Reviews of Social Eating House

We booked for a 50th get together. Started in the bar upstairs, lovely decor and attentive bar service with well priced drinks. Sadly this did not follow through to the dining room.
Service was lacking and mediocre at best, table was nice but got hot as the spot lights were pretty intense!
The wine order took about 20 minutes to arrive and had to explain which wine first. Food order was taken and sadly they forgot one of the main courses!! It later arrived undercooked! Not what you would expect from a restaurant of this calibre. Food was fine and beautifully presented and delicious, sadly the service let it down hugely!

The Chef's counter experience was so good, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. We felt really comfortable and relaxed and the service was excellent. A special thanks to Oliver in the kitchen, he was really informative and very easy to chat to. All in all a great evening and I would really recommended. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Just wow! Amazing experience at the chefs counter, sitting in the kitchen. Fantastic atmosphere and so much fun to be able to chat with the chefs as they worked. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming.
The food was outstanding, from presentation to taste, absolutely flawless.
The tasting menu is a lot of food! So arrive hungry. They paid attention to our dietary requirements/preferences too.
The only criticism was that the drinks took wayyyy too long to arrive. We had been served two food courses before our first drink arrived. The food did arrive very quickly and we felt a little rushed. Would’ve been nice to have longer gaps. I wonder if they had other bookings after us that they were trying to fit in?
Overall a great experience and a wonderful evening.

Full 5 stars from me and would give 6 if I could. Went there last week for a dinner at the Chefs Counter downstairs in the basement. Just wow! Food - oh my God! Culinary orgasm! Wine paring - perfect!
Very much enjoyed watching the kitchen too - like beautiful choreographed chaos!
Looking forward to be back and try the new Christmas Menu.

Was a stunning evening, had the experience of the chefs table and it was amazing! Friendly staff great cooking! Paul hood and the team made it a very special night!

Just had a lovely lunch here. Cosy welcoming feel, peaceful away from the hustle and bustle of Xmas shopping, and not too noisy even when it got a lot busier later on.
Seasonal menu looked enticing but a little too large for us at 3 courses for lunch. If I remember it was about £54 with a cocktail but don't quote me on that.
We opted for a hake dish and venison dish with a side order of triple cooked chips.
Absolutely delicious, the vension shoulder trimmings came as a lasagne on the side, with the fillet on the main plate.
Friendly attentive service and nice to have a change of vibe compared to Pollen Street social (Another favourite).

Food sublime - service somewhat lacking.
We went for the festive lunch menu. Had one each of the starters , both delicious , but placed infront of the wrong customer, before we could say anything he had dashed off the get the dressing for the bream ..( I know this isn't a huge thing but having been to other Jason restaurants it was a bit off) . We moved onto main course with chicken, cranberry, creamed Brussels...fabulous flavours and presented beautifully, my partner had the flat iron steak , again cooked to perfection but the given steak knife wouldn't cut through it , had to ask for a sharper one. Again these are not huge issues but not to the standard we expect from going to an Atherton restaurant. And just a bit slow all round.
Wouldn't rush back there, where as all the others we have wanted too and occasionally have 😊

Want a Michelin star chef to cook your dinner?
We gave this place some high ratings. It’s definitely a pricey place to eat, but is it worth it? I say yes!
We ordered: Roasted Cumbrian Herdwick lamb rump 🐑, coco beans, aubergine, tamarind, sheepmilk ricotta, lamb fat. This isn’t somewhere I would eat regularly. I would go here to celebrate (e.g. getting a promotion) 🥳. The service was amazing; the waiter even poured our sauce for us. It was very dark inside - initially we walked straight past it because it looked closed from the outside. Although it was a very small portion size, it did have a high quality taste (but we weren’t full at the end of our meal).
Ratings out of 10:
- Taste: 8 😋
- Service: 8
- Price: 9 ££££
- Presentation: 9

A feel of class, but not in your face, moreover subtle and refined decor and ambience. Greeted warmly we were met by our waiter who talked us through the menu. The descriptive on the menu is imaginative and benefits from a little explanation… both interesting and fun. When it came to the food… a flavour explosion, dining Nirvana. I could easily compose an individual write up on every course. For fear of boring you, I will simply say that every course was 11/10!! But I have to say, the dessert was mind blowing. We will most definitely return

Fantastic for foodies. Excellent crafted menus wonderful staff and a fabulous cocktail menu, if you have the time book a table at the Blind pig (which is their bar upstairs) for some truly unique cocktails pre or post dinner.

Great scallop starter. But unwhelming mains, the halibut was overcooked, and while the venison was cooked perfecty the lasagne didn't add to the dish at all. I've had much better meals in london , and it was a shame that my favorite bread and wine was closed. I mentioned to the waiter my feelings on the mains but no comment was made. I would have let that slide but from the moment we walked in we felt like we were looked down on even though the restaurant was quiet they had to check if tables were available. We also were asked to provide our name and number as if a possible no pay risk even, and after paying the bill and service charge ready to leave no one brought our coats back , having to walk of shame across the restaurant to obtain them. Much better food for the price to be had where you do actually feel welcome.
G. W.
We grabbed a bit of tea, as a group of four. The staff were fine, not ground breaking but they did their job.
The food was nice, my starter of scallops was unpleasant, I tried to enjoy it but it was cold and was just smokey and mushy.
My main of pork was much more pleasant; but the meat was very fatty and appeared to be rare? I couldn’t finish it.
The Australian Shiraz was not to my taste either, so I opted for a pint of lager.
I noticed a seating area in the kitchen, which looked interesting.
The toilets were nice, clean and smelled lovely.
For the money you pay, this is a bit much. I just could not justify it. The staff were fine but not wow- which you would expect from this standard of restaurant.
Also, the cheeky service charge left a bad taste in my mouth.
I would try this once and see what you think. I could be completely wrong about it.

Great lunch experience, and loved the items on the prix fixe menu. It's a steal for £45 for 3 (DELICIOUS) courses. Service was also on par. Would 100% visit again. Has the tartare as a starter, pasta as a main, and 70% Chocolate Delice as dessert. Only managed to get a photo of the dessert it was all that good!
One suggestion for the restaurant would be to label on the menu which items can be made GF, vegetarian or vegan, just to alleviate a guest's concerns for dietary restrictions
R. B.
Incredible experience at the chef's table. The food is incredible, the service is fantastic, extremely knowledgeable sommelier and great atmosphere. Thanks for an evening to remember!
J. H.
Incredible dining experience. Chef's table was intimate and thrilling. Love watching chef's do their thing.

Wonderful food and sublme service. Another excellent restaurant by Mr Atherton

Food was amazing.... Service was awful. On arrival the greeting wasn't the best, then we waited ages for water and had to ask for it in the end. Bread arrived (tasted amazing) they said the butter would be brought over again after waiting 10 mins asked for the butter. My drink was whisky and coke, arrived in as a glass of whisky and glass of coke then at the table when question the waiter tried to pour them together at the table (this happened twice). When the mains arrived we were 2 plates short for our food. The wines we ordered were mixed in the glasses. Need I go on. Give them credit after we complained they deducted the service charge. Not the kind of service you expect. Shame food was brilliant but that's only half of the enjoyment.

62C Slow Cooked Heritage Breeds Hens Egg, Crispy Frog Leg, Peas and White Garlic Veloute, 40 Days Aged Cumbrian Black Angus Flat Iron, Cooked over Charcoal, Large Leaf Salad and Triple Cooked Chips and Marinated English Strawberry, Sweet Tomato Juice, Fresh Cheese Sorbet and Sorrel Leaf Granite

This place used to have a Michelin star a couple of years ago, now it only has a mention, but the food is still at star level. You don't get a tasting menu, but choices from la carte are easy. Either meat or fish is all exceptionally tasty. For the wine let be advised by the Head of Sommelier Andrea, skilled, prepared and so nice with guests!
Will come back again for sure

I think this is everything a modern restaurant should be.
It is top level food and service without the pretence or snottiness of other establishments. I have been several times before, for occasions and casual meals. Their balance hit the right cord with every visit I have made. The set lunch is great and affordable way to introduce yourself to the restaurant. Or you could just treat yourself to a blow out supper.
I love the lamb that they offer, for me it is the best lamb that I have ever eaten.
B. D.
Had the chefs private 9 course menu on a work dinner. Absolutely great food. Wine was decent too. Staff were great
A. P.
I loved it! Nice interior, good buzz, great food, yummy and beautifully plated, also lots of interesting and rich combinations. Also I was pleasantly surprised they had a separate vegan menu - I was happy to be able to eat Michelin level vegan food. It was really well done, super creative and Satisfying. Well done !
J. H.
Rather small menu and a bit odd. Too much emphasis on trying to name every item under the sun rather than a well constructed choice. That said the food was reasonably tasty.
L. S.
Cool, relaxed atmosphere, with top quality service and menu. Fantastic wine list and knowledgeable sommelier to assist with pairing. Be back again soon!
R. P.
Wanted to say what an amazing lunch we had today at the chefs counter. Paul Hood and his team did an amazing job every course was a winner. Service was exemplary, particular thanks to the young chef who talked us through the dishes and the maitre de /sommelier both a credit to the restaurant. Sitting at the chefs counter allows you to appreciate the care and passion that the kitchen put into their dishes. We look forward to going back soon.
T. S.
What a fantastic restaurant, service and food are absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend if you want some quality food. If you go at lunch you can get the set menu which is very reasonable. Wine list was great with lots of choice.
R. E.
The 20 year old chef that served us at Chef' counter was a credit to Paul and his team. Great confidence and knowledge - he'll do so well i'm sure!Amazing food and a great experience. The food is like art and the flavors insane! Kind regards. Richard.
M. C.
Spent the evening at the Chef's counter , an amazing experience seeing these professionals at the top of their game doing their jobs. Absolutely cracking food, great wine pairing and a friendly and welcoming group of chefs and staff to boot , cannot recommend more highly !!!
B. R. W.
Really nice place, excellent food and service for reasonable price. We had 3 courses set menu with complimentary Champagne. Not Michelin star experience but good enough.
S. M.
Ambiance. Service. Food. Location. In that order. Highly recommend for a very good meal and dining experience. There’s a Michelin sticker in the window so I’m thinking it’s a “gourmand” or maybe 1 star as the food is really great, not The best. Though, by London standards it’s friggen amazing!! I recommend going shopping nearby and then sneak in here, cozy up to the bar and order away. The wine menu is fantastic too, and the staff knows exactly how to pair the wine w your meal. Enjoy!
D. D.
We went for a special occasion for drink and dinner. They made a bit of confusion with our reservation, but they found solution right away. Food is amazing (we made a chef table experience), why not 5 stars? We just found 2 plats not at same very high level then the rest of menu, but we already provided our constructive feedback on the spot.
Prices do correspond perfectly with the quality of food.
A bit different my opinion about the wine list. Very large choise but I think a bit expensive.
Big appreciation for decoration.
Anyway, I would come back next time in London.
M. D.
Delightful food, welcoming staff and a great atmosphere. Luckily it does not have an air of pretentiousness that similar establishments frequently have. There is often a set menu here too which is fantastic value.
N. M.
Refined food and wine with a relaxed ambience and attentive but not overbearing service. Quite cosy, the tables at the back looked a little close together - ask for a booth, or, the chef's table of 8 seats in the kitchen to be in the thick of the action.
We had the taster menu with wine, fantastically paired throughout. Menu was 6 courses, all delicious, but the turbot and lamb were triumphant.
Recommend for a date night or special occasion, you won't be disappointed.

Well deserved to be the number 2 restaurant by the Timeout London ranking.
Our service was outstanding (birthday dinner) and the food very delicious. good portions and the steak was perfectly cooked.
A good alternative to my favourite steak house HAWKSMOOR. Booking highly recommended.

Not sure exactly what the hype is about. Started off upstairs at the Blind Pig. Totally packed, dark, and unbearably hot! Service was really slow. It was also really weird that a place of that size only has 10 menus. (That was the excuse they gave why we couldn't keep one at our table to go over for the next drink. We had to look it up online.)
The cocktails were first ordered themselves were actually quite good despite the looooooong wait. (Hunny pot, Fowl Play, Shire). We'd barely had a few sips when our table was ready downstairs, also really hot but not quite as sweltering as upstairs.
This is where it got a bit annoying. Apparently you can't order cocktails from upstairs if you're eating downstairs because "it will take too long". We said we didn't mind waiting but they refused and insisted on the downstairs cocktails instead which were all 800% less interesting. And for some reason took FOREVER all the same. I don't understand the excuse of waiting time if the downstairs ones take just as long? All in all, not being able to order upstairs cocktails downstairs was a huge issue in my enjoyment of the night since that is what I was most looking forward to.
Service was nice but incredibly slow all through the night. Especially the bar. Some drinks took over 10 minutes to arrive!
Food was... decent. For a Michelin star restaurant, I expected more. The scotch egg was cooked terribly! (You can see my photo.) It was very undercooked. I've had better at local pubs. Tartare was really good. My friends enjoyed the ceviche most but I didn't since I don't like radish. For mains we shared the venison and the rabbit. Rabbit was cooked well but didn't really excite me tastewise. I only had a few bites. Venison was really nicely done but it wasn't outrageously good. Much like nice venison anywhere. Salami is salami. The drinks were meh, and had annoying raspberry powder on the outside of the glass. Desserts were nothing special.
We ended going back to the Blind Pig later in the week and it was totally empty!! We got the chance to try more of the cocktails and some were good, some weren't. Fowl Play was still nice. 5 a Day was fun to look at but a bit annoying to drink since it took forever for the fruit ices to melt. Lost and Found was AMAZING. The Tumnus Tipple wasn't great. Very weak and the powder on the glass got mess everywhere. It wasn't garnished like the photos. All the drinks except for a few tasted mostly of juice.
Overall, I didn't really enjoy the downstairs, or the refusal to serve blind pig's cocktails during dinner. The food was mediocre for the price and wait and expectations. Boring cocktails in the restaurant. Half of Blind Pig's cocktails are pretty good but not sure I'd ever bother with them on a busy Thursday, Friday or Saturday night.
M. S.
Lovely atmosphere with polite staff, great food and amazing food!
I must say, I usually don’t like thick cut chips but the duck fat chips were fantastic.
You also get to try the cocktails from the Blind Pig cocktail bar and are all based on children’s books (I believe) and not forgetting to mention that they taste amazing.
Would go there again to try the bar and more of the food!
J. J.
Pretty good place - the degustation was ok, I expected a bit more as I have been to Pollen Street Social and found that fantastic. The atmosphere and service was remarkable. I found the foods to be on the salty side - not quite what I’d expect for a 1 Michelan restaurant. The highlight was the entree and dessert, very tasty. They also have a bar upstairs so you can grab a drink / cocktail while you wait for the table. The cocktails are really nice.
E. B.
Had the Chef's Counter Experience menu with wine pairing. Seven courses with six wines. The quality of the ingredients combined with in creativity made this one of my favourite meals in London. The steak tartare was a highlight, as was the scallop ceviche and the venison. The service was incredible and the sommelier was very approachable. Seeing how professional their chefs and kitchen staff are definitely means I'll be returning.

Social Eating House was only a few minutes away from Soho Theatre so I decided to have the last dinner of the trip at this another restaurant of Jason Atherton.
It has the perfect vibe for chit chat and social gathering but it might become a distraction if the focus is on the food.
I have ordered the sampler menu with 6 dishes which lasted for 2.5 hours (from 9 to 11:30 pm). Some of the ingredients (such as the mushroom tea) are similar to those at Pollen Street Social but generally the food is less impressive or maybe I was too exhausted towards the end of the dinner.
It was fun nonetheless walking on the street in midnight in Soho area.
A. I.
Came here for a quick set lunch which is well priced at around £26 for 3 courses. I really enjoyed my main which was the Cod. The dish actually had flavor which usually is not the case in more upscale places. The environment here is more laid back. Great quality food. Would recommend if in area.
L. B.
Had the set 3 course menu, everything was delicious and the staff were attentive! Amazing food at a reasonable price in Soho. 👌
S. T.
The venue does seem a bit like an exclusive secret society. Everything on the menu was intriguing and I wanted to order each dish to try. We asked for some recommendations and the waiter seemed to know enough about the dishes.
The ham hock jar was surprisingly good and delicious with the piccalilli. Roasted loin of rabbit and black treacle cured cote de porc (pork chop sounds so much more fancier in French). Each dish was packed with flavour and I devoured every single thing on my plate. Dessert of clementine parfait and caramelised milk and brown sugar tart were just as good.
Wheelchair access: step free entrance and there is plenty of room to get around without having to ask other diners to move out of the way. There is also an accessible toilet within easy reach.
Service was good and food amazing. This is one of the few places where I want to try everything on the menu so will definitely be back for more.
W. L.
The entrance of Social Eating House might be a bit hard to find as there’s is always a long line queuing for the bar next door. Starters were amazing, we had scallop carppacio and the ham and scotch egg dish, they both tasted really good! For mains, we had the fish and duck, portions were massive, presentation of the fish was meh, could be improved. Like I said earlier, food portions were huge and we also ordered a side dish Macaroni cheese, portion of the side dish is huge as well, tasty though but we ended up not being able to finish it. Their desserts are pretty much the star of the show, we had the peanut ice cream and raspberry dessert, it was amazing! Could have another one if we weren’t already stuffed by mains! Prices are reasonable as their food portions are pretty big, for average eaters, you might just want to order the main without side dishes so you can enjoy the desserts too!

Fantastic food. We had a champagne tasting menu for Valentine’s Day. However it was super expensive, £350 for two people. The food was really good, but not sure I would say it is worth the extra ££. The bar upstairs is also good.
A. D.
Great experience.
The bar upstairs is a nice place to start or finish your meal.
Dinner was not rushed and staff where very well trained.
Really amazing food.
E. K.
Had an amazing time at the chef counter experience. The chef and sommelier were amazing and made us feel so comfortable. Every mouth full was insanely delicious. What a treat!

We had lunch here on Monday and booked a table at 12 pm. We arrived at 12.05 pm and realised the floor staff were having a briefing. We were asked to wait at the bar by the receptionist about 5-7 minutes and then got seated later. We waited for another 5 minutes until we got the menu from the waiter. After we ordered our drinks and food, it took 15 minutes for just orange juice and apple juices to arrive and 40 minutes for our starters to arrive. I have to say that this is very unprofessional and disappointing for such a Michelin star restaurant located in Soho. It was only 4 tables since we ordered our food and it took 40 minutes for the starters to arrive. It also took another 20 minutes for our main courses to arrive after the staff called it. I doubt and question the management, floor, bar and kitchen team to take action ASAP to fix this problem as you are supposed to operate and be ready to service customers at 12 pm not 12.30. This was very unprofessional especially when your restaurant was not busy at all.
However, I have to say that the staff's service was quite professional and the food was good. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also nice.
L. H.
Prepare your stomach...exceptional food, rich and beautifully presented. Great a la crate menu selection and also a sampler menu. Cocktail menu is excellent, courtesy of the upstairs cocktail bar. I have to question management of the front of house though. We had about 6 different people serve our table at various point, feeling intrusive and chaotic at times. Two men in particular were very surly to the point I nearly asked for them to not serve our table. One waiter really tried to push extras and sides to the point of having to forcibly decline. The sides would definitely have not matched or been needed with the mains. Had also prearranged a birthday cake but had to ask for this and show the birthday card that the team had remembered to put on the table. Conclusion: definitely worth a visit for the food, prepare for clumsy service.
S. C.
Excellent food & service. Highly recommend 👍
M. L.
I have mixed feelings about this spot, but their Italian sommelier made this a four instead of three star review. From the moment we walked in, he took great care of us by taking our bags and seating us at our table. Throughout our meal he checked in on us and impressed us with his wine recommendations and knowledge of the all the diff regions and grapes. While the broccoli appetizer was a bit embarrassing (it was soggy and looked the bad kind of home made), my vegan aubergine miso main course was phenomenal. Thank you for making a vegan entree that isn’t boring and lame. Now, was tempted to give three stars because aside from our som, the wait staff was highly underwhelming. I didn’t even know who our real waiter or waitress was. They came infrequently with the same average level of service. I mentioned this to a coworker and they said they also had the same experience when they went. Def room for improvement!
K. B.
Overall a pleasant experience. Good service, if a little slack sometimes (one of the waiters was perhaps new, no biggy).
We had the three course festive menu, very reasonably priced at £30 per person. The starter of duck ballottine was delicious!
The main of pork tenderloin was pleasant. The pork was cooked really well, but overall the dish was perhaps too sweet. The dates, apple, parsnip and red cabbage were all sweet so it felt a little unbalanced.
The lemon meringue pie was nice. Felt very ‘Amalfi ‘, very sweet, sour and cleansing.
Definitely worth a visit!
E.
One of my favourite cocktails bar in London, is located at the top of the social eating house but it's a little hard to spot either the restaurant or the bar. They change the cocktail menu I think once said year but if you don't fancy anything from the menu., they can always tell them what do you like and they'll be happy to make something specially designed for you. You need to book in advance.
J. L.
Had fish for starter but found it a bit salty. Chiken was good, and the yoghurt with basil was something new. Recommend.
J. H.
You gotta like this #winning concept of Michelin star food in a casual speak easy environment. The inventive Menu starts with cocktails like Dill or No Dill, and carries through to the deceptively simple sounding menu items like roasted Cornish cod that is anything but simple. The decibels are pretty high here so if you are in want of intimate conversation, pick a corner table or sit at the bar.
R. H.
Last time I was here, I a few friends and family sat at the chef's table, watching our food being prepared beside us, served directly by the chefs and then eating the wonderful food.
At that time we visited, we did not know it had been given a Michelin star but even so we were not surprised. Reasonably priced for the star and location. A must try!
A. d. K.
I’m all up for trying something new, but I’m a chips and ketchup girl! The steak and salad were delish, chips good too, but would have been absolutely amazing with a tad bit more salt and some ketchup!
The bread and generous serving of butter was such a great way to start the meal!
The burrata starter was fresh, tasty and absolutely delicious with the hint of basil. Basil seemed to be the flavour of the day as it definitely was my favourite sorbet of the evening!
S. K.
I struggled to decide between 3 and 4 stars for this review and here’s why.
Good points:
- Lovely ambiance and lively atmosphere for a Friday night.
- Excellent team who were very exceptionally friendly, helpful and patient with us, particularly as we initially took ages to get ready to order.
- the cocktails are very interesting in the bar upstairs.
- the grilled octopus starter was one of the best I’ve had - meaty, tasty and cooked to perfection.
Sadly though, the main course really let the whole experience down for me. Sirloin steak, the quality of the meat didn’t feel on par with steaks I’ve had in other places. While it looked amazing, the texture on the inside, though clearly cooked rare, was very rubbery, not tender at all, chewy and not very pleasant to eat. I have to acknowledge that they are not a specialist steak restaurant so next time I will try something else from the menu. The chips, for me, tasted like they had been reheated, and not in a nice ‘triple cooked’ way. More like chips I would have had in my school canteen. We also waited a very long time for both the starter and the main but during this period the waiting staff remained attentive and continued to top up our drinks.
Really disappointed to have to write this as the rest of the experience was on point or better, and because of that I will give these guys another go (it was a busy night and sometimes you just get one bad experience).
T. D.
Food is alright here. Service is slow and not attentive.
We had a tasting menu: everything is well-cooked but some of the dishes are salty. Not to my expectation.
S. M.
Food was outstanding, we had the set lunch menu. Scallops were cooked to perfection and the lamb was succulent. service could have been better, but was still very good. To be fair there were a lot of us and not the quietest.
B. V.
This has been my best culinary experience in London. Incredible food and service, special mention to Andrea and Daniele who looked after us. Sat at the chefs table and was just awesome to see the kitchen operate. Chef Paul runs a tight ship and everything came out tasting and looking exquisite.
G. C.
Always a pleasure to dine here either in the afternoon or evening.
Lunch time three course menu Monday to Thursday is good value for money considering the service and quality of the food.

Came for pre-theatre menu. Staff was so nice and welcoming. Very professional team! Great design and atmosphere. Food was brilliant! Worth the price (22 per person for 2 courses). Highly recommended!
C. M.
Fantastic meal! Wine selection was great. The service team worked together like a well oiled machine. All menu items were executed flawlessly. A must try!
C. T.
One of the best restaurant in London! Love the food and atmosphere! Staffs are too nice. Very good selection of food and wine. Wanted to go to this place before the michelin star when it had some children's book themed menu but did not have the time but still lovely place now with chic mood.
J.
Nice restaurant near Soho, London. Had the sampler menu, Everything dish is cooked and prepared beautifully. Excellent bread with smokey butter, Scallop Cerviche, Foie Gras were nice. Cod wasn't as sweet as freshes fish should taste, Lamb rump perfectly cooked just a little salty with the nicoise jus. Peanut butter icecream, ok only . Service is attentive and great. Overall good restaurant.
Z. W.
Weakest Michelin Star restaurant I’ve eaten at. Service was inconsistent, eg my table did not have bread. Food was also on the salty side and not well balanced. Portion allocation was also a bit strange. For dessert, the bowl of rice pudding was a meal in itself (see picture). Would expect more of a Michelin starred restaurant.
M. M. T.
A nice restaurant in Soho. The service was excellent. The food was extraordinary. We had three course from the lunch menu. The restaurant has an old fashioned appeal. I liked it. It felt classy. Thank you!
A. C.
We came to the Blind Pig through a video on facebook. We were not dissaponted. We had great drinks, food and service. Would really suggest to go here and try it. We can't wait to be back in London, to go again
A. S. I.
I went to cocktail bar named "The Blind Pig" - the upstairs adjunct to the "Social Eating House" downstairs. I've been there twice now and both times I've had a great time. The cocktails are all standard central London £10, but have quite a whimsical theme based on children's books we might all know. My favourite is the "dream jar" based on the same items from Roald Dahl's BFG. I tried a few others and they were all great. Cosy and intimate, great for a first date. The food was also delicious.

Festive Menu
Ballotine of Goosnargh duck leg, sweet hoisin glaze, green onion, pickled cranberry puree, pickled cucumber, 5 spice pancakes
25 day aged Aynhoe Park venison, cooked over charcoal, served with mixed leaf salad, duck fat chips, béarnaise or peppercorn sauce
Baked almond & preserved cherry tart, whipped clotted cream, Douglas fir & citrus sugar
Pooh’s Hunny Pot - Dark rum, Mead, cider brandy, honey, orange blossom, honeycomb, Piglet
A. Y.
The overall experience is very good. Every plate was creative and tasty and filling, so it felt worth the premium price. The service was also very attentive and thoughtful as it came to wine selection or food or even bread. I came with a celiac friend and they were able to make fresh gluten free bread at request. It's also not hard to get a reservation which to me is a plus.
C. S.
The Blind Pig is a speakeasy bar located just under the old opticians sign next to the Social Eating House entrance. It has the most fabulous customer service (thank you for my complimentary birthday cake!) and it’s a pleasure just to turn the pages of the menu, and that’s before you get to the inspired cocktail menu!
R. S.
I also struggled between 3 and 4 Stars: as a vegetarian- they get a 4 as they have a separate vegetarian menu. The mushroom starter is absolutely perfect! But then came the gnocchi... the deep fried gnocchi. In-and-of-itself deep fried is ok. But if your going to take a risk- the execution/flavours should be flawless. Sadly, this wasn’t.
M. R.
Absolutely delicious food. We had the set 3 course lunch, including a cocktail
G. M.
Didn’t eat here but did go upstairs to the Blind Pig for cocktails which were amazing; a bit expensive but something you don’t mind paying for great cocktails. Favourite part was the very pretty illustrated cocktail menu!
C. R.
A great cocktail bar in the heart of Soho!
We arrived at 1pm and it was nice and quiet, but you need to book ahead for peak hours.
The cocktail menu is currently inspired by children's books, including Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland. Amazing quality, and the staff are happy to offer recommendations.
IMO one of the best cocktail bars in London!
A. S.
It is hard for me to write this review given that it's a Michelin-starred establishment, and also the fact that I did not go full-blown tasting menu.
I walked into SEH not overly hungry, but really wanted to try their food. As a beer-person, I really thought their selection could have been a little more extensive (only 1 IPA on offer).
I ordered a lamb rump as a standalone dish for my meal - it was a decent portion, but the sauce it came with was a bit too salty and made the dish unremarkable. It was alright, but definitely not Michelin-level
Not really sure if my experience would have been better if I had ordered the tasting menu, but I would have to think twice before deciding whether to give SEH another try.
E. C.
The lunch special is a bargain! But beware when you see the a la carte it's tough not to go with that! As always, a fantastic wine pairing and in budget! We come back again and again!
M. K.
Food was delicious, both vegetarian and meats. The desserts were interesting and enjoyable. Service was great. The main problem was the level of noise, which was overwhelming.
B. F.
Amazing food (best 🐙 I had). Atmosphere perfectly balanced between high-end and pub-like. Very friendly staff
M. H.
It was an incredible experience! Excellent food, excellent service, and reasonable pricing... It contains everything. We had a great time, to be honest... This will undoubtedly not be the final time. Strongly advised!!
P. W.
Came here for the lunch set menu, not a bad value. The 5 a day drink is a clever idea of drink.
S. L. M.
Good and interesting vegetarian menu options available as well as a standard version. Staff attendant without being over solicitous. Would recommend this restaurant but would note that alcoholic beverages can push the overall cost of the meal up quite quickly. Great for celebrating.
D. E.
The upstairs bar has a unique drink menu that will challenge your taste buds and deliver an experience well worth the experiment. In the dinning room the menu is fantastic and the quality of the food was exceptional.
L. R.
Cool Michelin-starred place with an interesting set of dishes, average service and too much noise. Prices are OK. Except for wines. But that’s London, baby!
J. G.
This is by far my favourite spot in London. From the service, ambience and most importantly the food, it’s a five star experience. I have been able to take friends and family who are now in love with SEH. Every time I visit I can help myself but visit the Blind Pig bar which has knowledge and charismatic bartenders who know their stuff and love their craft. I can’t speak highly enough of this restaurant and can’t wait to experience all they have to offer
d. p.
A very nice restaurant worthy of its Michelin star. But personally I feel Blind Pig upstairs is better value as they serve the same food in a more relaxed atmosphere.
a. I.
Michelin star restaurant. With very Nice decoration. Serve Local English Fusions food. Have wide range of Wine
G. C.
Attentive service and each course was delicious and beautifully put together. Recommend making a reservation in advance.
D. H.
Went for lunch.
Great value for great food.
Staff were brilliant too.
J. H.
We had a wonderful family meal. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were fantastic
T. E.
Great Food, excellent service. The mushroom salad (first) is very unique with distinct flavours. The monkfish (also first) is brilliant- savory, deep and beautiful.
H. D.
Perfect. Excellent meals, great wine selection and impeccable service.
Enjoyed the vegetarian menu, went with my dad, we both loved our dinner.
A. V.
Lovey atmosphere and decor. Food was flawless. I thought the staff was friendly but a tiny bit slow. I would definitely return.
S. M.
Amazing starters with lots of drama in the presentation. Mains were not as impressive and overpriced. Wine list was very expensive with just a few reasonably priced bottles hidden away at the bottom of the page
A. T.
Don’t trust the words people say about the place. There are no words to describe how good they are 🔥 If you know the saying the success is in the details - that’s a proper example for this place! Definitely one of the best. Book in advance. Otherwise no chance to get in.
e. b.
Perfect from beginning to end - attentive service and delicious food, with possibly the best pea soup I've ever tasted. The peanut butter parfait was spectacular. It's not cheap but worth every penny.
G. H.
My favourite restaurant in London. So tasty. Great staff. Great drinks. All epic.
L. P.
Random lunch stop off. Lunch menu. Perfect food. Lovely atmosphere.
J. O.
Good food. No music. Place where u can talk casually. One star michelin. Servers are explaining the food. Good presentation. 5min wait for table even though we reserved. They had a waiting table upstairs so we waited there!!
A. W.
Fantastic cocktails, service and I particularly love the menus with their unique touch. Cosy and comfortable location away from the hustle and bustle of Soho.
M. T.
Friendly service but the cocktails were underwhelming, especially given the £11ish price of them. Didn't eat at the restaurant downstairs so can't comment on the food.
A. B.
Excellent food and service. The staff were friendly. The steak was a amazingly delicious although a bit too rare for medium rare. The dessert was the perfect summer dessert.
A. M.
Unassuming low key decor puts you at ease and the food blows you away. So much flavour and invention. Staff are some of the best working in London at the moment ensuring a very smooth and enjoyable dining experience. I love this place so much.
r. g.
The most amazing cocktails. Not cheap but worth every penny. Lovely bar aswell
G. O.
It's a shame the service is so poor here because the food is delicious. Wait time between dishes was horrible but overall, from the hostess to the manager, no one genuinely seems to care if you are there or not. Food was fantastic, atmosphere is really cool and the prices are just inline
A. H.
When I order martini, I expect martini glass, not a small red wine glass with old sticky drops on it.
House smoked salmon was not really smoked, just brined, which is very easy to do it at home.
Other things were ok, standard central London restaurant.
M. E.
Very busy and worth booking. The staff are fabulous and the food well cooked and presented
L. E.
The food is good, however the portion sizes are really small
A.
The food was absolutely delightful, as was the service, just shy of perfect, I say this at this level and price point everything should be faultless. However no complaints, just a very happy couple of foodies.
I. M.
"Delicious great quality food, excellent service in a lovely setting and reasonably priced."
L. N.
The staff made you feel welcome the moment you stepped through the door. The food was amazing - from starters to dessert, they were all fantastic. The atmosphere and ambience was lovely, it felt special without being too formal. The service was impeccable, and the staff were happy to answer any questions we had. Would recommend the Social Eating House for a special occasion, or for a nice relaxed meal - we really enjoyed it, thank you! 🙂
H. D.
I never usually write reviews, but Social Eating House was unbelievably good and made my wife's birthday very special! After some initial confusion at their end over the booking, they more than made up for it with exceptional service and what was quite simply the best food I've ever eaten. We were sat at the Chef's Counter which was an amazing experience in itself. Special thanks go to Frankie, Hannah and Simone. We'll definitely be back!
B. v. O.
Attentive and friendly staff that knows their menu well, a nice and intimate atmosphere in the restaurant. The 50 Day dry aged ribeye steak was phenomenal. Highly recommend this place.
K. B.
I was a little disappointedby the ingenuity of the new menu, one of the drinks we had was great, the other mediocre. Great bar but was a bit underwhelmed.
L. W.
Excellent food with a refreshing and creative menu
Service was very good. The staff (Yanis/Janis?) was highly professional
M. G.
Service was barely ok. Super loud in there. But the food was so good that it has to be a 5 star review.
D. W.
The pre-theatre menu is stunningly good value, so it's no wonder the place is packed and boisterous. Make sure you come!
k. g.
my favourite michelin chain. always nice food
J. S.
Outstanding service, they go out of the way to take care of you here. Food was delicious.
R. C.
Excellent food and some interesting drinks - and not too pricy.
M. W.
Food was truly excellent, but service was somewhat lacking. Probably 4.5 out of 5.
H. G. (.
Overall a great experience to celebrate our anniversary, they even left us a handwritten card and a cake to take home. We went for the lunch set menu so great value for money. The food was lovely and tasty though the steak was not tender enough. Great vegeterian options for me, yummy twist on mac & cheese and amazing mushroom salad!
The atmosphere and service are great, only problem is it gets quite noisy and loud when full, acoustics is not so great...
H. G.
What a classy restaurant. Writing this as soon as I got back home.
Food, decor, service and atmosphere exceptional. It is beyond classy and made my birthday so special with many little touches. As a non drinker, the cocktails served to me were fun, whimsical and very tasty.
They accomodated me and my guests so graciously and with so much class. One of the best meals I have ever had. Superb.
A. C.
Absolutely amazing experience. We had the opportunity to enjoy the chef's counter and was excellent overall. Good food, good service and vibrant atmosphere. A must go place in London.
J. Z.
Had my birthday dinner here last summer. Nice food!
A. P.
Food amazing, service really unhappy, they delay our reservation of over 20mins and the waiters were particularly slow too
P.
Nice bar (didn't try the food downstairs). Bartenders are attentive and good company, good range of seating options. Full range of drinks on offer, good selection.
R. B.
Excellent table service; made us feel very much at ease. Went for the prix fixe menu with one or two additions. The food was ok with nothing exceptional to note. However, it did arrive very quickly. The décor felt a little dated/70s steakhouse-themed with all wood panelling and dim lighting. With drinks and a couple of additions our bill came to £80, but the fixed 2 course menu currently goes for £22pp making it fabulously value for money! Finally, we really appreciated their extra touch with their thoughtful signed card and financier commemorating our anniversary.
C. W.
Nice atmosphere and great staff. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive. The food was definitely not as good as expected though. We both had the steak from the set lunch menu and it was quite tough and not great at all. The starter was nice but extremely small and the desert was just ok. Not Michelin star quality, but then maybe the lunch menu isn't supposed to be?
R.
Food flavours & mixes work really well here. The 10pm curfew is a pain had to rush the delicious carrot cake puddong
V. V.
Truly, madly, deeply in love with this place and so far all of the restaurants in Jason Atherton's group. This place proves that British food can be fun, creative, flavorful and a power player in cuisines of the world. Had all local and it was all good! I especially enjoyed my tequila cocktail (forgot the name) which had a bit of smokiness to it like it was on the grill! Never tried Hake and I loved it! I was so full and kept eating because I didn't want it to end! Kudos to having a full vegetarian menu.
We didn't have a great table and we were the last seating of the night so it was a bit rushed but nothing can top the quality and perfection of that food. I wanted to take my sister somewhere nice and quite frankly, I was the one that was impressed. I've never been to such a fresh and young Michelin rated establishment. Usually, it's stuffy but the vibe here is awesome and the people that work there really seem to like their job which makes all the difference in the world! I would recommend this place to anyone that's looking for a lounge scene but needs a great meal.
J. G.
Fantastic! Try the sea bass, it's amazing. Great atmosphere and really nice staff!
T. N.
Some of the food exceptional. Some of the desserts a bit too sweet on sweet. To my view, set tasting menu is a bit on the high side, price-wise. The biggest problem was a confusing menu structure and not clear what was what, in terms of price of wine, if accompanying, or even full menu. Even the waiter was confused. Overall though I do like the place, and the concept.
O. L.
Great just great from top to bottom ,polite staff , nice interior , whisky taste everywhere the same anyway ;)
L. L.
We were in the up stairs bar. Good atmosphere. Nice dark decor but with lame pictures in the wall. Comfortable.
Good and knowledgeable staff.
It got very busy after 1800. Best to book for a table.
Excellent hummus with smoke aubergine and tomatoes.
Cocktails were nice serve in different types of glasses. From £10.50.
Choice of dessert a bit small.
f. s.
great food and ambience. will try the chefs counter next time.
M. M.
Perfect dinner in the heart of London
J. C.
Went for drinks. Cool place with a range of nice cocktails. Standard London cocktail prices
J. P.
Was a great experience food and ambiance were definitely best for a decadent lunch
L. D. J.
Really good place.... I got Veggie and it was SOOOO good. I recommend it.
A. S.
While the appetizers and the desserts were inventive and playful with flavours, the main courses were outstanding. I think Social Eating House may have spoilt Mac & Cheese as a dish for me, forever. Very moreish and delicately flavored. Outstanding. Would recommend without hesitation.
I. D.
Food was fabulous, as the staff serving our table!
We went there with a couple of friends and had a great time!
Would definitely recommend.
J. N.
Polite staff that showed us around the place and exceptionally tasty food. I will come again 😋
F. H.
Very smart and high quality French/English cuisine. Good service and a non-stuffy atmosphere. We enjoyed a delicious, diverse and well presented set menu.
j. p.
Came here just after lunch time for a quick bite and a coffee on a Sunday, while waiting for Apple to fix my phone.
The service was lovely and the food was a great portion and well priced. I came back for a coffee and had the pleasure of reading my book for an hour or so without feeling as if I was intrusive.
The decor is lovely and music not too loud. Was approximately 50% capacity inside with patrons but never too loud.
S. E.
I was here for drinks recently at the bar upstairs. Really good cocktails in a fun atmosphere. I definitely recommend booking, particularly if you're going on a Friday or Saturday or more than just two people. The service is friendly, if a little chaotic at times — but it's a busy place, so to be expected on occasion.
K. H.
We really enjoyed our evening. The food was fabulous BUT little things let it down. Our sides came 10 minutes after the mains. Dessert arrived a long time after coffee (which was cold). The final disappointment was a single glass of Prosecco being charged as a bottle. We had a lovely evening but for the prices we were paying we didn’t expect these rookie mistakes.
L. L.
Staff was very friendly and great with recommendations on what to order. The mushroom starter dish was fabulous, but take a moment before you dig in because it's piping hot. Ordered the ribeye for my main and it was beautifully prepared and flavoured. The place was packed when I went on a weekday night and one has to speak a little louder than usual in order to have a conversation with your friends.
S. H.
Wonderful afternoon our anniversary. Romeo was amazing - Thank you for being so attentive. We will definitely be back!
S. Y.
Great vibe and great food although a bit overpriced (£60 for two courses and a drink). Bar upstairs is fabulous to chill and meet friends!
P. P.
Staff are really welcoming and knowledgeable, the menus are fantastic, set menu, a la carte and tasting all backed up by great drinks.
The food is great quality and it's just a great overall experience.
P. O.
Good but nothing to shout about. Wine came after first course was served. Triple Cooked chips were average, oil either too hot or needed changing our local gastro pub does much better.
J. R.
Social Eating House is fantastic. The atmosphere feels like you are in a smart establishment but relaxed and comfortable. The service is quick and attentive without being over the top. The food is great, whether you go off the main menu or take the ridiculously good value lunch menu you won't be disappointed. Serving sizes are perfect and I've never left without feeling full and satisfied. Definitely worth a visit.
A. P.
Booked it for our anniversary and had a lovely time by the window. The menu was creative and sent us back to childhood. Service was good and staff were stylish and prompt to bring us new cocktails. We got a lovely pastry to celebrate. Recommended!
M.
The food at Social Eating House is well cooked. Dishes incorporate an abundance of British ingredients with well-thought-out and uncomplicated flavours. The coconut crème brûlée at the end of my lunch was particularly enjoyable.
The place is tastefully designed - the moody lighting offering a relaxed atmosphere. The staff was friendly and the service was mostly slick. The prices were reasonable for the quality of food that appeared.
f.
Was not overly impressed. Had the sampler menu.
Did not find anything special about the food. For the price point, there are many better restaurants around that enclave.
Service was really lacking and staff was rather rude.
The place itself has a nice decor.
E. B.
We had the lunch menu - amazing value. I was in a group of four, and we loved everything about the meal and the service. They were incredibly accommodating, professional and helpful, the food was wonderful, and the wine was excellent for the very affordable price. The ambience was relaxed and fun, I loved our tucked-away table at the back of the restaurant!

Blind Pig review
Was so happy to be able to get in here on a Saturday night without a reservation. The security on the door was very welcoming.
The maître d was very attentive to our needs and after a short period standing found us a lovely table. The staff were very prompt taking our drinks orders despite it being very busy.
The cocktails had a good amount of alcohol, but subjectively I found many of the flavor combinations not entirely to my liking. Obviously, your mileage may vary, but for me many of the cocntails weren't for me.
I would like to return to try the restaurant downstairs. The food looked amazing
T. G.
Great table service, good cocktails.
The lighting was too low though - had to use the torch on my phone to read the menu.
I'd say this is somewhere to bring someone rather than somewhere to meet people.
The cocktails are quite creative and well executed but not the best I've had in similarly priced bars such as The Alchemist. This place is more private though, so if you like the sophisticated / fun vibe at the Alchemist but want somewhere quieter with service that makes you feel like a VIP, it's a good shout.
H. N.
A great place not just for cocktails but for food! Some dishes here are delectable and are much more than just "bar snacks". The 60 day rib-eye is a signature dish - amazingly flavorsome beef that is (dry) aged to perfection! Its a shame chef removed the fried chicken on a stick but the yummy potted stuff is still on the menu. Friendly & efficient service tops off a superb dining experience!
r. l.
I think this place can make an upgrade and go from good to great
J. C.
The chef's experience was absolutely fantastic... Especially the egg & chips
B. E.
Great cocktails and great food - staff are extremely cordial and knowledgeable, and they don't mind giving recommendations based on experience or taste. Don't leave here without having tried their desserts - they'll blow you away, not only with the taste, but especially with the carefully and thoughtfully crafted presentation. Highly recommended.
G. J.
Exceptional service from start to finish. Booking staff were friendly, able to assist with minimum fuss when we needed to adjust the booking. They suggested sitting at the downstairs bar in the kitchen. What a great spot. You sit right beside the kitchen if you like that kind of thing, and can watch the action.
The waiting staff we had were attentive and able to offer recommendations.
Food was amazing. I don't know much about food, but friends thought it probably the best meal they've had in London (they have eaten in a lot of places). Everything is well presented, tastes great, and is really interesting - it's definitely somwhere you'll be talking about the food as much as the surroundings. You'll end up needing to share everything...
Kitchen staff and head chef were engaging and interactive enough to add something special to the experience, while obviously concentrating on their roles. A really nice element of the restaurant.
100% would recommend, and I moan about everything...
T. L. B.
Place is ok does the job, everything was satisfactory nothing was wrong had a good atmosphere but wasn't wow for me personally. Great location and convenient if you're in the area. I do however recommend the bar upstairs!
H. B.
What a beautiful dinner! Friendly staff, delicious food and cocktails. The jars are a great starter if you choose to skip the real starter/entree - the mains I had the macaroni cheese with added truffle, which while is a rich dish was amazing! then dessert, the brown sugar and milk tart was perfect too! If you can book at the chefs table downstairs as it's more fun and awesome!
S. D. S.
Soooo good! Lovely place to get a well cooked breakfast which is full of flavour.
Ordered the American breakfast which came with 3 waffles, bacon, sausage, eggs and potato.
Nice fluffy pancakes and the sausage was great too. Would have preferred streaky bacon to go with the pancakes.
A. M.
Great food and lovely atmosphere. Staff were brilliant. I started off with he foie gras and my partner had the scallops. Foie gras was amazing scallops were unusual.
We share the beef which could have fed 4 people. The beef was well cooked the macaroni cheese was amazing. Really enjoyed, but went into a food coma afterwards.
D. N. E.
Came here for my wife’s 30th birthday whilst we were holidaying in Europe and had a few days in London.
Great service from the staff who were quite attentive.
Our entree and mains were sublime. I had the steak, my wife the shake and they were amazing.
Only thing I felt let them down was the dessert which I felt they were trying to hard and the flavours of the chocolate with the orange did not marry well and the drinks as well were a little underwhelming.
But I would be back for sure.
P. C.
Undeserving of the star. Food was average at best. We ordered both from the set lunch menu and the a la carte menu - we did not see much creativity with the dishes to understand how this deserved 1 michelin star. The triple cooked duck fat fries were leathery and inedible, and the lemonade parfait was much too sour with no balance. Very poor value.
J. M.
This is a great Jason Atherton owned restaurant. You need to book but they always keep a couple of seats for 'walk-ins' in the window or at the bar. The menu is excellent for meat eaters and veggies, the food is sublime. They have a great wine list and the sommelier really knows his trade; his selection of wines by the glass is wonderful. All staff are delightful. Highly recommended.
R. P.
Its ok, certainly not great and there are far better 1 star experiences elsewhere in the capital !! To be honest I really struggle to agree with the 1 Michelin star status of social eating house. Most of the dishes were of 2 AA rosette standards, but were far from the level I would have expected from Michelin. Service and welcome was a bit slap dash and un-coordinated and the food was over seasoned to the point of in edible. Carrots on one dish were so salty that I had to leave them and noticed 2 other guests sat near to me do exactly the same! Despite telling our server, nothing was done to rectify this.
Tables are crammed in to this Soho eateries much like a budget airline flight and it all kind of feels a bit like a conveyor belt production line. The dishes lacked originality and the staff were all on auto pilot( no personality), except one of our servers who was actually very good and full of passion (Shame for them he was leaving to join pied de Terre).
Over all it was unmemorable and lacked the excitement and passion of a truly great restaurant.
Also be sure to phone and make your reservation or you will possible be seated on high uncomfortable stools in the window or bar!
E. F.
We went here on a Saturday evening and had a wonderful meal and experience. Started with pre-dinner cocktails at the table which were both beautifully served and perfect to sip whilst we perused the menu. We went for the cep mushroom starter and scallops with artichoke, which were both amazing. The flavours were perfectly balanced and ingredients fresh. Our wine as recommended by the sommelier was perfect to accompany them. The mains were equally as delicious and fish was perfectly cooked, being ever so slightly under cooked in the middle and crispy on the top, just right for full flavour!
Our mistake was to forget to order sides for with our mains but the staff were so helpful and managed to get them through the kitchen in extra quick time to be served with our main.
The staff and service were fantastic, and if anything were slightly too attentive in that we felt we could have had slightly longer to peruse the menu and relax between courses.
My only negative of this place would be that the restaurant was so incredibly warm! A more comfortable temperature would have nice but overall we had a great evening and will definitely return.
S. M.
Great place! Very friendly stuff, unique decor and of course amazing food! We had the octopus, raw mushroom salad and scallop for starters; and lamb, cod and venison for mains. Everything was exceptional. Michelin star well deserved.
A. F.
Had the Devan Crab starter and Venison main. Amazing food and equally good service. Go
R. A.
This place is amazing. Incredibly cool interior without being anything like white tablecloth fancy.
We only came here because we were cancelled from the chefs other restaurant last minute (Pollen St) and offered a table here instead. As a result when we arrived they knew who we were and offered the 4 of us free champagne, very nice touch and with no reference to the cancelled booking.
The food is unreal, you would eat everything on the menu happily and the service was also very good. Sadly too full by desert but they didn't look terrible either.
One confusing thing is that Google shows this as 2x ££. It's a Michelin starred restaurant, I can assure you it's anything but ££...think ££££. But it's worth it.
H.
Beef Tartare was a little salty for my liking but the pork main was divine and service was excellent.
L. S.
Love the food, also staff are very friendly! 🙂
F. K.
We went in November 2017 and had lunch. The food was very good. We didn't take any wine. As we took a special pre Christmas offer it was very good value. The acoustic of the restaurant was not very good and it was difficult to hear because there were quite a lot of people even at 14.30. Service was good.
K. M.
If you’re looking for somewhere special, truly special, you should take friends and family. It is one of the most unpretentious yet exquisite restaurants I’ve been to in some time. I had a roasted Cornish brill, sweet millet with sour cream, chives and black curry while mum had the cod à la Polonaise with cauliflower, asparagus and Jersey Royals… proper buttery, fresh Jersey Royals. The flavours were divine, the food fresh and importantly the staff were thoughtful but not overbearing. Without a doubt a place to treat yourself to if you’re visiting or living in London, especially with someone special.
M. K.
Fantastic food (and a great value set menu) but odd service. Our waiter yawned throughout taking our orders, seemed fine with interrupting the conversation at the table, and seemed extremely laid-back to the point of indifference. Perhaps they all took Jay Rayner's review (to loosen up) a bit to heart.
R.
Stopped by on Friday for lunch and opted for their £65 chef sampler menu. This was the better choice over the £26 beef rump option they had. The portions were just the right amount and each uniquely delicious! Keep in mind that the £65 lunch took about 2.5hrs, but that was at my leisurely pace. I'm sure they can speed it up, if you asked them to.
L. A.
I had the Chef's Counter tasting menu with wine pairings. Amazing food, knowledgeable staff who knew all about the food and the wines being served with them. Excellent service and, the cherry on the cake, having a chat with the chef too. I will come back to the Chef's Counter again; watching the team work to put together all the orders is like watching a living work of art.
D. F.
This cool almost secret bar at the social eating house is nice and moody with its dimmed down lights. And it has equally mysterious cocktails to match. I really liked this place. Some fun cocktails and great service from staff who are very accommodating.
G. J.
Great place to eat.
Food a little pricey but delicious.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Wine menu extensive
Easy to find from the station.
Reservation is required as the restaurant gets very busy.
Highly recommended. Will go back once I have saved some money for a really good meal.
K. S.
Excellent restaurant - food to die for.
Big shout out to George upstairs at the Blind Pig - made to feel so welcome. He is a fabulous man. Cocktails were scrumptious too!
H. C.
Delicious modern British restaurant.
I ordered the foie gras, Venison and Chocolate moulage, all very tasty and well presented.
Very delicious meal and friendly service.
Good selection of wines available too.
Nicely decorated inside as well with a bar upstairs as well which was quite busy but there was a good selection of cocktails available.
A. C.
So close to being great. The food took too long to come out and the wine was a little too expensive (average was 50/60 a bottle). This meant that we didn't want to get multiple bottles and the wine therefore wasn't cold when the main finally came. However, the food was excellent (although the vegan option was a little expensive for what it was) and the cocktails upstairs were superb.
T. N.
This was my second visit to The Bling Pig. We came on a Saturday night without a booking and managed to get a seat. The cocktail menu has changed since I last came (now volume ii) Some of the core drinks are the same but they've added some new fresh ones. I absolutely love the book theme, so creative.
What I don't like is that it gets so hot, like unbelievably hot (it wasn't that crowded like I've seen it before) also I'm never a fan of adding 12.5% service charge
M. P.
Had the tasting menu with premium wine pairing. It was outstanding! Every course was spectacular. I particularly liked the fois gras and the peanut butter dessert. My girlfriend's favourites we the scallops and the cod. The wines were amazing. Service very good.
Why not five stars? It was just really, really loud. The server apologised, there was one big table making all the noise. On a different night, probably full marks.

Didn't know about this gem of eatery. From the outside it's only another building but the inside is an amazing restaurant / cocktail bar. The First floor (where I met friends for a pre birthday bash, seems to be more selective, invitations only, checked names by doorman. Also great space for drinks and nibble food. Only downside was to get short of a penny, and found the toilets are below stairs, at the basement level, by the kitchen. How Downtown Abbey

It was absolutely amazing, even the bread and butter was spectacular :D

I absolutely loved this restaurant. The food & service was amazing. I wish I could remember the servers name (male), as he was lovely and looked after us very well. I made a reservation for my Husbands 40th Birthday, and he loved it there. They add really nice touches by giving you a Birthday card and a special dessert in a classy little black box to go - which was delicious. We had the Beef Tartar starter which is probably an acquired taste, I liked it, but my husband wasn't thrilled. We both had the Salt Marsh Lamb which was GREAT, we both loved it! & for Dessert I had the Peanut Butter dessert which was 10/10 and my husband had the Crème brulee one which he thought was 10/10 - We both liked our own better than the other. I thought the price matched the food - Highly recommend this restaurant.

I've been lucky enough to go to the Social Eating House twice in the last few weeks. Both times I have enjoyed the tasting menu and on one of the occasions with the paired fine wines. It really is a fantastic offering. Right in the middle of Soho, they are managing to deliver Michelin-starred/fine dining without the white table cloths in a relaxed brasserie/bar atmosphere. In my opinion, they are pulling it off. Service has been spot on both times, formal but relaxed and the food is both creative and delicious. Although pricey, the wine list is excellent with a good list of burgundy reds and whites alongside some Spanish, Italian and new world alternatives. The sommelier was friendly and helpful on both occasions. Will be looking forward to my next visit.
I'd rate this as easily the best of all of Jason Atherton's restaurants i've been to.
Minor criticism: Uncomfortable chairs...

5 stars for food, 2 stars for service, 2 stars for temperature. We had a large group in the back and it was stifling on a night that was rather cool outside. The excellent and inspired food could not make up for abysmal service. We asked 4 times for a bottle of water to be placed on the table. It was constantly left over on a sideboard nearby even though we all kept running out. Finally, one of our group started getting up and retrieving our water and bottles of wine every time they set them to the side. The restaurant could have made a LOT more money just by pouring what we had ordered and allowing us to order more drinks.

Really good food and the drinks were absolutely amazing. Although have to say the waiter George absolutely made our night. Best place if you want to chill out with your friends (accompanied by the drinks of course)
M. S.
Unique food and very reasonable prices. The "jars" may seem a bit peculiar, but definitely check them out - some of the most interesting and intense tastes of the night were there.
I had the mac & cheese, which, I'll admit, wasn't terribly adventurous, but it was simply made yet very complex in taste.
The bar upstairs is a chilled-out lovely place to sit and while away the night.
I'll definitely revisit, and will update my review as I go!

Nice restaurant with good food. Nice presentation of the food and very good wine tasting menu with experienced presentations of the wine, location and why it was chosen to go with the courses. Expected a somewhat more formal restaurant given the Michelin star, however it is very casual.

Regarding The Blind Pig bar upstairs: Drinks flawless, amazing selection, well mixed and the themes are downright adorable (recommend the butterbeer cocktail). Definitely make an effort to reserve, as we were caught out by this. However, I found the service a little slow and the concierge was downright rude to us as we were leaving, being entirely unapologetic that there were no other free tables, and we opted not to pay the service charge for that reason. I still fully recommend the place, but book in advance and be bold enough not to pay the charge if things aren't perfect!
M. D.
Great food, if just a /little/ heavy on the salt. Can't fault the starters though (and we had one of each). Steak was cooked to perfection.
Cracking selection of beers and cocktails to boot.
F. B.
We were given a seriously bad table. It was in the middle of a walkway and not really in the main dining area which was a shame as we had booked over a month before and was for a special occasion. We made our feelings clear and were moved after they had a cancellation about 45 mins in. Good food and cocktails. Recommend the truffle egg.
p. c.
Drinks very nice and varied. They were able to accommodate my change of Campari in my Negroni, gravy covered chips were very impressive as a snack.
It was busy upstairs in the Speakeasy (Blind Pig) but we could hear ourselves speak and the music was on point adding to the atmosphere
S. J.
We went at around 8pm on a Saturday. Tried to book a table the previous Tuesday but they were all booked but half are kept for walk in guests. We waited about an hour to get in and when we were eventually in we were sat at the bar which for 4 of us made it very difficult to have any kind of conversation. If you book you get a booth and it looks much more comfortable. Drinks were very good! Would recommend but definitely book unless there's just two of you and you don't mind the wait.

This was my second visit, the first being good but not excellent. This time I was very impressed. All three dishes I had off the pre theatre menu were excellent and represented fairly good value. I would go again.

Amazing food in the restaurant and great cocktails upstairs in The Blind Pig. Not often I eat a two course meal and I'm blown away by every mouthful. You pay a premium for the quality but I feel this is one place that is worth it.
Always great service too, but you need to book ahead.

We accidentally stumbled into this place on the very last night of our honeymoon. After weeks of wonderful dining all over Europe, nothing even comes close to Social Eating Club. The food was exceptional - my venison was juicy, tender and paired perfectly with its sides, which were sized to be filling and satisfying. We sat astonished between every bite. It probably got annoying, listening to us exclaim over and over. But that's not even the best part of the night - no, it was the service we received from our waitress and the bartender (nicest guy- from Italy, name started with a G but he got us too delightfully tipsy for me to remember it) that sparked this review. They were the best part of the evening by far. A restaurant can serve incredible food but be tainted by bad service - at Social Eating Club, the perfect food was made heavenly by the staff. It never had a better evening in a restaurant and I fervently hope we visit London again, just do we can come back there!
H. G.
Great drinks with an amazing vibe. Been here a few times now and I have never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and always make you feel welcomed. Be sure to Book a table as they can get busy and the last thing you want is to be asked to give your seat up to someone that has booked the table.

We went to the Social Eating House for my Mother-in-Law's birthday. We had a drink the The Blind Pig (the bar attached) before the meal - there was a little confusion as the waitress in the bar came to collect our drinks and informed us our restaurant in the table was ready however when we got down there it was not and they had no idea why we had been told to come down. This was not the best start. We did not want to head back upstairs as it was busy and we had lost our spot so just loitered around the restaurant. Once our table was ready the experience improved greatly - the service was attentive and knowledgeable with the waiting explaining dishes and helping us to pick wine. The food was very nice - I went for mushrooms on toast to start and mac and cheese main - both classics but done with a modern and tasty twist.
the environment was very buzzy - we went on a Saturday night so it was full and if anything a little loud - it was difficult to have conversations across the table with shouting.
It was an enjoyable meal and enjoyable experience once seated but I am not sure I will be rushing back for the price.
V. P.
A great place to be seen in, frequent by media types and other cool people. The food is really good. I had the scallop, lamb and a chocolate dish and they were all quality dishes. The lamb was soft and tender, scallops dressed in a light fish sauce which was different but worked, and the desert rich and well presented. Nice simple décor and friendly service.
D. B.
One of the best meals I've had in a while! The food was incredible and the service was impeccable. As other reviews have mentioned, the room was a little noisy - but it didn't put me off. I highly suggest the duck rillette and hummus jars and the venison loin and sea bass mains.
C. G.
I couldn't fault anything about this restaurant. Ok it can be reasonably pricy, but for the quality of service and the creativeness of the dishes it's worth paying.
I would absolutely recommend for a special occasion or as a treat, the food is lovely and the staff are professional yet friendly.
5 stars.
J. V.
An amazing venue. The waiters are attentive, friendly and know their stuff. The food is excellent as well as the cocktails.
I found the main part of the restaurant a bit too loud so we moved to a quieter place.
I had the 65 degree slow cooked pouched egg for starter along with chorizo. There was a ragu sauce underneath, with cubed potatoes. The ribeye steak was, at £35, a lot of money but perhaps one of the best I have had for a while. The chunky chips were uniformly sized, and they brought a large salad too. The peppercorn sauce was plentiful and delicious.
I had the chocolate mouleux for dessert which came with passionfruit sorbet and sauce - the chocolate oozed out, absolutely delicious. My dining partner had a peanut butter parfait which looked fantastic.
Overall excellent, certainly one to take somebody you want to impress (I now have to choose every restaurant we go to)

Visited the cocktail bar upstairs. Great selection of house cocktails but i went for the classics which were perfectly balanced. The atmosphere and team were great. Perfect date location.

Made the slight error of not booking this place so we had to wait outside while the bouncer - who was very friendly - checked that there were tables available. Once we got in we were told that we have the table till 10pm (over 2 hours), which seemed fair considering how busy it was.
The decor is very 'prohibition'; all darkwood furniture and candlelight, and staff with hipster moustaches and braces. It's got a very cool vibe, although I admit I'd prefer a LITTLE bit more light as the menus were hard to read!
Our waitress was very friendly and kept coming back to refill our water glasses and had a chat when prompted, but was never intrusive.
Now onto the main thing - the cocktails! Menus are designed to resemble a children's book and each themed cocktail is beautifully illustrated on the page. There are drinks inspired by all the children's classics such as Peter Rabbit, Harry Potter, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, etc. We opted for the BFG and Mr Tumnus first - the BFG was nice and definitely the bigger of the 2, but the Mr Tumnus was DELICIOUS. Honestly one of the tastiest drinks I've ever had. We then had The Winnie the Pooh cocktail, and the Augustus (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). They were both served in funky glasses - jar of honey anyone? - and both were again very tasty. Bonus points for the paper straws as well!
We would have stayed for another drink but the menus were taken away after our first order and we had to order the second from memory. The lady who took them (not the waitress) shrugged and informed us that they were short on menus, which seems a bit ridiculous. Either print more, or leave 1 menu per table as is the case in other establishments. This was the only real issue we had and it is a small one.
Prepare to part with your cash here, and beware the 12.5% service charge, but really it's worth it for the experience. Great for a date night or a girly catch up. Can't wait to return to try the rest!

So, first things first, there are 2 designs of dining chair used in the restaurant. One which has spinal support, and one that doesn't. I was on one without spinal support and every time I tried to sit back the pressure on my kidney's was unbearable. I had to ask the waiter to arrange a chair swap before the starter arrived as I wouldn't have made it through the entire meal on the other chair.
On to the important stuff.
First of all, the staff are superb, continually smiling and polite, being attentive without being intrusive. All of our questions regarding the menu were thoroughly answered and the sommelier was spot on with his recommendation.
The food was on the whole superb. Our pre-starter was a salted fish and n'duja 'jar' to share served with garlic rubbed toast. This was an eye wateringly salty but delightfully morish dish.
Followed by the smoked eel for my girlfriend and the fois gras for me. Both were superb flavour wise but mine was a little difficult to eat and my gf said there was one too many potatoes on the starter, but we are being super critical here.
Onto the mains, we both had the venison loin with sides of tender stem broccoli and carrot and swede mash. It was just fantastic. The dish had superb balance and the flavours were superb, nothing was lost, not even the wafer thin pear that acted as the base for the venison.
The Dolcetto D'alba was a great complement to both of our starters and really shone with the venison, and at only a 150% mark up on market price, wasn't too bad a price in a Michelin star restaurant.
One other negative, the venison main had a venison salami as one of the components, but as we couldn't see any salami, we assumed that there was another meaning to the word salami as our Italian is rusty at best. However, as we contemplated the dessert menu the lady on the next table received her venison main, and there, laid on top of the kale laid 4 slices of salami.
We decided against desert solely due to not fancying anything on the menu we asked for the bill and pointed out the fact or main was missing a component. The waiter was horrified, he went and spoke to a manager who came over, at which point we stressed that we were not complaining, merely pointing out the mistake. He then went off, further conversations were had between members of staff.
The manager then returned and stressed how mortified both he and the head chef were and offered to remove the pre-starters from the bill. We were very grateful and continued to stress that we thoroughly enjoyed the dish, and weren't complaining. But he inst, pointing out that that a Michelin star restaurant dish shouldn't be missing a component and that it wasn't acceptable.
We left full, satisfied, and thanks to a timely chair swap, still walking upright. I would want to give 4 and a half stars but it's not possible, our only real gripe was the missing salami, but the dish was still fabulous and the level of professionalism of the staff throughout the meal and when dealing with our observation could not be faulted.

Best cocktails in London, with pop culture themed drinks! The BFG cocktail is highly recommended.
R. S.
Great place wonderful food, but felt rushed to leave and disappointed we couldn't go back to bar upstairs as to busy after our meal! Especially after we were asked to leave our table and were paying customers it spoilt a relaxed evening and that's one reason we picked that venue is to finished the eve with a drink or to upstairs not to be asked to leave and have to go and find else where to have a drink! So take note it's only a small drinking establishment alot smaller than the pictures on line and very popular after your meal you will be very lucky to get a table or back on there for drinks if that is your plan there is usually a que at the door for the bar starting mid eveing.
Food is is first class and service too would definitely recommend and give a near 4*.

This review is for the ‘secret’ blind pig....good cocktails but a little bright and not as cosy as the Den....
J. L.
Gorgeous meal! We had the celeriac sharing jar, the fois gras and the scallop cerviche to start, followed by the venison and the hake. Everything was perfect. The standout stars were the fois gras and the venison... stunning! Definitely worthy of a Michelin 🌟. Excellent cocktails and beautiful service. Would definitely return. Social Eating House was the best experience of my recent trip to the UK.
N. H.
Great food, friendly service. My friend's rump steak was a bit tough and the milk tart a bit too sweet, but everything else was delicious. Would recommend the pork belly and pisco sour.
D. K.
REALLY good - definitely deserving of its Michelin status; these type of restaurants are not always 'value for money', but in this instance, i'd definitely say it is - innovative combinations of ingredients for a top-notch flavour and texture experience, good portions, superb service and excellent ambience.
Can't wait to visit again.

Lovely lovely food and pretty decent service.
G. C.
Hard to fault the food, service and overall experience here. The cheese assortment was really spot on as well. The food relied a bit too much on traditional fat carrying vessels for my taste, but if I could give it 4.5 stars, I would have.
M. M.
Amaizng cocktail menu. Great place for millennials. Lovely, cosy and a quirky drinks menu made up of all your favourite children’s books. Great selection of cocktails and spirits.
Has a restaurant downstairs as well as the bar and seating upstairs. All in all a very nice place and perfect for date night too!
K. J.
Enjoyed the Chef's Experience tasting menu, sitting at the two closest seats to the chef of the eight seats in the kitchen. What an absolutely incredible experience, from the pre-dinner champagne and caviar in The Blind Pig down to the extra takeaway desserts we were given in celebration of our recent engagement. The service, somm and food were incredible - the foie gras dish was my favourite of all - all on top of witnessing the perfectly orchestrated culinary experience in the kitchen. Thank you for an incredible experience, we will be back!
K. M.
The food is great but very British. The chef's counter is a great experience as you get the see the chef and his team in action. The pub upstairs has a great vibe and the bar food is impeccable
J. D.
A perfectly cosy and speakeasy bar hidden upstairs. Staff always very accommodating and try to find us a seat even though we have shown up without reservations. Delicious cocktails and great atmosphere!
B. P.
Incredible and efficient service. Very friendly staff on the door, inside and working the bar, all well dressed in matching uniform, but each with their own style, very smart. Wide range of quirky, fun cocktails. Perfect date night location!

Loud. But it's Soho, so I suppose that's ok.
On the night, our waiter was a little inexperienced, I guess they must start somewhere, and a more experienced waiter took over later in the sitting.
We went for taster menu, which was really quite a lot of food and at a decent price.
Highlights were the foie gras and the scallop cevice. Some really interesting dishes.
Michelin star food but without the Michelin star ambiance (for better or worse, depending on what you're after!)
E. S.
Informal restaurant. Amazing food but not "social" prices. Desserts are the best part of thr menu. Staff very attentive and kind. Don't book a table in the middle of the restaurant, ask for a one close to the walls, where the sofas are.
G. U.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere. Very unpretentious, yet perfect service and food and lively atmosphere. Great drinks, would recommend to go to bar before or after, do maker sure to make reservation
A. J.
Excellent food and service with a great wine list. Staff even arranged a table in the spotted pig bar at late notice which was a nice extra. Definitely recommend.

In a very vital London food sence, it is easy to forget about the good old classic. But this is not a restaurant you should miss.
The stew pork cheek is really tender, soft and melting in your mouth, a modern twist of the classic dish with fine skills. Good in the stronger dishes and sauce.
Best fine casual dining place in London to me.
P. J. S.
One of my favourite restaurant in London Soho. It is Michelin started which is only reflected in the quality of the food as the atmosphere is relaxed. At night, I also enjoy going to their speak easy bar on the first floor (called blind pig).
E. M.
Were here during our Anniversary trip to London- This was by far the best in the trip. Instead of going for the set menu - we ordered a la carte which was a good choice for us.
Service was very kind and attentive.
The only bad thing I could say is that the place is very loud- not so recommended for a romantic dinner, but definitely a good venue for a social gathering (as the name implies :) )
M. M. J.
One of my favourite places - ever! I always go upstairs to the Blind Pig. Sublime cocktails, de-lish nibbles and attentive staff. The music is super cool too. A bit like a private members club, except it's not.
K. G.
Lovely sumptuous decor, with heavy draped curtains at the door and leather banquette seating. The cocktails were more experimental than you'd expect for somewhere serving 'Modern British' food - think gin cocktails with teenie tiny little clothes pegs holding on the garnishes and a 'cereal milk' concoction. As a vegetarian, I only had the macaroni cheese to choose from, which was tasty but very rich and heavy on the sauce. I'd likely come back just for drinks.
M. A.
Great cocktails. I'm really digging the children's book themed menu. Atmosphere is nice, not too loud so you can still hold a decent conversation
F. R.
This is a must go to venue for any occasion.
The drinks are not cheap but this is a venue of character ,class and good service.
The staff are always polite and welcoming.
If you are lucky you may see the odd celebrity or two incognito. I'm not talking XL Factor or Get Me Out of Here either.
Enjoy

The Blind Pig (American slang for a speakeasy) is the upstairs bar accompanying the Social Eating House restaurant. You will be greeted by a dark room of leather booths and a long copper bar. A glance at the menu and you can tell the creators had fun with their concoctions; each cocktail has its own theme with names like Thermo Nuclear Daiquiri and Cereal killer. I sampled both of these and both are nice, the Cereal killer (which amongst other things contains coco pops infused milk, white chocolate and rum) stood out for me as I don't usually like creamy cocktails but this was very drinkable.
The staff are friendly, helpful and know their trade and like to talk about it. I had an interesting conversation and education about Chartreuse. The cocktails may be on the small side for those of you who like long drinks, but each one is unique in its style and has had thought and fun put in to them, and above all well worth drinking.
L. N.
Loved this place. Brilliant steak. Lovely atmosphere. Everything was faultless. Perfect for a special occasion.
A. D.
I visited Social Eating house with my parents and boyfriend, as my mum had been wanting to try it for a while. We had one of the early dinner set meals, and three a la carte meals. Two of the party shared the steak for two (approx £84). While most of the food was fine, as you would expect for this restaurant, the steak was very tough, full of gristle and lots of fat that had not been rendered down properly. Not what you would expect for a steak costing that much! We did mention this to our server when they checked on us towards the end of the meal, but they did not suggest anything to remediate the situation.
Our slightly disappointing evening was worsened when i got home and realised that we had been overcharged for food we had not ordered.
I have been following this up with the restaurant management, although it has been 10 days after our meal and we have yet to have the additional charge returned to us.
All in all, a standard meal - definitely nowhere near some of the best places i have eaten in London - with poor service. Given this, i think it is overpriced - you can find better in London!
T. D.
This place is GREAT. It's livelier than a speakeasy but not a ridiculously rammed bar... Perfect balance.
The drinks a top quality and the bar staff are really good at guiding people who don't know what they want. I've been back many times.
M. G.
Stumbled upon this Michelin restaurant in London by chance. The food was pretty good and the price was not absurd. It's a modern take on British food with maybe some French influence. I enjoyed it.
S. P.
The one thing that detracted from the food was the service. The waitress was rude and impatient to a our group of four. I felt unwelcome. It’s so unusual in London to have such bad service, I wish they reprimanded this sort of behavior among their staff.
A. K.
Great service, well-balanced cocktails, be sure you have reservations. Whimsical cocktails didn't really match the art or music in the place on a Saturday night, which was quite loud, but it was a good experience.
J. T.
I honestly did not know that food could taste so good. All I could do is close my eyes and chew. This was the best food I've ever had. It was at in both appearance and flavor. For dessert get the chocolate molleaux. Its worth the wait!
P. N. A.
Really good food. Good service. Good atmosphere. Would go again for sure.
L. R.
Kind of in between a 3 and a 4...Food excellent, decor and atmosphere excellent. Service not so good, wine list and service not so good, cocktails and desserts odd. A mixed bag. Very busy at times
D. W.
TL;DR - Food amazing, wine so-so, cocktails were meh, service was poor.
Myself and my partner went here for her birthday. I assume that for a restaurant with a michelin star, the service would be top notch. I was wrong. Even though we had an early booking (6:15) and the place was empty, we were seated in a terrible place. A light was also shining in my partners eyes and it was very warm. So we asked to move. We were told they would "see what they could do" (the place was empty!). They eventually sat us at the next table over, where I was bunched up against a pillar.
Started with a cocktail each and a jar between us while we decided what to have. We opted for the testing menu with accompanying wines. They were very accommodating when my partner asked if she could swap out the lamb and foie gras courses for something else.
However, before the jar or the cocktail was finished , the first wine arrived. As we hadn't finished our first course and I couldn't see it arriving before we finished it, I asked for it to be taken away until we got our first course. That was fine but when it came back, it was clear that it hadn't been chilled while it was away and was now warmer then it should have been. I didn't complain about that but perhaps I should have.
The next few food courses were amazing and the wine that accompanied them was ok. Stand out wine was a Portuguese white from the Douro. That was exceptional. However, once again the service flagged when, while my partner was at the bathroom, a course arrived. Usually, in top class restaurants, the dish would be kept to the side until the person returned. This happened twice over the course of the meal. One of my wine glasses was taken from the table with a mouthful still left in the glass. Not acceptable when you've paid £46 each for accompanying wines (and they are not exactly large glasses!).
Next problem occurred on the pre-dessert course, we had seen the couple beside us get the dessert wine. My partner asked could we do the same and pointed to the dessert wine on the menu. The sommelier arrived down with a dessert wine and poured us two glasses. It turned out that the were not part of the wine tasting and we were charged extra for these. Not great communication there as the couple beside us definitely got the wine on the menu and not the one we had. Still, the dessert wine that was poured was exceptional. I'd definitely have it again. Just a bit miffed that the communication broke down somewhere between the server and the sommelier.
We were then advised (at (8:30) that another group had booked to come in and they would need us to move to the bar upstairs once we had finished our dessert. To avoid us being rushed through our final course, I suggested we just move before the course arrived. While this is not a huge problem, I am not sure why the maître d had not informed us of this fact when we ordered a tasting menu. I think 2 hours is kind of quick for a normal evening out, let alone a tasting menu. I'm sure we could have originally sat somewhere where the group would not have been impacted.
We were given a rather large booth in the bar upstairs and also given some petit fours for being inconvenienced and we ordered another cocktail as the waitress upstairs kind of pressured us into ordering something (perhaps in my head but it felt that way). When I challenged the fact that we were not informed of the additional wine, the waiter went to find out what happened. However, there was no apology for a lack of clarity or any of the other service mistakes, something I would have expected from a michelin starred restaurant...
Total bill was £330 including service (which for some reason, I paid!?). It seems that other people who have been there have not had this experience so I would go back for a normal meal (as the food really was delicious). I wouldn't go for the tasting menu again though.
C.
I wanted to love this place but ultimately left feeling a little underwhelmed. The food is good quality, but I think for the price and reputation I was expecting more. None of the courses from the tasting menu blew me away.
M. P.
Put simply, this place deserves it's Michelin stars. Tasting menu, plus wine, costs £100 a head and they cater for your needs. We ask to replace the foie gras and replaced it with anything else, to which they they were very accommodating. Will be back...I hope!
l. t.
I love this place, much more welcoming than some of the London joints I have been to. The bar upstairs means it will perfectly cater for a tipple before or after your meal, and they have a wine expert who will gladly recommend and advise.
Options for meat lovers and fish fanatics are plentiful, but not so much for the little veggies amongst you - you may have to like or lump the lovely macaroni cheese.
Wine is lovely, as are the long g&t's. But you must book, or expect a big ole wait - I prefer the little booths to the tables. A really good addition to Soho. Perfect for birthday dos and late night martinis and soooo central.
Give it a wee go, prices are affordable, not too silly - phewww!

Dined at the chef's table, with the Chef's menu, to celebrate my engagement. It was an amazing experience, that felt a bit disorganised to begin with, but as soon as we sat at the chef's table, we were blown away and it made up for it. Great interactivity (shout out to Ryan, who answered my fiancés million questions). The food was amazing, innovative, and beautiful, as Ryan says "the 1st bite is with the eyes". Each dish came with a intricate and detailed explanation from the chef who prepared it. Well worth every penny, four hours just flew past. Will most definitely be back, thanks for a unforgettable experience.

Gimmicky cocktails and quite pricey. The butter beer isnt what I expected....would avoid
R. D.
Great ambiance, cool décor and the drinks, though a bit too complicated for my taste we reasonably prices (8-10£) and delicious. I'd definitely go back and next time I'll test out the food menu.
S.
Wonderful, creative children's storybook based menu in the upstairs bar, The Blind Pig.
Other than the relatively high cost of drinks, there's very few negatives one could pick with the bar.
K. H.
Great cocktails- service could have been more attentive. Took 10 mins to get the menu back and another 10 to get someone's attention to bring over the bill. If it was quicker probably would have had another cocktail.
P. S.
Michelin starred restaurant in the heart of Soho, raw and fun setting, lovely staff and delicious food. Lunch deal was great value-for-money - Only 23 Pounds for 3 courses!
O. L.
The lamb and smoked octopus were superb
M. G.
Fantastic little cocktail bar. A bit like a speakeasy... Hidden as a fake opticians in a soho side street.
The cocktails are sublime, interesting and exciting. Friendly bartenders. Great bar food too. Run by Jason Atherton. Would you expect anything less?

Could this speakeasy be the most fun cocktail bar in London?
Tucked above the Social Eating House (enter via the door with the 'Opticians' sign above), the Blind Pig serves up delicious cocktail menu with an emphasis on seriously good - but fun drinks - in a traditional wood-paneled leather-seated speakeasy bar. A scan through the drinks menu will reveal ingredients such as Coco Pops milk or Skittles-infused Ketel One alongside the more usual suspects. The bar's quirky ethos finds its way into the presentation of the drinks themselves - order a Silver Screen, and you'll find a mini tub of popcorn clipped to the side of your drink; order a Rye'n'Air, and you'll get your drink in a medicine bottle, tucked inside a carry-on luggage-safe plastic bag.
But the bar is no gimmick - each drink is expertly crafted, with some serious skill and thought having gone in to designing the drinks menu. The best spot in the house is at the bar itself, where the incredibly friendly bar staff will keep you company and guide you through the menu.
Only downside is that the bar shuts at 12, and can be tricky to get into as the night wears on. The bar takes reservations for half of their seats - book ahead if you can.

One of the best cocktail bars in London. Great ingredients, atmosphere and friendly staff. You need i book if you want to get in!

Had a truly excellent lunch yesterday with 4 friends. The steaks were some of the best I’ve had in many years accompanied with superb chips and nicely seasoned salads.

Finding this place is a bit tricky unless you know that the optician sign and the porcine door handle are the clues that you need to go through the swanky restaurant to get upstairs to the just as swanky bar. Great cocktails but not if you're on a budget.

Outstanding three course set lunch

Beef was slightly tough and unseasoned, and béarnaise sauce tasted like mayonnaise and pickles. Very disappointed considering how much we paid.
However my friend had the Rabbit and really enjoyed her meal.

What a cracking night!
The food was superb! The vibe and atmosphere was cracking!
The only way to describe the whole evening was that it was "the tits"
Best restaurant recommendation I have had in a very long time!
Many thanks for a night we will remember!

The sister restaurant to the all-star Pollen Street Social, this little place is tucked away in the heart of Soho with just a touch of mystery.
In stark contrast to Pollen Street, this Eating House is dark and decadent, and perfect for late night forays. Stepping through the heavy curtain into the buzzing ground floor, it's all prohibition chic with dark wood fittings, rich leather seats and tarnished metals (and look at the frontage above!). Greeted by very friendly barmen in buttoned-up rolled-sleeves shirts and braces, it's hard to resist the pull back in time. We were there for drinks having devoured MeatLiquor burgers earlier in the evening so pulled up stools in the restaurant and people-watched (the upstairs bar was too busy and we were too impatient to wait!).
I went for the Cereal Killer - Diplomatico Anejo rum, white chocolate, Galliano ristretto, Coco Pops milk and Xocolat bitters - which came served in a milk bottle with a candy stripe straw. A brilliantly naughty twist on everyone's favourite breakfast beverage. I followed this up with a Wi' Jam In - Appleton V/X rum, apricot jam, mint, fresh lemon juice and pimento - which came served over crushed ice in a silver beaker. With a great little kick, this was a sweet and sour concoction with an unusual payoff.
The non-alcoholic options are tasty too - M went for the Probiotic with smashed pineapple, pomegranate, grenadine, lime juice, yoghurt powder and ginger ale. Served tall, fizzy and unmistakably pink it was a nice surprise to have a soft option with a bit of flavour.
We didn't even glance at the food menu but the service was really attentive and the atmosphere was great and we would have lingered for even longer, I imagine, if it wasn't a school night.
In an area packed to the brim with places to eat and drink, it's sometimes tricky to find somewhere that hits the mark but yep, I think Jason Atherton's done it again and has created a perfect little place to call home

This is definitely Michelin star level dining. The food is very, very good. Not absolutely amazing, but not far off. It is a fairly relaxed place, not formal or stuffy.
A. B.
Good food with decent portion size. Attentive staff. The only thing I had issue with is the acoustics. Came for a working lunch and it got very loud so difficult to discuss issues with other people around the table.
L. A.
Amazing food, great wine and superb service. Incredible flavours and a very varied menu. One of the best veggie menus I've seen!
J. H.
Fabulous food. Had the tasting menu, which featured 6 courses of exceptionally assembled flavours. It is, of course, fabulously expensive too, so make sure it's a special occasion!
O. R.
It was a great experience, good food and very educated staff. Great wine menu with good recommendations from our server. 10/10 would go again.
D. H.
Fun cocktail menu that incorporates unexpected ingredients while managing to remain both refined and balanced. Good service, comfortable space, and a solid drink + food menu, what's not to like?
E. S.
There's a bar right on top called the Blind Pig. Amazing cocktails! Also a dude there is a fan of One Piece. He's got a skull and bones with a strawhat tattoo. Say hi to him for me. Tell him I was wearing the One Piece t-shirt!
F. L.
Great food and good service. The seating was a bit uncomfortable and I wish they had more space between tables. Some of the choices we picked were not as good as we expected, but overall it was good.
J. A.
Pretty cool. Went on a bank holiday Monday for cocktails. We sat upstairs. Will definitely be going back. Will test out the bar persons cocktail guessing skills.
A. F.
Upstairs bar is great for cocktails and bar food. Reservations essential. No stand up bar scene. You book a table and sit at that, so good for talking.
T. L.
I have posted a review at OpenTable so here is a short version - Greta space great vibe and superlative cooking!!! Jason Atherton deserve 10 stars! Book in advance though, to choose the right time.

Hidden upstairs above the highly rated Social Eating House is this warm and friendly speakeasy.
There's something about the classic leather booths and buzz of conversation and good times being had that immediately puts you at ease and sets the tone for a great experience.
Take a seat at the bar and be charmed by the friendliness of the bar tenders who'll enthusiastically talk you through the diverse and playful cocktail menu, which confidently and adventurously ventures into territories many other drinks lists daren't.
If you love a pun (as much as I do), you'll appreciate some of the inventive titles (Kindergarten Cup, Piscotheque!, Rye N' Air, Dill or no Dill to name a few highlights), but don't think for a second that this means the cocktails lack sophistication. Every one we tried was perfectly balanced (and trust me, you'll want to taste a few). Whether your tipple of choice be gin, rum, whisky, or something less mainstream like cachaca, pisco, sherry or perhaps popcorn infused bourbon, you'll find something that you'll be talking about for weeks.
The Blind Pig manages to be simultaneously smart, stylish, fun and homely with just the right measure of exclusivity, counter-balanced by its unpretentiousness.
Go there with a date, go there with friends, go there for business drinks - whatever the occasion, just go!
C. S.
Go upstairs for a cocktail before dinner. The list makes very interesting reading and the cocktails are very enjoyable. You may need to book a table even during the week.
T. B.
The Blind Pig bar upstairs has a great atmosphere, fantastic cocktails and friendly staff. We'll worth a visit but -1 star for how hot it is.
P. P.
What a beautiful place with loads of character.. the staff are so accommodating, the cocktails and selection of drinks are amazing. It's like you are not even in Soho, which is a good thing... Thanks for a great evening
T. K.
Just finished a great meal at the chefs counter, what an experience. Each course was excellent, service amazing and great to witness the workings of the kitchen. Spot on in every aspect. Thanks!!
M. F.
It’s moody dark interior both sets the tone, and gives the vibrancy of the food something to bounce off. I love their wee ‘Jars’ as starters or appetisers. There’s wonderful balance and finesse to the food at Social Eating House. I also love the understated exterior of the place – which looks like a design studio or fashion magazine from the outside. Glam up a little though or you’ll be outshone by the glamour-puss hostesses.

After I had informed the waitress of my vegan diet I was served and unknowingly drank a cocktail containing egg whites. Otherwise I enjoyed my truffle potato dish
J. K. B.
Great food and especially cocktails. A few small errors such as the aperitifs not arriving with the starter and my glass of sparkling water got topped up with still water.
R. B.
A great twist on British food in a Michelin star restaurant that happens to be lively, fun and sophisticated while simultaneously laid back.
S. B.
Beautiful bar and friendly staff, but unfortunately wasn't very impressed with the cocktails (and I've tried my fair share of decent cocktail bars in London). It's a shame, as it seemed promising from the reviews.
j. j.
Omg the cocktails were literally amazing!
K. M.
Fantastic food and lovely service, the lunch special is really worthwhile and unbelievably filling too. The trout was delicious, but the macaroon with peach for desert was my favourite.
O. 2.
My husband and I went to the social wasting house for our anniversary and it was incredible. The starters were a particular highlight and the service was impeccable - they made us feel very well looked after. I highly recommend it!
Z.
Really cool bar, great cocktails. Only negative was how loud the music was causing people to almost yell to hear each other. Making the whole place very loud and hard to. Strange for this style of bar.
S.
Epic Themed Cocktails and great table service. Pricey, but worth it for the craftsmanship that goes into the drinks. Bookings essential.
K. V.
Fantastic ambience, and great cocktail themes! From Peter Rabbit, to The Tiger Came For Tea, the drink concoctions are brilliant. Great cosy place for a date!
C. L.
Food was good, service for drinks and being served was a bit on the slow, inattentive side. All servers were super friendly when passing them in the restaurant but service was a bit cold by staff at the tables.
T. D.
Lucky enough to have seat in the kitchen on the pass, a truly lovely evening. Amazing seasonal food, great wines paired by a very knowledgable and friendly somm.
S. B.
One of my favourite places to eat and drink in London. Friendly and accommodating staff, knowledgeable waiters. Great wine list.
A. D.
Lovely, inventive food, and the atmosphere is fantastic - one of the few places in Soho where you can actually have a conversation with dinner! Loved it and so did my overseas colleagues.
C.
It is not better than Pollen Street Social in ambience and food quality wise. Social Eating House is more of a rough modern British with nearly similar price with Pollen Street Social. If you are looking to spend around 30-40 quid just walk to the opposite is where the Pollen Street social is. You will fall for their dessert bar.
J. S.
Stunningly delicious, artfully prepared food with excellent service.
S. E.
amazing little gem for fine dining in Soho, just 5 minutes from the office. I am spending far too much time in the restaurant bar above: Blind Pig - great cocktails if that is what you are after!
K.
Nice environment and polite staff! Food is also quite good !
A. H.
Great restaurant with very nice menu and good wine list. Very good atmosphere as well; not too loud, but lively.
P. V.
This place never disappoints. Delicious food in a cozy atmosphere, it's great for a nice dinner or a fancy lunch if you're laying over in london for a few hours.
G. L.
Quite good food but go there for the cocktails in the first floor. Fantastic selection and service, some great non-alcoholic ones for the kids.
D. E.
Great food. Good music. Really knowledgeable staff. Very impressed.
A. L.
Wonderful food and service.
J. L.
Went as a big group and had a great time, although I do think it's better suited for more intimate parties. Food and cocktails all nice.
E. B.
This is top notch fine dining. Jason Argentina has outdone himself again with this fantastic new restaurant. Check it out as soon as you can
J. P.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Had the steak and wasn’t disappointed. Good wine list too.
S. A.
The chef's table tasting menu and wine flight was a delight to the taste buds. It's a great restaurant with a great range of food.
D. T.
Lovely setting. Cocktail descriptions offered so much promise, flavours were a little dissapointing. Bit of style over substance in my opinion.
J. H.
The lunch set was both delicious and reasonably priced.
L. N.
Excellent service. Amazing cocktails!
A. P.
Great tasting food let down by bright neon light and chaotic service. Pity really cause the food was great albeit on the expensive side for what it really is:casual, loud and mains at around 30
C. P.
Slightly underwhelmed considering the Michelin star. Service a little overzealous, duck skin flaccid - generally good, but I've had better, cheaper. Sorry.
C. T.
Ate here for birthday lunch. Staff very friendly and professional. Food was delicious and good value considering it's a Michelin star restaurant
M. B.
Jason Atherton is amazing. Food is amazing. Very relaxed compared to some of his venues, but staff need to speed up - not up to his usual standard
D. S.
Everything was a near miss.
It had the sense of a me to, trying to be a bit too cool. It seemed to have all the right ingredients, but couldn't quite pull it off.
That said, it has become a bit of a staple for drinks. Must try the food downstairs at some point...
A. A.
I have to say that service and presentation of dishes is impressive. However, I am not a fan of modern British restaurant so I didn't enjoyed much.
K. F.
Excellent food, good wine, service attentive.
C. M.
Lovely atmosphere, great place to take friends. And a menu that's difficult to put down. Loads of great choices.
C. H.
Excellent food, great value pre-theatre menu at £38 for 3 courses including 250ml of wine.
J. B.
Great food, great cocktails (try the silver screen) and friendly service.
Highly recommend the "duck, smoked ham, egg and chips" to start.
J.
Great vibes, great food
B. D.
Great food and cocktails. If you don't mind the heat, get a seat downstairs in the kitchen - you can watch your meal being prepared by the chefs.
J. W.
Fantastic cocktails! Also highly rate the kitchen-dining experience for special occasions
S. T.
Went for lunch...it was fantastic. The Duck confit in the jar alone is worth going back. We had 8 people and just about everything we ate was excellent.
P. S.
Food was good but not up to the standard you would expect - particularly given the prices
S. D.
Excellent food. We had the fixed priced dinner and never regretted it. Great service. The attention to details make the place.
A. N.
Tasty cocktails but somewhat limited selection. Staff a bit direct for my liking. Worth a visit though.
S. G.
Good food and good ambiance.
H. E.
Excellent food - truffled egg and lamb were both amazing. Great cocktails as well.
M. H.
Fantastic food, great birthday meal surprise, chefs table was brilliant, even if a little hot at times - but then again it is a working kitchen. 👍
J.
Brilliant cocktail bar, creative and delicious cocktails at a price that isn't totally unreasonable. One of the better cocktail bars I have visited.
A. V.
One of the most amazing places I've ever been. So relaxing, laid back, no crowd, no overly loud people. Staff is brilliant.
A. M.
Solid food and service but does not command value, even for a Michelin star restaurant. Dishes need more creativity.
N. M.
Great cocktails & food, wonderful staff but pricey.....Although I enjoyed it, I would think twice about going back just because the prices are so high.
N. E.
Cool place. Staff are great and cocktails are inventive. Been 2 times now and planning on going back
K. H.
Great 'fine dining' with a slightly more laid back atmosphere. The food is creative, tasty and well presented.
D. N.
Great food and wine. Good for a group work lunch that we started at 12.30pm and finished at 16.30
R. L.
Steak was poorly cooked, food was decent but not worth the price. However, the service by the wait staff was impeccable.
