Reviews of Kaki
B. F.
Food was extremely salty, not sure if I am just not used to the flavours and that's just what it's meant to taste like or if it was indeed too salty but I couldn't manage to eat it. The homemade dumplings were great!
S. W.
Amazing place! Very Authentic Sichuan cuisine. Good portion, suit for a group of people gathering and sharing more dishes. Outdoor sitting is terrific, you will have the view of the canal.
The place also has a cute friendly cat, so adorable.
Will definitely go back and try more!
W.
Very good Sichuan food with outdoor terrace. Lovely to see sunset! Definitely order the lotus pot!
S. M.
Kaki had great Chinese dishes and enjoyed the Chinese culinary experience. Tried the sweet and sour fish, black bean chicken and sizzling lamb ribs.
T. B.
The food was really good, don't bother with dessert (we had custard bans), it was really impossible to eat it.
Make sure you order the hot and sour soup and the salt and pepper squid. OMG it was so good. Can't wait to go again!
R. A.
Came here tonight for a last minute meal after work, and I AM SO GLAD WE DID.
Hands down the best Chinese food I have had to date. The portion sizes are huge! We all had leftovers to take home! The quality and freshness of every thing we ate was top notch.
We ordered a range of things, from simple stir fried broccoli (amazing!), egg fried rice, vegan dishes with tofu, aubergine and potatoes... and oh MY the potatoes, were next level. They were like roast potatoes in this sweet sauce, I am in love! I ordered the chicken dry pot and it was DELICIOUS! Perfect level of spiciness, with lovely green chillies.
I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be back ❤️
R. S.
The food are so authentic and super delish! I loved their fish dishes! Careful with the chilli and pepper though! It’s for saucing, not for eating! My other favourite menu is the Salt & Pepper crispy tofu! We had beef and chicken in chilli oil as well. They’re are all also good. This place is best for dinner with bigger group (more than 3 people), so you can order several different food and share it with your group. The place is always busy for dinner, so better to come before 6pm to avoid long queues, or call before come. If you like Szechuan food, Kaki London is the must try London!
G. S.
A fabulous local gem. Excellent hot mouthwatering chicken. Absolutely excellent execution. Even a banal hot and sour soup was superbly done. Their smacked cucumber salad was right on point, better than in other Szechuan places. Egg fried rice was also perfect. Come and enjoy.

The food oh my gosh is AMAZING
Great portion sizes and decent selection
Good prices too
The service is not as good as the food but overall the food is so good that this didn’t matter
S. K.
-We went when only outdoor seating was allowed, so sat in their outside space overlooking the canal which was really nice.
-The venue itself looks inviting with neon sign decor, and the food was really delicious with generous portions. Will go again.
-Only gave it a 4 as the service could have been a bit better, but maybe our waiter was having an off day.

Having been to so many Chinese restaurants in London, I still wanna say, KAKI is the best one. The food here is amazing, staff are nice, friendly all the time. I will recommend KAKI to all of my friends for sure.
R.
Nice Chinese restaurant - very authentic flavours and very interesting combinations - the dessert steam buns were really nice but the custard inside was dry which made them very dry but still cute
D.
Really great meal, genuinely well prepared Sichuan food (spoiler alert - very spicy). Balcony seat with very nice view along recent canal. Serves some very nice Kraft beer. Also dog friendly on the upper terrace. Good prices too!
M. B.
Awesome Szechuan place - so happy I found it. Originally wanted to see how their mala xiang guo compared to other places but we decided to get the (apparently popular) Szechuan roasted sea bass with glass noodles. This comes with some other things not listed - potato slices (classic), bean sprouts, brocolli etc. We also got the dry fried green beans with pickled kale which was so delicious that I am clamouring to get back to eat it again so I force feed it to my other friends!! Steamed rice portions are generous. Really interested in finally trying their mala xiang guo and the other fun items on the menu when I next get the chance. The price also isn't outrageous so a major plus!!

If you like Sichuan you are going to love this place. It's up there with Barshu and Sichuan Folk.
Arrived at 8pm and waited 20 minutes to be seated but it was so worth it. We ordered softshell crab (£18), spicy Sichuan chicken, beef in chilli's, smacked cucumber and aubergine clay pot. Couldn't tell you what the best dish was because they were all outstanding and full of numbing peppercorns.
Personally loved the aubergine but it was incredibly sweet, so might not be to everyone's taste.
All this plus a beer each for £71. If you're into Sichuan, this place is a must!
H. S.
Great meal and worth the money! Probably the best Chinese Sichuan restaurant now in town. Forget about Chinatown! All the dishes are super delicious but the Spicy Rabbit was definitely the winner of the night!
S. R.
Good place to have some Chinese food. The people who serve the dishes are quite nice. The place is vibrant.
S. R.
The variety of dishes is fab and we ordered rabbit (a traditional Szechuan dish). It was alright - it is nice to be able to have missed food from hometown although some rabbit meat still had the strong odor. However, I am slight annoyed by the service - when we paid the bill, the waiter asked us how’s the meal been and although my friends was being polite saying everything’s brilliant, I pointed out the odor of the rabbit meat. The waiter looked at me in contempt as if I was some sort of picky customers while all I wanted was to give genuine feedback. Why bother asking if you are not interested to know what you could improve?
C. H.
Lovely food !!!
Was there celebrating my friends birthday!
The staff is so nice and polite, and the drinks very nice!!!
Will definitely go again and also highly recommended the dry pot and the fish!
V. P.
Order the gong bao- spicy full of flavour. Delicious. Good and polite service. I loved it. Thank you
J. G.
Delicious and authentic szechwan food in a lively bright restaurant by the canal. The green beans with pork were DELICIOUS and I'll be back for more. A little on the pricey side, however it's leaps and bounds better than any other similar casual places in London.
林.
The restaurant has a very wild selected menu to cover almost everyone's interest. The food is tasted but the portion is small. Price is reasonable given the location.
F. M.
I usually find Chinese restaurants hit and miss in London but this one was definitely a hit. The menu is huge and a bit daunting so I think we played it safe with our order but ultimately the food was great. We had some veg dumplings to start. Then we shared 3 treasures which is a veg dish of aubergine, potato and green peppers in a delicious sauce and it was lovely. a chicken fried noodles (slightly thin and crispy noodles) and a beef dish. All of the food was cooked well and we really enjoyed it.
The style of cooking is Szechuan, so don't expect your typical egg fried rice and pancakes (although these are also on the menu!)
Y. C.
Interior design with morden touch, friendly service. Regional Chinese cuisine.
Dessert menu : the sweet potato toffee taste great !!
L. F.
Amazing food!!! Service was okay, but what they lack in hospitality they make up for in tasty food.
S.
Nice dishes, despite that soup is quite salty. SERVICE IS COLD...Certainly recommend squirrel fish and all the spicy food!
Y. F.
One of the best Sichuan restaurants in London, strongly recommended. The food is authentic and the service is warm and friendly.
R. E.
Enjoyed the food very much. It’s great to have an authentic Chinese cuisine this far out from Chinatown.
S. C.
We had a late dinner here on a weeknight. The place was not too busy The food was great and I particularly enjoyed the beef dry pot!
J. 9.
Waouh!! Amazing experience. The best chinese restaurant in London. The food is incredible, the staff is very welcoming and warm and the terasse is beautiful. I will definitively come back!
J. K.
Flavour bursting satisfaction. Great authentic Chinese restaurant. Very different from restaurants in China Town. You are for a taste treat.
R. N.
The best tea and desert in London. Friendly staff, and best service ❤ Great experience
C. H.
Superb and interesting menu with plenty of unusual regional Chinese dishes. The large hot pots are gorgeous steaming bowls to share and the szechuan crispy chicken, squid with baby leeks and fish-fragrant aubergines were amongst the best I have had in London. Excellent, friendly service and very reasonable prices make this an unbeatable place for Chinese food.
R. W.
Really authentic Chinese food! Tasty and rich variety style of cooking😋
P.
If you want to try authentic Chinese, this is the place in KX. Loved the dumplings and the recommended fish.
E.
Service can be more attentive but otherwise the ambiance and food are great! It’s different from the portions in China town (smaller) but more delicate.
K. C.
Really good, authentic Chinese food with quick service and the food comes hot! Would definitely recommend
Y. L.
Great little gem with an outdoor terrace overlooking the canal. Great Sichuan food + a few dishes from other regions and they do a proper dry mala pot. Definitely worth a try! They are also participating in the eat out help out scheme so def go and support them!
A. K.
REALLY DELICIOUS FOOD!!! BEST CHINESE FOODN IN LONDON, BY FAR!!!
I went there with two friends, we each had a dish and shared it, it was perfectly spicy and the dumplings were incredible and for the first time in London, in a good amount!!! definitely a must try. but be careful, could be addictive!
K. N.
Delicious affordable Chinese dishes, mostly spicy food. Good wine list.
A. H.
Delicious meal in a lovely venue. We had the cumin beef stir fry and seafood hotpot and I recommend both, flavourful and not overly oily. Friendly and fast service but didn’t feel rushed. Left with happy full stomachs and it didn’t break the bank. We will be back.
B. L.
Great Si Chuhan, if you are the one looking for good spicy appetiting cuisine, it's the place to be around N1! The restaurant has a great authentic Chinese atmosphere. If the soft shell crab was a little bit fresher, it would have been perfect!
M. Q.
Better than the places I tried in Chinatown and also a lot cheaper. Dumplings are great. French beans with minced pork a must and the sweet buns are great too. Really large selection of fresh dishes and friendly staff. Will be back for sure!
J. M.
I got the boiled pork in chili oil for main, with a side of rice, and the 3 flavours mochi ice cream for dessert. Reasonably priced, the food came out very quickly after ordering & it was all delicious. The chili pork was not as hot as I would have expected, but it had a great flavour & the pork was succulent and cooked perfectly; very authentic Szechuan cuisine. I appreciated that the staff chatted to me after my meal, asking me if I enjoyed it. They said they can always add more heat to a dish, so just let them know how you like it. The mochi ice cream had great Asian flavours - green tea, sesame & vanilla - and the mochi to ice cream ratio was perfect. Would definitely recommend and eat here again.
m. G.
Lovely staff, relaxing terrace by the canal.
genuine Chinese food to numb and stimulate your taste buds. if you don't know what to order just follow the popular dishes they can be trusted
M. F.
The food was fresh and amazing. Had lotus flower, fish, king prawns and rica, spring rolls. The scallop could have been a bit more soft but still ots was nice. We went there about 5 so it was not busy at all. If you go the after 6 its gonna be busy. Good thing is you dont wait for a table cause food comes quick and everything is quick. Toilets clean. Waiters are cool. Nice atmosphere.
S. M.
Delicious and authentic Chinese food, have been coming here since it opened. The staff are very friendly, the service is quick and the restaurant decorated in a quirky modern style. However it is the food that is the greatest highlight! The portions are very large and bursting with flavours, I try to order something new every time and have yet to be disappointed
Kaki 😍
l.
This was on the hit list for some time & with only a few restaurants open given Covid, we decided to give it a try on a Tues night since there were available tables.
4 of us had the pork belly, pork dumplings, hot & sour soup, duck pancakes, stir fried beef, & claypot chicken. Food was *ok*. Nothing particularly special given the price, but hit the spot since we wanted to dine in & not cook that evening.
Can't say anything really stood out - though the dumplings were ok.
A. B.
If your taste in Chinese food tends towards the cuisine of Hunan and Szechuan, then this is the spot for you! Spicy frogs’ legs, snails and sea bass are three examples from a delicious menu and the portions invariably require take-away boxes for the left-overs! A reasonably-priced wine list and friendly service, in rustic surroundings, or on the Regent’s Canalside terrace, round off a splendid addition to the King’s Cross eating scene!
M. B.
I have ordered some 三vegetables which included aubergine (all I remember regarding their name) and my date had ordered some beef. We both were very satisfied with the food. Atmosphere was not romantic by any means, staff also seemed to be hurried which resulted in a quick service. Payment seemed to be rushed and it made me confused for a while what I have exactly paid for as we were splitting the bill, what would make this experience better is more communication between customers and the staff. Overall satisfied.
V. K.
Great food! It has a combination of authentic mainland Chinese dishes for every taste. Sichuan chicken is great and if you like spicy dishes try their signature rabit, pumpkin chips are also a great idea. I will be definitely coming back.
A. S.
Awesome food, and great ambience, loved the food
C. G.
The restaurant is amazing! It is the most authentic + reasonable price one I’ve tried in London so far. It’s mainland dish (not Cantonese), I love it! It also have chuaners! I will definitely come back again.
Service: 5/5
Taste: 5/5
Environment: 5/5
S. B.
overall a bit dissapointed. I thought the chicken satay was overcooked, my companion agreed with me. I found the kung po king prawn and king prawn fried rice dishes quite salty and the service quite slow even though they were not busy. Maybe I chose the wrong dishes or went on a bad day having reviewed the restaurant before attending its not what I expected.
J. H.
came here for a tasty dinner recently. food and service were good, as too was the atmosphere. the menu is extensive and has certain gnarly dishes (probably not for everyone) that you don't really see elsewhere.
Highlights for me were the shredded potato, the morning glory, also the seabass. Will come back.
P. L.
I really enjoyed the meal here. The place was not very crowded. Compares very well with other szechuan in London. Especially enjoyed the chilli fried chicken and dry fried beans. Will be back to sample more of the menu.
We were able to pay with credit card.
J. C.
Was a bit aprehensive beforehand, the menu has a lot of unusual items. But I have to say the food was great. There was a large group of us, but the staff were great, very attentive and brought all the food out together. Food was really tasty.
N. H.
Tasty selection of well priced Szechuan style cuisine. Kung po prawns, whole roasted sea bass, and simple dishes such as broccoli with garlic were very tasty. Unfortunately it was really very cold in the restaurant. Most of the group we were with were wearing coats and scarves and were still chilly. This made the decor and the feel of the restaurant a bit stark.
L. G.
The food from this Restaurant is Fantastic and l mean Fantastic. As we walked in we noticed there were a lot of Chinese and Asian people eating here so that told me it was going to be good l just didn't know how good it was going to be. Really Fantastic food.
R. B.
Fantastic and not the normal Western style Chinese food. Service was friendly and welcoming. Although not cheap, good value for money in my opinion.
Can't wait to go back to try some of their other dishes.
P. D.
Great food, good portion sizes. A few really nice vegan options
T. S.
So good. Don't be a wimp, get the whole sea bass. Mapo Tofu is a must too while you're at it. And the dumplings. Might as well get the green beans, their damn good. Oh and the crispy chicken with chilies necessary.
What are you waiting for, just go already!
D. S.
Yes! Really tasty and authentic. I have been praying for a place like this to open in north London. I thought the Kung Pao chicken was a bit sweet for my taste but the dry fried cauliflower was amazing as was the sour shredded potato and the Sichuan boiled beef. Friendly service. I want to go back again tomorrow. And then again next week.
A. A.
Liked! Nice place and food! Love trying new things. Very recommended
T. C.
the szechuan dishes were flavorful and the non spicy foods were really good and authentic. i will also say that they were very hospitable with a minor snafu (oil from a sizzling plate sprayed all over a friend's clothing so beware!).
K.
Great food and a chilled vibe!
We stumbled upon Kaki as we're hungrily walking to Kings Cross station and are so glad we found it. Our food was delicious, stsff were kind and the place has a perfect shabby chic interior with cool exposed brick walls. Would 100% go back!
M. M.
Heard a lot of good things about Kaki and thankfully it does live up to the hype.
There are a lot of really good dishes on the menu with it tilting more towards Sichuan but also has a slight nod towards the Shanghai region plus a few dubious “local customer favourites” ...
Some great cold starters like tripe in chili oil and mouthwatering chicken. Tried a variety of mains but the fried rabbit and sea-bass in chili oil rocked. There are a lot more dishes i want to try.
V. R.
Delicious food. Highly recommend this place that popped up loacally. I’ll be going there regularly.
We ordered dumplings, Kung po chicken, egg fried rice and quarter crispy duck and everything was really good!
Good portions and reasonably priced! Helpful staff!
M. D.
Large portions (enough for 2 people) and they let take the left overs home. The food is really tasty notable items were the tofu strips and egg fried rice
M. M.
There are great restaurants in London but there are few authentic ones. Kaki is a great authentic restaurant ! The food here brings you back to China if you ever been there. I’ve lived in China for years and since I was back to Europe I’ve been looking for a Chinese restaurant where the food is the same as it would be in a Beijing restaurant. Kaki is that place!!! Amazing Sichuan and Hunan food, cooked as it would be in China! Great place! Please keep up with the great food !!!
M. T.
Chive pocket (韭菜盒子, £3.8) was thick and more full of vermicelli than anything else, which was not my thing. Stir fried kangkong (通心菜, £9.8) suggested by server was tasty and fortunately not greasy, which is good, but I would have paid maybe £8 for it max.
D. M.
Food is delicious! I encourage family style orders as the best way to go, that way you can mix traditional favourites with the new and intriguing. You won't be disappointed.
J. H.
You simply must try Kaki if you're a fan of authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine. My partner and I even showed our waiter a picture of a dish we had in Shanghai back in April and they made it fresh for us. Wonderful wonderful place that we will be frequenting a lot! Our favourite dishes were the fish aubergine, lamb skewers and smack cucumber with garlic (a must-have to partner the spicy sichuan flavours).
K. L.
Vibrant flavours. Delicious combinations. Topped off with brilliant welcoming and charming, Joyce! What a star. She recommended us a few dishes and they were all winners. Go Joyce!
T. P.
Food is ok,
Only two people service whole restaurant.
J. C.
Always good. Just eat here you won't regret a single bite.
M. J.
The food at Kaki can be hot hot hot- its real and authentic Chinese. I shared the chilli sea bass, a couple of vegan friends shared a spicy numbing stir fry pot. If you like delicious fresh and hot East Asian food then you'll love Kaki. We'll be back for sure.
I. L.
authentic Chinese ! Love the foods.
Those who are looking for typical British style Chinese, better go to China town because the foods is too authentic. I rated 4 star because of the restaurant service.
K. H.
Friendly service! Food was delicious. A tad pricey but worth it for the experience to dine on the canal. Really cool atmosphere.
m. L.
Average food, a bit expensive, very busy during dinner
A. H.
Just the best :) delicious authentic Sichuan food, so many options, super lovely staff and if the weathers good - a view over the canal !!! I love this place.
A. M. W.
Very good food and friendly staff
D. M.
Big dishes, pretty good prices, I've definitely had better Sichuan in London, but this wasn't bad. A solid meal should set you back about £20
R. R. B.
A nice and real deal Chinese food restaurant.
J. Z.
Absolutely delicious every time. Would recommend the lotus dry pot and the egg battered sweet potatoes as well as the mince meat green beans
A. L.
Get the sweet and sour fish. That thing is deboned, deep fried and drenched with a tomato-based sauce for that sweet, tangy and crunchy goodness.
E. B.
Nice view when seated outside. Food very oily and salty . Staff very polite. Clean establishment .
J. L.
Sichuan food here is legit. Generous servings and the dry hot pot is numbing deliciousness.
D. C. J.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. I took 50 people for a Xmas Dinner, and we had a fantastic time - we will definitely go again!
R. A.
Big portions, tasty food, quick service, tongue went numb. Try the dry mala! Nice atmosphere
Y. K.
- Dry hot pot: worst, bit smelly, taste plain.
- chicken with nuts & beef & bean was tasty 😋
- lotus roots: didn’t like it due to coriander 😖
P. T. F.
Excellent Sichuan food
S. A.
Nice atmosphere. Stuff is quite friendly. Prices are decent. Food come in big portions. Some veg options.
R. G.
Amazing food! Highly recommend the mapu tofu and aubergine in fish sauce - you won't regret it!
F. F.
Delicious, subtle, spicy, Chinese food. Been here 4 times and rate it highly.
W. F.
Wow!! This place is wonderful...so spicey and sooooooooo delicious! Absolutely L O V E D the dry pot spicy beef. Absolutely will go again....can't stop thinking about that dry pot mmmmmmmmm
D. L.
I came to Kaki with a group for our Christmas dinner. The food was amazing, the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. I'll be recommending it.
O. D.
Not great, rabbit dish had more bone than meat and was very expensive
T. L.
Ultimate Southern Chinese comfort food, a taste of my home back in Hunan, China. 吃在口中,暖在心頭
D. A.
Great authentic Chinese food for reasonable prices! There are lots of different dishes to choose from!
F. F.
You can't beat this place for location. If you can, ask for the terasse with the view on the canal.

Great and authentic schezchuan food. Slow to get seated but service super quick after that.

(Translated) The best Sichuanese cuisine I've had in London.
I've been in the UK for the past 7 years and have over time developed a taste for Sichuanese food (in part thanks to long cold winters). I usually have a few go to places in London but checked this place out as I happened to be in the area. The food ordered (see below) was absolutely amazing-strong intense flavours but also with the right amount of balance. Prices were also very reasonable and slightly cheaper than Chinatown. Would definitely recommend if you are into Sichuanese food.
Total price: Approx £44
1 x Chilli fried crispy chicken
1 x Hot & Spicy Dry Pot Pig's Intestines
1 x Hot & Sour Soup
2 x White rice
1 x Kirin Draught Beer
Super delicious taste, especially recommended! The Sichuan restaurants I frequent in Chinatown really can’t compare.

超好吃的味道,特别推荐!我在唐人街经常光顾的川菜餐厅真的比不上。

(Translated) I came to study with my daughter and lived in the center of London. I had been eating in Chinatown before the city was closed. I ate many Sichuan dishes and found the taste to be average. I came here after a friend’s recommendation. Although the boss said that the chef is a northerner, the Sichuan food tastes here. It's really good. There are Huaiyang cuisine here. As a Jiangsu native, I am very appreciative of the lion head here. I would like to make a small suggestion. It would be better if it can be lighter.

(Translated) Went there again, but the grilled fish became smaller ... the side dishes were much less and the taste was still very good
—————————————————————
I think grilled fish is very delicious! It was also very good to order the fragrant pot fat sausage, that is, the dry pot only had fat sausage, no other dishes ... The boss also added some rice for free, thank you very much! Will go and try other dishes hahahaha

(Translated) I heard a friend recommend it. The taste is good. The chef is willing to put the ingredients, but you can really not put so many peppers. The restaurant environment is very different from other Chinese restaurants.

听朋友推荐来的,味道不错,厨师很舍得放料,但花椒真的可以不用放那么多,餐厅环境和其他中餐馆很不一样,美女老板嘴超甜,还会再来捧场。

(Translated) I ordered the set meal, which included a double-cooked pork and spicy chicken and egg fried rice. The pork used for the twice-cooked pork is very hard and thick. It feels like it has been cooked and frozen. The taste is poor. The spicy chicken tastes good. The color of the dish is black. Dumplings and squirrel fish. The dumpling stuffing is delicious but the outer skin is very strange. There will be raw parts. The price of squirrel fish is 30. I thought it would be very good, but the boiled beef is not good. The dishes and taste are good. Overall, it’s not very recommended. Many people said it was very good. But the only ones I ordered were boiled beef which was not bad

(Translated) Not a bad chinese restaurant. It is necessary to approach the choice of dishes carefully, we ordered pork, as a result of it there was a whole mountain of spices, which remained on the plate. In general, a cozy place, but the second time I would not go here.

Не плохой китайский ресторан. К выбору блюд надо подходить аккуратно, мы заказали свинину, по итогу в ней была целая гора специй, которая так и осталась на тарелке. В целом уютное заведение, но второй раз я бы сюда не пошёл.

(Translated) The taste is superb and the service attitude is very good. Not only one of the best Chinese restaurants in London, but also known as the whole of the UK. I feel that I have made this restaurant very hard, and I highly recommend it. People around me must let them try this restaurant when they come to London in the future. Hope to do better and better. 👍👍👍

(Translated) The dishes are authentic and slightly optimized. It tastes great. The portion of the dishes is a bit too large, similar to the domestic ones. One person ordered the eggplant pot and the fat intestines, each with half left. unfortunately. I was lucky enough to meet a goddess like Zhang Ailing. I will try my best to come here every time I come to London. I'm talking about persimmons.
