Reviews of MOTHER Works
m.
stopped by here unplanned and we were warmly welcomed into a cosy cafe with lots of plants. the kimchi toastie was amazing (the salad could do with some sprucing but it was still nice to have some green with the meal regardless) and they have a large selection of healthy drinks. best part is obviously that everything is vegan and as a meat eater I was completely satisfied.
N. K.
AMAZING tasty vegan food! Good outdoor area by the canal for the sunny days. Dog friendly.
R. S.
My second visit and this place is amazing. Great menu, tasty food and interesting combinations. Although it is vegan there is plenty of choice for everyone and not a mock meat in sight. Staff are also friendly and more than happy to accommodate dietary requirements. I have had the shaksuka and the bombay toasties now. Will be back to try more soon!
M. T.
Quality plant based food with a nice selection of gluten free options, the staff is well informed on allergens - besides friendly and attentive.
S. L.
You need to try the Bombay toastie from here! It’s something I couldn’t have from somewhere else but it’s one of the best toasties ever!
D. J.
My friend and her lovely pooch took me her while visiting her and it was one of my top fav cafes I’ve been to in London. It’s not in the city centre, but this part of London - to me - has its own vibe and culture haha love it :) the brownie was delicious and oat cappuccino too! I’ll visit this cafe again when I’m in London!
A. O.
Used to come here alot before lockdown and now it's open again we arr back!
The Macha Latte is absolutely amazing! Need to find out what matcha they use to have a crack at it at home!
Food is great and they are dog friendly as well.
Really friendly staff, nice decor and atmosphere.
D. D.
Lovely vegan place decorated with a lot of plants, serving great oat flat whites, healthy food and smoothies. We've been coming here for a while and it never disappoints. Busy in the weekends so booking might be necessary. When they made a mistake with taking our orders on a table which turned out to be booked, they handled the situation gracefully and generously, thank you so much, we'll be back for sure!
L. T.
The food was so delicious and great value, definitely visiting again!
S. H.
Our first visit to MOTHER in a while and what a treat! The new look is amazing and the service was friendly and relaxed. The food itself was superb. Nourishing and delicious. We loved the banana bread porridge and the latkes. We’ll be back soon 👏💚
H. B.
Really like coming to Mother Works. Everything I’ve tried is super tasty (particularly brownies and Kimcheeze toastie) and it’s great knowing everything is vegan. Can’t wait to come when the BBQ opens very soon 😃
N. O.
Lovely selection of flavours. Very nice vegan food. Creams are creamy, sourdough is good and dishes have interesting and well-combined tastes. Lovely setting and friendly, helpful staff
E. C.
Absolutely gorgeous food and service! Always so impressed with food here and the new menu is wonderful - very varied, making it hard to choose what to eat! The food was fresh and tasty, all staff were welcoming and attentive and the atmosphere was very cosy for a sunny Sunday morning. Can’t wait to come back to try something else from the new menu.
L. N.
Be sure to mention you go to uni in the area if you do as they have a 10% discount!
Really enjoyed their Acai bowl and smoothies (try the cookie dough flavor if you're a sweet tooth!) and nachos.
It's really a hit or miss sometimes, burgers were dry and their rice on chilli was very grainy and lacked seasoning.
Other than that, really hip interior and a great way to enjoy the sun during the brighter days in London.
M. S. A.
Cozy atmosphere, friendly attentive staff and excellent vegan dishes. Highly recommend and will be back for sure.
l. p.
My fav restaurant in London. We live far but the travel is worthy! Looking forward to come back in spring season and try outside seating.
S. R.
My absolute favourite place to eat on the waterfront. Can't pass by without grabbing a smoothie. The smoked salmon sandwich is incredible, how they make carrot taste that good is beyond me!
Y. T.
My 3rd visit and 2nd burger- delicious once again! My friend had the Baba bowl- tasty but a somewhat excessive amount of hummus! Perhaps more grain/topping instead? Friendly staff. Will definitely return again.
T. L.
Stopped off at Mother on the first day of my holidays, and found myself a Peanut Butter Booster smoothie and GF Cheese Toastie to enjoy in the sun. The toastie was delicious, but the smoothie actually blew my mind! Would heartily suggest to everyone
E. D.
Lovely environment, friendly staff and the nicest flat white I've ever had. The beans they use here are packed full of rich honey and chocolate flavour, absolutely delicious.
T. S.
Cozy little cafe by the canal, with great interior and exciting menu. However, the food is a bit overpriced, portions small and the service not too impressive. A lukewarm welcome, and the waiter forgot about our order, even though the place was close to empty. The acaï bowl was tasty tho!
F. M. L.
Super lovely place. Great selection of vegan food. Had a super tasty coconut late. Staff are super nice. Come here a lot to work remotely or just relax.
T. C.
The bean burger was really good - one of the closest things I've had to a beef patty burger (if you're the type to compare). Not the most efficient in terms of serving times and they also team out of sweet potatoes the time I was there (big sadness). GREAT location on the river near the Olympic Park.
K. M.
This has been on my list of places to try for months and finally came down to try some of the weekend breakfasts - had the green shakshuka and a smoothie - both very delicious! Will definitely be coming back soon.
B. S.
We love Mother - they offer great coffee & smoothies - and they've endeavoured to stay open through all the COVID lockdowns. They've also been super supportive to the NHS. A great location at one end of the Here East row of shops, near the canal and on the edge of the Olympic Park :)
M. F.
Got the sweet waffles for brunch on a lovely day and sat at the outside tables by the canal. Super tasty waffles, friendly staff, and respectable business model (zero waste, plant based, locally sourced). Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that many of the options are more beautiful and tasty than filling such as the frozen açai bowl, and avocado toast.
L. W.
Had the ‘Kim - cheeze’ toastie which was great! Look forward to visiting again sometime to try some other things on the menu!
A. G.
Best vegan food I’ve ever had! Lovely staff. Well priced. Amazing homemade cakes too
J.
Oh my word, delicious vegan food. I will happily travel an hour just to eat at this gem of a cafe. Fresh blueberries in my açaí bowl, instead of the usual frozen blueberries at most places is an example of how dedicated they are to great food here. Tempted to eat everything on the menu.
N. L.
Definitely one of the best vegan restaurants I’ve been to in London. Mother Works had a really good vibe, relaxing atmosphere and a great staff! The food was very fresh, well presented and delicious! If you’re vegan or looking for a healthy plant based meal, this place is for you!
They have food, smoothies, drinks, juice and a small “pantry” where you can purchase different eco friendly things, so there’s something for everyone. It’s located on a nice path in the park next to the canal, there’s both indoor and outdoor seating.
If you’re in London, definitely give Mother Works a try!
J. G.
Love mother. Their menu changes daily so you'll always be welcomed with a new choice. Highly recommend their smoothies. Great venue too, full of plants. Plus, they have a shop section where you can refill things like washing up liquid or buy unpackaged foods.
B. S. A.
The salmon sandwich was very good. The smoothie was top notch as well. Location not the best and easiest way by public transport is just walking through the olympic park which was nice.
P. L.
Absolutely excellent food. Never mind that it's vegan, it's just really tasty food - the jackfruit curry was really well spiced (quite spicy, which was lovely) and the coffee was nice. If you're getting the curry you may want to go for the big portion if you're hungry - the small portion is more of a snack.
Sandwiches are great too - MOTHER use a tasty sourdough, and their "BLT" with coconut instead of bacon has a really nice dressing.
All in all a lovely place to come sit by the river and have a good time!
M. W.
Had banana bread, peanut butter & cacau ball and a green juice. Delicious! Cool cafe full of plants and great for chilling and seeing the sunset.
J. T.
Coffee is excellent. Good selection of tasty vegan cakes. Had a good cinnamon roll today, previously a delicious salted chocolate and hazelnut cookie. Will be going back to try tacos,.
C. B.
I had a delicious lunch here today!
L.
I didn’t realise it was a plant based cafe until I sat and looked at the menu. It’s a nice cosy little place amongst the other food places along here. Nice place by the river and you. An enjoy outdoor or indoor. Was pretty standard food, I had the smashed avocado on dough dough. I enjoyed it on a sunny day and was quieter than the other places. Friendly staff.
T. H. o. F. -. L.
Wow, I tried their Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese sandwich and peanut butter brownie last weekend. Simply incredible! The staff was friendly, healthy and uplifting. A nice bunch of people in front of the cafe made for a great experience. Going back today to try their other stuff. 5 stars !
D. G.
Surprising and welcome find. It's all super healthy. I enjoyed the quinoa curry with peanut sauce. Pleasant space. Three large tables a bit impractical, if you want privacy. Menu rather restricted. Staff friendly.
S. P.
Good selection of tasty plates. Service was excellent. Very accommodating personnel! Do visit.
T. Y.
Excellent vegan food and drinks. I am an omnivore and enjoyed it a lot, didn't miss meat. My favourite dish was the oyster mushroom barbacoa tacos, they were so delicious.
S. M.
It has to be the best place to eat at for a vegan person in London. But not only! My partner is an omnivour and he absolutely loves everything we had until now. The freshnes of the food, the flavour combinations and the carefully selected ingredients that offer a big blast of nutrients is incredible and worth every peny. Didn t had the opportunity to visit the restaurant yet with the ongoing pandemic, but definetly looking forward to it. But everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. All toasties are amazing but Kim-cheeze toastie is a personal favourite, acai berry bowl is absolutely delicious, Mother bowl very rich in flavour and nutrients and absolutely mind blowing, as well all smoothies and juices lovely and never borring!!
I order quite often from you and I always apreciate you guys and your hard work a lot! Today I felt that I have to leave a review cause you guys are amazing! P.s. I love the little postcards you send with the deliveries!
B. C.
Best açai bowls every time. Just enough crunch, with silky smooth açai. They are still this good on delivery too.
Read a few reviews here and am surprised to see comments on price, I think it’s pretty fair. Good ingredients cost money... as does rent!
We don’t follow a vegan diet but eat here regularly. Such a great spot on the canal and the team are super friendly. Looking forward to April when we can visit properly again!
R. G.
MOTHER works is one of the best vegan places I've visited in London. The food is really excellent, the location is great, and I loved the interior (before Covid took that away from us). You can taste that the food is made with love, and some items on the menu have been truly innovative - e.g they had cashew cream cheese and carrot lox way before anyone else, and the vegan cheeses they use are always top notch.
However, what I really don't understand about this place is that, every time I visit, most of the food is sold out. To be fair I usually come in the (early) afternoon. And I understand if there's a fresh food/minimum waste ethos behind it, but after many years of service, there should be some kind of routine in stock and prep levels. Yep, there might be a unusually busy day, or there might be something missing that's hard to prep or creates a huge wastage, fair enough. But for the last two years that I've visited that place, there have ALWAYS been at least two items crossed out from the menu; and very often, when I order something else from what I actually wanted, I am being told by the staff that "actually, we don't have this either. We only have [this one dish] left".
The food is really great. I can imagine people coming especially for that one item that they can't get out of their head (I sure as hell do!), but if they rarely ever get what they want, it's hard to justify going there. I definitely had a lot of buddha bowls when all I wanted was a bagel :-D
C. H.
Amazing find in Hackney Wick. Super friendly staff that almost feels like a family working together. the all vegan menu is solid with Great smoothies, açai bowls, vegan pastries, jackfruit curry, burgers, juice, gluten-free waffles.
C. A. C.
My favourite place for pancakes in London. Oat latte was amazing as well.
W. S.
My second visit and second disappointment. Mother knows how to earn money on vegans in trendy area.
The cafe was closed and they were only selling burgers, nachos and some drinks. We got 2 burgers £9 each and I can definitely say it was in top 5 the worst burgers I've tasted + the girl who was making it wasn't wearing any gloves and we are in the middle of pandemic.
Very dry and tasteless. No chips. Overpriced, overpriced and once more overpriced.
I'm tired of people overcharging vegan food just because there is no other options in the area!
Vegan food should be affordable. It's so easy to make tasty and cheap vegan food.
Please try harder or email me for an advice. I've made some delicious burgers before!
B. D.
Good food and above average coffee, this is somewhere well definately come back to when we're in the area
M. T.
Had the vegan smoked salmon and cheese sandwich and it was amazing, best "fish" I've had in ages! Cinnamon bun and peanut butter smoothie were also amazing, plus friendly staff and a great location.
T. K.
They serve some really nice smoothies even now and some good food too (take away). The peanut butter smoothie is a no brainer obviously
D. E.
Popped in here for takeaway today. Ordered the "salmon" (vegan) sandwich. Was really delicious! Quite surprised at how much flavour they managed to pack into it.
The açai bowls here are fantastic too.
Definitely recommend visiting. Easiest to cycle here as it's the most connected part of London!
S.
Mother is fantastic! delicious, organic and sustainable food and packaging. I have ordered numerous time and always the quality is 10/10 - But as the old saying goes "you get what you pay for"
S.
Amazing vegan restaurant. Very cosy and I highly recommend.
J. M.
Ended up here by accident when the breakfast club was too busy (as always!)
Food was delicious - we aren’t vegan but it was a pleasant surprise & we didn’t miss the meat / dairy. Even my fussy 3 year old ate the ‘sausage’ roll. Only downside was no Bloody Mary but we made do with a beer. Also no loos 😬
N. K.
I didn't eat here but I ordered food from here and it was very tasty! I had an Acai Bowl and a PB 'n' J Brownie and it was super good! Will definitely come here and check it out when everything eases up as the menu online is very limited. Redacting one star for the price - £8.50 for an Acai Bowl is pretty expensive.
S. D.
Although due to Covid19, the seating is outside only and the menu reduced to two dishes on Mon to Wed, the food is most excellent. The vegan nachos and burgers we had were the best we have ever tasted.
J. M.
Lovely place and people! Visit to eat, drink, study, work. Yeah, just go
M. M.
Had the classic Mother burger, which was my first vegan burger. And it was very good, would definitely eat again. Friendly service too.
T. W.
I love MOTHER! Best vegan food in London (and I reckon the coffee too) and the loveliest staff ever. Bit of a hidden gem in London's vegan scene, definitely worth the trip.
C. L.
This place looks amazing, especially the food and customer service! Some good changes!
s. p.
Amazing plant based cafe on the canal. I have come here in summer to sit outside and enjoy the day but also during the week for somewhere to work and get organic delicious food. Simple easy and affordable menu with an array of choices. Good music, super friendly staff. Love this cafe!! Highly recommend.
A. B.
Very yummy vegan sausage roll, perfect spot for second breakfast.
H.
Very good - even for a meat eater!! Was forced to go here…was pleasantly surprised
M. L.
Went here for coffee with friends and vegan banana cake. We gathered in one of the sofa areas, which was very comfortable. The space is welcoming, well decorated, the staff was helpful and nice. A bit pricey but recommend it and will be back.
C. d. P.
Such a lovely place to go to relax after a busy week or a quick coffee. Great staff and incredibly yummy food, I would suggest non-vegans to try it simply for the amazing flavors.
Would recommend 10/10 the açaí bowl - go crazy and ask for all the toppings available ♥️
F. M.
Delicious vegan food on the canal. I suggest for a snack than a proper meal. Friendly service.
J. R.
What a fantastic space mother is, the decor, music and vibe is amazing. The staff are also very welcoming and genuine.
They have really got creative with their food options, my personal favourite is the açai bowls, ingredients and love has been put into those delicious bowls.
Will be returning regularly from now on.
L. T.
Made a bit of a trek across Stratford a couple of weekends ago after discovering MOTHER Works through a Google search and finding out they had a weekend bbq. And BOY, the MOTHER burger did not disappoint! Divine, and with Kimchi added too, wow. We also bought the nachos as a side and a chocolate Brownie for dessert. You can just tell that so much care and love has gone into these vegan recipes. Visiting you guys really made our weekend and we are already planning to come back again soon to try more of your dishes!
s. g.
My favourite spot in London!
D. B.
Excellent food. My wife and I walk over 3 miles up the canal from Limehouse to have breakfast. The best coffee in London and sumptuous home made granola for me and avocado on toast for my wife
P.
Their juices are very fresh and refreshing. Drinking the juices, I feel so clean inside my body. Their juices are the best I have had. Perhaps their founders do believe in what they are doing. Thank you for using glass bottles for your juices. I like the simplicity and the earthiness of the place too, and the quietness and the calm. It is located next to the River Lee Navigation, which is a very beautiful walk. Hope they remain true, remain simple.
R. J.
Absolutely love this place, spend alot of time here. Staff are always helpful and have great craic. Probably the best vegan spot in London. Top notch. Come for the acai bowl, stay for the vibez
Y. L.
Always my number one place to go on the weekends. Exceptional food, great coffee and smoothies, and staff are always awesome and super friendly. They kept us from going insane during lockdown too :-)
_.
I went there yesterday with a friend and had an Acai bowl. I was taken back by how small it was but I was surprisingly full after, plus it was delicious! And for a first time experience it was great. The staff are really friendly and the location is beautiful. I would definitely recommend.
M. M.
Loved the kimchi toastie!
A. J. P.
One of the best Vegan burger I had in my life.. Also staff was super cool and chilled, nice music playing, outdoor sits... Amazing place!
D. J. M. L.
Super nice cafe, friendly and cozy. The chocolate balls are delicious and the açai smoothie is tasty and energetic. The beet root, sweet potato ginger soup is a must in winter. The chocolate cake is delicious and the coconut late is the perfect companion.
M. T.
A really welcoming, friendly and nourishing experience, every time! Great for hot drinks with nut mylks, smothies, breaky, snacks and lunch. Love the cold pressed juices and yummy-but-good-for-you treats on the counter! What a relief and honour to have a plant-based cafe on this canal strip! I can always be sure i am eating fresh, organic delish meals made with dedication and passion.
R. B.
Fabulous good and really nice beer. Dancing service and great location on the canal side. What is not to like?
L. R.
Love the cheese toastie, so good to have a quality vegan restaurant close by. Very friendly staff too. Would recommend.
C. K.
The food is tasty but it's pretty pricey for what it is and the portions you get.
D. H.
Decent, filling vegan nosh at a reasonable price
R. C.
The juices and smoothies are top shelf, as are the sweeter, treat-ier options (relatively guilt free). I also love the various stews and curries; all vegan, all delicious.
J. C.
Delicious and healthy food and smoothies hidden away by the canal. 👍
S. E.
Berry smoothie was nice, but a bit expensive. Staff were nice also.
L. S.
Just had an amazing açaí bowl! Loved it!
L. M.
Cute cosy space in an open interesting location by the canal. Especially nice in the summer to sit outside. Food is high vibe healthy whole food vegan.
s. w.
Yummy food, visited here for eat out to help out.. at the time there was a very limited menu! But i will definitely visit soon. :)
J. P.
Excellent food with good staff! I tried to eat the whole menu in one seating... really enjoyed the burger.
N. B.
Lovely plant-based cafe on the canal with good food, staff, and atmosphere. Only downside is that it’s expensive for not a lot of food, which seems standard for these types of places
A. C.
Running an effective take away service in lockdown 3. Order at a window, pickup at a counter outside the main doors. Busy at weekends.
N. W.
Had my first vegan burger and great coffee 10/10
😃😃
E. K.

Beautiful food, drinks and cakes, all served quickly.
S. S.
Good scenery by the canal. I had a latte and gluten free brownies, they are decent.
B. T.
Nice place, great location and the branded juice and coffee I ordered was a bit lackluster. It needed more love. It was expensive.
F. M.
Has a decent sandwich and salad option, the smoothies are definitely something you should try here!
L. C.
Nice veg food. Bit pricey. Friendly staff. Nice grassy area in front of the cafe next to canal. Clean toilets.
M. C.
Great stop off on a long walk. Even in the bad weather it brings warmth and great friendly feels. Highly recommend
C. R.
Just ordered from here through ubereats for the first time and loved the little messages on my packaging and the food was SO delish! Can’t wait to go in person.
