Reviews of The Saffron Club

The Alexandra Players (drama group) from Charlton had their first Christmas outing all together since the pandemic started tonight. And it was wonderful! 🤩 Great restaurant, delicious and appetising food served by very friendly, accommodating staff made tonight extra, extra special. I had the chicken tikka masala which was incredible 😚👌 Forgot to take a piccie of my dinner as I was hungry and didn't want to stop once I picked up my knife and fork. 🤣 Highly recommend! Thank you for looking after us Saffron Club! 🙏

Delicious. We asked for an item that wasn’t on the menu (Pathia, definitely recommended) and that, along with the 2 specials, was perfect. Tasty, freshly made, and simply delicious. We will be back!

One of the best curry you can get in London. If you are local and have not been there yet you have no idea of what you are missing. I'm a customer since 2012 and the food quality has been the same if not better every time you come back, the service is very good and at a reasonable price. If you want a relaxing night, Saffron is the place. 10 out 10 for the place an the team.

Tasty food in this Indian restaurant.
Staff attentive and helpful.
However parking is not easy very near the restaurant. Easier to park on the Heath and walk to restaurant.

One of the best curries I have ever eaten! So much better than the usual standard menus that a lot of restaurants have. Can’t go wrong with Nepali food in my experience mind. We only had vegi - so can’t comment on the meat choices - but the Thali was amazing. We had ours spiced up. Dumplings for starters shouldn’t be missed either. Fab!

Food is very tasty, though slightly on the pricier side. Service could be better. They charge you £1 per poppadom so beware - it’s not free like in other places.

Our favourite place for a curry. We have just ordered a takeaway for my Birthday and these guys included a free bottle of beer. Food is always delicious and the service superb. We will be back as soon as you guys open again.

Solid choice for an Indian cuisine in the Blackheath area. Food was of really good quality and not very greasy like most. I thought the portion sizes were quite small but I felt quite full after the meal! My only negative was that I thought the chicken bhutwa was lacking seasoning. My wife’s curry was spot on though (I finished hers off!). They nailed the garlic naan too.

Delicious food! Had some starters I've never heard of before and they were amazing! No greasy food here just amazing fresh perfectly spiced food.

Quite surprised food was quite good and had flavour.
However there was way too much sugar in our dish's.
Prawns should have been peeled.
Please use less sugar.

Great food, and very relaxing. Helpful staff and reasonably priced!

The food was simply amazing. I visited after 3 years and I was so delighted I did. The manager was very warm and welcoming. Great service. The 'momos' were particularly delicious. Loved the entire food and went solely by the recommendations fir the manager. Highly recommended! Dr Gulati.

Very much in line with first generation curry dishes delivered in fine dining contemporary style. I would recommend this restaurant for a romantic night out or night out in general, friendly service without being over the top.

Great food, great service always. Great size portions

One of the best curries I've ever had! Nice full flavours and real whole spices balanced in the meals. Thumbs up

Staff is wonderful and the food is very good with s range of Indian and Nepalese dishes. Not quite the best I've had locally, so 4 stars. We'll definitely be going back as there were other dishes I'd like to try, so may uprate based on next time. Certainly recommended if you haven't been.

Been here twice before but very disappointed on my recent trip. Booked a table of 10 in advance for a Saturday night. Table not ready, sat upstairs next to toilet and very loud drinks fridge. Took about 30 minutes for our drinks to come - asked for a jug of water 3 times and never received it. Food came 1.5 hours after we arrived and was luke warm. Tasty food but definitely not fine dining. Given a 15% discount after commenting on our experience. Very disappointing - when I asked if they were understaffed they said yes but if so, don't accept takeaway orders.

Great service and delicious food. The waiting staff are all attentive, friendly and helpful. I ordered the mixed grill and the meat was seasoned to perfection and the garlic naan was soft and garlicky (yum!) Would definitely recommend and will be going again next time I fancy Indian food

Really great Indian restaurant. Went here on New Years eve as a last minute booking. Fantastic food (the lamb dumplings are a great starter) and good wine. Really friendly staff. Large meal for two (couple of sides, couple of curries with rice and other sides plus bottle of wine) works out around £70
A. L.
The best curry in the area. Have tried a few others always come back here. Must try the Bhutuwa, so good! Appears to have dropped of Just Eat recently but I've ordered direct from the website not trouble.
J. K.
Very clean, professional interior and great staff. Food of course is the most important and it ticked all the right boxes. I had the Lamb Bhutuwa curry and it was flavorful with great contrasts. The lamb was also very well prepared and not gamey, which can be off putting for some.
If there are any negatives (certainly not negative enough in my book to warrant removing a star) is that they don't really offer any desserts and they didn't have mango lassi. Your mileage may vary on how this may affect your experience but it didn't affect mine.
D. B.
Food and service fine. Some of the sauces for the Nepalese curries were a bit lacking in distinctive flavours. But nice to have tried them.
R. F.
Went here with seven pals on the 25/09/2019 and it was easily the best curry I've had in years. Empty plates, full bellies and very happy diners all round.
I ordered the LASUNI that was to die for. Spicy and full of flavour, I genuinely enjoyed every mouthful.
We will deffo be returning at some point in the near future.
A. S.
If you are looking for actual Indian food without spice levels customised to suit local taste - this is highly recommended.
Reasonably priced and decent portion size too, we just love the food here. Naans are soft and curry are very flavourful.
J. S.
Just had a meal from the saffron club , I have to say it’s the best Indian iv tasted , would recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good tasty Indian 👍🏻

Love this place. Have been eating here for a few years now and it's always consistently 5/5!!! The daal makhani will change your life!

Last minute Christmas Eve meal for 4 - managed to get in without too much bother and staff were friendly and courtiuos.
Food was excellent and just enough portions of rice to go with the meat and sauce.
I had the Makahan chicken which was lovely and would recommend to anybody wanting something mild but flavoursome.
Would go back next time I am in Blackheath.

This was the second of the trio of South Asian eateries in Blackheath Village following our recent trip to Khan's.
By comparison to Khans the interior decor was somewhat lacking. Furthermore, given the small table this restaurant may be more suitable for those with a small waistband. We must also pass comment on the musical selection, which was a veritable cornucopia of circa 2014 pop music such as 'one direction'.
However, the mango chutney which accompanied the papadum were delectable with a certain zing that is rare in the Indian cuisine world. Starters were flavoursome. Mains were very tasty.
Unfortunately some comments must be passed for the table service. Water was provided in a dirty cup, parts of dinner were missed (perhaps use a pen and pad next time!) and drinks were delayed and/or forgotten.
In short, it was decent mate. But not quite good enough for me.
S. K.
Gorgeous food. Everything I had was lovely. However, do be aware that the service is not particularly fast. Lovely place for a leisurely meal, not a great choice if you have to be somewhere afterwards.
W. c.
Food is pretty good here, nice flavours. The menus need updating though. Service was good. It was a bit warm inside though. The daal was tasty and puts other daal to shame.
R. S.
Best curry I have had in a long time! All the food tastes fresh and delicious. The staff are all lovely too I would definitely recommend.
J.
The best Indian restaurant in Blackheath. Friendly staff, ample portions, excellent quality food and an extensive menu. It's in the middle price range too. I highly recommend the special platter main dish, which is great value.
S. T.
I would say the best Indian restaurant in Blackheath and over the lock down it was by far the best takeaway we had (the Mixed seafood curry is fantastic).
T. S.
Momo, momo momo, momo momo, momo there's no limit...There's no limit to how tasty the momos were for our starter. They tasted very authentically Nepalese, and kicked-off the meal perfectly.
Next-up: Lamb Biryani. Almost made the school-boy error of ordering a rice on the side. Dodged that bullet, but did order the chef's naan basket - which came with enough naan to feed a hungry rugby team.
We weren't a hungry rugby team, but we done ate it anyway. And it was delicious - the garlic naan in particular.
No room for pudding, but we capped-off with a bottle of Gurkha beer - which is well worth a try. Not sure how Nepalese it was, since it's brewed in the EU according to their rather natty website.
The courses were punctuated with friendly service, and the whole atmosphere of the place was vibrant - although it was a Saturday night.
I would highly recommend this place - not too expensive, and really delicious food.
T. K.
Lovely menu, ambience and service

Amazing food. Vegetable biryani was one of the best I've ever had, and peshwari naan was delicious. Will be back!

The Saffron club has been our highlight for the past 10 years.
Very tasty vegetarian food and friendly staff!

Staff amazing and food was delicious, fresh and cooked to order Naan was straight from the tandoor!!!
R. D.
Food was excellent with a good menu and good price.
Service was good and food arrived in good time during a busy Saturday night. A favourite local place for a curry
I. S.
Excellent service and authentic curries, felt like we were back in India :) would put 4.5 if we were allowed x

Refreshing, interesting North Indian cuisine. The Momos and the Daal Machani are worth the trip alone. Comfortable seating and friendly and helpful staff. A real Gem.
S. W.
Great cooking but would appreciate it if they kept the restaurant area clean. The plug sockets were close to our table and it spoilt the experience.
S. R.
This is a little gem of an Indian restaurant. Unlike other Indian restaurants, they serve authentic Indian food; a combination of traditional and street food.
Loved the ambience and service.
D. J.
Visited this establishment on a night out with work and ordered Poppadoms for starters and Chicken Shashlik with a Dopiaza Sauce Rice and Garlic Nann and was mighty impressed very very tasty.... Will definitely visit again when in the area..
J. D.
Tikka masala was delicious. Peshwari naan very good. Friendly staff and the cleanest Indian restaurant I've ever visited!
R. W.

A. K.
Such a great food.

There is one rule in saffron club. And that is have the lamb chops for a starter. Now repeat that first sentence and book a table.
B. V.
I made a request for something not on the menu and they were happy to make it for me. Nice friendly staff who put on some R n B when i asked 😀
