Reviews of Rick Stein, Barnes
A. V.
We were recently celebrating our anniversary and sons birthday at Rick Stein Barnes. It was an amazing dinner. My son has a long list of severe food allergies and its not always safe for us to eat out but here at Rick Stein staff is extremely careful with food orders re allergies. They took care of everything. Restaurant manager Sebastian was looking after us and all went well. Food was delicious, great atmosphere too and a riverside view is stunning 😍. Definitely recommend 👌 and definitely will return for a great family meal 😋.

Beautiful location with a great private car park. Very professional, helpful and friendly waiters. Amazing riiverside view from our table (as with most of the seating there). Top class Tartare Sauce. I would return just for that. Perfectly cooked Grilled Miso Salmon with Noodles. Autographed copies of Rick and Jack Steins' books available to buy on location and a Chocolate Pave with Salted Caramel Ice-cream to die for! Everything you could possibly hope for. Very clean and comfortable. We highly recommend this restaurant. Well done Rick!

Been to Rick Stein's Barnes twice. Each time we have had very enjoyable meal. The restaurant serves excellent sea food. We particularly enjoyed the Amritsar Cod for starters and the excellent Thai fish cakes. The set menu rotates every few months, so best to always check online first. The views are nice, next to the river (though the river thames itself needs a good clean).
Super service, super food. Will return. Thankyou.

Nice restaurant, lovely view of the river. Food was quite good, but not sure I'm convinced of the ratio between the food's "poshness" and its price. Had the tuna guacamole starter, which tasted refreshing, and the seafood curry, which was nice but the beans on the side were a bit too raw for my taste - and certainly too much garlic.
R. O.
Pretty much from start to finish a great meal and experience at this riverside restaurant. Food was incredibly tasty and for the first time ever in any restaurant arriving at an appropriate time with minimal fuss. Service was also the very best, warm, welcoming and polite.
S.
Delicious food and lovely location. A good selection of dishes at varying price points, although still at the higher end. Friendly staff who didn’t rush us.
R. C.
Beautifully cooked food, a wonderful menu to choose from and a relaxed ambience that complemented the very polite and helpful members of staff, WELL WORTH a visit!
I. I.
We went there for lunch. We got saganaki haloumi and prawns for starters. For mains we got fish and chips and rib-eye steak. The startes were tasty, but the mains just ok. We had higher expectations, especially for fish and chips. Nice river views.
H. F.
Lovely atmosphere and view onto the river. All our dishes were delicious especially the starters (halloumi and chicken salad).
A.
Great seafood restaurant! Lovely atmosphere, overlooking Thames and very welcoming staff.
The food was lovely and family friendly. Will definitely visit again.
M. S.
Outstanding food and ambience. Excellent service but...
don't get the oysters🤦♂️ they gave me the worst runs I had in years
L. W.
Beautiful setting, simple food done exceptionally well and excellent service.
J. W.
The setting and decor was lovely. The service was fine but could have been more attentive. The food was generally good, with the exception of the padrón peppers, that were actually spicy jalapeño peppers. Also, the sauce on the slow braised pork was so salty (soy), it was almost inedible. The desserts were excellent.
C. O.
We had a selection of appetisers and starters for lunch instead of a large plate of food. Langoustines seem overly priced and a challenge to prise any food from. It was my first time eating these so perhaps that is normal (?) The oysters, scallops and sardines were all delicious. Rick Stein champagne was crisp and lovely. They do Bloody Mary's too even though not listed on the drinks menu. Nice decor and ambience. Staff were friendly, accommodating, professional and all wore masks which was good. One of our dishes was served by a dude in jeans and a puffer jacket at one stage, like he just walked in off the street, which seemed a bit odd but no matter we got our food :)
R. C.
Eloquent simple tastes, beautiful food with satisfying portion sizes and reasonably priced considered the level of food and service! Highly recommend!
H. R.
Great location, comortable restaurant and very professional service. We ordered Oysters as an appetiser which were good. For mains we had the lemon sole and the seabass which were fine but a bit underwhelming. The sides were either undercooked or under seasoned and we were served bread that was on the burnt side of toasted for our taste. Enjoyed the meal but unlikely to repeat.
V.
Good service, but we were less impressed with the food. The beetroot curry was not great. The fish and chips was nice but not particularly better than our local pub. The smoked salmon starter came with surprisingly stale bread. I think our expectations were simply too high.
Bottom line: I would go for the ambience and the service, but I would expect to be underwhelmed by the food.
D. B.
Rick Stein is one of my food hero’s so was worried the restaurant wouldn’t live up to my expectations..:it did…lovely setting on the Thames friendly service and the food was outstanding…my wife mentioned it was my birthday treat when she booked it a month before we went…and when I ordered my dessert the Chef had wrote Happy Birthday in chocolate on my plate a lovely touch that they remembered…would defo recommend Rick is still my food hero !!
R. M.
We enjoyed our lunch here. Lovely food, usual good wine list and views over the river (with some tables - not ours, unfortunately- overlooking the river).
Y. G.
Excellent service, lovely view and well executed dishes.
Fish and chips was excellent with very light batter. Lobster risotto was also very good.
Choco bomb was a blast for pudding.
C. G.
So good to be back to a warm welcome and superb food. Dover sole and lobster thermidore were especially good as well as huge mussels and the freshest crab!
c. o.
I was sceptical about how good the food was going to be at this establishment after being very disappointed by restaurants who put a celebrity chef and leave the kitchen to run itself, on the contrary it was one of the best fish meals I have had all year. Fresh, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented and very reasonably priced for the quality of both the food and service. I will be certainly visiting Rick Stein again.
D. P.
Nothing was too much trouble for the kind and attentive staff.
The food was really good but the starters of mussels was the real star
S. B.
We booked a table for 4 at 3:30pm for a late lunch. We were give a lovely table looking out to the river, but it wasn't ready until the very last minute.
Service was on the slow side and most of the time we felt neglected. We had to call the waitress to get some more water and a 2nd bottle of wine. The staff just wasn't very attentive. The food lacked any presentation style as you can see on the pictures, but it was tasty. When we finished a meal we waited a long time to get the bill which never came so we had to call the manager over who did not deal well with our complaints about the service.

Went here Sunday evening and it was amazing. Staff make you feel at home straight away. The food was delicious and drinks tasty. Will definitely be going here again.
A. C.
Even though I'm not much of a seafood kind of guy, I still really enjoyed the food. The atmosphere was chilled and not snobby. The service was great and I'd like to go back during the day, to check out the views we no doubt missed.
A. R.
Wow absolutely amazing the food was fantastic the lobster and steak was to die for and the service was excellent the very best. We can't wait to return.
C. C.
Incredible evening celebrating my birthday at the restaurant. We were blown away by the teams knowledge of dishes and wine pairings, and their kindness. All three courses we had were delicious (including the dessert wine!). The Turbot was divine, as were the scallops. Jean-Francois in particular was an absolute pleasure. The host with the most! I highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back! From start to finish an amazing experience.
W.
My husband and I love coming here. Lovely views, delicious seafood and a great selection of wine + cocktails.
We have been a few times for breakfast, sadly that hasn’t been amazing and could use some improvements. Still gets a five star as the restaurant shouldn’t been missed #localgem
M. M.
Incredible services despite two noisy and grumpy toddlers. Food was divine, even some small adjustments made for fussy eater. And the view, the setting, even on a slightly stormy day, it was beautiful.
C. S.
Great date night meal. We started with a drink at the bar, lovely selection of wine and time to browse the menu at leisure. We didn’t have a table overlooking the river but we still had a lovely table. I had the risotto to start which was very flavoursome followed by the fish and chips. I was very pleased with the fish and chips but nothing tops the chocolate desert which was extremely rich but out of this world! We felt very welcomed by the head waiter who asked us how everything was at the end and had a little chat with us which was lovely. Can’t wait to go back!
C. W.
Fantastic casual and friendly atmosphere. Friendly and attentive staff. The food was outstanding, especially the scallops. We had a lovely view at a window table and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience . Would highly recommend and return
V. L.
I'll be very critical here. Potential ....loads of potential. But this place looks like a D&D restaurant, very corporate.
Staff all over the place dropping glasses every 30 minutes. This sets the tone.
In the plates, more importantly, the food is nice. Not the biggest portion to say, but honest cooking. Good products. This is what every seafood restaurant should be in the UK. Though this one sets a good level, we should expect more high level, especially from Rick Stein.
Starters are successive carousel of good ingredients simply dropped on a plate. No real inventive cooking. just OK plating.
Glad I had my choice as a main, it was tasty. Nice piece of Brill with truffe sauce. Not the most complex dish, but at least done nicely.
Not putting the picture of the Tarte Tartin as a dessert. It was more a pizza with average apple on top.
very very corporate.
No wonder local people will find this amazing, it's the only good local restaurant certainly in Barnes.
But come on, this should be one michelin star if the chef and certainly Rick Stein would really take some time to redefine the direction of this wharf old house.
If he wants it on the Barnes map, carry on, if you want it on the London and even international map, there are serious things to refine and improve. From presentation to impecable service. Seems like Rick Stein dropped this restuarant as a name to be in London, but not pushing himself to be really Rick Stein in London.
But maybe this is not the aim for that full of potential place.
One good note, the Rick Stein White burgundy, note of Chabli for decent price.
D. O.
Beautiful location, wonderful ambiance. The staff were very attentive (aside from one forgotten dish), we were a party of 9. The food was beautifully presented, however some meals were not completely hot, additionally some were slightly bland. I had the crab linguine but felt it was missing that oomph in terms of flavour, the linguine was cooked to perfection though. The desserts were amazing, we all thoroughly enjoyed them. Coffee after (a couple of rhem were again lukewarm). It was nice but not amazing or spectacular, holding them to higher standard due to the profile and price point of the meals.
S. T.
Great location by t river Thames. Delicious food and friendly service. Thank you

Adrian is absolutely superb. A true asset to that restaurant. Attentive, knowledgeable and professional.

I can't recommend the restaurant enough. We decided to have our wedding lunch with friends and family here this weekend and couldn't have made a better decision. The service was second to none and the food was sensational. We'll go back in a heartbeat.
L. P.
Lovely atmosphere and great food 😊
S. B.
Very nice fish restaurant...unfortunately I don't eat fish ...had a really nice duck shepherd's pie...
I thing they could do with having a few more non fish options..
R. K.
One of the best fish and chips... But the cheese cake with salted caramel and pop corn was out of this world.
S. B.
Lovely location Staff fine.
My kipper very salty almost uneatable. No marmalade for breakfast hot drinks had to be bought individually so top ups money gathering exercise
C. F.
Oyster were nice and grilled hake was marvellous. Probably the halibut was not so soft as expected however good. Overall excellent service and great food
V. M.
Lovely food. Staff a bit quiet and businesslike.

Rick stein has changed the whole menu recently, that's very disappointing. Old menu has been the best one and new menu is not really attractive. For example, seafood platter, Singapore crab, spicy seabass fillet and chocolate foundue have all disappeared in the new menu. And I don't know what can be ordered now, nothing looks as good as before.
I would say the only selling point of rick stein is the riverside environment and friendly staffs now, but definitely not the the foods.
Hope they can improve and get the old menu back.
R. E.
It was our first visit to Barnes and it didn't disappoint. We've been to Sandbanks and Padstow before and Barnes also keeps the same high quality service and food as we've come to love. The staff are really friendly and attentive as well.
M. H.
We had a lovely Irish lady Alice serving us that night, absolutely amazing. 5 stars for her attentiveness and care for her customers . Thanks Alice .
The food however wasn’t up to par. The mackerel fillet starter wasn’t really a fillet but more like 3 very small cut pieces off a mackerel fillet .I know this is a top star restaurant but the size was ridiculous .A fillet was advertised on the menu and that’s not what I got . Not to mention that the food was rather bland and not well salted. The mussels however were exquisite. Very fresh and delicious. The main course of the fish and chips was great. Probably the best I have had in a very long time. Also the issue with the salt arose. I ordered the seafood gratin which again as a main course should be bigger than a few mouthfuls. Very nice but one prawn and a scallop and some cod really not a main course but more like a starter.
G. M.
Had a brilliant (no pun) Turbot fish cooked simply but well. The sashimi platter was also good and sourced trout the sea variety. Safely never with river trout. My wife enjoyed chilli crab although it was too sweet (A local crab really doesn't fit a Thai dish like a tropical crab suits) and ny wufe shoukd know. It came with noodles when rice is more apt. But staff were very helpful and the experience was a resounding success. Been before. Will again.
J.
The service was excellent, Covid precautions put in place so felt very safe and clean. But £20 for fish and chips.... Really? I mean it was terrific fish and chips, but there's a shop in Ealing that does the same thing, with more authentic chip shop chips for a third of the price. Just thought the prices were on the borderline of excessive. Fish was very well done, but definitely expected given the premium price paid. Value for money wasn't really there in my opinion.
G. M.
Amazing dinner and service! the quality of the food is excellent and the new dish really amazing! The staff so kind and lovely. Thanks!
H. C.
Love love love the food. Staff are always so welcoming and friendly. Bonus for the lovely view ✨
C. F.
Oyster were nice and grilled hake was marvellous. Probably the halibut was not so soft as expected however good. Overall excellent service and great food

What can I say... firstly the views over themes is second to none reserve a booth table and watch the sunset... tres romantic. Second the staff were truly amazing above and beyond expectations third, not because it should be in third place but because there is so much positive to say about it the menu. Let's start with the sticky toffee pudding omg, heaven on any receiving lips I suggest you don't share lol. Lobster was a treat full succulent bodied and delicately flavoured, mussels plump in a white wine sauce (and you can request no cream) sea food delight, close your eyes and you are on board a vessel of choice. Needless to say would certainly recommend
H. L.
Would be great if the menu listed GF etc. But food was great and definitely better than our last visit.
K. M.
Very good food, but, for the price, not great. The quality on the ingredients was excellent and the cooking, perfect, though not creative.
Service was excellent and the staff, very friendly, attentive, and professional.
P. W.
Exquisite! Food, service, all of the highest degree. A double helping of padron peppers, oysters charentaise for starter, fish & chips for main; my friend (out celebrating her birthday) had the lobster, which looked divine!! Perfect 11/10 if there were such a thing 💙💙💙
R. F.
Service was excellent, as was the food and wine.
Full to capacity on a Saturday night the service was great and just a couple of things weren't available on the desert menu.

Super location with professional and attentive service. We were given a table on the Riverside so this was very pleasing. Padron peppers were very tasty. I ordered from the set menu and chose prawn cocktail which was delicious and fish cakes which were a little bit too salty for my liking, but egg and salad were enjoyable to eat. My missus had fish and seafood soup for starters and this was full of flavour, but she was a bit disappointed with the crab linguini as there was little or no sauce. Skin on chips on the side were tasty and generously portioned. White wine carafe from Spain was refreshing and not too expensive. Next time I will try the hake on the set menu as I overheard others rave about it.
A. M.
Amazing food. Really recommend. One of my favorites in Barnes.
M. y.
Great evening, Roberto(manager) and his team did a great job all night. Quality of food and service it was absolutely brilliant. Definitely will go again!
P. &. J. H.
Really good fish restaurant; the Dover sole is a treat and there is a large range of options for fish and seafood lovers. Bill is reasonable!
B. C.
Seafood heaven! Maybe not as adventurous as other great seafood restaurants I've been to recently but all the food looked and tastes great. Great service and cocktails by Mr Lyan. Very nice evening
L. W.
The staff are friendly and polite. The lunch are reasonable price. The view are amazing. Lobster chips are recommended!
B. B.
Food was tasty but generally found the service to be lacking. When spending over £200 on two person lunch for your anniversary you expect to be spoilt - instead the welcome was fairly cold, an appetiser was undelivered, plates took an age to be cleared and at one point I had to go walkabout to order drinks. Some of the staff were great, others need to work on their attentiveness and friendliness. As I say, food was really nice but we won't be rushing back.
W. W.
Had a fabulous dinner there celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and also a belated 21st birthday of our son. Food was excellent. Friendly & helpful staff. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Highly recommended !
A. S.
Hmmmmm!!! Best seafood place. Very friendly staff, lovely ambience.....but load your wallet before you visit. I will definitely be back there.
J. G.
I just came over because it's on my way to work and I got an offer with my Richmond Card for a Coffee and a Croissant. I was really impressed by the athmosphere there. Love the view on the Themse and that there were many plants inside.
Just wanted to get something for take away but but I was offered a seat as I waited for my Croissant so I ended up drinking my coffee there. Perfect start in the day!
I can't say anything about the food but the Coffee was very good and the staff was very friendly and polite!
I. C.
What a restaurant. They've done a great job with the interior and the river views are stunning. The menu is classic (Rick) fish and shellfish with a couple of veg and meat options.
The fish soup and the Singapore Chill Crab are stand out dishes. Id also go for the fruits der Mer
The wine list had some great wines too. Albirinio was delicious.
The lunch deal is very good value too.
Overall a great new open fir London and worth the trip West.
R. K.
One of the best fish and chips... But the cheese cake with salted caramel and pop corn was out of this world.
R. S.
Never had such tasty food in a restaurant. Friendly people, lovely view and yummy food. Made my day.
D. T.
Amazing seafood with a classy atmosphere and helpful staff that are more than happy to teach you about the food and suggest perfect pairings
L. J.
We went there for our anniversary lunch. A lovely location on the River Thames and the food was delicious
N. B.
Very nice especially the salt cod brandade, but the ray wing was a bit overcooked and that lady took away my wine drink before it was quite finished, perhaps she was thirsty.
C. L.
Amazing food. Great service. Great wine list. What else do you need? You won't be disappointed.
E.
The staff are lovely, but I ordered the Vietnamese chicken salad and it was not pleasant, in fact, I could barely eat it, it was over salty, chicken was rubbery in texture and the whole salad tasted of fish. Perhaps ok if you have seafood but for the price point not worth it - won't be going back for food, cocktails were nice though.
O. B.
This restaurant provides excellent service as well as delicious meals. The best spot in town. The meals served quick and the rates are affordable. I recommend this place.
M. R.
Lovely restaurant very relaxed
lovely staff attentive and professional
Looking forward to returning soon

It was a very disappointing experience. The location is still lovely - we used to go a lot when was The Depot. Now after 4 years living in France we decided to try under Rick Stein Barnes’ brand.
Perhaps was the wrong evening as atmosphere and service are based on the Head & Chef on duty, the staff on the floor. However, reputations are created on consistencies of a high food standards and service delivered.
The service was extremely rushed, the waiter although friendly simply didn’t give us much time. Between ordering the drinks, starters e main, there was no gap in service, felt like they want to get rid off people and go home.
The table was booked for 9.15pm not that late isn’t it?
On food side 6.5 out of 10. My husband was very disappointed with fish food- very bland and his Indonesian prawn curry was okish. My Hake was fine, nothing outstanding and my Oysters as a starter were good, although I ate much better in France and at Hollywood Arms in Chelsea but if you are not a connoisseur in Oysters worth to try.
Overall experience were 5, so won’t be returning because for what we paid and what we got really didn’t worth the effort. Pity because the setting is lovely !
I. C.
Best meal I've had in a long time and the service is excellent! Only disappointment was some of the puddings were not available - not great for the reputation. Still, I'm going back for lunch soon!
L. S.
Exceptional service and food, visited with my flatmate last weekend. The black risotto and sea bass are exceptional.
I. M.
Lovely seafood. Not just Cornish style but also influenced by Rick's books and TV. Approx £100pp for 3 courses plus wine.
J. V. A.
I sent this to Chef Stein.....
Dear Chef Stein,
Just a short message to let you know how extraordinary your staff is at Barnes.
I have been in the hospitality business for over thirty-five years and I can honestly say without a doubt that this is the first restaurant I have been to that ALL the staff is stand-out brilliant in service and personal charm. I must say that your Matitre d' Jean-Francois is an absolute asset to your company and just for him alone we would return regularly to your restaurant.
T. K.
Great food. Great service. View was outstanding! Will come back!
S. S. (.
Lovely service, food was good, fresh fish but nothing exceptional, curry could have done with some vegetables in it and more than 1 poppadom would have been nice too!
Crème brulé was perfect !
C. C.
Food was great, staff are friendly. No wheelchair access for toilets. Was difficult to assist my client in the loo...
A. C.
Awesome, food is really tasty and you get a choice of fresh fish.
Cornish Lobster was amazing

We went to Rick Steins last night, Tuesday 18th May. The staff were happy to see us and we so happy to be back and eating indoors. We couldn’t fault either the service or the food. It’s one of our favourite restaurants. If it’s fish your after then this is the place to go.
E. B.
We went here to celebrate our anniversary which coincided with the lifting of lockdown restrictions (12april). We had never been to a Rick Stein restaurant before, but both are fans of fish/seafood and admire him as a chef. However the overall experience left us both feeling flat.
On a positive note the oysters were delicious, the fish curry main was nice with a good portion size, and the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake was delightful.
However on the website there was no mention of a reduced menu nor the fact they were not offering the set menu, which led to some disappointment when we were asked to choose our dishes. There were only 6 mains to choose from (one of which was steak and one vegetarian option). The starters were bought over whilst we were still eating our oysters as an appetiser, which meant we felt rushed and the table was rather cluttered. The prawn starter used big prawns but was slightly disappointing flavour wise. The fish and chips were pleasant but over priced for what you got. We struggled to find someone to request the bill from, and once we got the bill we then struggled to get the attention of a server to actually pay (we waited at least 10mins for them to bring the card reader over despite the fact it wasn't particularly busy).
The atmosphere was ok, but the waiting staff seemed distant, and whilst polite were not particularly friendly or inviting.
Overall, we left feeling rather disappointed and probably would not return again. Perhaps it was just due to the fact it was their opening day after lockdown, but we felt that nearly £150 for a meal for 2 would have been better.
J. R.
The dining experience exceeded my expectations. Food amazing, staff attentive, location stunning.
D. A. H.
Very large menu. Great service and fresh fish. Somehow I was expecting more.....
L. P.
Lovely atmosphere and great food 😊

Had a great evening at Rick Stein's. From the friendly welcome by the very polite and efficient staff, to the fantastic food. Highly recommend the salt cod brandade as an appetizer and the fish and chips or seafood curry as a main. To be fair though all the dishes that were being brought out look so good.
Also the pavlova and the classic lemon tart for desserts are just incredible...
All in all we had a brilliant night and a lovely experience.. definitely be back..

Great location by t river Thames. Delicious food and friendly service. Thank you

Always great service, a very varied, good menu and a lovely ambiance.

Wonderful dining. Beautiful ambience, great food- seafood mostly- and a very comprehensive wine list.

Just fantastic. The views, the service, the food. All was really good and enjoyable

Amazing location on the Thames coupled with the best seafood I've ever eaten in London.
C. M.
Tasty, delicious food and drink. Friendly staff
C. G.
Delicious meal. I chose from the short lunch menu and loved my food. Fantastic setting overlooking the river. I deducted a star only because it was very hot and blinds on the top windows would have been sensible we thought.
Also, when we asked the waiter if they could do a plateau de fruits de mer he said he would go and check... he came back with the wine list and asked if we could see it on there :-)
J. A.
Excellent fish, I had sea bass and M had fish and chips absolutely excellent.

Relaxing atmosphere, friendly and professional staff made us feel at ease and had good recommendations! Supremely fresh oysters, and the fish dishes are light and refreshingly simple. Worth a visit!
M. M.
Delicious fish dishes and seafood fare. The courtyard is lovely on a fine summer evening, but the best spot is with a river view inside. The staff were welcoming and friendly and our waitress, although she confessed to normally working in the kitchen was absolutely fantastic.
D. N.
Situated in a mews adjacent to the Thames, in Barnes, the Rick Stein restaurant is in a prime location. However there is no off-street parking so one needs to factor in some extra time to find an on-street parking space nearby.
Overall, there was a very pleasant ambience, the service was friendly and attentive and the food was nice, if not exceptional. I had the traditional Cod and Chips, which I was really looking forward to. Added to this, the Covid-Compliance measures in place at the venue seemed thorough.
However, although the quality was good, the piece of fish I was served was only a little over half the size one would get at a high street chippy and there were only six (yes 6!) chunky chips, all neatly arranged in a stack.
So although I enjoyed both the meal and the occasion, the portion size really was a bit disappointing. I'm sure that at least a few more chips would not have eaten too much into the profit margin!
S.
Good fish, very expensive mains, staff friendly and nice.
T. H.
Beautifully designed and cooked dishes in a nicely decorated place on the waters edge in Barnes. I had the Indonesian Seafood Curry which was great and tried the amazing scallops and oysters with sausage too. We came for dinner but wished slightly that we came in the day or earlier evening to see the river views which weren't visible after dark.

Lovely experience tonight!
Everything was amazing, from food to service and all staff was very attentive and professional.
Thanks especially to Hannah and her outstanding service.
We will be back!

Top food. Top service. Top location. Will definitely go there again.
K. B.
Really liked the atmosphere, very bucolic. Lovely food, unpretentious service and reasonable price. Will be returning!

I have had the pleasure of visiting several restaurants where food was fantastic and Rick Stein, Barnes is definitely one of them. The food is of high quality and well prepared. However, what I would like to praise most of all is the service. I feel the staff went above and beyond for us to have an amazing experience. Highly recommend this restaurant!
B. O.
This is my second visit and all I can say is well done. Our food was top draw, our waiter was fantastic. He helped with our choices, and listened to what I liked in a wine and came back with an absolutely wonderful choice. He was brilliant.
Well done everyone

Great food and good service
Z. M.
Nothing but top marks for these guys. Took my partner for her birthday dinner and she hasn’t stopped raving about it since. Very attentive staff from start to finish- great food/wine choice and most importantly very tasty. I came in the evening after sunset so I’m pretty sure during the day and evening with the view of the Thames it would be even better. Will be back again for sure.
H. R.
Good service and an ok menu. Disappointing not to have some main dishes available. Surprised that no crab dishes on menu in a fish and seafood restaurant or any daily specials. Never mind.
M. F.
Great experience. Presentation of the food was simple but flavour was amazing. Portion sizes were good, and the service very friendly. We had a table right by the river. Stand-out dishes were the black risotto and the fish curry. For not much more than a normal gastropub we felt we had a really high-end meal.
K. B.
Beautiful ambience and views. Friendly unpretentious service. lovely food and fairly priced. We will be returning
M. M.
The food, wine and service were flawless, we were even moved to a window table once one had become available, and the view was spectacular at sunset.
R. O.
Love Rick and his team! We were blessed with a sunny March lunchtime spot outside and very attentive waiting staff. As you would expect, the food was superb
B. H.
Aperitif and starters were OK. Main dishes for all three of us were over cooked, both vegetables and fish in my case.
Service wasn't great either, we were offered someone else's dish more than once. Wouldn't trek all the way to Barnes again. Overall not recommended.
J.
Cool setting, great view, good service and tasty fish.
J. P.
Have dined here a few times and have always enjoyed the food however this time it felt overpriced and slightly underwhelming. Seafood curry was on the bland side and could have done with more fish. Fish and chips were a crowd pleaser, ample sized serving and crisp batter. Starters were ok. Menu needs to be changed more frequently and dessert menu could do with more interest.
M. M.
Really lovely restaurant on the water. Friendly staff and a well placed menu. The salt and pepper asian squid was absolutely fabulous....and the fish and chips is cooked to perfection. Thoroughly recommend.
k. M.
Just amazing! Food was spectacular and to top it all Rick Stein himself was in the building having dinner. Just perfect
C. B.
As usual, a sublime experience! Simple food, prepared perfectly with the most exquisite combination of flavours! Worth every penny over and over again.
M. C.
We had the most amazing meal and were made to feel very welcome. The waiters were so friendly and the Maitre D Jean-Francois was the perfect host. Three of us ordered different starters, mains and dessert and everything was divine.
We visit the Padstow seafood restaurant several times a year for the love of Ricks menu, combined with the top service and Barnes did not let us down as an interim to those visits.
Back next week and the only thing that could improve on last time is meeting the man himself!!
H. P.
Very glad we went.
We’d been past the restaurant many times, and more often since Hammersmith Bridge has been closed. But until last night we’d not been in. Hard to put a finger on why, but possibly due to an adverse review going back to when it opened? Perhaps the fact we could only get a table for eight at 6pm on a Tuesday night tells a great recovery story. We enjoyed excellent food and that rare thing - attentive but not intrusive service. Most of us had the three-course set menu at £37.50 which provided plenty of choices. With drinks it added up to £110.80 per couple - par for the course for a good London restaurant. The ambience and decor were fine for a dark evening but I suspect it’s lovely during the day with the views of the river. All of us are likely to go back for more.
B. M.
Loved it. Great ingredients. Nonfuzzy presentation and fabulous taste. Everything we had was soooooo good.
A. W.
It is great news that we have Rick Stein back in business - it is buzzing like before and still not easy to get a table. Menu is pretty much the same - safe and bland, and in my opinion needs a slight refresh. Staff here remain attentive as ever and service is prompt. Probably one of the most scenic places in London for a meal if you get a table by one of the many windows.
J. A.
Nice coffee, wine and music.
Do not expect frills; do expect gutsy, strong flavours doused in butter and oil - Husband loved it.
Pricey scallops were swimming in butter - it did say 'with hazelnut butter', but maybe on the side?
Being intolerant to onions (never understood how they help fish?), I was disappointed that the ray wing (£21 a pop) came with an oniony, tomato sauce - no one suggested serving it without this (including me which, was an oversight). The crab linguine also came with onions so I asked what didn't have onions and they replied they would do it without onions.
It was way too oily so I left it and reasonably I wasn't charged for it.
Didn't bother with a pud - tried husband's sticky toffee pudding which was nice but I couldn't have eaten lots of it.
Ladies toilet was scruffy- lights coming away from the wall, missing wallpaper, plasticy sink backing also coming away from the wall.
Luckily they had NZ wine, I enjoyed the music (Doors and Jefferson Airplane) and the coffee was good - I would have liked a small macaroon to dunk but hey ho.
Husband can take a strong girl from the village or a buddy if he plans to return - I do not.
G. C.
This was the first time we went there, and it was a pleasant discovery. The restaurant is right on the Tames, with a nice view on the river and a romantic atmosphere.
The menu focuses mainly on fish, and in fact we ordered fish soup and sardines as starters, and crab linguini and sea bream as mains. While the linguini was so-so, the rest was very good, especially the sea bream which was delicious.
The desserts are OK, but are not on the same level with the rest of the menu.
Finally, the staff is very professional and always there for you. The bill was a bit high maybe, but not too much.
A. K.
Lovely setting on the river - food was good but issue with the extraction fans in the kitchen caused the fire alarms to go off and the kitchen to close!! We were served starters and desserts and plenty of lovely bread and butter. Staff coped well and we did receive a good discount on the bill.
J. F.
Undoubtedly the best seafood in town! Highly recommended!
J. B.
Perfect position, right by the river. We were given a table by the window - fab views.
We chose from the special Christmas lunch menu; four choices of starters, mains and puddings. My husband and I live in Portugal and are used to having very fresh fish, expertly prepared. We both chose the baked sea bream at Rick's and we weren't disappointed. With a starter of Guinea fowl terrine (delicious) and an individual Christmas pudding for pudds, we were very happy. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable - thank you!
D. G.
Amazing! Fantastic food with beautiful views.
G. J.
It could have been I'd built up visiting RS in Barnes too much to not find fault in almost everything expected from a restaurant of this standard/price.
Jug of Luke warm water didn't hit the mark to kick things off, margarita was ok, salt used around glass rim was big rock salt, it felt a little weighty. Waitress was attentive enough, food was tasty, but it was just OKAY! I wouldn't recommend it as a memorable evening or meal.
B. K.
Wonderful Evening ~ food was amazing, wine was well selected
A. I.
Really nice location on the river. We didn't get a table by a window and were infact directly behind a wall. Food was all in all very nice. A bit underwhelming to be honest. Mussels were very nice, incredibly garlicky which I enjoyed. Crab linguine was nothing special. Rhubarb Crumble was lovely. Service was quick and subtle. However it was also quite condescending. Overall not as good as I hope but a pleasant location and meal.
J. B.
Food was great as always but the jug of luke warm tap water did not start the evening off well. Then having to find someone to offer me a proper drink for 10 minutes was not ideal. To then order a bottle of champagne to be given the wrong one I found astounding. Maybe it was because I was wearing shorts and didnt look like I was a serious customer or something. In summary food was good but attention to detail not so.
T. K.
Sea bass cooked to perfection and a baked Alaska that I'd do unspeakable things for.
m. a.
We went to the Rick Stein restaurant in Barnesfor a romantic dinner on a Saturday night. The location is really special as it is set in a really pretty courtyard and faces the river with a great panoramic terrace.
The staff is all very competent, polite and kind. The menu is dominated by fish dishes which suited us perfectly. We shared 2 starters and 2 mains, and they were all exquisite, but the winner is surely the dover sole.
One note about the wine list... I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to see such a wide choice of relatively reasonably priced wines.
we will be back!
D. L.
great food great location great staff and a wonderful evening
M. C.
Good service, but feel as if the food was fairly average. I ordered the steak, which came with a small pile of leaves/salad. The steak itself was unevenly cooked. Rare in places and medium in others. It was ok, but for £27 i would expect something better. Felt a bit cheap, with plastic plants etc. Requested window table when booking, but didnt get one.
C. J.
Super knowledgeable, kind, friendly waitress, and superb halibut. Love the peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake too! Only very slight criticism of the hollandaise sauce which would have benefitted from a teeny tiny bit more acidity. Overall a wonderful experience and most enjoyable evening.
l. G.
Over priced for what you get. Although the staff working there are exceptional.
I found a stanless steal metle screw in my pudding? Think it may have fallen of a kitchen unit..... very random. Hopefully the owner has given the staff the tools nessisery to do what they need to work efficiently. I hate dinning in over priced restaurants when the staff are left to struggle and there needs and conserns not headed, while the owner rakes it in. I hope this is not the case hear. Units should not be loosing screws.
S. H.
We popped in to get the take away fish and chips but didn't realise you had to book a slot. Jean Francois very kindly bent over backwards and arranged for us to order and have them within 20 minutes without having to wait until there was an available slot. He could have easily just left it at telling us how to order as per the procedure but took the time to fix it for us which we were super impressed with. Thank you, Jean Francois!
A. R.
Amazing, really like this place. We have been looking for a good fish restaurant for some time and finally found this place. We went for a celebration, it's a little on the pricey side but it was well worth it. The food was delicious and the wine selection very good. Would highly recommend this place for date night to anyone.
P. P.
Very pleasant venue, with attentive but not intrusive staff. Good menu choice without being too expansive. All guests enjoyed their meals, with hot fruit de mers starter getting great revue. Mains very good though turbot described as 'unexciting' especially for price. Sirloin went down well as did other fish dishes of lemon and Dover sole. Deserts enjoyable. Can't comment on wines, though one small glass seemed pricey. Go again? Definitely esp if can sit as we did with view of river beside us.
L. L.
Great local addition to Barnes, right on the river. Only 6 miles from Piccadilly Circus but feels like a trip to the country.
Rick Stein is famous for his seafood, but this restaurant also offers a good selection of meat and vegetarian dishes for non pescatarians.
Whilst it is not cheap, it's also not stupidly expensive with starters ranging from £7-16, and mains from £16-39. You can also get a decent bottle of wine for less than £30.
Service is charming, a beautiful setting and great food. What's not to like?
P. W.
Lovely atmosphere food and staff definitely going back again
S. G.
Nice atmosphere. Very attentive staff.. I had cod fritters which were delicious. The monkfish was beautifully cooked however the sauce lacked flavour.
The waitress and waiters get 5 stars tge food gets 3 stars.
T.
We had an excellent lunch today. I had the Indonesian fish curry myself, which was very good and packed with flavour. Loved the scallops and the crab linguini as well. Wines are not overpriced, which to me is an absolute bonus to a place. In short, very good food for a good price. I would easily return.
S. B.
Great setting, great service and great food
M. H.
We had a delicious 3 course set lunch and carafe of wine in a relaxed atmosphere with excellent service. We felt comfortable with the coronavirus precautions too. All in all to be thoroughly recommended
R. E.
Delicious food at a beautiful table overlooking the Thames. Wonderful experience, will definitely done here again
B.
I love this place, but I don't think the chef likes or wishes to cater for dairy and wheat intolerant people such as i!
It is a wonderful location, great views and loads of people watching. Staff are very cheerful which helps add to the buzz of the place.
The food looks glorious but as I have to tamper with the menu, I don't think I have got the best out of the food!
I will continue to come, but will eat a large breakfast or lunch beforehand!
M. P.
Extremely average given the price point they are pitching at. Service when we went was disorganised and entertaining for all the wrong reasons.
P. F.
Brilliant ! Loved the food (this fish& chips is to die for) and very friendly service.
D. C.
Fantastic food served by friendly and knowledgeable staff in a dining room with a great view of the river. What more could you ask? We visited for lunch and ordered from a set menu which was great value - £32.95 for 3 courses. We'll be going back ASAP for dinner.
A. M.
Excellent fixed menu for lunch, top service too!
C. S.
Lots of superlatives. "The Best" Dover Sole since the one I had at the Seafood Restaurant some years ago. "The most interesting cheese board" for a long time. "The scrummiest" scallops... It goes on.
Quality service, good social distancing.
You pay for what you get, but it's a treat. (And Anthony Worrall-Thompson on the next table being extremely polite...) 😎
H. W.
Went with friends on a Thursday night. Wonderful atmosphere and every table was taken. We sat in the window with stunning view over the Thames as the sun set. Menu was exciting and the food was delicious. One friend ordered off the set menu which was incredibly good value. Service was very personable, unobtrusive and prompt. The wine list had a good variety and perfect choices for a warm evening. Friends both loved it and we will all book to return.
H. Z.
Went here for lunch and the restaurant is great. Really nice location. Try and get a table over looking the river if possible . The food was exceptional. Especially the passion fruit pavlova. Brilliant service by all the staff especially Jean Francois. Really highly recommended.
L. L.
Surprised how delightfully delicious the food was! Even my Italian father-in-law thought the food was better than in Italy!
Waitress was so attentive & warm too.
A lovely time. Will go back again for a nice occasion.
A. F.
Impeccable service, great food and fantastic location.
S. M.
I have been coming here on various occasions to join friends for meals.
Wonderful welcome, great service, staff attentive and friendly. We are so lucky to have a place like this to sit by the river and enjoy the view.
Good menu, nice atmosphere and decor. They are very supportive to local comnunity groups.
D. G.
We held our wedding reception here. The food was lovely and the staff were great. The manager Peter struck up a good rapport with our guests and several commented to me on what a great evening they had. The restaurant was flexible about menu choices and there were no problems with getting flowers and cake delivered. Highly recommended.
L. W.
Wonderful restaurant. Highly recommend it
C. O.
As always Ricks fish doesn’t disappoint. The restaurant itself is right on the tow path to the river Thames. Great views but the outside terrace doesn’t overlook the river just the car park which isn’t unattractive but would probably mark an occasion by sitting inside for a bit more wow factor. Food was good, but not the best lobster I’ve had which was a bit disappointing. Still a valiant effort, would we return? One to tick off the list but probably not as it’s quite expensive.
A. G.
Nice food, disappointing desserts and right pricing, thank you
T. C.
Food and service excellent!! Thoroughly recommended.
N. M.
Lovely setting and atmosphere, and more importantly great food too. Service very friendly. Only one slight critique would be it felt like there was a real rush to get the courses out too quickly. Nevertheless, an enjoyable evening, and a great option for a nice meal out in this area.
S.
Lovely fish restaurant. Te staff had an amazing manners and were very caring.Food was delicious and really well cooked and presented. The wine was lovely together with everything else.Definatelly coming back.
M. P.
Fish good quality, decent portions. Expect £6-19 starters and £18-£40 mains. Desserts also good and lovely expressive wine list. Will come again.
c. s.
Lovely location on the edge of the Thames. Staff very attentive and would assist with all aspects of the menu. The Crab linguine was very fresh and full of flavours, the ravioli which consisted of caramelised onion, sundried tomato, walnut and mushrooms was also very flavour some. We will definitely be returning and I would highly reccomend
R. G.
4th. December. Our first disappointing meal here. The salt cod brandade was sloppy with olive oil, and buried under tapenade to hide it. The mussels had way too much chili, and the crab lasagne showed no hint of crab whatsoever. Not a good lunch.
N. C.
What a fantastic evening at Rick Stein's In Barns. The food was incredible and the service was impeccable. From the moment we were greeted to the moment we left I could not fault the experience. All the staff that came in contact with our table were friendly and engaging, such a rare quality to fine these days.
Thank you to those who made our evening wonderful.
g. W.
First time at a rick stein restaurant outside of Cornwall. Nice restaurant setting and the tables in the conservatory overlooking the Thames are great. Food was good and service was friendly and attentive. Wine list a bit ordinary and tries to steer you towards ricks own... is there anything the man doesn't do! Best fat chips I've ever had and the courgette flowers were also excellent. I was dubious about this place but actually it's great! Recommended
S. R.
Had a very enjoyable evening last night at this wonderful restaurant. It is situated on the banks of the Thames River at Barnes which I can imagine makes it a popular restaurant. The food was exceptional and I can say having eaten in many of Stein's restaurants this was without doubt the best meal I have had. The staff were great very polite and helpful especially Evan how was really helpful and attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
D. P.
Simple, nice quality food. If you can bag a riverside table then your experience will be enhanced!
B. N.
Such a special evening at Rick Stein in Barnes last night. We went there for our one year wedding anniversary and were surprised with a wonderful treat at the end our dinner! The staff were friendly and welcoming. Beautiful location and decor. The food was amazingly delicious and topped off by some scrumptious cocktails. We will most definately be back next year :) thank you Rick Stain in Barnes
J. F. S.
Nice location, great food!
C. B.
Excellent evening at Rick Stein, great service and lovely food 👍
A.
One of my favourite spots! Great location and service blessed with fresh seafood! Ask thw manager Roberto (Top man) for a table overlooking the river if you want to impress your date!
A. B. L. D.
Thank you to Jean Francois, Antonella, chefs and team for a delightful Sunday lunch. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. Thank you very much for a warm welcome, we felt like we were at home. The Indonesian curry was out of this world. We are coming back very soon. Thank you. #Gratitude
G. E.
My first time to a Rick Stein restaurant. My seafood soup was delicious but I had Singapore crab for main course. Very messy( I was warned) and really felt it was hard to eat in a dimly lit restaurant. Quite expensive meal as you would expect but was hungry after. Ambience nice
J. D.
One of thee most lovely settings I've seen in London. The staff is very patient with high maintenance customers like myself. The food and service is fantastic!
N. Y.
One of the most enjoyable evenings have had in a while, the setting is fantastic, food was great and the service even better. I didn't quite like what I had ordered for my main and before I could even say anything the waiter noticed gave me a menu and changed it in the space of about 4 minutes - some of the best customer service I have ever had! Thank you Gennaro
Couldn't recommend this place highly enough.
s. a.
Lovely place with fantastic service. Beautiful unrushed lunch and great value for money.
J. S.
Had a really lovely meal here. Food was great, wine very nice, and service polite & attentive. From reading a few negative reviews was a little apprehensive, but needn't have worried. Recommended.
b. g.
Excellent food. We had a table in the window with great view of the Thames. The staff were excellent and made a birthday treat all the better
J. C.
Went for the first time on an unplanned Saturday afternoon. Food and service both excellent. The chocolate dessert was fabulous. Got a lovely Riverside seat. A bit more expensive than average restaurant but very much worth the price
L. T.
I have to say that I think I preferred the previous incarnation of this restaurant. I was excited to return to the wonderful location, and have thoroughly enjoyed watching Mr Stein on the box. I suggest that he takes more interest in his place, as my mother and I endured an extremely salty, and dry crab linguine this afternoon. My seared tuna and avocado starter was, however, delicious. Perhaps I should have stopped there.
NB. Rick.
B. H.
Its always a treat to go to Rick Steins. The food is never ostentatious but everything is cooked simply and perfectly. Not cheap but it's worth it. And if you're lucky you might get a Thames-side seat.
N. D.
Delicious food, great wine list which is very well priced and a personable service. A lovely atmosphere suggesting this will certainly become a place we come to regularly.
Cocktails are pretty good too.
K. W.
Really nice to see this restaurant open again post lockdown.
Food was great and staff coped really well with new circumstances. A real pleasure to have a relaxing meal out with good friends in a nice, light and airy restaurant
Well done.
s. m.
We had the most amazing time at Barnes for our 2nd wedding anniversary. Jean-Francois, the maître d' is absolutely brilliant (the best I've met in London) and all the staff are extremely kind and efficient which is definitely contributing to the great pleasure of dining there. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Food was delicious and the wine list delightful. We had the squid, the hot shellfish platter, a lemon sole and a dover sole. The wine list is excellent. We had the Spanish Rick's favourite, a real golden beauty. I really recommend Rick's champagne too. This is officially my favourite restaurant of all!
T. T.
Lovely atmosphere, excellent and very attentive service, delicious options on the menu and very filling and well thought out dishes. The chef's appetizer of tuna with avocado was delish. Bonus points for not playing Christmas music!
A. W.
Fantastic meal and fab service especially Shannon she was brilliant, not in your face but just really pleasant and helpful .I had the crab followed by the dover sole and my husband had the squid followed by the curry and we both really enjoyed all dishes. We never had a dessert but that was because there was nothing lemony to eat it was all salted something or other and i wanted lemon after all the fish which is why i've dropped a star but that's just a personal thing and maybe a bit nasty so use your own discretion here.
M. S.
We had high hopes but were a little disappointed. The menu is straightforward and the Dover Sole ordered was decent, but we felt there was room for more creativity in the menu as oppose to the more traditionally basic fish dishes. Overall, not close to Chez Bruce standards (preferred local choice) but the same money.
A. R.
Delicious end to the long weekend and potential last eat out to help out offer. Had the set menu lunch which worked out great value compared to going a la carte.
C. R.
Fabulous meal in a great setting by the river. The staff were great with us and tbe newvorn baby we had in tow. There is a good menu (mainly fish obviously). It was delicious and a very pleasant afternoon.
R. W.
Fantastic evening at Rick Stein, Barnes. It was a special occasion - my birthday - and everything was wonderful from start to finish. The tuna amuse-bouche was incredible, the salt cod croquettes delicious. Mussels and scallops entrees were both fantastic and the curry main was a highlight. Plus, don't miss the desserts (if you have room)! Ask for a window seat so that you get to truly absorb the wonderful view and ambience. The only minor complaint was that the window behind our booth needed a clean (from the outside), but it didn't affect our experience of course!
D. G.
We had the most wonderful meal here. The staff were so accommodating and friendly as well as speedy! We had starters, mains, desserts and wine and everything was perfect. Would highly reccomend visiting here! We will be back soon
m. w.
Excellent, varied menu to suit all needs, but make sure you get a few bits of fish / seafood to share or why else would you come here? Dover sole and lobster the 2 standouts recently.
M. C.
Superb location and friendly attentive staff but for a restaurant of this calibre I don't expect to be served a cold plate. Consequently the sauce with my sole veronique was also cold. Overall the experience did not measure up to my expectation.
J. S.
Some fine food spoiled by lack lustre service.
Waiters behind the bar on their mobiles was only one indicator. Having to ask for table service was another. A reminder that a restaurant is only as good as it's front of house staff is timely.
A. B.
Had lunch there yesterday. Food good. Disappointing service, apart from one member of staff who was friendly
S. S.
Great food and very friendly service I turned up midweek and got a table by the window overlooking the river, heaven. Returned with my family for a birthday meal just as good if not better!
E. S.
I was a little anxious that this restaurant wouldn’t live up to expectations, but was very pleasantly surprised. The service was beyond reproach. The food was simple, but excellent, with a good range of choices and prices. Great location and some of the best seafood I’ve eaten.
I. M.
Staff were incredible nice particularly the manager, a marvelous host. Food was very good except the Singapore crab I received had plenty of pieces but no claws, after mentioning it was quickly resolved. I will return
w. s.
Great venue, food was amazing but tasted a little salty. Was good value for money not overly priced and extremely welcoming and friendly staff, would highly recommend.
H. W.
Every restaurant needs a manager like Jean Francois - simply the best at making you feel valued, special and remembered. He delivers the ultimate in sublime customer service. At the top of his game as ever. The food being great goes without saying but it's JF that makes this restaurant memorable. Thank you! Xx
R. Y.
I’m giving it 5 stars but it really deserves 4.x or something in between. The food was good, but not sublime. The Cornish crab appetiser was predictably great, and the Indonesian curry was a surprise to find on the menu and surprisingly good (albeit salty). But my wife’s fried calamari was “Asian” style and bathed in soy sauce, which was a real shame. The petit fours had some brownies that were worth the trip...
J. J.
Excellent food
Great location by the river
Good atmosphere
C.
Absolutely fantastic . The very finest of England's sea produce so beautifully cooked. No faults, and the best Oysters I've ever eaten. The best Oysters ever. I eat a lot of Oysters, and still the best. Did I mention the Oysters...
P. E.
Amazing food. Will go again...
J. W.
I love this location and used to go to it every week when it was the depot! Great food and ambience. But just very pricey for what it is, that’s why 4 star
A. P.
We've been there many times. Nice location with a great view of the Thames. The staff is very professional and attentive. The good is just perfect in term of quality and quantity.
K. K.
What a flavoursome meal, very attentive staff,
Wine was pleasantly balanced.
Overall, a marvellous evening. Big thanks to everyone at Rick Steins.
R. J.
Came here today with my wife to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, and have enjoyed possibly the finest food and service we have ever experienced.
Exactly what we hoped it would be and thank you .
J. Y.
Delicious food, attentive and friendly staff, scenic river view.. all for £20 set menu. Definitely coming here again!
C. S.
A very smooth transition from the much respected Depot to this incarnation has been achieved, retaining some of the Depot staff, which made us feel at home. Food is good value, given the importance of a name such as Rick Stein. Service levels now higher because there are more staff. Booking activity a bit hit and miss.
D. G.
Food was great! Service was even better! Would recommend the scallops for starters and the cheese board for dessert! We watched the neighbouring table order then both and were not disappointed
h. w.
An excellent venue, right on the river. Tables overlooking the Thames can be hard to come by, but are worth the wait. Pricey, but what do you expect in Barnes?
Probably best for a special occasion, but also good for a light lunch if you are passing.
C. G.
Delicious meal. I chose from the short lunch menu and loved my food. Fantastic setting overlooking the river. I deducted a star only because it was very hot and blinds on the top windows would have been sensible we thought. …
R. B.
Food excellent as always. Good to be welcomed back by familiar staff after an enforced absence.
K. L.
Smashing lunch today with my parents at Rick Stein's Barnes. We were lucky enough to be given a river view table as requested (but not promised) several weeks ago. The service was 5 star - friendly, professional and welcoming and the food... delicious!! Thank you :)
k. k.
Fabulous
J. Y.
Delicious food, attentive and friendly staff, scenic river view.. all for £20 set menu. Definitely coming here again!
C. H.
Came in yesterday for dinner and the food was amazing and so was the service. Definitely recommend and will return soon
G. E.
My first time to a Rick Stein restaurant. My seafood soup was delicious but I had Singapore crab for main course. Very messy( I was warned) and really felt it was hard to eat in a dimly lit restaurant. Quite expensive meal as you would expect but was hungry after. Ambience nice

Absolutely amazing. Beautiful location, friendly staff, delicious food and for what you are getting I'd say good value for money. Will definitely be back again.
R. L.
Great food, great staff and great views of the Thames. They have an optional set menu for lunch which is good value. Well worth the trip to Mortlake. Take in a walk by the river afterwards!!
G. H.
Fabulous food, fabulous service. Couldn't have been better. Wonderful restaurant with an incredible view of the river, making it a perfect evening.
s. a.
First time here .got lucky with a wonderful table seat by the river
.food amazing staff so helpful and knowledgeable. Nothing to much trouble .highly recommend. Fantastic atmosphere.
M. F.
Excellent quality English Breakfast although the portions are small (just 1 lonely mushroom?) and at £8.50 its too expensive. The poached eggs are perfect and with one of the best breakfast views on the Thames its wonderfully relaxing if a little expensive.

Very nice feel, lovely coblestone courtyard to enter and river views. Modern semi-industrial decoration internally. Enthusiastic young european staff who were happy to chat when we went midweek. For the price it's 3.5 star. But we wanted smack-in-the-face fresh, tasty fish/seafood. Almost but not quite there. Stil fine for an occasion.

We visited at lunch time when they serve lunch set menu. The side Vege needs to be better but ffood was very nice (slightly salty but it is British thing I think) the view from the restaurant is wonderful and service is good. You can walk from Barnes Station or take a bus from Hammersmith etc. It is in a lovely area.
K. K.
Absolutely amazing. Beautiful location, friendly staff, delicious food and for what you are getting I'd say good value for money. Will definitely be back again.

Was disappointed. Went for a family celebration .menu wasn't as good or varied as expected. Service slow and in some cases quite surly. We had to ask for water, extra drinks rather than it being offered.can't help but feel they think they don't have to try hard because of the name
M. B.
Super location on the river at Barnes - good bistro style food, freshly cooked.Nice service, if you are in a hurry just have a bar snack. Gets very busy so reserve at the weekends, often full of families so can get a bit noisy. But the views make it worth suffering that & the food changes seasonally
S. V.
Greet food staff very attentive lovely restaurant. Would definitely go again. Only problem my husband was given the wrong main but as it was my birthday he didnt complain.but the main he received was very nice.
I. W.
Food delicious, staff very attentive

A little late in writing a review, as we are now into January, but I felt that it shouldn't go un-noted how delightful our Christmas Day lunch was at The Depot, and what that meant to us in making our day so special. As we were a tad early for our booking we were instantly offered Champagne at the bar whilst they prepared our table. Just after our first course, we were then approached and given the option to move tables as one had become available with a river view. For me this kind of approach meant that although the staff were so obviously rushed off their feet and incredibly busy, on such an important day of the year they still took time to note what is important for their customers, and how to make them feel relaxed and at home. Apart from which the food was delicious........and we were also offered after dinner drinks on the house. A memorable day for all of us. Thankyou.

A little disappointed, enjoyed the experience but felt something lacking. We had to ask for the Dover Sole to be taken off the bone and was then put on a cold plate. We like the Seafood but this one has someway to go.
C. P.
Ok fish and chips. Had higher expectations for it. Nice river views!
L. M.
Absolutely fabulous lunch today; the best piece of hake I've ever eaten in a restaurant. Will return at the earliest possible opportunity.
D. M.
Memorable experience: settings, food and service were impeccable. I will definitely go back again
A. M.
Excellent seafood in a nice atmosphere by the river. I happen to have recently eaten at Rick Stein's original seafood restaurant in Padstow. The food at this Barnes restaurant was if anything, better than Padstow and the atmosphere and style of the restaurant were considerably better (despite excellent service at Padstow, it's decor is rather out of date). Recommended and will return.
C. P.
Excellent food and lovely staff - we had a great night!
J. M.
Super meal and warm friendly service
S. M.
Lovely meal and lunch is good value. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that the fish was a little over cooked and the plums could have been less sweet to compliment the pannacotta
s. c.
Great location, excellent food and lovely staff. All very friendly and helpful. Varied menu, something for everyone. Lunchtime deals really good to.
P. M.
Had a great meal today. Really good food and service, could not fault it!!
S. R.
Absolutely amazing. Beautiful location, friendly staff, delicious food and for what you are getting I'd say good value for money. Will definitely be back again.
T. H.
Lovely lunch, a little overpriced. Staff were lovely and welcoming. Best sticky toffee pudding 😋
T. c.
Great fish dishes and variety..full of flavour and brilliantly presented! Will come back again to try the rest of the menu.
B. M.
Slow service. Waited 45 mins for main course. Dishes not removed after service. Had to ask for drinks, water and more butter three times and got the special anniversary all wrong!!
S. P.
Fabulous quality seafood with a vegetarian menu if required. They cater equally well for couples as for medium sized groups (8-10).
L. W.
Excellent service, fab location and great food. Bit pricey but definitely good for a date or special occasion.
J. P.
Great location on the Thames, with half of the restaurant tables looking directly out to the river. Friendly, attentive service and good food. Will be shutting soon as it is about to be taken over by Rick Stein. Will be Stein's at the Depot in future I believe.
R. J.
Was there for my wifes birthday dinner. Food was amazing. Really can't wait to come back. Great to find restaurants away from the hussle and bustle of Central London
I. C.
Best Sunday Roast in London, but we love it any day or any night of the week here. The staff are always lovely and the food is consistently excellent. Our absolute FAVE.
P. E.
Great service. Fish cakes were lovely and fish & chips just perfect. Try to get a table by the window
A. C.
I had deliciously fresh plaice cooked to perfection. Charming, efficient service, comfortable seating and stunning river view. Great place to celebrate a special occasion as it is a little pricey.
D. H.
I'm a bit bias as it's right outside my house :) I've been going there for over 10 years now, descent views of the river if you ask for it and very friendly staff. The Bavette steak comes with my highest recommendation.
D. O.
Went with my fiance and two friends on Sunday afternoon. Booked ahead and was reserved a window seat with views of the Thames.
The food was delicious - we had the Chump of lamb x2 and The pork x2
The only negative points was that we ordered the beef, only to be told it had sold out 5 minutes later and then at desert the same issue happened when ordering the crumble.
Apart from that I would go again
U. R.
beautiful restaurant in Mortlake overlooking the Thames btw Barnes Bridge and Chiswick Bridge. The food was good each time and visited but I expected I bit more considering the prices. Still great place and worth visiting

I am very wary of celebrity chefs. Although they get the publicity on TV and books, can they cook good food? Previously, I tried the food of 2 TV celebrity chefs. I did not rate them at all. Their restaurants closed soon after. The other thing is celebrity chefs have TV programmes visiting foreign countries where they see and learn how to prepare the local food. Then, they show their interpretation of the country’s specialities on the programme. In my opinion, in many times, their interpretation of the food bears no resemblance to the original.
I have eaten at a Rick Stein restaurant before, I know his standard for western food. But for me, being brought up in Singapore, the national dish is “Singapore Chili Crab”. I wanted to taste his interpretation of that Singapore favourite. That evening, it was the Cornish Chili Crab, the equivalent to the Singapore dish.
It was another superb meal at Rick Stein’s. The Fruits de Mer and the dover sole were also enjoyable. The Chili Crab can be labelled as authentic from Singapore. A really enjoyable meal.
Well done Rick.
Highly recommended. Of course, we will be going back.
S. l.
Excellent food, lovely ambience. Service OK but could have been better. Would recommend.
C. D.
Fantastic fish and chips. Although not all senior staff were wearing masks all the time.
S. H.
Lovely setting right by the river - were there as guests for a wedding lunch (restricted menu which was ok) - food and wine good but will have to come again and eat from the main menu to see what it really is all a out!!
K. M.
All round a lovely restaurant, the food was nicely presented..staff were pleasant...but menu very expensive for what it is, though to be expected if you chose a Rick Stiens venue.
K. E.
Absolutely amazing, we couldn't fault a single dish. So happy to have tried one of my favourite chefs restaurants. A must try for anyone!
L. H.
Lovely staff. Lovely food. Great view of the river. Covid precautions very good
S. Y.
My friends and I had the most wonderful lunch the food it was superb great service can't wait to go back thank you
L. S.
We were v disappointed with the outdoor seating Our table was totally unsatisfactory and there was definite lack of outdoor heaters which should have been provided The food and service however were very good
s. t.
The rice and the vegs served with my Indonesian seafood curry were cold.. So was the white noodles served with chilli crab ...
Could be better..
Otherwise all was good.
I. S.
great location away from the hubbub, amazing views, high quality food and attentive staff.
G. P.

R. B.
Food excellent as always. Good to be welcomed back by familiar staff after an enforced absence.
K. P.
Tasty seafood. Love this place!
G. R.
A good restaurant serving good food by a willing if slightly amateur staff. It's a pity that two of our group got food poisoning from the seafood dish.
G. Y.
Service impeccable, food delicious, view stunning, price eye watering.
K. B.
We just went for a family mean with my 16 month old. The staff were wonderful and attentive, and looked after us really well. The good was excellent.

i. p.
Very nice fish and chips...
A. P.
Excellent service, excellent food and a very cosy bistro-like atmosphere. Lovely Thames bankside location. Can't go wrong.
J. C.
Excellent food served in a comfortable setting on the banks of the Thames. It's one of my favorite spots!
N.
The Indonesian fish curry is fab
C. E.
Excellent fish, as you would expect. Puddings rather pedestrian. Service friendly but a bit slow. Bill pretty high.
H. G.
Had a lovely meal for my Mums 60th, great menu! It was quite difficult deciding what I wanted to have!
P. M.
Food good but you’d expect it to be given the price however service was really poor. Very impersonal, very rushed and not focused on making you feel comfortable. Shame as it’s a great location and should be one to go back to for a special occasion
D. E.
Great food and excellent service. The view over the Thames was also very special. A lovely evening.
L. B.
Fantastic seafood restaurant.i had oyster, mussels starter, Singapore crab and passion fruit. All very tasty fresh and highly recommend
D. W.
Informal yet attentive, precise service. Accomplished food alongside charming riverside location. All that you might wish for and certainly worth a visit.
W. W.
The food was nice, the staff there were so friendly and helpful. Would recommend everyone to go if you love seafood.
S. M.
Lovely spot and excellent fresh food cooked well. The cod and chips were utterly awesome and worth the very reasonable £16 for excellence.
N. N.
Lovely food and lovely people. We had a fantastic time. Thank you
I. C.
Brilliant food, the best fish dishes ever and a wonderful waiting person. LOVED IT!!!
I. F.

Not cheap by any means if you want seafood but the quality and flavour was great! Staff were also attentive and professional.
M. S.
Food and service were OK, not great, and certainly not at the level the pricing should demand.

Everything is perfect about this place, the service, the food, the ambience and the table if you are lucky to be at the conservatory extension watching the river.
M. C.
Very relaxed staff brilliant good food, the dessert spoons are a bit cumbersome.
M. B.
You can't go wrong with any dish you pick. Outstanding and extraordinary! Of course service if top class!
M. F.
Always great food and service, with very reasonable prices. Also lots of space and precautions for Covid-19.

B. M.
Had a great time. Food was delicious and definitely a great spot!

Too expensive for what is. You find smaller / better / cheaper places in Central London. Paying for the name. Good service though and accommodating.
