Nothing special, but inevitable if visiting the British Museum for the day - this is the Great Court Restaurant at the British Museum. This was one of a few options, if we wanted to safe time for visiting the British Museum instead of wondering around the quarter to look for a decent restaurant. There are huge queues at lunch time, so better make a reservation beforehand.Service is relatively fast, even during the most visited hours, but food is nothing special, and is not as cheep as its quality would suggest. Nevertheless, - a good choice to rest for an hour after - and before - walking around the millions of artifacts inside the museum.

The Great Court Restaurant at the British Museum is a "go-to" for tourists, locals and people from all over the world. The restaurant serves a fresh, seasonal menu that changes daily providing your dining experience with plenty of exciting dishes. It has become known as one of the best restaurants in London for fish and fish dishes.

NOTE: I bought the “two courses for £15.50” Group-On, so the review is based on that price alone.
The lamb was tender, bordelaise sauce was great and the ice tea (drink, not part of the lamb dish) was refreshing.
The decor of the place (the British Museum) was beautiful. Large stone walls, curves and quaint tables. Would recommend eating here, especially for the Group-On price.

Went to the British museum for high tea. Fairly easy to get a reservation and was decent. We had a glass of bubbly and had a good selection of scones, sandwiches and sweets. The tea was also very good. The only downside is they will kick you out when the museum is about to close. So give your self time.

Been here for the third time and from the appetiser down to its desserts, it never failed my tastebuds. Great customer service and chastely perfect tablewares.

Do better, British Museum. For your customers. For British food. Please
Great location in a fantastic space. Shame the food was substandard and awful value for money. I don't have an issue paying £6.50 for a starter while enjoying a lovely day out with my friends. However barely five slithers of aubergine, blandly seasoned, burnt (seriously, I consider myself a fantastic cook and this tasted charred and I was picking carcinogenic back bits off), plated like someone was having a bad day is just so disappointing. The gnocchi mains we shared was ok but one could find better off in an oven ready meal. The only 2 saving graces that brings this review to a grudging 3 stars were the carrot cake and the very sincere, polite, apologetic waiter. If it weren't for the fact I really wasn't up for any confrontation that day, the manager would have had a sturdy complaint from me.
Perhaps tea and cake here would be decent enough. Stay clear of the savouries in that case and go get a sandwich or salad from elsewhere.

Very good food for the price. The fish and chips was excellent, particularly the light crispy batter. I also quite enjoyed the coffee.

Not sure which restaurant other reviewers were at recently. Service was excellent, just made it before it filled up, friendly and attentive staff, really nice food. Constant refills of water jug. Nothing to fault

The best carrot cake we’ve ever had: nutty and fruity every bite. Perfect proportion of butter and sugar. Only complaint is, the dessert bar does not have any glass cloches to cover the cakes, which exposes them to the natural elements and the crowd that passes by the museum foyer every hour. There are even school kids who come so close to sneezing on the cakes :P

Delicious tea cakes and scones with an amazing atmosphere however service is a bit slow but was a nice experience.

Really nice staff and atmosphere. Food was good balance between fine dining and causal food a s quality was great. Table was a tad small.

A relaxing environment at one corner of a museum serving authentic Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant is a better option rather than the cafe in the Great Courtyard. The taste of food served is good. Loved it.
The service was nice except some delays during the peak lunch time.

Just fancied a light cream tea. Loved the atmosphere, good quality for money. Staff were very friendly, and we were surprised we didn't have to wait for a table! Would definitely come back!

Very good food and price considering this is in London and inside a major tourist attraction. I'm very confused with the negative reviews here. I have paid more for a simple hot dog at Disney land for example than a nice and somewhat refined dish at this location...

My husband and I discovered this amazing little gem while visiting the museum on a honeymoon/work trip. My husband ordered the fish and chips and I the gnocci; and were amazed at the quality!
The seafood was fresh, the food was hot. (my plate felt like it had been under the heating lamp for a bit BUT the food quality did not suffer)
I can't agree with others' experiences here; but our service was better than fair. The manager was circling the floor, the staff was quick, and only one our of the 4 people to check on us seemed as though their panty-hose were on too tight. :D
Eager to go again soon!

Very good meal, good service and a good glass of wine. Coffee reasonable

We had a really great weekend lunch here, arranged as a send off for a friend. As we were a fairly large group, we were offered one of the big tables in the corner of the dining area, which feels like it's on a sort of promontory overlooking the great court. It's quite secluded there, and we had plenty of space to spread out - a really lovely environment to have a meal in. The food was actually surprisingly good too, everybody agreed.
I'd happily recommend this as a destination in its own right, not just a place to dine if you happen to be in the museum anyway - but of course, once you're there, you might as well have a little stroll around a few of the exhibits anyway.

Despite some of the poor reviews, I’d say this was a pretty good museum restaurant. Seating and service was prompt. I complimented part of my meal and the chef came out to thank me. Prices were on the high side, but for not having to leave the museum only to come back, I’ll spend a bit more.

Beautiful setting. Service is well done except salad food preparation was way too slow for ingredients made in advance (chicken was cold, so not grilled on the spot). Would go back again for a glass of wine and salad after an exposition.

What a wonderful place to have lunch and the service was excellent from the moment we stepped in the restaurant. Even though it was a groupon deal we was not treated any differently, and was not rushed at all, will go again as the staff were excellent and food was on point for every course. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

Nice little cafe to get lunch while visiting the museum. Afternoon tea was nice here.

Had a very reasonably priced high tea at £19.50! Everything was great but I wish they'd let us know it was closing soon so we didn't have to rush and leave some of our snacks behind.
Otherwise, it was great!

If wasn't for the lamb, would give 3 stars. Food quality really good, waiter really nice, head of house not so much... Looks like she makes a very big effort to smile. PossiPos not repeating as meal not worth the price

Nice food and the staffs are very polite!

I booked a table on Saturday 22nd July to celibrate my Aunts 89th birthday after a visit to the Hokusai exhibition. We arrived an hour early BUT Manager Paul made it easy for us to be seated immediately at a comfortable table - together with a glass of champagne on the house for My Aunt Frances' birthday treat. Lunch organised & served by Elise was charming, attentive, inter-reactive, and DELICIOUS. We reccomend the Sirloin Steak with a glass of really good Merlot. The service for us was just perfect on this birthday lunch. But Elise also made time to sweetly help a young Chinese student. After lengthy consultations with a mobile phone translating app Elise patiently & kindly reccomended a main course. It became clear that the young Chinese girl was not really sure what she had ordered. But when it came she was absolutely thrilled.. All this under the careful watch of Paul the Manager. Superb setting, comfortable seats, really good food, but above all, kind & thoughtful & efficient & professional service. Lovely lovely lunch. Victoria Hancock

Located in the British Museum. The best thing is that it accepts reservations.
The service is relatively good, so we have to wait a long way. Food is a traditional British and is nothing special.

Really tastey food. Nice rabbit terrine and great fish and chips. Friendly staff and timely service. Bit pricey but the location is great.

You can sometimes avoid the crowds by slipping into this cafe on the first floor of the British Museum. Very nice coffee and luscious desserts.

(Translated) Very good option to be able to eat without having to leave the museum and then continue the visit with a considerable saving of time. Climbing the stairs from the central roundabout, on the top floor. It's not very cheap, but the food is of a good quality, about £ 20 per person. Very attentive and professional staff. Some waiters speak Spanish correctly.

Algunos camareros hablan correctamente castellano.

(Translated) Thanks to the admission free (optional donation) and extended closing time on Friday. There is a bias in the taste of the court restaurant, and soups that are too salty are unfortunate.
