Reviews of Quilon

Celebrating life and what better place than Quilon, from the Taj Hotels Group. The southwest coastal fine dining deserves the Michelin star.
We were greeted with papadums and chutneys and amazing Masala Chai and Mango Lassi to set the mood right in this stormy weather. The Crab Cakes, Grilled Scallops, Pepper Prawns and baked Halibut as starters melted in our mouths.
The Baked Black Cod was out of this world and deserves a special mention. The Asparagus, Beans, Edamame, Malabar Paratha and Pachadi were equally outstanding.
We tried the authentic Bibinca, Baked Yogurts- Nolen Gur, Mango and Lychee and the yummy Chocolate Ganache for desserts.
Definitely a must go if you are in London.

Throughout the time, the service was superb, and the staff was courteous and attentive. Nikita was primarily responsible for our table, which was excellent. The food quality was superb, as Ragbir explained each time the dish was given to the table. The lamb curry was fiery. Perhaps it could have been forewarned. We paid £385 for a non-vegetarian tasting meal for four people and a bottle of wine. It would be beneficial if staff members could wear name badge

Good food but was expecting more from a Michelin star restaurant. The service was great thanks to Viji our host. He made some good recommendations.
The starters were tasty and the sauces that came with the mini popadoms
The lamb shank and Manglorean chicken lacked some flavours and were quite bland.
The desserts were really good especially the Bibinca
Overall, a good experience.

Not Gender Equal 😔👨🏽🦱👩🏾
For food and service, a well deserved ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Plus our unexpected dessert coordinated by the restaurant manager and hotel for our anniversary.
Sadly, I do have to highlight a clear gender divide in roles within the restaurant. It was sad to see only male waiters communicating with customers.
Females had the role of clearing tables and topping up drinks. Something we do not expect from a top London restaurant 😔

The food was good, but for a meal costing just over £200 (non vegetarian tasting menu plus 2 drinks) for 2 people, we weren't blown away. For a Michelin star restaurant I was hoping for a bit more in terms of wow factor in taste etc, staff we're very friendly and attentive and we we're most definitely full by the end.

Tasting menu was perfect. Staff is expertly trained and very attentive (especially the manager). Great seafood. This isn’t a place you come for chicken tikka masala and naan. Such good food, great ambiance, and in phenomenal neighborhood.

We enjoyed our dinner very much. Their prawn curry is super and the black cod well worth it. I really disliked the flavour of their fish curry though and somehow I missed some small treats for dessert (I believe they used to do these?). We ended up full and the waiters were very nice.

Good restaurant that needs a few tweaks to be exceptional. In summary, amazing starters and wine but very bland main dish. Timing is all wrong and needs fixing. Staff are very friendly but disorganised. Do inform the diners about complementary dishes at the start.
Long review because I genuinely want them to do well. Hopefully this will be seen as constructive.
First the positives, staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. Ambiance & decor was pleasant. Wine list is priced very reasonably for quality.
The Fisherman’s catch starter was simply fantastic! The seafood was very fresh. Each piece cooked to perfection and tasted incredible.
The complementary mini popadoms were freshly made and the chutneys and accompanying sauces were just divine.
The complementary mini rassam soup palate cleanser was delicious.
Here are the negatives.
The signature Mains dish - Braised lamb shank was very disappointing. The meat was tough and the sauce and flavour were very bland. Simply not a good dish - let alone Michelin star quality. The tomato rice was average as was the Malabar paratha.
I didn’t order the Briyani as I was didn’t have any accompanying dhal which is very strange as this is standard in every single Indian restaurant.
The signature Qojito (with chilli infused vodka) tasted very average. The crushed ice was not the right size.
The timing of dishes was very poor. It took forever for my cocktail to arrive. The starters arrived before the popadoms. The rassam soup arrived at the same time as the main.
The whole paying process was very strange. No complimentary sweet - even something small would have been nice.
I informed during the booking that it was my birthday. They totally forgot. I ordered my taxi and then they rushed over saying they have a cake for me. But it was too late. A real shame.

Quilon is an excellent location for an indian cuisine. Service is excellent. Especially if you are having business dinner, great place. One drawback is the menu is limited to few items, probably this could be an area of improvement.
