Reviews of Kibou Japanese Kitchen & Bar
R. O.
Superb Japanese restaurant! Karage chicken is always a knock out for me but we got two plates because it was that good! Plus a Karage chicken Bao Bun. Spicy Tuna and avo sushi Cali roll 👌
Service was really attentive, as it was surprisingly busy on Tuesday night, so hats off for the hard work. Authentic experience and great buzz about the place.
L. B.
Fantastic experience at Kibou London. We tried Sticks and Sushi earlier in the trip but the food, atmosphere and relaxed, friendly vibes make Kibou London the clear winner. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were knowledgeable and delightful. Sashimi and sushi so fresh. Dumplings the best we’ve tasted. Incredible value for money. Highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back.
J. C.
Great atmosphere and friendly services. The food itself tasted fine but not what we were looking for in Japanese cuisine. Sashimi was more like a slice rather than the normal thickness. We did enjoy our drinks and was happy with its extensive menu.
H. S.
Very good food(fantastic katsu curry) with a pleasant atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and nice.
J. H.
Great selection of vegan options - we ordered 6 different plates and shared everything. The plates are small so would recommend ordering more than you think you need.
Aubergine dish and the mushroom bao bun were the stand outs for us.
As there were plenty of vegan options we could happily go again soon and try new things
W. M.
Incredible menu, interiors and service. Highly recommend the soft shell crab bao buns.

Delicious food! Every single bite was a celebration in my mouth. All the crockery and cocktail glases makes everything taste and look even better.
Lovely attentive team who suggested perfectly what to choose for our dinner. Will be coming back shortly :)

Ramen here is great. Its always busy now which is great for them bad for us, I tried calling their line last week and they never pick it up. Service inside was fast and food was very yummy.

Honestly every time that I went there with friends and family, has always been the nicest place ever
Excellent food, amazing environment and the staff are friendly and very welcoming no exceptions!!!!
T. S. B.
Great service, sushi was well presented and fresh. Nice range of cocktails also, when we next go back we will try the ramen. They also had a vegan menu with many options.

Had a birthday meal here and was great to be given some Prosecco on the house! We really enjoyed the starters such as the chicken karage and prawn tempura. The Spider roll with soft shell crab was ok though not much crab and wasn’t too sure about the Volcano roll that was deep fried - the rice sort of turned a little mushy. Will try other dishes next time.

It was very busy on the Friday evening that we went, with a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. It is tucked away a little, which is nice as it feels more akin to Wandsworth than Clapham Junction. It's neither the cheapest nor the priciest place locally, however, we generally thought that it was good value for money, given the quality and quantity of the meals, speed, friendly service and general ambience. The chicken wings and octopus that we had to start were both super tasty and plentiful in size, as were and our mains (donburi with pork belly and teriyaki chicken). We also ordered a duck filled bao bun to share which was cooked to perfection, though not quite as good value for money (£8.50) as the other things that we ate. Draft lager and excellent cocktails too; couldn't fault the overall experience and will likely go again!

Amazing food, great service.
Staff are very attentive and food always on point! Delicious. Prices are good.
The atmosphere is great also.
I would recommend Kibou to anyone.
5/5 stars

A really great Japanese place with delicious food and friendly staff! A tad on the expensive side but well worth a visit.
A. A.
Food was delicious and waiters were very kind. Great atmosphere and decorations lovely too.

Absolutely amazing, hands down the best Japanese restaurant in London! Tons of options on the menu, gorgeous decor and super friendly staff. Highly recommend :)
E. R.
Meh. Decent but felt a bit like a factory bashing out food. Also the manageress setup her laptop on the table next to us at 9:30 on a Saturday night and started working. Felt like we were eating in her office.
S. P.
Very good restaurant. Even though the overall experience was not as authentic Japanese as I would like it to be, all the dishes were executed well. We had wagyu, the sukiyaki with beef and the monkfish. As desert we got the yuzu cheesecake. Only the cheesecake was somewhat inferior to expectations. All the rest have been very pleasant experiences. The monkfish was my favourite though. The desert was just ok.
The service, the ambience and the decoration have been very satisfactory.
This is a nice place and I would definitely eat there again.
H. T.
I had the chicken katsu curry and it was amazing! Went the following weekend and had volcano sushi OMG!!! Sooo tasty!! Thanks
T. L.
Food was fantastic, drinks too, service was good if not amazing. Don't expect any authentic Japanese feel though as it is not that kind of place - western pop music, totally non-Japanese serving staff (no Irashaimase! welcome), bit like a Brit's version of what another Brit would want from a Japanese restaurant.
All in all - nice place for a long lunch or dinner, I'd recommend it, but avoid it if you're looking for a more authentic Japanese experience or a chance to practice your Nihon-go.

Excellent food. Best Japanese restaurant in Battersea/Clapham. Good portion sizes. The pork gyoza was maybe overcooked? but still a top choice
C.
Okay, totally blew away my expectations. Given how long Kibou has been operational and how hard it is to find great Japanese food in London, I went in expecting this to be a at max 3-4* place.
Nope, solid 5*. I tried the volcano roll and char siu ramen - so so good. The ramen was thick and moreish, the noodles perfectly chewly, delicious meat and soft boiled egg. The char siu was cooked perfectly.
For kids they have bento boxes with are perfectly balanced.
I highly recommend.
L. P.
Amazing vegan selection of food, very well informed, friendly attentive staff. Will definitely be bringing friends and family here!
X. C.
We had ramen and the noodles was cooked badly (all stuck together) and the soup was quite tasteless. Informed the manager and they sent another fresh bowl, but the soup was mit much improved.
For the price paid I expected much better quality.
A. B.
Cannot fault it! Fantastic food, friendly staff, speedy service and loads of great gluten free options. Will 100% be returning
L. J.
Very delicious food and relaxing atmosphere! Furthermore, the staff made us feel really special!
Thanks to the lovely Dominika and also, Elena!
We had perfect time!
L. S.
Great place! Pet friendly and the food is fenomenal…
A. M.
4*only because never been inside and I will go as soon possible it's looking lovely, I'm in love with the outside decoration. Its perfect place for a night date 😉 family lunch, dinner , friends reunion , birthday party just perfect with very classy environment and decorations.👋✅👌
S. N.
Lovely people and lovely food. Sushi was good, hot side bits we're delicious. Great drinks menu. Atmosphere spot on.
Yes, there is better in Tokyo, but I've paid more and enjoyed less in Soho.
T. B.
A local favourite for dining in and takeout. Price reasonable. Nice buzz.
H. S.
My husband and I are big fans of Kibou and visit often, but we were left a little disappointed by our last visit. We had been singing the restaurant's praises to our family so wanted to bring them along to experience it for themselves. We wanted to order the pumpkin croquettes which are a favourite of ours, but were told they were unavailable, so tried to order gyoza instead, but these were also unavailable. While the staff were friendly, the main courses took a long time to come out and when they did they all came at different times such that some people had finished before others had even got their food. The food itself was nice and pricing is reasonable, so no complaints in that regard, but I think my family came away wondering what all the fuss was about.
S. R.
Really good sushi. Big menu. Could use a lunch fixed menu and maybe a selection of non alcoholic drinks Nice atmosphere terrific staff. Maybe stick with low key music during the day when people are there to chat over lunch but the staff very obligingly changed the music and even turned it down when asked. Recommended.
S. C.
Absolutely amazing food, seemed very authentic, lovely atmosphere and great art work on the walls, only knocked off a star as it seemed like as it was towards end of the evening we were missed a it and wasn't offered desert menu, however do understand it was very busy!! But couldn't fault it otherwise so its definitely deserves 5 stars despite it
L. C.
Amazing restaurant, I've been already 3 times and will come back everything is delicious

What a welcomed addition to the Northcote Road. I have just returned to London and have been checking about the neighbourhood and stumbled across Kibou. We couldn't wait to try it and we weren't disappointed. We hadn't realised it had only been open a few weeks because everything ran smoothly and the service was efficient. The star of the show though is the food. We had the mixed sushi platter and the chicken yakitori. The portions were generous, especially the starter, but then again we are not big eaters. The cocktails were yummy and we had a lovely chat to one of chefs. On a beautiful warm summer evening sitting outside - you really couldn't have asked for a better experience.
E. S.
Sushi, BEST EVER. Ramen, not so good. If you want a sushi treat definitely give this place a go. AMAZING
K. S.
Exquisitely fresh and excellent sushi. It may be December, but we wrapped up warm and sat outside under some beautiful flowers, next to a heat lamp and it was the most romantic little spot for date night. Service was excellent and the tuna sharing platter is a must!
L. W.
Decent food. Highly recommend the Agedashi tofu and chicken karaage here.
I. L.
Great service, great food!! Shanice served us 10/10
N.
Fantastic! It's great to finally find quality sushi in London. I've not yet had the opportunity to eat in, but have used their click and collect services. Look forward to having the chance when lockdown finally ends.
s.
Being there twice since they opened outside, the sushi was excellent .All the staff are very attentive and the manager always find a nice sunny spot for us.The cocktails are amazing too.It is the best place to eat on Northcote road ,away from the crowd at the weekends!
N. M.
Excellent menu, helpful staff and I would definitely recommend it..
l. k.
Thank u and welcome Kibou, you have complemented Northcote Road very well. The food is exceptional, fresh, and so delicious - real melt in the mouth. Service by all of the wonderful staff is exceptional, there is a bar serving the finest of cocktails!!! well done for smashing it and coming through this pandemic and putting the smile back onto Northcote Road xxx
A. B.
Great service. Delicious food. Nice atmosphere though music a bit loud. Definitely recommend
J. M.
Great treat. Lovely food and good service. We were a party of 6 and everyone loved it. Just a bit pricey.
P. S.
We arrived slightly late for our reservation, and everyone looked after us very well. Food was excellent (ramen, sashimi and veggie tempura) all fresh and quickly served. Bill was very reasonable.
Bathrooms were very clean and would recommend to all who love food!
S. G.
A great new addition to the Northcote Road. The food was exquisite, some of the freshest sushi's I've had in a while ! The cocktails were excellent and the staff all very friendly. Definitely a go too for anyone looking for a quirky and elegant little bar and restaurant.
D. R.
Kibou is a beautiful little restaurant / bar and the staff are stunning. The manager of the bar is wonderful, very chatty and knowledgeable. The bar is gorgeous serving all sort of Japanese inspired cocktails and whiskys. The sushi is delicious and I will definitely be returning.
J. T.
Had such a good meal here last night with amazing Japanese food. The grilled eel nigiri, scallop sashimi and spider roll futomaki were particular highlights. Great staff and atmosphere. Will be back to try the Ramen soon!
H. C.
Great vibe, friendly staff, 100% recommended.
It was my first time at Kibou but it definitely won’t be my last! A huge thank you to our amazing waitress Shanece, who gave us endless recommendations and a first class service. The food is out of this world, and the cocktails are amazing, unique and well thought about that they match perfectly alongside the menu.
I would 100% recommend kibou In Clapham and I cannot wait to revisit myself.
Friendly staff, yummy food and tasty cocktails what more could you want.
G.
Great food, friendly, professional service. Thank you!!!
M. V.
Nice place but food wasnt worth the hefty price
J. D.
This beyond hopes and expecations Northcote Road Japanese powerhouse draws an eclectic, mostly local crowd with knowledgeable, professional servers providing spectacular fresh sushi specialties in a lovely mid-sized, food-love cave mixing up sexy, delicious cocktails. The scene is bustling, crowded, dimly lit yet alluring, especially if for a destination date night. Move over Nobu, you finally have competition.

Another great meal at Kibou. Food was so good we ordered a second round of the sushi. Sashimi and sake were delicious. Thanks to Aumen and all the team for looking after us all so well.
K. W.
Excellent. The food is amazing and delicious and the staff are all extremely welcoming and efficient. Definitely visit
A.
Nice place and lovely food but recently the quality started slipping away...
J. B.
Delicious vegan options, and stunning interior design.
l. h.
Visited Kibou at the weekend for some drinks. All of the staff and manager, James was extremely welcoming and friendly, what a host. Really impressed with the quality of service! Such a great atmosphere will definitely be back. xx
J. N.
What a little gem of a place! Was walking up Northcote Road and popped in as I saw they serve drinks. The decor is stunning and the staff so friendly, particularly the Bar Manager who was very chatty and welcoming. Can't wait to revisit and try the food!
B. K.
There's a lack of good Japanese restaurants in this area of Clapham Junction / Wandsworth Common. So I've been anticipating the opening of Kibou for a while!
Due to COVID, they've opened as a takeaway, click and collect only place. When I went to collect, I did have a sneak peak at the restaurant, and it does look luxurious, a bit high end. Good for celebrations, a romantic meal, or a classy meal.
Food-wise, we both had a Don to takeaway, and takoyaki balls to share. The food was good. High quality ingredients - the unagi and the pork belly were excellent, and the rice, salad, and sauce went perfectly together.
The only gripe I have is the slightly expensive pricing, for what is a restaurant in the suburbs and not central London. £18 for an unagi don bowl, and £14 for a butadon bowl is slightly on the pricey side. I think if the prices were about 20% cheaper, it would be more in line with what I would be expecting. Hence the 4 stars out of 5 for this review.

This is our go to local Japanese Restaurant here in Clapham especially for take aways during these lock down days. Delicious sushi and baos. However, it closes before 7pm on Saturday evening which does not help for weekend orders. :(
D. O.
The food was really good and great portions. The menu has a lot of choices. Great experience
J. D.
Reliably good quality Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price. Good service and a nice atmosphere.
An excellent bar too and they serve Japanese gin!
P. H.
Great cocktails but not the best Japanese I've had.

B. F.
The food was really tasty, the atmosphere was great and the staff were friendly. A great place to go for some odd the best Japanese food in the area.

Great place for a lively family dinner
E. C.
Great atmosphere but the mains were quite salty and a little underwhelming. I was ready for this to be my new fave restaurant but sadly it was a little disappointing.
V. F.
The best sushi, very fresh and full of taste. Volcano roll is actually to die for.
G. T.
Excellent food, great decoration. Only the coffee could be better.
A. B.
Great menu, friendly staff, super cool decor. Pity prices are a bit on the expensive side, hence the 4 and not 5 stars
