Reviews of The Genet Cafe - Ethiopian Restaurant
p. j.
Just back from this temple of Ethiopian cuisine in London
Really well impressed with the authentic vibe. The place has people from different horizons sharing meals.
The family is just so warm and the food so delicious
I loved having the common big plate to share with all
The lamb was yummy and the spices experrly fused
Great evening with friends
First time but definitely not my last time

One of the best food experiences I’ve ever had.
This place proves you don’t need Michelin stars, 8 course taster menus and a sommelier to be a great restaurant.
I had a platter of different items (vegan) which were all super tasty. Mixed veg, lentils, chickpeas, flat fermented bread. All divine.
The vibe is chilled out. There was incense burning when I visited and Ethiopian music/dance on the TV.
After the meal we had green coffee beans roasted in front of us and a fresh pot of coffee served up.
If you’re vegan or veggie you’ll love it here.

Simply delicious! A gem in the heart of Tottenham. Friendly service, really cosy environment, and probably the best Ethiopian I've ever had.

When I read on the Google reviews that this was the best Ethiopian food in London I thought: "wow, that's a big statement..." but surprisingly the food in this place was definitely one of the best Ethiopian I've ever had! ...and I've tried several Ethiopian restaurants in London... The food is so flavoursome, and the presentation is just beautiful and colorful! Even if you're not vegetarian, give a try to their wonderful vegetarian platter which comes with many different stews arranged so beautifully in the injera pancake!

Public aren't my usual thing but when it comes to the best food I've ever eaten in a restaurant then it'd be rude not to share 😋. By recommendation we happened upon this unassuming Ethiopian place run by the chef and her husband who were gentlest loveliest people who somehow managed to pass on some sort of arcane wisdom through the medium of the tastiest, cleanest, inexplicably delicious and stratospherically gorgeous OK shut up Dan.
1) It's called Genet Restaurant.
2) It's at 4 Victoria rd, Seven Sisters
3) Go there
4) The vegetarian buffet thing for two. Yes.

This place is absolutely FANTASTIC.
Great food in a friendly, welcoming, home environment.
Prices are good, it's going to be a staple of mine from now on

Beautiful food and really friendly staff! The lady who served us gave us free coffees and let us try some fresh bread. I would eat here again 100% , the flavours are incredible !

Superb. Really friendly and what feels like authentic, home cooked Ethiopian food. Incredibly good value.

I love the food and friendly atmosphere there. It's always top quality food, authentic Ethiopian. They have a great cardamon tea, too!

Great Ethiopian food I had the vegetarian selection. You can get it for 2 or 3 people, the menu says extra people +£8 but the server said no so with five of us we got one plate for 3 and one for 2. So much food!
A.
Home made food! I wanted to order it online via Just-It but they don’t deliver to my area. So I drove there🙂 The portions are very generous and the food is simply delicious!
I’m a huge fan of food and I tried 4 different Ethiopian restaurants in London. Hands down - this one is on top. I’m coming back for more on a weekly basis now.

Back of Genet! Mild-mannered and low key hosting put us at ease in a modest setting the moment we sat down. Two of us are vegan and the third an omni and we opted for #3 for 3 people. Decent portions of seven varieties arrived on a generously sized sharing plate lined with injera [bread] which also included four individual rolled injera. I am a pie and always want Asian sized portions so I was delighted with the size of our order, even shared between three! But what is quantity without quality? Rest assured; the chef at The Genet has you covered, delivering wonderfully well-balanced flavours, beautifully seasoned, and although some varieties looked similar and shared some vegetable ingredients, they all tasted different with each offering something to please. This is not my part of town but well worth the trip. Exceptionally good food and the best Ethiopian I've had in a good while! Please keep doing what you're doing - I will be back!!
C. G.
Have always ordered the vegetarian platter here and it is fantastic! Yesterday we ordered takeaway and it was ready quickly and tasted just as lovely as always, and was not overpackaged either. I now compare all Ethiopian food that I eat to Genet's.

There was a large group of us and the platters that we ordered were even larger! Everyone loved the uniqueness of the food, with loads of flavours and of course that special Ethiopian bread to soak it all up with. The staff were attentive and went out of their way to help us. Very friendly and a definite one to revisit. Amazing low prices as well.

This restaurant is just A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. It is unassuming and the focus is on the quality of the food delivered. The flavours are sensational, the staff are just so kind and lovely. I love the atmosphere...I felt I was part of a family. The other guests were also really laid back and were having a good time as well. We had the veggie plate for two....we couldn't walk straight after this feast...we were so full but content! :) Thank you so much for this experience, we will be back soon, keep up the good work, you guys are running this little gem the right way!

Impeccable food, lovely service. You won't be disappointed

I am obsessed with this place!!!! I've been with a couple of groups of friends on different occasions and everyone has loved it. Now my friends head there on their own regularly. This is by far the best Ethiopian I've ever had in my life. By far the best in London. My favourite is the vege shared dishes on the pancake. Please go here. You wont regret it.

Totally agree with the other reviews here. Our 1st try of Ethiopian cuisine and we couldn't stop eating! With my partner, we usually share a good conversation and alcohol with dinner. Not here .... we were both just focused on the food!
A definite must-try!
J. A.
Best Ethiopian I've had so far (it's probably better in Ethiopia, I guess). The serving was massive, it's great value for money too. And somehow quite a quaint location even though it's at the base of a huge block of flats. Chef and the waiter were very nice.

I found this place on Google and decided to give it a go because of the excellent reviews. A very nice lady greeted my dad and I and made us feel welcome. We had no idea what to order; we'd never had Ethiopian food before. We asked for a meat dish and a vegetable dish. The food was cooked fresh but served pretty quickly. It tasted delicious and contained a variety of really interesting flavours. On top of that we were absolutely stuffed and for less than £15 (including drinks). I will definitely be going back soon. This place is an absolute gem.

Hard to find little gem at the bottom of a housing block, serving Ethiopean/eritrean food.
So just to be aware, service is a little slow, but this is more than made up for by the very accommodating prices, and the BYOB policy (no corkage!). I would go for one of the larger meat or vegetarian platters (think I have asked for both on the same injeera!) as they give you a great introduction to this place. Highly recommended!

I had one of my best restaurant experience in a while. Food and staff are amazing and brought back memories of when I lived in Ethiopia. The beyaynetu and shiro are really beautiful and possible the best Ethiopian dishes I have had in London. I ended up having a chat with the owners about Ethiopia, which were really nice too. I can't wait to go back!
C. D.
Lovely homey experience of Africa. Mama's cooking, early evening, kids doing their homework and serving drinks. (Its bring your own if you want alcohol) Large TV quietly showing an Ethiopian sermon then some traditional love songs and dance. Friendly banter with mama. Food is very good, a selection of small veg, meat and lentil dishes to be wrapped in a kind of pancake and shared. It really fills you up. This place is one of the cool authentic things about living in multicultural Tottenham, which I hope survives after the developers have brought in the yuppies. Very reasonably priced too. More an evening place than lunchtime. Takeaways encouraged but you have to pick up yourself.

Very delicious doro wote, as my first Ethiopian dish try out it was good, quantity and price worthy and the owner Ma'Sha'Allah very nice

This place made my Sunday. The lady who runs it knows what she's doing - mind-blowing food, cozy ambiance, tasty coffee, and a genuinely welcoming smile.
Y. A.
Great food, great people, great atmosphere, loved the Ethiopian bread and coffee, thanks!
C. F.
Beautiful food, perfect for groups of friends. It will charm your heart to eat here as everything is lovingly handmade. Get the sharing plates and beware - the portions are HUGE. Also loads of fun as you can eat with your hands!
H. G.
Great little place... came in to see if they did takeaway and asked what they would recommend for two people. Friendly service, quickly prepared and most importantly tasty too! Will come back and dine in for sure.
S. K.
Delicious!!! I know my Ethiopian food very well and this is up there, in the most unassuming part of the city, it deserves all the credit. Highly recommend it.
y.
An unassuming place serving wonderfully tasty food. The owner lady roasts her own Ethiopian coffee beans on the spot (with a pan on coal) and does a coffee ceremony for you if it’s not too busy.
C.
Delicious, affordable, delicious, healthy, clean, cosy and BYOB. Had the sharers veggie platter twice and tried the lamb today which was also to die for. Lovely friendly staff aswell will definitely be coming back again!
F. E.
The coffee, the food, the people - absolutely 5 star + in every aspect. Best place for vegans and lovers of authentic, natural, healthy food. The owner is the most amazing, loving, giving person and we visit this place at least few times a month!
W. Y. L.
The food here is so good. I usually like to drink alcohol with a meal, but here you don't need to because the food makes you high during and after - the taste is that good. You have to eat it to believe it. Really amazing.
k. F.
