Reviews of Silo London
D. S.
Fantastic experience. Everything was delicious, nicely presented. It was interesting to learn how everything was made/where it came from and what’s the zero waste process. Surprisingly furniture is very impressing as well! But the gem of the place is the staff that works there. They have a really cool atmosphere there and seem like happy people in general. Everyone we spoke to was passionate about what they do and we’re gladly telling us more. Would definitely recommend this place and we’ve already been back since this pictures were taken.

We had such a great experience at Silo! We ordered the tasting menu for two people, sticking to vegetarian dishes. The food is incredible and brings you on a tasting journey.

Had an amazing dinner experience at Silo.
We had the wine food pairing and we were clearly not disappointed about our choice.
The food was an explosion of flavour going super well with each wines we had.
The team was extremely knowledgeable and passionate, you could tell. They have been explaining the concept and ethos but also food and wine.
We felt relaxed by watching the action happening in the kitchen whilst seating at the bar.
Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had an absolute stunning experience eating at Silo. The dishes where truly innovative and inspiring. This restaurant has been on my eat out bucket list for a while!
I really love how they've combined a Bauhaus aesthetic with industrial warehouse-style dining and exotic ingredients.
Hats off to the staff for the wine selection and to the kitchen for an enchanting tasting menu. Food was unique, multilayered and delicious.
Their commitment to be zero waste is impressive: no bins, nothing is thrown away. It's great to finally see someone in the food industry becoming more environmentally conscious.

I was honestly a bit disappointed.
I love the idea of this restaurant and what they do in terms of recycling and zero waste policy. It is great that a business cares and pushes in that direction, and for that they all have my respect, and it is mostly the reason of my 3 stars.
Unfortunately the food is not worthy. It is extremely pricy for what it offers. I am sure it is possible to have the same policy and make better and more creative dishes. Really, I was shocked when we got a £12 potato or a £13 asparagus (the pictures are portions for two people). The products are fresh, the taste is good, and you can tell that there is quality behind, but nothing more. There is not imagination, there was nothing that, given the same ingredients, I couldn’t make myself.
The wine paring was good and the service very thorough, but at the end of the night we felt a bit robbed (and hangry) and the bill just didn’t feel right for the experience we had.
If they want people to support their idea of business there are other ways, and again, I would be happy to do it, but in regards of the food either you step up your games or lower the prices.

What an incredible premise for a restaurant. Doug & his knowledgeable dedicated team are a joy to see work and the results of the kitchen are incredible. We had the tasting menu and every single mouthful was a total joy. go now, run quick - its incredible - we had a mushroom dish that has - to quote my boyfriend "changed his life forever" and "it's like a mushroom, injected with mushroom, making the best mushroom you've ever eaten"
Everything we ate was incredible, the ethos of the restaurant is so admirable and made us want to be better people and consider how we consume - but its not a preachy thing - its just a bloody joy from the first mouthful until the last !!!! Go quick, I think it will have a Michelin star before we know it - and very well deserved. LUSH

I visited Silo for the first time this afternoon and I was blown away. I visited because I am researching into zero waste for my university project. Designing the interior for a restaurant space and I chose the concept of low waste and sustainability.
The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and detail. Also beautiful wine choices too! The staff were all so welcoming, knowledgeable and lovely which really created a great atmosphere along with the beautiful interiors.
I have come away feeling so content after having this experience and have found some inspiration for my project. Thank you for such a wonderful lunch/experience and see you again soon!

Very nice ambience , and service.
Food is overall ok - but not mind blowing. In the tasting menu you only get the chance to have literally one bite of everything, so these bites are not always enough deliver.
Overall, paying £10 for some bites of tasteless cucumbers or £12 for 2 pink fir potatoes - is sth I cannot understand, and no matter how smart they will market it to me , I’m not convinced….

Really love the concept and the restaurant is a really nice place. We sat at the bar so had a view right into the kitchen, which was cool. The food was good, but the portions could definitely be more generous, especially given the price. (We paid £13 for one jerusalem arthicoke in a bit of sauce and £17 for one king oyster mushroom on a small amount of koji porridge.) We had bread + 5 plates (which is what they recommend for 2 people to share) but were still hungry at the end (and actually went to the brewery next door and had beer and some nachos after we left!)
D. C.
Such a great and fancy date night. Fantastic initiative with no waste, staff were super friendly and great ambience. They suggest ordering one of everything and if you’re hungry, definitely do. We both loved the carrots, knuckle flatbread and the desserts (not to be missed).
You’ll need around 2 hours to digest the whole meal (we reserved a table at crate which we had to rush for- our fault!)
Paired with sparkling rosé- yes please!

Heard about the innovative and responsible thinking of Silo pre-pandemic, and been itching to go ever since. Set in a converted warehouse, the room is spacious, modern and welcoming - and all the staff were super, making the whole experience wonderful. Particularly loved that founder Doug served most of the dishes himself, telling us the story and origins of each dish. We savoured each mouthful and eagerly discussed afterwards - a real sensational foodie experience! How exciting to have these forward thinking chefs produce such beautiful and delicious food with zero waste here in Hackney. I’ll be back!

Couldn’t be happier that my favourite Brighton spot decided to relocate to the big city! And boy they’ve upped their game! Really impressive wine selection, featuring some really funky nectars. The atmosphere, set up, concept and service all click together to perfection. And let’s no forget the food: sophisticated yet accessible, with honest flavours through innovative combinations. Welcome in London guys.

Silo is some of the best food I have ever had. Not only was the food spectacular but the service was lovely, every employee took the time to chat and were all hugely knowledgeable and dedicated. We had the perfect Saturday night dinner sauntering through the courses on the tasting menu, even more impressed with each new course that came out. The setting is perfect; low key and not contrived whilst also being modern and impressive. The sustainability angel was another bonus, whilst normally sustainability focused stuff is more expensive/not as tasty, this was the opposite. So 10/10
My only suggestion would be a little more signage on the road : ) but that's all! Will definitely be back!

This was a truly fantastic experience. The staff were friendly, accommodating and informative, and the food was absolutely delicious.
We opted for the 'All In' option, which as a party of two meant we were given one of every dish on the menu, to share. Given that there are 10 dishes on the menu (plus an extra from the kitchen), this was a good amount of food. They were able to swap the fish and meat options for vegetarian ones very easily.
The pumpkin seed ice cream with furikake, and the asparagus with parmesan garum were the highlights, but every single dish had a distinct and wonderful flavour. The 'quavers' pictured, were completely unique and I shall think about them for a long time!
P. D.
The food is phenomenal. Their wine list is superb. The service is excellent. And their ‘no waste’ policy is inspired (they crush empty wine bottles and turn them into crockery, they turn discarded ‘happy gas’ canisters from London streets into kitchen knives!). My favourite restaurant in east London, by miles.
P. L.
A place that makes you forget everything you know about having food. Flavours are just unique and (so) interesting.
Great service, design and overall atmosphere.
Top top restaurant in London

Incredible is the only word to describe this place. They are leading the way in environmentally conscious eating. The food was absolute delicious, beautifully balanced and healthy as well as being completely zero waste.
If you are on a budget go for brunch ! They have plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dishes and the staff were super helpful and knowledge. The team feel like they really care about the food and the place. Not to mention the great space and beautiful view over the canal. The open kitchen is a plus for the chefs among us! A truly inspiring place that I hope will lead the way in zero waste living and eating across London.
Nb. We went for brunch and had the Miso porridge with Quince, and gf sourdough with increddddible shiitake mushrooms & hemp crepe & gf with poached egg, great coffee too 🥚🥣☕️
M. B.
100% recommend for brunch! Delicious food, beautiful setting (Brooklyn industrial vibes), and excellent service. Had the vegan option which was great and the figleaf kombucha which I can’t get over. Love the concept of course and the fact that they forage the ingredients around Hackney Wick?! Mind-blowing
A. A.
The staff at Silo could not have treated us better. The team who came thoughtfully suggested drinks, welcomed us with a very curious cider to celebrate my partner's graduation.
One member of our group suffers from Autism and felt alienated by the member and the team served him something he felt comfortable eating and loaded the table with bread.
Ignoring the fantastic staff, the food was creative, socially responsible and delicious. Even the one dish I did not like I was appreciative to have tried and experienced it.
The price is completely justified and I could not recommend this place enough.
P. H.
Lovely setting and incredibly friendly and informative service. The tasting menu was incredible, with plenty of intrigue and surprises. Considering the quality and range of food, it's really not badly priced either.
Really interesting what they're doing with zero waste too, hopefully something that will catch on across restaurants more generally.
A. M.
Probs one of - if not the best restaurants I've experienced around London
Waiters will instantly put you at ease and will take the time to explain what you're about to experience.
Would suggest the All-in with wine pairing for two.
Food was absolutely divine and wine pairing was non conventional and well adjusted.
Would definitely consider going back!
D. A.
Amazing experience. The food, cocktails, wines, attention to detail - everything was top notch!
R. K.
Nice ambience, well presented and great zero waste ethos, but 100% not worth the money charged for the dishes. Over 10 pounds for a tiny vegetable dish is crazy, especially as the flavours are okay and nothing special. There are many other restaurants in hackney that are better value for better food.
M. T.
Came yesterday, wow what an unbelievable experience. Stunning architecture and building but the food was absolutely beautiful. Stunned at the flavours and intensity of the food in such a concentrated amount. Lovely atmosphere with chefs working in front of us, love the concept and care put into everything. Will be recommending to everyone. Bravo!!!!
C. O.
The food was out of this world. Such amazing flavours, and especially when you hear that it is all created on site, even the butter & yoghurt is homemade.
S. K.
Great selection of largely vegetarian food made with care and attention to detail. We sat at the bar, and the pride with which the chefs prepared the food was very evident. They were only too happy to talk about it with us, and the person that served us was as knowledgeable about the provenance of the produce as the chefs were. I like the sustainable approach they have not only to their food but the way the restaurant operates too - with boards made of melted down old chopping boards, and knives made from recycled casings just two examples.
Most importantly of course, the food was delicious! So much flavour packed into so many dishes, with great use made of the open wood fired pit, without everything simply tasting of smoke. Great wine list, and good recommendations from the waiter. I can't wait to return
C. D.
So very good. We returned tonight for the first time since December. I was blown away on previous visits by how incredible the food was and had extremely high exceptions for tonight. I was not disappointed. The new menu is even better then the last one. There were no weak links. Every single dish was noteworthy. Just incredible. The service is also faultless, throughout. The wine was great. I can’t waIt to return. Thank you SIlo, you don’t disappoint!
S. P.
Basically we were prepared to have an elegant and simple launch.
The feeling of eating something that doesn't has waste helped us enjoy the dinner and appreciate everything even more.
The hospitality and the opportunity to watch the chefs cooking live was outstanding.
Each plate had its own story to tell and a lot of background behind.
We had the best potatoes and probably the best bread and cuttlefish of our life's. All the plates were excellent but the 3 above were amazing.
I would definitely go back and also recommend the place to enjoy your wine and the small plates.
The price in cromparison to what we got back was definitely the best quality of products and cooking perfection.
Thanks Silo London!!

Once of the best dining experience I had in London. 👌👌👌
L. S.
I've had the pleasure of eating here twice now and it's the best London dining experience I've had to date. The all in with the wine pairing is sublime, especially the final desert pairing. Silo is the home of the most delicious potatoes I've ever had.
M. L.
Amazing food and drink options across the board. Well thought out dishes with clarity of flavour that champion responsibly sourced produce and genius house-made zero waste ingredients. Well curated wine list from great low intervention wineries, and delicious beer, cocktails and coffee to boot.
Beautiful light and airy space, perfect for social distancing, composed of equally well thought out materials (ask about the various recycled/carbon negative things around the room!) One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had!
A. I.
Best restaurant in London! By a long mile! Zero waste, maximum flavour. The attention to detail is off the hook, and the service is so amazing too. Thank you Silo please keep doing what you’re doing you are pushing everything to new heights of amazingness xx
I. Z.
Amazing food, amazing service, 100% recommended.
I. M.
Honestly best dining experience I have had all year. The food was fresh and unique. They catered exceptionally for vegans. The service was the best I have encountered in London, truly superb. The waiter was so friendly and knowledgable about wine. It was such a brilliant night and the space is beautiful.
I. D.
Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish which made our romantic dinner date amazing. The ideology behind chef Doug’s mind is humbling and we should all learn from it. Beautiful, delicious plates + wines. Synergetic team with superb service. Perfect ambient atmosphere. Thank you, great chatting to you. You’re in my book of gems to visit again. P.S. Don’t forget to get the book too!
L. S.
The food was delicious, although the portions are very small and the volume poured for a glass of wine feels a bit stingy...
Still a nice experience.
I would have liked to know how the dishes were zero waste.
Would recommend trying the potatoes with the hollandaise and the chocolate cake
g. T.
Excellent food , truly a great experience from the venu itself to service. I was not disappointed
C. C.
We live everything- the food, the service, the space. 🙌🏽 we went for brunch and are now planning to go back for dinner as soon as we can!!
N.
Overrated. Not revolutionary. Your standard nan has more re-use in her kitchen . Who wants to pay £12 for half of a purple potato? The food was ok..but small. The decor was standard. Nothing seemed particularly eco-friendly in the furniture or restaurant.
D.
I went for the dinner set menu with a friend and we both really enjoyed everything. Every dish packed a punch of wonderful flavours, and it was all beautifully presented. The staff was very friendly and happy to explain the food in detail. I found the vibe and layout very pleasant as well- buzzy but still relaxed and not loud. I definitely recommend checking out this place!
B. G.
Went there yesterday for a coffee to go, and was pleased to find a lovely shop with quality coffees, selection of pastries and also a nice zero-waste grocery store inside.
M. E. Q. v.
Amazing dining experience!!!! Steven and the rest of the staff were incredibly attentive. The food was delicious.
D. L.
Good concept - zero waste
Nice design and lovely looking food
But food doesn’t taste as good as it costs
s. m.
What an amazing experience. From the moment me and my girlfriend arrived at the reception the staff have been absolutely amazing! They explained the concept and guide us through the all meal with suggestions and little talks without invading our space. Food is great and if you are sit at the counter you will have Douglas McMaster and the brigade working right in front of you. The environment is industrial but warm.
This is a gem and will be back soon!
T. V.
Wonderful concept delivered with panache and elan by the committed staff. Tasting menu had a excellent combination of flavours which married well with the recommended wine pairing. Great to see a front of house staff who clearly believed in what they were serving and eager to inform you on what you were about to eat. Highly recommended.
I. P.
Very nice location, setting and friendly staff. The butter and bread was to die for. So delicious! The entire menu though wasn't filling enough.
F. F.
This place is amazing!
We went there for brunch, food was amazing.
I highly recommend the Kimcheese, but the rest was no less.
Not only everything they serve is made out of scratch but the whole place inside is sustainable and thoughtful.
The chef was so kind with us, explaining and showing every little detail and answering to all our questions.
The staff was very friendly.
We will definitely go back!
A. L.
Great food, great wine and great service.
Staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, and clearly following all the necessary precautions so we felt perfectly safe and looked after. We will be back.
M. O.
Delicious food, excellent drinks pairings and really impressive service. Sit at the counter to see the magic happening. My only feedback was that there was little meat or fish on the menu, very vegetable heavy. That said everything was extremely tasty.
G. A.
Great experience. The king oyster dish was delicious.
A. M.
Really nice experience and friendly staff
We enjoyed a Sunday brunch in a very nice and cosy atmosphere. The staff is super friendly and patient, taking the time to answer questions and we were not rushed in our meal despite one of our guests being late! highly recommend for a delicious and healthy meal!
L. H. J.
Absolutely fantastic evening. Food was phenomenal, as were the staff. Thank you so much! Such a great concept, and so interesting to learn about how all the food is reused from the very knowledgeable waiter!
P. A.
Great coffee, good vibes. Superb mission.
B. B.
"A unique place to relax, and to eat sustainable, really delicious dishes that send the tastebuds into overdrive! Such a forward thinking, great concept of having a zero waste restaurant where the chefs use inventive techniques and on seasonal products. We will definitely come again."
S. W.
Amazing friendly staff, elegant dishes, and a great location
V. J.
Awesome dinning experience around local products and per-industrial food craftsmanship.
m. b.
My second time. It was again spectacular apart from the desserts. The team also seemed a bit discontent with the evening in general. Always a fine experience though.
H. D.
Had such a great evening. The food is delicious and everyone who works there truly believes in what this place stands for and is proud to be a part of it. I will definitely be going back. Love this place.
G. H.
Lovely ethos of no waste and lovely food. But the table turnaround was very tight.
G.
Excellent food and stuff! Probably one of the best restaurants in London.

I’m giving this four stars, as that’s the number of new potatoes we got for £12.
