Reviews of Kasa and Kin
R. G.
Authentic Filipino flavour with a modern European twist. Elevating the Filipino cuisine to new heights and to a new generation.
The service is impeccable. The staff are polite and friendly.
Their desserts are to die for.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We will definitely go back.
One minor critique, the portions could be better.

My boyfriend and I found this place on IG when planning our itinerary for our trip to London. Neither of us had ever tried Filipino food but we were very intrigued both by the food and restaurant location. Everything was delicious! These were the only pictures I managed to get because we were so busy enjoying everything. We had a variety of skewers and grilled vegetables, great drinks, and last but DEFINITELY not least the cheesecake was *chefs kiss* to die for!
Can’t wait to come back when we return to the UK 😊

I really liked this place! The first thing I want to say is I'm not from the Philippines so I'm not sure if it is authentic or not BUT, personally, I found the food delicious. When I was looking at the reviews I wasn't too confident in this place but after eating I feel like I would definitely come again! (See bottom for price)
First I'm going to start with the negatives and why I gave it 4/5 stars and not 5/5.
The portion sizes were very small for a family or a party more than two really. Most of the food we got was either on 2 small skewers or 3 individual items. Luckily I came with one other person so the portions were just right for us. Also I'm not so sure how authentic/Filipino the food was too.
Now that that's over I would like to talk about the positives! The staff were extremely attentive and kind. We were asked if we had allergies twice, which personally I found very reassuring, and were always attended to when needed.
The food was delicious. We had the chilli chicken fresh rice spring rolls, beef rib eye tapa, smoked aubergine and the BBQ pork belly and jasmine rice. I will start with the negatives. The jasmine rice was overcooked 'squishy' and that was my least favourite part of the meal. Everything else despite this though, was great. My personal favourite was the BBQ pork belly but all dishes were delicious. The spring rolls were a great starter dish and they were cold, refreshing and pleasing to the mouth. The beef was soft and tasty, the smoked aubergine was soft in the middle and had a nice state and the BBQ pork had an explosion if flavours in my mouth. As I said at the beginning I am not Filipino and I wasn't sure if it tasted particularly Asian (not sure if this is how Filipino food is supposed to taste) but I would agree with other reviewers, that it doesn't taste authentic (but let us not forget how good the food is here).
Finally we finished with dessert. We had the ube tsunami cheesecake and the calamansi tart. I'll start with my least favourite. The calamansi tart was very tasty and had just the right balance if sour to sweet ratio. The texture was nice and smooth and I really liked it.
Now to the ube tsunami cheesecake... Personally I LOVED this desert. As I first- time-ube-tryer I really liked this dessert. It had the right sweetness and was extremely moorish. Despite this is was quite heavy and, in my opinion, would be enough for two people.
In conclusion I would really recommend this place and would stop off here for a dessert but do remember to book because the first time u tried to come here, the restaurant said I had to book, though it was empty.
Very delicious food and I would visit again.
This came to £52.25 but with the 12.50% service charge, it came to a total of £58.78.
Pictures included:
BBQ pork belly
Beef rib eye
Calamansi tart
Ube tsunami cheesecake
Chilli chicken rice spring rolls
Complimentary Bread

Very happy I finally got to try Kasa and Kin's bakery! A good selection to choose from when I got there and it did not disappoint. A wide range of tempting baked goods and interesting flavours. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was very relaxing and cosy.
I will go back next time and try other things for sure
D. A.
Servings were not that great and the flavours of the dishes are not like your typical Filipino dish.
Pinoy Robata Grill had 2 sticks per serving. Dips and sauces are add ons.
Big thanks to the staff for giving my son a cake and a candle to celebrate his birthday.
Place was quiet for dinner service amd staff were great!
If you would come here with expectations of tasting the usual Filipino dishes, in my opinion you would be disappointed.
BUT, if you would come here with a palate for tasting I would say "it would be okay" as you would get that familiar taste but with a twist.

First Review (updated review further below)
Should have told them I was a Top 10% Google Community Reviewer (Top 1% before the pandemic), perhaps Kara and Kin would have offered me a table today.
Since many businesses in this area, particular those in the food/restaurant industry don't last very long, seeing this new restaurant opened recently, I was really looking forward to add this to my reviews. Unfortunately, I was not able to have a meal here today as at 12:30pm, the maitre d asked if I have booked. Seeing that the it was still relatively early on a Saturday afternoon and that the restaurant was only around 30 percent full, my immediate response was "no I haven't, do we need to?".
"Yes, I am sorry we are fully booked, would you like to take a card for next time?"
If I was more more cheeky and bold I would have said it's empty or can I sit outside (outside tables were totally unoccupied), but as I was with my daughter I didn't want to create a scene. So I took the card, thank the maitre d and went on our way.
We ended up going at Franco Manca down the road on Berwick Street for a quick bite (btw, this is top place for pizzas, go there!). During my our meal at Franco's, I said to my daughter that Kara and Kin should have provided a better service or at least offered us the option to seat outside, and also no way they would be fully booked? Anyway we decided to go back after our meal (about an hour later) to see if they were indeed full. Lo and behold, still around 40 percent empty inside and 100 percent empty outside. Very disappointed with the poor customer service. I can only offer 1 star for now. I am not bias so will book next time and give unbiased review.
Updated Review based on visit 15-01-2022
Updated to 5 Stars
Since being so disappointed with my initial attempted visit above. I decided to give the restaurant another go. Having learnt a lesson for not making a reservation the first time. I have made a reservation on the morning for a table for 2 (lunch hour). The reservation process was easily done via Kara and Kin's website (link to sevenrooms.com for the reservation - login required).
During the visit maitre'd was very tentative and enquired whether we had any allergies and led us to our reserved table. The waitress, who served us was equally polite and tentative and also enquired whether we had any allergies at before taking any orders. Overall, I have to say that the service received was first class. All the staff were friendly and tentative without being 'in-your-face'. And the food was simply amazing. Very well present and all had delicious flavours.
I am not Filipino, so I can't comment whether the dishes were authentic Filipino food or not. But, in terms of flavours, I can't really fault it.
For some people, the dishes could appear a bit small. Most of the dishes we ordered came in around 2-3 skewers or portions, but they are all very elegantly presented.
For dessert, we ordered Ube (Tsunami) Cheesecake, visually stunning (see video) and easily one of the best cheesecake I have ever eaten. Oh, forgot to mentioned that there were also complementary bread and butter at the start.
Looking forward to our next visit. An Easy 5 Stars.

Kasa and Kin by Romulo is a contemporary Filipino restaurant in the heart of Soho! Apart from the restaurant, they also have a bakery & patisserie. We came for the bbq but fell in love with the Ube Tsunami Cheesecake! The ube martini we had were also really good!

Love the concept of this restaurant first of all. The colors depict the warmth and joy of Filipino cuisine and the fun and modern feel of a Soho casual dining and drinking place. The staff were very attentive and made sure we were being served properly. Why a 4 you might ask? As a newly-opened restaurant, I think they still have a few things to improve. First and foremost the food, both the serving size and the taste could do with more improvements. Don't get me wrong, there were a few notable dishes like chorizo de Cebu, the baby squid, and the pork BBQ. I think though in their attempt to elevate and modernize the food, it has lost some of the essential Filipino flavours. While this may have been an intentional attempt, I think the soul of Filipino cooking was lost in the process. For example, the bulalo was a let down - the very thin slices of beef did not help bring out the flavour of the beef broth which is core to the bulalo taste - I didn't get why it also had rice noodles (maybe an attempt to liken it to Vietnamese Pho). Or the chili chicken rice paper spring roll - it was neither here nor there in terms of flavour - the sauce albeit visually encouraging, didn't really come through and complement the spring roll. Their interpretation of Iskrambol was really well executed from both the visual appeal and the overall taste. Overall, I thought it was in the right direction. Will I go back? Probably yes. Will I recommend this to friends? Why not. It is a refreshing option on that side of Soho, a good introduction to Filipino cuisine but probably not something you would go to if you wanted to showcase Filipino cooking.

This is a Filipino cuisine but modified to cater for a wider audience. It reminds me of the same restaurant called RAPSA which is also located in London. The menu is limited and the portions are small. If you’re after a true Filipino Food culture experience, this is not for you. It is still
worth going if you’re after a different experience (maybe like a special occasion celebration). Service was very good and ambience was nice. Price was reasonable considering it is in
Central London. The food taste ok but it doesn’t give you the feeling that you’re back home in the Philippines. Will I go back again? Not in the near future.
D. R.
If you are looking for the closest taste to Filipino home cooked meals, you need to check this resto out. The ambience and food is like a taking a trip back home. Plus, we were served by Sam who is friendly and welcoming. ;)

My 2nd visit to Kasa and Kin within a few days. I love the vibe and decor of the restaurant. There is such a story and message behind the mural alone. You could overdose on culture and ambiance from the decor alone.
Competent and welcoming front of house team, they are really knowledgeable about the menu and are clearly very well trained.
I love the menu, well laid out and interesting. I do love the skewers all containing various culinarily delights. All the food I had on both occasions was tasty and lovingly prepared. What I particularly admire is that it’s abundantly clear that the owners have dedicated so much love and passion into their business and this is reflected throughout the restaurant and their sister restaurant, Romulo cafe. It’s very clear to me that they have put a lot of effort and dedication into upholding the family name and brand.
I super loved the cheesecake, as well as quite a show and spectacle when unwrapped, it tasted divine too. I had the one, the ube flavours were intense.
I do recommend paying a visit here, fantastic way of unwinding and relaxing after a hard day of shopping in Oxford street or maybe before attending a show in the theatreland. I believe this is something that Filipinos here in the UK can shout about and be proud of. Will definitely visit again!!!

Lovely traditional Filipino family restaurant / bakery / patisserie. We enjoyed the dulcé de léche & dark chocolate ( very sweet chocolate and caramel on pastry) and the coconut & peanut which was very sweet as well. It certainly gave us the sugar rush we were craving!! The cappuccinos were great too. We came at 16:00 , so the restaurant only opens at 17:30 for those who want to try the Filipino dishes . Located near Oxfords Circus and very clean with good service. Will recommend

From the owners of Kensington's Romulo Café & Restaurant- Kasa and Kin adds a vibrant and modern touch to traditional Philippine cuisine. My absolute favorites were the salmon and avocado starter, warming and hearty chicken soup (exactly what you want on a chilly autumn day) and fantastic cheesecake dessert (even when you think there is no more room for a dessert after dinner, trust me - this one will make you change your mind)
n. a.
Came here in the morning for the pandesals. I got the coconut ube and ube cream cheese. Tasted good and light, not too sweet. Definitely will be coming back in the future for their ube cheesecake.

Really loved this restaurant!
The food is delicious, the drinks are well made and the staff is very friendly.
I had the BBQ Pork Belly and Beef Rib Eye Tapas with some jasmin rice. Accompanied with a Calamantini cocktail which was delicious!
Definitely will go again to try out the rest of their menu :)

What an enjoyable experience! I'm a big fan of the Romulo Cafe Restaurant in Kensington. I'm so glad they have opened up closer to where I live! I can dine more often with them.
They have great vegan options and the portions are very filling. The flavour profiles that they bring to the ingredients are heart warming.
I can't wait to go back. Their prices are very reasonable and competitive for the Soho area and Carnaby Street shops.
I can't think of a more welcoming and professional staff. They made me feel at home.
Thank you!

Finally a new Filipino restaurant in Soho! Love the “inihaw” which means “grilled” in Filipino. Lovely service and will definitely come back!
N. S.
Had the “imbento” box for lunch and left really full! The serving is huge, they are quite generous with the jasmine rice which is I truly appreciated. I enjoyed the kare-kare and loved the Atchara! The servers were nice and the food arrived hot. Make sure to buy the bento if you’re hungry!
A. L.
Great food, friendly staff. Dinner was superb, enjoyed all of the grilled robata dishes, baby squid and chorizo was my favourite. Intrigued by the bakery section and will definitely pay another visit
A. M.
As a novice to Filipino food, this was a great introduction! The food was soooo delicious, quality and well cooked. The pork belly skewers was amazing. The Ube martini and cheesecake was like nothing I have ever tasted, so dreamy. The service was warm and inviting from start to finish - I can't fault it in anyway. Me and my friend had a lovely time and will definitely be back!
A. N.
The grills were delicious especially the lemongrass chicken! The place is meant for quick bites as the servings are like tapas sizes not really meant for hungry group of customers. The cheesecakes were heavenly! We had the ube and mango cheesecakes and both were amazing!
R.
Loved it! Between two of us, we had 3 meat dishes, 1 veg, and garlic rice. Perfect amount and tasted delicious! Staff were very attentive and always topping up water. Will be back again
J. E.
Every single dish we ordered turned out really good! I would recommend the pork bbq, baby squid goes well with the calamansi aoili dip! Lovely staff and cosy place. Don’t forget the ube cheesecake for extra drama.
K. S.
What a wonderful place for dinner. We stopped off with little time to spare as we were going to the theatre. The staff were delightful, attentive and so friendly, they served us really quickly because we were in a rush. The food was absolutely delicious. We had starters, skewers and a dip- all gorgeous- especially the salmon and the beef. We will definitely be back!

I was looking for a Filipino resaurant for my boyfriend and I to dine in. Most Filipino restaurants are probably in Earl's Court so this was the most convenient for us as our hotel was in Soho.
The staff were very friendly and accomodated us to a 5PM dinner despite their kitchen opening at 5:30 PM.
All the food we ordered was delicious from the appetiser to the dessert. We loved the pandesal. I was happy the staff told us they were served tapas-style so I knew what to expect such as the portion sizes.
The ambiance was very nice too. I liked the intimate setting and the gorgeous orange walls reminded me of sunsets in the Philippines.
The resto was a bit on the pricey side but worth it. 4.5 out of 5.
A. G.
Fusion Filipino. Hits the spot. Very Soho prices. Everything was fairly good and tasty. I can recommend the ceviche and the robata skewers. But, you'll need extra rice. Order the large soup because it's not enough. It's a new place, hopefully it stays.
T. D.
My server was Malike 10/10 service, food was quality & the attention to detail was appreciated.. would recommend but if your like me order alot if your hungry 😋
R. B.
The restaurant was beyond wonderful and it was the best place to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It gave us the sensation as if we were living in the Philippines! The food was delicious, therefore, we truly recommend to everyone who hasn’t visited his place yet.
We ordered many varieties of food and we finished ALL of them. We left no leftover!
The service was very welcoming and we want to give the best compliments to Qais, Sam and his colleagues! They made us feel like home.
My daughter has recorded our brilliant experience for her TikTok account.

Ideal location to try casual Filipino food. Imbento box a great way to sample different flavours.
E. N.
The restaurant is amazing. The food is delicious. This was the first time I tried Filipino cuisine and I am impressed. I recommend trying UBE CHEESECAKE.
N. S. C.
Don't leave without trying the spiced duck skewers and the purple yam cheesecake. We had a great meal, service wss very good too. Will be back!
J. F.
Absolutely fantastic! Usually to get amazing Filipino food you’d need to travel to at least Earl’s Court but now you can find it in central! I’d highly recommend the bualo beef broth and the pork belly sticks. Definitely worth a visit.
R. N.
The restaurant and staff are very nice. Some of the dishes were bland they lacked seasoning and flavour. The tsunami cheesecake was very good and perhaps its saving grace.
c.
Tasty, small portion at a reasonable price. Liked the shrimp rice paper roll, BBQ Pork belly with fried noodles and morning glory.

I was looking forward to eating in this restaurant. The Tinola of stone of my favourite dishes. That was the only dish I was mainly interested in. Got confused with the menu cos it was meant to be a Filipino menu but I saw Robata and all sorts of descriptions I wasn’t expecting. The Tinola was super super disappointing. It had a couple of slices of bland chicken peices swimming in a clear brownish liquid broth which tasted just totally of fish sauce. The portion was also super tiny. I lost interest in the other food by this time. The robata dishes were ok. The aubergine salad was very disappointing too. A slice of dry aubergine on top of some lettuces with a dash of another fish sauce dressing. Totally off putting. My friend who ordered the jackfruit soup didn’t eat it. I think they added the fish sauce after cooking which made it worse. Fish sauce should be cooked to blend with the flavour. We informed the staff that we didn’t like the Tinola just as a matter of feedback but we were not impressed with the reaction from the manager. She basically just said “That’s fine, we will take it off your bill”. That wasn’t our intention, we just want them to take that on board and perhaps improve the taste next time.

New Filipino restaurant in soho a must try. Delicious bbq food. Will definitely come back again!

Great tasty food to share with the table and lots of vegetarian options! There was an excellent atmosphere in the restaurant and super friendly staff. The ube cheesecake and layer cake were phenomenal!
E. M.
I've been several times to get take away from the bakery. Yesterday at around 525pm we were hoping to have coffee and cake. They said all their table are booked for 6pm and 730pm and despite the fact that ALL the tables are empty they declined to sit two of us. Other establishments would have accommodated a walk in customers but with agreement that the table will be vacated before 6pm.
B. M.
Foods, cocktails and atmosphere was superb and above my expectation. Definitely a must go place to visit if you are in Soho area.
