Reviews of Poppie's Fish & Chips, Camden
A. T.
I absolutely love love love Poppies. My favourite still remains the fish cake, cod and mushy peas. The staff is absolutely amazing, always so kind and helpful. I am so addicted to this place. Highly recommend. The best fish and chips SERIOUSLY! I even ordered a dozen fish cake and mushy peas to freeze, they do freeze well. Just pop in oven for 20mins and its as good as freshly made!
A.
Got a takeaway from here this afternoon. The food was prepared and dispatched swiftly. I loved the packaging and the food was packed with great care. This was by far the best fish & chips I’ve tasted to date. Chips were out of this world. The Cod & Scampi had amazing crunchy batter and nothing tasted the slightest bit greasy.
You’ve won yourself a regular customer ;-)
N. R.
It was an awesome experience at Poppies, tasty fish and chips and wonderful staffs. The way they treat their customers is superb. Interior of the shop is very attractive and the food is very delicious.

as always, the setting, the music is a dream come true. The 1950s are alive again. We came from Germany with 9 months old baby. One waiter was quick and fun. There is a changing table. Lots of deco, posters, old things. Mittens at Camden Market. music fantastic. The fish was not salted enough, but hardly any waiting time. As always, we really liked it.
I. S.
Best fish and chips in London. We ate chicken pie it was amazing and the apple pie. The staff is very nice. I would like to come again my next time in London
N. F.
Best place to have fish and chips! Pleasant restaurant where you can sit and enjoy the meal away from business and noise of Camden market! Very pleasant restaurant and staff.
J.
Gorgeous vintage style fish and chip bar serving buttery, flakey cod and wonderful chips. Prices are about average, but the portion size definitely makes up for that. The staff are wonderful and friendly, and especially go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
G. W.
Amazing!!! Authentic Fish and Chips, Chicken Pie, and side items. Above all, the service by the staff was extremely friendly and professional. They catered to every need of ours and even let us try out some drinks. Food deserves 5+ stars and the experience/ambiance is just awesome.
Highly recommend checking them out.
P. G.
Honestly the best F&C I've ever had! Very high quality fish and well presented.
But its expensive. A delivery of Large Cod and Chips is £20 a person which is more than average. But its also far superior quality so worth it

One of the best fish-and-chips places I’ve been to in the UK. This is the first time I’ve had Haddock instead of Cod, the waiter recommended it and it was very nice, tender and flaky. The batter was amazing - it is possible to eat it on its own almost! The chips were great as well, not too oily and cooked perfectly. I also tried the fried calamari rings appetizer, small portion but absolutely wonderful and fresh tasting. Very good sauces on the side. They also have a variety of drinks to choose from. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an old school diner, some good old rock n’ roll and blues music playing in the background. The service was very courteous and friendly, and the entire place was spotless clean. It’s a bit pricey but well worth it. Even the regular portion of the fish and chips was huge! Highly recommended.
U. O.
It was ok, a little bit pricey. The chips were quite dry and the cod with barely taste.
V. C.
Seafood platter and fish and chips both taste good! Good service as well!
L. A.
This has to be THE BEST Fish and Chips money can buy . The staff are amazing , Very welcoming and Super friendly relaxing atmosphere.. I cannot recommend this enough . Its a MUST VISIT . !
They even offer Bar facilities Eat in or Take out . I recommend you Eat in .
R. C. S.
Very pleasing retro ambience and aesthetic with pleasant service staff. Great selection of food and drink - ideal for when you're with friends or family. Portion sizes are perfect. Would recommend!
J. B.
I never had sausage and pickle like this ever in my life. I loved it! So much salt and vinegar on my sausage but that's OK because I was having fun and would definitely go back to Poppie's!
P.
My first visit to Poppies and it wont be my last, helpful & friendly staff, take away food was great, we had the cod & chips x3 with a tasty side of curry sauce, the food was 9/10 for me, will defo be back soon.
L. E.
10/10 excellent food

Clean restaurant with good atmosphere

If you are in Camden Town, eat here!
Really lovely place to eat. The way they decorated their place, beautiful! Even the clothes of the waitress fits. Really nice outfit! 😊 Super friendly and interessed. And they were absolutely really nice for the kids. (1 and 4 years old). The food was delicious!
P. T.
Brilliant fish I’ve never tasted before well worth it lovely stay 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Went here as a treat for a friend that came to visit all the way from Malaysia. I’ve read how great poppies fish and chips are and had to try them myself. I ordered the regular haddock and boy it was huge!! Can’t imagine how the large would be. The fish and chips are complimented with a cute bottle of ketchup and tar tar sauce. The batter is so light and great tasting on its own. The fish is fresh and fabulous. The service was very friendly and efficient. When we went there, there wasn’t a lot of people, so we were seated straight away on the upstairs area. Just as we sat down, so many people came in and fill up the room. We still managed to get our food promptly. I would highly recommend this place!
D. A.
Great fish&chips and dessert!
Very friendly staff
J. M. L.
Even though this is a classic Fish & Chips place, the Chicken here is surprisingly tasty and they have THE BEST chunky fries ever!!!!! Recommend asking for their gravy sauce, absolutely delicious!!
R. C.
Lovely fish and chips. Great service and very polite staff. All in all, you made my birthday a night to remember. Just disappointed I cannot give 10 stars.
Well done.
N. F.
This is an excellent restaurant to indulge on fish dishes. We had a very warm welcome from Selma who provided brilliant service from start to finish. The mixed fish meal I had was delicious and crisp, accompanied by the chips which were to die for.
We've been here before but this is by far the best meal I've had and doesn't disappoint, ever.
Can't wait to go back!
F. L.
VERY nice fish and chips.. tastiest fish ever.. owner was lovely man who gave the kids some (really nice) ice cream .. all the staff were very helpful and friendly too .. can't recommend enough .. definitely will return 😍
S. T.
A wonderful place at a great location! We tried their fish cake and chicken chips taste was amazing flavour were very good and also tried there love island cocktail also in dessert we had there toffee pudding which was amazing! A must place to visit and try there fish cake and their service was also very good and staff was very friendly!😊
A. G.
Friendly Staff, tasty food. I had the fish&chips by the canal, so overall a good experience. One big portion shared by two. Good value for money.
A. F. P.
The food is perfect! It is really huge for 1 serving. They have Cod and Hallock which taste differently. For the ambience of the place, it is lovely! It has the 80s feels based on how they design the place and how the crews' uniform are designed. I also love their fish cake, it goes well with the gravy!
N. H. M. Z.
Beautiful location in Camden, great for lunch stop in between shopping and people watching. Friendly staff and yummy food. I had the mixed seafood because I cant decide. 😆
D. C.
The legendary spot for Fish and Chips at Candem.
The best fried cod we ever have tried before in London. Just tasty, traditional and amazingly yummy.
It is a bloody must for a fish and chips
A. D. S.
Great fish & chips but the fries can be improve a lot. This place would be a must with great fries.
Poppies beer is very good. I recommend it 😉
Service was good, waiters are friendly and we did not wait too much for our plates.
S.
Let’s be honest — you can get fish n chips anywhere in London that will taste just pretty good but the ones here are much tastier and comes with an amazing scenery. The old school diner vibe and vintage photos all around along with a boom box will make you feel like you’re having fish n chips in the 80s.
m. m.
Very good fish and chips. You can choose between standard size and large size. Large size is ok to share. The restaurant is very nice.
C. P.
Great fish and chips, will definitely come back. Also very nice and helpful service.
A. I.
Classic institution in Camden. Fresh fish and chips, the chips might seem undercooked for some chip lovers as some other chip places double fry the fries. One thing that I would change is the amount of Tatar sauce served, it's just a small container with another small container of ketchup. You can ask for more but a default larger serving would be nice.
A. I.
Very nice place, and good food and service
R. K.
I’ve tried numerous fish and chips places in London and I should say this is the best fish and chips I’ve ever had in London. Their fish and chips is a bit saltier, making it more flavourful than the others. They offered about 6 kinds of fish, my favourites are (always) Haddock and Cod.
The place was neat and old-school, giving a ‘traditional’ feeling to my dining experience. The service was quick and responsive.
M.
This is the spot to visit if you’re in Camden and you want British fish & chips . Overall the service is excellent and the credit goes to the store Manager and the whole team. I used to come here often as I was working in Camden . 👍🏻
P. L.
One of the fish and chips was good and one was dry. Not much flavor unless you use the sauce. Not really worth the wait.
G. X.
Good fish and chips for an average price. I got the cod although I heard later that the other fish is better. I asked the waiter and they didn't mention in. They also add a service charge if you dine in. Okay sized portions. Lots of seating. Friendly service.
M. P.
Food is okay but has nothing special. It is super touristy and crowded. You wait quite some time before having your food to be served and the chips aren't crispy nor hot, fish is boiling hot, same as mushy peas that aren't really good.
Over all a bit disappointed, it doesn't the 4.3 stars it has
Y. H.
Premises are clean, staff are very friendly and welcoming and good location. We had 3 haddock, two were good but one was very overcooked. Chips were good. Service is slightly on the slow side.
K. C.
Good place to drop by near Camden Market. Fish and Chip, and fishcake are quite nice. The place looks nice, decorated in old style diner.
S. D.
I had a great experience at Poppie’s Camden Town. The food was very nice, came in big portions and the staffs were friendly and helpful. Very cool decorations as well.
E. L.
This is my favorite fish and chips place in UK. A. It’s visit place when you are at Camden Town. Crust was crispy and thin, fish was fresh.
B. M.
We went in this place cause a lady that I met in the train said to me to go there if I wanted to eat a very good fish and chips, and so I did. Even if it was Sunday we didn't wait long before entering, no queue at that moment. The staff is veeery kind and smiling. The service is fast and food is very very good. Thanks Poppies
A. P.
By far the best fish & chips I've ever had! So fresh and the crispy batter flaky fish combo is a winner!
C. K.
Love their fish and chips, interior design and nice atmosphere. It’s a bit pricey but worth it. It’s not hard to find the restaurant, just follow their signs on the street.
K. B.
Very generous perfectly moist fish. The tarter sauce was a perfect accompaniment. It was my first time trying mushy peas but I thought they were very tasty. Service was attentive and friendly.
j. r.
Fantastic fish and chips. They also have beer if you’re eating in. Win!
S. S.
We eat a very very great fish&chips!!! We appreciated very much! Only one things negative with the change in euro it was a little bit expansive for us!
I. T.
It's been the first fish and chips I tryed. It was correct but too expensive. We have such a good fish in the Basque Country!
C. R.
Great fish and chip. Very nice staff. I went a couple of times and everything was perfect. Only a bit noisy because it's usually busy.
K. A.
I asked the staff if I could sit upstairs on the first floor, but the staff refused. So I sat near the window but everyone who came after me went upstairs which was very strange. Other than that, the food was great! got regular fish and chips and sausage with chips, yummm!
m. e.
Fish and chips at Poppie's simply the best, I have been going there for long time. Love it in there. Delicious.
A. N.
The best fish and chips I have ever eaten!! Lovely food and very friendly service!
N. N.
It's a really cosy place, friendly staff, fast service and high quality. Would definitely go again! Mushy peas are super and there is a fair bit of sustainability considerations in their produce selection.
A. M.
great fish n chips. we asked them if they ever had fried pickles and they couldn't believe that was an actual meal. 10 minutes passed and they (without asking) made their first ever batch on the spot for us. highly recommend, ask about it!
D. N.
I have to say food was great but the staff were amazing.... we questioned about the eggs in the vinegar jars... and they brought us on the house to try them..... very attentive and friendly... thank you! Btw the mushy peas the best the best we have ever tasted.....
S. M. M.
Slightly expensive. They charge for ketchup and mayo if you take away.
Fish size is disproportionat some people get bigger pieces than others.
Taste and quality is good.
T. M.
Really nice place with good traditional food and brilliant staff. The tables near the entrance are pretty cold in the winter.
M. D.
Fast, friendly, and efficient are the best words to describe my experiences eating here. Highly recommend the fish and chips (Haddock is the better of the two) and they are by far the best place to get Fish and Chips in London. Cooked fresh right in house and served with traditional sides like mushy peas and pickled onions, at an extra cost. Not a great beer selection but I came for the food. Entirely worth the trip here!
c. s.
Excellent! Best fish n chips we had in London. Unique design and atmosphere as well, fish and chips were great.
A. P.
Best place to try fish and chips , go for the cod one and try the lager beer with mushy peas. Food at its best.
V. T. L. N.
It’s a good restaurant. The fish and chip is OK. The ambiance is comfortable.
s. g.
Great taste. So delicious.. One of the best fish i have had..
K. B.
Ok, this place was recommended to us by friends friend, and we sure were not disappointed. If you like good food, great atmosphere and incredible service this is the place to go. We loved our fish and chips, but nothing compares to the guys who served us were sooooo nice! Friendly and helpful and makes you feel so welcome. I love oldies music and if you do to, go there. There is constant music on, 40s, 50s, 60s - so much fun. Unfortunately due to current situation the usual live music and dancing is not happening, but we will definitely be going back once this is happening! Thank you for a great experience Poppie's Fish and Chips ❤
A. K.
Great fish and chips, but portion size could be better
P. R.
First fish and chips in months and poppies did not disappoint! Great chips, lovely batter on the fish and a godly portion of really great mushy peas.
O. Ş.
Delicious haddock fish and chips
Mushy peas are really tasty
Great service
Thank you 🙋♂️
M. H.
Very busy but efficient place for traditional fish and chips. Enjoyed the music and decor, good tourist experience.
m.
Best fish and chips we ever tried. Cosy place with charming personnel.
L. G.
I've always had a great time even getting a take away today. The fish cakes are excellent, the bread roll was lovely for the chip butty. Excellent service, good music. Great friendly staff. I love the place. The chips are proper and fresh as is the fish.
J. P.
Lovely experience and second time here. First take had takeaway and the portion was way bigger and seemed fresher than when ate in the restaurant. Still food was nice but just didn’t seem as fresh only reason for not 5 stars.
Staff were friendly and very attentive.
Would return.
M. Q.
Friendly staff, cousy space, good place to eat the traditional fish and chips dish with variant options. Fast served.
i. n.
Very good fish and chips. Very good live music. Great atmosphere.
M. O.
Gem of place. Can eat in or have traditional to go. Really buzzing atmosphere. All food freshly prepared. Mushy Peas best ever. Asked for two slices of bread and butter expecting Mothers Pride with margerine or the like and was amazed to get some real crusty bread with real butter. As you can see from the picture it was door stop quality. All in all great place for fish n chips and more.
J. J.
Haddock fish and chips with mushy peas was a great combo. The whole restaurant was carefully designed, even the toilet wasn't left out! Service was excellent. Would recommend.
k. b.
Having now been to Poppies in Camden Town a few times I am always amazed at the quality of the Fish which is beautifully fried. The Chips are the best I have had. The service is excellent so a big thank you goes to Halis the Manager. He runs a tight ship with professionalism. Highly recommended.
R. H.
Quality traditional fish and chips! Great service, pale ale a great match.
r. r.
If you visit London you cannot miss Camden town, a very fashion and alive part of London. Here you can find this restourant, a focal point in London if you want taste a very good fish n chips (in photo you can find the big portion of traditional fish n chips)
H. I.
Fish and chips nice. Atmosphere great and staff so lovely.
A. S. I.
I can't say I know my fish and chips like the back of my hand, but the fish was fresh, the batter crispy and the chips were great - free flow sauce always greases my pipes too.
Is it touristy and tacky? Absolutely! Do I care? Of course not it's Camden what do you expect?
C. W.
Personally don't like the breadcrumbs coated fish & chips. It was ok. Nice beer to go with it. Chips was a bit soggy. Portion is big.
A.
Love this place
Fish and chips are great
Never been disappointed
Portions are great too
D. J.
Food was outstanding the fish was delicious battered to perfection
j. j.
Having now been to Poppies in Camden Town a few times I am always amazed at the quality of the Fish which is beautifully fried. The Chips are the best I have had. The service is excellent so a big thank you goes to Halis the Manager. He runs a tight ship with professionalism. Thank you to you all. Till the next time
H.
Fish was nice but chips were a bit on the soft side. Expensive place to eat
M. M.
I had a take away but the restaurant itself had great vintage decor and the service was fast!
Food itself was delicious, I ate it all! Although cans of coke were expensive, only flaw.
A. M.
On to the food... Even though I only got the kid's lunch, I still thought the portion of this meal was just right for me. I actually wonder how big the regular sized one is if this one filled me up! The cod fish was nicely cooked with a crunchy coat. This restaurant even served its fries with a homemade ketchup sauce! It is super delicious and definitely worth a try.
K. S.
It is a great place to have your fish and chip. Price is reasonable. It is near to Camden Town station.
C. E.
This was a lovely just sitting outside enjoying the vibe of Camden .... you can guarantee. good ingredients .. what made this equally special.. was the lady I shared the fish & chips with this was her first ever experience.. and she loved it !!
N. R.
Decided to eat here after strolling thru Camden Market. Fish and chips was very tasty! Place is small thou.
S. R.
The food was good, the back ground music was good but not to loud so you could hold a conversation with out raising your voice. Also polite service
R. N.
Great fish n chips here! The regular cod is already awesome. Go for take away if you are earlier than 11.
A. R.
I always visit Poppie's when I am in London if I want to eat fish and chips. Nice place, the prices are great, the staff is wonderful and the food is delicious. Also the location is perfect if you want to visit Camden later.
K. A.
Chips are pretty crispy and the portion is large. However, we just found the fish and scampi a bit too oily for our tastes.
E. D.
This was my first London fish and chips experience. It did not disappoint! I hope to stop back in next time I'm in town!
D. S.
Great restaurants. Great fish and a really nice place to eat with good music inside.
The customer service is great !
R.
Best chips in town! Not the cheapest but totally worth it and the staff is super lovely.
M. L.
WOW , poppies is wonderful gaff , its like going back in time to the late 50s early 60s ,the décor is amazing . and to top it off the food was good, staff helpful and friendly ,
D. B.
Absolutely amazing food
Z. A.
Great fish and ships; they have several branches around London. Tried thr Haddock fish and was good.
M.
Very generous perfectly moist fish. The tarter sauce was a perfect accompaniment.
V. L.
The best fish and chips. And a nice team 👍
M. B.
Great fish and chips, fast service even when short staff.
G. W.
Very good location to have your dinner and have a beer with a live band performing. The service is good and the food is also good, specially the chips and fish dishes as the name suggests. Night life is also good as you have lots of pubs around. Ideal if you have a gang of people to go with. Overall i had a pretty good time there.
B.
Surely the best fish and chips restaurant. Not on the busy road and really enjoyed. Thank you.
L. A.
Love the fish & chip... Should try the sticky toffee pudding.. Da best
D. J.
Excellent fish and chips in a very pleasant atmosphere.
g.
This place is truly amazing! We had an amazing time from start to finish. First off we saw a line at the start but the woman there informed us that the wait was only 4-5 minutes, and she was right on the dot. The place was packed but ran like a well oiled machine. We ordered the classic fish and chips with 2 types of fish and the chicken. It was all delicious! Personally I preferred the cod but they were both wonderful. The tartar sauce was exquisite and the chips crispy. The prices were good and the fish were big. All in all an amazing experience!
S. P.
Nice ambience. They serve the best sausages and fish and chips.
陈.
Amazing fish and chips. Love it. Will definitely visit again! Sometimes need to wait for around 10-15 mins to be served. But the food is so good and the environment is nice. It could be better if has more sauces.
D. K. (.
This is one of the best fish and chips place to to. Chips are great fish is not bad but I've had better. Though aesthetically it looks nice to have the sauces in little pots, it doesn't make it easy to get the sauce out! Maybe it's part of the experience... I leave that up to your judgement!
J. G.
Very good quality fish and chips. Pricey but worth it. The restaurant has a nice nostalgic feeling to it. The staff are friendly enough, though it gets real busy at times and they will be rushing around a bit. They have some nice beer and ale selection, home brands. The chairs and table are old and hard. Does get a bit uncomfortable after 10 - 15 minutes. You do have to wait out side to be seated, this can take some time and if it's raining it can be quite unpleasant.
Considering that it's Camden and there are lots of other cheaper options for food, as well as cheaper fish and chips, I think it's still worth it.
J. B.
Tip top rwtro fish and chip restaurant with tasty food and drinks
A. J.
Best fish&chips in London!! Very cool place :)
S. F.
I loved the fish and chips here! I would rank it the best of all the fish & chips I had while in London. Very busy place. Ordering took a bit but food arrived at our table quickly, fresh and hot. Best chips anywhere. Freshest fish also. I agree the small jars of ketchup and tartar sauce are a bit disappointing but it is unique to Poppies. What makes it absolutely the best is the have Camden Town brewery beers! The Camden pale ale is the best!
L. L.
Amazing service and food. A friend was visiting from America and wanted a true ‘fish and chips’ experience. This is the place. Further, their menu said service with a smile to which I scoffed and said I doubt it. Happily I was proven wrong! Food was hot, fresh, fast and legit. Service and attention has to be one of the best in London. Will definitely return and would highly recommend!!!
F. H. H. S. U. “.
After the Dont Flop rap battle at the Cause in Tottenham the team headed to Camden for fish n chips and enjoyed them throughly.....Pc opted for Chinese street food.
R. S.
Best Fish and chips in London!!!🇬🇧 Amazing service and Friendly Staff!! Definitely coming back 👌🐟🍟
L. T. L.
It was the best fish and chips I've had, though I can't say I think much of the dish to begin with. Also enjoyed the mushy peas more than expected. This location is quite touristy, though we didn't have to wait that long as they have plenty of seating.
R. K.
Hello Poppies fish and chips
Funnily enough im a vegan and so is my partner we’ve been vegan for over a decade but whenever we decided to have a little fish it’s only ever poppies we would break the rules for 😊
The meal was amazing as usual the standards your branches upkeep are something that has to be mentioned as it never , and I mean NEVER fails the tastebuds on the consistency poppies fish and chips deliver.
Another mention has to be done on all the staff at each branch both Camden and spitalfields who are always warm and welcoming 👍🏾
We usually go to the spitalfields branch however after discovering you also reside in Camden closer to us, we will be paying you guys regular visits too.
Thankyou once again for a fantastic meal.
Your happy customer
Racquella ❤️

Love poppies! A real go to for consistent fish and chips Mx Love the 1950’s vibe of the style of the place. Has a nice atmosphere. Portion sizes are generous and the fish and chips are fresh and very tasty. They have some of the freshest chips. Staff are friendly and helpful. They have it set up as a restaurant and a take away.
J. B.
My favourite chip shop in London, staff are friendly it's not expensive, I love the whole style and feel to it. The little historic facts on the walls brings a nostalgic feel to the place. If your in Camden it's deffo a go to
M.
Excellent venue for just about any occasion! There fish and chips is very hard to beat in camden, and they are in such a great central location! Not too many people know about this place, so I am trying to let everyone know how wonderful the atmosphere, the food, and the people are at this wonderful restaurant! And on some nights they have live music! Once again it's a surprise to find such a clean and superb restaurant in camden. If your over eating on the street, definitely check this place out!
H. M.
This place was clean and easy to find. After reading many reviews about fish and chips restaurant, i've decided to go to this one. The traditional fish and chips (cod or haddock) costs 12£ for the regular size and it was more than enough for me. The fish was crispy outside and tender inside. It wasn't fishy at all. Nothing was too greasy, it was perfect. I recommend ++
M. R.
Excellent fish and chips. There is always queue at the entrance but they are very fast. We have tried just traditional fish and chips but all dishes look very nice. The restaurant is very clean (including the toilet). A little bit more expensive that expected, but really delicious.
C. S.
A bit pricey for the "large" but good to experience at least once
S. S. I.
Great food, good ambiance, friendliest staff.
F. M.
Loved the fish and chips
E. C.
I never had fish and chips before and this was a great introduction to me. It's a small place but accommodating to everyone that was in there because the place was full. The downstairs restroom was interesting. I would definitely go back and eat up some more.
G. L. K.
Best fish and chips in town!! I strongly recommend this place.
S. C.
Very good quality food. Great batter on the fish although the calamari could have been crisper. Good selection of drinks including Camden ale.
A. C.
I know it's a chain but was excited to get some fish and chips as we live in Denver in the USA and when you find fish and chips they are pretty terrible. The food was good. Just had simple fish and chips. The service was speedy and efficient. Drinks selection was small but ok for a fish and chip shop. I enjoyed my meal and would go back.
J. C.
Great food and good service. Fish and chips were great and the prices were reasonable. It was quite busy when I went, but if you have a smaller group it seems to be easier to get a seat.
P.
I had takeaway haddock chips and peas. The eclectic decor in the restaurant is a nice touch, I would definitely consider eating in next time. Generally I find fish and chips in London of average quality, these were an exception to the rule, not quite on a par with The Magpie cafe in Whitby (my No1 this year) but not far behind . Chips were dry, crispy outer and fluffy inside. The fish had good crispy batter, not at all stodgy. The fish flesh was tasty, my only criticism would be that it was slightly dry and chewy around the edges. Mushy peas were good, the portion was huge so sadly some of those went to waste. I have intended to go to Poppies the last few times I was in London, I will definitely be back.

May 2021 via Deliveroo.
thanks to the restaurant, I really enjoyed the fish and chips warmly, quite crispy not oily even though it was delivered.
M. H.
Excellent fish&chips, good service and reasonable prices
A. G.
Visited this place because of people said this is a must visit to try Fish and Chips dish in London. They offered at 5-6 variety of fish. We played safe and ordered the usual fish = Cod and Haddock. The Cod taste better as compared to Haddock, in my opinion. But both tasted good. The environment is bit like 80s - could be nostalgic to some people.
K.
Amazing fish and chips! They were crispy and lacked any soggyness! The presentation was amazing. The jellied eels were a bit strange and definitely wouldn't try again but the fish and chips is undoubtedly one of the best I've had. Service was pretty good as well and the dinning area was lovely.
H. S.
Really nice fish & chips, I had the fish cakes, which were good quality. Decent portions too. My only issue is how long the food took to come. We sat in the restaurant, but the 'kitchen' or fryers were serving both kitchen & takeaway. That's fine, except there was no reason for it to take so long, as there was only one person in the take away the whole time we waited (which was a good 20 minutes) & the restaurant wasn't even very busy due to early tea-time! Staff could definitely be more attentive in this place.
K. G.
This was some of the best fish and chips I e ever had.
Chips were chunky and substantial and were soft and fluffy to the core without being overcooked on the outside, which had a nice light crisp to them.
Fish was well cooked and tasty without a hint of unnecessary oil.
P.
Absolutely delicious haddock and chips. The fish had such a crispy batter which I enjoyed. I loved their curry sauce.
C. C.
Probably the best fish and chips place in London. Not only the food is delicious, but the service is super friendly and they have amazing live music! It is such a great atmosphere with people singing along as they eat. Very fun place
R. K.
Very good fish and chips! We visited as a group of 6 adults and 4 children. The restaurant atmosphere was great with live but mellow music being played. The musician themselves should get a special mention, really excellent and interacting with the children.
I was with my German brother-in-law who really wanted to try some English fish and chips and we would have struggled to find a better place. The food was great and traditional which is what we were after.
The staff waiting the tables were also super, nice and friendly, brought us drinks when we request etc.
Cannot fault Poppies. We'll be back
L. K.
We were at Poppie's yesterday.
It's our first time in London and we wanted to try local food. Because of that, we searched for a good place to eat Fish & Chips. Poppie's is such a place. Be prepared to wait a few minutes to get a table. It's worth it!
H. H.
Excellent fish and chips.
Authentic British fish and chips experience in a cosy place.
W. H.
Really liked the place. Staff were very friendly, it's well decorated and the staff are polite and friendly. The Fish and Chips came and the food was good, we originally ordered Hake but it it wasn't available and we opted for Cod. We got the Bill and it was as expected. The only big surprise was that there is a 12.5% Service charge added to the Bill. Had I have known this I would have probably not have gone into this establishment. As far as I am concerned Gratuity should be a choice when paying a Bill.
x.
Staff are friendly as always.
Wanted Large Cod and chips, and lady asked if large or small chips which was very good of her,as some places just charge you for large.
Was told Cod would take 10 mins, and was offered Large Place which I don't usually eat,but to my amazement I loved the fresh fish, and the chips were very well cooked to perfection.
Yes it's a little bit expensive, but you get what you pay for 10/10 Well Done.
Very well run company, and everything very clean.
임.
It was good as I remember but I am not sure whether I will visit again.
D. L.
I really don't understand all the buzz around this place. Apart from a friendly staff and great service every thing else (the food basically) was very regular and average. I went as far as 3 stars before the pie we had was really not edible, felt like frozen food warmed up with low quality ingredients unfortunately. Fish and chips are good, nothing more. Most street stands are better in my opinion.
I.
Great fish. I highly recommend this place. The staff is very nice and the service was perfect. The beer there is really good too. The chips could be better tho but if you want authentic and affordable fish and chips, this is the place to go!
S. V.
Good food and great service 😃
V.
That dessert was 👌👌👌 would fly back to London just to eat that.
G.
Delicious fish! It was my first time ever going to poppies and I loved the food. I had some fish and chips and they were on point.. The curry sauce there is also very tasty with the fish and chips.. The staff was friendly and I enjoyed the ambiance of the place.
D. S.
A queue outside but didn't take long to get in. After sitting for a few minutes l hailed the server and gave our order. Waited a good 10 or 12 minutes for food but it was worth the wait. The food was good. A nice touch was ketchup and tartare in little pots with lids. Could be slightly bigger. Overall good experience.
R. B.
Tasty fish and chips. Decent portion. Curry sauce was nice. It was very expensive for what it was in my opinion.
Staff were attentive, but not intrusive. The greeter was very polite when seating us.
Beer was served in old fashioned pots, a bonus. Only a couple of beers available, but they were decent.
I. M.
Not a cheap place. They will charge you a service tax. But really good!
H. R.
Located short walk from Camden town tube station. Added benefit of being well sign posted in the high St. It's a classy chippy. You pay a bit more but you get a nice table and attentive service. Food was nice and portions a good size. As mentioned you pay a bit more. £60 for two.
A. C.
The staff were friendly and helpful and we loved the way that they were dressed. The atmosphere was great and the décor really suited the establishment. It made us feel like we were in Grease.
The meal itself was lovely. I must say the best fish and chips I've had in a while, it wasn't swimming in grease, it was beautiful cooked. Real fish and chips which was exactly what we wanted on a nice sunny day like it was.
They even served alcohol there which was a bonus for us, although the cocktails did seem slightly overpriced for what they were, not bank breaking expensive for cocktails but they weren't the best cocktails I've ever had for the price they were. It would have also been nice to see a little variety.
It was more than I would have expected to pay for a fish and chip meal but overall it was a good meal and we did have a good time.
Definitely try the homemade tartare sauce. It was beautiful!!!

An early lunch is sausage and chips for two and a couple of glasses of coke. £18. Service was superb, very professional. Not sure what the place is trying to be thematically bit of a Mish mash but who cares? The food was excellent.
M. Y.
Best fish and chips I've had to date. Nice atmosphere too
D. G.
Lovely food but a little bit on the expensive side
A. L.
Great spot for fish and chips!
Expect a queue like everything else in the UK.
The Fish is crunchy on the outside and melts in your mouth on the inside. Tasty!
Chips are OK, nothing to shout about. But hey, it's all about the fish 😊
I would definitely come back.
D. W.
Great fish and chips. Decor is fun and music adds to atmosphere. Due to takeaway side of restaurant however I had one very cold shoulder as the door was always open.
W. C.
The restaurant features lots of retro and vintage posters and items, so it was an interesting theme for a fish and chip shop. The fish and chips were good, but a tad pricey. (It is a large portion and not dry). Mainly lots of tourists will be onsite, as it's near the Camden Stables Market. As we sat upstairs, the staff don't come up as often, so the service are slower if you are sitting upstairs, and they might be a communication issue on the status of your food and drinks. However, after chatting with some of the locals, they like Poppies as well...
A. C.
Good food, but the tables near the door are cold places to eat.
H. M.
Very nice restaurant rather then a regular chippy. Bit pricey but the fish and chips are fantastically superb certainly brings back memories for me. Served nice and hot great for a cool day. I highly recommend it.
B. B.
Great fish & chips. Staff is nice and friendly!
A. A.
Not my best fish and chips experience in London. It was quite expensive, very crowded and definitely not special. We had the cob fish and chips - which is quite big even in the regular size - and the veggie pie, I couldn't finish it. The decor is quite nice.
M. B.
Great place to have a fast meal and good quality!! You’re gonna enjoy whatever you choose!!
d. d.
The fish is amazing delicious. Love it in there. The staff is amazing friendly and welcoming. Deffo is the best fish and chips i have had.
D. C.
Lovely place but wouldn't like to go back it was very expensive for 4 it was £68
A. L.
Fresh fish. Good portions. Helpful service.
H. L.
This was solidly mediocre. The chips were bland and slightly stale, the fish was over cooked and greasy. I think they are pretty much just living off the name they made for themselves a while back. I would say not worth the visit as there are some really excellent fish and chips places elsewhere.
J.
Great place to eat. Portions are huge and prices are low, and staff is kind and lovely everytime we go. Me and my girlfriend always eat the same, large chips, curry sauce a buttered sausage and a piece of bread and butter, all that for only £7.70 each! I'm really glad a friend of mine recommended me this place, it's amazing.
j. h.
cod fish and chips regular size is enough for one person. And saveloy sausage is a traditionally good one to try. And staff is very kind. 100% recommendable~!! You can see the real review from emiltube....
Y. S.
The food was great. Small food selection on the menu but everything tasted very fresh. The homemade sauses really work well with the dishes. There was live music paying in saterday evening however this music was playing at rock concert volumes making conversations and ordering difficult.
K. Y.
Got the original Fish and Chips platter and was not disappointed, fish was nice and flaky with tons of taste. Chips were nice and crispy. Beer was great, the restaurant had a great retro feel too it.
H. D.
Tasty, big portions, served quickly, good service staff. The price is correct for London, and it's a whole fish that is served, so worth your money. If you want to eat fish and chips definitely go there!
M. W.
Fresh and delicious food. Friendly service!
R. M.
We really enjoyed this restaurant. We got a battered sausage, fish and chips, and a fish cake. They were all tasty. There was live music upstairs which made the atmosphere really nice. A great place to get Britain's most famous dish.
A. N.
It's fish and chips with ketchup in tiny pots. For fifteen quid. But the venue is nice and the staff are the friendliest. It's good date material if not actually the crème de la crème of chippies.
J. C.
Beautiful food cooked perfectly 🥰
O. H.
There are 2 ways to judge a fish and chips. 1) freshness of the fish. 2) the batter it's fried with.
This place has very fresh fish (5 star), however, the batter it's fried with was bland (3 star).
Would I go back? No
The staff was super nice.
Cool atmosphere
n.
excellent service, the manager came after us with a bag we had forgotten when we were already well on our way and around the corner. also great food, i recommend getting the traditional fish and chips
J. S.
The best Fish and Chips! And the Mushy Peas were unexpectedly great.
M.
They have grilled the fish for me instead of frying it!! I really appreciated that ! The fries were delicious 😋
m.
The look of the restaurant plus the service and the delicious food all contribute to a five star rating, the fish was haddock, full of flavor but not too strong for those who aren't quite ready for a strong fish to go with those chips.
A. M.
The best Fish 'n' Chips I ever ate in my life. I know very well fishies and that cod was absolutely fresh with solid consistency, tasty, well cooked, easy to digest. Poppies is always full of people and there is always a queue outside, but it's possible to book his/her name to clerk outside and wait to be called, usually few minutes.
There are 2 sizes: standard, which is the picture I've posted, and big. A mountain of potatoes complete the dish.
There are two floors, the upper one is nice.
Prices are reasonable.
A. M.
Always eat fish and chips here. Food is great, service very good and the location spot on. I wished they would have Whitebait in menu but a generous 3 grilled mackarel fille portion does it for me.
We went to a Friday night live gig and it was awsome.
Thank you
T. D.
Easy and simple : I have been there a few times and I always had a good time. The staff is full of fun, smiling, and dedicated to make you spend a good time.
I also loved the music band who came to play jazz live music.
And by the way, if you want to enjoy a fish and chips, do not hesitate to go there !
c.
Great fish and chips. The portions are not 'local chippy' huge, but the quality of fish was excellent. Batter golden and crispy. Not soggy. The chips were beautifully cooked too. A couple of points though. The poppy's ale is a little bland. Go for Camden pale instead. Finally they have a keyboard player. He is pretty bad. Be warned
G. G.
I had been told mostly positive things about poppies so when I went for lunch with friends, I was expecting good quality food. I had the chicken with chips and unfortunately it didn't live up to the expectation. It was a bit dry and a lot more chewy than I would like it. The service was quite good and served within a reasonable time.
L. C.
We went last Friday night when they had live music, which was great. Retro inspired interior means your eyes are drawn around the room. The food was good too, the fish was very fresh and the batter had a good crunch, and wasn't too greasy as other places sometimes are.
R. W.
Ate here on the evening of Saturday 15th February. There was a great funk / blues band playing upstairs (The Big Smoke Family). Apparently there is live music every friday and saturday night. The food was very good, I've struggled to find decent fish and chips in London but Poppies definitely delivered!! Will be back when I need my fish and chip fix!!
T. G.
I'm not a huge fan of chippies in general, but dining at Poppies is easily one of my deep joys of living in the area.
Cream Soda, a wide range of fish or non-fish to choose from, lovely staff. I remember the first time I went in, the sound of Haley, Bill, and His Comets playing. Great stuff.
Did I mention the Cream Soda? Its really nice, smooth and not too sweet.
H. G.
We were across the street at Old Spitalfields Market when I noticed Poppie's in-market outpost and knew the time was right for a heapin' portion of fish-n-chips. The staff was friendly in orienting us to the menu options and making sure we had a complete selection of lemon and sauces... very good service, I'd say. The fish fry batter was glistening, delicate, and crispy.. the cod was huge, hot, clean, and flakey. The real star is the fish.. the chips were only so-so.
M. L.
Came here with high expectations after hearing about how famous it is. Arrived at 8.30pm and the haddock was sold out. Ordered the cod instead and it was underwhelming. While the fish was well cooked, it wasn't the best I've had. Chips were disappointing - pale and underseasoned. Definitely had better fish and chips elsewhere.
D. V.
I enjoyed my lunch here even though the fish was a little tasteless. I liked the special theme and uniforms the people here wore. The people are also really friendly. The service was also really fast for us, but the couple next to us had to wait a terribly long so it might depend on what you order.
Y. L. T.
Batter was good but fish was really dry. Ordered a large Haddock and had to add on chips at an additional price. Had to pay 40p per sachet of Heinz Ketchup and Mayo. 13£ in total. Feels like there would be much better options elsewhere.
C. R. H.
best fish and chips I've ever had. Music live on Saturday night is great. Service is super efficient and prices are actually low for London.
F. B.
I we went and ordered x2 cod and chips, x2 cokes and x1 pale ale poppies beer
£42!!!!!
Firstly the food is NOT worth this money!
2nd the chips were brownish and should be golden if you wish to maintain a legendary status. The chips were not all that special they are the same as peeling a potatoe at home and cook in olive oil.
The cod however was actually rather nice and well made with salt and lemon juice.
Anyway I will not be returning merely due to the silly prices
F. J. M.
A good place to eat fish and chips in Camden Town. Quite a huge difference in prices between sit down and take away. We paid 18£ more for 3 people to eat the same order inside. The food was good nevertheless! And staff was also very nice and helpful.
R. C.
This time inside in the restaurant. Friendly staff, quick and hustle free ordering. Resist to go for the large portion - the normal is still enough and leaves capacity to enjoy the sweet stuff close by at Camden market.
D. S.
Great fish and chips close to Camden Market. A bit of a tourist trap, with prices to match but there's no denying the quality of the food being served here. Excellent service from the friendly staff. Seating area just a little cramped, but apart from that, very good.
M. G.
After recently visiting Poppies which is one of my favourite chip shops, I was going to give a 3 star rating because I noticed they had increased the price of their chips to £2.70 for a regular portion and £3.20 for large. A sausage is now £2.50! This is astronomical in terms of the local average. There are good reason however, why I decided to go with 4 stars. My 4 star rating is on the generous size but so are poppies portions and the venue, location and staff are great. I do wish the prices reflected the market a bit more but rents in Camden are ever increasing. It’s a shame because I think this will eventually be the undoing of a fabulous brand that enhances Camden’s unique blend of style and culture. Let’s see. In the meantime, get yourself down to Poppies and try their mega homemade fish cakes which are absolutely yummy!
A. M.
Being a Brit through and through, I of course crave a fish and chips every now and then. Recently I felt that desire, burning once again at the pit of my soul, for the soggy sodden chips of a fish and chips shop. I had a Canadian with me and thought, I shall use her never having had a F&C's as an excuse to get my hands on that greasy fried fish I had been lusting after. Off to Poppies we went!
I believe it was the queue outside that drew me in like a moth to a flame, or maybe the scent of things being fried...either way, we were seated in minutes by a very friendly member of staff. The decor is quirky and themed, which I always enjoy. However, we did have dolls nailed to wall right next to my face. It was interesting and memorable.
I wish I could tell you that the food was everything I wanted it to be, but alas. The fish was delicious and cooked perfectly, crisp, not too much batter. But the chips didn't scratch my itch. I was left with a want for Malt Vinegar that only an old local chippy can quench.
I recommend Poppies and will visit again. Bringing F&C's to our highstreets!
P. W. K.
The fish is flaky and soft, cooked through to the core. Perfectly fried with the crispy flavorful batter. The chips is just as good, not oily, and fragrant.
L. G.
Best fish & chips in town
e. m.
One of the best fish and chips to eat in London. Service is fast and good. Prices are good regarding quantity of product in the plate. We enjoy a lot! Thanks! 👍 😊
B. H.
What a fantastic restaurant! When you go to London, you need to eat fish and chips! Poppies brings this to you with high quality and a restaurant with an amazing ambiance. Whe were there on saturday night. A live band was playing. It was very busy, but still enough space and quick service for an affordable price. I wish we had a restaurant like this in the Netherlands.
A. R.
There is no other fish n chip shop in LONDON as good or even better than POPPIES!! I came to the place after February 2020 and it just tastes exactly the same.
R. T.
Lovely traditional Fish & Chip shop. The decor is stunning and the food is amazing quality. Definitely one of the best in London!
S. T.
Visited here for mothers day . Absolutely loved the decor and music playing!! Slighty expensive, i had reg cod & chips which was just under £14 plus £2:60 for a side of curry sauce or mushy peas. The fish and chip portion could have been more generous . The other thing i noticed were the young staff were totally misserable looking and didnt soeak or even had ANY customer service what so ever !!!!! It was very off putting . It would go a long way towards even more better atmosphere for this quaint fish and chips shop .
A. M. M.
I love this place for multiple reasons. One, the food. Their star dish is the fish&chips, simply delicious, served two sauces (tartare and ketchup). Two, the style. It takes you back to the 30's with the decoration and the music. And three, the staff. They are always very gentle and funny. If you wanna have the best fish&chips in London, just come and enjoy.
C. C.
The food wasn't great to be honest. If my rating was based on the food, it would probably only get 1 or 2 stars. The entertainment, however, was fantastic. There was a live swing band who were awesome and the people were really friendly. I would only go back for a drink and to watch the music. If you want good food, go somewhere else. If you want a good time, go here.
M. A.
One of the best fish&chips I've had in London. The decoration inside is great you feel like you go back in time.
I recommend this place
I. R.
It's now a chain and I had previously visited the Soho branch so I didn't hold out high hopes. So I was pleasantly surprised when they were as good as the Soho branch which means they were nothing short of ace. Great British fish and chips , in a nice environment served by friendly staff. What more could you want - answer nothing. If you are in the area and it just has to be fish and chips - go. Highly recomended.
J. Y.
Great tasting food, but service is very slow even though they had three members of staff behind the counter.
k. 7.
Best finish and chips ever with family and excellent location
S. M.
Good location but the food was very average. Quite close quarters to eat in. Staff was great. Fish and chips for lunch for two was 46.00 pds. (Over $60. US). So not cheap.
H. P.
Very tasty fish honestly one of the best in London, also nice interior desig but atmosphere more like in tourist place and sort of robotic service - also very expensive fish and chips. We were lucky and had some live music so extra star for that but donnt like pay so much just for simple dish like that.
w. c.
Tourist Trap. If you have 30 pounds to spare, go for it. Two of our friends recommended it so we went on a Thursday night. The place was kinda empty, which is nice. It’s got a 1950’s theme - the hostesses all wear dotted dresses, there are lots of pin up references and such. We ordered a large fish & chips to share and each got a drink. It was worth trying once, but had I known sooner, I would have preferred spending that money eating at a food cart up the block. At the end of the meal they give you your check with chewy candy (similar to starburst). Interesting concept, but not fully worthwhile.

Best fish n chips in London
N. N.
Always come to poppies when I want fish and chips. Good food, good service, good atmosphere inside. And love the 1940s decor and memorabilia!
H. E.
Absolute favourite fish&chips in the infamous camden market! their service is beyond compare... always friendly faces and just quick service
J. T.
Classic but efficient. Super noisy not because of people but the music is quiet high. Cod fish and chips well served with an individual portion of ketchup and tartare sauce. Nice and polite service.
G. A.
Very nice fish and chips here. Ordered a big one to share and the price is honest. Love the location as well. Very good :-)
K. E.
Staff was lovely. The place is nice. But the food was not excellent : the fish was a bit over cooked and the potato missing some personality. Worth the try especially if you are hungry after 10PM as all the other places around are closed
L. W.
Lovely vibe to the restaurant. Just like everything else in Camden it was a bit pricey. Food was good but not the best fish and chips I've ever had.
J. G.
They do so much right for the tourists ambience wise, but miss a few key notes. Most importantly... What's going on with the fish batter? It was more like a breaded fish than a proper beer batter.
Second... The tartar sauce... Come on guys. For the price I want something proper flavourful. But even standard jarred tartar is better. Easy fix.
The curry sauce, it was ok... But no traditional raisins.
Poppie's HQ, if your kitchen can swing it, how about offering a few different batter styles to choose from? Pepper, lemon peppered, beer batter, breaded.
Pickled eggs and onions appeared to be pickled somewhat fresh in white vinegar or a short bath in malt. But this may be for the tourist trade who would be a bit squeamish eating brown eggs and onions (traditional style)?
Amazed to see jellied eel on the menu. Bonus points for that!
Black jacks and fruit salads (candies) were a nice touch. Staff were very friendly.
Overall, I think it was overated for the price and aimed at tourists. Hit the Ice Wharf nearby for a more standard fish and chips at a better price. Butttt... Come here if you have kids and don't want to be in a pub scene to try some local fare.
R. G.
Had high hopes for the place after reading reviews on Google but sadly, I was let down by the pasty-looking and bland chips. Fish (we had cod because they were out of haddock) was decent but nothing spectacular. The Camden beer on tap was good though.
D. S.
Absolutely delicious fish and chips. Quick friendly service. Decent prices. Definitely recommend. I won't go anywhere else for my fish and chips fix!
L. G.
The recorded music is excellent listening to the recorded songs like Sway. THen the live band came on and it was a din. Next time I'll go early and leave.before they start. They grilled my fish which was great and the dessert apple pie wasn't sickly sweet just right.
V. V.
Excellent service and 50s ambience and the best fish and chips ever. I have been tasting fish and chips for 5 years and the Poppies is the best so far. Ruth was great, a really great asset to the Poppies at Camden
A. H.
Fabulous fish. Possibly the best calamari we've had in London. Love this place xx
G. S.
bit fishy for my taste but batter is great, chips are good. and the littele condiment containers are so cute! also loved the interior.
T. D.
This place...I dunno. It's faux 50s American diner with dry fries and fish which just didn't have all that much flavor. Decent enough if you're just looking for some basic fish and chips and a beer while listening to Buddy Holly, but there must be better options.
B. N.
As proclaimed, the best fish and chips ever had.
The ambience is superb and loved the people and crowd.
Had great fun and enjoyed the food. Ordered Cod Regular, Haddock Regular, Halibut Wild with Mushy Pease. Along with Camden Pale Pint and Camden Hell Pint.
R. H.
Great food and fantastic service! We were in a bit of a hurry and the nice man who seated us made sure he did all he could to get us through as quickly as possible. Brilliant, thanks!
I wasn't expecting the American Diner style, but it was fun and a bit different.
T. W.
Surprisingly good batter on a very small, crumbly, yet edible fish. Chips a little anaemic but acceptable. Pointless, annoying, little jars of sauce.
Sensational complimentary Blackjacks and Fruit Salads with the rather large bill.
H. M. L.
One of best night we had in london was in this pub. The mini show that took place upstairs was really fun, all the customers were dancing, and the waiters even opened a dance floor for us!
I. K.
Great venue, excellent friendly staff and prompt service, and I don't think I've ever had a nicer meal of fish and chips anywhere! Cooked to perfection, not oily, delicious!
D. L. M.
Awesome fish and chip shop. There's a small counter downstairs for take away or eating outside along the canal. The main restaurant is upstairs with a large room perfect also for large groups. There's often music upstairs but the quality and genre varies every day.
D. B.
Excellent fish n chips with really friendly staff and fast service. Not cheap, but good quality. Food not quite as good as their Spitalfields branch though, but definitely roomier with more space to sit.
M. R.
Very fast, friendly service. My partner and I shared a large haddock fish and chips to a live band and had a great experience. We both loved that they were open late.
r. l.
One of the best places in London in which you can eat fish and chips!
J. D.
Very nice chippy - a little expensive but great food
E. A.
I loved the Haddock fish& ship's. The concert was nice too but it was too loud and we just wanted to have dinner. In addition, it is not cheap, and they charge the services apart.
R. B.
Best fish and chips in London. Strongly suggest to go to the Camden venue. It's incredible, nice environment, nice staffs, nice place, not counting the amazing fish and chips. My preferred one is the Abadejo one. So juicy.
P. T.
Great food. Venue a little awkward and cramped. Prices a little high. Some staff absolutely lovely, others in a bit of a rush asking to take my plate when I so much as paused eating for 5 seconds!
J. R.
Finally had a proper fish & chips in London. Cooked perfectly and super crispy. However, the breading is a bit bland and I wasn't a huge fan of their tarter sauce.

A good place to shelter in a rainy day drinking cold ALE beer? and eating typical fish and chips or pies. Friendly service and variety on the menu. Food good. The price more expensive than in other places, and the decoration is between a seafood restaurant and american bar of the 50's
A. K.
Really good Fish and Chips.
Good quality food. Pies are a bit expensive though, at £4.00 and £6.00 a pop.
Really enjoyed myself on several occasions at this venue.

Excellent place, old school decoration - 60s, 70s. Smells SO good, and nice that you want to eat even not being hungry. Fully recommended. Will come back!
e. h.
Take out prices looked pretty normal, eat in area/ restaurant has table service, regular portions were big enough the large portions looked as if I'd have struggled with them, bater was crisp, chips were excelent. Good range of drinks tea, coffee, soft drinks and some thing I've never seen before in a chip shop a licenced bar.
J. B.
Great place for fish & chips! We also brings folks who visit London here because the vibe is fun and the food is great. Diner style and occasionally has live music!
F. B.
Delicious fish and chips in Camden. Their cod is juicy and the sauces are very tasty. The price is a bit higher than other places but it's definitely worth the visit.
N. R.
We were looking for a place to eat the typical fish and chips near Camdem Market and this one was very good. Beautiful place and quality better than expected. The beer was quite good too.
A. C.
Best fish and chips in London 😍
V. V.
One should really try fish and chips here with lemonade.. Its amazing..
M.
Best fish and chips in London. The quality of the food is a big draw for locals and tourists alike, great atmosphere inside and always popular.
L.
Definitely one of the best fish and chip places in London. Staff friendly. Great atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Can't go wrong.
I. A.
Greatest fish & chips I've had
A. K.
Super good fish and chips, the best I've ever tasted! Surely a place where I'll return when I'll be back in London! Big plates and fair prices! A+++!
J. O.
Nice Fish and Chips! Excellent services too !
R. G.
Poppies is truly a quirky and fun fish’n’chips shop. It’s set in the backdrop of Camden Market, which is a true character itself. The place itself is like taking a step back in time to the 1950’s. The memorabilia is fun and original. The staff’s uniform have a 1950s vibe to it, as does the music in the background. Fun, original place. The fish’n’chips is just as good. Likewise the mushy peas and baked beans. Proper English fish’n’chips! Try it!

I tryied traditional English breakfest whuch was really tasty.

Full five out of 5. By far the best Fish and Chips of London! And the camden beer is delicious! On saturday we had live music, it was great fun. Tell all your Friends!!!
G. H.
Good visit, friendly staff. Foods good
k. b.
Nice location and great staff, menu is a bit pricey but you pay for what you get. Great service and when we arrived there was live music, a jazz band, and it was a great atmosphere so couldn't fault it.
M. S.
Best dish and chips in town!
The one in shoreditch is more traditional and has a better experience but this amazing traditional dish served in such a location as Camden is also a great way to spend your meal
S. C.
This place has a pretty good fish and chips. It's a bit tourist trap feeling and the prices reflect that as well. You're better off finding a fish and chip shop near battersea or just off clerkenwell rd.
Y. I.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, best fish and chips I've had in a very long time. Would most definitely recommend and come again!
J. S.
The food and the service at poppies was very good when I and my family went. However, they had live music upstairs and it was impossible to have any conversation at the table as the music was so loud it hurt our ears. The staff had difficulty hearing our order as well. Its a shame as the band were actually very good but let down by a sound engineer wearing a dearstalker hat, covering his ears and a PA system more suitable for Glastonbury.
B. B. K.
Very autentic vibe. Amazing fish and chips , so fresh and devine. The prices are good. Its My second time here . I'll keep coming back for
C. S.
Nice place with the best Fish&Chips I had so far. Friendly and warm service, a definitive must if you are in Camden.
S.
Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Fantastic food. Well priced for the amount and quality. Would recommend to a friend.
B. D.
The place is a bit of a tourist trap. Often there is a huge queue just to get in, the prices are extortionate for what you get and while the food is far from bad, there is nothing special about it. This is fish and chips for people who have never had fish and chips before.
V. G.
Loved the place and the FOOD and the staff,
Food is amazing and fresh def recommend!
M. E. H.
I love fish and chips. Poppie's is a good place to take a break while going abouts Camden. Its cozy. The place is not cramped. The fish and chips are good.
V.
Ordered for take away. It was delicious! One of the best fish & chip places I've had so far.
S. D.
Best fish and chips in town. Definitely recommend. Dont forget to try fish cakes as well. They are lovely.
k.
Friendly service staff. I love the ambience of the place. Their fish and chips are well fried - not too oily too.
A. S.
Quirky chip shop: fish fried to perfection, great mushy peas, slightly let down by only above average chips. Excellent service in eclectic surroundings.
J. H.
Epic good fish& chips. As an American made a point of eating and living UK, was the best of anywhere we found in London.
A. G.
This place was recommended to us by the locals for fish n chips and it did not disappoint. One of the best fish n chips you'd ever have.
D. B.
This is what I like to call pukka. Proppa British grub. Hearty and absolutely floggin' delicious! What more could a man want? And in good old Camden too. I was full when I left and it was worth every penny.
N.
Great fish and chips,,, the best curry sauce anywhere..

Don’t let this traditional British favourite fool you into thinking fish and chips can only be served wrapped in yesterdays news. Poppies in Camden Town serves not only the perfect fish and chips, but a classy dining experience too.
The words ‘award winning’ followed by ‘fish and chips’ will always grab my attention. And that’s quite a feat when you consider the number and variety of cuisine you can choose from around Camden Town.
Greeted by the friendly and smartly dressed front of house, you would be forgiven in thinking the award winning fish and chips was served somewhere else like in the upstairs premises. That was before I clocked the traditional fish counter, glowing majestically in the dimly lit room.
The jukebox, complete with brightly coloured trim, that also greets you upon entrance gives you a flavour of the era Poppies wants to transport you to.
The doo wop croons of days gone by together with the candlelight on your table creates the perfect relaxed atmosphere.
The 1940’s theme is continued when the, also friendly, waitresses came to my table wearing red from top to toe. Think Virgin air stewards but much more elegant. And even the restrooms have old styled toilets!
But enough discussing the 40’s throwback. Lets talk about the fish and chips.
The fish had this wonderful golden brown, crisp coating that made a loud crunch sound every time you cut into it with your knife.
Hiding inside I found a soft and flaky cod that was thick and meaty, almost like-steak, the sign of a quality fish.
I guess chips come down to preference, whether you like them McDonalds thin or McCains thick, but you can’t beat the hand-cut thick variety. Much like their fish, their chips were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside.
Despite demolishing the plate in record breaking time, I could still feel the food envy as passers by looked in. That’s what happens when you decide to choose a window seat! I reckon I drew in a handful of customers because they saw my delicious plate and my huge grin as I tucked in!
The last little surprise came in the form of a mini frying basket when you ask for your bill – cute!
The best fish and chips in Britain? I can’t find any faults to suggest otherwise.
Poppies also have a restaurant and take away in Spitalfields while they also host a number of live music events and gigs – #fishngigs! Check out Poppies menu for pies, jellied eels and more!
L.
I did not find the food very good, the fish did not have much favour and the chips bit soggy. However, nice atmosphere and friendly staff, but i wont go back as for me the food is the most important.
p. c.
Very friendly staff, tasty fish and chips and reasonably priced.
A. W.
Amazing place! Good food (I suggest fish and chips) service is very very very fast! Staffs are so friendly and the place is so cozy with very nice songs!
A. T.
The best fish and chips in London! Nice size, generous even, portion of cod and properly cooked chips - really nice.
N. K.
Good fish and chips for reasonable price. Sometimes you have to wait a bit to get seated but it's not too bad.
J. C. S.
Delicious battered sausage and chips to take away and enjoy whilst walking to the tube or bus home after a few drinks. Traditional British flavour, lovely venue and nice staff.
T. “. R.
Came here last year too it's still just as delicious. Very attentive staff who helped to know which fish was which in Spanish. A bit short on desserts options, though.
L. G.
Old stylish, super cozy, 60s style place with old stylish music box, music and interior. Food is delicious. The place is crowdy, because everybody likes it, but if you're in a hurry, there is take away behind the entrance. It is tight in space and loud place, but that actually makes me feel back in moving and alive 60s even more.
C. D.
Best Fish and Chips in London by a mile!! Also they had a really good jazz/blues band playing live, which created a really great atmosphere!!
S. B.
Great food and staff and it is in Camden, near the tube station, there was a fabulous band entertaining you all night for no extra cost, and i loved it! Simply order fish and chips and a beer.
מ. ג.
Nice place, very tasty fish & chips, kind waiters. Although it took a while for the dish to come to our table.
F. “. G.
The chips fresh fish is fresh the place is clean very polite and friendly lovely place very expensive!
J. F.
Great service. Great fresh food
F. R.
Great fish and chips, and amazing style.
The service is friendly but may seem a bit cold sometimes.
T. “. S. A. B. M.
If your look for the fiah and chips expirience this is the place, case if your not into fish you can try the chicken and chip. It's a bit pricy but the food is real good
M. S.
Fast and friendly. However, when we ordered a tea after dinner, we got a pot without asking and were charged almost twice the price of that of a cup. Not customer friendly.
B. B. D.
Amazing Fish and Chips as always but customers service was incredible.
Thank you for your hospitality.
P.s The life band was extraordinary
C. C.
Good food and lively atmosphere in busy Camden Town. Service was prompt, the fish was crunchy on the outside, hot and flaky on the inside.
K. O.
Great cod and chips, although for takeaway, there’s no sauce automatically provided.
E. G.
Food was great. The best service I received was when I walked in and when we left. They seems to be in hurry to do both. Taking our order or checking on us was an other deal. They seemed to skip that part of training.
J. A.
Nice fish and chips. Got a take away but the restaurant looks nice. Gets very busy.
K. K.
One of the best fish and chips in London and the best in town. It was my first cod and chips in London, I loved it and still visit it every time I'm in Camden.
M. B.
Nice, but small piece of fish
M. W.
Average fish, chips were bland. Very overpriced for what you get. Great location, very friendly staff. A good experience, but you can do better for the price.
M. S.
Reliable place for good fish and chips! Friendly staff and good service. Would recommend it to anyone looking for fish and chips in the Camden area.
L.
A very good fish and chips in a nice place. Great service. Poppie's beer also good to drink!
T. C.
Super friendly staff. Greats you at the door! The best fish and chips I was able to find during my visit
A. H.
We tried the typical fish and chips and it was delicious! Big portions, noisy dining hall upstairs, super nice waitresses.

G. I.
I just wanted chips in the evening in Camden and they provided.
Fantastic service and amazing chips. A bit biased because it was very cold and the chips definitely warmed me up!
o.
Heart warming hospitality and delicious food
F. D.
fish and the chips are tasty..but I havr been in this country long enough to understand that this dish comes with peas..and they charge it extra..if you wanna experience proper fish and chips do not come here go to a pub..please!!...
M. M.
Full marks for traditional English dish. Service was five star. Staff full of smiles and willing to help
I look forward to my next visit.
K. L.
Good food, even for a fish and seafood allergic like me. Ģoing to a fish n chippie and excpecting a huge non seafood menu is stupid. But these guys had enough and tasty it was.
G. L.
Great food and quick service 😀😀😀😀
W. B.
Some technical problems in the kitchen, but solved with EXCELLENT customer service by Charlie.
A. G.
Traditional Fish and chips very tasty, freshly cooked and not at all greasy. Live music on a Friday made it fun.
M. J. I.
Was Good Eating Fresh Fish and Chips Hard to bet but 1 ! That would be the Challenge ! Down in Old Hastings Very close tie !
