Reviews of The Tale of India
R. S.
This has got to be the most flavoursome Indian Restaurant in the UK.
Interior is ok, I'd rate the Interior 3 stars, it's traditional, comfortable and cosy. But the food is truly awesome and I really mean it...Mouthwatering flavours. I've been ordering from this place for the last 18 years and the flavours are spot on, I've never had any problems with this restaurant. No matter where I am, when I want an Indian, it's always this place because I've tried the rest. This place always delivers the food how it should be. I can tell just from the flavours the chef has been here since day one even though I've never met the chef which I would like to meet one day. The food is never overcooked or undercooked, the chefs skills are precisely perfect.
My favourite starter is the fat-free Shami Kebab, and when I mean fat-free it doesn't mean it comes dry, it's juicy and full of flavours with grilled onions on top (checkout the picture)
My favourite main dish is the Chicken Dansak with extra slices of garlic and green chilli. The chef knows exactly how I want and customise it for me, and I am very picky when it comes to food. The dansak is full of extra toppings, they don't fall short when you ask them (check the chicken dansak in the picture)
Side dish I usually go for the Vegetable Bhajee, and again the way the vegetables are cooked it's truly flavoursome. Most restaurants the vegetables seems to be boring and soggy, but in this restaurant, it's something you would not dislike.
I have tried pretty much everything on the menu and I promise you'd be satisfied. I usually order takeaway and I still yet to meet the chef and the management just to say...THANK YOU.
EXCELLENT SERVICE & EXCELLENT FOOD 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is a very nice Indian restaurant and is worth a bite if your in the area. We are regulars to this place either by going in or take aways! Food is always so nice, never had any issues’
R. A.
Had the most delicious biryani that i went back the following week and got two! One chicken tikka and the other a Lamb tikka biryani. The containers where fully packed and the actual Lamb+Chicken quantity was very generous! Will be back again for sure!
M. H.
Bangaldeshi restaurant represent Indian food quite h used to be a 1 county. The culture and food is almost same .
One of the oldest restaurant in the area .
Good service and food. I enjoy the food and service and visit with family often .
M. S.
Been here twice. Both times it was really tasty food, good sized portions and decent value.
Service was good with the owner spending time to come and talk to us. Will definitely return again. Well worth pairing it up with a visit to the local cinema or Museum of Docklands.
k. A.
Yesterday I had Chicken briyani and it was very yummy!! Good quality too :) Quantity is bit less but worth for the money!
G. S.
Definitely one of my favourite Indian restaurants . Always great tasting food , eat in or takeaway . The service in house is friendly . Great thing is they have there own delivery service which means you don't have a load of delivery drivers on bikes blocking the door way .
L. D.
One of my favourite Indian restaurants in London. You should definitely try the garlic rice and chicken jhal freizi!
S. B.
Don't know why this place is rated so high. If you're drunk and need some curry then it's amazing, otherwise I'll say it's a pass.
Ordered from here a couple of times in 2018, never went back as the food was too spicy and didn't have the right flavours
A. C.
During my recent trip to London I went to this place while scouting for the Indian restaurants around my hotel in Docklands area and I stumbled across them. But what a meet it was. Day after day they kept serving me the delicious cuisines from the Indian subcontinent and made me feel at home by their courteous behavior. There were couple of occasions when they made customized dishes for me and delighted me with awesome taste. Even after landing back in India, I would still miss them for the superb experience they offered me during those 2 weeks. Keep it up!!
L. A.
A hidden gem of Indian restaurants in London. Very reasonably priced, but very delicious. It's outside of Canary Wharf (near West India Quay), but the after-work stroll is worth it. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They get a lot of takeout orders, but I believe that is also a good sign. Definitely not the last time eating here!
R. C.
Good food and service!
f.
I order takeaway from this restaurant pretty regularly. A bit pricier that other local choices, but offset if you use their regular £5 off vouchers. Consistent good quality curries, and decent portions.
A. G.
Delicious food in a very Indian atmosphere. The menu is very wide, everything prepared with fresh ingredients. The service is absolutely friendly. There are few tables. Price is convenient. I definitely recommend a visit to this perfect restaurant. Enjoy!
L. O.
We have besn living around this area for years, but after the first visit we regret not visit here earlier! It's such a cozy small curry house but with tons of delicious dishes! We ordered 2 curries and one is amazingly good (sweet coconut based)! Will definitely visit more often! Good selection of some unusual sub-continent dishes such as a range of Assam curries. We had 2 different paneer dishes that were both excellent. Starters (pakora and garlic mushrooms) were pretty ordinary though.
E.
It's nothing special. Food is standard, those who are generally used to eating curry at home won't find anything special here. The service is okay, but the restaurant as a whole seems to be catered more to those of non-Asian descent. There's alcohol served here which might be for you.
In summary, as an Asian man who is used to eating rice and curry and have eaten at many other similar establishments, I was not so blown away. If you're not used to spice in your life, this may be good enough to blow you away. Otherwise, I would recommend going to another place. Not worth the money for the food given

First visit: 5*
Great taste and perfect value for money. Been here with colleagues from India and they approved.
Second visit: 4*
The food was a bit too dry, and we had to ask to take orders for main course after having the starters. It was still tasty and enjoyable.
Resume: 4*
Perhaps depends on the day you come.

Wow Amazing Satisfying Food! I would highly recommend and I will definitely order again. I have never posted a review for any restaurant before but after the food i just ate i said to my husband this restaurant definitely deserves a mention. This is the first time i ordered for a delivery from Tale of India. I was told 1 hour wait but the food came in 30 mins! The food is made with love and passion and all the dishes were spot on. I have absolutely nothing negative to say other than the salad is a very small portion. Besides that 5/5 for me. My favourite dish is King Prawn Puri. I will most definitely be dining in and will be a regular.
L. S.
Really delicious food, definitely a class above most standard curry houses.
Interesting dishes, friendly staff.
R. W.
Having tried a number of mediocre Indian restaurants since moving to Bow, this will be my go to place from now on. The dishes were flavourful and the meat well cooked. Delivery was fine too. Now to work my way through the menu!
R. M.
Used to stop here on my way home from work at Canary Wharf to get an excellent curry. One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to with some dishes you don't see elsewhere. Miss it a lot as I now live overseas!
y. c.
Best Indian restaurant in London nearly Canary Wharf. Very clean good quality food and reasonably priced. The owner Mr.Laskar and the staff are friendly and always happy. I have been eating over 7 years, anyone visiting Canary Wharf Must try real curry Restaurant.
K. U.
Fantastic place, a true gem in the heart of Docklands. This is my new local and totally love their dishes. I have read some of the negative reviews on here and couldn't disagree with them more. They can be a bit slow on deliveries but hey curries take a while to cook and they are always very busy and the most important thing is the food comes piping hot. Thank you Tale of India for tantalising my taste buds. ;-)
y. c.
Food was outstanding with very adequate portions, 5* hygienic rate with excellent customer service. I love their spicy food even though I'm not a big fan of spice, I have be going there for last three year and i never had any problem, the staff are very friendly and professional always and I will keep going back again and again. Delicious and Tasty...
J. B.
We found this lovely restaurant by chance while looking for somewhere to escape from a heavy downpour of rain. The food was wonderful and the service fast and very friendly. We are visiting London again in a couple of weeks and a return visit is on the top of our things to do! Highly recommended restaurant: 5 star!
v. s.
Really tasty good food. Nice to eat in but it is also a takeaway. There was five of us and was £21 each for main dish, starter, rice nan and side of cucumber rita plus a drink. Good value for money and good quality
R. B.
Attend venue for a wedding reception. A cosy little gem with delicious food and attentive service.
M. H.
Was early evening when we came in so wasn't very busy. It is quite small inside but typical decor for an Indian restaurant. Waiting staff were friendly and the food was good. Not badly priced
Y. L.
It's a really nice restaurant for a group of ppl. We went there together after work and did really relax. The food is super. Big portion for 7 people and delicious. If you know nothing about the India food, just ask for suggestion. I like the king prawn! Very good. They also do the take away. If I stay here more day, I will go again!
T. R.
The service that we received here was exemplery. The waiter genuinely couldn't do enough for us and was so sweet and attentive.
The food on the whole is nice but I found it a little on the bland side which isn't ideal when you're looking for Indian food. The naans were a little burnt too which is unfortunate. Maybe we came on a bad night? It was okay on the whole just nothing too amazing.
I'd definitely give it another go with the hopes it'd improve.
C. M.
This is actually Bangladeshi food Cz as a south Asian I can say this food is not Indian. However compared to other so called Indian food places in the area, this has the best food. Staff is very friendly. Portions are quite big and worth for money. Butter chicken is not that great. Should work on that!
R. G.
Visiting from US, This is the best Indian food I have had for a very long time, excellent service, food quality and taste! Cannot find it anywhere in US , been to many places all over US but could not find this taste , guess this must be the best restaurant in canary wharf, I will not surprised if this is best for all of London Great place for Indian bangaladesi food, no one can beat this
G. “. G.
The Tikka wasn't what I was expecting, but the lamb vindaloo was excellent and spicy. The drink selection is pretty diverse, with a variety of sweet wines and sherries available. Ordered naan with lamb in it, that was a first, and enjoyed it. The rice portion was a bit small for two people. Everything on the menu is extra, pappadam, rice, even the sauces, a la carte.
W. R.
whenever i fancy indian food this is the place i either go or give then a ring for home delivery, the ingredients quality is outstanding and the way the chef puts them together is just delicious! keep it up guys and thank you ;)
A. E.
When I eat it I like to explore, I like to see how different places cook, serve and care about foods of all types . Being an Indian and eating lots of Indian food it is difficult to find an affordable and good quality take away that matches my somewhat experienced Indian taste. However, it's not difficult to find an Indian takeaway serving rubber avec gravy and rice, some people like this and that's their choice. These guys are hands down the best Indian takeaway I have used in the Canary Wharf region. Listens to instructions most of the time, good meat, generally well cooked food (rice/vegetables/meat) and great service. For the price, quality, quantity and speed I couldn't ask for more. My go to is an extra spicy Lamb Tikka biriyani.
C. T.
First of all I want to start by saying that this place would’ve been 5 stars a year ago but due to MASSIVE increase in prices and terrible service over the phone it has dropped down to 3 stars. However A very neat and tidy restaurant, with very nice food and polite staff. Great sized servings and a positive atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if in the local area but just be aware of high prices for food.
A. 6. B.
Food here is so lovely this is the only Indian takeaway I go to in the area, staff here are super friendly and attentive to all guests. The prices are also very affordable not to expensive.
N. K.
This place is lovely and I can't stress that enough. The food is really on point here with the perfect blend of spices and flavours to accompany an array of tastebuds. Service is great and food is prompt.
If you're in the area, pop in. It is well worth it.
N. H.
Wow! Wow! Wow! :D
The most amazingly tasty Indian I have had in absolutely ages!!
Each of the 6 curries I ordered for myself had their own subtle yet fresh flavour and the peshwari nan was rocking! Will definitely be ordering from The Tale of India team again.
N. S.
Very nice staff, were welcoming and was seated straight away. Food was top quality, everything tasted fresh, lamb was cooked to perfection.
Wait for food was around 45mins but was with a large party.
Would highly recommend.
D. W.
Tasty food. I particularly like the Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi - great curry sauce (or gravy) with a barbecue flavour running through it from the chicken.
I've eaten there once with a group of friends. Good service. Usually get a takeaway which is prepared in good time.
D. V.
I've been ordering and visiting for years, the food is excellent, delicious and not very expensive, the only flaw in the past was very slow delivery service and rude staff at the restaurant, I was shocked when I visited this week, the staff was so helpful and kind, my delivery also arrived very quickly.Either there is new management or the need for good service has finally hit home, either way this place is my go to and probably the best curry house in East London. Garlic Chili Chicken, Aloo Gobi and Shahi Subzi are divine.
J. C.
Went today with my lovely granddad and it was our first time going there. It was lovely and delicious and my granddad said he will go again and it's just right for us I couldn't agree anymore, atmosphere was lovely staff great service too. Loved the place will go again soon! (Thumbs up)
b. k.
This is a fantastic place for authentic bengali/Bangladeshi style delicacies.
I have never written reviews of this sort, but was felt compelled because of many reasons. My chikdhood was spent in kolkata, west Bengal and always crave for bengali food during my travels. The shotkura bhuna chicken I ordered was so gooodddd!!! The service was impeccable. Very very nice people running the restaurant.
There were 3 other British couples came in, and they seemed loyal customers of this place, as they knew the owner very well..
Highly recommend!!
O.
Definitely a place if your looking for pure Indian meals.
Very classic, delicious and authentic dishes.
j. f.
Have had quite a few take aways from here and have always been very happy with the food and service. As we was actually in the area decided to go to restaurant in person and we was made very welcome and the food was excellent would definitely recommend it,, even brought home doggy bag as you always get a good portion and hate to leave any behind
h. v.
I had ordered Chicken Chilli Masala with Naan, it was delicious and the food portion is also good. Definitely gonna visit again😊
R. F.
The food was Decent and came pretty quickly , However I was very disappointed with the price of the drinks. For a 1.5Litres of R WHITES LEMONADE, it cost £3.95 which quite franckly its extortionate!!!!!!! when i can get it for 99p for same exact drink at Tesco’s ..something need to be done about that ..
V. P.
My husband, Indian, and I go here all the time as it's some of the best curry we've found! Staff are generally friendly with occasional misses, and service is generally slow but worth it. We keep going back
J. R.
Have been going here for a few years now, food is always of a high and excellent quality. Particular favourites are the chicken madras and prawn pathia, but the menu in general is consistently great.
M. W.
I had a Bangladeshi dish at just the right level of spiciness for me. Reasonable prices. Not a fancy restaurant by any stretch, but I'll be back.
H. L.
I have tried this place on a number of occassions, and all the biryanis are amazing! Prawn and chicken tikka biryani is definitely my Favourite. The atmosphere is cosy and the staff are really friendly. Would defo recommend if you want true Indian food.
A. B.
Consistently excellent food. We have visited this restaurant since it opened and it always has given us a great family experience with each dish having individual flavours and the restaurant having a friendly atmosphere
D. B.
I am from India and after trying mostly all the Indian resturant in canary wharf, I think this is the most authentic Indian restaurant. Food is very delicious, service is good, though I feel it is slightly overpriced. Palak paneer is amzing :)...Would definitely visit this place again and is highly recommended
N. T.
This restaurant had really good dishes despite customer complaints I have eaten here for as long as I remember i have experienced bad customerservice food poisoning. I would highly recommend it to people who are new to Indian food service is
