Reviews of PAUL Charterhouse
L.
Been there a few times, a quiet and warm atmosphere, the coffee is great, there's a good selection of delicious/fresh sweet and savoury snacks/sandwiches.
The staff are very welcoming and friendly.
The only little negative comment would be about the absence of proper cups, as I always get served in the takeaway ones when sitting in.
Overall a very pleasant place.
K. M.
Lovely little cafe.. Good tea and coffees as well as pastries. Lots of space to sit down.
Many thanks,
Kauri
W. F.
Nice mozzarella, tomato, and pesto baguette. Comfortable seating area and no music. Very good
L.
Stopped for a quick coffee break. Lovely doughnuts but cake was a little disappointing. Coffee was good and a nice little cosy place although can and did get pretty busy. In the summer I’d imagine this would be better as there was outside seating. Staff were friendly enough and service was quick. Awesome thanks.

Excellent coffee and pastries. Friendly service. 2nd branch of Paul's visited recently and both excellent.
J. V.
Paul is a consistently good chain and this branch has friendly staff that are good at recognizing their regulars and serving with a smile. There’s a great breakfast deal for coffee and pastries but don’t leave it too late as the Pain Chocolat go fast. Loads of great pastries and beautiful cakes make this a good daily indulgence or a place to pick up something a little special for your friends and family with a sweet and discerning tooth.

Best Coffee I have had in London and the friendliest staff!
M. H.
The best bread for lunches in town. Delicious cakes, macaroons and friendly staff too
P. K.
Good coffee, fresh sandwiches and very friendly staff. Plenty of seating inside and outside every visit is a good experience!
L. F.
Great customer service.Lady with long hair blond hair is so kind. She working on 8/8/21 this morning. Excellent service.
R. S.
Many thanks to the lady that was kind enough to being the coffee to the table and save me from the most boring conference call ever. You're a lifesaver!!!
L. B.
Absolutely a pleasure to go here, staff always friendly and smiling to the customer 😊
E. M.
Nice coffee, but the team is just amazing!
G. J.
A good sandwich, quiche and pastries bar. French style and largely for eating in. Good selection and very tasty. Most items are already constructed rather than the usual British custom built sarnies for takeaway. Friendly service. Not really enough seats and table clearance a bit patchy.

This one of the busiest places in Farringdon area. Every time I visit, they have a que, however the service is good and quick so you don't have to wait for too long to be served.
I had to ask for the table to be cleaned so on the housekeeping side it's a minus, the quality and choice of healthy options are very poor. Keep in mind they mostly sell baggers, sandwiches and cakes. So if you are looking for carbs free lunch - this wont the place to go for.
On the other hand is you want to indulge yourself them pay them a visit. Coffee was ok.
K. H.
Very good service. Pleasant staff and cool place to visit. Sandwiches are amazing along with cakes.
The Lattes are a little over milky, but it would not stop me coming back.
T. W.
Good coffee in a small, but high-end setting. There is a range of food available, and the staff are friendly. Ideal as a place to catch up with friends over a coffee due to it's quality, yet reasonably priced drinks menu. For food, it's slightly more expensive and there are much better options in the local area.
B. O.
Small cafe, but pleasant. Lovely macaron. Sandwich not as tasty as I thought it would be, but very fresh. Short distance from the Charterhouse, and a good option for lunch after a tour.
V. H.
Small but comfortable eating place near smithfield Market. Not a huge selection but OK for a snack. Staff helpful and pleasant. Reasonably priced for the city of London. Very clean. Has toilet facilities

Paul Charterhouse is a small French styled cafe, accomodating 21 inside and a further 18 outside. While it offers free wi-fi, it is not ideal for working on laptops (given the small sized tables), but more suited for a relaxed sit down or takeaway. If you after quality pastries and coffee it a cheaper and better alternative to Starbucks, Costa or larger chains. The service is friendly and incredibly efficient with the staff building a rapport with regular customers.
Located opposite to Smithfield Market, between Farringdon and Barbican in the City of London Pauls Charterhouse gets busy in the mornings (weekdays 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and Saturdays 8am to 4pm) so show uo early for freshly baked goods. The quality of baked good for the price is unmatched. None of the telltale artificial cyanide-fake fragrance you get from essence based baked good.
The menu goes beyond pastries and includes salads (including Salade Fermiere, Salade Chevre Provencale, Salade Nicoise), hot sandwiches including Croque Monsieur ans sandwiches (including Sandwich Montagnard). The Mini Chocolate Doughnuts are amazing and £5 for 10. Some of the best vegetarian options include Croissant Omelette and Quiche Flamiche Poireaux.
Like other chains it offers a loyalty card with a Buy 9 Get 1 Free offer. When you register the card you will get a FREE Parisian Breakfast which is a good deal.

Green tea macaron was delicious, albeit extremely sweet. Caramel tart was the same. Go if you have a sweet tooth, it will definitely hit that sweet spot.
A. A.
Early morning coffee and pastries - the quality is very average, but the staff is friendly. Still recommend, especially if you’re visiting the Smithfield in the early hours. I was a bit surprised the cafe doesn’t offer Oat milk as a barista option, seems a bit behind your typical London coffee culture, but I’m sure it’s coming.
J. M.
Clean and well presented coffee and pattiserie in Smithfields market. Nothing special particularly and not even the best PAUL I have been to but certainly nothing to complain about. Great for a business 1 on 1 meet up and coffee
H. S.
Good coffee but unfortunately no vegan food
M. P.
Good service and selection of drinks, although only one salad box left at lunchtime, which is vastly different to Pret and other similar stores.
Wide selection of gift boxes and takeaway items.
B. M.
Love getting my croissant from here

Visit : coffee stop out whilst walking east / west then back
Stopped on a slightly sunny and chilly Thursday morning for a latte and choc au pain sitting outside - fortunately no smokers were around - however as the outside of Paul is not in the sun it was quite chilly
Paul is pretty standardized around all their locations, except perhaps, their overseas locations which seem to be of a higher quality and selection to those in London i have ventured into .... for example the Tokyo outlets are far cleaner with a far wider selection of produce on offer from pastries to breads to cooked items depending on where - each of the London outlets has limited pastries / breads and / or similar on offer and it seems a rather downbeat and 'regular' cafe approach
Pastries and coffee are fine though and certainly beat the rather dreadful starbucks in the UK
Good as a stop off point and sit outside - there are a few 'other' chains with outside seating nearby but they don't look so pleasant unless you head over to the pantry which has outside seats but isn't really a 'quick coffee spot'
Plus point is that the roads beside the outside seating area are fairly quiet

Really great place for a tasty coffee and a quick bite. Staff are helpful and always smiling.
R. D.
Nice location and good coffee but place really does need cleaning a bit more often. Usually quite grubby.
F. B.
No pain aux raisins but apricot tart very nice. Open on a Sunday which is a definite plus.
P. D.
Excellent pastries (as usual) and decent coffee. Worth signing up for their loyalty card.
A. D.
Nice but way over priced and the pastries are kept on the shelves all day which turned my particular tart extremely hard, for the price I would expect much more, however the coffee was excellent.
Z. F.
Great coffee, nice people, cheap prices. Tastes much better than Starbucks and it's cheaper.
J. P.
Of all the Paul outlets in town, this is my favourite. Sitting outside on the pavement with a high quality espresso watching the hustle and bustle of Smithfield Market and Cowcross is very pleasant.
M. J.
Absolutely delicious hot chocolate.
Not suitable for anyone trying to avoid calories, carbs and saturated fat!
I. V.
Great sandwiches and coffee! Service is very good as well.
L. J.
Staff is very friendly. Coffee and sweets always great.
R. I.
Decent coffee, felt the selection of sweet and savoury was a little limited to other Paul cafes
C. L.
Nice and chill cafe, very relaxing with great “hot” tea.
M. M.
Nice, but if you don't mind the walk to St Paul's, go to the Paul there, as they have more sweets and savoury treats
V. W.
Paul always has good baguettes and didn't disappoint. Coffee was good too
G. R.
Always had a good opinion of Paul due to nice pastries and sandwiches, but avoid going there for cakes!
G. S.
Good for coffee, croissants, baguettes and many other tempting breakfast, brunch and light lunch goodies. Opposite Smithfield.
A. W.
Really nice coffee and pastries, staff not the friendliest.
J. A.
