Reviews of Punjab Restaurant
D. S.
Showed up for a walk-in, late after attending a West End show. Was intrigued with it being the oldest Panjabi restaurant in the UK. Turned out to be a great family meal. We're used to better in the Midlands, but this was definitely the best meal I've had in London so far.
D. P.
This was one of the better Indian restaurants I’ve been to. The food was just the perfect amount of spice. Wide selection of vegetarian food. The only complaint was that you have to pay separately for the rice, but it wasn’t too bad. I highly recommend the cheese naan. Overall, I would definitely go back.
G. N.
Been here few times and I get surprised every time. Very calm and familiar atmosphere, super clean and tidy, food is delicious and excellent presentation. If you're in Central London and looking for a great culinary experience, this place is for you. 10 out of 10

Simply my favourite restaurant in London. The food is amazing, the place is super nicely decorated with old photos and information about the place and the staff is very polite. My go-to food is always lamb korma and cheese naan... No other restaurant is as delicious as Punjab. Thank you for all the times you've fulfilled my expectations!
S.
Every dish was delicious. My friends and i tried vegetarian dishes as well as lamb and chicken. Every mouthful was exquisite. The waiters were so helpful, kind and so nice. This is the 2nd time i've been here and would recommend this place time and time again.

Looking for Indian - Punjabi food with nice spice?? Search ends here. I been here many times and always the best. Sometimes there is lineup to get in. Amazing food, staff, location.
V. B.
One of the best Indian restaurants in the city I have ever tried. Tastes amazing. Place is super cozy. Staffs are polite and helpful. Authentic punjabi dishes. One of the oldest Indian restaurants. Was direct walk-in and was surprised and fulfilled our expectations. Will be go to restaurant whenever I’m around Covent garden.

Punjab is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in London! Each time I'm in town, I go there for dinner and I'm never disappointed.
The food is amazing, special mention to the cheese naan and the Butter chicken! All the dishes I tried were so good!
k.
Decent spread of food. Enriched my soul bite after bite, however the mint chicken curry was a slight disappointment as it was underwhelming as we couldn't taste the mint. I would recommend the king prawn curry.
Z. I.
This is the best Indian restaurant I have been to in London. The food is great, the staff are very polite, the atmosphere is nice and the location, very close to Covent Garden station. The menu has many options for vegetarians and non vegetarians. I loved the old pictures on the walls.
M.
If you want a great classic curry, this is the place. Wonderful food and their Madras is quiet spicy but very tasty.
Great and fast service.
P. C.
My wife and I have struggled to find great Indian food since moving from the UK to the US. We've found ok Indian but nothing close to the level we were accustomed to having lived in the UK for years.
We found this restaurant on Google Maps and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed.
They have a wide selection of different types of mains and we were both able to find something to our liking. I went with the Chicken Madras and it was amazing. It was full of flavor with a nice level of spiciness to suit.
If you're in the area and want some excellent Indian cuisine I would recommend you visit this place.

This is amazing !!!!!!! It was our first time visit this place and It was delicious to the point that we ordered extra curry and nan. Will definitely go back.
I normally do not leave reviews but this place I have to log in and write the review to support you guys. Thanks to both back of house and front of house. You made our day. 😊😊

Oh guys, this is simply the best Indian restaurant in London!!
The oldest in Britain, from 1946!!!
The place is full of history, pictures of the big family are all over the dining room.
Clean and tidy, staff is amazing, polite and kind!
But let's talk about the food.
Had a mint chicken, spicy lamb and cheese naan. Meat was juicy, tasty, simply delicious.
Good balance of spices, and lamb wasn't dry.
If you want to eat proper Indian food, this is the place to go in.
Highly recommended.
S. C.
Fantastic place to enjoy authentic and delicious North India food. Welcoming place with a homely feel. Be sure to read their history on the back of one of their menus.
P. T.
Indian food is usually always a good choice for vegan diners and the oldest Punjab restaurant in London has some great vegan choices. We enjoyed the vegetable biriyani, which was a little spicier than some we've tried, Bombay aloo, a chickpea curry and a subtlety sweet pumpkin curry. Excellent service and truly delicious.
J. T.
The food was brilliant. Butter chicken was the best. The Indian dessert was very impressive. Very good service.
G. S.
Food was amazing and so tasty! I have been to many Indian restaurants and this one is one of the best, both in terms of variety of food offered and the quality of the food itself. The staff very nice and welcoming. Moreover the location it's amazing as it is situated in Covent Garden, central London.
Highly recommended.
M. B.
Just had the most delicious dinner here. The line outside moves super quickly, so don’t let that deter you from stopping in. The food was absolutely fabulous and so quick! Cheese naan is not to be missed. I had the baigan and would recommend it. My mom had the butter chicken and was really pleased, as well. Delicious!
D. K.
Very tasty and authentic Indian! Butter chicken was the best I’ve ever had and the sauce was amazing to dip Naan in. The garlic naan had generous amounts of sliced garlic and was irresistible. Methi gosht lamb was so tender and juicy and such a crave able sauce. Attentive service and timely. If you’re looking for low key authentic Indian this is definitely the place.
H. M.
The food was good!
We had the samosas to start. Then we had the Chicken tikka special (they burn it at the table with brandy!) and the acharri mutgha (quite spicy by the end!).
We also had the bullet naan, cheese naan, and pilau rice.
The cheese naan was really good!

The best Punjabi food. The best restaurant in central London. You will not find a better Indian Punjabi restaurant like this. This is 5 star better that all them Michelin reataurnts. Great food. Love and respect to Punjab reataurnt for all their charity work too. Great guys.
K. S.
The chicken tikka masala tasted more like a tomato soup. The mint chicken curry was pretty good though
J. W.
Like this place. Good food and good service at a reasonable price considering the location. They work on turnover, so food comes quite quickly, but still tasty. There is a reason why they have been here for so long!
P. L.
Great food, full of flavour! I had the Pudina Gohst for my main course (lamb), and it was amazing. Very tender pieces of lamb with a mint flavour, but just right and not too overpowering.....perfect in fact. Perfect location as well about 10 mins walk from Covent Garden, but worth every step!
R. S.
Amazing food and service, highly recommended
B. A.
Fantastic restaurant! My favorite in London, and I have been a regular visitor for the last 10+ years when visiting from Norway. Excellent food and superb service.
J. J.
One of the best and most authentic Indian restaurant in London. Great taste, very friendly staff. Things to not miss out on - Grandad's house black daal, Vegetable kofta, Bullet naan and Rasmalai(in Dessert). Do try their poppadum and the different chutneys served with them.
A. P.
Not an authentic Indian restaurant. Food is full of coloring. Service was good. You would expect better quality given the history.
R. N.
I love visiting this restaurant.
Authentic Punjabi food they offer and many varieties of dishes. My personal favourite is Butter Chicken.
T. C.
The interior is truly fantastic - all the photos on the walls make it feel really magical. Come here if you want an intimate setting, tended to by very professional, prompt and kind staff. The tables and interior layout make for a very nice restaurant. The flaming tandoori is really fun to order.
The only downside is that the food lacked some spice. If you are a die-hard curry fan, this place may be a little light on the flavour front. I imagine this has been done to reflect the general clientele's palate, so fair enough. But it did cost some stars for that reason.
M. M.
Sorry to not write before but it was quite slow service and the flavors were too generic. I was really hoping to have some better flavors in the kofta instead of the blandness of its gravy. I hope things will get tastier and will have more of a slight punch of even a little spice would make it better.
D. S. R.
I loved the food and the staff was very polite. I recommend it to everyone who loves Indian food.
S. M.
Excellent service our curries were very tasty especially the lamb one that my husband had xx
B. S.
Service was really nice.
We ordered vegetarian food. Food was not out of the world and it was not disappointing as well. Overall a pleasant experience.
P. W.
We stopped off for a quick lunch and weren't disappointed. Delicious food, attentive service and at a decent price for central London. Will definitely be back.
S. F.
yum yum YUUMM!! Very comfortable interior and the food is excellent. Best naan I've ever had. They have traditional Punjabi dishes that are to die for, so try something other than your usual Indian "go to" while you are here. Service is very friendly and hospitable, and prices are fair. Will be back 100%.
G. N.
Excellent Indian restaurant. The food is amazing and the service is very efficient. The prices are good too, especially for the area. Will definitely be coming back in the future.
R. S.
A nice place to have a proper North Indian dinner, the waitress are moving extremely fast and are friendly and handy. About the food I would give a 3.5 to 4 from 5 stars I had some lamp plus a few other dishes, it was tasty but a little bit to spice for my taste , even the sweet kitchen was spice, but I believe this chief choice. P.S the curry was magic.
N. E.
The Indian restaurant not to be missed. A few steps from Seven Dials, Neil’s Yard and Covent Gardens. This is a landmark Indian restaurant and its just very very good. Prices are reasonable and service is first rate! We will return! Wanted to show more of the food but we ate it too fast 🤣
M. S.
Visited here with my girlfriend after a recommendation from a friend. We were not disappointed as the food was delicious and the portions were filling. We had the chicken wings, poppadom, pahalwan amar's mint chicken, baigan, karahi paneer, kadu sabji, butter naan, pilau rice. The service was polite & efficient and the restaurant was nicely decorated. Will certainly return.
K. V.
I had Karahi Paneer with two butter naans for 16+£ the taste was good, quantity of paneer could have been better but none the less a good place to dine in except for the steep prices-could be because of its location.
N. N. (.
A good place for Indian lunch!
a.
Very nice place with friendly staff. Nice ambience. Food is clean and tasty. Me ,my husband and my nine year old daughter visited after visiting British museum. Adequate portion sizes. We ordered chicken korma, mutter paneer, pilau rice and chicken biriyani with naan. Fir dessert we ordered halwa. Yummy food. Will definitely recommend it to my friends and family and visit another day. 😊

This was our first time eating at The Punjab and I'm so glad we did. The restaurant was an absolute delight. Great intimate atmosphere, family pictures and the restaurant story on the back of the menu really added to the family feel of the restaurant.
My one year old daughter was having an off day, she cried and screamed and everything in between. The staff were absolutely wonderful in helping us entertain her. She was even offered a lolly. Thank you for your understanding and kindness.
The food was delicious, especially the paneer butter masala. It was incredibly delicious. We will definitely be returning again and again when visiting London. Great to know it's also none halal for any meat eaters.
P. J.
Tasty food, friendly staff.
Visited again. Delicious food. Friendly staff

Have liked this place for decades. Good N Indian / Punjab food. Great dishes (like the pumpkin!). Top staff, great attitude. Sadly now discovered by the drunk after work office crowd, and the seating density is not sensible in post COVID times without much better ventilation. Go only when quiet!
L. W.
I ordered the chicken tikka masala, as it's considered one of the national foods of the UK, lamb goshti, garlic naan and bulleit naan. The chicken tikka masala was a little too lemon-y for me and bulleit naan was spicier than expected. Overall, my favorite part of the meal was the lamb goshti.
I definitely prefer Dishoom in regards to food, atmosphere and service, even if I had to wait longer for a table.

We have been to this restaurant for the last 4 years. To celebrate my birthday but this year we were really disappointed.
The restaurant staff are great and efficient in serving everyone. As it is one of the busiest restaurants in covent gardens. As it's one of the oldest Punjabi places in the London.
We queued outside for a short while but that's not too bad as they have external heating and a canopy to keep you dry.
The disappointing thing on this occasion is the food.
The rice and nan were fine but we ordered a Chicken Jalfrezi and it came out with the chicken pieces cold and the sauce hot. So we sent it back and got another one. But it tasted so bland it didn't taste like a traditional Punjabi dish at all.
We complained to the manager or I believe him to be a manager as he had a blue shirt on and the others wore polo shirts.
He said thats a shame and we can't have that and that he will sort it.
I don't know what he meant by that but I had all ready finished my meal and my wife couldn't eat the Jalfrezi and left it.
The waiter cane to collect the dishes and we told him also that the jalfrezi wasn't any food also.
We asked the manager for the bill. To find that that still charged us for the curry which we returned once and never eat the replacement. But as it was my birthday I didn't want to ruin the evening any more. So just paid the bill. But I would have expected a restaurant with this level of reputation and that we drove from the Midlands to come here to celebrate my birthday they would have provided better customer service. So that was disappointing.
Although they did come out with a complimentary ice-cream with a sparkler in it singing happy birthday. So it wasn't a total car crash of an evening.
I am not sure if the business has changed hands or they have a new chief but they seriously need to quality assure what the chief is sending out to its customers. As I have had better microwave Chicken Jalfrezi meals. Which is a shame as this this is a great place or used to be and could be again if they sort the issue with the food.
My wife won't come back again which is a shame as it ha been a tradition for us to come here every time we come to London.
If you found this review and pictures benificial please like.

Absolutely fantastic service from all staff
Very quickly seated and very good food. Worth a visit.
Have now been here twice, I have to say this is some of the best service received by all staff. Attention to every detail. Once again, food was fantastic.
M. G.
Such an amazing restaurant full of history and love for food and family. It was the first time for me and my friend in there and it was a delightful experience. The food was just delicious, an exploration of flavours in the mouth for every bite. Nevertheless, the service was outstanding. Since it was our first time in there, we were assisted on the choice of the food. We didn't wait too long to start eating and the waiter was making sure everything was fine all the way through our dinner. We are still impressed. This place is highly recommended!!!
P. D.
One of the best Indian food I have ever had. The sabjis are exceptional. The ambiance is simple and plain but the food incredible. You will definitely not want to stop eating as the flavor of gravy makes a special place in your heart. The paneer is great and the chicken is marinated perfectly. Overall this is a must go to place in London.
Y. G.
Traditional Indian/Punjabi restaurant with good selection of dishes. Went their twice and tested a large selection of dishes. Appetizers were good (samosas) and good (lamb kebab - very different from what I expected). Rice was forgetable, chicken achari good, and lamb madras unfortunately just spicy with spicy with spicy - not much additional flavor. Nit: I liked their humor on their menu, e.g., how their kebabs was invented by "a skilled chef for a toothless maharaja".
I. M.
Busy place with very good food and fast service just hundred steps from The Seven Dials Square.
Waiters exhibit special nice attitude, Goan-style :)
Reservation absolutely recommended, but you can always try to take a queue.
Our check was at 25-30 GBP per person for food and beer. It is not an inexpensive place.
I. C.
Delcious Indian food, a wide selection of dishes, excellent currey and a great dessert. As expected, superb service. Came in on 22:00 after a show, an hour before closing, and got a table without waiting on queue.
I. A.
Delicious food & great service. Food quality is very good.. plenty of choices of amazing Indian meals. Staff services was amazing & very friendly
E. B.
Was a great delight! Found on google maps around me, very friendly staff, very informative about dishes, fast time to table but still very fresh! Go grab some samosas!
T. Y. T.
Excellent Indian food as expected from this long time favorite.
The dishes are prepared and cooked to just the right temperature and consistency. They use plenty of quality seasoning without oversalting the food. The colors pop out with aesthetically pleasing palette.
Butter chicken is a must have. Smooth, rich, mild and tender. Who can resist?
Sweet lassi is a perfect beverage to wash down the meat and rice.
Tandoori king prawns sizzle and dazzle. I should've ordered more.
Come early and often to get a table. Reserve a table if you don't want to wait in the cold.
J. T.
My go to place when in London for great Indian cuisine.
D. W.
Love this restaurant. Being going there for over 20 years. Never disappointed, and Mr Maan is a legend!
H. M.
Great dishes, especially vegetarian options.
p. m.
This place is great. It was my daughter's first experience with Indian food, after catching a showing of Matilda. Service was amazing, and food was perfectly seasoned and very tasty.
They do a good job, keeping the tables moving so even during the theater rush, give them a shot. Wait times will not be too bad.
E. S.
Went for dinner and was seated upstairs. Ordered the Amritsari chole (chick peas), makhani paneer, saag paneer, and butter naan. The food came very quickly and was good overall. Portion sizes were just as the menu stated, not too big or small. The paneer dishes were very mild and could use a bit more flavour, but tasted good. The chole was mildly spicy too and had a nice tomato based flavour.
A. M.
I enjoyed the food but I was expecting it to be extra special as the oldest punjab restaurant in the UK. The service was good the food was nice, a touch on the pricey side but overall enjoyed it. It just doesn't have that wow factor.
C. A.
Punjab is an intimate little restaurant conveniently located to the theatre district. It was very busy when we visited, and the layout is cramped. I would not recommend for a quiet or romantic meal because the atmosphere is the polar opposite- you are squeezed so close to neighbouring tables that it's difficult to have quiet conversation. For a casual quick meal though we enjoyed ourselves.
I got a call just as we sat down to our table informing me that we had less time to eat than we'd planned for. To their credit the staff took our orders quickly, filled them in record time and presented us with tasty, filling food without breaking stride. I actually had enough time left over to enjoy another glass of wine, the efficiency was faultless and we made our show with time to spare.
C. B.
PROS
Customer service was good
Ambience was excellent
Flavor of paneer butter masala was EXCELLENT
the Pailau Rice was wonderfully seasoned
CONS
The Karabi Paneer was ok. Nothing special
When I came in they sat me way in the back. I was the only one there while ALL the other customers were in the front. There were open tables in the front.
I was seated in the back and then asked to be moved to the front. It would have been very boring to sit by myself in the back and eat
Overall
I do plan to visit again and try their other dishes
P. S.
Always delicious. Very homely taste of black lentils. But the last time I visited them I suffered from a very bad abdominal pain and bloating. Would suppress my desire to visit again now unfortunately.
M. B.
Food OK. Real Punjabi food? Hardly. Just a decent curry place I would say. Busy, full. Waiter impatiently wanted me to order everything in one OK - they seem to focus on pushing through as many people as they can? I had to ask for papadum, too (not sure why). Food was OK. Atmosphere too. Not inexpensive.
R. M.
We ordered Veg.food. very good, reasonably priced, £66 for 3x of us including soft drinks and one portion of desert. On the downside was the pickle that was horrible with the stale smell of oil. Also when you say optional service charge ,10% amounting to £6.6 should not be included in the bill and should be left to the discretion of the customer. I found the takeaway that they served when I was force quarantined in President Hotel, near Russel Square to be even better both in quality and quantity..overall not a bad experience.
N. B.
To be honest, was a little let down by the food at this place. We travelled from the other end of the city hoping to get authentic punjabi flavours.
Ordered ‘kadu puri’ for the entree which tasted great, but ‘kaali daal’ and ‘saag paneer’ were a let down. They just did not have enough flavour, and the saag paneer tasted like boiled spinach with fried paneer cubes.
The service itself was great though.
Hopefully the other dishes taste a bit more authentic on the next visit.
P.s. do suggest ordering the bullet naan
R. L.
We walked by this restaurant and decided to give it a try, because there was a long line up (at least an hour) at the other one we planned to go… and we are very lucky to find out this India restaurant is as good, friendly staffs and their foods are so yummy that we kept order more…
A. S.
Some of the best Indian food I've tried in London. Love the flavours of each dish we tried.
D.
It was alright, ordered through deliveroo (was pretty quick)
Had the cheese naan(wasn’t bad) and the butter paneer and chicken korma (a bit toot spicy, otherwise alright but I’ve had better)
S. K.
Tasty food, attentive and friendly staff, good value for money for the location. Can be very busy so if you're a walk in you may struggle to get a table without waiting.
M. H.
Very nice restaurant... but if you are a true Desi... take your own chilli sauce... they don't have any... not even in the back.🙏
C. M.
Great Food and service. Try restaurant specialities it has awesome authentic Indian taste. Chicken briyani disappointed me other than that everything was perfect 👌
E.
The best and the oldest Indian restaurant in the UK! I brought many of my friends from the US over here and they all love it. It's affordable, original, and delicious! The service is great too, with lots of seatings. Highly recommended for a memorable Indian dining experience in London.
t. g.
Myself and a pal had a very late lunch it was it was a superb way to round off the afternoon presenting my Barts ( Hospital) Radio show
F. J.
Very high quality Indian food. My wife had chicken tikka masala. It was different from what we are used to in the United States but was very good. I had acharri murgha, which was the best Indian dish I've ever eaten. We also had paneer pakora as an appetizer, which was tasty. Definitely worth a visit.
D. M.
Absolutely top quality Punjabi restaurant, food is superb and service attentive. Highly recommended. One of my favourite places.
A. L.
Went there with a Punjabi girl and damn did she know what to order food flavour was on point ese. They even lit one of the fooking dishes on fire right in front of us absolute madness!!!🔥🔥🔥.
I. H.
Excellent food and excellent service, would highly recommend to anyone who like a good curry.
M. V.
I must say ‘Old is Gold’. Punjab Restaurant preserves the real taste of Indian food at the heart of London with excellent staff. I would certainly visit here every month until my stay in UK.
S. O.
My most favourite restaurant in London, hands down. The servers are very friendly. The food is so consistent, and is just as amazing every time. I wish to be back in London just to eat here! There usually is a little wait time, but it is so worth it.
M. N.
We like this restaurant so much that we ate there twice during our visit to London. The lamb biryani is fabulous. Try the butter chicken. Number 43 is also delicious.
G.
Some of the best indian food I have ever eaten. The picture was after we started eating(sorry) but we got the samosas, butter chicken, garlic naan, and chicken Tikka masala. All of it was delicious the service was fast as well.
N. K.
The best butter chicken in Britain hands down. REAL butter chicken. Not that fake sweet/coconut stuff. Real authentic Punjabi butter chicken.
A. W.
First of all this restaurant was extremely busy and looks like it has a large number of regular customers so my view is obviously not shared by everybody! I would say all in all an average experience. The decor is ok and some nice historical photos and posters on the wall. The service and waiters are all very efficient and friendly. The restaurant is very brightly lit which takes away from the atmosphere I think, as the place is very busy. The food for me was towards bland. The pilau rice was presented very plainly and tasted as such . The curries seemed to lack levels of flavour I have tasted at other places. Also the menu although certainly not limited didn't have a lot of the dishes found elsewhere.
M. U.
Found this place quite by accident on a business trip. Have been back several times since. The Lamb Korma is delicious. The service is very food and it has a great atmosphere. I think it’s a family owned business and has mementos from the past as decoration. Every time I know sometime coming to London from the US, I recommend this place abs they love it too
L. H.
Food was super tasty, good sized portions and the staff were very attentive - they even gave me extra chillies in my curry when I asked for it! They also knew we were celebrating an anniversary so they brought out some ice cream with a sparkler which was very cute! Will definitely be returning.
S. Q.
Great food! Nice waiters, quite affordable for a restaurant, portion sizes could be slightly bigger
A. S.
Butter chicken was good with low salt. Salt lassi was good too. Service was quick.
G. B.
Punjab is a special place. I've been coming here for years. Always top quality food and service. You will never be disappointed!
C. W. W.
One if the old guards of London's curry houses. Punjab has been serving curry in the heart of London for generations and till this day are still serving the same great curries Brits enjoy. Service was friendly and fast no reservations allowed so all parties must arrive at the same time. It gets very busy so go early or prepare or wait.
The food was great not too spicy just enough to excite your palette. The portions are standard, I recommend trying the typical tikka masala and garlic naan combo.Mango lasso is super refreshing. Really had a great meal for a good price.
s. w.
Great food, love the history of the business and all the photos on the walls
L. E.
Fantastic butter chicken and tikka masala. It has a smoky flavor reminiscent of chipotle peppers. We ordered the Grandad’s dhal curry and a lamb curry as well, with butter naan and rice. Mango lassi was very big and tasty. We were greeted by the owner, who was very helpful and gave us recommendations since it was our first time.
E. F.
Amazing food! good sized potions and in a great location in Covent Garden, staff a little rushed but good price for the food
M. N.
The food was simply the best Indian I've had so far. The butter chicken is amazing and so were all the other dishes. Make sure u get a seat away from the aircondition as this can spoil the fun a bit. Staff is friendly and the food comes quickly.
D. K.
I had a great time at this place. The Achari Gosht was a delight to have. Kaddu Puri and Mango Lassi are also delicious choices if you are here.
P. K.
Second visit with 3 stars: I have to a bit lower the rating after my second visit. I had the same dishes that I had in my first time but unfortunately now they were not as good. I asked to have them very very spicy but they were just moderate. Also the portions seemed smaller than in my first visit. And their katchumber salad is not really katchumber but overpriced minced iceberg lettuce together with some cucumber and carrot. However, I will visit in the future again, hopefully with the same quality that I experienced in the first time.
First visit with 4 stars: i had very pleasant experience here. The atmosphere is calm and friendly, the service is excellent and the food absolutely delicious. They have plenty of vegan options and they are willing to make the dishes spicier if you wish. Everything is fresh and well made.
I would love to give full five stars but even if the food was well seasoned in general, it was slightly too salty, and that was taking over other flavors. I believe if there would have been less salt, all the other flavors would have had much more space and taste would have been wonderful. Hope that will be the case in the future since salt is quite overpowering. But yet, already now, they were very good in general.

I’ve never been disappointed by Punjab. Literally the most amazing Indian food I’ve ever had. The butter chicken and chicken korma are especially good. The mango lassi is one of the best I’ve ever had.
B. M.
Never been there before, found out the restaurant is easy to locate. The food we ordered was awesome. Staffs service are amazing. I would definitely visit again and recommend others.
S. C.
The Punjab is the best curry house in the West End. Top food and service and characterful decor.
L. A.
One of the best places for Indian food in London by far, but also just a wonderful place for good food in general. I've ended up trying a number of different dishes here and never been disappointed by the quality and flavors - especially since so many Indian places in England have an odd penchant for easing up too much on spiciness and making everything sweet. Not Punjab, thank goodness! The staff are also very professional and polite. Can't wait to eat here again soon.
V.
Excellent Indian food.
S. Z.
Absolutely tasty!! Service is great!! They really care about the hygiene currently so I feel comfortable to eat in😬 Now I can understand why the reviews are fab
P. B.
We dined on a Thursday night around 7:00 pm and the place was packed. No complaints about the service, and my companions, as with most reviewers enjoyed their meal. I'm afraid I found the food rather bland and not particularly well prepared. I've been eating Western and authentic Indo/Paki cuisine since 1966 and this was not up to par. West End prices.
S. N.
The food here is great but servers seemed to rush us even though there were plenty of empty tables.
D. K.
Some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had, plus very friendly service. The samosas and garlic naan were wonderful. The madras chicken was so flavorful and actually spicy (as someone who regularly orders the hottest thing on the menu and is rarely impressed).
D. D.
Outstanding food and service. Easy to understand why they have regular customers from all over the world. Thank you. We were made feel welcomed.
Z. D.
The dishes were delicious and at a reasonable price. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The restaurant has A/C and it's very very quiet. Nice place to enjoy a calm lunch or dinner. Hope to be back soon
G. J.
Came here 30 years ago when I worked around the corner. Now only visiting London as a tourist and this restaurant is still as good as it was then. Highly recommend and will definitely call back next time.... hopefully not quite as long between visits though!!
A. V.
We went in here as there is much history to this place as being the oldest ever Indian restaurant in London. To know that they have been in business for so many years, we were intrigued to give this place a visit. We ordered their specials - tandoori chicken , butter chicken masala with garlic naan. The tandoori chicken was good and that's about it. Butter chicken was nothing extraordinary. Service was good overall. I am a south Indian who lives in the USA. I have had punjabi food innumerable times and from the best of the best restaurants in close proximity I.e. SanFrancisco Seattle and Vancouver. This was nothing compared to any of those restaurants. The food was bland and dint have any flavours one would expect in a punjabi dish. Was disappointed at the end of the affair.
C. R.
Very tasty, perfectly cooked chicken tandory !
R. S.
Fantastic food, in particular the chicken 65 ! Customer service is always great
j. v.
Great punjabi food with a wide range of curries and tandoori. The food came incredibly quick (5 mins) even though it was a busy Thursday night
R. R.
Exquisite.. try it even if you think you don't like food from India
h.
Always love coming here. Prompt service and the waiters speak hindi and punjabi too. The daal is great and recommended. Has some great decor too. Authentic Punjabi north indian cuisine.
P. L.
Great place, fantastic food, price that does not kill (30 gbp for dinner and desert for 1). We were seated quickly despite arriving without reservation on friday night, even though the line was long. Highly recommended.
A. J.
While in London we knew we had to have Indian food. I learned about Punjab from a list of the best places to have chicken tikka masala. It was a little different from what I was used to but still delicious! My husband got the acharri murgha and wow, was that amazing!
K. M.
We visited this place. Very tasty food we ordered village daal maki was tasty and veg kofta spicy but amazing garlic naan was lovely . Very tasty. Very lively atmosphere. Lots of birthdays which made it even more exciting. Worth visiting and not over priced.
C. J.
Evening meal on 12 July 2021. This was our first trip away since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. We had promised ourselves that once it was safe and sensible we’d go to The Punjab. It was also our wedding anniversary. Needless to say we felt safe and secure (social distancing was in place, track and trace, masks etc.) The food was fantastic, every bit as good as we remembered and exactly the treat we’d looked forward to for so long. And they even gave us a free dessert as it was our anniversary! Thanks to the team at The Punjab. Hopefully it won’t be another 15 months before we’re back!
J. C.
Always great food. Sometimes you have to wait a while and outside so try to go early. No reservations. Highly recommend their lamb specialty.
E. M. J.
I recommend this carrot-coloured bean soup (I had no idea I was ordering a soup 😅); but FYI the soup was really spicy 😉🐲
A. M.
Taste speaks for itself, Excellent food, great helping staff dishes are customized as per your need.
D. L.
We were staying in the Covent Garden area and felt like having Indian food for dinner. Delicious curries and mango lassi. Waiter was helpful suggesting dishes and customer service was excellent.
D. F.
Excellent food and service at very reasonable prices. Staff brilliant and attentive
A. G.
Enjoyed the experience as well as the food - two thumbs up!
j. w.
A “tourist” restaurant by all metrics, but the food is delicious. A little over priced from their peers on Drummond Street or Brick Lane. Also, no wifi.
B. J.
Great Punjabi food. I loved the chicken korma and the cheese naan. As an Punjabi I approve this food
M. S.
Amazing food and service! Your entire group needs to arrived before you will be seated. You can also ask for the vegan menu which has a huge range to choose from. I had Grandad’s Daal which was delicious! Super friendly and fast service 😊
G. D.
Excellent food for both meat eaters and veggies. The staff were polite and quick, making sure what level of spice I wanted.
B. Z.
Good atmosphere, excellent food but was perhaps a little overcrowded especially in these times of C19
J. H.
Meals are ssssuper spicy (even the ones without the warning)
Amazing rose lassi
Good quality price
C. W.
Nice service, good food and interesting menu. Prices are a bit high but I guess that's due to the very central location
N.
I am big on Indian food, and this place is absolutely amazing for north Indian cuisine! Our patent dishes are of course butter chicken, daal makhni and Biryanis (both chicken and mutton are good); but another fav here for me is the kaddu 'pumpkin' with puri.. it isn't too filling by itself and definitely needs other dishes to accompany this, but it's Def a must try <3
B.
Delicious chicken tikka take away, spicy but not fatty, for £5, it saved my Saturday’s lunch!
D. C.
We came here last night for my husband’s and daughter’s birthdays. We had such a warm welcome from Amrit. The food was delicious (definitely worth going for the special dishes in bold) and the service was exceptional. We’ll definitely be back again. Thanks for a lovely evening. You made the Birthday people very happy indeed 😊😊
A. A.
Oldest Indian Punjabi Restaurant in London and taste is just awwweesome.. food is delicious, very well cooked. Service is fast.
B.
Been here several times over the years, relaxing atmosphere, polite service, good quality meal.
J. B.
My favourite restaurant in London!! Been coming here for over 20 years and it never fails to impress.
If you want authentic Punjabi cuisine with a vast choice of items on the menu then you wont find a better choice. Staff are always so lovely and accommodating too.
M. A.
Wow what a delicious meal. Great wine choice as well. Highly recommended.
R. M.
Good food every time I go. Friendly staff
J.
Overall an amazing experience. The food is perfect.
Ó. G. S.
Visited last Saturday. Great samosas. Wonderful main dish.
J. S.
Loved it! Service was great the guys here are really nice and helpful if you need a hand with deciding what to get. Get here for an early night time meal before a show in the area or a late lunch to ensure an available table. Gotta get the Chicken Tikka Special and the Wings!
T. R.
Very nice and authentic Indian cuisine. Staff are all very friendly, highly recommended.
J. G.
This is an fantastic restaurant, a hidden indian gem in the heart of London. The food is great and the staff are very serviceminded
E. M.
We has the most beautiful meal here with outstanding service and atmosphere. An absolute gem to find in the heart of London. A must visit!!
H. S.
The location and service was great. Rest, not so much. The achari chicken had a rather uninspiring taste with overcooked chicken and the saag was underseasoned.
I wish it did justice to it's name. Also, very surprised to go to a Punjabi restaurant and staff not knowing what is onions with vinegar.
S. C.
Good service, delicious Punjabi food and very reasonably priced. I ordered the karahi paneer which was very tasty.
M. J.
A very average Indian restaurant. Staff were unhelpful and we felt unwelcome. Food was OK, nothing special. Far from impressed!
C. P.
Food was amazing and staff were so attentive. Thank you 😊
S. B.
The one restaurant that we make sure we visit whenever we're in London. Lovely food, nice ambience.
E. C.
We saw this spot on Saturday night, with a huge line out the door. We came back for a snack on Sunday, since we figured the food had to be good! We weren't wrong, and many other reviews confirm this.
We grabbed a few beers, and also had the samosas for an appetizer. My friends, I'm happy to say that these were the best samosas I've ever eaten. They were a bit spicy and rich, and the sauce served with them was AMAZING. We also split the Acharri Gosht, a lamb dish that we'd never had and decided to give it a whirl. To accompany, one order of Pilau rice and a butter naan. So good I can't even begin to describe it. Delicious food cooked perfectly, and I'd probably fight someone that tried to take that rice away from me.
Awesome spot! Would definitely come again, just know they get insanely busy!
K. L.
amazing food, service and naan. ideal noise level- bustling place but for some reason just the right amount of noise.
N. M.
Absolutely great place! They accommodated 20 of us very quickly with outstanding service and incredible food! Highly recommend!
B. L.
I've seen mixed reviews, bit we found it outstanding. Excellent service and good advice from the server, the food was absolutely brilliant as were the staff, highly recommended
J. s. R. (.
My 4th visit to the punjab restaurant I have dined in some of the finest indian restaurants in the world but the food at punjab is exceptional. It's a must if you are visiting London and you like top quality indian food and service.
R. S.
One of the best, authentic and reasonably priced Indian restaurants in the area. The food is very well cooked, less oil and spiced according to taste. The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and provides excellent hospitality. Ensure to book a table in advance to get best seating. Have brought many family guests to this restaurant. Highly recommended.
s. s.
It was really good and tasted amazing. The only criticism is that I felt the quantity was low for how much I paid. Other than that I would 100% recommend this to anyone.
A.
Very reasonable priced for food and wine in the heart of Covent Garden highly recommended.
R. S.
We have always enjoyed our visits to the Punjab Restaurant in Neal Street. The vegetarian dishes are excellent, warm hospitality with engaging staff and owners.
A particular favourite are the images of Sikh and Punjab history on the walls, which have always led to many discussions with friends and family, over a lovely meal.
Best wishes to all at the The Punjab Restaurant for your re-opening, and we hope to see you soon!
L. P.
Chose this randomly for dinner after the theatre. We asked the waiter and all ordered meals that were labelled 'medium' spicy, though everything was very mild. The food didn't taste bad just lacked a punch. Service was attentive at the beginning but we waited at least 25 minutes before being able to pay. Price for 4 people, ca £100 was fair but overall nothing special. Had the front window table with a mild draft due to single glazing most likely.
F. P.
Delicious food and fantastic atmosphere. A magical restaurant brimming with flavours, laughter and positivity. The owners and staff are some of the kindest people in London. Punjab is a special restaurant which has been woven into London's history - truly exquisite on every level.
T. F.
My Husband and I had Dinner at Punjab 3 years ago. We are from the U.S. and we were spending our 25th Wedding Anniversary in England. We had the BEST dinner at Punjab. The Food was the BEST Indian food we ever had and our service was Fantastic. We will be back and we highly recommend Punjab for anyone looking for the most Delicious Indian food in England.
S. R.
As ever, excellent food and service at a decent price. I first ate here more than 30 years ago and it's always a pleasure to eat at the Punjab!
P. D.
Fantastic meal, full of flavours and tastes. Excellent staff...highly recommended.
c. v.
I just have one word for the 'Fabulous'. It's tasty, flavourful and they serve in good portions. The service was excellent as well .. will recommend to try Ras malai for dessert... )))
S. t.
What an incredible vibe and delicious authentic food. The restaurant has the right amount of charm with the a family feel to it. We had the tandoori lamb chops, lamb kebabs, butter chicken, all done perfectly. Read all of the excerpts on the menu, take in all of the historic pics and tell them Sunny from Canada said hello.
O. C.
I live in Italy, but every time I come to London having dinner at Punjab it's a must. Now I'm just remembering the good times past with you and I hope that this damn pandemic stop just to fly again in London and pay a new visit to your extraordinary restaurant. Stay Safe! We'll see again
S. “. E.
Good authentic food, fast and friendly service!
E. C.
I went as a single diner, which is often a problem at a busy restaurant, but they treated me incredibly well. The service was superb. The meal was also--easily the best Indian meal I've had in London. It was seriously spicy (although within my tolerance range), so if you aren't used to spicy food (or only what Midwesterners consider spicy) be careful. The price was also extremely reasonable, especially given the good portion size.
n. p.
Really enjoyed and rose&mango lassi must try it👌
K. H.
Inviting staff, authentic dishes, and great service at a more than reasonable price. Definitly worth stopping in!!
K. W.
Hands down my favorite Indian meal ever! So much flavor and so fresh. The chicken was so tender and just absolutely delicious! Garlic Naan, I couldn’t resist ordering 2. The chicken wings on the Appetizer menu were incredible, I wanted more. If you’re in London this is a MUST!!
M. B.
Good food and great service in a Covid safe environment - very pleased to have visited!
S. N.
Great service, always receive service with a smile when I visit this place. It is one of my must stop eat when I'm in London. It is family owned and they do remember you even when it has been awhile since your last visit. The food is delicious, kids are also welcomed. If you like authentic Punjab food stop here you will not be disappointed.
N. B.
One of the oldest indian restaurant in Soho area continuously under same family management. As the name suggest some of the Punjabi dishes are pretty decent and staff/ owner were warm. Old world charm but could definitely freshen up the menu.
R. R.
Good service. Friendly greeter at the door. Quick service with the food. Typical Indian restaurant feel to it. They do make you feel like you are not ordering enough ... even though for two, ordered three naans and three dishes. Sorry not interested in Cobra drinks or anything else. Food was quite average (nothing stood out).
N. S.
One of the best Indian restaurants I've come across in Central London. It's fairly pricey, but the food is fantastic. The service is very good too, with waiters coming around often to check on things. There is a good selection of food and drinks available on the menu, including a range of Indian beers. I will definitely been visiting this restaurant again!
7. A.
Took 3 guests to this amazing restaurant last night. Food was amazing, good selection of drinks and incredible service. Highly recommend a visit
M. M.
Love the food here. Garlic naan tastes lovely and so was the chicken curry.
h. h.
A very good service provided by this restaurant. I’m on a holiday and these boys delivered with there high class food. Keep it up well done
B. G.
Best aunthetic north Indian food. Hard to beat. Amrit and family run it brilliantly
If you are in Covent Garden it's the best you will ever enjoy for service and value
R. S.
I was with a friend following a recommendation from another friend so had high expectations. We were not disappointed at all. Staff was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious and the portions well sized and very good value for money. The lamb was tender and the naan very fresh and still hot. The menu was well written to help making decisions on what to order and staff also offered to help. It's a busy place but did not feel like we were being rushed. I will definitely return and recommend to others.
A. S.
Best cheese naan on Earth? Great service.
E. R.
One of the best Indian restaurants, delicious food, great service, good prices. Really recommended.
C. H.
This has become one of my favorite places to visit when I am in London. It's the perfect balance of delicious food and welcoming atmosphere. With so many Indian food options, it's unusual that one would stand out this much. In addition, they were more than accommodating with a food allergy. It's truly a delight.
B. G.
Excellent food and friendly service. The Butter Chicken is fantastic, as was the Lamb Madras. Don't be discouraged by a line outside the door. They turn over tables quickly and were able to seat the two of us with barely a wait.
A. S.
Had a hard time finding decent Indian food in London for some reason. Where Dishoom is cool, this place is absolutely amazing and reminds me of my grandmother’s cooking. Will definitely be my first meal whenever I am in London. Wonderful service and the owner was fantastic!
B. S.
We came here last night for my wife's birthday meal. The owner came over to us and introduced himself to us and recommended what to get. Food was brilliant, service was exceptional. The owner always came up to us and made sure everything was OK. Only downfall was the dessert but that was resolved straight away. Will definitely be coming back here again when we are next up London and would recommend this restaurant to friends and family
A. C.
Nice Indian restaurant in the heart of the city. Very good food and very cordial staff. Can be very busy in the evening so do reserve a place if going in groups (4+) otherwise will have to wait to get seated.
f. p.
Great place with very good service.
We went for a couple of the highlighted specials and they were very tasty - rich and full of flavour as you would expect from good quality indian cooking.
Only down point regarding the cooking were the naan breads - they were floppy and old and clearly batch cooked long in advance - not good at all, if they sort this out this would be a top indian!
It was a bit pricey but not too bad for London. Waiters were very nice to the kids - good touch:)
C. F.
OK so food was great!! But service was a bit shabby, or pakora never came and we were neglected after they collected the plates we had intentions of ordering desert but decided not to since we literally had to stand up and walk toward them to get there attention, so we just asked for the bill. They were busy so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt otherwise would have been 5 stars..
R. C.
Decent, best way to describe it. Service was good. But was initially a bit spotty. The food was average. Just average. Disappointed as I was told London was the place to eat Indian food. I am also fairly picky about my Indian cuisine and was so surprised at how average my food tasted. Oh well.
M. G.
I have been to Punjab a number of times and have always had an excellent time. It's the oldest Indian family owned restaurant in the UK (if I remember correctly), and some of the staff have worked there for 50 years.
The staff are very friendly and make excellent recommendations, so this is definitely a good place to ask for recommendations. I usually go for the traditional Butter Chicken curry, which is excellent, but you really can't go wrong here, it's all good. I would also recommend the tandoori chicken wings, which are exceptional.
One of the very best curry houses in London.
H. S. K.
Excellent food and service in a restaurant far bigger than it seems from outside. Its reputation is evidenced by the queue waiting to get a table in the restaurant. Sub-continental beers made a nice accompaniment to the interesting variety of authentic Punjabi dishes. Absolutely would go back!
A. A.
Very friendly staff and very good fast service. The food is good but not excellent.
H. S.
Good food and nice service. The ambiance is really nice too. I loved my chicken Briyani and lassi.
s. r.
Unquestionably the best Indian restaurant in the West End.
The food is exceptional. Very traditional old school dishes served well. Really knowledgeable staff who are helpful and efficient. And very reasonably priced (especially for central London).
My favourite place to eat in the area (but make sure you book if you want to eat there as it is always popular).
R. L.
I have just enjoyed a most splendid meal at Punjab and even managed to recommend the place to my friend before getting the bill, which was Truckee a tricky because the service is quick.
The price level was bearable and the personnel was friendly and fast.
I can warmly recommend the chicken curry Acharri murgha and must remember it for the day i return. I had the "dough balls" that i can't remember the name of for dessert. Even though it was a busy Friday night, i had a nice chat with the manager. I'm leaving happy and will most definitely return!
A. J.
I was very pleased by the service. They were very attentive and recommended good dishes. What really made my experience was they noticed the food was a little too spicy for me and they gave me raita (yogurt) free of charge.
The food was also very well done. I highly recommend the Kadu Puri. You can taste the Punjabi style flavors.
k. g.
Good good. Friendly staff.
D. C.
Excellent customer service. The owner and manager clearly take pride in their establishment a d make youu feel like a treasured guest.
The food was fantastic. We tried several chicken and vegetarian dishes, all of them exemplary.
The decor may be a little dated and the place is cramped and busy - but that is exactly what I expect (and want) from a local curry shop. The food and the service really stand out.
T. B.
I first stumbled across this little gem of a family owned and run restaurant with my daughter and it immediately became our favorite place for lunch or dinner. I took my colleague from Northern Ireland to the Punjab restaurant tonight. As usual the food was simply divine, so fresh and authentic. The staff were friendly and helpful they really made our evening with their cheerful attentiveness. What was particularly telling for me was that the people on the tables around us were obviously regular customers because they were recommending their favourite dishes to us. A family from the Punjab had come on the recommendation of friends and were so enthusiastic about the authenticity of the food. Honestly this is the best wholesome and delicious punjabi food at incredible prices and so much of it. I always treat myself to a meal in the Punjab whenever I am in London. I'm slowly working my way through the menu and each visit never disappoints.
D. S.
Went here with a group of friends and had to queue for a few minutes to get in but it was well worth it. The menu is simple yet adventurous, there is a good mix of classic dishes plus some modern twists.
They serve Cobra on tap and Kingfisher in bottles, the wine is fairly priced and I didn't feel I was being ripped off. I'd happily go back here and will do so soon!
S. A.
Deliciously tasty food. Friendly service. Very busy though so definitely recommend booking or getting there early. Some great different things on the menu, lots fish and vegetarian choices. Recommend the fish starter and the chickpea curry. Will certainly be visiting again soon.
a. m.
Absolutely one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever visited in London. I have personally come back from the states many times and I always eat here. The service is decent, the food is amazing, and the staff is friendly and not pushy.
Best Chicken Tikka Masala you can find in London!!!
J. M.
Very nice place, good food and service!
J. B.
One of the best Indian restaurants in London in my opinion and second to none for Northern Indian. Have had both business and family dinners here and they do both well. The service is excellent and they are always engaging, especially with the children.
P. S.
Whilst spending a couple of days in London with a colleague last week, we came across this absolute gem of a restaurant.
It is always a reassuring sign to see a busy restaurant, particularly on a cold mid-week evening and it has a lovely welcoming, traditional feel.
The food was absolutely delicious, portion sizes are generous, the staff are friendly. One of the best curries I have had in a while.
I will definitely come again!
P. A.
Great food great service excellent atmosphere and not expensive at all will definitely be a regular when ever I'm in London keep up the good work guys
L. B.
Great Indian restaurant, probably the best I've ever tried! Quite a large menu which can sometimes be worrying, but each dish I tried was certainly not dissapointing! Have recommended it to many friends. Lovely authentic Indian food, but that's coming from an English white boy, so what do I know
D. H.
Excellent Indian food with a great authentic atmosphere. The spicy naan bread is delicious, definitely recommend ordering. Friendly staff, although took some time to get the bill (maybe because it was so busy). Great night out with friends!
A. P.
Most authentic Indian restaurant in central London! Doesn’t try to make the food overly fancy and a nice selection on the menu. Paired with a pint of Cobra you can’t go wrong.
B. G.
Omg best Indian food in the town!!!! Dishloom was too crowded like always, we end up going to Punjab around 6PM, which is NO WAIT AT ALL. I was quite disappointed on my London food trip, I went to some high review yelp place and end up with disappointment. Therefore, without high expectation (this place is also consider a high review place), I wish to have one meal in London that will blow my mind (I live in New York and a foodie, been to quite a lot of awesome places). Yes indeed, this place was spectacular! Very awesome and authentic Indian food, love it so much! I ordered my favorite biryani and their chicken curry is to die for.
N. K.
I'm an Indian and I loved the food served here. It was tasty and authentic.
There are too many restaurants around that claim to be Indian, but their taste is not authentic. So I was happy to find this restaurant.
Food and service both were good.
Only thing that bothered me was that the tables were very close to each other and overall feel of the place was little congested.
I.
Nice homely Indian food, great location of Covent Garden. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambience and service(which was slightly slow at times). High prices as expected from Indian restaurants in Central London. It did have limited choice in vegetarian food with very basic dishes
J. R.
One of very few good Indian restaurants in the west end. Food is a decent standard, with some dishes much better than others. I recommend trying the North Indian specialities. Only thing I don't like about this restaurant is that like most good places in London it's now very popular so getting a table is a challenge.
M. H.
GORGEOUS FOODS +PLENTLY OF SEATS...LOVELY STAFFS
S. G.
We were visiting London on our honeymoon and were so happy to find this place! It's been around since 1946 and offers all kinds of dishes that you normally wouldn't find elsewhere. The owner is very nice and gave us lots of recommendations from the menu and everything we ordered was delicious! Make sure you get there early to avoid a long wait.
A. J. M.
If you are a 'Chicken Korma' and rice person, you probably will ignore the place. But if you are prepared to savour a taste of authentic Punjabi cuisine, then pop in and be surprise. Ignore the Bistro look and order the unusual. The food is tasty and spiced to suit. Prices are reasonable for central London and the Asian music in the background comes free. Enjoy.
A. R.
I loved this place. Very friendly and relaxed and authentic atmosphere, reasonable prices, and a few specials on the menu which come highly recommended. The Food is of a very high standard and unlike many Indian restaurants that tend to make there curries a bit oily this was a very fresh tasting meal. I would definitely come back here without question.
M. G.
It is an upscale location in Coventry garden area and good for a lunch or dinner with family and friends. You have good options of curry, breads and drinks.price is reasonable compared to up scale restaurants in the area area.n week ends you need to be in Q to get a table though you do get the table quickly Staff are good. Enjoy the food !
U. C.
Really good Indian food in the heart of London. They've been in business since the 1940s. This place can be busy so expect to wait. Pay attention to your bill, there is sometimes a service charge that they add on! I asked the waiter about this charge. It goes to the owner and not to the working staff. They took it off my bill after I asked.
C. G.
Great Indian food! Each dish had its own distinct flavour. Staff was warm and helpful definitely recommend if you are in the area.
L. C.
This was the best meal I ate while recently visiting London. I have been thinking about it since I returned home a d I wish I could go back. The food was excellent the service was attentive and friendly. It is a snug fit so you will be close to your neighbor but that just means you get to easily see what others are eating.
G. D.
Came across this place by chance last night while wandering the West End with my wife. One of the best Indian meals we've ever had. Superb flavours, great value and really nice staff
M. F.
I'm so full, couldn't stop eating! Lovely Punjabi food that lives up to my family's recipes!! Absolutely my new favourite restaurant in London. Highly recommend Indian grover wine too, haven't found it anywhere since my trip to India and it's so nice.
P. D.
Fantastic place for Indian food. This past week was my first time in London, and wanted to try out the Indian food while I was there. I went to three places over the week there (including Dishoom), but this was the only place that my wife and I went to twice. Would definitely recommend going there somewhat earlier in the evening as there is a line going out of the restaurant in short order. I can say, however, that the line was shorter than Dishoom and goes quicker.
K. D.
You can do better for food than here. The pluses- they work hard to get you a table as fast as possible, which is much appreciated when you’re hangry; menu highlights are hard to miss (written in bold); place is steep in history; service is “efficient” so you’re in and out fast, which is helpful if you’re catching a show in the area. What can be improved- food is just ok/nothing special; service is abrupt, bordering on rude/apathy; would have been nice to be asked/warned of spice levels.
K. F.
Came for a lunch with a friend and had a nice meal. Makes sense that this place has been in biz for so long. Service was kind enough to let us charge our phones as well. Food came out slow though, prob. not the norm as others were getting food on time.
l. x.
Very delicious Chicken Madras, loved it with the naan bread (garlic). Very nice neighborhood, open till late, you can eat there anytime u want. Very nice portions.
k. s.
Best Indian food ever! Punjab has the best food, there service takes only about 5 minutes, and the waiters were very polite. There food is so authentic and so flavorful. I would recommend going if you are hungry for Authentic Indian food.

Must eat! Has not disappointed once for years on end

The best punjabi restaurant! Awesome flavoursome food! Great menu! Amazing attentive staff! Love the service! Can't wait for the place to reopen.
A. M.
Incredibly friendly staff that provide a fantastic service! The food that they serve up is brilliant! A great mix of traditional Punjabi dishes plus dishes with their own take.
A. S.
Absolutely amazing! The staff was great and so was the food. We tried a few of the Punjabi specialties on the menu and were not disappointed. I would definitely come here again!
A. T.
Quite nice indian food, but nothing too special or different from what is offered elsewhere.
Some items were quite expensive - £3.30 for a small plate of rice to compliment your curry is rediculous.
Service was otherwise great, despite one waiter being quite pushy.
The decor and atmosphere is ok but its quite bland, not giving you any nice feeling.
Toilets were clean.

3.5 stars. Good ambience, attentive staff and good price for the location and quantity. Reducing a star because the chicken dish ordered was not soft but rubbery. Other dishes were well made. Service was a bit slow even though it was late afternoon on a Sunday. Post the rush hour. Will try again and will recommend.

Excellent Punjabi cuisine. Very attentive and fast service. Friendly...happy service staff. Enjoyed watching the photos on the wall...steeped with family history. Second time there. Great pre or aft theatre stop.

We dined here on our trip to London before catching a show, and the service was quick and friendly. I had a fantastic Paneer Makhani. My wife's meal was much spicier than she expected, but still tasty. One unusual thing was that rice was not included with the meals. It was fine to order it separate, but this is different than what we are used to in the States. Overall, a great restaurant with exceptional food.
K. R.
We came from the United States, looked up where to find the best chicken tikka masala in London, and were not disappointed. Everything was absolutely delicious and the staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. Charming atmosphere in a great general location.
L. S.
My favourite Indian restaurant in the UK. Still family owned, the team there are exceptional. The food is unbelievably delicious. It could very easily be a tourist trap, but instead is a glorious hidden gem in Covent Garden. Make sure you have the Cheese Naan! Also, keep your eyes peeled for celebrities, it is a particular hot spot for them. I have seen a couple myself!
M. P.
A classic, elegant, old place with excellent northern Indian food. Very busy but not trendy. It's been doing this for a long time. The service is a bit curt but very competent and some of the gentlemen are very charming. But it's the food that really makes the place. Not your typical curry shop or tandoor. Seemingly authentic to my knowledge (having never been to Northern India). Try the black lentils!
R. R.
I took my punjabi parents for lunch here as they were born in the same era the restaurant opened :-)
The 'must have' dishes are Grandad's kali dahl (I could have eaten a whole bowl of this alone it was so delicious) and the tandoori lamb chops (succulent and meaty, a good generous portion). Amritsari fish was well spiced but over salted and the acharri chicken a little bland - I wish we'd ordered the jalfrezi (which I've had previously and is very good). Service is a bit disorganised (dahl was forgotten, garlic nan received after we'd ordered plain, different waiter arrived to take our order when we'd already ordered with another). Luckily the food quality distracts from the mishaps and rather cramped seating arrangements. The overall experience is like dining at a much loved Uncle's house....not very polished but you leave with a smile and very well satisfied.

What a wonderful gem on Neal Street! We stopped in for lunch before a musical at the Shaftsbury Theatre. Some of the best Indian food we have ever tasted. Menu has a wide variety. Wait staff and service were excellent. Will definately return next time we travel to London.
A. R.
Food and service were both incredible! Atmosphere feels homey despite a staff that runs the place like a much larger, well oiled machine. Highly recommend the Kadu Puri (pumpkin that melts in your mouth on top of a crisp that makes the whole dish a texture party), reading the hilarious menu descriptions, and saving room for dessert.
H. B.
Lovely cute little restaurant. The location was a bit too small considering its popularity however that was overlooked by the amazing service, hospitality and food. All dishes were to a high standard and would defiantly recommend to go here. Only down side is that can be a bit pricey, especially eating with family. My only suggestions for improvement would be to add refillable drink choice and larger tables. Other than that it's a lovely place and there is a wide range of dishes
G. B.
Awesome atmosphere. Quick wait outside. They keep things moving. Very clean, and great attention to detail. Food was excellent. Highly recommend
d. j.
5 stars for the chicken curry. I received my food timely, and the portions were overly generous. I easily could have split my serving with another person. Flavors in the curry were spectacular. Went on Wednesday night at 7pm, and I was seated immediately and ordered within 2 minutes. I passed Dishoom on the way, and that had a long waiting line. I felt very pleased with my decision
K. H.
What can I say. Punjab is a lovely restaurant - one of my favourite restaurants in London. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The food itself is excellent and there is a wide variety of choices - from mild to spicy - suiting most pallets. It is a great place for date night, and it is suitable for family / friend gatherings. Highly recommended.
B.
The Punjabi dishes are all excellent, with many distinct flavours and tastes across the menu. The best 'traditional' curry house in London in my opinion. If you are bored of all the 'street food' style restaurants that are now all the rage, visit this gem to remind you why a hearty flavoursome curry just can't be beaten. I already want to go back again, as remembering the taste of the Pudina gosht has made my mouth water.
A. B.
Great food, pleasant setting. Service is a little rushed as they are often busy. Definitely recommend a reservation. Good vegetarian selection, na'an and masala were excellent. Open until 11, and you'll often find the after-theater crowd here.
A. B.
Went there again after years of nostalgia, and the experience was pretty different from what we remembered.
The staff was pretty rude, always encouraging you (not so subtly) to order more. The food was OK though, thus the 3 stars.
Would not recommend overall.
A. S.
Food was average. Tasted better elsewhere. Very expensive.
B. W.
Overall it was ok. Very good bone in chicken tikka and mixed grill tandoori. Butter chicken was blander than normal, rice and butter nan were not fresh. Samosas were poor, seemed like they had been frozen. Service was effecient although no time for friendly banter. Pricing was reasonable for London. Ended up here after seeing the long line at dishoom but next time will plan better
C. S.
Superb. Never been here before, and the staff were hugely accommodating. They were also very proactive in suggesting dishes. Great food, great service. Will definitely be back.
J. M.
GREAT food! Nice service, a perfect spot for Indian food
M. R. T.
Very good food at a decent price. Try the mango lacy for a full experience.
J. M.
Excellent food, quite frankly some of the best Dahl I have had in my life (I have the same thing every time). Generous portions, restaurant is half booking, half walk-ins, always a queue and your sitting is timed and sometimes a bit rushed, but the food is worth it! Loads of veggie options!
K. N.
My favourite Indian restaurant in the UK. The quality of the food and the flavours are very authentic, with several stand out classics. This also happens to be I've of the oldest Indian restaurants in the UK and is still run by the same family. While your can get a table without booking you will probably have to wait a while, so I would suggest booking ahead especially if you are a largish group.
S. B.
This was the best Indian food we had in London (and yes, we went to Dishoom). Great selection, wonderful service and everything is delicious. You won’t be disappointed!
R. S.
Wow! Amazing, authentic Punjabi food. Spicy and flavourful, though not too oily. One of my top 5 restaurants in London! Great, attentive service, too.
M. S.
This quaint Indian is great if you want a genuine Indian curry with heart. The place in decorated in a 1940s style and it doesn't look much from the outside which makes it a place for people in the know.
The food is great and has a limited but sufficient range of drinks.
The only point for improvement is that the service could be improved we had to try very hard to get the bill at the end of the meal and it took a while for our drinks to arrive.
R. H.
Still one of my fav Indian restaurant in London even so after all these years they really could spend some money on an interior upgrade. The food is fantastic, the location close to Covent Garden and Holborn Station very convenient. The staff is friendly and attentive without being intrusive. So all good but only 4 stars due to the interior.
g. p.
Currys were nice, but nothing spectacular. Naan breads very disappointing, dry, small and not cooked in the tandoori oven like most places, which made them dry. Tables small, so had to keep moving stuff around, and the staff were desperate to remove plates almost as we took last mouthful. Probably would not revisit as many better around.
A. T.
Fantastic restaurant with excellent food and service. I've been going there for more that 20 years andI believe it's the best Indian restaurant in London. Started in the 1950's and still going in Covent Garden - they must be doing it right!
D. K.
Let me put it that way; I understand that London is very expensive and alsi having a restaurant at 7 dials you need to keep your prices up, but not as much especially if your turnaround volume of clients changes so fast - 2/4 clients every 45 min max. For example unless we have lost every sense of moderation I find it difficult to accept that 1 chicken korma, 1 chicken tikka (each of them being rather kids portions with 6 pieces of chicken cubes max), 2 plain rice, 2 pieces of naan bread, 1 papadum, 1 orange, 1 Apple juice, 1 diet coke and a sparkling water costs £62 including service charge. I don't know, maybe it's me that finds it expensive, especially with tiny portions but again as said this is London. Taste wise nothing special on these dishes. Good service on the other hand from all the staff working at the restaurant.
L. B. C.
Delicious indian food with plenty of choice. The naan bread with garlic was the best, the butter chicken was tender and perfectly spiced for a non-indian enjoying indian food (enough to break a sweat, but not so much that you die a slow dead screaming for water!). Fair price for the good quality.
M. C.
Great food! The chicken tikka Masala is different than I've had at other places. It it's a great difference. It was so tasty. Probably the best I have ever had! Service was also great. One thing both my wife and I noticed is that the staff here is so very nice, warm and welcoming. They even saw a homeless woman outside wearing a brown shall and went out to offer her some food! I mean come on! Talk about paying it forward! Not only does your establishment deserve an award in customer service and quality and taste of your food, but throw in a humanitarian award in there as well for helping out someone in need! I give all of the staff here my highest respect! That's for making me, my wife and my sleeping son (lol) feel so very welcome in a place that is truly amazing! We were so very fortunate to have stopped by to eat here. Thanks again!
Y. R.
Butter Chicken, awesome, but the chicken portion is ridiculous. Only two pieces with bones. Must improve. No need to be so mediocre with the chicken portion. Everything else great. I am doing an edit after the owners or representative’s reply. I’m sorry, but the plate should be called butter bone chicken. Sorry, just not acceptable serving barely any chicken with just sauce. Lost one star. Lamb portion was fine. No reason for the chicken to be this way .
B. B.
The main curries are a notch up from your average Brick Lane standard of meal with high quality chicken that is tender and firm with wonderfully seasoned sauces that have the right combination of spice and creaminess. Appetisers were average unfortunately, being a little dry and lacking flavour.
Service was efficient though not particularly warm, there was a queue on arrival but we were seated in under 10 minutes, whilst serving starters and mains were paced well. Lighting was bright upstairs which hurt the ambience but our table had a nice view of busy West End London from upstairs.
Overall the price hike is a little too high to justify over a 10 quid Brick Lane curry, with a meal for two costing just shy of 50 pounds. However the atmosphere is authentic and the mains are high quality.
C. O.
Good (Perhaps a 3 1/2) Went here with friends. Good quality standard fare, nothing to jump up on the table to shout about but a good solid option that will most likely not disappoint. Price seems right for the area. There 3 of us, we paid £28 each which included a fun Indian white wine (that was actually quite nice).
J. R.
Ate at this place yesterday as we’re always eating in On The Dak opposite Punjab and felt we should try it out.
I tried to book a table for saturday but they don’t take bookings so we were worried about a queue but as we got there we waited for literally a minute and were let inside.
The restaurant is basically a converted house as we went upstairs. The staff were okay. A little bit forceful and pressure you into getting your order done. My girlfriend was still reading the menu and one of the waiters had his hand on the menu to pull it away as she was still reading it.
The food was a bit disappointing. I had the lamb korma and it was the blandest tasting korma i’ve ever had. Lamb is supposed to have a rich flavour and i’ve had spicer korma sauces before. Not sure if this was how the korma dish is supposed to taste or if it’s their ‘fast food’ version of it as it’s near the theatres and they figure people want quick food with very little preparation involved.
The prices were a bit much for what was bland food. £13.30 for the lamb korma felt a bit much (that’s without rice and naan).
One of the best things about this place (which i was surprised by) was their food allergy menu which pointed out what was safe to eat for specific allergies. Which was great for us as one of our friends was gluten intolerant.
S. A.
Punjab Restaurant is by far the best of their cuisine in London. Amrit and the staff are all incredible, the service is fantastic and the food is out of this world.
C. J.
Stumbled upon the restaurant by chance. Arrived at roughly 7:00pm on a Friday evening with a party of 2. Was sitted within 10 mins. The ambience is lowkey, the wait staff is friendly and warm. The price of the food is reasonable. My partner and I ordered the curry prawns, curry chickpeas, curry sweet potatoes, plain basmati rice and garlic nan. Everything tasted extra yummy and very filling! We both enjoyed the food very much. I am a huge prawn lover and this is one of the few restaurants I have been that are actually serving real prawns and not just plain shrimp. The prawns still had a little tail on it which was easy to cut off. Everything was excellent!
E. P.
Reasonably priced, central location. Staff are attentive and food arrives really quick.
A. G.
I love this cute little place. Food felt authentic enough, spicy, hot and delicious. I went to Dishoom but there was a 30 min wait and I didn’t feel like queuing up. I’m glad I found Punjab. Reasonable prices and excellent, quick and friendly service. Very happy indeed. Will be coming back when in th area
A. B.
Amazing, have to try their Indian wine!
M. L.
Although the food was good I must say I found the restaurant on the hurry up. Booking for 25 people we was given a few hours . Anybody who knows a large booking may take longer to accommodate and serv . To be honest the mains came up quickly after the starter and even if we did wish for a desert we wouldn't of had time to eat it unless we simultaneously ate it with our mains before a waiter was asking us to vacate as the other booking has arrived. ... . Also watch your bill every short I ordered automatically came as a double which unless asked for is illegal. Other than that the food was great
S. S.
By far the most authentic place for punjabi food in London. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Butter chicken is a must have and so is amritsari fish tikka. For anyone tired of chicken tikka masala offerings in other Indian restaurants you need to come here and have their butter chicken! Service is very customer friendly, and the staff are always ready to help with menu suggestions and also on portion sizes. The only thing missing in their menu is perhaps an authentic freshly brewed Indian tea!
U. Y.
Started going to this restaurant with my mates back in late 60's. At that time it was just one shop. We were regular customers there then due to its consistently high standards of food and service. I'm in my 60's now and have lived on four continents but this still my favourite Indian restaurant in the world. Mr Maan sir, keep up the good work.
R. K.
Food was good and customer service was great.
R. S.
I found this place by google maps during my search for good Indian taste. I have visited many restaurants which claim to serve Indian dishes but to be honest they are less Indian and more English, i dont say those restaurant dont serve good taste but when you say Indian you bring that Authentic emotions to the food and its taste.
Punjab lives up to the expectations and they serve you real indian taste far away from land.
You must try their Amritsari fish and butter chicken. I have already visited this place for 3 times and its and before I leave London I will try to make another visit.
D. S. H.
Excellent food. They only seat a party once all members are at the restaurant but the owner came out and saw my sister and I waiting for my husband to join us. He graciously allowed us to take a table without our full party. The chicken tikka masala was deliciously buttery and the garlic naan superior!
K. M.
Decent prices. Standard Indian fare. Excellent service.
K. N.
I'm really happy with lockdown takeout. Delicious meal. Good amount of spice and good portion size. Pick up was very quick and safe and they have delivery on deliveroo too.
K. S.
It's a large restaurant so there was quite a bit of a wait for food to come out. I struggle with my rating, I would say the food was O.K. but could definitely use more spices and flavor (and I don't even eat spicy food!) ...it was almost bland? Which is not a word I would ever use to describe Indian Cuisine. We ordered the saag paneer, chicken curry, samosas and dal. All were pretty underwhelming. I would save your money, I think there were far better options in the city that we enjoyed while visiting London.
E. L.
Possibly the best Indian food of my life. The saag aloo (spinach and potato)
was insanely delicious. Unfortunately, I was late for a show and had to wolf it down. Sacrilege!
D. J.
Always great friendly service in Punjab. Now has a small Vegan menu which is great. When rhe vegan options are expanded beyond just the few options it currently has I'll give it 5 stars.
V. L.
I've been coming to The Punjab for years, along with other members of my family. I've also had the pleasure of introducing many friends to this London institution. Punjab is the only place in central London for authentic Punjabi cuisine as far as I'm concerned. I can't see myself ever going anywhere else.
Things to try - the lamb chops, the tandoori roti, the butter chicken and the kebabs. Delicious!
The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that the service can sometimes be a little rude and surly but it's usually a price worth paying for very good food.
T. T.
Best Indian restaurant in town for me. I have been going there for 30 years and the service and food is as good as my first day
B. G.
Food is perfectly cooked and the service is very good. By far the best Punjabi / Indian food in London or England you could say. Highly recommended staff is excellent and very friendly.
r. n.
Tasty food, excellent prompt service
S.
My favourite Indian restaurant. Full stop.
-Lovely authentic decor and calming atmosphere.
-Friendly door and restaurant staff. Door staff always greets warmly and with a smile.
-Tastey and fulfilling food (chef is Indian so proper stuff).
-Never fails to leave me satisfied :) good job!
B. B.
Our family decided to dine here after happening to walk by-- and we were glad we did! Wonderful and flavorful food and excellent service made our evening special. Amrit was personable and welcoming and made our experience that much better. Next time we hop across the pond, we will be sure to visit!
Regards from the Berlin Family
M. D.
Some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had. The chicken tikka masala was savory and perfectly spiced. The cheese naan was also amazing. A bit pricey but considering the ambiance, location, and quality of the food, it’s not bad. Huge fan of this place overall. I go whenever I’m in London.
M. G. T.
OMG. This place is amazing. Cannot believe I hadn't been before. I will surely come back!
The food was incredibly delicious. The friendly waiter helped us decide and recommended some of their specialties. I couldn't have wished for a better recommendation.
When in London do visit this restaurant.
J. S.
Delicious food and excellent service, prices are reasonable and portions are substantial. Can get very busy with a queue out front so consider making a reservation. This is my go-to spot for Indian food when I'm in London!
A. (.
Lots of vegetarian options very tasty
H.
Energetic staff. There is pictures of aristocracy on the wall that adds to a lovely simple and clean decor. The food was excellent and the beer fine. I would recommend asking the waiters to recommend something
P. M.
Right in the heart of the city, this (3.5 star, really) restaurant boast friendly, attentive staff, good selection of dishes, funny menu (you have to read it to understand), and fair enough prices for the area it's located in (Seven Dials). The food was decent but not particularly memorable. The cheese pakora was interesting. The pistachio kulfi obviously squeezed out of a single-serving tube (still retained the shape, despite being served in a glass container), so was disappointing. If you're craving Indian, a good enough option to try.
S. M.
Positives
Curry decent. Not outstanding and not in my top 10 but still nice and no complaints with the food.
Neutral
Was not able to sit at a table until my colleague had arrived 10 mins later. Even though there were maybe 50 tables available and still many tables free after we'd finished our meal! I know it was friday at 5pm but standing around liken lemon wasn't a good start.
Table service very keen. Were were asked what we wanted for our main about a minute after taking our coats off and then a second time a minute after that.
Also clearing the table whilst we were still eating.
Maybe next time we come in I wouldn't be surprised if you took our order in the street and booked us an Uber to arrive with our mains!!
J. B.
One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in the UK, definitely in my top 3!! Lots of selection and the service was friendly. Food was amazing, will definitely return!
H. S.
An excellent honest curry house. Amazing staff, so friendly and professional. Brilliant food! Thanks all involved for a really good meal. Loved it and will definitely be back!!
D. S.
I searched Google Maps for Indian food near our hotel and Punjab was the first result. The food was excellent and the restaurant itself had a quiet, romantic sort of feel. This restaurant has been around for 60+ years in the same family and after eating here, it's no mystery why.
I really enjoyed the chicken tikka masala with rice and naan. My wife loved her paneer tikka masala and the bite I had was very good. They have a number of Indian beers that were decent and an extensive tea menu. The service was quick and friendly; Punjab is definitely worth a stop if you are in London and looking for great authentic Indian food.
N. S.
My all time favourite Indian restaurant in London. I eat a lot of Indian food (some other favourites include Gymkhana, Jamavar, Roti Chai, Indian Accent)... but, this place is the real deal. You will leave smelling like curry. But it’s worth it. It’s the oldest North Indian restaurant in London and generally there is always a line. The restaurant is big, so if you are a group under 4 ppl, you generally will never wait longer than 20 mins.
My highly recommended appetiser is kadu puri. It doesn’t sound good but it’s amazing. Granddads Kali daal is a must as one of the mains.
Too bad they don’t make real Indian chai, but the food is so good, I’ll take the mediocre tea for the high quality punjabi food.
B. C.
Best Indian cuisine I have ever had. Papadum, samosa and naan were not oily or heavy. The butter chicken on the bone was perfect. I have sensitivities to spice and when I asked for it to be very very mild they got it just right. My husband loved his lamb and he said the meat was very tender. Great customer service shout out to Amrit and Sanjay. Amrit really cares about his customers.
This is also one of the oldest Indian restaurants in London.
S. C.
I went to this place yesterday for dinner around 8pm. It was crowded but because of their quick service the waiting time was only 15mins. We ordered chicken tikka masala and achari lamb it was delicious. We requested them to make it spicy and taste was amazing. real spicy Indian food. Loved it. Along with curry we ordered chapatis, Plain rice and Dal tadka and these items were also yummy. We also had Sweet lassi and pista kulfi they were also amazing. So my rating is 5 star for food and service. Though it seems to look pricey but the quantity is good for mains which we tried and imp things was the washrooms were also clean n tidy which also an important part of any restaurant. It's a must try if you are at Covent Garden. I m not sure about starter taste and quantity.
m. v.
Food was fingerlicking good! A lot of variety!
S. P. (.
Good food, good service.
We got a fish dish as an appetizer. It was okay.
For main dishes, we got palak paneer and chicken tandori, along with one naan and one rice. Palak paneer was delicious. There were a lot of paneer, which I love. Chicken tandori was nice and soft. Both the rice and the naan were good. I prefer the rice.
The whole meal was good. The staffs were nice, friendly and helpful.
K. U.
Tasty biriani and dall. Had the vegetarain one as not Halal (I believe). Very busy, you have to wait for a table, but they seem to know What they're doing once you're inside - and what matters is the food, which is really. Go give It a try, and enjoy.
C. L.
One of the most authentic Indian restaurants that serves a great selection of delicious curries. Also has so many options of naans you don’t get in most Indian restaurants in central London. Just be aware, the bullet naans are no joke!
G. T.
11 of us dined tonight at the restaurant. The food and service was fabulous. All of us had a great evening and without doubt all enjoyed the food especially the Punjabi favorites. It was my second time here and will be my go to Indian restaurant in London.
A. F.
Very nice food. Not too spicy for those who are not accustomed to spicy food. We spoke with the manager and he said they can do more spicy upon request (so keep this in mind). The Q to enter was not too bad, we had a 15 minute wait and it was worth the wait.
P. D.
The mains are like 9.90 each (chicken) rice and naan 3 each. I expected the food to be generous because of the price but my butter chicken was very small I had to really scrape it to get some meat out of it at all... After finishing the meal I wasn't hungry but could have eaten more. The food is tasty but there are tons of Indian restaurants which are as tasty and charge much less (and serve much more)
F. L. C.
Honestly one of the best restaurants in which I dined while in London. Excellent service and food at a good price point. Highly, highly recommended - can't wait to go back.
H. S.
Better than many other Indian resteraunt in London. Quality of food deserves 5 stars, and portion sizes good too. This was a surprise find for me, although judging from the queues outside, not to everyone.
M. H.
We ate here in covent garden before heading off to a musical in the lyceum theatre. Outstanding food! They tell you how spicy your dish of choice will be when normally prepared and they can spice it up or mild of down to your liking. The garlic bread was lovely and I had trouble staying off off the bread which was served before the main course. We had a grilled chicken dish, the courgette and the tikka massala, all cooked and spiced to perfection. We were in London for the holiday, but if I would live there I would eat there again tomorrow. Just lovely!
G. S.
Food is on point, service is good and wait time was bout 5 mins for a party of 4 at peak times. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Acchar Murgha, Yellow dhaal, Saag Paneer, Chicken Briyani and Tandoori King Prawn. Could've done without the prawn it was ok. Also, when you say spicy they serve spicy. Also, main dishes were all served together and were hot.
p.
Had a wonderful time here; the courses and service were excellent and the restaurant itself has a welcoming atmosphere with an interesting history. I would recommend it not only for the delicious Indian cuisine but also for a lovely experience in the center of London.
E.
Went with a large group. We hadn't booked be were seated almost immediately. The menu is fairly typical, and reasonably priced given its location near Covent Garden / Seven Dials.
M. C.
Good Punjab based Indian food from restaurant in London since 1946. Enjoyable but comparatively narrow menu and I think taste toned down a bit for a London customer base. Interesting Punjab pictures, artefacts and posters to see. Fast service and thanks for fitting me in.
A. M.
I think this is one of the best Indian Restaurants in London. Close to the British Museum the food is astonishing and the ambiance very authentic, I have been several times with husband and friends and been never disappointed! Must go!
N. E.
Went here as a family and found the restaurant in a very nice area of London. The staff was very friendly and helpful but unfortunately we did not enjoy the food. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and received a masala sauce which could have as easily been a tomato sauce for a european dish, it really was so bland and almost void of any Indian spices, (I mean taste and not spicyness in a hot way as this dish is never a hot dish) It was also served warm and became cold very quickly. Another thing that annoyed us was that when we ordered a bottle of water for the table at £2.95 we received tap water in a restaurant branded bottle. I believe if we had asked for tap water which we are entitled to in the UK, then we would probably have received the same bottle. Our fault for not asking I guess. Having lived in London for many years prior to our recent visit, we should have known better than to eat in the tourist zone, but unfortunately we did not have a lot of time to travel to Brick Lane or any of the curry houses situated outside of the tourist zone. We also were in a hurry and didn’t have time to complain and wait for another dish, as I am sure they would have been very understanding.
Conclusion: great location and service but not the most authentic Indian curry you will get for £12.50 per head. I read just now in their reviews feedback that if you want a spicy meal you should ask for it, but it should rather be the other way around I would have thought.
