Reviews of Texas Joe's Slow Smoked Meats
V.
Tried out Texas Joe after going on Google to find a smokehouse in London. Loved the ambience, really brings you to Texas (like in the movies!). The short rib was DELICIOUS and the portion was big for one. My husband loved it and devoured about 80% of it before admitting defeat. The chicken taco was so well balanced in flavour that it left me wanting more. Frito pie and cornbread as sides were exactly what we need to compliment the mains. Cocktails were delicious and pretty as well. All in all, a great experience! Will definitely be back to try dessert in the future as was stuffed this time!

The food is very good, however the menu doesn't describe the food well enough for people new to texas BBQ meats. We felt like we had to ask the staff if we wanted anything even though we tried to make it as obvious as possible that we're waiting.
I'll say it again the though, the food is incredible. I just think the staff could be a bit more attentive and the food could be better described. I've attached a photo of the beef short rib I had.

Great spot for a taste of Texas in London. One of the best beef briskets I have had. The meat was amazing. Good choice of sides, drinks and cocktails and some interesting special dishes. Service was friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.
S. H.
The one of best brisket I’ve ever had, and the best meal this American has had in the UK. Joes partner was our gracious server - her service was as fine as the food. Brisket was awesome, corn bread was incredible. Wow.

Texas Joe's slow cooked joy! This place was amazing.
Very tasty and succulent brisket with a side of coleslaw and gherkin/pickle. For one, their coleslaw was literally awesome and I didn't expect the taste explosion when I tried it.
The meat is absolutely cooked to perfection and just falls apart with ease.
I even tried their dessert which was a homemade slice of buttermilk pie topped with a cherry compote; this pie was nothing like I have ever had before; very very good.
To top it off, they even have cocktails!
The staff were friendly and laid back too.
You're missing out if you haven't visited this place before.

Texas Joe's is a great place to hang out with friends. They have some benches with umbrellas outside. Inside the restaurant is light industrial and rustic in appearance. The food has a focus on BBQ and slow cooked meats. We've been a few times with our meat eating friends who love the joint. We are vegetarians and like to eat at Texas Joes's because they have tacos, mac and cheese, corn bread and fries. Last time we went I took pictures so that I could write an article for my blog. We tried every vegetarian dish on the menu. The burnt baby gem lettuce salad was excellent. Everything was amazing!!!!
T. N.
Had a lovely Friday night meal here. Great food. The best chips I’ve ever had. Salty, fluffy, crispy. A must. Great Mac n cheese too. Short rib was perfectly cooked and brisket was tasty but a little salty for our taste. Wings were ok but lacked depth in flavour. Only one option for dessert but think it was due to covid. Look forward to them having more. Overall this was a great meal and I’d go back… often! Service was pleasant and friendly. Check it out. Worth a visit!!!
E. T.
The bbq is actually very delicious. I was skeptical beforehand but they do things properly here.
The meat is well seasoned, it’s very juicy, and has the right amount of tenderness. this is worth it
Must eat - brisket, short ribs, pork ribs
E. D.
What an amazing meal! Best BBQ I've had in London! Will be back very soon! 😋
R. M.
I mean….heaven has been found in a slice of brisket..a “burnt” gem salad and basically everything one can consume at this establishment. A very comfortable place to eat, small yet has so much atmosphere. As fans of smoking we were blown away at the quality and diversity of the meats/sides & tipples! Our table service was without the best I’ve had in a long time, maybe ever in London… I figured it was Joe’s significant other and if I’m honest she left the most lasting impression… genuinely attentive and interested in how we enjoyed the food… will go back as soon as we can! Already been sending out the reco’s to friends. Don’t spend a second thinking you should book somewhere else!
C. L.
Wonderful service, incredible food, delicious drinks, and a fantastically Texan atmosphere. Highly recommend this to anyone who loves authentic bbq and my fellow expats who need a little slice of American love.
Thank you for being so attentive with our gf food requirements. Can’t wait to come back for more!
M. G.
Six of us had a fantastic lunch. I have been several times before and recommended to the group, no pressure then!
Texas Joe’s did not let us down they were all blown away!
Many thanks to all involved we will al be back
Y. D.
A warm, friendly with a wonderful chilled atmosphere! The service and food were sensational and loved every minute. Our personal favourites were the Pork ribs and chili mac and cheese. What I do recommend is come hungry and if you feel heavy by the end of it, go next door to Joe's bar and have a rum and ginger beer ;)
J. L.
Good grief, this place is one of my favourites. Smoked meat (brisket, pork, mutton). Amazing sides. Tacos to share.
Literally had two deserts tonight.
A winner every time.
T. W.
Hands down best bbq in London (if not Europe). Hope you’ll start selling beef jerky again soon.
h. a.
Nice little place. Ordered the beef ribs and brisket. So tender and delicious! Service was really good. The staff were attentive and checking if we needed anything else. Can't wait to go back!
L. J.
I had been seeking a decent alternative to some of the other more well known BBQ venues that I had dined at, and this certainly delivered. Great service and great food. The only thing missing (in my opinion) was some blues music, just to enhance the atmosphere. Will defo visit again.
P. S.
Texas Joe's catapulted me right back to everything I love about eating in the Lone Star state. The beef ribs were as good as the best I've ever had. The delicious potato salad tasted like a unique family recipe. Seriously, it doesn't get better than this.
V. K.
Nice place to have a proper American barbecue dinner. Delicious meat. Very good side dishes. Excellent service.
L. D.
Delicious food and wonderful service! Came here for my partner's birthday and they gave us complimentary frozen margaritas! Had a range of dishes including veggie tacos which were amazing!
A. C.
Best BBQ you'll find in London! Everything is so delicious! I tend to get brisket, mac & cheese, and cornbread! The pork ribs are insanely good too. Never disappoints!
I. D.
Oh my gosh, where do I start! I can’t flaw this place. Authentic Texan cuisine, run by a real Texan and a brilliant team. The food’s just divine and reasonably priced. If you’re going with friends, make sure to try the Margarita pitcher, it’s fab to share.
The stars of the show were the beef brisket and the chilli mac. The chicken wings are delicious, the corn bread is amazing and the chips is cut in an interesting way which makes it so damn crispy. Amazing service and food, unlike most overrated restaurants on Bermondsey St. We’ll be going back soon! 👍
C. J.
Delicious! The restaurant is small and fuss free because its all about the food here! I'd highly recommend the beef brisket and the chicken tacos. The Mai Tai is also a winner. I wish I ordered something to take home too.
K. K.
Fast service and good quality of meat. We loved it. And they gave wet tissue for hand. That was really helpful all day.
L. D.
Loved the food and service here.
Table of 4 and all had different choices from the menu. And all of us were in awe. Absolutely loved the food, soft, fall off the bone, smokey, and beautiful!
The service too was great. Friendly and happy staff, quick to take orders and help patrons.
The place looks like it needs some love and attention, however this doesn't affect the food at all. Will be back soon!
A. H.
Great, authentic barbeque. Be warned, you will find yourself over-ordering, not just because of the plentiful portions but because you'll want to try so many of the flavours on offer at Joe's. We started with the chicken wings; lightly smoked and served with barbecue and red sauce; simple but delicious. I had the Vegas strip steak, perfectly cooked, tender but flavourful and accompanied by rich bone marrow. But the stars of the show were the brisket and the chili mac; the former rich, tender and complex and the latter so homely but packing a punch. Paired off with lovely simple desert and amazing cocktails. Definitely worth a visit; come hungry!
D. J.
Brilliant bbq. Highly recommend pork shoulder (soft, pulled meat with bbq sauce) and chicken tacos (beautiful). Mac and cheese a little runny but OK after it settles, grapefruit margarita - brilliant! The reason why-1 star - the wings were bad, really bad. We didn't really eat it because the meat was very red (we were explained due to particular way of smoking) but it was not tasty, very dry. Would come back, just no wings next time :)
R. Z.
I have to say this place has very good and authentic Texan food. I had the BBQ brisket was fantastic. The atmosphere is amazing and the owner is a Texan man himself. We went to the Bar for drinks before our meal and the drinks were very reasonable and good.
M. (.
Had to call to find out if they are even open. Many different websites for booking different times. Even the website still states they are still temp closed: I have called the number it is working. The conversation was very brief as the restaurant is closed on a Saturday at 22.00. the rating is at 3 as I can not give 5 or 4. All the information provided is out of date. I will review in the coming months
S. E.
Amazing food and service! Definitely recommend the beef brisket with a side (both potato salad and jalapeño cornbread were amazing). Will definitely be coming back soon!
S. K.
The food was excellent, meat falling apart on the tongue and so tasty. The 'house mixed juice' was a delicious alternative to alcohol, and was presented well enough that I didn't feel bad about not having alcohol. The staff were friendly and helpful, and they were happy to let us sit outside. This is on my list of places to go back to.
M. K.
very good and friendly service and the smoked brisket was delicious, moist, juicy, great flavour. same with the smoked pork ribs - fries are also not to be missed! excellent themed cocktails menu. Thanks for a great dinner, will be back again soon!
J. (. H.
My favourite London restaurant. Always a fantastic atmosphere, friendly service from Joe, Fliss & the team and incredible food. Even beyond the sensational brisket, the bacon wrapped & stuffed jalapeño pepper's are a sacred thing to behold.
A. H.
Last week was our first time visiting Texas Joe's and it was amazing. Although the food did not look like a lot, it was so filling I think if we ordered any more we would have struggled to finish the dishes between the two of us. My boyfriend had the brisket and he mentioned it just melted in the mouth. I had the pork shoulder which was perfect with the barbecue sauce they provided. Hopefully we can visit again sometime in the future.
Feedback / suggestion to Texas Joe- can you put a nut free dessert on your menu please? We were only offered the pecan pie as a dessert.
O. N.
One of the best bbq places in London! It's a bit pricey, especially for the amount of meat you get, but it's so delicious 🤤
J. J. L.
As a Texan, and the owner of Longhorn Barbecue in Bastrop, TX, I will say the food here is dang good. Of all the BBQ joints I’ve tried in London this one reminds me of home. What a pleasant surprise to find this place while traveling.
S. C.
Wow. Seriously impressed with the food and service was friendly and attentive on a busy Friday night. We had a lot of food washed down with some good beers on tap. Had after dinner cocktails and the dessert was a tasty apple pie. Best BBQ I've had in London this far and that's saying something. If I had to fault I'd say they could improve their bread, their meat deserves better bread! Get on it Joe!
S. C.
Absolutely out of this world. A great little find, definitely recommend to any meat lover. Absolutely amazing.
L. P.
Highly recommended! The mutton shoulder was sublime and staff were ever so friendly. Will be coming back to try the rest of the menu!
J. K.
Food is good. Fries with Chilli and Cheese amazing.
Ribs are full of meat.
Pork sandwich was actually a bun.
Hot sauce is super hot.
2 people cost about £40 with soft drink.
It was good and will return but will not go out of my way to do so.
A. C.
We had the beef short rib and pork belly with bone marrow, mac and cheese and corn bread on the side. We were in meat heaven, good value too. You will see me back here. Hopefully soon... when I worked off the pounds I put on.
N. I.
Went here for an impromptu birthday dinner and it was fantastic. Great range of flavours and meats that just melted in your mouth.
B. M.
Phenomenal food.
We had the brisket (requested the fattier end, which was a stroke of genius by my mate - it literally melted in the mouth).
We also had wings, chilli fries & jalapeño corn bread.
Desserts on special are also highly recommended!
Could not fault a single item. It was all perfect. Great beer to wash it down with, too.
The outstanding service was an added bonus.
Will be back very soon! Thanks Joe & team 👌🏻
K. A.
Wow can't rate this place enough! Such friendly staff and great atmosphere.
I ordered a lot of food. Too much. But because it was all so good I refused to leave until I finished it. I was stuffed for days!
Highly recommended you try the bone marrow. Don't be afraid of it....once you try it you will NEVER go back!
2021 visited again. The food just doesn't disappoint! No bone marrow on the menu, but I've been assured it will come back!
M.
Came for the brisket and was not disappointed. Perfectly smoked, tender, juicy meat. My wife had the chicken thighs and they were probably the best smoked chicken I've ever had. Friendly staff and good atmosphere, would certainly come again.
J. C.
Wow! Great food! As a visiting Texan, I heard about this place and I had to try it. This BBQ makes Texas Proud! The brisket was cooked fantastically and the portions were nice and plentiful! Order the Burnt Ends and you won't be disappointed! The pecan pie was so-so. I would have loved to see a Cobbler or Banana Pudding option :)
H. R.
4.25 stars. Short walk from London bridge tucked away in the back streets. Stumbled upon this place as a walk in customer. Beef Brisket, rib and shoulder all excellent. Pie for dessert. Friendly staff. What's not to like? Recommended and will return
A. K.
Had dinner here last night and was very impressed. We were informed of 2 specials on the menu and ordered both. The beef brisket was very good, Mac n cheese was incredible and the chicken was equally tasty! Highly recommend
A. Z.
Being from Texas and having been to the likes of Snows, Franklin's, Blacks, etc, I feel like i know BBQ and this place does not disappoint. Definitely recommend! My one disappoint was no iced tea, but delicious pecan pie for dessert and all is forgiven.
M. H.
Back again, this time for a celebration meal with my wife. She'd never been before and had heard me rave about the place from my visits with work colleagues in the past. She *loved* it. The pork ribs were (as always) nothing short of excellent, the chicken wings superb and the Frito Pie a triumph. Having tried some of the quintessential barbecue places in Texas (like Salt Lick near Austin), we both think Texas Joe's is better.
This will be our go-to place for a special meal out from now on. Definitely worth a short diversion off the beaten track whenever you are in the area.
N.
Southern style American food with great service.
Portion sizes are huge, even if you're only having sides. Recommend chicken wings plus sweet potato fries, enough for one person.
The chicken wings themselves are big as complete wings. Meat pulls easily off the bone and has an amazing smokey flavour to it. There are sweet chilli and whiskey-infused BBQ flavour sauces included in small pots with the dish. Sweet potato fries are long, crispy and plentiful and are served with honey mustard. Both of these items are delicious.
Service is decent as staff are attentive, taking and delivering your order promptly. I didn't have to wait longer than 10 minutes for my meal to be served at around 9:15pm on a Thursday.
This place should get 5 stars but suffers a few issues.
Clearly, this place is all about comfort food - lots of flavorsome, rich and stodgy dishes. However, salads should generally provide some respite from this as a matter of variety and by their very nature of being the bastion of a healthy eater's choice of food. Unfortunately, the house salad offered here was zealously drenched in oil to a sickening degree making it unpalatable. On top of this there were bits of bacon inserted which was disappointing and not expected; I would generally avoid this place if you intend to bring vegetarians.
Another issue was the bathroom running out of tissue paper. With no hand dryer available as a backup, this was an embarrassing situation to be in after going all hands-in with chicken wings. Wet wipes after the meal would've been useful but thwarting customer hygiene, albeit unintentionally, is a big no-no.
Despite these shortcomings, a visit to Texas Joe is recommended for meat eaters who don't care about the problems mentioned above.
G. I.
Very tasty, not only the main courses but the sides as well (fries, wings and mac & cheese). There are some tables outside which on a week day were not full. Indoors there is some noise, but the decoration is nice.
G. “. T.
Nice straight forward menu with decent prices. The main dishes could be considered small by some but the sides are generously sized. The pork belly could definetely be presented a bit better but the meat itself was very well cooked. Wasn't a fan of the cheese but the fries them self were probably the best I've had in this country. The special mixed drinks could use a bit more explaining as you will have no idea what your ordering. All this mixed with a great laid back staff made it a very enjoyable experience that I will definetely be going back to.
K.
“Just eat it” -read to the “beat it” rhythm!
We got the brisket and the pork ribs too, a side of Mac and cheese and we plough’d right through. They serve, they feed you and they know that’s it the truth, just to eat it, trust me it’s the only proof, just eat it eat it eat it eat it ,don’t delay the booking and go there for the cooking, JUST EAT IT!
B. R.
Absolutely superb BBQ restaurant.
The brisket was cooked to absolute perfection. All of the food was delicious, was nicely presented and everyone was very friendly and welcoming.
O. L.
A lovely American meat house. The god was a lot nicer than I thought it would be. I had perfectly cooked beef brisket and delicious tacos. Good service and a nice atmosphere as well. Only slightly negatives were the chips which were quite a small portion and not particularly nice. Overall a very nice place to eat.
s. h. C.
Okay BBQ places. I found the pork belly and the daily special steak tasty. The brisket beef however is not that great hence I have to rate this review down by one star.
C. L.
Go for the brisket and bacon wrapped jalapeños they are both awsome. One if not the best brisket in London, smoked over oak. They do an off menu meat platter which covers all the major bbq meat groups, which it's a winner.
S. H. L.
The ribs taste very good. The highlight of the restaurant. It is tender and marinated well. BBQ sauce is done well. Very authenticated texas barbecue. But sadly other plate are just soso. Still it worth a trip to try that ribs.
A. A.
We have been coming here for years , I tried many other places & we always say Texas Joe is the best ! We work right next door and it’s so nice to have a little break here and lovely food :)
M. W.
Just pop in on the way back to hotel.
Cozy place. Smoked cooking is special. Mutton shoulder and beef brisket were good though a bit salty.
Reasonable price, good margarita. Recommended.
M. S.
A Canadian in London eating Texas BBQ.
Went in with low expectations of BBQ in London and was impressed with all the meats and sides I tried here.
Brisket and poppers had a great smokey flavor. The smoked marrow bones were awesome and the ribs had just the right amount of chew and a great rub. Only miss was the BBQ sauce with the ribs. Little bit to tomato and sugar for a BBQ sauce.
S. T.
Great food however a little pricey and the mains come with no sides. Standout dishes where the short rib, mac and cheese & the Pecan pie
T. S. T.
Born and raised in Texas, I know BBQ. While this was very good food, we can’t fully agree that it’s Texas BBQ. Close, but what can we expect being in London? In all, we enjoyed our visit and the staff was pleasant.
D. O.
Fantastic brisket, amazing jalapeño cornbread, and great margaritas...also friendly service! I'll be back!
M.
Myself and my boyfriend attended Texas joes today. We was met by a very polite and friendly lady who informed us of where to sit. We was told about the menu along with the specials.
I ordered chicken breast which comes with bread, pickles and Coleslaw, Mr ordered the shoulder of pork, we ordered a side of sweet potato fries to share with a Dr Pepper and a Beer.
Good size portions and very good Presentation. The food was very quick.
My chicken was beautiful, piping hot and full of flavour, personally didnt like the Coleslaw and onions as covered in vinegerette which wasnt to my taste but Mr enjoyed his.
Mr said his pork was a little dry, wasn't moist enough for his liking. Beer was very good also. No room for Desserts.
If asked would we return again the answer is yes.
Make your own opinions on food and give them a try, you never know you maybe pleasantly surprised.
R. S.
Fast service. Being a Texan, I can say that this is pretty close to the real thing! The pork ribs are tender and very well cooked. The sweet potato fries are perfectly cooked - crispy on the outside and tender inside - but 5 quid for sweet potato fries! Really?
C. M.
Amazing brisket. Literally the best.
Great flavours and textures in the chicken taco.
Our server, Anda was great fun and very helpful. Decent beers selection. If you can grab a table in the sun do it. Highly recommended.
F. S.
The best beef I have ever eaten in the last 40 years. The Crew so kind, the place is nice and traditional. If You visited London, this is a must.
S. S.
Real Texas feel. Amazing flavors from a very kind and friendly professionals.
Smokin' Experience. Do not forget to get some jerkies on the go. Snacks that make a difference for every chill out beer or whiskey situation.
*Tip, ask the waiters for the "hidden" bar connected and the ramens....
C. S.
Great tasty food and portions are filling. The sides are big and better to share unless you are super hungry. Staff are friendly and this place is definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere is American-like and quirky. Lovely place for a date or to have lunch/dinner with your friends and family.
G. C.
Great place to eat bbq ribs and brisket. You should try the pork ribs, the mutton sandwich and the brisket sandwich. Everything is great. The sides are great, try the Mac and cheese, sweet potato and fries.
T. B.
We coincidentally found this place and it was awesome. Delicious brisket and chicken wings. All the other menus look awesome. Need to come back and try something else. And one thing to the team. Keep up the great work 😋🤤
T.
Great food, brisket, ribs, bone marrow and even the fries. Very cozy with friendly staff. They gave my puppy a bone as soon as we got in, he was over the moon and so was I as I could enjoy my meal in peace
N. O. (. F. N.
Great food. Finally had American style meat after being here for 4 years. Will definitely be back. The service was also really good. Food came quickly
E. S.
Just a really wonderful place - well TWO places.
Texas Joes is the most obvious, a big glass window reveals some of the best low'n'slow BBQ in town. Delish sandwiches and meats, great deserts and friendly staff (though you can't eat those). Next door, by the red lantern is a ramen place where they use the same BBQ meats to make the most delish ramen I have ever had. Really highly recommended and nowhere near as far off the beaten track as you may imagine. Give it a go!
J. G.
This is the best BBQ restaurant I've found in London yet. It is the most authentic "Texas" experience you could ask for. It genuinely is run by a chap called Joe, and he's the biggest legend going.
You'll often find Joe's super long American car parked outside, just in case you thought you had come to the wrong place. Joe is often found walking through the restaurant with his cowboy hat. The staff here are always friendly and accommodating.
Onto the food – you better be hungry. Texas Joe's is all about slow cooked meats, and they don't do things in halves – the portions are huge! If eating with a partner, then I highly recommend the Brisket, the fries, and the house salad. That is likely enough for two fully grown adults.
If you're feeling adventurous though then get a meal to yourself – perhaps that makes sense if you have been fasting for a week.
The brisket nachos are also a great starter, and the mac and cheese is a filling but incredibly tasty side. I recommend the fries over the sweet potato fries here – the normal fries are perfection and come with a delicious sauce to dip into.
Everything is served on trays, and there's a selection of classic American beers, and lots of typically American soft drinks like cream soda and root beer.
Yee ha!
P. C.
Great food best short rib I have had
B. H.
Staff and Owner are very helpful to make sure customers enjoy their meal. Some prefer the lean meat; I like mine unhealthily succulent fatty one😅
S. H.
This place is a hidden gem. The food is tasty and plentiful and the atmosphere is, I guess, simple and easy. The prices reflect the areas and drinks are a little pricey ( especially cocktails), but when you want some comfort food it's definitely worth a visit.
They actually gave us a lovely aperol gift box the last time which we thought was very kind. Overall I love this place for food, but would do the cocktail portion of my evening elsewhere.
M. R.
Probably the closest thing to a traditional Texas BBQ in London, certainly the closest thing that I know about. It's perhaps a little pricey but given that there's no other place offering this kind of experience it's probably worth it and the portions are a good size too. Come hungry!! 😋
J. A.
They had run out of both mains we wanted. It was with a twinge of sadness that I watched the customers on the next table eat what must have been the last ones
C. K.
Had dinner here and tried the beef brisket and mutton shoulder (pictured). Both were very good and I would probably pick the mutton as my favourite between the two. We also had mac & cheese and sweet potato fries both of which I would recommend. The only let down was the dessert we tried, pecan pie, which wasn't great in my opinion. Hence a 4* rating. However I would give the meat and sides 5*!
D. S.
Great place for a good plate of delicious meat. Portions can look small but never been left wanting. The meat from the pit is perfectly soft and succulent with excellent smokey, crispy skin. Sides are a good size and certainly enough to share between two.
It is also little pricey. Wine starts at over £20 and they do put on a discretionary 12.5% service charge.
A. B.
Great bbq, the mac n' cheese was amazing. Huge portions. Cool atmosphere. Great service. Wish we had room fo dessert...
W. Y.
It will be hard for anyone to give this place a bad review. The food looks great, the prices are premium reflecting the quality of the produce, the staff all seemed nice, friendly and helpful. We are our meal, trying everything we could on the menu and our conclusion was the flavor coming through wasn’t that special at all. Compared to bbq places across london it’s the best hands down-hotbox is probably better for flavor and this place does everything else right.
H. S. M.
One of the best bbq meat feast in London! Well worth it and great staff here. Very friendly!
G. B.
Brisket, brisket, all day long, brisket 🤤
If you know anything about slow cooked meats and the art form that is brisket, you will appreciate this 👌🏻
M. W.
Great little restaurant in the back streets of bermondsey. The meats were excellent, the beat pork ribs, smoked jumbo chicken wings and beef rib I have had and I eaten a few. Beer selection needs a bit or work. Corona and Camden hells is not much of a selection but overall a very tasty dinner.
S. C.
What an absolute gem of a find tucked away in London. The best smoked meats I have ever had, amazing hospitality and ambiance. The meats just fell apart on the fork and melted in the mouth, can’t wait to return. Great drinks as well next door in the bar.
D.
Exactly what you'd expect, done well. I had the beef rib which was delicious! Interesting bloody Mary style drink with a Mexican twist.
P. I.
If you love BBQ meat, then you gotta check this place out! The brisket was amazing, literally melt in your mouth stuff.
Portions were good, price was spot on and a great selection of beers too! Will be back soon
E. R.
Second visit and it lived up to the wonderful memories. Great food and service (also great with my allergies). We don't save room for dessert but have a coconut margarita to finish yum!
S. M.
Staffs are very nice.
Pork ribs is perfect, super soft and moist.
Brisket was not moist, didn’t really like it, it was dry on one side but fairly moist on the other.
If you had texas bbq before and you might be disappointed but it still scratches that itch.
L. A.
Great small bbq place. Cheese fries were a highlight.
L. B.
The best bbq we’ve had in the U.K. Been visiting Texas regularly for the last 10 years and this bbq is top-notch and authentic. Every item we tried was excellent, even the fries were amazing. Cocktails and atmosphere were great too. Thank you!
K.
Visited on a Thursday and being ravenous, we ordered the special wings, the nachos with brisket, the poppers with bacon and the pork ribs. All the starters were great but the ribs although well cooked, lacked flavour.
The pecan pie for dessert was quite nice with a lovely balance of salt and sweet.
Service was great and they took off the ribs after our feedback so this place is a winner for me. Just wished the ribs were better.
A good alternative restaurant with great meats is Hotbox in Shoreditch. Similar concept, more up market with great tasting meats.
The cocktails at Texas Joes were great too. Really hope they manage to up their game in the mains as it's a really good concept.
C. G.
Amazing quality trender Slow Smoked Meat, friendly staf and owner Chef Texas joe. Recommended on the highes to visit this restaurant 10/10❤️👌👍

Brilliant meat. Very nice staff. Chips were amazing. Highly recommended!

Off the chart meat. If I could give this place 6* I would.
Get a jug of margaritas you won't regret it.
T. M.
Twice in two days!!!!! The chicken wings!!! Guys keep the chef doing what his doing... I love the atmosphere it almost feels like I am back in the USA! Now everytime I am in London bridge I will have the urge to visit to get some chicken wings to go! I also need to try the pork ribs! The only really big issue is price point!!! This needs to be reviewed as the food is really pricey for what it is £8 for 6 wings is not cool!
B. C.
Not cheap, but very good meats. We tried the brisket, pork shoulder and mutton. Very different, but all melt-in-the-mouth perfect. The brisket steals the show though. Frito pie is a rarity in London but quite nice (literally chilli over fritos, what could go wrong?) and the chips very good as well. Looking FW to the mac and cheese next time!
C. D.
Randomly stumbled upon this place and don't be deterred by the simplist menu or choices. EVERYTHING on the menu is delicious! It's like candy, that's how good it is!
I recommend the brisket, you won't be disappointed!
In the photo you have their special Tornado burger which my girlfriend thought she can devour but I call that a worthy challenge !
C. R.
The closest thing to Texas BBQ you're going to find this side of the pond. Proper slow cooked meat, great selection of sides, washed down with beer. Just awesome.
f. k.
Best smoked brisket in London. Straight from the south and he has the pit to prove it. Try the bone marrow, piece of fluffyness from beef paradise.
M. A.
Texas Joe's, big flavour and slow cooked delicious meat that just falls off the bone. Great venue bringing in that welcoming Texan feel with friendly staff.
A. J.
Decent food.
Some items better than others. We ordered the waiter recommended dishes dishes and felt we would have done better ordering off the menu.
Decent cocktails and sides.
Note: review updated after communication with owner who took action to address concerns. Great customer service and engagement.
J. l.
I was looking for inspiration to start slow smoking meat and wow was their brisket and pork ribs a treat every bite was a expoision of smoke super tender meat. When I first got the portion and was like 20 quid for that but time and energy they put in to that was well worth it I will definitely be coming back regularly.
T. W.
Texas Joes is a nice location and serving great food. The menu is hidden in an old newspaper and the ambient looks quite nice. Everything looks used, but that makes the look and feel more authentic. The personell are super friendly and courteous. I can definitively recommend a dinner here.
B. A.
We used to really like this place and go there quite often in the past few months - recently they have changed the menu. The chicken tacos were almost inedible due to how much cartilage there was - they were much better when it was a single taco with crispy chicken in my opinion. Would be nice to have a scale of what is spicy and how much as my partner tries to avoid anything spicy.
B. “. D.
By far the best smokehouse I've visited in a long time. Decor on point and absolutely delicious!!!!! Will definitely return on my next London visit
h. s.
Amazing BBQ!! The atmosphere is very Texas style and the food is great and not to expensive. I really recommend you to visit this place.
V. H.
Definitely one of our favourite local places. The beef brisket is amazing... Stuffed jalapenos are a must too! Portions are big, so make sure you go there hungry
B. S.
Great food, drinks and service!
The brisket here was better than what we had in Texas!!
B. B.
Absolutely ridiculously good food. The Mac and cheese was so so good, so was the brisket and so was the pork shoulder. I'd recommend sharing with people rather than going it alone.
B. K.
Haven't had such great smoked meat since Texas. Amazing experience altogether. Well done.
G. W.
Great bbq. Followed them from Holloway road. The Brisket was perfect, lovely chicken wings, great sauces (wanted to take some home). Friendly and attentive staff. Definitely coming back to get my bbq fix!!
T. M.
Just fantastic!! I could eat a whole tray of that frito pie! And the drinks were delicious. Can't recommend enough!
C. C.
We are regulars of this amazing place and we absolutely love the pork ribs and beef brisket. They also do a lovely michelada and grapefruit paloma cocktail. Great American sized portions and reasonable prices. Bonus of a Cadillac parked out front for photo ops.
J. C.
I have to say, I was super exited to try this place, and maybe my hopes were too high based off the Google reviews. The flavours were great. Clearly authentic. However the beef brisket was dry and didn’t fall apart in your mouth. The jalapeño corn bread was decent, so definitely check that out. Their Texas whiskey range is solid. The layout of the building and seating is weird and causes the ambiance to feel disjointed.
N. L.
Great service. Fantastic bbq food - the best I've had in the uk. Well worth checking out.
D. C.
Great food and reasonably priced for central london
G. T.
Smashing place always great service and the BBQ is devine! Make sure you book and always stop to chat to Texas Joe.
A.
Great BBQ restaurant, been to a few in London and this has the best flavour, the meat was very tender. Had the brisket and short ribs, both were great. Food came in a tray with slaw and pickle, which was again really good and defo added to the meal. Service was very quick and staff was really polite. Can't wait to try out the rest of the menu.
L. R.
Great tasting authentically smoked meats cooked to perfection. Lots of outdoor seating, indoor seating has lots of ventilation and the staff are all wearing face coverings. We were excited to try the dessert because in our experience when a restaurant only has one dessert to offer it’s incredible... wow, the pecan pie did not disappoint. Great little find.
E. E.
Decent short ribs and pork ribs, and the fries were ok. However, most negative reviews are accurate on this one I'm afraid. The brisket, which is probably the biggest attraction to texas bbq, was most definitely overpriced for 3 slices of (what I got) salty and visibly dry brisket. Utterly utterly disappointed at this. The slaw was too vinegary for my taste, and the cornbread was indeed crumbly and also overpriced for what you get. Much could be improved here. Overall, the price to content/quality ratio was average, and having spent a considerable amount, generally left me with much to desire after my visit.
J.
Real Texas bbq in London! Continues to deliver year after year. Melt in your mouth brisket. Good cocktail and beer selection.
B. L.
The team here (and at their previous pop ups before having this site) have been the only reliably excellent slow smoked meats place in London since the demise of Pitt Cue in Soho.
Kauboi Ramen will come back at some point and it needs to be that creative outlet so the place is not forever stuck as an echo of distant norms.
Root beer is currently not in stock.
The brisket sets a standard to inform all of Britain what the difference is between barbecue and ‘cooking outside’.
L. M.
Joe's never stops amazing me, I've been heartfelt 😢 to come back after two years of eating greens and pandemic and eat a PROPER barbecue roast.
Sorry vegans 😬
J. S. L.
Went with friends and the food was fantastic. We had a range of meat with fries and sweet potato fries which went really well with the main!
T. W.
Sweet little place with nice staff and good food for a fair price. Spicy and smokey, would return to treat myself.
J. C.
On the whole it was good. Tasty food that was good value on the whole for portion size. We spent ~£100 for three people with the tip and we weren't being conservative. Four meat mains, three sides, and beers.
Brisket - some of the best I've had!
Thighs - I loved them, though my sister complained about the rub being too hot
Ribs - a real highlight. Difficult to get wrong, but so good in this instance!
Pork belly - let down. Pork belly should have the crackling outside and melt in your mouth middle. This was rubbery on the outside, though the meat was cooked well. They need to sear the skin before it goes in the oven.
Sides were great. Personal preference is that sides should be standard flavour. I wasn't a fan of their jalapeño corn bread. Flavour profile was off, and it was tray baked without the benefits of tray bake (too dry and not risen enough).
Staff were fantastic, really made us feel welcome. Will definitely visit again, though will try other dishes.
EDIT: Sorry for being so inconsiderate. I wish you'd have joined in our conversation to educate me, and us, on the distinct differences as you'd heard our conversation. Happy to change my opinions when I'm offered facts =]
D. H.
Outstanding ! Wow If you love bbq like me then this is THE place to come Best brisket I’ve ever had abs the sides are craaaaaaazy delicious Great value too
e. e.
Texas Joe's is one of my favourite restaurants in London. Their brisket tastes amazing, perfect balance of smokey soft meant, sweetness form the BBQ sauce, and zing from coleslaw side salad. The fries they do go really well with it, and they are extra crispy due to their special L shape. Loved the massive beef rib on the bone too when it was available, even though if the consistency was less predictable compared to the brisket. Please bring the beef rib back!! My only complaint is that some times the Deliveroo radius they deliver to changes, and so they only occasionally deliver to my place which is sad. Keep up the great work, you are adding something unique to the London culinary landscape.
A. E.
I’m an American and I’ve never had bbq this good. Mac and cheese reminded me of the local one I used to get as a kid. The Chilly cheese fries were insanely rich and delicious. Brisket and ribs had the best dry rub seasoning and were smoked to perfection!
Everyone was really nice and I can’t wait to go back !
S. H.
This place is great. Small but homely with some of the best slow cooked meat in London. Super flavoursome, really soft to pull apart. Prices are good, staff attentive and welcoming. Definitely recommend
R. G.
Great customer service, really big portions. I wasn't to happy about the taste of the brisket. I've always seen it on TV and wanted to try, it feels like the flavours were very muted. Everything else was good, the chips were really nice and crispy, nice Mac & cheese, the bone marrow was a bit was ok. I'd definitely try again, maybe I was just going on an off day.
M. P.
Absolutely frickin' amazing. Good food. Good booze. Food staff. Will go again.
S.
We were looking for somewhere a bit different to eat and we found exactly what we wanted. Slightly off the beaten track but really worth a visit. We were given a warm welcome, the food was mouth-wateringly delicious and served by attentive but not over-baring staff.
We ordered the pork belly ribs and the brisket. We shared two sides. We love our food and neither of us were able to eat everything. It was so filling but so good. The authentic smoking was evident in every bite. Absolutely loved this place and will be recommending to friends. What a great find. We will be back. We bought a pack of jerky home to try so we have a little treat still to look forward to.
J. E.
Really good rusticated decor, quirky and interesting. Great atmosphere, friendly vibe.
Food is really good, probably the best BBQ meat I have had in London.
Portions are great, If you leave here hungry, give your head a wobble.
Would recommend, would eat here again if I could find an excuse!
J.
Real Texas bbq in London! Continues to deliver year after year. Melt in your mouth brisket. Good cocktail and beer selection.
O. A.
Food and service is good but they can do with more items on their menu
B. L.
The team here (and at their previous pop ups before having this site) have been the only reliably excellent slow smoked meats place in London since the demise of Pitt Cue in Soho. …
N. S.
Amazing - both the meat joint and the ramen bar next door
J. Y.
Fabulous service and even better food. Highly recommended.
N. M.
Definitely the best bbq in London. The shortrib is unreal.
S. H.
This place is great. Small but homely with some of the best slow cooked meat in London. Super flavoursome, really soft to pull apart. Prices are good, staff attentive and welcoming. Definitely recommend
S. G.
Really good American style BBQ. Brisket was awesome
J. M.
This is THE place in London for authentic Texas smoked meat. The chicken wing starters are exceptional value, the brisket shows they know what they are doing and pork (ribs) are solid. Good value, good service and superb meaty loveliness. Happy days
J. F.
Tremendous, authentic BBQ. Ribs were outstanding! 🤩
M. H.
I enjoyed an evening meal here. The fare is quite typical American BBQ type of food, but it is well prepared and the specials are interesting. The building is tiny, I had to request another diner stand up to let me out when we finished our meal, but the service was great and the food was nice. The prices were quite high, but for a location near London Bridge, that's often to be expected. Would definitely visit again.
T. N.
Can't miss the smell coming from this place as you walk away from London Bridge station. It's divine. Place is quite cosy with an open kitchen where you can see the magic happen.
Ordered nachos to share and was a bit disappointed after paying £6 for 8 tortillas with topping on them. Not quite what we expected. Ate the beef brisket sandwich which was delicious, loved the sauce and pickles and the fries were super crispy. Mac and cheese was a very good portion size but felt it lacked flavour/seasoning. Eaten much better Mac and cheese at similar restaurants.
Staff are friendly and service was very good. Would recommend a visit but not the nachos or Mac and cheese.
E. B.
Real Texas BBQ anywhere in the UK is rare, and this is really good! Try the brisket and the chilli mac.
J. C.
As an amateur smoker myself, I like to try different barbecue joints and Texas Joe's is top notch. Having tried the brisket, the pork belly and the chicken wings I now can't wait to go back and try the rest! Service was quick, portions were generous and it had a great vibe inside. Highly recommended to meat lovers.
S. M.
Very tasty barbecue meats, i think the quality is high and the price is reasonable. Compared to Bodeans, this is a much better restaurant.
Brisket, pork belly and ribs are must have dishes. My favourite being the Brisket.
Sides to order would be Mac n Cheese and fries.
Great cocktails!
I ordered the brisket nachos once but it was a bit messy and too filling.
S. C.
Amazing food and I'm so glad they have root beer!
F. H.
Been twice now and the brisket is very average to be honest you can find much better in London, Smokestack *cough*. The pork ribs aren't bad but the best thing on the menu is the Mac and cheese, probably the best I've had.
I've edited this to 4* because on reflection everyone was full and satisfied. But the brisket is dry and had no bark to speak of maybe look at the quality control.
P. R.
We have a great time but the meat was dry is a shame beacuse we been there before and the brisket was great , margaritas is great but I wasn't there for the margaritas ,I really want a beautiful brisket and I didn't have it .
R. R.
Have eaten here twice now and had excellent meals both times. The food is awesome, the chicken wings are big and tasty, mutton ribs had lots of flavour, coleslaw and brisket chilli was good too and the chips. Although could do without the white bread alongside the mains, chips would be better. All big portions which makes for great value. Nice cocktails and desserts too and the staff are incredibly attentive and friendly!
M. G.
Top contender for the best brisket in London. Excellent service as well.
S. C.
The beef brisket was so delicious and tender, I would totally recommend it.
I found the sauce in the sweet potatoes too spicy, which destroys a bit the flavour of the rest of the meal.
Also the portion size of the sides is really big which is not suitable for one person, but it doesn't say anything in the menu, this is just a tip for anyone reading the reviews.
K. C.
As someone who was born and raised in Texas and used to cook on a competitive barbecue team with my father, I can confirm that this is the best and most authentic Texas barbecue in London. I've been several times and most recently visited for my birthday and was - as always - overjoyed with both the food and service. I've seen several complaints in reviews about the white bread on the side, so I would like to clarify that it's a staple item on all barbecue platters in Texas - typically used to either make a sandwich with the brisket or sop up some precious meat juice. The brisket, beef short ribs, pulled pork, jalapeno poppers, bone marrow, chili, and Frito pie are all an absolute delight, as are any of their cocktails (though I highly recommend the coconut margarita). As a Texpat living in London, it's such a joy to have a place that manages to taste and smell like my childhood!
D. B.
If you are looking for great Texan style meat, you are at the right place. Whether you are after their traditional brisket or some chicken, you won't be disappointed. Try out their bone marrow and the brisket tacos, D E L I C I O U S! Also they do amazing margaritas. The staff is really cool and efficient. One thing, you will smell of smoked meat when leaving so plan for a hair wash that evening!
D. H.
Wow, what a place to stumble on. Loved it. After wasting evenings watching diners, drive ins and dives, or man vs food, then stumbled across this place and I wondered what all the fuss is about slow cooked brisket and ribs. We had both, they were both lush, so tasty, and falling off the bone. Nice pickles and slaw but don’t get the piece of value white bread served. Overall highly recommend
A. K.
The beef short rib was super moist and delicious. Unfortunately, the other meat we had (pork shoulder, mutton shoulder and brisket) on this occasion was pretty dry and disappointing. All of our sides and cocktails were delicious but overall when you come to a BBQ you expect all of the meat to be on point...
A. R.
Awesome place...really friendly staff, great food and very authentic. Owned and run by a native Texan and it shows, proper pit BBQ experience! They serve the best root beer and corn bread I’ve ever had!
P. I.
The brisket was absolutely incredible, I’d recommend this place to anyone that like bbq food
S. Z.
Really good brisket, ribs, pork belly - everything!
N. P.
There were some excellent elements to our meal but they fell short on a couple of aspects to make it exceptional.
The highlights were pork ribs, mutton shoulder and mac & cheese, all 3 were brilliant and plenty of meat.
The brisket was fine but not as good as the three above.
Our portion of pork shoulder was dry and over smoked, the bark was so bitter it was inedible. The slice of white bread served with each tray was stale and the portion of coleslaw was so small it felt a bit mean. Given that we made it very clear that we were sharing our meals I would have liked the staff to have served enough sauces so that we didn't have to share the same pot for each dish. We were able to request more but it took some time to arrive given that they were busy during which our food is going cold.
E. B.
In my experience US style BBQ places in London tend to be a bit disappointing but Texas Joe's is the real deal. The meat is all incredible and there is a really good atmosphere about the place. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the mac and cheese but I think that was more down to personal preference than the authenticity of it. If you love meat then you gotta check this place out!
P. P.
A very different ramen. Think broth and bbq style meat. Tastes amazing but puts you in a food comma.
R. T.
We were in London visiting from the US a couple months ago. After touring the HMS Belfast we walked to this place. Lunch was awesome. I'm a meathead and smoke meats at home, and this place hit the spot for all of us. My facorite part was the coleslaw. I hate coleslaw. This stuff didn't have any mayo, so it was a departure from your standard slaw. I keep thinking about it every time I'm smoking meats. My wife even found a recipe that was similar to it, but not quite as good.
Great food!
D. J.
This place is so expensive £8 for chicken wings. £22 for brisket at a hamburger joint. The portions are not big either, not like the prices
H. M.
I'm not a big lover of meat and was a bit skeptical when my friends wanted to go here, but the food is incredibly tasty. The menu is small but everything is cooked (smoked) to perfection and is really tender and flavourful. We had three main meat dishes and 3 sides between 5 of us and it was more than enough food. The service was great and the final bill was reasonable. Note that this restaurant is not suitable for vegetarians.
M. B.
Nice atmosphere with smell of fire wood. Good portions, ribs little bit too spicy does not allow excel taste of meat. Maybe there should be more bread, cant evaluate taste of coleslaw in Texas, but in Europe it is something complete different. Helpful stuff, good choice of drinks.
G. D.
Lunch on Friday was superb. Good honest food at a fair price made to perfection.
I had the brisket my friend had the pork ribs they were both succulent, tender, smokey and wonderful. The stuffed jalapeños were yummy. Good portions served with good local beer, friendly service and soul.
Not "fine dining" just good ol' southern hospitality and excellent food served simply in no-nonsense and effective surroundings by a friendly staff all at a reasonable price. I've not tasted better since I was in a rib-shack in Austin, TX.
R. F.
Bbq brisket and margaritas was nice. Not too expensive but not not standout either. Good option if you're in the area
D. A.
I was recommended thsi restaurant by an American colleague a couple of years ago but have only just had the opportunity to visit. Having travelled a fair amount accross the states I'll admit its very hard to find decent brisket in the UK, Texas Joe's makes a very good attempt but sadly doesn't quite deliver. The brisket we had today tasted good, yet the meat was still quite tough.
The staff were OK, we sat down after asking if we could sit outside and it took quite a while before we were asked for our order, and I honestly felt a lot of the simple pleasantries were missing. Drinks arrived after our food and we werent asked if we wanted another, with 3 or 4 staff on and only 10 customers, a bit more effort wouldn't have taken much.
If you visit I cannot recommend the cheesy fries, they were to die for
C. G.
Authentic, reasonably priced and excellent service. Go hungry!
A. P.
As a Texan, this is a taste of home especially the top notch brisket! Great staff as well
C. P.
Oh my goodness, brisket was amazing. And great relaxed informal place, with good beers. Upping to 5 stars due to comments from owners about Reds. I'm from Nottingham where Reds True BBQ shows all the competition what 5 stars is all about but would love to see a meat-off one day. Yee-haw bring it on :-)
M. R.
A very good BBQ restaurant near London Bridge/More London place. A little bit off the beaten path but worth the short walk if you're in the area.
Pretty small restaurant but they have quite a few tables and I think they do takeout as well.
They do lots of different types of barbecue meats including pork ribs, beef ribs and brisket. I tried them all and they were all tasty but if I had to pick I would say that the pork ribs were the best. Extremely soft melt in your mouth texture with a great BBQ flavour.
Good selection of craft lagers and ales if you're thirsty.
M. D.
Went there with a group at Lunchtime, a bit disappointed with the quantity of meat. Also half a slice of white Sunblest type bread wasn't what I would expect as an accompaniment to a Texan BBQ, that was very poor I thought.
Serving staff were pleasant and helpful and moved us from a very drafty table by the door.
G. P.
Feels just like Texas! ❤️
- tried beef brisket and coconut margarita, will go again for the tacos and regular margarita!
D. T.
I enjoyed the food here, portions big too.
J. H.
Great brisket; amazingly tender and properly melts in the mouth. I also ordered a side of chili fries, which was an entire meal-sized portion by itself. The photos make the portion sizes look smaller than they are because the plates/trays are quite large. A fantastic selection of beers as well. I would definitely return.
J. S.
I have eaten at this restaurant three times and every time the food has been amazing. I have had the brisket, the short rib and the mutton which cannot be faulted. However, the service has been sub par all three times and the latest time we were ignored in favour of a large party. I can understand when it gets busy it may become hard to juggle, but I ordered a beer that never came, had to ask 2 separate servers for the bill at the end of the meal and just generally felt like a nuisance to waiting staff. This is putting me off of returning.
UPDATE: After going back and trying the restaurant again on Friday we found a marked improvement in the customer service and the food was great as well. Happy to amend to five stars to reflect the improvement in the restaurant.
G. C.
Quality was superb! Could not ask for better. Restaurant was basic in design, but the ability to view the kitchen more than makes up for that. Would more than happily recommend if you like this type of cuisine
A. W.
Wow!!!Just wow!!! Look no further for the best beef brisket, ribs and smoked wings in the UK and Europe. Killer margaritas and great service :-)
J. C.
Delicious brisket and bone marrow. So much juice and flavour. Come on an empty stomach and leave satisfied!
K. S.
They must have deleted my review from last year. I only had the ribs and they were English cut, so there was a lot fat, Chips were good. If you are an American don't expect Texas or St Louis cut ribs.
S. L.
Awesome food - can highly recommend the brisket nachos and pork belly - both absolutely divine! I also love the fact this place is dog friendly. Service was fast, but maybe a little too fast which is why I have downgraded a star. No sooner had I put the last mouthful in, our bill was on the table sending us the hint they were ready for us to move on. Still both had full drinks. Would've been nice to have had a bit more time to let our food digest before we were made to feel we had to leave.
J. V.
We had a lovely time and the food was amazing. Totally going back soon.u
The steak with bone marrow mash was superb.
A. S.
A bit out of the way from the station. Quite quiet, but service was good, foot was tasty and generous portions, a big basket of chips or sweet potato fries. I had the brisket and it melted in my mouth, such good quality. It came with slaw and picked Ted onion, which I'm not a fan of, But my partner said they were very fresh. Overall very tasty
G. L.
Good food. Opted for Beef Brisket which was lovely and tender, although a bit on the salty side. Bbq sauce helped to mask that saltiness though. Had a good table (bearing in mind the small aspect of the restaurant) but was cold due to the ceiling fans.
An enjoyable, relaxing experience and good food.
l. c.
The Food was tasty. Nice smokey meat and make sure you save space before you go because the portions are generous to say the least. My one gripe with the meal was how vinegary the coleslaw was. A large fork-full of the stuff will have your eyes squinting like you downed a cup of lemon juice. The service wasn't bad but was not great either, but I don't need to grill the overall experience. If texas Joe's perfects the hosting and service experience then they're on to something and I will be a regular!
S. L.
The atmosphere is great, interior is quirky and the staff are super friendly and attentive. The food, however, is underwhelming. The meat is well cooked through but has no flavour other than smokiness and saltiness. How can pork ribs and chicken wing taste exactly the same?
C. “. f. y. t. D.
Smokin!
J. T.
One of my favorite places to go for lunch on the weekdays. Tasty food, nice smokiness to the meat. Shares its kitchen with a ramen store, so you can also choose this instead.
Food portion sizes aren't always consistent, most of the time it's really generous, sometimes it looks slightly small. Might depend on the meat delivered that day.
S.
What, Texas BBQ in England? Heaven forfend. Business associate and I went there as a novelty thinking there is no way this is any good. Shockingly, as good or better than many of the places I've come across at home. Well done y'all, well done. Maybe update the music to actual southern US country instead of the jazzy euro music, I mean if you're wanting to get truly authentic experience. But, yeah, great stuff. Well worth it! Easy walk from nearby Marriott Residence Inn, and just off from the Tower Bridge.
I. P.
Fantastic piece of Texas in London. Great food and atmosphere
J. V. M.
One of the most delicious BBQ restaurant I have ever been to. Slow cooked, smoked meats at a very competitive price in a very cosy venue. A must try if you are close (or a good reason to go to the area). Don't forget to try it's smoked brisket!
D.
Went here for a meal after work with a friend. We both had brisket, shared some sides and we had the pecan pie for dessert.
It was very good and the service was fast. If you like Brisket definitely go!
J. O.
Lovely little place tucked down a side street. Full on Americana (or rather, Texicana) experience - but this is not gimmicky place. The food is delicious with a great choice of meats, with burgers and traditional slow cooked bbq. Good size portions, and great drinks selection. Service also friendly and accommodating. A great place for a relaxed lunch or dinner.
P. M.
Authentic and delicious Texan-style smoked meat. Very popular and quite often crowded but well worth it for the soft, smoky, melt in your mouth brisket. Good selection of beers and lagers available as well. If you're a fan of genuine American BBQ then you should check this place out.
C. S.
Absolutely delicious food. The specials are great! Friendly staff and very informal and lively ambiance. Great cocktails and local beers. The small bar is very charming and you can sit outside in summer. Good for a relaxed dinner or lunch. The meet comes from local British farms and it's all free range. So a massive plus for a barbecue restaurant!
J. B.
I'm not usually a fan of BBQ foods and had previously been scarred by the likes of Bodeans who smother cheap reheated meat in sticky bbq sauce, but this place was the real deal it has a proper smoker and all the the meat looked amazing.
Pork belly and brisket we had were great and the staff were really friendly.
I know it's not a kids restaurant but I was suprised there was no kids menu in the daytime even if it's a case of doing a half portion.
Next time we want to try the noodles next door as the bar looked really cool.
K. K.
We felt not welcome as soon as we walked in. We arrived at 21:05 without a reservation. The place was busy and we expected we’d have to wait for a table. The guy managing the tables told us the wait would be an hour (!) due to ‘lots of people waiting at the bar’ and other ‘reservations’. We chose to wait at the bar not because we would have waited for an hour but a few tables were leaving at that time and we felt the wait would be less than what we were told. At the bar there was noone waiting apart from another couple and we were sat within 10 mins. When we sat down, there were 3-4 empty tables and everyone who arrived after us, got a table straight away. I’m not sure why anyone should tell such obvious lies to customers, we chose to spend our money at this place on Friday evening and making us feel as though you would have prefered it if we left was not nice. Our table was by the window and the door and with the temperature being 4 degrees outside, you could feel the cold. I ate with my jacket on. The table next to us had to raise the issue with the waitress who said there was a problem with the window next to the door not shutting properly. She said this has been known for a while and apologised that it hadn’t been dealt with.
We got the beef ribs and pork shoulder. The meat was nice, soft and smokey, the best BBQ we’ve had in London. I didn’t enjoy my BBQ sauce - felt a bit too sour (?too much vinegar/lemon), but the meat was so flavoursome that having it with no sauce was not an issue! Chips were perfectly cooked. Cocktails were nice too. Overall: nice food but not a nice restaurant experience, would probably not come back

Probably the best BBQ chicken I've ever had, and I've spent a lot of time in the States. First piece was more succulent than second but both utterly delicious. Crispy skin too. Creamy Coleslaw and sharp pickles and an enormous side of slightly spicy oozy Mac and cheese. All washed down with a Californian Chardonnay. Tremendous. Get down there!!!

One of my favorite places to grab something to eat. convenient location, clean, and awesome customer service. I highly recommend them!

Popped in late Sunday night to try some smoked meats. As a Texan myself, I had no expectations. However, the meats were amazing! Had the brisket and the pork ribs! Brisket was as good as any I've had in Texas, packed full of flavour and juicy, the ribs were also delicious. We also tried the mac n cheese, which was also good, although not a patch on the brisket. And they have Lone Star beer for a true taste of home!!

Ate here recently, and found it hit and miss. The ribs were delicious, as was the Mac n Cheese, the pickles were also beautifully flavoured, as were the bacon-wrapped jalapenos. However, the brisket was diabolical. Dry, overcooked, tough, no flavour. It was honestly as if whoever cooked it hadn't cooked a brisket before, which is OK if you are an individual, not when you're a BBQ restaurant. On that note - the place is called Texas Joe's - a Texan BBQ joint, whether authentic or inspired, should be able to cook a packer Brisket - it was just awful. It hadn't been cooked long enough to properly tenderise, and there was barely any visible smoke ring. The brisket is one of the main meals they serve, and for it to be as bad as it was, and for them to also be comfortable charging for and serving it, I was honestly really disappointed.
They also do a more expensive short rib, which tasted better, but I was still left a bit underwhelmed. It had been heavily over-seasoned, so the salt was the first thing you tasted, followed by an overpowering richness of beef - it just didn't taste as good as I hoped. I cook a lot of shortrib at home, and seasoning is crucial for this meat, it's really easy to overdo it.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very, very nice. It's run down in a nice chic way, and it feels cosy and intimate, although the tables are way too small for two people who're both ordering food. You find yourself playing tetris with your drinks and trays. It was a bit annoying. The staff were really lovely, the guy who served us was superb.
Overall it was OK, but I probably wouldn't return, I get the feeling it's seen its best days.

A very tasty and considering its location quiet eat. The food is top notch and has never disappointed on the three occasions I've been with various parties. It does get busy but never enough to ruin your service or meal. Has outside seating as well as cosy indoor tables and either way has an aroma of slow cooked meats to die for. We have always got a brisket meal and then added corn bread and chilli cheese fries and found it plenty for 2 piggy people. Drinks again are nice and they do a decent cocktail. My only obvious negative comment would be it's price which is on the higher side but due to its location and quality can easily be forgiven. Save up get hungry and make sure you munch here.

The brisket is good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the cornbread (too cheesy and a bit dry), the pork shoulder (a bit dry) and the bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapenos. Sauces delish! Local beers on tap. Good service and outdoor seating. Others I know like it better than I did, so maybe it's just my Texas background making me too picky, or I've forgotten what BBQ tastes like.
Just saw your response (23/12/16), Joe, thanks for it! Appreciate the time you took to acknowledge and respond.

Loved the waitress there. Helpful and friendly.
Drink was awesome.
Beef was a Lil dry may be just that time of night.
And sauce was actually very Lil. Would have loved a sauce Lil more. And was expecting beef a Lil more moist and juicy.
So 4 stars

Authentic Texas BBQ (highly recommend the mutton shoulder) with great country tracks adding to the vibe. I also appreciated the service of the well mannered staff who were attentive to the needs of my family (4 year old and a baby). We look forward to coming back soon.

Best BBQ in London bar none! And this is coming from a Texan! Huge portions, quick and friendly service (though we went on a Sunday when there might not be as many people as there are during the week) , great prices for London considering how much food you get, and the brisket was to die for!! Disappointed that they’d run out of fritos for the Frito pie and stuffed jalapeños as those were both what we were looking forward to being homesick for Texas food but definitely coming back since everything else was spot on! 👌👌can’t recommend this place enough ! Not one to write reviews normally (this is the first time I’ve done so) but felt compelled to by the quality of the food and service

Really good. Food was some of the best smoked American food I’ve had in London. Just a little let down by the standard of the draft beer. Would fully recommend and will definitely go back!

Went on Thurs evening with 2 friends, great food and atmosphere! would recommend if you enjoy good quality meat (beware they serve large portions if you not on the hungry side). we also had the apple pie to fish it off between us which was very good

I went here as I travelled to the Emirates for a match. This place is twinned with the Horatia pub. Upon seeing a doorway into the shop I realised it was probably quicker to get served directly than in the pub.
Joe was away in LA shooting a film (had previously been an actor). I know all this due to the friendly American server. Great service in here. Proper Texan style love. And that brisket! WOW. I had the trinity burger which had brisket, pulled pork and sausage. Was fantastic. And great sauce too. You’ll see the smoker in the shop too. Just a great find. More people need to know about this affordable great BBQ in a hidden part of North London.

The food was OK but much too rich without any respite from other flavours. While the beef brisket was juicy, both the pork ribs and the chicken were quite dry. We also waited a very long time to be seated, served and even pay the bill.

The food was quite cold and there wasn't a huge amount. We got the beef brisket and pork ribs, which were both delicious! The coleslaw wasn't great, it was pickled shredded cabbage and carrot with no mayo. And the two slices of thin white bread seemed like a shoddy side. The meat, atmosphere and staff were all great though.

The brisket sandwich is the best thing on the menu, tender, slow cooked, smoky beef, slathered in BBQ sauce and enclosed in a rich brioche bun. If you aren't a fan of beef, the chicken sandwich or taco has a Mexican feel, with tangy salsa and peppery sauce. The sides live up to the mains, with moreish fries, shaped to scoop up plenty of scrumptious chipolte mayo or oozing macaroni cheese, and even buttery cornbread. Make sure you go on an empty stomach, as you will definitely leave with a full one!

Definitely the best bbq in London. The shortrib is unreal.

Brilliant BBQ, great portion sizes, decent price, good service and well socially distanced.
Would recommend fully loaded fries as a side, though definitely one for sharing.

If you like BBQ, this is the place for you! I was told about this place through a friend. And seeing as I'm from Texas, I had to try it! It does not disappoint! The beef brisquet is the bomb! It just melts in your mouth! I went there today for the 2nd time and ordered the brisquet again. I was served a piece that was pretty fatty- I told them and they switched it out for me, no questions asked! Good customer service.
The mac and cheese and cornbread are so yum too!
Do yourself a favor and eat here- over and over again!
I'll be back🥰

Great Restaurant, Chicken wings were absolutely incredible the flavour was unreal, The fries were 2nd to none hands down some of the best fries I've ever tasted. The Cornbread took me a while to get use too but i ended up finding it really tasty.

The best bbq ever had in london💪

Great food! Good portions and proper smoked bbq. Their special sauces are a must, dip your preferred meat or chicken and you'll see the difference! Very friendly staff too.
Only point is that it was bloody cold inside. We were sitting with your jackets and still it was freezing! But the food compensated us

Very nice and friendly atmosphere and the food was truly exceptional. Will definitely visit again if in the neighborhood.

Very authentic Texas barbecue right here in London. The brisket was excellent. I was a little surprised that only half a slice of bread and two thick slices of pickles were delivered to the table (given how authentic the bbq was I expected a small stack of bread and a pile of pickles), but it didn't matter. The meat was the star of the show. I, and the Texans I took with me, were extremely satisfied. 100% going to be going back here. (we were told about this place by Jake La Botz who spoke highly of it - he was right!)
