, the food was amazing and the wine was perfect! Great place and atmosphere!
a. h.
We had afternoon tea there and the food and service was fantastic. Loved the Pan Asian Fusion bites followed by the lush macaroons and cakes with chocolate bits and sprinklings from the test tubes with the faces of the pastry chefs stuck on them. Mayfair prices but worth it for a treat!
i. n.
Food is really nice abit pricey but definitely worth it. The desserts are to die for.
W. F.
It was great experience.. what a delicious food .. I just suggest either increase quantity of food and keep the price or reduce the prices little bit..
D. P.
Great innovative oriental food. Super location and attentive staff.
J. M.
Great service, food was very tasty. Would recommend this place
E. v. H.
We had a pleasure to order a Valentine’s / Chinese New Year package. Absolutely breathtaking! Incredible experience which we will never forget. Thank you for making our evening so special. Loved it!!!!!
A. H.
Amazing flavors. Wasabi Prawns were divine and the dessert was on another level.
m. j.
Visited for my wife's birthday and cannot fault this place from start to finish. All staff were attentive and polite. Sommelier was very knowledgeable and wine paired perfectly with the food. The food was the best Chinese I've ever tasted. Incredible. Highly recommend.
M. S.
This was out second visit, a few years ago was the first. On the first visit the food was superb; the best pork belly I have ever had, but the portions were typical high end-tiny! I know this is to be expected, but we left hungry! That has changed! The portions are more sensible, whilst the quality has not been compromised. I can't fault the service at all. It was very expensive for us, but absolutely worth it, for special occasions, and it was my 40th birthday! simply the best Chinese food I have had in the UK!
C. S.
Absolutely top notch- has to rate as one of the best high-end Chinese restaurants in London. With service to match.
D. D.
Great Chinese fusion food. Definitely a must have place. The sea bass is a definite must eat.
S. M.
I've been raving about Kai to all of my friends!
We went for the Saturday brunch menu and had an exceptional time.
The service is excellent, highly attentive and generous and not at all pretentious.
The food was delicious.
The experience was wonderful.
All in all excellent value with the food-only brunch menu starting at £55, would visit again.
K. s.
The Chinese whispers afternoon was really memorable. Vibes is nice and service was good. Very indifferent afternoon tea to the classic English one
A. C.
Chinese fine dining style restaurants. Food was alright. With the price that you are paying probably was expecting a little bit more from the food. Dessert was a total let down. Seats was a bit close with other table. Service was okay. I would say this is not authentic Chinese food nor fine dining standard. For try once is okay but don't think will be back as there's many restaurants offering more interesting menu.
A. T.
Incredible food and super service. It’s expensive but a real treat. The desserts are amazing.
N. S.
The food is good, but way overpriced. I am happy to pay extra when the food is worth it, this is not. You can get food as good in plenty of other places. The spicy cocktail (can't remember the name) was good and the Canapes of prawn on toast were delicious! The rest was blah... We tried about 5 appetizers and 4 main dishes...
K. K.
Creative yet authentic Chinese cuisine. Michelin star this place has is absolutely well deserved (and perhaps even two stars are in order!). Super friendly restaurant team, the place is welcoming and genuine.
D. D.
Wonderful meal and evening. Spectacular service as well. One of my favourite places to have some of the best Chinese food in London.
P.
Very accommodating to our birthday request. The food was amazing really good. We had quite a few dishes. They were all amazing. The wasabi prawns were too nice and the nan yang lobster wooowee they stood out the most to me
T. H.
Daylight robbery! Very average, stodgy comfort food with very little refinement. We were encouraged to order 3 starters and 3 mains (there were two of us) which was absolutely not necessary and hiked the bill up to an eye watering £400. Everything tasted of the same cloying sweetness and we couldn’t face having a dessert. We’ve had a better meal in China town for a quarter of the price. Service ok and pleasant and surroundings nice but all very middle of the road. The only point of difference was the sky high bill.
S. C.
The best fine dining Chinese restaurant in my opinion! The food is absolutely delicious and the services is impeccable. As mentioned by many other reviewers, the famous prawn dish is nothing like what you've had before. Everything else we ordered was also amazing. 100% worth a visit for a special occasion as the prices are genuinely eye-watering but totally worth it!!
S. n.
Food was absolutely delicious also you won't regret getting dessert from this place, I will definitely be back and will recommend to all my friends ❤
K.
Delicious food and great service on new year’s eve for us and the kids.
S. H.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and v good food. Definetely on the expesive side (e.g. 6 prawns for £35 but it was tasty so no complaints) so be prepared to spend (2 mocktails, 1 starter, 2 mains, 1 side and 2 desserts - approx £170 incl service)
R. G.
Forget other Chinese restaurants. This is THE best place for Chinese cuisine in London! Can't rate it enough - a great place to eat on special occasions! Definitely try their wasabi prawns!
r. h.
Stunning surroundings, I could watch the fish all night. Every dish we were served was hot, well cooked and extremely tasty. Waiting staff were attentive and not pretentious; I would recommend this restaurant and shall return.
K. C.
A great experience! I have never enjoyed a meal more. The service was impeccable the food was out of this world. The staff made me feel welcome in a beautiful atmosphere of gastronomy extraordinaire! The sommelier chose the perfect pairings for every plate we enjoyed . It was a night I will truly remember the rest of my life! Thank you so much for such an incredible evening! ❤️
A. K.
Classy, high end, and decently delicious.
- Cocktails are absolutely delicious - the Lychee martini packed a punch and was very well made (17 pounds)
- Kavalan limited edition - super rare bottle; really enjoyed it
- Beef - 10/10 - probably the best dish of the night; the sauce and crunchiness were spot on
- 1/2 duck - 8/10 - extremely huge portions. Honestly likely filling enough for 2 people in itself as a meal
- Longetivity noodles - decent 6/10 - would pass; temperature was okay and would be better hotter
- Pork Belly cooked 18 hours - 5/10 - was a bit dry; not missing out. Flavors were not too unique
Overall, the aura was fun, classy, and high end. A few of the servers were still in training, so no harm there. The audience that goes there are mainly tourists, so many were talking on their cell phones, asking for chargers, and creating noise. Just a caution.
Would visit again for a special occasion. Not for regular dining.
S.
I love kai! The food is always 10/10 and the service is wonderful also! Definitely one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in London
H. B.
Went to Kai with friends to celebrate a milestone birthday. First of all we were almost half an hour late but the restaurant was very accommodating, they held our table and didn't make a fuss. The food was absolutely excusite. Even some of the traditional dishes like miso soup were mouth wateringly amazing. But what really made this a 5 star experience for me was the staff. Each member of staff was so polite, attentive and you can see they took great pride in their work. Everyone greeted us with a smile and they really made us feel like special guests. They even surprised my friend (who was celebrating her 30th) with a little platter of treats which was unexpected. Kai really do go out of their way. A 3 course meal with drinks for 4 people came to £300 but if you're looking for an evening out and want to experience brilliant food and service then Kai is the place to go
K. W.
Managed to turn what started as a very poor experience into an good one. I had booked over a month in advance specifically for the brunch tasting menu advertised on opentable and their site. The meal was to celebrate the end of third year exams and coincided with my and my girlfriend's birthdays, so we chose Kai for a special dining experience. I'm a student, so needless to say this is not the kind of place I go to much (or ever tbh!). Less than 24hrs before the meal I was called and told the menu I booked for was no longer offered, and a pretty poor alternative (afternoon nibbles instead of a 14-course brunch menu) was offered. On arrival service was courteous but when I explained our disappointment about the change to our booking the response was cold, bordering on outright rude. I understand that most of your clients are rich and can order a feast off the a-la-carte with the bat of an eyelid but as a michelin star restaurant you must understand this is not the case for everyone. Fortunately a different waiter appeared, that offered to build us a menu to replace the on we booked for. This uncomfortable experience aside, the meal was really great. The wasabi prawns and sea bass in particular were stunning, and the dessert, pandan creme brulee, was truly excellent. Also, for those that don't drink, I highly recommend the tea! It's really excellent and actually complements the food very well. Overall, I recommend Kai, the food is excellent and the restaurant is very cosy. However the first 10 minutes came close to ruining the entire experience. Be aware that some people will come here for a really special meal and even if for you they're just another table to serve, it might be really important for them.
S. P.
Brilliant experience from the moment we entered to the moment we left. We were greeted by very friendly staff and the menu was explained to us. The sommelier, knew what we had order, and advised us which wine would go best with our meal. All the food tasted fantastic. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to dine out for special occasions. I will be visiting again soon.
J. B.
Quality, Service & Ambience was up to my expectation. The Waitress was very accommodative despite a busy day. Had lunch for pax of 4.
K. M.
Beautiful decor, service was impeccable, amazing food, would highly recommend.
After dining in many Mayfair restaurants, Kai has become an immediate favourite. Couldn’t fault anything, we will be returning soon.
s. c.
Nice afternoon tea experience
刘.
We had the 3 course evening meal with glass of champagne for £39 each. Champagne was good. The service was excellent from the moment we arrived. I don't think it would have made any difference how much you spend here, the service would be very good. Starters included goats chees with beets - lovely. We had rib of beef as main...
A. R.
My partner and I went to Kai to celebrate his new job. The service was amazing , our waiter was very thoughtful! We ordered the soft shell crab and pork belly buns as starters. My soft-shell crab was delightful although it really was my main that was dish of the day. I had the Nanjing Chilli Lobster - it was beautiful! The best chinese I have had in London. Highly recommend the scented fried rice too.
C. E.
The best Chinese restaurant in London for dinner, though not dim sum, purely from a food perspective. The food is always delicious and well cooked and it's a simple, low key, discreet place for locals. The service can be slightly dubious- I've had one occasion from a dozen or so over the years where I had to complain about the hot stone not being hot enough and the new waitress tried to argue that was how it should be but that was corrected once the manager was called which should not have needed to happen.
S. H.
Delicious cocktails and some best Chinese-inspired food out in London.
P. P.
Pretty disappointing. For this price range we expected best in class Chinese cuisine, and nothing about Kai was, in fact, groundbreaking. I craved comfort food and ordered sweet and sour pork, which came with more batter than meat. Wagyu beef was nice, but it doesn't require much skill. Most disappointing was the signature hot and sour soup. It was not hot (spicy) and definitely not the best I tried, sorry. Although definitely most expensive price tag (£21?!). Portions small, service good, atmosphere bland. Wine was actually the highlight of the dinner. Verdict: Overpriced and overhyped. There are better places in London to spend a few hundred on a dinner, and even with a view.
N. C.
Beautiful restaurant and I love those whispers birds decorations. Only tried afternoon tea so far, but we are impressed by the drink menu, will come back soon!
J. H.
Truly excellent, exceptional food, couldn't fault it. The pork was incredible. However, giving 4 stars due to the dreadful music that was playing throughout - far far too loud and intrusive. Sounded like a beach club in Miami. Not expected in such a high quality restaurant. Additionally the bathrooms were surprisingly badly maintained.
R. S.
Excellent food and ambience. We had the Foie Gras and Wasabi Prawns for starters which were both superb. For mains, we had the Lobster Noodles and Veal Rib. The veal was a bit difficult to eat as we were sharing and it came as a single chop. The meat however, was sublime. Service was attentive and friendly too
C. W.
One of the best in its class. Well done & thanks! 😷👍👌
R. S.
Impeccable service and the food is out of this world!
N. K.
By all means the most delicious Chinese I've ever tasted. We celebrated my father's birthday here and it was great. The service was good and the staff even prepared a surprise for him. Definitely recommend trying the chicken with cashew nuts.
유.
My overall experience wasn't a 10/10 but the food here is very good, albeit not very Chinese (what do you expect from a Chinese in Mayfair, though). You can definitely see the Malaysian touches on the menu, e.g. the pandan creme brulee with stolen milo, which was very good, and Sarawakian noodles. The wasabi prawns and spare ribs were excellent. I had the lamb, which was very good, although it was taken away by the chef since he wasn't satisfied with it for some reason and returned. Rice was okay, little dry/tough? Dessert here is one of the best I've had in London and the service is attentive and kind. Yes, quite overpriced...
D. H.
The Chinese Whispers Afternoon tea was fantastic, by far the best afternoon tea that my wife and I have been to. The food not only tasted amazing but was authentic as well. The service provided was top notch.
N. C.
Average of 3 stars because the lunch was not worth the price I paid and I do not think that the food is Michelin worthy. However, the Afternoon Tea was amazing; the best I've ever had and it is the only reason I would return to Kai.
L.
Best Chinese Restaurant I had ever visited. Attentive service, excellent dishes with chai wasabi being a masterpiece of their food menu and a jewel in a crown. Congrats to the head chef he can be very proud of his team.
M. T.
Just amazing. After months of hearing great things about Kai and their famous wasabi prawns, I decided to take my girlfriend to Kai for her birthday. The staff were so attentive and it was clear how much attention to detail and creativity has gone into everything.
We'll definitely be back!
E. M.
Serving wonderful twists on traditional Chinese cuisine. The best soft shell crab, very tasty Berkshire pork and fantastic Sea Bass. The dishes are large enough to share. One of my favorite spots in London.
D. N.
Kai is an amazing restaurant! Food is great with substantial porions and the drinks were exquisite! Wellington our waiter was lovely wth great customer service skills and very knowledgable. Would highly recommend
A. A.
Kai Mayfair is an upscale chinese restaurant. The food is beautiful, we had fantastic crispy duck, chilli lobster, prawn on toast and spicy crab. The absolute best thing about this place, however, is not the food - if you can believe that. It is actually the customer service and they child friendly environment and hosts. They made our otherwise cranky, teething 16 year so at home and cheerful that we were able to have our first peaceful meal on our London trip. I love these guys for this, they really did go out of their way to make both our kids feel at home - they engaged with them, they treated them with respect and humor. I hate to say this but this is something extremely rare for a Metropolitan, international capital like London. Anyway, for this alone, I will make Kai Mayfair a tradition on every single visit to London going forward. I love Kai Mayfair!!!
R. L.
A new experience of Afternoon Tea. Situated in the heart of Mayfair, this restaurant provides a fabulous oasis of peace and calm for a very special experience. The Chinese Whispers Afternoon tea, comes with a myriad of delights and treats, served with the theme of the songbird. The food and delicacies and huge range of teas all introduced by the very knowledgeable staff, were exquisite, from the Bao sliders, macaroons to the beautiful Mah Jong tiles contructed from white chocolate with a gorgeous filling. All supplemented with a an individual choice of tea and a glass of Pink champagne. Just wonderful, highly recommend this exclusive experience
Y. O. W.
The best Chinese restaurnat in London period.
You will get a pleasant surprise whenever a dish is served as the taste will just blow you out of this world. You will also be surprised to bump into a movie star or a pop star when you go here. There are other famous Chinese restaursnts in London but Kai beats them all.
I particularly like their Jasmin rice among all my favorite dishes. They also have a great selection of fine wine. Go Go Go!
V. S.
You know the great fact that the Chinese cuisine is one of the oldest in the world. I admire the emperors who used to organise dinners with over than 100 dishes per meal. The Chinese cuisine is rich and the variety of meals is simply unique.
Go to this restaurant and feel the wonderful atmosphere of China.
A. S.
One of the best services I have ever got in a restaurant, Nikki was amazing as she explained parts of the menu and made a few recommendations.
Started with the Soft-Shelled Crab ,Chilli & shallots spiced batter, green mango - this was different, crispy and soft and that green mango was amazing.
Mains - Chicken Cashew Nuts, Corn-fed chicken, dried chillies, spring onions, cashew nuts, seaweed, dark soya sauce. the nuts brought a different texture to this dish and the chicken was juicy, abit to many dry chills.
Soy & Honey Marinated Roast Lamb ,Lighty spiced with red chillies, shallots, garlic and coriander, root vegetable ‘chip’, Nanyang
cucumber & carrot ‘achar’ pickle - Lamb was like a loaf of meat and went perfect with achar.
Egg Noodles with Shallots & Olive Oil & Spice-Scented Fried Rice
Chilli
‘Chocolate Does Grow on Trees - THE STAR DISH
This is a chocolate fondant with the macaroons, hazelnut, praline , chestnut paste combination was mouth watering.
So much going on in one dish.
A must go in London.
Thank you for a great evening
M. S.
Service at Kai is a bit tardy, but the food makes up for it! The roast duck was like none I've had before in London, the wasabi prawns had just the right amount of wasabi and the slow-cooked Egg with black truffle was cooked to perfection. The highlight of our meal though was "cài with 3 chillies" - a vegetarian(!) main our waiter recommended - triple fried tofu that was just out of this world.
Eating at Kai is likely to dent your wallet quite a bit - but it's well worth it. Very upmarket, very sophisticated and well deserving of it's Michelin star. The one thing this place lacks is a decent cocktail list - but the wine list is a-OK.
G. P.
Went with a few friends, highly recommended for a business dinner or treating your loved ones. Chef Alex Chow's menu is truly inspirational - taking Chinese food to the next level by combining modern ingredients. The wasabi prawns are a must have and if you feel indulgent the Wagyu beef is truly amazing - very juicy, tender and just the right combination of flavours to melt in your mouth. Dishes such as Lamb with Szechuan Peppercorn were nice and definitely very creative. Soft shell crab was also good but I think Hutong's is slightly better (IMO).
Kai has an extensive wine and cocktail list which is handy if you have many people to please. Deserts were also great the ‘Peranakan’ mango cake was amazing and one fellow diner enjoyed the six shades of chocolate. Service was discreet and prompt, cannot fault the manageress or host, everything was smooth without being too overbearing and all requests were managed carefully. Not your everyday Chinese but truly one of the top contenders if not The Best Chinese restaurant in the UK fully deserving of its Michellin star status.
R. C.
The best food in London. Their garlic prawns are great! Save room for desert hands down the coolest menu I’ve seen yet.
a. p.
Had afternoon tea and it was one of the best I have ever had.
Must go
M. S.
Nothing wrong with the place. Impeccable food, service, and atmosphere. I just prefer places that aren’t trying so hard to be extravagant.
R. T.
Food was great, there were vegan options. However, the staff were quite rude!
S. S.
First time here, the wasabi prawns were out of this world, highly recommended definitely have two portions. Seafood options are a must. Missed out on the duck... Next time and dessert... Great options
R. A.
Excellent food, service, everything! Great place to be, great vegetarian options as well which is rare in a restaurant like this. Wasabi prawns are a must have, the crispy duck was just perfect.
W. S.
It was very very good, but short of other Michelin-starred restaurants in London.
T. S.
Well presented if somewhat pricy, modern interpretation of a Chinese restaurant
D. n.
Lovely restaurant in Mayfair. However I found the food under whelming. The food in my opinion isn't of the level of a 1 Michelin Star.
M. L.
In my opinion, best Chinese restaurant in London. Food is taken to another dimension, that's not what can be easily find in Asian restaurants. An absolute fine dinning experience.
F. Q.
Birthday treat - Food is of good quality.
J. K.
Delicious food! More pricey then your average Chinese restaurant but worth every penny. I particularly enjoyed the pork belly
A. C.
I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. Most importantly I really enjoyed the food so I’ve given four stars. Would I return? Probably not. Staff cold and inattentive.
C. B.
The Salt-toasted Pork Ribs are great here! My whole office loves them for lunch and we always order at least two. I also like to get their baby bokchoy or kang kong steamed with garlic I'm not sure if that's on the menu though.. Oh and the soft shell crab is pretty good as well.Nice one guys!
A. A.
Been here a few times and love the afternoon tea especially the little bird decorations 🥳 had dinner a few times and love this place and would highly recommend.
L. M.
Went here for my birthday and I absolutely loved my time at Kai Mayfair.
The standout dishes were the Wasabi prawns, and the Roasted Chilean Seabass which I absolutely recommend to everyone! The prawns were juicy, and the accompanying wasabi mayonnaise was delightfully creamy . The Seabass was incredibly tangy and addictive.
Kai Mayfair is definitely a place worth considering next time you want to treat yourself!
h. h.
An amazing place for a special dinner or occasion. The food was just sensational I couldn't believe it. The staff were friendly and kind and I had a fab time ! definitely recommend it!
A. Z.
Excellent afternoon tea with a difference. This was truly great experience and our family enjoyed Chinese whispers afternoon tea.Staff is very attentive and food and tea quality were very high.
T. K.
dining at kai mayfair was ultimately a delight. we were seated at a table beside the beautiful salt water aquarium, but promptly asked to be relocated to a less desirable table downstairs when a table of cigar-smoking regulars took the table next to us. it's rare to find fine dining establishments, even in london, where cigar smoking is not discouraged. our meal was tasty and the service outstanding, but we had no intention of making second-hand cigar smoke our first course!
V. S.
A genuinely unique experience. Thoroughly enjoyed the food.
k. b.
had such amazing time in this restaurant, the staff is very kind and polite, the food is amazing the dessert i really loved i have not doubt is the best chinese restaurant in london, very sophisticated place
M. P.
Excellent food with exceptional service. We also received a little surprise from the restaurant for our anniversary, which was really lovely of them!
J. P.
A little disappointed with this place. Food wasnt exceptional despite the price tag and service towards the end of the night was terrible even though we had the private dining room. Wont be returning in a hurry
M. K.
Good food but Small portions & staff weren't best on advice
B. N.
Had a 2 course diner ! Choose the high recommended gamba wasabi .... it was good but not fabulous ! Also had a meat course as main. Also good but not outstanding. Very quick served. Overpriced a bit
L. B.
Lovely service and great food, we were not rushed out following our meal and relaxed so well with a drink. Friendly and nice atmosphere, will return again.
L. M.
One of our favourite restaurants. So good to return after lockdown. wonderful food, staff and service.

R. T.
Lovely place food was amazing a bit pricey, but well worth it. The service was very good.
C. R.
Not what it used to be. Food was fine, service okay, seemed like we annoyed them with our presence. Many empty tables which never used to be.
R. S.
It was good experience. Although I am vegetarian, still I got good options in starters and main course. For me, dessert was the winner 👌👌
T. B.
one star michelin chinese restaurant very high price but with chinese infusion dishes, i love their handmade tofu are very soft and taste much better than from china town but the price was way too high, ordered £57 duck but the potion is like less than half duck on the plate, wonder where is my duck gone????
r. a. k.
Great food always
Service was a bit slow
But the food made up for the service .....
T. M. L.
Tried The Chinese Whispers Afternoon Tea. 5 star for taste, variety, portion, service and decoration
M. I.
I have been there more than four times but last time I noticed Peking duck was not as good as used to be. They are to have new desserts

Best top-end Chinese/ Asian fusion restaurant in Europe.

Amazing food. Good prices. I have spent more money at restaurants that are not in Mayfair and are not Michelin Star. The prawn toasts and soy & honey lamb were the best dishes we ordered. Alcohol is a bit pricey but 50ml shots so it’s understandable. Beautiful restaurant and toilet facilities. Great ambience and decor. Our table was downstairs but I preferred it! Very secluded and romantic. I recommend!!!

(Translated) Have the best high-value afternoon tea in the UK, not just good-looking
Desserts will not be very sweet. Other high-value afternoon teas can only be checked once.
Will come here again!

(Translated) The best Chinese restaurant in London from my point of view .. competes with the Chinese restaurant in the Shard Tower .. The restaurant is small and needs advance reservation .. The quality and quantity of food is very excellent .. The spices are consistent with the quantity of food .. Its price is somewhat high compared to other restaurants .. The staff Friendly and helpful .. I will definitely visit again

(Translated) Fusion Chinese with a sense of luxury. It was delicious, but the service tended to be (?) And it was expensive. It may be convenient to have a private room.

高級感溢れるフュージョン中華。美味しかったけど、サービスがちと(?)なのと、高い。個室があるのは、便利かも。

(Translated) An interesting Chinese restaurant, the menu of which also offers Japanese cuisine at Mayfair in London, not far from the former, maybe not the former American embassy, which was dismantled)))). The restaurant has two floors, of which minus the first more secluded places, although not far from the toilet room, which is also minus the first. From the kitchen, the menu presents Pushkin cuisine in all its diversity, by the way we were at the beginning of February, but still, several New Year's dishes were also presented in the menu in combination with the Peking duck. In general, the restaurant is very diverse and tasty, the only thing to keep in mind is that the kitchen closes at 15.00 for lunch until evening))))
