Reviews of Royal Forest Brewers Fayre
L. k.
Visited this restaurant on my own today, and had to be there for more than a couple of hours. I was served by 4 different members of staff, and every one of them was excellent. The service was so good, caring and patient. Highly recommend for a warm welcome and good service. The food I had was basic "pub grub", but the price was reasonable for London area. No complaints from me at all.
J. G.
Nice lunch before walk in Epping Forest. Friendly service and fair value. The carvery looked good
W. K.
Nice roast dinner… friendly staff and lovely views of the surrounding area
S. P.
Disappointed. Vegan burger was just burger and bread with a teaspoon of melted "cheese". Very dry. Condiments had to be asked for, not offered. Vegan dessert was served with whipped real cream on top! Waiter wax excellent and very helpful though.
S. E.
Good size pub / restaurant with parking.
Nice place to come to after a walk around in Epping forest.
At the moment does look like they are short of staff, but hospitality staff shortage has been noticed in other places too.
Y. U.
Good place for a meal after a walk in Epping Forest. Conveniently located 5 minutes from Chingford station. Went here for a Sunday roast buffet. Good price and decent food. Spacious interior and friendly staff.
s.
Food was nice and plentiful. Staff came to our table a couple of times asking if we needed anything else so all in all we had a good time here.
D. C.
The service was amazing, the staff are really attentive and quick. One of the best restaurants I've ever been to for service. But the food wasn't that great, to be fair no Brewers fayre pub is going to be extravagant or even delicious. The food was OK but nothing more.
M. P.
We had breakfast there and it is amazing. All you can eat, English and continental. And the staff very friendly and welcoming. Excellent location un Epping Forest.
P. P.
Superb breakfast with unlimited juices, tea coffee and soft drinks. First a large selection of cereals, different breads, pancakes and jams. Then you order as much cooked breakfast as you want, followed by toast and fresh fruit.
Superb start to the day.
T. S.
Visited here for the first time in 3 years today, after moving out of the area. Shocked to see how much it hasn't changed. Friendly service but food very much your standard chain pub fare. The biggest plus for this pub is the beautiful grounds it backs onto. Dog friendly outside but not inside
S. B.
The meal was lovely my only criticism from my friends also the food could be a little hotter. The staff were lovely friendly and polite..Mark you was missed today..
Carvery was lovely though in all a great experience will be back again to visit...
D. H.
Staff friendly and polite. Food was hot when arrived at the table and reasonably priced with a good choice for everyone
C. J.
A very nice pub/restaurant. Absolutely everything is good about this place. The beer garden exceptional, overlooking Epping Forest.
Plenty of disabled access.
M. I.
I hired the function room and it was amazing. The staff were friendly and welcoming and would definitely use it again
B. S.
A large and pleasant pub with a relaxed atmosphere - we went there on a Sunday and sat in the beer garden. Large outside space, with good sunshades (we were 3 adults and a baby) - and surrounded by greenery and nature. Would describe as family friendly pub chain, chilled with reasonable prices :)
E.
All good, I think the pandemic has done them good, it has made them 'pull their socks up' all clean inside, table service which is an improvement, the menu may, but not sure, have a slightly smaller choice of food, but cannot be certain , but the range is good and varied
J. B.
Excellent food, friendly polite staff. Great atmosphere. Very good parking
S. M.
Great food at a good price , excellent service, with plenty of room for social distancing. We are regular visitors and always have a good meal.
E. R.
The pub though a good size felt homely and it's a lovely building. Staff were friendly and obliging.
J. D.
Nice pub to go sit down drink and enjoy the sunset 🌇 the staff and managers are super nice 💯!!!
a. L.
We had breakfast. The meal was warm, not hot Also the scrambled eggs were watery, and the baked beans were not the best quality.
R. L.
Good friendly service and good burgers is what we need after a long walk in Epping forest. Car park is free and plenty of spaces.
A. C.
Our group of 30 were looked after very well! All staff were helpful and the food was lovely. They even cordoned off the front of the car park so we could park our London Bus outside!
B. L.
The food was very good and all of us were very happy. The staff were very good too. Thank you.
S. C.
Service was slow, a few things we ordered they came back a few minutes later to tell us they had run out.
The staff was nice and friendly
A. S.
I've been going to the Royal Forest at intervals for nearly 20 years, at different times of year and on a random assortment of 'occasions'. It hasn't improved under the 'Brewers Fayre' umbrella, sadly, and Covid19 hasn't helped either. On the most recent early evening visit, our food arrived at less than perfectly clean table (after a long wait) looking 'tired', as though it had sat on its plate under a heat lamp for hours already. It certainly wasn't all freshly plated straight from the pan. The floors were very sticky, and the ladies loo was missing all its paper, and the decor and fittings were pretty beaten up - it felt like we'd just missed the real party, and the whole place had a bad hangover.
A. Y.
Breakfast was ok, can't argue with the price especially as 2 kids eat free with 1 paying adult and it being unlimited
Although having said that, how much can one eat. Would have liked slightly more variety in the continental section was lacking in bread toppings such as ham.
E. L.
Easy booking online, not busy on arrival. Good range of choices on menu, table service great and not long waits between sitting, ordering and delivery. Lovely food it all looked great and tasted delicious. Would go back.
T. M.
Service was abit slow four of our party got their starts as everyone was finishing there's and 5 minutes after they got there starters there dinner came out as they where still eating
S. S.
Staff are always friendly and efficient. Excellent breakfast that offers fantastic value especially when the kids come along and eat for free as well. Then, spend the morning walking off breakfast by walking through the nearby open areas of Chingford Plain and Epping Forest. The QE Hunting Lodge The View Museum are very close and well worth a visit. Highly recommended as a family day out
K. S.
Service was great and drinks were good. Food tasted good but just not enough of it. I had vegan chilli and must have had 2 spoonfuls of rice and the same of the chilli with 5 small bits of tortilla designed round the bowl.. was starving afterwards and the rest of my group also said the portions were really mean. In future I would stick to the Sunday carvery always good value. Tasted great but for the money it was really mean.
J. M.
Been there a couple of times during the pandemic always welcoming. And pleased to serve you . Outside only. Best chips I've had in years and the views are beautiful. .
B. (.
The lunch meal deals are a good price. Can be a little hit and miss with the quality though.
M. C.
Went to Royal Forest recently after 2yrs. The staff were friendly and the food was good and reasonable
G. O.
We usually do breakfast here. We like this place. The food is good and not expensive but it urgently need a deep cleaning. I don’t want to know how the kitchen looks like. I just hope it’s much cleaner.
t. b.
Presentation of food is incredible
The taste of the food is very yummy
Covid procedures are being followed
My family and I felt safe
C. M.
It's OK. Food is good value at lunchtime but expensive at weekends for quality. Can be a little unclean at times, sticky tables which attract little flies.
E. W.
Lovely garden ....great service....just a shame the "owners" seem to be letting the place die....this could easily be a go to destination but there doesn't seem to be the will to make it a success .. unfortunately I presume it's site value is dominating the powers a be's thinking ..
C. S.
The building itself is incredible, historical and nicely layed out. The food was nice, not badly priced (rather like a Harvester if you like their food). Staff was friendly and food was served quickly.
E. P.
Beautiful pub in the hill of Chingford. The place is big and clean and the service was great. Only issues are the quality of the beer and the food. This is definitely something that need Improvements.
C. H.
Good place for traditional English food, carvery buffet and excellent value for money. The location is superb of course. The restaurant is very busy at weekends, and it's not necessarily super clean. Nevertheless, the staff are helpful and friendly and we had a great time with the kids. The pool table is a nice extra.
P. H.
Nice place to enjoy a summers drink in the garden. If you take a short walk to the end of the garden there's a forest with some nice walks and amazing sunsets!
S. H.
Decent spot for a beer when the sun's shining. Nice space out back with views of the forest. Service at the bar can be good but gets busy at times. Food is pretty good - standard fayre for a Brewer's Fayre. Good base to start or finish a walk in Epping Forest. About two miles south through forest to Highams Park, or probably five miles north to Epping
L. T.
Nice as a family pub the foods not great
P. K.
Second time we've been there this week... great service and nice food well presented..
J. T.
I've been here a few times over the years and would say 3*s but the staff are great and pushed it to 4 for me as I know they're understaffed. The bar can be a bit of a nightmare when it comes to the que as when busy it can become confusing as to who's being served unlike what you'd find in most other pubs or bars. The food has been good and the location is atop a hill with great walks all around. Worth a visit.
T.
Good food although the interior needs to be updated as looking worn. Staff friendly and welcoming.
t. n.
Beautiful nanny's wake was in Beautiful settings, lovely staff, food was lovely
V. W.
Have to admit the food and drinks was lovely, couldn't find a single thing wrong.
But I also have to say the lack of attentive staff was abit worrying. But that's definitely something they can work on as the easing of lockdown is upon us.
M. N.
The service was excellent. The food is always so nice. I always have such a nice time there. Definitely will go again.
A. R.
Lovely, friendly staff. You really helped to make my cousin's birthday a lovely day. Thank you
N. F.
The food is what you would expect from a chain restaurant, but what was a firm favourite with our family was their breakfast at the weekend.
The buffet breakfast is brilliant when you have small kids as they can get something immediately and can sample a wide variety of foods.
The self service coffee was also great when said little one kept you up most of the night ;)
S. M.
Good value Sunday carvery in a gorgeous old English building right near Epping Forest.
E. B.
Beautiful location but no staff to serve, waited for a while on the bar. The waiter was nice though. Shame the place is not exactly clean. Mucky tables, sticky menus are not my ideal welcome to a restaurant. Chips were OK though and fast table service. The place has enormous potential if we'll managed.
M. R.
Visited for lunch. Good meal, I had fish and chips and friend had a curry. Nice helpful service, good value and Covid compliant.
D. F.
Had the root roast it was absolutely beautiful. Full of flavor. Prawn cocktail was tasteless though but staff were helpful and jolly. Would of liked crayons for my granddaughter but they had run out so bring your own.
p. p.
Came here a couple of months ago for my daughter's Confirmation.
We had 20 people here and the food and service was excellent.
Today however the food was decidedly under par. My wife had to wait an hour for her chicken caesar salad. Roast potatoes were either burnt or soggy. Turkey was very dry.
Poor show today!
D. O.
We had a lovely lunch in the garden. Nice view, great food and friendly staff. I recommend this place to everyone
S. P.
There was 8 of us and 7 out of 8 meals were ok mine was awful but because it was a family meal I didn't complain .the quiche filling was lovely but the outside and topping was awful. The potatoes were hard and every one had eyes in them and I didn't imagine buttery potatoes to be like that with 3 pats of butter on the side of the plate . Probably will give this place a miss for a while. Service was ok though.
R. R.
Very slow to get our food, over an hour. Bar staff taking orders were quick and friendly but there just weren't enough of them (2, for approx 200 covers?). Not to mention queuing for an age to order. Food was decent enough pub grub. Greedy owners, sort the staffing levels out! It was packed out on a Tuesday lunchtime.
d. p.
Nice quiet location still close to chingford.good food, very child friendly, staff very helpful.
S. G.
Nice staff, friendly and polite.
Good buffet choices for breakfast, but quite dirty on this sunday morning. Coffee machine filthy, our table was so sticky the napkin was stuck to it. Food counters had stains, hard residue on them from previous days.
I wonder what the kitchen looks.like
A. B. (.
Good Sunday pub with a gr8 outback for a digestive walk...
D. C.
Great outdoor space. Plenty of room inside for Covid regulations. Burger was OK, bit more mac and cheese in the burger would have been nice and maybe a better quality bun but otherwise all good
L. B.
Lovely meal. Nice helpful staff member Zoe. We are having our wedding meal here in December. She was kind and very helpful. Showed us where we could seat 32 guests.
Will be back before our wedding for sure.
Thanks xx
A. Z.
Nice laid back atmosphere and liked the fact you ordered at the bar so could decide in your own time, and wouldn't be moved on once you were done. The food was quite nice too - would've liked more mushrooms in my burger considering it was called a mushroom beef burger. The meat was very tasty and soft though. The mud pie I had for desert was very nice too, although if it were half the size it would've been more manageable!
Overall, eat here if you want a fun, relaxed night with alcohol and average-to-good food.
H. Z.
This place is very big, so gets busy! The waiters are all nice, and there's a good variety of pub food here. You have to order at the bar which can be a bit inconvenient, but nothing to complain about. I had a New Yorker burger which tasted average (no gristle or anything like that, which was good). The chips could do with a little more flavour, and their texture tasted a bit cheap.
I had a mud pie for dessert which was lovely, but boy was it rich! I definitely recommend sharing.
Overall, nice atmosphere and average pub food of much variety.
A. W.
Brilliant staff to me, as I eat a low cholesterol diet, they were so kind to me, I definitely come again
Took my son here 28 years ago...
A. J. F.
Although the menu was limited the the food was good, the restaurant is in need of updating
P. A.
Took advantage of the two meals for £8.99. Perfectly serviceable food, served quickly. Decor is very poor, air con unit dripping no safety signage or buckets.
P. G.
Atmosphere was good, nice location. The food was very average only to be expected no complaints you get what you pay for. Nice friendly staff, the down side is could do with a decent clean check under the tables.
M. B.
Good food and fast friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience here.
M. E.
Recommend for breakfasts. Good choice of both hot and cold food. Fixed price for continental or inc hot food, usually buffet style where you serve yourself (although have known it to be an "order what you want" on occasion for the hot food) price includes fruit juices, teas and coffees unlike some other brands. Up to 2 children up to 16 years old eat free with each adult which makes it great value for families.
R. R.
Absolutely brilliant lovely loved the food Sunday roast the people's service is brilliant the place is amazing to see with it's history
D. M.
Lovely venue, East Coast IPA and a decent selection of food. However it takes far too long to get served, especially when busy and tables are often left with dirty plates and used glasses for long periods.
It wouldn't take much to sort out the issues and it's in a great location which deserves a better run pub.
S. A.
Service by Alice was excellent. Friendly place food is nice.
S. C.
Just WOW, everything a family could ask for. Fantastic food, great staff and a very relaxing atmosphere and to top it off you have an enjoyable walk through the forest. Definitely worth a visit, know I will be going again
A. S.
Relaxed atmosphere, and no problems finding a table. Service at the bar was quite slow, but food came out quickly, with fairly generous portions. Plenty of choice on the menu!
L. j.
Just taken my dad here for a birthday treat, food was really lovely. Staff on the bar were helpful and friendly. Well done we will definitely be back
A. K.
Hired a room for an event here. Food was not bad. Room was in need of a good clean. Service in bar was really slow. Server checked my order of 3 drinks 3 times. Bar area was tired in need of a deep clean
L. H.
Good prices food was decent. free parking and great service in a nice area.
S.
The food is great the servixe is quick and the meals come out very quickly. The buffet that changes evry day is very diverse and lovely. The meat on the roast is soft and succulent and all of the food is great. The free refil drink station is great for kids because you dont have to keep ordering drinks for them. Overall i loved my experience at the royal forest
S. B.
Delicious New York Burger & Chips. Delivered to our table with a smile, helpful as to where Cutlery etc & Drinks were placed. Top it of we had a BOGOF deal.. Yes i recommend meals here.. Have a good one, choosing from the menu guarantees enjoyment every time i've eaten here.
K. H.
Good food. Good service. Comfortable. Accommodating when we asked to switch tables unfortunately, this was due to people who came in from outside with their drinks and stood right next to our table. I think the bar and restaurant should be more segregated.
A. H.
The chips have improved. They are now edible when just warm, which is the usual way all BFs tend to serve them (in our experience). Have they changed supplier or just potato variety?
M. G.
A lovely building in a good location, except for the fact that generally speaking- you need a car to get there, but if course if you have a car then you need to be on the soft drinks! So wont please the entire family but pretty sure the kids will love it!
D. A. R.
A private room for a celebration of a life cut short.
K. B.
Nice pub, take my nan here for lunch! Cheap food especially if you get a weekday deal but also tastes nice! Plenty of parking out the front and back and staff friendly!
J. P.
The food hehe is absolutely delicious 5-stars thank you for an amazing breakfast
K. R.
Had the wake after my father's funeral here today, cant fault the service or the food. Large family gathering well looked after. Huge thank you to the management and staff.
S. P.
The Sunday carvery was really nice. And a very nice relaxed atmosphere. Can't really comment on normal menu food as haven't tried but others who had it were enjoying. Will definitely go again.
J. B.
Tired, dirty, could smell the toilets in the bar and uncleared tables. There for a relatives wake, once the few staff that were there chivvied up they were friendly and if you ignored the above, the food was very good.
J. S.
Had lunch here today with a walking group. approx. 18 of us. tables set out and reserved as requested. very good food , and service.
Excellent value for money. Will plan a walk from here again.
J. J.
The offer for 1 main meal then 1 free was the reason I went. I would not have liked to have paid full price. Chicken bit tasteless. Was hot. Young waiting staff pleasant. An ok experience.
H. M.
This place is major need of refurbishment, you'd think with the place being closed for so long it would have been the perfect opportunity to give it a coat of paint at the very least.
A. M.
Good place for family food.
Bar service terrible, always massive queues to buy a drink because they stupidly do food orders using same positions and staff.
10 of us ate on Saturday 29th July, they couldn't manage to take our order at a pre-booked table, neither could the staff take a single order, we all had to troop up and queue in pairs. Then of curse the meal was brought to table in dis-jointed bits, so I'd finished, and 2 people hadn't even received their food.
Why do us British put up with this shhhhhhiiiiittteee??????
M. S.
Decent carvery with plenty of seating. Typical brewers fayre selections and a small range of beers on tap. Staff are friendly. Decked out in typical dark wood and a fire to boot.
L. L.
This is just an average pub resturant that probably could do with a bit of tender loving care in the DIY department. But the staff are very nice the food is fine the price is great and theres lots of choice and plenty of choice for childten at very, very amazing prices. So if you going casual and u want to keep the price in check then this is the place .
L. R.
A lovely place to eat good food
m. d.
Service was quick. But found it a bit pricey for what I had but overall a good experience.
M. E.
It was delicious thank you.
S. C.
Beautiful views.lovely place for a coffee after a long walk at Epping forest...
E.
Large pub with Premier Inn attached, good location for forest walks so pub/restaurant handy for food clean and friendly staff
T. M.
The Food was great. The service at the door was non existent and the service was a tad too slow but the staff were very friendly.
It's a shame because it's such a lovely family venue.
L. S.
Went today for the Sunday carvery. The food was really good. Great value for money and definitely family friendly. It's a popular place so it's a good idea to get there early.
J. W.
Shown to a table that they had already say someone at that had gone to order food so not a great start to a Sunday lunch. Then took about 10 or more minutes of queuing up to get the roast dinner from the " chef" I rate it as average.
J. S.
Lovely menu, polite staff, good service, great food.
G.
No signal anywhere, free WiFi is poor.
S. H.
Very friendly reception, quick service and good food. Thank-you.
A. J.
Visit at least twice monthly and always if we have family or friends come to stay. Good value for good food. Staff really polite and helpful. Best to book a table weekends as so popular.
t.
The server is a little slow but the food is worth the wait and the atmosphere is great. Definitely suggest the place for a lovely pub lunch. Walk before, walk after. Just a great place to stop either way.
P. V. C. L.
Sam and Kelly are very welcoming. Couldn't ask for better staff at any place. Very happy with the service and would recommend the good staff and good food. 5* Stars
R. T.
Excellent service, excellent food , really well organised and covid secure.. highly recommended.
M. F.
Ate here a few times and the best experience is the Sunday roast, which offers unlimited sides of vegetables, roast potatoes and all the trimmings. It can get very busy at times, especially weekends but the place is really big and there are outside seatings, weather permitting.
M. D.
Myself and Hubby booked in for a Christmas day dinner,We both enjoyed the food starter, main and dessert, everything was cooked and presented well.
Service was excellent and will booked there for next year.
L. O.
The food was not too bad, though the decor and atmosphere was a bit tired n run down. Parking was great.
S. R. B.
Felt dirty eating there
Staff members young and not very experienced. One young man with glasses was very helpful when he found out that the other young man forgot my drinks and had disaapeared for an hour.
A. B.
Food and service excellent. Good distancing and v.clean loos. Would come again. Nice place after long walk.
K. D.
Shabby decor giving impression that place is tired and run down.Service was efficient enough and my meal of Mediterranean kofte and chicken was of good standard. However my wife's Caesar Salad consisted of a reasonably cooked and flavoured chicken but the lettuce was appalling, consisting of crudely cut stumps which were stale and brown at the edges. The waitress was very understanding and agreed to waive the cost.Desserts were fine.Room for improvement.
J. R.
We had a very good breakfast. Tailored to individual needs.
K. R.
Three stars for the location. Food and service were below average.
C. H.
Traditional British pub. Great location near Epping Forest. Great views. Nice large spacious pub with a large beer garden and a car park. Traditional British pub food was good. Nice outdoor garden for relaxing in hot Summer days. Sunday roast.
Z.
Great place to eat on a budget, decent food for what you pay and large selection of food on the menu and also buffet menu is never the same everyday. Also in perfect area to spend your summers with forest walks just a minutes walk away and 10 minutes from Chingford station
T. F.
Staff are great, always accommodate us, even without a booking. Good quality food, very reasonably priced and in a beautiful location.
C. S.
It's fine, same as most others in the chain. I used to work here nearly 20 years ago and think it's a shame they got rid of the kids play areas, both inside and outside. (We barred a couple for having sex in the outside area after closing - saw it on the CCTV, haha).
Extra star for location...
B. E.
Great new menu. Four adults and two children well feed and happy. Was busy, with good atmosphere, loved the lamb shank and mash.
P. G.
Very good food , steak cooked to perfection and very tender. Quick service and very polite staff. Will definitely go again.
R. M.
Great choice of food available. Pub also. Historical. Near New Forest walks. Good accommodation upstairs. Queen Elizabeth 1 hunting lodge next door to view and see inside.
B. W.
It was ok. Food wasn't amazing but it wasn't expensive either. Guinness was good
D. B.
A lovely location looking across Epping Forest. A pleasant traditional looking pub restaurant with plenty of free car parking. We use this place on a regular basis to meet up with friends for mud week lunch.
S. H.
Excellent breakfast. Good value and friendly staff
s. l.
A very good meal well cooked in good time it was great as we had our niece home and it was my wife's birthday as well so a big well done the staff at the royal forest
J. t.
Another one of North Chingford's fine establishments. The location is beautiful, on top of a hill overlooking the 4,000 year old Epping Forest. The food, drink, decor is as you would expect from a chain pub/restaurant, but in my opinion it is well run and what a great location. people of all ages will feel welcome, has a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.
C. R.
Service was good but not very much on the menu for vegetarians.
J. T.
Lovely food we had..people smoking right outside of back door to back seating area getting in way of people coming and going throw door..but staff very friendly.busy place.
D. B.
Good food and very cheap you have to go to bar to order food always tables available but very busy on sundays so book first.
D. B.
Busy place and can sometimes take a while to get served at the bar. Food is nice and there's a good selection. Big outdoor area to sit with dogs if you have them.
S. M.
Cheap food if you go before 6 pm, and how for a meal deal. Foods good for the price. Great location if you want to go into Epping Forest. Good place to cycle to.
S. F.
Excellent food & service. Staff very attentive, social distancing & covid precautions in place.
J. B.
