Reviews of Maxwell's Bar & Grill
J. O.
My girlfriend recommended this restaurant to me so thought I would give it a try, and after my dining experience here, it is clear to see why she suggested it.
The location is fantastic, located in Covent Garden, one of the most beautiful and historic places in London. The restaurant was very easy to find and from the outside it looked stunning.
My girlfriend and I were looking at the menu outside when we were greeted by this voice, which took us by surprise, only to find it was a host from the restaurant who was saying how they had great burgers. We then asked him if we could start our booked meal slightly earlier than the time we had booked for, to which he said was not a problem, so we were taken inside. It looked lovely inside, it boasted style and class, just like the area in which Maxwell's is located.
We were shown to our table straight away, unfortunately my request to have a candle lit table for whatever reason was not possible, which was a shame as it was Valentines Day so it would have given it that more romantic touch.
We then received our food and drinks that we ordered in a reasonably quick time. I ordered the halloumi sticks to start, and my goodness...I don't even have any words for how heavenly they were. I have had halloumi sticks in many different restaurants, but out all of the ones I have ever had, they were my favourite. The Buffalo Mayo sauce (I think) that was drizzled on top...wow!
My main was the mac n' cheese, whilst my girlfriend ordered a burger. My mac n' cheese was absolutely phenomenal, it was very tasty and the crispy onion on top just gave it more flavour and that crunchy element. My girlfriend was very happy with her burger and fries too. We were considering ordering a dessert, but we just had no room left!
Our server was friendly, polite and smiley and provided us with excellent customer service. He went the extra mile and he played a part in making mine and my girlfriends valentines date that little bit more special, therefore we gave him a tip.
Only downside to the whole experience was what I mentioned above with not being able to have a candlelit table. They did however have lots of red heart balloons dotted around the restaurant so that was a nice touch.
If you want a reasonably priced, delicious meal, then I would highly recommend choosing Maxwells. A truly amazing dining experience and definitely a restaurant that I would go back to again.

After visiting a nearby exhibition at Covent Garden we decided to step in here for Cocktails. We sat at the bar and really felt like we could be in the States - just needed a TV showing CNN to finish off the vibe!
The cocktails were good value and punchy.
Whilst there we checked out the food menu and decided to return later for dinner.
Very busy in the evening but a table was found none the less. Our waiter was very good, perhaps a little too over the top at times, like he was trying too hard for a tip!! Just needed to dial it back a few notches.
We chose to share Fajitas - we chose the chicken and blackened steak, minus the prawns than normally come with it. I have to say it was seriously good!!! So tasty!
I don’t think I’ve had better and that’s saying something as we make it at home pretty good!!
It’s actually reasonably priced too, especially compared to a lot of other venues in the area.
I’d definitely go back.

Me and my girls found this lovely place while walking in Covent Garden. We sat outside as we didn't book in advance, thank God we stayed. The food was amazing🥘 and so was the cocktails 🍸 Most of all we had an amazing, fun and friendly guys serving us all evening. Christopher C thank you for making our experience in Maxwell a moment to remember. God bless and we come and visit soon. X

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting maxwell's bar and grill for the first time. The food was amazing and the music had a good mix. I even tried one of there non alcoholic cocktails. I'll definitely visit again.

After a disaster at Stixn'sushi we found Maxwell's where we were seated quickly, served us attentively and was an overall brilliant experience. This is a bar n' grill with a pulse. Love the cool decor and the food was amazing. A+ to the excellent server Andrei B. He was exceptionally great at his job and made our evening!

Came here for lunch.
Food quantity was plenty, and Quality was good too.
Staff were nice and helpful.
We must admit, it was a bit pricey for what it is. We paid 75£ for 3 people with 3 mains, 2 drinks and 1 starter.
J. M.
My favourite Burger and Shakes place in London! Adrian and Leonel were fantastic waiters and made my birthday on the 26th of February feel spectacular - thank you Maxwells! 10/10

We visited here on the weekend after attending a theatre show nearby. I called them as I was running late and they were understandable and held my table for me. Food and drink choices were really good and all came really quickly once ordering considering the restaurant was busy as it was a Saturday evening. It was my boyfriends birthday so they done something special, they all sung him happy birthday while bringing him out a brownie dessert with a candle in. We were able to stay 2 hours with our table which was good and had a really good evening here.

Really querky place, loved the vibes. Burgers were top notch, I had the bbq one and it was very tasty. The pictures attached are the freak shakes ask about them when you go in, they do different ones weekly or daily I cannot remember but they were unreal! Reasonably priced aswell, we had 2 freak shakes and 2 mains came to £40 which is great for the location. Staff were very friendly and food came out very quickly and hot.
J. G.
Fantastic bar restaurant. Great decor. Top food. Delicious cocktails. Excellent value for money with Monday Madness. Brilliant staff. We were well looked after by Dennis.
M. H.
Had a great lunch here on Monday 24 January. I discovered that Maxwell's do "Monday Madness". This means that all main courses have up to 50% off. So, for example I only paid £8.87 for a New York burger and my wife paid £8.87 for an Oxford Blue burger. These burgers would normally be around £16 each - and well worth it! The burgers are served with fries or salad. Excellent desserts including milk shakes are available.

Credit first to the lovely Waiters; Leo and Adrian. My friends were visiting from Mallorca with their 2 young kids . We were walk-in and very lucky to get a table of 6 at peak times . From the off-set Leo was very considerate and even asked a rowdier table to be mindful of young children- the guys were no trouble at all . Equally spaced out service of starters; main and naughty deserts meant a lovely catch up with my friends and fun afternoon for the children . Post pandemic it was a very memorable catch up and much needed back to some normality - due to the staff . Thank you again
J. G.
so glad I came back here, last time it was known as Old Joe's.
great place with fantastic food and atmosphere.
looking forward to the next trip.
J. B.
Adrian served us and was lovely, great place to go before seeing the lion king!
G. F.
The food is always good and today's service by Adrian R. was outstanding!! He dealt with us in an excellent and friendly manner and we witnessed his reaction to some difficult costumers, professional calm and collected. Go Adrian R!! Excellent costumer service and social skills
P. K.
The food and service were both fantastic. A great venue with an impressive bar. The menu had a great selection accompanied by a wide range of cocktails.
I would have happily given this. 5/5 however it really ruins my experience when the “optional” service charge isn’t optional at all and is presented to me on the card reader. It should be the customers decision whether to pay the service fee or not.
On this occasion I would have happily paid it voluntarily, however having this decision taken away from me left a sour taste in my mouth after such a fantastic meal and pleasant experience.
A real shame as I would have happily recommended this place if this wasn’t the case
J.
My girlfriend & I stopped in here for lunch before heading home after a night away. We were served by Adrian R. who was incredibly friendly and had us chuckling away. Service with a smile goes a long way. The food was immense and there wasn't much waiting around, despite getting very busy. Highly recommend.
J. C.
Great experience albeit it a quick one!
Stopped here for a quick bite to eat before going to the theatre, waitress was more than helpful and ideal for gluten free and/or vegan.
Very nice atmosphere, great playlist and enjoyable food and cocktails!
G. B.
You know the table service is good when they make a few errors in the kitchen but the service makes up for it. Viva for a plant burger that tastes like a meat burgee too.
All of our dishes were very tasty, alas we were too full for dessert.
A star docked since it was a little uncomfortable upstairs, where the aircon was quite cold.
We would happily return.
A.
Very impressed. Good quality food & presented well. What stood out the most was the staff, they were very friendly. Particularly the gentleman who served us who I'm presuming was Italian.
t.
This place is definitely worth coming for the atmosphere and vibe and defo for the 90s-00s music! Very good drinks (worth coming even for a drinks night at their bar) and good food (been here twice- had the classic burger and the salmon and was really happy with the portion size and the taste. Good prices considering location.
R. L.
Great food and atmosphere, had the ribs and wings. Big portions and well worth the money. Very good friendly service too. Read some negative reviews, but always experience things for yourself. Will definitely visit again.
M. P.
Good vibes, good times! Had an unreal time at Madness Mondays at Maxwells, food come quick and was arguably the best steak I've ever eaten, staff were lovely and knowledgeable, could not recommend more! Would rate higher if I could and will be returning very soon!
A. A.
Amazing service from Leo & Adrian throughout . Overseas Friends visiting with their 2 young children/ its hard to book at peak time central london on a Saturday so we tried our luck at a walk in- the host was very lovely . This place came highly recommended and I can see why . Our food - nachos burgers steak and sundaes came out evenly- spaced intervals and we enjoyed our catchup . I think one of our waiters informed a louder table of boys to be mindful of young children which added to the relaxed atmosphere as the table were no trouble at all . Thank you for a fabulous reunion in our beloved london with international waiters like it used to be !
A. P.
This place was really lovely. Chilled atmosphere, nice layout of the restaurant. We enjoyed the food, decent potion size. Good cocktails. Definitely recommend this
M. A.
Amazing staff , they welcomed us and managed to get us a table specially that I was with mom , the food tastes really good
M. V.
Really nice restaurant. Great food, excellent portion sizes and great atmosphere. Our waiter was great, the only complaint would be that our drinks were a bit slow to get to us.
K. V.
The cocktails were great, the starters were brilliant and the mains were good. The service was also great. My only criticism is that the menu stated burgers would be cooked medium. All 4 burgers we orders were well done, bordering on overcooked.
T. D.
Lovely service..outside great for people watching...really nice cocktails..and reasonably priced...only had a snack but the wings were gorgeous
B. C.
Food is always amazing and staff are very friendly. However can feel like they want you out as quick as possible when bringing out next course before clearing the table
B. M.
Good menu, good location, our server was nice. The side dishes/sauce didn't arrive with our meal and had to request was this was done instantly and wasn't our server. Would go back again.
K. H.
we had Adrian R serving us tonight and honestly best service i have ever experienced, he was so bubbly and warming. made the whole dining in experience even better!! drinks and food was also absolutely amazing. highly recommend here!! will 100% be coming back!! cannot say enough good things about Adrian R and the restaurant its self!

First time visiting Maxwells bar and Grill.
Had my friend Birthday.
The service we recieved from Zoe A was amazing!.She made us feel wellcome and recommended food because I wasn't sure what to choose.
Her service excellent. She is extremely knowledgeable and polite. Can't wait to return back.
C. B.
Consistently good ever since it used to be Navajo Joe's! Nice early dinner with a friend on Halloween, so booking was a good idea. Staff were really friendly and got into the spirit, food was lovely and service was great! See you again soon!
K. J.
What a great atmosphere......great food.....and great service. Thank you, we will return
S. S.
Was really looking forward to this night as its our wedding anniversary on Halloween. Booked way in advance, table was ready , friendly staff but waited ages for starters that were tiny & I dont eat much. Then only 1 set of cutlery between 2 , no napkins asked for ketchup that never arrived. I know it was busy thank god for good cocktails.
D. C.
We booked this for a Friday evening and it was certainly busy and lively. Good burgers and diner food. Managed to swap my fries for sweet potato fries for a small fee. Cocktails in happy hour (between 5 and 7) were well made and went down a bomb. Definitely a place to come again!
A. B.
Amazing food and drinks. The best ever cocktails from Kye and Steve. Excellent job! Keep it up :)
Highly recommend
J. D.
Nice atmosphere, amazing food and top service. Our waiter Leonel did everything he could to make our visit enjoyable. Cannot recommend highly enough.
F. S.
Really tasty, well priced food and excellent service from our waiter Leonel B - he was really friendly and couldn't have done more to make our evening great
J. D.
Great customer service. Nice atmosphere. Would return to try the food. Cocktails nice enough.
j. d.
Brilliant place!Staff were lovely and the food absolutely delicious!! It was decorated so beautifully and in the heart of covent garden, can't recommend enough..
M. R.
Really amazing restaurant. Got a unique look on the inside and very retro and American diner feel. The food was delicious and came rather quickly. We were placed on the balcony with some nice views. Staff seemed reasonably fine. Didn't understand why the coleslaw was apple as no hint of it. All in all a great place to eat.
А. К.
We had burgers and they were delicious. The deserts were also very good but mostly we liked the service and Adrian who took care of us. Very polite and always smiling he made us feel very comfortable.
D. H.
We had the cheesebomb burger, was really good. Adrian R was great, very polite and had a cheerful demeanor.
D. H.
Great food and atmosphere. Good value and our server Adrian R was excellent. Definitely be back
A. T.
Got the half rack of ribs and chicken. Food portions were very big so you'll definitely be full by the end of it. Had the Freakshake (milkshake) which had a mini slice of velvet cake on top, that's drink and dessert sorted. But milkshake was too thick to drink. Only let down is that the tap wasn't working in the girls toilet, hope it gets sorted.
V. D.
Been here a few times now and everytime the food has been on point. The burgers are packed with flavour and grill items have been up to standards. Cocktails are top class and are £5 each if it's happy hour, making them even more special.
One slight gripe I have with this place is actually the service and sneaky hidden charges. Twice now they've included service charge and full price cocktails even though it was happy hour. I usually do pay service charge, but almost every other place, the waiter warns us that our hill includes an optional service charge.
Overall highly recommended, definitely a good food and drink experience, just be vigilant of extra optional charges.

The burger was ok but nothing special. However it is galling to say the least to pay that price to be dished frozen McDonalds chips on the side.
Well ok, London is pricier but at least the service is good? Well we ordered a jug of tap water and ketchup so go with our meal. It never did arrive.
Definitely won't be returning here again.

My mother & I came here this afternoon spur of the moment. The food was incredible (and so were the cocktails) but most of all the service was the best. Our waiter Adrian from Alicante was outstanding! Definitely recommend xx
R. B.
Went early on a Friday evening. Perhaps late afternoon would be a better time description. Service was fine, although we seem to have been covered by more than one waitress. Not an issue as such but unusual. Food was great, although the range was more limited than expected. Really nice shakes, although the banana in mine seem to be from a syrup rather than the fresh mashed/blended banana I had been hoping for. Drinks were good. We were left with a couple of bottles of water to dilute the alcohol - just as well since I enjoyed an "1 night in jail". Which I would recommend to the adventurous.
A. d. K.
Have been here before but always forget to take a photo!
The food is good and service is excellent! We’ve had the ribs, wings and pulled pork before. For this dinner, we ordered the vegan burger and ribs, with a side of coleslaw and sweet potato fries.
Starter ribs was good but I think the full rack is the better option as the sauce overpowers the ribs you get in a starter. The vegan burger, I am told, is one of the best ever to the point where it was questioned if it was meat...it is vegan!
Please like if you found this helpful.

We had a very nice evening in this restaurant. Burgers were tasty, the brownie was amazing and the staff is very welcoming and friendly! We will come back :)

Was served by Adrian R. He was amazing and such a friendly and welcoming waiter. Excellent service and amazing food.

Amazing place, situated centrally in Covent garden.. find this little gem and you wont be sorry... the place looks amazing soon as you walk thro the door. The staff are extremely friendly and engaging. The food is lovely and the portion sizes are really generous.. I had the sharing nachos with pulled pork to start and wow!!! They r amazing.. massive portion and so so tasty.. I had the chicken burger for mains and again great portion size and so tasty!!! Would so recommend this place.. you deserve to spoil yourself!!
K. N.
Vibe is very nice. Was there for a total of 3 hours, which is generally quite long. Waiter was very nice however didn’t attend as quick to order, and ask for the bill, which was why we were there for so long. Food very average.
Would I recommend? No. There are many other restaurants which are better within a 1 mile radius.
D. B.
The food was none less than amazing, with some of the best portion sizes I've seen in a while. They were more than happy to serve a spontaneous table of six without issue. The pricing is what you'd expect for the centre of London, but it's definitely worth it. 10/10.
N. L.
This place is pretty cool!! Threw a birthday party here on 4th July and they promised us to move some balloons from the other tables to ours... so I didn't buy any, but they didn't follow through. Otherwise they let me bring my own cake and were pretty good with a large group. Food was pretty good too!! If you want an authentic American style restaurant this is a great place to visit. Vibes are good :)

We were served by Natalie which was amazing! Very kind and friendly! She really made us have an amazing time ! Very happy with her serving ! The food was absolutely amazing !
Thank you Natalie 🥰
We will definitely come back !!!

Great food, great atmosphere and the cocktails are actually really nice! £5 happy hour drinks is bloody brilliant for central London and the staff make sure you have a fun time. Everyone is so polite and friendly from the moment you walk in, everyone is smiling and saying hi. Really makes you feel welcome! Would highly recommend.

What an awesome spot in London, absolutely awesome vibe and despite it not being on the menu you can still go ahead and order the cheesebomb! Which was truly truly awesome, well worth trying out. Also the long Island ice tea is most certainly worth trying out.

Great cocktails (made it in time for happy hour!) Service was excellent, the booking process was smooth and even got a courtesy call on the day to move us to an outside table which was much appreciated. Staff took great care with my food allergy too, and food was excellent - would recommend the prawns to start :)
A. K.
Super friendly nice place with great burgers
D. B.
I have been wanting to go here for ages and finally made it. Beautiful food, loved the 16 ounce steak and deep fried pickles.
C. T.
Alexandra (Italian) was fantastic and very friendly. Service was impeccable and I would recommend this place as she is willing to adapt to our needs. Dani was also fantastic to us and fantastic service.
M. B.
Maxwell's is a "must go to" restaurant in the heart of London. The staff were brilliant in their service and rapport. The food and atmosphere great. Well done Team Maxwell's.
L.
Wonderful atmosphere and staff. Very well presented and themed, along with extremely high standards of customer service and food presentation. Very good prices for being in Covent Garden, as well as being so nice.

Monday night happy hour cocktails and a delicious steak dinner with my darling wife. Excellent food
Excellent cocktails …

My favourite place to try freakshakes. This time, tried the chicken pot pie which was great because for me it had a pastry top and bottom. Filling was plentify and full of chunky chicken and vegetables. It was a complete meal. Minor recommendation would be it could do with a creamier mix.
Onion rings are forgettable and can be skipped. Not the worse, not great either.
The smores cookie pot was a delightful combo of unctuous melted marshmallows and chocolate cookie. Top tip is always share with someone or the sweetness might be overpowering towards the end.

Found this restaurant a while ago on Instagram and we wanted to visit it during our vacation in London. Food, service, cleanliness, toilets and location were brilliant. We came on a monday where they have the "Monday Madness" (up to 50% off all main courses) and ordered mac'n'cheese, burgers and pulled pork/ribs with sides and dips. It tasted great. After that we ordered some cocktails (it was happy hour) and they were - compared to the delicious food - pretty bad. We even wondered, if there was alcohol in it. I never had such a bad Mai Tai in my life. It just tasted like fermented pineapple juice. The Mojito was boring and the Long Island tasted like juice. When we got our bill there was the next shock - 11£ of service charge for a 76£ bill. So we actually had to pay 87£!!! That's why I give them 4*. (I would give 3,5* if it would be possible)
P. M.
Just enjoyed superlative customer service and ambiance at Maxwells Covent Garden. We give Salvadore 10/10 for his patient, attentive and thoughtful service. Highly recommended. We will be back again soon.
a. l.
Our favourite place to go in Covent Garden, it has moved to a smaller space around the corner from where it was originally, it still has the same warm feeling and friendly staff. We always sit at the bar for cocktails after we have eaten.
J. P.
Went for Xmas work party. Very friendly service, actually quite decent portions of food, food tasted alright (turkey a little dry, but good pigs in blankets).
R. F.
Here for a surprise birthday meal. Absolutely mouthwatering burgers and chips. Fun place with a great atmosphere.
J. C.
Went on a Thursday to enjoy the all you can eat pulled pork and half rack of ribs.
Pulled pork was enjoyable (could only manage two rounds) and the fries were decent.
My only issue was that there was WAAAAAAY too much bbq sauce on the ribs.
Starters were good but a tad pricey for what you get.
I. T.
A night to remember, my friends and I had a lovely time at Maxwells. The service, the staff and the atmosphere was very lively and unforgettable. Overall I would like to thank one staff member that made our night feel so special. Nico, made the most amazing cocktails I have ever had, lovely personality and friendly. If you want the best cocktails just ask him to make you one!
S. G.
Starters was better than the mains. We ordered the nachos, fried chicken bites and fried pickles which were all really good. Recommend the milkshakes- they are very filling. Ordered the chicken burger for mains which was ok. The bacon mayo sauce on the burger is strong.
G. L.
Good service in a busy restaurant, lively atmosphere, food was pretty good, price on par for Covent Garden.

Lovely bar in Covent garden we sat in the outside area and had a lovely cocktail
Happy hour until 5pm cocktails £6 each
Not bad considering where it is
Comfy seating
Food looked really good but we didn't eat
People were waiting for tables so popular place
Young blonde girl who was serving us worked really hard but still was very friendly
Would definitely recommend a visit if your in the area

Lovely place to eat, food and drinks are great. Staff very friendly, Dennis served us and he was brilliant.

Went here as part of a Virgin Experience Theatre package. Great food, good quick efficient service. Great start for the evening.
B. B.
Really nice staff. Amazing burgers and shakes. Great range of cocktails. Really nice decor and enjoyed seeing the bar staff making and doing tricks the drinks. Would recommend. Watch how much you spend (there was a 12.5% charge that went to the staff).
J.
Brilliant staff & great food. Music very good, will be going back again.
S. O.
Great staff, location and decor. Food not great...
The staff here are really friendly and service is great but I really didn't enjoy my food or cocktail - it wasn't particularly bad, it just wasn't particularly tasty. Raise the standard of the food and you've got a great spot!
S. P.
Food was great but what made the experience special was the hospitality from Adrian.
Friendly& attentive service all with a smile :)
U. E.
Unfortunately, the food wasn't that great. I had a breaded chicken dish for a starter and it was really dry which made it difficult to eat. My main of ribs and chicken was similar to that of Harvester which was disappointing as I expected better. I picked at it and didn't finish it. The only thing I finished was the chips, which were actually nice.
The best thing about the evening was the service. The lady attending our table was very warm and welcoming, even providing a yummy alternative drink mix in replacement of cherry Coke.
Overall a pleasant experience based solely on the friendly staff in spite of the subpar food.
T. D.
Good food with amazing service, both meals came within 10 or so minutes of ordering and tastes great for the price.
E. P.
Great atmosphere. Excellent food! We were spoilt for choice! Friendly and accommodating staff. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend. Thank you.

Amazing food, delicious cocktails, fast service

I've added pictures of the menu for reference. The food is amazing, great tasting burger. Definitely worth coming here for great tasting food. The drinks: I chose a thick shake, trust me thick doesn't it. It's hard to suck the drink up but it was tasty. Waiting times/waiters: It took them 15 minutes to find out I was ready. I looked at the menu outside so I knew what I wanted to order but I felt like I was ignored. I had to call them up to come to the table. Once the food arrived, the waiter asked if I wanted mayo. I said yes but it never came. I was really hungry so I tried to finish quickly and leave asap. Unlike other restaurants, There is a service charge which your not told when you enter the restaurant. Beware, it's 12.5%. I have posted the reciept to have a look. Since it's not a fixed price. The price increases depending on how much you order. Overall it was average.
S. S.
A very good burger but nothing out of the ordinary. When entering you are greeted by a bit of a stale smell and a general lack of air. Interesting, it seems more ventilated if you go further in.
We went for the New York burger which turned out to be very good. Although we weren't asked how we wanted it cooked and got a well done version.
The deserts are very sweet. Although I wouldn't recommend the ice-cream doughnut. The doughnut is a bit bland.
The staff are good and friendly. Chatty but not imposing.
The bathroom is clean.
Because the place is not overly large there is quite a lot of noise from kids and other customers.bon the plus side - it is kid friendly
E. D.
Amazing service wish we had found this place sooner
L. D.
Seems to have got smaller since I last visited 3 yrs ago.
They have moved in Covent Garden square but only round the corner.
Still great service and friendly staff, food was quick and very scrummy as well as happy hour on cocktails which were very well made and didn't seem like pre mixed ones.
Well worth a visit!
J. R.
Amazing burgers, cocktails and great staff. Always made to feel welcome, even under this social distancing.
m. c.
the servicewas outstanding I had a waitress named Zoe she was absolutely lovely food and drinks came fast very tasty. felt very taken care of having a smiley happy waitress made the experience so much more rewarding with such great service thank you !
S. S.
Good service, friendly staff. I ordered the chicken and ribs. The chicken was nice but the BBQ ribs were tough and very chewy not soft at all which is a shame because the restaurant itself is actually nice. Pina Colada cocktail was delicious! Good selection of drinks on the menu. I would visit this restaurant again. However, I would not recommend the BBQ ribs.
O. K.
Good cocktails. Burger was alright. Service a bit slow.
J. T.
Nice atmosphere, decor and general buzz. Staff were really friendly. Food was good, perfect for kids - maybe a little bit on the pricey side.
W. D.
Simple but adequate menu with quick friendly service. Generous portions Perfect for pre theatre.
A. J.
Great place to eat and location is fantastic staff were great couldn’t do enough for us, the food was lovely my wife had fajitas and I had a burger both were plentiful and tasty will definitely be coming back when we visit again.
C. G.
Great service and staff. Awesome Freakshakes which are a meal in itself. Cocktails are amazing and the food is tasty.
J. L.
Had a great visit, our waiter was hilarious and gave us amazing service, food came quickly and was hot and tasty, and the drinks were decently priced during happy hour and delicous. Will definitely be back!
J. G.
Food was great and the kids portions are generous and services is excellent.
D. D.
The staff, the food, the happy hour! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 Dennis was particularly amazing with customer service, super attentive. The food was so quick coming out, portions were so generous. My family and I had a great time for my brothers birthday. 💜
P. H.
The food was fab! And our server Leonel B was really helpful as well.
D. K.
Great beer and top food. Always a great atmosphere and the staff are great
C. C.
Great Ribs restaurant!!! Humongous quantities of food and very friendly staff. The Freakshakes are bigger than what you may think!! 😱🤗
T.
Great vibe inside and delicious food, especially the chips. Cocktails are £5 at happy hour so very worth it. Only thing I didn’t like was that the service charge is added on as if drinks were bought at full price as opposed to on happy hour prices, felt that was a bit of a joke
L. C.
Absolutely love Maxwells food is delicious and so clean staff are great xx
D. P. L.
Quality, strong cocktails at 6 pounds in Central London. Absolutely amazing
a. l.
Our favourite place to go in Covent Garden, it has moved to a smaller space around the corner from where it was originally, it still has the same warm feeling and friendly staff. We always sit at the bar for cocktails after we have eaten.
m.
Nice place, good food and great service. Go try it. Monday you get 50%of the food bill so worth a try.
A. D.
Nice atmosphere but the burger was a bit dry. Too expensive for what it was.
W. W.
Came here for lunch; food was great and waitress Zoe was really kind and really helpful.
Definitely coming again.
C. B.
they have 'happy day' on Sundays! £6 for cocktails, so yeah, definitely I'm recommending this place!
J. L. M.
Great attention from Adri, he is a crack !!!
Spectacular nachos
We will be back
A. O.
Wonderful meal and great service. The softest tastiest chicken and ribs ever.
A. F.
Spent a Sunday here and the food was great, the cocktails were £6 and our server Zoe A was very professional and friendly. Would highly recommend.
L. D.
Seems to have got smaller since I last visited 3 yrs ago.
They have moved in Covent Garden square but only round the corner.
Still great service and friendly staff, food was quick and very scrummy as well …
J. B.
Great deals on a Monday! Well worth a visit for amazing burgers and ribs 👍🏻😋
J. M. M.
The best Freakshakes in London, I was very surprised! ... Vincenzo and Tomasz amazing!
A. O.
Wonderful meal and great service. The softest tastiest chicken and ribs ever.
A. D.
Nice atmosphere but the burger was a bit dry. Too expensive for what it was.
C. F.
Love Maxwell's food, but the best is their Wingsday. I recommend it to anyone who loves chicken wings, the Buffalo wings are amazing, but the BBQ ones really hit the spot that night! Can't wait to repeat Wingsday!
A. F.
Spent a Sunday here and the food was great, the cocktails were £6 and our server Zoe A was very professional and friendly. Would highly recommend.
C. B.
they have 'happy day' on Sundays! £6 for cocktails, so yeah, definitely I'm recommending this place!
H. S.
Average food but forgetful waiters and staff, best thing about the place is the decor. Many other restaurants in town where your money would be better spent. Review for restaurant in Covent Garden.
m.
Nice place, good food and great service. Go try it. Monday you get 50%of the food bill so worth a try.
W. W.
Came here for lunch; food was great and waitress Zoe was really kind and really helpful.
Definitely coming again.
C. M.
Really tasty burgers. Vegan burger extremely tasty. Fab service. A definite good place to stop and have a drink, snack or meal.
K. D.
Great food! Freakshake is a must-try! Service is good as well :)
N. J.
Nice vibe in a great location. Would recommend booking in advance but when I haven't I have not had to wait longer than 30 minutes - enough time for a drink! Reasonable pricing and good selection of food and drinks
J. F.
Good burger and nice choice of cocktails with very friendly staff.
Prices reflect the area so take advantage of the happy hour 👍
D. R.
The most friendliest staff great food great atmosphere great place to go
P. O.
Great food, great service and great atmosphere! Adrian was such a lovely guy and we really enjoyed ourselves. Top recommendation!
A. F.
Had the vegetable fajitas they were lovely. Good service too.
S. M.
Wingsday (Every Wednesday) was superb value, especially considering its very central location to Covent Garden. All you can eat wings, chips and a beer for less than £20. Service was exceptional.
L.
Great food and Adrian R. Was such a great waiter would recommend to anyone
A. C.
Busy burger restaurant in Covent Garden. My friends were very impressed with my choice so thanks Maxwells!
a. m.
The food was ok however I'd advoid the ribs, they are like leather. Service wasn't great, not worth the 12.5% service charge added.
S. H.
Food and staff were amazing well worth the money
A. S.
Staff were lovely but the food tasted very plastic , it just didn’t hit the spot. Cocktails are great!
M. K.
Lovely food and stunning cocktails. We had Carlos as our server and he really made the night for us, so kind and helpful. The happy hour at this restaurant makes it well worth a visit!
G. I.
Great fun and good food. Our food was slightly delayed, but the manager gave us a free round of cocktails - good work that man.
C.
I didn’t have much expectation given the touristic location and was very surprised. Delicious American food, affordable prices and very efficient and friendly staff!
P. W.
What a great place, visited last Saturday and what a great night, great atmosphere, super fast and friendly service, great value for money and superb food, as a burger lover I would definitely recommend this place they are superb. Thanks Maxwell's, we will visit you again soon.
d. a.
Loved it. The offer on Mondays makes it incredibly affordable for a central London restaurant, and the layout is exciting, music good, and you're not too crammed together. We had a great view of the bar and they were making awesome cocktails all night. My server did have some trouble bringing me a simple glass of water with a wedge of lemon in it, and ended up bringing me two attempts of like cordial first with fizzy water and then flat, but other than that my burger was amazing and my friend had ribs and a milkshake which she adored.
Would definitely go again
F. O.
freakshakes were average to undrinkable. The Mars one was nice but the salted caramel one was warm! the cream was also too thick. May have just been a one off, I'm not a regular
M. C.
we were seated quickly and staff were friendly and interacted well with customers. great range of American food. nachos were amazing and large portions were given. BBQ sauce was quite spicy but all the food had a great taste. prices reasonable for the location near Covent garden, and as a bonus there is happy hour on the cocktails. worth checking out
D. D.
Great food and a great environment to eat in. Have a fantastic selection of drinks and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Great place if you want some reliable food
L. T.
Came for dinner on 2nd December, was very busy and even with the craziness of it all, we really couldn't have asked for nicer staff and greater service! Food was delicious. (Staff were very accommodating for my pregnancy needs) the staff really make this place.
Thank you so much to the gents who saw to us, will be back soon and if not before Christmas, I hope they all have a great Christmas and a happy new year! Highly recommend
Y. C.
Not bad but still room for improvement!
The nachos sharing platter was really tasty, especially the cheesy dipping sauce that accompanied it, however the chicken fajitas were dry and lacking flavour. The burgers were decent and came out quickly.
The main issue was the staff when we first arrived who took everyone else's orders first, even though we arrived before the other tables. The waiters were chatty and friendly to the surrounding tables but didn't give us the time of day until the bill came at the end of the meal, when they suddenly perked up. We then noticed a discretionary charge of £14 was added to the bill, we asked for this to be removed and they obliged.
S.
Lovely place. We have been going here for years. Really friendly staff and the food is good. Cocktails are really nice too. Wishing all the lovely staff all the best after this awful year
T. m.
Lovely service, great cocktails
M. C.
Went on a Monday with half price mains which is amazing value. Stayed for happy 'hour' which was from 8 til closing with a list of cocktails for £5 each. Loses one star because we were given no time in between courses, without exagurating it was literally about 1 minute between one course being taken and the next brought out. The food was nice but you really need a couple of minutes to let your food go down and rest a bit before getting the next one
M. N. P.
Brilliant night found Maxwell's by accident top find nice bar good service and surroundings be back soon
G. M.
Service is excellent at this place but the drinks and desserts are just ok. Freakshakes are nothing special. Cocktails are ok again nothing special. Service and staff are what makes this place good.
A. G.
Best night EVER.... 🥃🍹🍔Loved the place and been served by the best & funniest waiter in Covent Garden tottaly worth to go back just for Adrian 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
G. F.
staff are really helpful and welcoming. happy hour cocktails £5 sunday to friday, selected on menu but with great variety. amazing quality for covent garden!!
L. b.
There were five of us (including two children) and we had pre booked the night before. I had the NYC burger and it was delicious! The children's meals are a really good size and not bad value for money. For five of us (3x main meals, 2x kids meals, 3 alcoholic drinks and 2x deserts) it came to £105. I would definitely go again.
K. A.
Lovely food, great cocktails, staff were friendly and efficient
M. H.
Excellent lunch here with nice surroundings and friendly and attentive staff.
N. L.
Great value.
Lunch 2 courses and a soft drink a tenner.
I had baby back BBQ ribs tasty (6 ribs) with fries and coleslaw (very tasty and fresh). My daughter had the house burger (6oz) also very good.
Only gripe and its a small one is that the 2nd course for desert was two types of donut tasted great but probably needed an ice cream substitute as well.
I'll come back !
J. E.
Food is lovely Decor goes well with the restaurant. Service is good.
T. K.
A great example of an American bar/restaurant slap bang in the middle of covent garden. Staff are very attentive and hospitable. The drinks are brilliant with plenty of varieties to choose from.
There appears to be a meal deal every day so worth doing your research before you go.
I noticed that any meal with BBQ sauce tends to have an overload of BBQ sauce so be warned! I once ordered the ribs with pulled pork and I eventually had to wring out the BBQ sauce it was that intense!
Either way, definitely going back. It makes The Big Easy (situated around the corner, another American themed bar/restaurant) work harder for the lunchtime crowd.
K. M.
Couldn't fault the chicken burger, one of the tastiest I have ever had. Only let down was the lukewarm cappuccino.
p.
Such a lovely place. We’ve visited this restaurant today right after long walk. My Girlfriend had Barbecue Ribs and i had Chicken Fajita. All food was great and tasty. I’d love to say thanks to our server Tomasz who took care of us. That was really nice experience and we’ll back soon for sure. Thank you
C. A. M.
Always a pleasure eating here - great food and service and the atmosphere is fab.
N. S.
A nice place to eat
t. b.
Not only that the food is delicious but the stuff is amazing, I will definitely come back again
R. H.
Went there as my boy loves chilli cheese fries and this was the only place near where we were going that did them.
Turns out it was a pretty decent choice as the rest of the food was pretty tasty too.
We had between the five of us a Steak, a burger, ribs and a kids chicken nugget meal and it was all pretty good. The crispy fries were a delight.
My Mojito was a little under sugared but I flavoured it up with a dash of Angostura bitters and all was good.
It's busy so you need to book at weekends but the service is swift and friendly.
A little overpriced for what you get probably duebto the location and the steak was slightly over done for a medium rare but would definitely return.
Kids loved it.
W. G.
Good place to go for food and drinks but if you’re planning to just go for drinks you get a bad look on entry and the service is a LOT slower and every time you order they ask if you’re ready for food now
T. K.
If you want to eat here make sure it's at least 2hrs before they're closing because if it's in the last hour they treat you very poorly. Group of 5 they were being difficult in seating us so we waited at the bar, I tried to order a drink and the bar man said I have to wait until I'm sat down. Finally seated my cocktail wasn't nice at all. I ordered the mac and cheese as I'd had it before and it was great - it was so dry. It's as if they treated me and my friends as an annnoyance or inconvenient when they wanted to close. Then the waitress had the audacity to stomp off when we didn't pay service charge. The first two times I'd been everything was amazing but the last time I went it's put me off returning. Quality should be great no matter the time of day otherwise just tell people they're closed but don't give me half quality food for the full price. Shameful.
E. R.
Came here for my birthday meal. The food was good however, there was a long hair in the bbq sauce of my ribs. The staff were apologetic and took the cost of my dinner off the bill. As I booked the table and clicked that it was a birthday booking, I was surprised with a complimentary freakshake which was a nice touch! My brother had the vegan burger and he was extremely impressed. I will be coming back.
D. N.
Delicious. Great place to take the other half for a sweet nibble. Been twice and both times the milkshakes were amazing.
Restaurant food is also good. More 4 star (if not including desserts)
E. W.
Came here on my birthday with my partner and we honestly had the best time! The service was great, the food was quick and amazing. Will definitely return here again in the future!
P. F.
Great food, friendly staff.
S.
Had a a great meal here. The staff were so friendly and attentive. They followed all the procedures they noted on the website. It was a delight to sit outside!
J. L. M.
Great attention from Adri, he is a crack !!!
Spectacular nachos
We will be back
A. P.
Excellent Burgers, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Music was great and very clear.
K. R.
Kye sorted us out all night ! Recommended us cocktails. Makes a banging rasberrylicious definitely deserves a pay rise !
O. A.
Love the food, staff was great and friendly, very busy the night I went with my sister and a friend. Our waiter had to cover many tables but he did really well. Ventilation is poor though, very warm upstairs! Wonder what it will be like when proper summer hits.
Overall great service all round 👌👍💞
S. W.
We had a great visit. We ordered old smokey burgers and they were amazing.
The service was excellent. Big shout out to Luciano he was very friendly but not over the top. Good atmosphere. Will definately be back.
P. V.
Maxwells is nice. Meggie was such a lovely waitress and extremely helpful and friendly. The cocktail Mai Tai was not very nice hence the 4 stars but Meggie was lovely so I will be coming back
V. I.
Great fun! The burgers are amazing, and they have a very wide variety of food in the menu, with good sized portions. Cocktails are nice as well. The only drawback is that if you are seated on the lower ground floor, you might not get a phone signal. Then again, that might be a good thing for your social life if you come with other people.
M.
Amazing place to eat... friendly helpful staff. The food was so good. I ordered the bbq burger and it was amazing! I was sitting upstairs on the balcony. Lovely setting. Typical Covent garden prices. The only thing I didn't like is service charge was already added. Surely that's down to me?
D. S.
Great cocktails nice vibe friendly barman and cool banter. Good place to chill and relax!
S. G.
Too cold if sat by door. They don't close it just put heater on over door
K. E.
Good grill house with tasty BBQ’s but the place is a little noisy
F. J.
More for tourists than locals. Food is average, the cocktails are too sweet and weak. The customer service is good and social distancing mostly adhered to.
E. H.
A good range of food options, and a very 'American cool' feel to the place. Some may think it's a tad overdone, especially with such a lovely building.
I can't help but feel it may be better if some of the vintage pop culture murals were removed (entertaining as they are), and let people enjoy the beautiful design of the place.
This aside, the food is very nice. Service can take a little while, but it's definitely worth a visit, particularly if you're a fan of freakshakes.
S. T.
After getting a huge craving for chicken wings, my new mission is to find the best ones in London!
Starting off at Maxwell's in Covent Garden. There's a choice of either sticky BBQ or buffalo hot sauce in small or large portions. We got one of each in large, but I'm so rubbish with spicy food, I thought the BBQ ones were hot let alone attempting the buffalo ones. As usual, my eyes are way bigger than my stomach and couldn't even finish the large portion on my own - FAILED at the eating contest. For those who are interested, there is a special offer of all you can eat wings on Wednesdays, but just one large portion was enough to satisfy my craving. They were good when hot, but not so great when they got cold.
This is your typical American diner sort of joint. Wheelchair access was good with accessible toilets, but it's a bit of a challenge weaving around people to get to it. Also the taps weren't working.
Staff were great and super friendly.
S. K.
Hadn't booked and wanted a quick lunch for 3 as we had tickets for a show.
Explained above to host, who showed us to a table, got a waitress to attend, had meals within 20 minutes, very tasty, made it to our show on time, satisfied that we had a good lunch.
Will be back to spend more time and enjoy the restaurant more
H. H.
After a visit from a few years before I was left with a memory of delicious food and great atmosphere. Upon visiting London again and passing this place I decided to return. We were very hungry but there was not a long wait, the milkshake and hotdog I had did not live up to memory but was still of food standard. The atmosphere and staff was still very enjoyable.
F. R.
I dont know ... I want to like this place . The staff are great. The place is great. But everytime,we as a family get let down buy the food. The chicken is always bone dry. Why ??? Its the simplest main to cook.. We love the freak shakes happy hour coctails. But we go for the munch primarily and as the rappers delight song goes the chicken tastes like wood. We just feel that we can get better food for our money around that area.
M. B.
Amazing food and as we went on a Sunday... Cheap cocktails, cheap... Strong... Lovely cocktails. Ate with a group of 6 and all our food came out quickly and wonderfully cooked. Will be going back at the end of the month.
O. L.
Great tasting food, although, quite a limited choice. The prices are also very steep for what you get. I had the pulled pork barbecue ribs for a main, Oreo freakshake for dessert and 'rasberilicious' (or something similar to that) and it ended up costing me £40. That's a price you'd expect for two people, not one!
C. N. (.
The food was very tasty, and quite well priced for central London sit down food. The main problem was the waitress, she wasn't sure about many of the dishes brought wrong drinks and forgot items off the order. If the service was smoother it would have been 4*.
M. S.
This is a decent restaurant especially for families and groups. The food is delivered efficiently, even for large groups, and the service is very friendly.
Large American based menu with something for everyone. The quality is not great but nobody will be disappointed if you know that going in.
The decor is also nice but most of the seating is in the basement with no natural light which can be disappointing in Summer.
J. G.
Had an absolutely wonderful experience here yesterday. The food alone was enough for a good review but what stood out the most was the exceptional service we received. This will always be one of my favourite dining out experiences and I eagerly look forward to my next visit!
D. S.
I really enjoy this restaurant, the drinks menu is amazing with a massive selection both alcoholic and non. The food is a little less varied but still plenty to choose from, mostly steaks and burgers with reasonable choice of vegetarian options. Atmosphere is quite energetic with a good soundtrack in the background, noticeable without being too loud.
Z. D.
There's usually a crazy wait here, it's in a very busy part of London! That being said, I've been here a few times and the food has always been very good, the prices aren't outrageous (perhaps even reasonable for central London), and the service is actually extremely impressive. The place is huge and totally packed, the waiters are rushed off their feet, and yet friendly and you're never kept waiting. Best of all are the Freakshakes. As the first place in London to bring them in, they don't disappoint, and I'd highly recommend trying them - as well as Maxwell's in general!
E. W.
I visited this restaurant on Saturday 3rd March with my boyfriend. We hadn't booked but the staff managed to locate a table for us after around 25 minutes which was absolutely fine as we sat and had a drink in the bar whilst we were waiting. Great service from start to end with fantastic food and cocktails! Will definitely visit again when I'm next in Covent Garden.
M. W.
Booked for a meal after show for mums 80th birthday.
The staff were lovely, they made mum feel so special.
Service was brilliant.Meal was enjoyed by all 6 of us.
P. C. T.
This place is located in a wonderful area in London (Covent Garden), full of live, people and choices all around. The local is very good, two floors with a nice british-pub style. Mainly the place is about ribs and burgers. The burgers are good and they have fries and salad, they are very good but not amazing, I'm not a fan of this burger bread. The desserts are good as well. The strawberry is in a pot, different texture, not bad but I prefer the American one. The service is very nice and fast. The price is a little bit higher from my point of view, but still within the affordable range.
M. D.
Nice and reasonably priced for some comfort food. The desert shakes are well worth the trip!
A. R.
Food and drinks were brilliant, but the music was a tad loud and the lighting was a bit dingy. However I would definitely return due to the excellent quality of food
N. R.
Great great food.
Best ribs and chicken combo I've ever ate.
Sweet cocktails, real real good service and funny.
More than worth it's money.
Q. S.
Great place. Sticky wings and barbq wings must try. Watermelon margarita is awesome
M.
Food is fantastic and affordable with great staff
H. W.
Food was awesome as was the cocktails just sad I missed out in the cheese bomb burger haha
Z. S.
Starter was great nachos. Burger for me plain and dry, but this is my personal view. Chips good. Glasses for drinks are overused and see the tear and wear would be nice to invest some money on it. Seating areas nice not very spacious but just enough. Friendly service on busy times need to wait a lot if you run out of drinks to get new one. Easy online booking. Just next to main Covent Garden market.
A. S.
Limited menu as we went for a party so it was a condensed menu. Overly expensive with service charge on top so made for an expensive night out, without really having a lot of food. Understaffed for the amount of guests. Nice venue and staff.
P. G.
Excellent grill food, especially on a Monday when everything is cheap! Had a cocktail, main meal and dessert for £30. Great BBQ chicken and ribs.
B. L.
Really pleasant and helpful staff and a nice location. Their spinach and artichoke dip is very tasty and the chicken was moist with a nice, spicy barbeque sauce. Definitely will go back to try one of their signature milkshakes.
A. M.
Great place with cozy atmosphere. The food was excellent and our waiter was fab too. He went out of his way to especially help my disabled and partially sighted mum use the stairs. We were visiting London from Liverpool but we'd definitely visit Mawell's again.
K.
Pretty decent although quite pricy.
There's only one vegetarian burger option and none of the meat is halal which would've been nice.
The freakshakes are incredibly awesome though the unicorn freakshake was a bit too sweet for my taste. Would defiantly recommend if you have a sweet tooth though.
s.
The mains took a while after the starters, but the food was great. Portions are rather large. Would go again.
F. B.
AMAZING you can get a lunch, a dessert and a drink for only £10! Very clean and we where easily able to sit our family of 7 comfortably inside. Definatley recommend this place.
G. D.
Delicious food here, be warned! The portions are huge. I tend to order 2 starters and get dessert. Their mashed potatoes are so creamy and the apple pie is severed warm with a dollop of ice cream. Went here twice.
a.
let me tell you a bit about a great place to eat at covent garden
I work in the area and I like to eat well when it's lunchtime
Maxwells offers the best beefburger around
I usually take a takeaway but the restaurant itself is of a high standard and the bar will surprise even the most demanding
The manager greets you at the door, if I remember correctly, his name is Luca
I will be back again for sure
R. S.
Good vibes! Wioleta was fantastic thank you for accommodating us and sorting out George's birthday!!
N. L.
Typical American diner style food so nothing eye opening or unexpected. But it is done well, the service is always exceptional, the decor and atmosphere feels genuine and the location great.
There are NO cheap restaurants in this area BTW. Maxwell's is good value but it is not cheap.
C. B.
Great food, fun cocktails and friendly staff. Service was a bit slow but its the Saturday before Christmas so it might not always be the case, I'll have to visit again just to make sure!
t.
Very nice food friendly staff but no longer do jugs of cheese noooooooooooo
b. k.
This place is amazing! From food/drinks to their service. Completely satisfied and I would definitely recommend to go there.
T. H.
One of London’s most interesting restaurants. I enjoy eating my nachos there.
T. C.
Can't go wrong with a classic, can you? That's why I had the Maxwell's old timer and, my, was it good. Not going to discuss health issues here, just be warned it's tasty, juicy and succulent without making the buns soggy. Maybe if there ever was a burger organisation, this would be the chairperson. I hardly had space for a dessert but still tried the apple pie, in keeping with tradition. Lovely, crumbly, sweet, heavenly. God, I have to stop here. Anyway, lovely bar&grill with delicious food in generous servings and an Americana feel to it.
M. D.
Our experience at Maxwell's started well - I was looking for somewhere round Covent Garden that could handle a party of 8 or 9 with one person in a wheelchair, and staff on the phone were swift to reassure me that this would be no problem. I rang off to confer with my family about times, confident we had a place that could handle our reservation, and with a tasty menu that should appeal to everyone.
Sadly, my stepmother had a very different experience when she phoned later that day to reserve a table, and my father called me to say it was a no go, and I needed to find somewhere else. It's fair to say I'd just had a crappy afternoon navigating Westfield Stratford by wheelchair and dealing with the general public's treatment of wheelchair users, so decided to give Maxwell's another try.
I explained the situation to the lady on the phone, who then started saying things that were inconsistent with both what I had been told by her colleagues that lunchtime, and with what had been said to my stepmother. My stepmother had been told a table for 9 was no problem, but a table for 9 of which one was a wheelchair could not be accommodated, then I was told a table for 6 or 7 was the absolute maximum they could handle - what was the truth? I asked to speak to the manager.
I confess I was pretty pissed off by this point. Until you've been in a wheelchair for some time, with no obvious injury, you've no idea just how badly people will treat you. And I'd already had a gutful that day. As upset as I was, the manager dealt with me calmly, took my number and promised to call me back. Which he did a few minutes later, to confirm that all was well, and our reservation made.
To be clear, should you ever have anyone at Maxwell's say they can't accommodate a wheelchair, management will do their best to sort it out, but only the ground floor is accessible, so they may have to rearrange things and put some other reservations downstairs to do so - it seems most likely that the lady who dealt with my stepmother and then me was busy and didn't want the aggro of doing so. If in doubt, ask to speak to a manager, and they will do their absolute best to help, in my experience.
The meal itself was very good. As well as the wheelchair stuff, I also have coeliac disease, and it was great to be able to enjoy a good burger, cooked to perfection, with a gluten free bun, confident that there would be no cross-contamination. They even have a dedicated chip fryer, which made me happy as chips are so often off the menu because of the lack of this.
Other family members enjoyed steak, ribs, and wings, all happy with the choices. Portion sizes are generous, too. Although my ten year old and his aunt somehow also managed to find space for a sundae, but I'm putting this down to our family's fabled 'dessert stomach' ;)
So to conclude: glad I persevered, and big thanks for putting things right for us. Will definitely recommend to others - nowhere can get things right all of the time, but how they handle things once an issue is raised tells you a lot about the place.

Came here based on the quality of its online reviews. We had a variety of dishes, from starters to cocktails. Their descriptions sounded exciting and novel, but their actualities were merely ok. It was more pricey than it was worth.

Amazing vegan burger (moving mountains b12 patty with vegan cheese and shitake bacon)! Cauliflower wings as a starter are also vegan and super tasty. Unfortunately these are the only vegan options, so we went somewhere else for desert.

Established business in the busy area of Covent Garden. Fantastic staff and service with a good menu selection throughout the day.
G. B.
Lovely food and the staff are friendly great menu
M. B.
Absolutely the best restaurant. So polite and friendly

We stopped here for lunch and thought the food was fantastic. Staff were friendly, great service and reasonably priced food. Drinks price I thought was on the pricey side though...

Good and speedy service. I ordered the Classic Hot Dog, which was delicious, but larger than I was expecting. Plenty of space inside, so more than suitable for a pre-theatre meal and good value for money.
R. L.
It's moved round the corner from where it used to be (probably ages ago!) and the new venue doesn't quite have the same atmosphere.
Good food and nice staff. Pleasant enough.
W. C.
Lively, American restaurant with a varied menu. The food is excellent and there is a wide variety of soda drinks and milkshakes available. Excellent service. Recommended.
C. M.
Really great bar the bartender was really nice.
D. D.
AmaZing, make sure you try a Freakshake! Good price for central London
R. S.
Pretty disappointed with my experience here. Food was overpriced and burger was like rubber. I ate at lunch and a group of women who came after me were offered a discounted lunch menu, something I wasn't offered so just felt like I was getting ripped off the entire time.
A. J. W.
Hell Yeah......on our way to another diner and we spotted Maxwell,s - we were 9 so when we see 50% off Monday AND its happy hour on cocktails ......jobs a good un - in we go ....great 'Americana' food - good burgers - fajitas - ribs .....perfect family spot , great service also ....

Chose the set menu. The burger tasted good but bun could of been better. Had the donut for desert and that was ok.servers were really nice and welcoming .
M. H.
Food excellent and good service would recommend.
S. A.
Not as good as the last place this was situated. I dont like the service charge added to my bill. I would like to decide whether they have been good service or not its imbarrissi g if you dont pay it all. The food however was great and the lunch menue was great value
M. A.
The food is great and the service is fast and friendly. We was at this restaurant a Monday and most of the item of the menu was at 50% on Monday, which is also very nice!
C. B.
The food was delicious and service was very professional thoroughly enjoyed my meal. If you're looking for great value for money i recommend going on a Friday they have some deals.
K. A.
Great burger joint.
Very friendly staff. Great service. Thinking this is a great place to hold a Christmas party
A. G.
I love the blend of traditional British pub and American diner. The Freakshakes are incredible but could do without so much of the "whipped cream" (which just does not live up to any sort of expectation I've ever had of whipped cream).
_. P.
Fantastic atmosphere, professional yet friendly staff and let's not talk about 'happy hour'🥂🥳🙊😆. You get more for your money here... I would recommend
W. B.
Nice food, plenty of choices & offers, decent portion sizes, good friendly service at a affordable price. They have 'freak shakes' & other desserts.
R. D.
It is what it is. The food is standard chain fare but it's competent and there are okay vegetarian and vegan options. The service is fast, efficient and friendly. Was fine for a work do.
T. w.
I forgot how great the cocktails are in Maxwell's. We popped in to kill time whilst waiting for friends, and ended up staying the whole evening!! Fantastic bar staff too.
P. D.
Came in for a few drinks and Nico, Kai & Steve were amazing barmen!
A.
The atmosphere and setting was great, but the service was really slow and the food was average and overpriced for the quality we received
The waiter struggled to understand our order (four burger variations), and when they did arrive they were not the right additions or requirements that we asked for
B. F.
Great food, extremely friendly staff, worth a visit
B. H.
The place is somewhat cramped and dark, but the burgers and the mac and cheese are delicious! Service is fast and courteous, 'thickshakes' are very tasty, although the vegetarian fajhita is overpriced and somewhat bland. Go for the meat options if you can!
S. G.
Tasty food with quick and friendly service. This is my go to when visiting London. Was dissapointed when Joe's shut down but Maxwells lives up to its predecessor,l.
C. G.
Average restaurant that is usually super busy and super hard to get a table there.
Service is fast, but only because they want to make you eat, pay and free the table for the next customer as fast as they can.
For what it is, the place is expensive but also tastes good for what you are paying.

I contacted maxwells by email the day before valentines to confirm I could use my taste card. I got an instant reply from Gemma confirming I could use it but it will be busy in the evening so I opted to go for lunch instead. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch- ribs and chicken combo and 8oz sirloin. The food was delicious and the service impeccable , my waiter even went the extra mile by helping me with my ketchup bottle! We are already planning to return. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon. You all made our valentines day that much better.
D. S.
Food was good, especially the Full House Fries. Clean restaurant, staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend for lunch.
T. d.
Really nice atmosphere, and the food was really good, and filling probably not a place to go if you're looking for a light meal
A. O.
Food was great, value would be good at full price, but we visited on a Monday where all mains were up to half price so value was excellent.
D. H.
Awesome chilli fries, cocktails ok but it was happy hour so never the best. Staff mostly friendly bit not all.
M. J.
Fun place to eat with a lively atmosphere and great cocktails. We both had burgers from a choice of 6 types really tasty.
A. M.
Perfect place to chill after a long day! Great food, awesome drinks and absolutely killer shakes and desserts. Love the atmosphere the staff is super helpful and friendly.
B. L.
Tiago the barman makes the true best sazerac with the touch of absinthe
R. S.
Great food and staff as well as atmosphere if you like an American style diner (which I don't) but cocktails aren't as good as other places and lack refinement (u might say this is fine because of the setting but there is a deference between a cocktail and a pint of beer).
t. m.
Nachos for sharing were fab. Service was great.
A. S.
Great burgers, beautiful place. We enjoyed our dinner there. Special thanks to Viola for the great service.
R.
Great finger licking food! Great service that consistently aids you when you need it without the overbearing lingering awkwardness. The fresk shakes are an absolute must!
J. J.
Buffalo chicken wings starter were great. Ribs n chicken combo for main (hot sauce chicken was succulent and nice) it was a shame bbq chicken was dry, I couldn't eat it. Had an oreo freakshake for pud which was amazing!
S. W.
Just finished my 3rd portion of steak fajitas and totally stuffed. Steak was nice and tender. Tuesday special is eat-as-much-as-u-like fajitas with small beer for £18. Got my monies worth ;)
H. S.
Wow an amazing restaurant and the staff are very polite and efficient. Food is great and service I could not fault. Definitely coming here again. Thanks guys 😊
L. C.
really really good night, adrian is the best waiter ever
A. M.
Lively and great enviroment. Friendly/Attentive staff. Had the salmon and I could actually say it was one of the best I've ever had. Places reeks of alcohol though, but you might be into that. (Not for me)
E. O.
Great American style diner! The burger I ordered was great, the only downside was the food took quite a while to come but other than that i loved it
D. I.
My family and mr decided to celebrate the birthday in this beautiful restaurant ... the food
was good, but my 5 stars are for the service and especially for the waiter Mate, who made this day fantastic
E. K.
Staff were friendly, but I thought it a little overpriced. Be aware, they already add the service charge, so feel free not to tip.
J. J.
Great atmosphere, great burgers and it won't blow the budget
S. R.
what a fantastic meal and drinks combination
the cocktails are fab and great to share
the food is good to share as well
deserts are best shaken
prices are fair for the area and staff are all ready to help and gave good explanations to the dishes
thank you team as it created a lovely birthday party venue
M. H.
The freakshakes are brilliant and very nice. I had the new yorker burger which I found to be a bit overdone but still tasty. Service was OK, they where busy!
J.
The £10 lunch special is brilliant value (main + soft drink + donut dessert) but they need to sort out the air con!!
J. N.
Went there for a couple of drinks in the evening with my friend that visiting London. Nice place and friendly staffs. Amazing bar tender Adrian that serves us. Will definitely come back again.
S. G.
Great food and service!
C. E.
Get the ribs! Other stuff are good too but the ribs are the best! Staff is nice and the atmosphere is great. Cosy and friendly. Great for groups, families or a romantic diner.
G. S.
Lovely American burgers. Came here especially for their freakshakes.
K. B.
What an overall great experience. Our waiter Arpad was friendly and very helpful. Food was great, shakes were good.
L. M.
The best food around! Their steak and cocktails are amazing, and brilliant service to go with it. Can't recommend this place enough!
S. B.
Good burgers, ribs and drinks. Kind service. Haven't tried the freaky shakes - perhaps next time. We will come back.
R. M.
Not bad, but overpriced. The food is certainly decent but not memorable, which doesn't make it a good bang for your bucks. The ribs and the Sunday specials are a good deal though!
F. D.
Serving sizes are fairly big (for UK). Fairly quick service on a regular day, though the staff seem very busy. The food is ordinary
C. R.
Large American restaurant offering burgers and the like. Nice location with good staff, but the food was nothing spectacular and with London prices there are better options near by.
L. P.
The food was amazing! The staff were friendly and efficient, couldn't recommend this place highly enough!
P. M.
Service from Adrian was fantastic and food and atmosphere was excellent.
L. Z.
Love the atmosphere, cocktails and the BEST nachos ever
T. O.
The staff were attentive but not overbearing, the food came on time and the atmosphere was great. The food was to my liking and the shakes are amazing.
D. O.
Great atmosphere, lively staff, great food.

Absolutely amazing burgers and steak. We very much enjoyed our visit. The Maxwell bbq sauce is to die for
D. R.
Used this restaurant many times. Good location and not too expensive. American style food but well presented and very tasty. Good location for theatre goers.
J. W.
Happy hour.... What a bargain.

Great service, really good food and drinks options. The one thing that really impressed is that I didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive.
J. C.
Great food, great price, loveley waitress Federica, very efficient and attentive. One of our go to places when visiting London.
G. L. M.
Lovely place. Food was good. Staff was really nice and attentive. Cosy and cool atmosphere.
K. H.
Great, we have been to Maxwells on several occasions and each time the food and drinks have been first class.
S. F.
Good for monday half price burger. Average food but nice atmosphere for a busy central London restaurant. Great service, very friendly.
