Reviews of Tokyo Pizza
A. P.
Funky vibe, not too expensive but definitely not cheap.. The salmon was tasty but it was anything but authentic, it was cooked well but it was nothing special, it felt like ingredients were missing & the pizza had so much potential but it was served cold. The staff was friendly! I would neither recommend nor not recommend- but I would give it another try!
A. C.
service and location was great however the food quality could be better! we ordered the mushroom and wagyu steak pizza, which both sounded like an interesting flavor fusion. the mushroom has an earthy place but the sauce overpowered the toppings and didn’t hold together when eating each slice. the wagyu had a nice flavor with the corn and pickled onions, but the price didn’t justify the small amount of wagyu that was on the pizza… overall, its quite a pricey japanese fusion restaurant but hope to try other dishes!
G. S.
The pizza base was delicious and cripsy. The toppings all complemented each other very well to create unique flavours. The service was quick and the ambience was very well decorated. I’d recommend this place for unique and delicious pizzas
D. W.
Went here for a late night bite. Pretty cool vibe to the place and unconventional pizza combinations. The kitchen was about to close but they still let us in, and the service overall was very good. The waitress was friendly and apologised for rushing us. The Kinoko (mushroom pizza) and TP Ringo (apple crumble dessert pizza!) were both awesome.
R. F.
Very nice environment, the food has to be enjoyed with presence.
A bit weak on covid precautions during our visit.
Pizza with great flour and consistency. Unfortunately it has been less easy to digest than expected.
S. C.
Great concept and fushion food. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
The Pizzas we had were tasty.
I do agree with one of earlier review about the price of Pizzas, being on the higher side, which I understand could be due to higher cost of material, but give the portion size is high.
A. G.
Delicious food - we had the lotus chips and calamari starters, 2 pizzas and the mushroom one was the best I've tasted in a long time. Also tried their chicken katsu curry which our toddler enjoyed as much as we did 😊 The staff were incredibly friendly too and such good service. Highly recommend!
P. K.
The new pizza place in Maida Vale. I would say it a good overall pizza place. First of all I think being a new place it will be good to check it, it has some different varieties of your favourite traditional pizzas, but the thing is that a lot of the have spicy in one way or another, so for sure ask before ordering. The dough is really nice! I would suggest to try the margarita, if you want to test a pizza place, always try the margarita first. You also must try their sides they are something different. Also if you want to try Japanese's craft drinks, this is the place, they have all sorts of them. Overall a good place.
M. R.
Incredibly amazed by the quality of the pizza. Being an Italian and a purist I was naturally quite skeptic but the reviews (also from other Italians) were really good, and I can only confirm that. The dough is very proper and the mix with Japanese flavours is a real experience. The staff is also super nice and the service quick!! What not to love.
A. V.
Bloody good pizza. Being Italian I was a little skeptical about a pizza with wagyu beef but I wanted to try a new experience.
Best choice ever. The flavours are well balanced and the base of the pizza is probably the best I had so far (in four years) in London. Forget those pizza chains you are used to go: these guys know how to make a f good pizza
P. J.
A great Japanese twist to the regular pizza toppings. The pizzas were crispy and thin. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed. Good place for drinks.
C. Z.
Amazing Spot for Asian-inspired cuisine and unbelievable Pizza. The starters were incredible (especially the Wagyu Roll and Garlic Bread) and the Wagyu Pizza and Salmon were superb. Cool vibe and music, nice decor and outstanding service from the owner and staff. Highly recommend
J. M.
Gets a solid 8.8 from me.
Super light fluffy dough
Crispy base with some glorious oven burn marks which I'm all for... Tastes beautiful fresh dough, if you're near you gotta try the mushroom pizza with feta Cheese!!!
😍Thank me later

Saw that this place just opened and had glowing reviews so decided to give it a shot. Taste wise, the pizzas are good, no doubt about it. Flavour options are fresh and novel - haven’t seen them offered elsewhere. The issue here however is the price and the service/ambience.
The wagyu beef pizza we had was £21 and the smoked salmon one was £16. The pizzas were good but they didn’t justify the price. For that price the pizzas should really be a lot bigger. Homeslice for example does huge pizzas in comparison to these which feed 2 people and cost £20. These are just too small to justify the cost they charge.
Location wise, the restaurant is on basement level which is not in itself a problem. Many establishments still feel roomy and spacious despite being underground. Unfortunately this is not the case here and the seating is quite small and cramped.
Service (which they charge 12.5% for) is also overcharged for the level they are providing. Glum and abrupt servers are not acceptable when you are charging this level of service.
In short - pizzas are good, but the price, service and ambience ultimately drag this place down.
S. T.
This was one of the best pizzas I ever had. The base was thin and crispy but the crust was puffy and spring to it (good bite to it). Have nice sakes and wine too.
Appetisers were unique, however would have loved to have more wagyu in the wagyu spring roll.
Would go back to try the other pizzas.
I. H.
Excellent pizza, just don’t let deliveroo anywhere near it. Arrived cold and messed up. Taking 30 mins for a 1.7 mile journey. Pizza itself was fantastic as was the salad.
T. Z.
Went with a big group of friends and sat in the "vault". It was very cosy and private. We ate a lot of food and drank a lot of sake. All in all, great place. Looking forward to the summer when the outside is open.
highlights: a really well designed menu as well as the decor and layout of the restaurant; felt like somewhere where you could stay for a few hours, have a few drinks, take a date. The starters were fantastic and a mixture of what you would find in an Italian place (calamari) and a Japanese one (rolls). Both were excellent. The pizzas tasted great and also the added bonus of being quite unique. I've never had a Salmon or Wagyu pizza before. It's also 5mins from the tube.
S. P.
Great date spot, me and my girlfriend loved it. Fantastic service, relaxed ambience and the starters and pizza's are to die for. I had the Wagyu topped one and it was divine.
100% coming back, worth the trip over from east London
M. F.
Mushroom™ pizza is quite popular and understandably! Good portions and tasty
A. S.
Absolutely fantastic concept with some of the best quality food fused together with creativity and perfection. Going to become a regular and try the rest of the menu. The owners and staff are incredible and on to a real winner!
A. C.
Pleasantly surprised to find this gem coming back from Christmas holiday. Stylish interior with comfortable seating and friendly staff. We ordered 2 pizzas and sake for 2. Prices are fair for a nice restaurant in West London. Might try ordering some appetizer, only 1 pizza so we have some room for the dessert pizza next time we go!
L. T.
Great service, the Earl Grey sake is a must try! The pizzas were great!
X. L.
Cool vibes, delicious unique flavours on pizza, and the yuzu sake was something special!
M. G.
I love the concept and the vibe. The food is great- really interesting and unique flavour combinations. Service was impeccable and the owner was so welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend, and cant wait to go back.
Y. Y.
Oh lord! This pizza was delicious! At first, I was slightly pessimistic about the menu but worth every penny. This was the shiitake and goat cheese #yummy. Definitely going back to try the salmon one.
L. F.
Not only is the food from here always great (a refreshing twist on pizza), but our last order took *16 minutes* from being ordered through an app, to getting to our door, which is unbelievable. 16!!! Keep it up!
O. E.
So wrong but so good..!? So we tried, it wasn’t a car crash, the pizza base was really good just the combination of flavours was a bit disjointed…we might be back, just no pizza!
S. M.
Other members in my party had pizza, squid and cake, and seemed very pleased with it all. I mixed and shared the Kuranchi and Kōrusurō salads together with my girlfriend and they were honestly heavenly! Neither salad on it's own was particularly amazing, but mixed together, they were enhanced tenfold! Very satisfied. Service was top notch. They were all really friendly and accommodating
J. U.
Fantastic place. Very interesting menu choices. Everything we had was utterly delicious. Can particularly recommend the crunchy salad.
c. a.
Little gem of an eatery which could easily be overlooked. Great food and an interesting whiskey selection. Definately would go back again.
C. K.
Mind blown - this is now on my top 10 list!
Japanese flavours on pizzas was something I didn’t know I needed!
There’s a little outdoor area on street level and the restaurant is down in the basement. Quite dark but well designed and has a good atmosphere.
Absolutely fantastic and will definitely return.
S. S.
Incredible pizza!
Light fluffy base, good toppings and the dipping sauces are simply incredible. Love the experience of eating the crust with a dunk in their sauces! Defo get the sauces to get the full experience of Tokyo pizza
W.
Visited Tokyo Pizza last week for a friend's birthday. Can't speak highly enough of the food, staff and atmosphere. Ended up trying a good selection of the food and the pizza is excellent! The dough is a great consistency and the toppings are inventive and flavoursome without being over the top and hard to eat. Really recommend the three cheese and chilli, as well as the mushroom. Great drink selection, and of course, if you like sake, then you're in luck. I'm not a local (by about 50 miles), but if I was I'd be in all the time. Friendly and helpful staff, and the owners were very welcoming and accommodating to us as a group. Thoroughly recommend!
M. B.
Had my birthday dinner here recently with a group of friends and had a fantastic time. The food was delicious, I had a share of some of the starters and a couple of pizzas. The salmon pizza was something unexpected and tasted great. I was once told you can always judge a pizza place based on their margherita and this certainly did not disappoint! Finished off with a surprising dessert - apple crumble pizza which was brilliant. Great range of sake and wine. Cool atmosphere and really friendly and attentive staff. Will definitely be coming back!
S. Z.
Best kept secret by foodies, but not for long! We had a flawless meal at Tokyo Pizza, which scores high in service, food and overall experience. A fusion take on pizza, you will love this place if you like interesting but easy food full of flavour. Every dish we tried was delicious, and that is equally true for the salads! A must try for any restaurant-list keeper/EVERYONE!
A. E.
One of the best pizza joints in London, if you can even call it just "pizza". A Japanese Ogazumu on Italian bread - perfectly matching tastes and flavours tinkered to a tee. Highly recommend this place. Staff are friendly, welcoming and generous, sharing their food experiments with customers from inside the open kitchen as they wait for their order. Definitely see you again soon!
F. A.
Was really intrigued to try this fusion of Japanese cuisine with Italian pizza and I was not disappointed! The restaurant itself is a very cool, edgy, modern looking space in a nice part of London. Really relaxed atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. Some great flavours and concepts. I particularly loved the smoked salmon pizza as well as the apple pie pizza which I thought was very cool. Prices are really reasonable. Definitely on my list of great places to eat!
i. b.
As Italian and pizza lover, i m not normally keen on trying "alternative" pizza toppings but considering my passion for Asian food, i decided to give a chance to Tokyo Pizza. I must admit it was not disappointing at all. The pizza dough is great and the various combinations of toppings incredibly tasty! Honestly, can't wait to go back and try more. The service can improve, we received a wrong starter and waitresses seemed a bit confused about which items to bring to each table, but this is acceptable as the place is very new. Definitely worth a visit!
J. F.
Third time i have been there, and its great. The mushroom pizza, fresh pizza, and wagyu were sensational.
J. W.
Tokyo pizza? Seems an odd idea. Indeed on visiting the underground cavern that Tokyo Pizza occupies it seems like an odd place. Small little rooms and sparse decor.
The Japanese aspect of the business is more in concept than execution and there was no shokunin, this word represents a person's full commitment to every detail of a craft, which defines the elevated Japanese pizza found in Tokyo.
The pizza however is delicious. The crust, which apparently uses Japanese flour, is remarkable. Thin and crisp and delicious. The toppings are slightly less memorable and the flavour profiles slightly disjointed.
What lets the joint down however is the pricing. Far too aggressive on every front from the starters, to the pizzas and the drink menu. from 12 to 22 pounds for an 11 inch pizza. 5.50 for a bottle of beer. The pricing is likely to keep people from returning and making it more of a novelty than a staple of the neighborhood.
The service could also use a little love as it felt a bit disjointed and inconsistent. Hopefully this will smooth out in time.
G. e.
I went there with a group of friends and we were not disappointed. A restaurant full of energy, great food and service. Great sake selection too, can't wait to go again.
G. L.
Just tried Tokyo Pizza at the start of its second weekend - still working out a few bugs with the service (to be expected at this stage), but really promising. Beautiful space, hip soundtrack, creative menu, and most importantly, delicious food. Tried the veg spring roll (nice construction and excellent dipping sauce), mushroom pizza (liked the Japanese flavours melded with ricotta and crunchy crust), and smoked salmon pizza (all-around winner). For a neighbourhood place inspired by David Chang’s foray into Japanese Neapolitan-style pizza in an episode of Ugly Delicious (check it out on Netflix), Tokyo Pizza hits all the right notes. Will definitely return.
S. A.
LOVED IT!
I had the Wagyu rolls and Samon pizza, and have been craving more ever since. The rolls were great and the warm base pizza covered with chilled toppings really brought the flavour alive. Not usually a fan of Sake but their decision to serve it chilled is a touch of genius - goes down so smoothly.
Very slick decor and cosy atmosphere, topped off by super friendly staff and a really tasty meal. Well done Tokyo Pizza!

I went here on a Friday night as I liked the idea of Japanese pizza and what exactly that might entail?! I had a great evening, the restaurant is downstairs in the basement with chairs at the counter so you can see the chef working, and other tables dotted around. It is dimly lit and they play great music. It has a super buzzy atmosphere and the owners are great fun too, and very much present making sure everyone is happy.
The food was delicious, I had shitake mushrooms on a pizza with the thinnest of crusts with Yuzu sauce drizzled on it, and my boyfriend had salami and kimchi (appreciate that is Korean - but a nod to Asia!).
They also had a really impressive sake list where you can buy either by the glass or small carafe. I will definitely return.

We live locally and ordered pizza for the first time from here. It took quite a while for the pizza and a side dish of crispy squid to arrive and it was cold. We phoned Tokyo pizza and explained the situation and it turned out that Deliveroo (never again) had messed up the timing on the order. Misa asked if I could come and pick up a new pizza & squid on the house. All I can say is fantastic food !.., and Misa's friendly and thoughtful approach to dealing with us has won us over. Lovely little spot for our area and delicious pizza.
m.
Wow! WOW! This is by far the best pizza I have ever had. I’ve worked for years in the pizza industry and trained in Neapolitan pizzas but this blew me away.
I don’t care so much about crazy new pizzas. I’m somewhat traditional and always order a margherita. My wife however went for the TP fresh which was a vegetarian pizza with fresh vegetables on a hot tomato base.
The dough is sublime - the crispy exterior but light and airy interior of the crust is an unbelievable skill to master and it is done with perfection here!
Just like others below, I was skeptical about this mix of Japan and Italy and I think what explained this restaurants approach is that the waitress explained they don’t consider themselves a fusion, but more of “a pizza restaurant in Tokyo”.
Aside from the dough, the toppings were flavoursome and seemingly high in quality. The burrata and fior di latte cheeses on my wife and I’s pizzas were fresh and complimented the dough. I had a slice of my wife’s pizza and I was pleasantly surprised by their play on hot and cold toppings. It had me jumping at the bit for more! Haha
All in all - this place rocks! I think they’re seriously on to something here and what they’ve done has definitely inspired me and my practice as a pizza chef!! Thank you Tokyo Pizza!

Had a really enjoyable evening with friends here the other night. As you walk in you can immediately tell from the decor a lot of effort has gone into this place. We were handed the menus with some rather eccentric sounding pizzas - each one more appealing than the other.
Our table was fortunate enough to be served by the owner who was very personable and friendly. We went along with his recommendation of starters, but I hesitated at his suggestion of the salmon pizza. “Are you sure? I’m not a massive fan of fish on pizza” I balked. Despite this he reassured me it was one of the most popular and well received choices, so with the least bit of conviction I ordered the salmon pizza.
The starters arrived and they were all superb. From the garlic bread to the Wagyu spring rolls - we were blown away. These weren’t typical starters you’d get at a pizza restaurant, nor a Japanese restaurant. But they worked together brilliantly. There was not one starter we didn’t enjoy.
Then onto the main course - where I could see one of my friend’s pizzas arriving from the distance. It was the Wagyu pizza. I began to get a terrible sense of food FOMO - that sinking feeling where you believe you’ve completely ordered the wrong thing. My friend chuckled and instantly could tell what I was thinking - “you’re not touching any of mine” he laughed. Damn. I guess I’d just have to wait for mine to arrive and count my losses. Seconds later my friend’s mushroom pizza arrived. The sweet soy truffle glaze visible beneath the oyster mushrooms. My friends now forming a pizza slice trade agreement between themselves whilst I was left out. Before I even had a chance to disrupt them with my outrage, two more pizzas arrived - a burrata and asparagus pizza for my other friend and the dreaded salmon pizza!
It looked pleasantly appealing. A white base, Salmon pieces - half way between sashimi and smoked salmon - all garnished with dill and capers. You could smell the truffle oil. My friends were no longer laughing now. One of them could be seen sheepishly eyeing up my plate. This was no time for pride. Each main course looked more enviable than the other. “I guess we should all try a piece of each other’s, right?” I suggested. There was an immediate nod of agreement and we all proceeded to cut slices for each other.
The Wagyu beef pizza was great. The dough was perfectly cooked and you could tell this was a premium pizza. The meat - like the best Wagyu - was rich, but not too rich with very deep flavours. Next was the burrata pizza. As a vegetarian pizza this really stood out. The burrata complementing the cherry tomatoes, asparagus and red onion. Followed by the mushroom pizza which was also a really great choice. But without a doubt - the unanimous winner amongst the table was the salmon pizza. This was a pizza like no other. Each topping seemingly stranger on a pizza (who puts sour cream on a pizza?) but yet so excellent together. It was all worth it in the end!
This was a great restaurant to visit and I can not recommend it highly enough. The selection of Sake and Whiskeys also should get a mention as they’re outstanding. I have no doubt that this restaurant will see much success - and with so few tables it’s well worth booking quick - before everyone else hears about it too!
a. e.
Such refreshing place to eat. More than just a restaurant. What surprised me most about Tokyo pizza was not the variety of pizzas on offer but how the setting makes you feel like you are not just at a pizza spot. Amazing staff too!!!
C. S.
Very high end pizza base and the combination of interesting Japanese toppings is a real winner. This is without doubt among the very best pizzas in London.
A. D.
What a great spot! You can see the thought put into taking the food and experience here to the next level!
Such interesting flavours that work well together, great friendly owners and staff and a great vibe to meet with friends
Will definitely be back

I was very excited about TP opening in our neighbourhood. The corner of Clifton Gardens and Maida Vale has been in need of a cleanup for some time.
The clean lines and the modern design esthetic of the signage outside continues in the lowerground area with cosy tables and a comfortable bar area. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly.
My avocado, asparagus and green chili springroll was a perfect delight and well presented. A bit pricy at 5.90 but I will order it again.
The Nasu pizza with aubergine, goats cheese and walnuts was my attempt at being risky and the flavours did not disappoint. The crust was a bit burnt underneath though.
My bill for the above and a ginger ale was £26 incl service. Tea and coffee were not available.
I will be back to try the sake some time and some other starters.
m. a.
My fav spot in London. Super cozy, amazing food. Always craving the Sarami and Wagyu pizza.
Deserts are on another level and fantastic Japanese drinks list.
Definitely recommend it to everyone.
O. B.
i am a huge pizza lover and this is the best pizza in London for me. They combined classic with new and the result is just so spot on. Congrats to the people behind the concept, this place is definitely here to stay!!
R. T.
The wagyu pizza is a MUST!!!!!! and please do not underestimate the salads!!! Make sure you go with a big group to give you a chance to try all the pizzas. Extremely unique and well thought of flavours on a light base.
H. H.
I was there last night with my wife and daughter and I just have one word to describe our overall experience. WOW!!! The food, atmosphere, customer service just WOW! It’s definitely on my list of top 5 places to eat in London. You have to try it!
A. T.
The food was great. The service was bad. It seems these guys are entirely focused on deliveries and collections, with no regard for their dine-in business. We were ignored all evening, we had to repeat our request for table water twice, all whilst the staff kept themselves occupied by skipping through the music they didn’t like. Good food, good drinks too, but don’t dine-in anytime soon - especially as they’ll still bill you 12.5% for the privilege of their “service”.
A. R.
The food is great, tasty, inovative, so 5 starts for that! I have to rate it only 3 starts though because none of the personel was wearing any PPE (the waiters, the chefs, no one). I know some people don't belive in masks, but regardless, the law is the law. The service is friendly but a little slow.
S. A.
This underground pizza/sake restaurant surprised me. We tried the wagyu pizza, rocket salad & age ika. Food consistently good, amazing fusion of flavours. Tokyo Pizza is a vibe.
N. J.
So happy to have discovered Tokyo pizza, their mixed mushroom and wagyu pizzas have got me hooked! Amazing starters too, don’t miss the lotus chips, aubergine chips and tuna mochi
L. C.
We spotted this hidden restaurant whilst lost in London. Starters were amazing, and our pizzas were perfect. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and overall very reasonable price!
J. D.
Went there last night, the service was great and the owner was so nice.
We ordered 2 starters which were amazing and then shared the wagyu pizza which was lovely.
Will definitely go back.
M. Z.
honestly have never had a better Pizza. Also loved the starers and salads. Will be going back for sure and now that they do deliveries this is my new go to food fetish.
T. Y.
Loved the starters and the pizza was great. Really enjoyed the playlist as well, great vibe and the staff were very attentive. Will come back again.
