Reviews of Sichuan House Chinese Restaurant
W. J.
Really fantastic food. The aromatic crispy duck (pictured) was delicious. We also had frogs legs, prawn noodles, morning glory, Sichuan rice and it is as all great. Strongly recommend. Host was also a really nice guy. Great experience all round
L. S.
Went with a group of friends and was pleasantly surprised how good this place is. If you like spicy food, this is the restaurant!
We had lamb, pork fish, aubergine, Kung po, plenty of drinks and were all very happy and well fed.
Excellent staff and we were left to order as we go, without rush
Highly recommended

Authentic Sichuan food and fakeaway white people Chinese food looked pretty good too
Although the first time we tried to dine here we got ignored because they were so busy during eat out to help out
K. L.
I really wanted to love this place and for the most part the food is very tasty, so I’d recommend absolutely trying it if you love spicy traditional sichuan style cuisine. The star missing is due to cost/value ratio - the restaurant isn’t cheap and perhaps the restaurant experience is better than the takeaway as the takeaway food seemed lacking in portion size and overall value (aubergine pork dish had 3 crumbs of pork that i could find ). I will definitely try again but will go to sit in next time!

We love the food at Sichuan House, very authentic, fresh and most importantly tasty! I’ve tried at least 15 different dishes there and they’ve all been amazing, no complaints at all. The service is exceptionally good for a Chinese restaurant, and the waiters are polite and accommodating especially as we have a toddler that can be fussy with his food. The private karaoke room downstairs is spacious and ideal for parties or gatherings with friends, families and colleagues. We’ve been to Sichuan House a few times and all our guests have thoroughly enjoyed their meal and plan to return. If you are after fresh authentic and reasonably priced Sichuan & Chinese food with top service, this is the place to visit for a lovely meal! I’m so happy that we don’t have to venture all the way to Chinatown for our fix of Chinese food.

Don't miss Sichuan House if you fancy a nice Chinese restaurant with loads of flavours. Food doesn't feel heavy or oily which is unusual for some Chinese restaurants. Plenty of space, even try it if you have kids or babies, they do accommodate you. They have wine, beer and soft drinks. Price wise it's slightly over the cheap and cheerful but quality won't deceive you. A must in the area!

First time here.was looking for a decent chineses and came from
East London- gotta say lovely foooooood! I’m mean really really nice and tasty, plus staff are excellent!
You know some Chinese restaurants try to rush you out well not these guys.
I will come here again and recommend as the price as well compliments the food .
Shredded chilli beef was perfect for me and all the food was fresh and tasty.😋
I highly recommend this place trust me 💯👍🏻👌🏻

Authentic Sichuan food, cooked brilliantly. I've eaten my fair share of of Sichuan food (in China and London) and I find it's often off-balanced in London - excessively vinegary, numbing, or highly MSG'd. But they get the balance right here!

This place does amazing hot pot, but also has a wide menu full of delicious Chinese food. The staff is always very nice and kind. The place itself is very nice as well, the attention to detail is great.
A. L.
Wonton Noodle Soup was authentic and hit the spot! Great menu suitable for large groups but also for a quick and easy dinner when you're craving your favourite Chinese foods! Friendly staff, good service.
S. Z.
Great Sichuan food! Friendly service.
D. W.
Extremely friendly staff, went for something different and this place provides that in spades.
Each table has a hot plate which can heat a chinese flavoured broth for you to put your ingredients in. Lots of variety including scallops and for the more adventurous, tripe and other more exotic foods.
Chinese hot pot and frogs legs were tasty but very spicy, so beware. For those of who only want a little spice, go for the white coloured broth instead.
Lots of food for the price, provided boxes for leftovers and busy enough to have a good atmosphere, 4 stars because food was a little slow getting to the table.
A great place to try something different from your usual Chinese restaurant.
A. W.
If you want authentic Sichuan cuisine, then head to Sichuan House! The food is flavourful and prepared with care. The service was very attentive and helpful! Welcome to Upper Street, Sichuan House! We’ll certainly be back! (Note: there is a very large private karaoke room in the lower level you can rent!)

Genuinely the best tasting and best cooked Chinese food I have ever had. I had wanted to visit this place since it opened and honestly upset I didn't come sooner! Compliments to chef and entire team!
R. W. H.
Been in London over 15 years and this is the best Chinese that I have ever had in the UK. Even better than in Chinatown London. The flavours are outstanding and spicy on most dishes. Don't bother with the sweet and sour dishes though, just isn't that good. It isn't an authentic dish anyway. Really good food here.
V. G.
Chinese Restaurant serving sichuan style food. Huge portions and pretty tasty food. Slightly on the hot side for some folks but you can definitely find something suitable to your palate in their huge menu. Very good for large groups. Do try out if you like your Chinese food full of flavor and spices
Z.
Closer to 4.5, but everything was tasty. Not too oily too (considering Sichuan food). Fish soup is not bad. Siew mai is also good, juicy. Dry wok tofu is ok, could have stronger flavour. Cauliflower is good.
Prawn and chive dim sum: good
Fragrant chicken with dry chili: good
Preserved egg and dry chili: good
Seafood and tofu soup: similar to fish soup.
Chili king prawn fried rice: good
Needle mushroom with chili: not bad but too salty
Scallop dumpling: not bad
Special fried rice: not bad
Wonton soup: ok but meat is good
Salt and pepper tofu: good
Crab meat and sweetcorn soup: ok.
Salt and pepper squid: good
Bean curd and vege: ok
Smoked shredded chicken: good
Slice pig ears: not bad
Dry fried fine beans: good but probably too salty unless eaten with rice.
Home special tofu with pork: ok
Langoustine with chili sauce: too annoying to eat
Lamb skewers: good
Braised beancurd: not bad.
Chinese cabbage, garlic: ok.
Lamb with cumin: pretty good but obviously oily
Salt and pepper wings : not bad
Chef tofu with mixed seafood: quite good but salty.
Ma po tofu:
Sizzling lamb:
Shredded pork with green pepper:
Szechuan fried rice:

Probably the only place in London you cam try a Mandarin Squirrel Fish. Great food , polite and efficient staff. Highly recommend them !

Very delicious and authentic Sichuan cuisine. Will go back soon.!
B. G.
Very impressed... moved to London 2 years ago and coming from Aus we have lots of Chinese options. I found the Chinese in London lacking and I think found a very promising option. Will be back again. Highly reccomend the peaking duck and the braised beef brisket.
薛.
Pretty good Chinese food😍😍, please try Sichuan fried rice. And there have free prawn slices in the afternoon, free soup at noon.
A. G.
This is not your archetypal Chinese restaurant. Bold, authentic, eclectic Sichuan dishes, on top of some familiar Cantonese offerings, in a spotless, contemporary setting, with extremely welcoming, helpful and kind service. Iced water and fiery chilli oil in abundance and good value given the portion size. One main course and a noodles is more than ample for two. I have been 3 times in the last 2 weeks and am yet to be disappointed. The food is fresh and sublime, especially for those who like heat and powerful flavours. Stand out dishes for me include the lamb cumin, spicy sea salt aubergine with minced pork, and dan dan noodles (pictured - unbelievable value at £6.80). Will stay a regular for sure!
B. T.
One of the best authentic Sichuan cuisine! The food is flavourful and prepared with care. The service was very attentive and helpful! Had Cumin Lamb and Beef Brisket for lunch and it was amazing! Will be back soon!
S. S.
For the price of the dishes, the place is not bad. But I was hoping the food would be more spicy/fiery as it's Sicuan style. Was a tad disappointed to find the food a bit watered down. The dimsums were really good though and a must try I would say.
F. B.
This is a good Chinese restaurant. The food is however overpriced and portions are quite mean in son some of the dishes. The prawn dumpling dish is an example. For £8.80 you get three dumplings fir two people. Foe this reason I may not be going back so quickly
When I asked to speak to the manager the waiter told me he was not there
L. Z.
Decent food and reasonably priced. Not as authentic as I’d expect but would probably be easier for the locals to enjoy the Sichuan cuisine.
F. S.
Salt and pepper squud ..veey dry amd chewy..hardly no squid.
When i told the manger he just said that how it is crispy...
And didt take it of the bill ..
Roast duck was nice .when it finally can3
L. G.
The gorgeous Ling was a spectacular host. The green scallop dumpling is a stand out menu item. Loved the dim sum selection, always delicious, and the morning glory is mouth watering!
H. P.
Excellent food! I order from here regularly and have never had a bad experience. Their Szechuan Fried Rice is 👌. Highly recommend this place.
M. B.
Fresh and authentic Sichuan food, by far the best we've found in London. Green beans, fragrant dried chili chicken, and pork with green peppers are all must orders.
W. S.
At lunch time, I found this new Chinese restaurant, decorated in a new Chinese style and in a comfortable environment. I ordered a special lunch, fish fragrant Aubergine on rice, aubergine was soft and smooth, and the sauce was delicious. The price is very affordable for a £7.8, and with daily soup. I will definitely come to this restaurant.

Incredible food and service in Islington!
During a short trip to London, my friends and I visited this place as we had heard it had just opened up in the area and we are always looking for good Chinese restaurants.
We ordered the double cooked pork and the mapo tofu with minced pork upon recommendation and they were both absolutely delicious!
Our dishes arrived quickly and the waitress who served us was very helpful in providing recommendations and generally very friendly, which made our meal all the more enjoyable. The prices were perfectly reasonable as well!
Highly suggest checking it out if you're in the area.
R. S.
Really delicious, spicy & full of flavour. I can recommend the Black Fungus, Boiled Fish with Chilli Oil, Sea Spicy Aubergine (which they did for us without pork) & the Morning Glory with Garlic is the best I've had in the UK. Everything we ordered was excellent! Will be back.
R. L.
This Sichuan restaurant is an oasis amongst the overpriced and overrated places in Upper Street. We had pork chops with Sichuan pepper, lotus root hotpot and green beans with garlic; everything delicious and 30 quid in total (including rice). They seem to be a family business, and they are very friendly (They will even allow you to bring your own alcoholic drinks.) I hope this place sticks around, it’s a refreshing change from what’s on offer in the area.
L. W.
Took a gamble on a quick lunch whilst waiting for an appointment at the town hall. Tasty Sichuan food and a lunch deal for about eight quid, I had the mapo tofu whilst my friend had the roast pork and rice, mapo tofu was excellent, and a generous portion, good numbing hit of Sichuan pepper. The roast pork looked fantastic, crispy and tender. Would definitely go again.
K. B.
Had lunch at Sichuan House today - first time back after lockdowns. Was as good as ever. Great food and good service .
T. L.
Breathtakingly outstanding. The Sichuan dishes are the best (obviously)- like being in China- the anglicised dishes (sweet and sour etc) were good but nothing you cannot get elsewhere. Our favorites, cabbage with pork and chilli; lotus root; dry chicken. All very reasonably priced. Exceptional. Please go.
A. B.
For context, I am Chinese and grew up eating authentic Chinese food. Unless I’m eating in Chinatown I’m sceptical about local takeaway Chinese food - what a wonderful find!! Thank you for the excellent homemade style food.
N. R.
Great sichuanese food. We had boiled fish in chili oil, lotus root, cumin lamb, ma po tofu and a few starters and all were fiery hot and very delicious.
Update: have now been here many times and it never fails to disappoint. Really excellent food and friendly service.
l.
4.5 stars for food & service, & the fact that it's on the main drag (Upper St).
And finally, a decent Chinese restaurant in Angel! Not sure why, but Angel is in serious need of Chinese spots.
There were 6 of us on a Sunday at 2pm - no reservations needed.
Good orders: crispy seafood noodle, pork bun (bbq and steamed), pork siumai, chicken dumplings (pan fried), aromatic duck.
I preferred the main dishes over the dimsum - the hakaw wasn't the best.
Came out to £27 per person with a round of tsingtao. I'll be back!
C. P.
This is really excellent. If you’re in a rush don’t bother reading further and just go.
I was searching for a chinese to quench a craving of spicy food. What a find! Had a wonton soup as a starter and the two time fried pork with special rice as main. Delicious. Takes just long enough so that you are sure this is genuine. Surrounded by people speaking chinese. Flavours are great, very balanced. Just hot enough to give you some kick without burning you. And very nice staff, open 7 days, hard working place. Hats down.
F. S.
Came here to eat after it was recommended by a friend. The food was excellent especially the dim sum! I ordered a glass of fresh juice to go with my meal which was also delicious. Would 100% recommend this place and will be visiting again when I am next in the area.
N. R. K.
Amazing food, staff and ambience! I especially loved the hotpot which offered an extensive selection of meat and vegetables! I also loved singaporean noodles and banana fritters. Would definitely recommend!

Authentic? No. But still pretty good? Yeah.
I had their 重庆辣子鸡, which they call "Fragrant Chicken with Dry Chili" and their Dan Dan Noodles (担担面).
First, the chicken. I have eaten various versions of this dish at ~30 restaurants across three continents. The one here is much less spicy than usual (welcome to London), and the flavor isn't as bold (once again... London), but it does still have that MaLa tingle, if not most of the heat. The pieces were larger than usual, which did not initially strike me as odd, but I also noticed that they were cooked at a lower temperature for a longer period of time, which is not generally something that I associate with the dish, and I'm guessing that that's the reason. The portion was larger than I was expecting, and the meat was higher quality than I was expecting, and most of it appeared to be white meat. Personally, I actually liked that, although it was a bit too moist on the inside for this particular dish, and I'm wondering if they brined it, or if it's just the technique.
Second, the Dan Dan. Much like the chicken, it wasn't what I was expecting, but I appreciate it for what it was. To start, this dish is served wet, which frankly is not how dan dan is meant to be served. The bowl was more than half full of liquid. The taste was roughly what I expected, but it was diluted a bit by all the water. The noodles were also closer to the size and texture of udon noodles than a typical dan dan. Once again, the taste was fine, and the dish was reasonably prepared, but if you expect a traditional dan dan, you might want to order something else.
Finally, the staff. They were all amazing. They were perfect, and in addition to my desire to sample a few other dishes, I will definitely be coming back here in no small part due to the wonderful service.

Very good food and a good Sichuan menu, service is bit rough around the edges but that will all disappear once the delicious food appears on the table. Angel was screaming for a good Chinese place and Sichuan house has delivered exactly that !
O. L. M.
Great dinner, good and generous Chinese cuisine at affordable prices.

I had won ton soup and Seafood Udon with Sun Lik beer (brewed under licence by Shepherd Neame of Faversham circa 1698 if not before) and all was very tasty.
I also went on my birthday last year before they got their alcohol licence. It was good then, but better with a beer...
The waitress was clearly still learning English, but determined, hardworking and pushed on bringing me everything correctly and politely.
I look forward to coming back soon with my wife and finally getting stuck in to the hot pot...
R. J.
The food was incredibly incredible! Very pleased!!! Everything was cooked to perfection! I want to take the chef home 😁
The staff was very pleasant too!
5/5 💯🙏👌
F.
Delicious, will definitely come back!
H. C.
Ordered a Mapo tofu through Deliveroo. Disappointed because the sauce is bland and not much minced meat in it
S. K.
Fresh and authentic. Very good timing between appetizer and main. One of the best places to go for Chinese food (much better than Chinatown 😋)
J. K.
Decent Chinese restaurant located in the middle of Upper Street serving all your favourites and some Sichuan specialities. Food is reasonably priced
L. G.
We had an amazing evening with friends & kids gathering together after a long summer holiday.
The food was superb & plenty to share out. We will be back for more! Love it!

very nice food really delicious

The people of Islington no longer have to get their Chinese food off the back of a moped. Hurrah!!!!! Took the kids last night and they loved every dish ...not a scrap left. Bill was most reasonable. Will be back 👍
A. B.
Very tasty food and welcoming staff!! Definitely recommend!!
D. L.
Wasn't a fan of Sichuan cuisine but this restaurant is killing it, absolutely delicious. Must try the Mouth watering chicken!
C.
Delicious and reasonably priced! Food can be slightly salty but that’s generally the case with Sichuan cuisine from my experience.
S. S.
Finally a Sichuan House in Angel! Affordable lunch, great food and also perfect for groups who want to enjoy a traditional HOT POT (some tables are set for this) ... amazing experience!

Very nice food, drinks were a tad expensive.... large crack across the shop front window could be a hazard concern but food was great... which is the main reason I went there for.... recommend it to Chinese food lovers!
