Reviews of Reubens Restaurant
R. G.
Reubens has been serving up an array of delicious food for over 46 years as the longest running kosher restaurant in the UK and the only kosher restaurant in the West End. It's updated offering retains the heart of the brand and continues to serve up all the classic and favourite recipes that it's customers have always loved – including piled high salt beef sandwiches, the Reubens burger, latkes, schnitzel and chicken soup with all the trimmings.
S. G.
Had a nice dinner here with family. Sat in the upstairs area looked like downstairs was closed. Good food and big portions!
C. G.
Had a great visit to Reubens over the last weekend and it has come leaps and bounds since a few years ago. The inside is nicely redone, the service great and prices for the area and kosher very reasonable. Basically the same prices as Golder Green.
Good was great but simple and great flavour. Chips were a bit soggy though, don't over complicate them!
Overall very good service and food, place was very clean and good staff.
If you liked my review feel free to give it a 👍 and follow me on Google Maps for more reviews

Absolutely delicious and although this place is pricey it's worth every penny. We had salt beef sandwiches and they were yummy which was a good job at £18. Worth every penny. My only comment would be that the waitresses weren't particularly friendly but the food took centre stage and id definitely come again
A. C.
The sandwich itself was nice but it's so pricey, the service was not great mainly because there wasn't much of it, couldn't tell us what was in the salads and there was only three small tables to be served when we went. The salt beef is delicious though and if they actually served the sandwich like the promo photos they have on social then it would be much better, theyre about half the size in real life. Don't bother with the side salad, waste of money.

Stumbled across on a short trip. Had the burger and salt beef (Reubens burger). Was delicious. Only slight critism was burger was a little under done but I did order a medium.
Service was good despite restaurant being full booked. Manage to grab a seat at the bar
Would come back.

The quality of the food and service is undescribable.
An unforgettable experience.
D. L.
Super tasty food, great variety. Good meat and also vegetarian options. Good and warm service.
Better to make a reservation as they were fully reserved when at the time of my visit.
C. V.
The food is OK but the service leaves a lot to be desired. The waiters were not particularly friendly and we had to wait quite a while to receive our food. It is lovely to have a kosher restaurant in the centre of London but there is a great deal of improvement required.

Amazing place, the food so tasty, i will come back soon
The staff so kind, excellent service!!!
V. G.
Amazing restaurant !! I definitely recommend and I will come back for sure. The staff was really nice and helpful with recommendations. Beer was really good and so was the food.

I’ve been craving some kosher deli meats for a couple of days (not many kosher deli available in London restaurants) and so I found this place online. So glad I did, the Reuben sandwich was really good; coleslaw, salt meat, pickles and mustard, what’s NOT to like?
Sure the price was a bit steep but the portion was huge, it became my lunch and dinner later on. The chips are good, and my mom ordered grilled chicken thighs and rice which was delicious. Service was good. No complaints here whatsoever. Definitely recommending this place to my friends and definitely coming again.

I highly recommend it, if you want a taste from the Jewish world and even if you just want the best SALT BEEF sandwich in London.
Beautiful restaurant, excellent service, kosher and very tasty food!!
S. c.
Your traditional Jewish Deli. Tried their classic salt beef sandwich, was great, it had really succulent meat, the mustard had a good kick to it.
They also have a variety of house pickles one must try for sure. They are really clean and fresh..
M. K.
Great food served in a fast and efficient manner. Not cheap but you are getting some high quality food.
Particularly enjoyed the Reuben Sandwich and Poutine Fries.
J. K.
I celebrated my nomination yesterday in this great place. Well we had a phenomenal evening and the restaurant was indeed the reason for that successful gathering. The stuff participated in a very nice way, the meals were tasty and my guests were very glad. We shall absolutely visit again for more joyful events. Thank you very much.
Y. E.
We had a great experience at Reubens. The food was delicious and came fast. Special shout out to the great Mikel and all the waitresses for doing an awesome job.
J. S.
It's great to have a kosher restaurant back again in London. I don't live there and only travel for work but it can be a hassle to find convenient kosher food. I highly recommend both the Reubens salt beef (corned beef) sandwich and the Reubens chicken soup. Both were delicious.
J. G.
I really enjoyed my experience...very comfortable and welcoming place. Tasty and fresh food. Bit on the pricey side, but worth it . service was good too, didnt have to wait long for my food.
H. H.
The food here is incredible. So fresh and delicious. We had the deep fried mushrooms, sweet and sour chicken, and the schnitzel. And the dessert!! Such an enjoyable meal, great environment, and absolutely worth it. A must try, and must go back!
J. M.
Best salt beef sandwich in London. The Reubens burger is delicious.
W. M.
Really enjoyed the salt beef sandwich on rye bread, so tasty and made just how it should be. The reason for 4 stars was that I called and asked if there was any fat on the meat, I would like it trimmed off. My request was not listened to.
T. T.
The Reubens sandwich was good, just not great, especially for the price. Bread was on the dry side. Also, the people taking my order had goldfish memory. They asked me 3 separate times what bread I wanted and whether I really really didn't to pay £7.95 for a small bowl of Maggie chicken noodle soup.
A. A.
Was in the city for the day, at some point became really hungry, popped into Reubens and had the best food served literally within minutes. Perfect location, a big issue with parking, very fast service. Highly recommended

Most imoportant detail: Certified Kosher!!!
This a well lit, table service restaurant with excellent food. Came here with a co-worker who eats strictly kosher and recommended their salt beef (corned beef) sandwich, which they are famous for.
I ordered their Reuben sandwich. This is a monster; double decker sandwich stuffed with beef. If you get it with everything, it comes with mustard, Cole slaw and full sours pickles slices. It is delicious and incredibly filling. Only get this if you're hungry or sharing.
It is a popular place so you might have to wait for some seating. We waited about 10 minutes so it's really not so bad. Service is decent; all wait staff are polite but with rushes they tend to take a while to get to you sometimes.
Y. M.
Food is very good but service is far too slow as Uber eats/deliveroo get prioritised
B. T.
Best choice in London for salt beef sandwich.
E. S.
Great food choice for Jewish people and Israelis. Great service and prices are high but not too high. Food was delicious. Thank you.
D. M.
Good old-fashioned kosher food, served in the slightly chaotic and harassed fashion that's endearingly traditional. Definitely recommended. 🙂
Y. J.
An old London kosher landmark just getting better, it seems that new management has come in since my last visit and added some refreshing energy into the place!!
A great place for a business meeting or just getting together with friends. I highly recommend this restaurant for its good service and great tasting food.
D. M.
I ate the famous Salt Beef sandwich from Reubens earlier this month and i can honestly say it's a 10/10 from me! The SB came STACKED. The mustard cuts through the richness of the SB and the pickle balances everything out. Delicious! I'm looking forward to many more visits going forward 😁
C. H.
Great service, excellent food and lovely atmosphere whilst waiting for the sandwich to be freshly made - what more could you want?
R.
Great food, really... but such a bad attitude. Last time I ordered their soup 1/2 spilled out and soaked the rest of the order. I complained when next in-store and asked for better packaging they were so prissy... listen to your customers ffs. Find better soup containers that doesn't ruin my order.
M. F.
Apparently this is the only kosher restaurant in the area. Great service. We sat upstairs; it's like a diner. I think downstairs is more formal but I didn't look.
L. A.
We had an extraordinary in this spot. We loved the first-rate atmosphere and the menu. The staff members were very attentive. I am happy we ultimately managed to visit here.
N. S.
Good salt beef sandwich but a little steep at £11.
It's also far too variable, my sandwich was noticeably smaller than my partner's.
R. E.
Get the feeling you are back in the 80's. Place didn't change since. Food fairly good but renovation will upgrade filing. A little update to menu is needed too.
I. A.
First time trying the famous beef sandwich. I didn't dissapoint. I was attended by a very kind young woman, I didn't had to wait much for the food to come. The hummnus was delicious, would definitely recommend. Although it's a bit pricy, the experience is worth it. A proper kosher restaurant in the heart of London.
M. M.
A little disappointed tonight. First visited Ruben's a few years ago with a couple of colleagues and had a good evening from.what I recall. On a weekend trip to London, thought I'd take the family to enjoy the experience of a Jewish restaurant.
The food was generally good. As a celiac, it would have been.nice to have a menu clearly showing gf options. The staff did however explain what could be ordered.
It was the customer service that let the evening down a little. Perhaps it was just too busy but generally appreciate being checked on, asking if we need sauces etc. and saying thank you and goodbye are niceties that help customers to return. Didnt want to be too critical but this was my feeling. A contrast to the very friendly Italian restaurant we visited the night before. Hence the 3 stars instead of 4. Shalom. God bless Israel.
The food
H. C.
Food was delicious & ambience was good, but as it good busy, service became extremely slow, which was a shame because otherwise I'd give it 5 *
D. L.
The best salt beef , amazing salads ,fantastic service
Highly recommend
I. F.
What could be a more Reubens experience than 4 North London Jewish middle-aged Seinfeld fans going out for salt beef sandwiches... Great meal and atmosphere... not that there's anything wrong with that!
N. k.
I celebrated my graduation today in this great place. I am glad to say that we had a fabulous evening and the restaurant was indeed one of the reasons for that outstanding meeting. The stuff collaborated in a lovely way, the meals were delicious and my buddies were very thrilled. We shall surely return for more celebrations. thanks very much.
I. “. P.
Absolutely amazing food and luscious salt beef. The staff are so friendly aswell.
D. L.
Yesterday was the first time we went to this fine restaurant. But It is definitely not the last time. We passed a splendid evening with the excellent service, with the exceptional cooking and fine drinks and with the honest payment. We will no doubt return there soon.
S. B.
Enjoy this place every time I've been. Good food & overall experience. A must is to try the traditional salt beef sandwich or even the burger with salt beef. Go try you won't be disappointed.
P. S.
That a fantastic food!! You should try it. Amazing!
A. C.
I visit this spot a lot since I work right next to it. I love how their service is always good and they keep the spot well kept at all times. Pricing is affordable and they serve big portions.
M. N.
Absolutely amazing and elegant.
Got a table right when I arrived the food came out hot and fast.
The waiters were very professional and helpful.
Highly recommended.
P. C.
Great cafe restaurant bright clean and very presentable. Food is all freshly prepared and beautifully presented by efficient friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit.
M. R.
Food is delicious (try the salt beef croquettes and beef ragu!). The deli grab & go is fine, service is good, but the upstairs eatery itself is quite dreary. We visited a couple of days ago and it was absolutely freezing inside, we just couldn’t sit there for more than half an hour...

Review as requested:
I visited the restaurant in late December, the place was fairly busy. I liked the aesthetics of the place.
It took a while for our order to be taken, but acceptable given how busy the place was. The Reuben's sandwich, which was recommended by the waitress, was dry and lacking flavour (-1).
I was disappointed by how long it took to get the waiters, waitresses' attention. Some of our order was missing and when we mentioned this to the waiter, they forgot to correct it. Even when asking for the bill, it took more than 15 minutes so I went directly to the counter were it took a further 15 minutes before I was done (-1).
The food was fairly priced. Would recommend for those looking for something different.
A. N.
By far the best salt beef sandwich in London. The beef is moist and juicy and stays that way, add Reuben's pickles and get one extra, and add mustard, all on the bread. It is heaven. One cannot go wrong with this dish.
I would also recommend their latkes (not as good as my mother-in-law's but still very very good because only I get to eat my mother-in-law's latkes). I also love their fried gefilte fish. Also with delicious cole slaw.
Their chopped liver sandwich with an Israeli salad is also a great combo. There are so many nice options. It is worth multiple visits.
J. F.
Reuben’s does the New York kosher deli perhaps better than even the real thing. They do not take reservations but on a Sunday night we only waited about ten to twenty minutes to be seated. And the wait was worthwhile. All the food was delicious, the seating was comfortable, service was good, and the prices, though high, were reasonable compared to those of its New York counterparts. Get the Reuben’s burger with salt beef - it comes with a generous portion of great food including slices of their signature salt beef; this is better than the salt beef plate which is just a few strips of salt beef on a plate for the same price as the burger with salt beef.
M. G.
They serve big dishes and for reasonable prices. super nice staff members. I recommend this place.
L. V. M.
A bit old fashioned. Burger was good.
I. B.
Kosher restaurant near Baker Street and madam thousand. Very nice menu. We came as a family and ordered pasta, deli sandwich and falafel. Every one was satisfied.
M. L.
Had a really good inexpensive lunch here. The dumplings in the chicken soup were superb and fluffy. And the salt beef sandwich really hit the spot. Friendly attentive service too. Will definitely be back!
J. F.
Amazing food and the salt beef is just wow!
Z. E.
Great salt beef sandwich and soup!
D. G.
Best salt beef in town and great service well done
N. B.
I went in for a dessert and coffee. Apple strudel was good, although it took a long time to come but the coffee was horrible: more than half froth and cold
P. H.
Absolutely a spot worth stopping over, the food is excellent and well prepared, the costs are convenient and it is regularly clean here. Great work.
A. Y.
Been there 6 months ago and forgot to review. Awsome food; excellent service, I used to come there a lot in the 1990's when I was a student in London. Still good and the manager claimed to have recognized me... We ordered salt beef and steak at the dining parlor. The meat was of excellent quality, the side dishes too (we are talking an establishment here!) My kosher observant business partner was extreme happy and so was I. There is a reason why they are still in business for such a long time.
E. R.
First time at Reubens in Baker Street. I had a very enjoyable lunch. The skinny salt beef sandwich was very filling, 4-5 slices of salt beef on white bread. My friends had the soup and latkas. A very reasonable £33 for 3 people. I had to take away the other half of my sandwich. Highly recommended.
N. F.
Amazing Kosher Restaurant, burger was amazing and staff very friendly.
A. F.
I liked it a lot... And the sandwiches were surprisingly reasonable.
Come here for kosher salt beef (corned beef).
W.
Frankly it was a disappointing salt beef sandwich. My meat was chewy and tough, perhaps because the meat was cut along the grain, not a cross the grain. Another customer said something on his way out and the server said that the meat shouldn't have been tough as they had cooked it for a long time.
My portion was not as generous as on the website photograph.
The staff were efficient and friendly, so hats off to them.
P. K.
Highly recommend. Great service, nice atmosphere and varied menu. The salt beef sandwich is delicious.
R. J.
Best salt beef in town!
Staff were really friendly & atmosphere was very nice.
Will definitely be coming back.
D. H.
My favourite Salt Beef & chicken soup is at Reuben's Baker Street.
Staff are always really welcoming & atmosphere is really nice.
A. G.
I had a schnitzel in pita wit a few naughty chips. Great taste. Although it did take a few minutes to prepare it rates fresh rather than reheated. Really pleased they reopened. Highly recommend, Kosher in West end.
S.
Delightful. Well prepared food and excellent service.
J. S.
Reubens is back. Friendly service and the best salt beef sandwich this side of Brick Lane. The prices are now far more reasonable and it's the only remaining glatt kosher restaurant in central London.
I've been coming to Reubens since I was a kid in the 20th century, when it was located on the other side of Baker Street. Around 6 years ago the restaurant went down hill with unfriendly staff and ridiculous inflated prices. I'm pleased to say the new management (the same people behind the excellent Delicatessen in Hampstead) have done a superb job improving the customer experience.
A real New York kosher deli experience in the heart of London with superb salt beef. What's not to love?
c. z.
Was in London and sought Kosher cuisine. Went to Reubens and wasn't disapppointed. Chicken noodle/matzo ball soup was very good. Salt beef sandwich was very tasty. Latka was excellent. The best lamb chops we've ever eaten. Enjoy!
T. M.
We came to this spot for lunch. my friend recommended this spot. Well, we were not disappointed. The staff members welcomed us with a smile and we had a great feeling. The food was just great. We had a great time and we will definitely return to this restaurant. Keep it up.
G. S.
One of our favourite restaurants and in my top 5 kosher restaurants in the UK. The salt beef is to die for and highly recommended if you haven't been before. Essentially two restaurants with an informal upstairs and formal downstairs. The staff are friendly although we did recently have an issue with a member of our group visiting from the US being asked for ID to use her credit card, which caused a fuss. However I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if you're a Jew in central London who doesn't want to bother with going to Golder's Green to get food!
N. F.
The best kosher deli in the world ! dedication and attention to make traditional dishes with generous portions. This old school concept is indeed refreshing for a restaurant in the west end - if you do not eat kosher still recommended ! An experience that will leave you with a taste of tradition . Their soups are superb, their service is great! Note that the deli is self service and grilled items were made fresh, so it will take a little longer.. well worth waiting for their nice steak! Selections of salad are amazing too!
J. C.
Went for the Reuben sandwich with the pickles separate and coleslaw. Was great and had plenty of salt beef - felt well fed after. Only downside to the Jewish deli is the slight expensive pricing (not staggeringly expensive, but not cheap for sandwich food).
D. B.
We went for lunch and ate upstairs.
The food was fine - the lasagna was quite tasty, for example - but it was clearly reheated and not made fresh, a slight issue considering the prices.
This was further evidenced by the fact that when we asked for ice cream, we were told we couldn’t have it because the kitchen was closed - only for the table next to us (which appeared to be populated by friends and/or family of the chef) to be immediately served several large ice cream sundaes!
The staff didn’t even have the decency to look embarrassed by this.
Overall, if your only consideration is getting hot kosher food, I guess go for it because there aren’t many alternatives in the area. But it will cost you, and you’ll have to leave your dignity behind at the door.
Y. R.
Best salt-beef sandwich outside of New York
A. R.
Very lovely kosher food. Everything tried tasted great and would recommend, even for those that do not observe kosher. Was a bit on the pricey side, but not unreasonable. The service was pretty poor, hence for the lowering of the score. We repeatedly had to ask for service and then ask for the bill and card machine. Would definitely give at least an extra 1 star, possibly 2 if it wasnt for that.
Y. H.
Part of our order did not arrive but was still on our bill (were we expected to pay for something we did not receive?). Had to get the waitress to take it off the bill. Salt beef was dry - nothing special. Overrated.
S. B.
More than lived up to its superb reputation. Father and son run who actually serve you. We had salt beef on rye with mustard which was just the most tender meat. Then followed by hot apple strudel which is just to die for..... It doesn't sound a lot but I was full as the sabdwich is very generous.... Highly Recommended as people "in the know" will know.
H. D.
I like to go with friends to this restaurant with my warmest recommendations. I visit this place often. I get very good feedback from my friends. The meals are great and the stuff is welcoming and cooperative. always when we visit this place we have a pleasing time. warmly recommended.
E. G.
they have up the game, from being bought off and going down hill to now have improved to a way better service and menu and its back tasty as one would expect from traditional Ruebens!
/busy in the city cause of work or vacation stay, perfect place to go eat kosher tasty English Hiemishe food!
price is normal for city and plenty seating upstairs and downstairs at the vip area
P. M.
Amazing kosher deli. (Full kosher with vertification) highly recommend.
M. H.
Service is really nice
Food is amazing!
H. J.
I love Reubens, so much so that I have been twice in three weeks.
This has been the find of 2015 for me.
The Salt beef is amazing and the Chicken soup is fantastic. The host is great and the service is friendly and fast. I shall be making it three times in a month I feel.
Thanks guys I’ll be back soon.
M. G.
This place was great prior to the refurbishment and now after that even greater. I especially like the table service too. It's great to have such an excellent kosher restaurant in the centre of town.
S. H.
The new management made this a very refreshing and enjoyable experience. Both the food and the service was perfect. Thank you Reubens.
N. L.
Four stars for being there and probably last restaurant of its kind. Strange serving system with no obvious place to stand. A sign would help. Staff entertaining. Food variable but good choice. Latke and soup very good but where did they get square rye bread...
A. D.
last night was our first time we came to that restaurant. But It is surely not the last. We had a good time with the courteous service, with the magnificent food and wine and with the modest pay. We will no doubt visit there in a short time.
J. S.
The food is good. Half the service staff is unhelpful and unfriendly. It's hard to obtain a table when you're a larger group than two or three and the staff is not helpful in sorting things out or explaining their system of half cafeteria style.
M. A.
Great place, great food, really generous portions! Salt beef was fabulous and the salads were all really tasty!
Mikel is a very attentive waiter and we were treated like queens! Thank you Reubens!
L. W.
This site is my number one restaurant. Of all restaurants I know I like it most. I always suggests to my friends to go to this restaurant. everytime I feel like having a decent meal, this place comes first to my head. exeptionalgorgeous and all sorts of food and a rich cuisine.generous staff, and great mood. And very important, the pay is honest. I sent my friends to this place with pleasure.
D. M.
Good kosher restaurant with a big selection of meat dishes (and some vegetarian). Located centrally in London near Baker Street station. Great for kosher travellers who want a good meal away from home. Especially their soups and the beef dishes are tasty.
J. F. d. W.
I was delighted to visit Reuben's after the reopening. The ordering process for the deli was initially a bit baffling but service was great once I'd worked it all out. Delicious salt beef. Will come again.
Y. K.
The only kosher restaurant around London's center. Food is good, but expensive.
H. B.
One of the best restaurants in London. Great tapas and drink selection.
All the food is top class and watching the chefs doing their thing right in front of you is amazing.
This chaotic environment in front of you deceives you as you eat at it is relaxing and you are in your zone, do not feel rushed and can just enjoy all the good food.
All the classics are there such as iberico jamon, croquettes pork belly and octopus.
Do good and order anything because it will be very very good
B. M.
I just had the best lamb chops ever in my life at this modest little place on Baker Street. Who knew? A friend who has been going there for years picked it, and I had my doubts after reading a couple of snarky reviews. But the lamb chops were perfectly cooked and seasoned (and plentiful) the accompanying spinach was fresh and light, and the apple strudel after, studded with dates and with a delicate crust was excellent. A superb Malbec rounded off the meal. Yes, it's kosher, and you can get all the great Jewish specialties there, too (the chopped liver at the next table was calling to me) and their "salt beef" (what we in America called corned beef) was amazing (the hostess brought me some to sample). But really, it's a place to appeal to the gourmet eater of any stripe and an unbelievable bargain at the price. I can't wait to introduce my friends to this secret treasure. Run don't walk to this place.
P. Z.
As always had great experience downstairs and upstairs. Food is great , everything homemade:) and the salt beef to die for!!!
I understand some people might have a bit different experiences but little FYI to the guest below me commenting : Reubens never opens on Friday evenings and all day Saturday's because it's kosher and its Shabbat. Anyways I'm in London a lot and love the salads in fact in my last pregnancy I almost lived there; amazing salt beef and pickles; what more could a pregnant woman want????
M. L.
Food is good. Price is very very high compared the food and service you get you get...
Service is not so bad ...
We use to pay this price in USA but with better quality, variety of food... And of course better service.
Anyway we were happy to find in London city some kosher food to eat...
And they have a "sauce au poivre" amazing !!!
N. L.
Our Favourite resturant for diner. The food is fantastic and I especially like the pate which is the best I have had anywhere. Soup is lovey in the cold weather . All the meat is Eccles t and I like the potatoes and onions. The deserts esp chocolate soufflés is superb. Always enjoy our visit with at tentative friendly staff
P. S.
Minimum spend of £15.00 and a service of £3.50 added onto the bill.
The food costs between £8-£80 and the salt beef is around £27.
The food is good, it’s definitely worth it because if you eat kosher you’ve little choice.
The service is very good and it’s all very clean.
I’d say if you can afford it then no problems, if you eat kosher then yes definitely come here as the nearest is probably Golders Green.
It’s good food, but someone said it’s the best in the world or better than Katz in NYC? Fraid not - it’s 10x better at Katz.
R. R.
Highly recommend Reubens. Everything they served was so delicious and served with a smile. Staff are friendly and made sure all our requests were addressed. Look forward to coming back here very soon!!
P. B.
Great food.Delicious and served quickly. Front of house staff attentive but a little blase. Food very overpriced. Shame. Seating comfortable and not cramped. Almost empty upstairs - didn't check downstairs. Used to go a lot.Not sure if I'll be going back any time soon. Sorry Reubens. Would like to have given more stars but in all honesty, a little disappointed on this occasion.
J. J.
After reading the reviews I am shocked how some people can be so misleading!
Bottom line : this is the best delicatessen in existence in terms of how good and fresh the food is.
Every customer who complained in last reviews was ultimately because they most likely either don’t wana appreciate it enough to pay the prices which are fully worth it, or because they don’t get the concept..
Lady in last reviews: of course if you come in and order just a latke , which is a side for £2.95, the owners would not be happy. Frankly I wouldn’t either! It’s a restaurant and delli that expects customers to appreciate what it is and considering this is a family owned business the owners have the right to refuse serving you for a side dish of 2.95 . It’s like going into a Michelin restaurant and asking just for a side dish or just an espresso.. Be realistic!
The salt beef sandwich is amazing, it may seem a bit pricey 10.95 , however when you see the quantity of meat in the sandwich (I suspect just the meat is probably 150-200 grams) I don’t understand how the restaurant would be able to make a living if they sold such a portion for any cheaper!
You can go and complain to the Jewish organization in charge of the kosher meat to ask them why in New York the kosher meat is 30 percent of the price in London for the same products!
Anyways even if you put the kosher aspect aside, if you go to selfridges brass rail it, your bill won’t come out cheaper, whilst this is the origina. You’re in the West End!
Regarding the service, indeed if I come to the delli it’s on a self service concept which means by definition that you choose from the menu and wait to be served . You can’t book a seat but the staff are very attentive and professional. Yet one has to note that some items on the menu , especially the grilled ones are made fresh to order which means you would have to wait until it’s ready (10-15 min), this is normal as that is why the food is fresh and amazing!
When I ordered a steak (as per last reviews - I took advise and did not regret!), which was the best steak I’ve had in London , the waitress checked when I finished the soup , cleared my plate and politely brought me the steak with a smile !
If you want to have a designated waiter you can book in advance the downstairs restaurant (as I did this week for an important business meeting) and you will be served by a waiter with a slightly different menu and a selection of prime steak (one of the only kosher grilled steak on the bone of premium quality in London !).
I advise people that if they don’t know how to appreciate quality food and a real establishment to go to Starbucks , costa or a McDonald’s !
You ultimately pay for what you get , full stop.
D. W.
Excellent food, highly recommended for a business meal with colleagues or friends and family.
Service was absolutely fine, little bit of banter created a more humorous and relaxed experience.
A little pricey, but to be expected given location and kosher cuisine.
J. R.
Nice enough expresso
On request on what would make it a 5*, I would have to say it's down to personal taste that the expresso was a little sharp, a touch too acidic for my liking - that is the only reason.
T.
This deli has excellent sandwiches, best Reuben sandwich I've had anywhere.
Actually I only had half a Reuben sandwich. My girlfriend couldn't finish it as it was huge. I had just polished off a large and quite good chicken salad sandwich. So I was already full but still that Reuben was just so good I couldn't let it go to waste.
I. B.
Not the best customer service and over-priced for a sandwich. Ordered a salt beef sandwich and paid £11! I wouldn't have minded but customer service and food wasn't great. I feel like they are trying to discourage those who aren't regulars and I shan't be going back.
C. G.
The execution of Reubens was great, the pastrami was really good and so was the bread. However, the meat was not salty enough and the pickles on the sandwich were almost non-existent.
S. W.
The food was tasty but a little on the expensive side for what it was
S. S.
One of two kosher meat places in Central London. Certainly not cheap but it is a kosher meat restaurant in Central London so...
Portion size is reasonable and judging by the wait, it is certainly popular. Food was tasty and portion size reasonable but not what I would term VFM. However, owner/managers lovely people and I would probably return if passing by but would not detour there rather heading a little further into the nearby Hendon/Golders Green areas.
S. A.
I ordered the Reubens Sandwich, it was delicious and the size was huge. The service is superb and great atmosphere. If you're looking for kosher great food, this is the place!
P. K.
Very neat and accessible restaurant. They provide big meals and for reasonable rates. We loved the meals very much and the staff were super affable and explanatory. Highly recommended.
L. b.
Reubens is an establishment of nearly 40 years. Whilst the west end has had thousands of restaurants open and close, Reubens is still standing, and for a good reason!
Firstly the owners are very attentive and put their heart and soul into their food, you see that on the personalized service and attention you get from staff, too.
Notwithstanding one needs to bare in mind that it is a family business and it is not a chain. As a result, it is run like a family. You don’t have managers and staff - everyone is treated well and equal.
One may note that central London is the most expensive real estate in the world, especially on the commercial side the reward is very slim. In parallel the risk of owning and running a place in such a prime location is very high too.
Customer should also note that before considering forming any opinion about any place there are two points to be made: firstly if you go in central London on any high street or side street, 90 percent of the places that serve any kind of food are huge corporate chains who are traded on the public stock exchange. Even some of them are constantly closing down.
The remaining 10% of restaurants that are independent are mostly Michelin level, of famous celebs and are very pricey, the few independent ones that aren’t are still pricey even if dishes seem cheaper than reubens the portions are tiny!
Yes they may be more modern or trendy, but it is a matter of what concept you want and ultimately the way you judge places is relative to what other options you have for price quality and portion size as well as ambiance.
Put all this aside there are two more additional points:
First Reubens is the ONLY kosher restaurant in central London, it is one of two or three Kosher restaurant in London that offers charcole Steak on the grill (I will also reffer to the quality in a moment). Bare in mind that kosher restaurants in London can’t be open on Friday evenings nor on Saturdays, which is when most of hospitality business takes place! Also during Jewish festivals and Passover it has to shut . Which leaves 25%-30% less time to conduct business!
You can also note that some kosher restaurants have closed in the past due to being caught with cheating kosher rules or simply making mistakes. It is known that Reubens only serve ‘glatt meat’ which is the highest standard of kosher rules and is typically 3/4 times more expensive than none kosher meat of the equivalent.
It is supervised under the SKA (Sephardi Kashrut Authority), their meat is under the London Board of Shechita which is a collaboration with KLBD and KF aithorities. There is a culture in London to undermine the authority of SKA but that is simply a marketing approach of the other dominating authorities. There is simply no difference between the SKA and KLBD.
The reason why it is still standing is because the family is dedicated to manage , cook and serve customer from morning to night day in and day out. The entire family are trained chefs and have had years of experience in making food the way it should be made, which is rare nowadays!
Taking about the specific food, Reubens is a fusion of traditional Jewish dishes (such as Gefilte fish , chopped liver , chicken soup with kneidlach , latkes and salt beef) as well as classic dishes such as steak , burgers, grilled meats as well as a selection of freshly made salads.
Reubens is world renowned for serving the original salt beef which is a secret recipe going in the family for generations. American customers come regularly just to compare and admit there is nothing comparable.
You may criticize that Jewish food isn’t your cousins , but there is a great selection of other foods. I would honestly go for the Steak - it is made to perfection!
You can also tell that all dishes are made fresh daily with the most high quality ingredients and dedication.
Put all this aside, Reubens has also been rated as the best delli by various media channels and is known to be considered the best Delli not only by kosher measures but on any measure!
Just being objective.
M. T.
They offer an awesome variety of fresh food. I loved dining here. The employees are always kind, pricing is affordable and the place is always well organised.
G. G.
Best kosher meal out in Central London, nothing quite compares to the salt beef sandwich. Customer service was quite good for a change, but a smile wouldn't go a miss.
R. P.
I had a wonderful experience at this place. We liked the extraordinary ambience and the menu. The staff are very attentive. I’m content we finally decided to try this restaurant.
A. C.
The food here is terrific, the best Shawarma outside of Jerusalem but I think it is expensive for what it is. Good kosher 'earth food'. You will not leave here feeling hungry. We had three shawarma's a portion of chips and three soft drinks. The bill was just under £32.00
P. I.
Very welcoming, Great Service with a smile. And can’t forget to mention the Salt beef sandwich 10/10 !

My first time here. It’s great to have a good kosher restaurant in London. The service in particular was excellent. I look forward to returning.
M. Y.
Came here for the salt beef sandwich which was excellent. NY style beef, London size serving. Their chicken soup was excellent too. Would definitely come back here
J. M.
The Reuben's beef burger needs to be tried to be believed. IMHO, it's the best kosher burger in London, if not the world. Thick, juicy, BBQ'd pattie, topped with generous slices of salt beef. It goes well with a latke (like a rosti or giant hash brown).
The shwarma in laffa is also excellent, being a lot less greasy than other providers.
Even for a central London kosher restaurant, the prices are on the high side, however, the food and the atmosphere are great. I'm always welcomed with warm smiles and friendly hellos. I love taking friends and colleagues when the opportunity arises.
S. H.
Great service all the staff are friendly helping. And the food is just out of this world.
S. S.
I just wish that the salt beef sandwich would be hot instead of Luke warm
o. s.
The full size salt beef sandwiches are amazing the pickles are wonderful as well.
For the sit down restaurant you have a wonderful selection of delicious food.
P. Z.
One of the best Salt Beef places in central London, staff can be ht and miss, but overall friendly. Slat Beef on rye, mustard and pickle - the winning combination.
T. C.
ENJOYED THE FOOD AND SERVICE. MIKHAIL SERVED MYSELF AND MY WIFE ON OUR 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY. SHE HAD THE DUCK WHICH WAS DELICIOUS AND I HAD THE BURGER WITH SALT BEEF- EXCELLENT BUT VERY FILLING. ENJOYED IT! THANKS
V. P.
"THE" kosher restaurant in London. It looks a little old school, which is why I loved it so much. Everything kosher you ask for IS kosher indeed, whereas there's also a good offer for parve and non-kosher customers. If you pop by, the Rioja is a must when you're matchin it with their well-reknown steak!
J. (.
Infuriatingly slow service, with angry lunch hour workers demanding refunds, but decent food and wine as ever
B. B.
Really nice decor, friendly staff. Food was delicious, had the Reuben sandwich. Was very tasty. Only thing that I'd criticise is the prices. But for what it is, it's worth it. Definitely recommend a visit.
J. J.
The pros:
A classic institutional eatery providing hot lashings of salt beef and chicken soup.
The cons:
Drab, old fashioned stale atmosphere. Extortionate prices. Uncomfortably rigid rules with certain things, such as the rule to ask a member of staff for a glass, the minimum £20 card limit, the itemised napkins.
Would recommend:
The 'reuben sandwich', with a latke and a side of apple sauce.
G. G.
This spot is worth a visit. They have big portions for fair prices. Constantly well organized and with good atmosphere. Would recommend to others.
A. J.
Loved the food there. It was awesome with an awesome customer service. Love the menu!!!!

I have been going to Reubens for years. The staff are extremely helpful. The food is delicious and reasonably priced given it's kosher and in the West End. It's a lovely, welcoming, family restaurant.
C. M.
Delicious!
Highly recommended!
Thanks Mikel for such
an amazing experience :)
Y. C.
Food ok, albeit expensive. Served us soup at same time as main course so ended up having a cold meal.
R. C.
Best chicken shawarma in London - delicious brisket, mustard and pickles. Always the right time to stop by, relax and eat/drink well! thank you
Y. K.
Food is ok to good. Prices seem high but it is one of the only kosher restaurant's in the area. also offers a deli counter style ordering/seating.
J. H.
Reubens has been a family favourite for generation's famous for its mouthwatering salt beef. It's easily accessible from bakerstreet tube and parking can be found in the surrounding area.
P. P.
I had Lokshen (v nice as I remember my grandma making) Salt beef in rye (what else) latke (huge) very nice and brought back happy memories of Blooms...
O. S. (.
I ate here twice, and twice was sorry about it later (terrible stomach aches) - i had grilled fish both times which tasted good, and deserts... I can't say which you should avoid, but go only for safe food like schnitzel or soup
R. K.

A. T.
Excellent food, excellent service.

Had the reubens sandwich. Nice enough, but probably not worth £16. Could benefit from a more artisinal feel.
e. t.
Old fashioned, food is OK, not more
M. L.
Nice food, a bit pricey. Staff need a lesson in hospitality. No welcome, customers merely tolerated.
J. S.
The only kosher restaurant in Central London. Refurbished, revamped, refreshed. Good lunch menu
D. S.
A great Jewish + Kosher deli in the heart of London. Order at the counter and eat upstairs or head downstairs for the full service restaurant. Make sure you get a salt beef.
