Reviews of Tonkotsu Bankside
陳.
Reasonably priced ramen (coming from a student). Good portion sizes and the broth is super rich! It was quite busy when we went so perhaps the service was not as good, but I would still return again in the future.
R.
The pricing is completely fair for hearty and delicious food. The ramen’s are amazing though I could do with extra heat besides the chilli flake oil to hand. The katsu curry with simply amazing and service was stellar with hardly any waiting time despite a busy restaurant.
R. L. L.
Enjoyed my late dinner there. Tokyo ramen and chicken karaage are decent and reasonably priced. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat with no fuss, here you have. Staff is responsive and friendly.
C.
Flavour & quality needs to go back to previous highs.
The chilli chicken ramen was nice but lacking in umami flavour. Tasted bland compared to previous experience.
The chicken Karaage was a good portion & tasty but quite oily, more oily than before.
Even the chilli oil was bland!
Service is okay perhaps be a bit more attentive?
Used to be absolutely awesome but seems to have slipped in standards. Need an easy reboot
S. A.
The ramen here was full of flavour and really delicious. We could order easily using the app so that saved time. I would recommend this place and will be back for more!!
C. H.
The broth was overload with saltiness.
Pork belly was alright, egg was slightly over cooked, ..
I do appreciate that they have power socket under the table.
I overheard some white people said they loved the broth, but as an East Asian who traveled to japan many times, 3 stars are best I can give..
E. H. P.
This is a fab ramen spot - we and our kids love it. Top marks to staff member Adda who gave us wonderful service today particularly when my chatty daughter mentioned it was recently her birthday! Thank you for the extra treat!
L. m. p.
Delicious ramen 🍜 very good price!!
They also have an app payment system.
L. 2.
Delicious chilli prawn ramen, friendly staff, a bit crowded but cozy.
K. M.
Ordering at the table through the app ( and having to se up yet another account to do so) was a bit fiddly and time consuming but it was definitely worth the effort. We sampled Katsu curry ramen and gyoza- all really fresh and very authentic. Having lived in Japan for some years I can be a bit critical of these Japanese lunchtime staples, but all were great. I am a big fan of my side pickles with curry and would have liked a few more of these but otherwise can't fault it. I also like the fact although it is is chain it doesn't have that chain generic feel. The design is cool and industrial and very in keeping with the area. Staff were great too - so friendly and no 'chin nappy' wearing of masks as you get in many places now- all had good covid and hygiene awareness. It felt very safe and spacious.
G. V.
Good noodles and gypzas but the broth was missing flavour.
J. B.
Food was alright, and it’s clean and neat inside! Staffs were really kind to us. Thank you :)
C. C.
Friendly staff, great service and the food does not disappoint. A great location too! Definitely recommended
J. L.
Tasty! Best ramen i had in London, i had Geki Kara twice, loved it! It says ‘warning extra hot’ on the menu, but it’s not that spicy at all - it could be me with a high tolerance of spice though. My boyfriend had tonkotsu ramen twice, but he said it tasted differently.
J. R.
Nice, clean and friendly place. They have a decent special for lunch with a small bowl of soup and an app for under 10.
I ordered the classic Tonkotsu, which at first blush was a tad light in the flavor. Letting it sit, it got better. The Spicy chicken version was very light and didn't change over time.
Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz
D. T.
Really well made raman tonkosu specifically. A bit pricy on the apps altough the cauliflower was deliousious.
L. K.
The staff there was really lovely and provided great service. The soup was too salty and the portion was bit too small for me. So overall I gave three stars.
V. Y.
Food was delicious. Everything we tried was nice and tasted really good.
Staff were really friendly as well. Desserts were abit weird and looked like frozen ice blocks but tasted alright.
M. L.
Really delicious ramen, looking forward to coming again. Fair portions, good sides, excellent service
C. D.
Fast and easy experience. I arrived before 6pm, was seated immediately. I had to use a scan code to access the menu. I ordered what I wanted (soya tantamen ramen!), paid online and the food was brought to me within 10/15minutes! Warm and tasty ramen.

What a gem.
The restaurant has the buzz and vibe that I associate with a ramen joint.
The food was excellent, the broth on their Tokyo ramen was very well balanced. Each ingredient played off each other.
If you visit the Tate Modern stop by here for food after.
B. N.
Place is spacious with both indoors and outdoors seatings. Very clean and you can order using QR codes so it saves time and interaction. They have a variety of ramen and some funky flavours like prawn. Good quality.
P. O.
The food and staff were amazing. We ordered so much food. The chicken katsu is very bland, it has no seasoning at all which is a shame. I got the curry pumpkin ramen with chilli chicken and a shot of pepper sauce. I totally recommend, make sure you ask them to make the broth thick (it makes a big difference to the flavour)
M. A.
Excellent service, tasty food and a great space.
J. Z.
Great in the atmosphere but the service is not that friendly and comfortable maybe because of the rush hour. It has traditional ramen but also creative ones if you prefer something special. The dish size is comparably large. My friend and I ordered 2 ramen and 2 sides even didn’t finish them all.
B.
Nice environment, not huge but feels spacious. I always manage to get a table here easily during the day, although in the evening you may have to book. Current set up means you can order online in advance or from the QR code on the table.
Menu is pretty much the same as the other branches but there are one-off specials. Around January they did this amazing soupless special with pork mince and egg yolk. It was so good and so overwhelmingly savoury I almost couldn't finish it.
D. v. V.
First timer at Tonkotsu but definitely not my last... went there on a team lunch for some delicious food! I really rate the lunch menu which offers another side for almost the same price - definitely great value for money. I had the veggie mushroom ramen which was absolutely divine, such great flavours! Have already recommended to all my ramen loving friends.
D. W.
It’s a shame this only got three stars as I quite enjoyed by my GF didn’t. We started with wings which were crispy and tasty but the main of ‘Seafood’ was average. My GF said it lacked flavour and actually could not finish as she felt sick eating it, I thought it was decent and particularly enjoyed the large king prawns although the popcorn shrimp wouldn’t be something I would get with the main again (it comes included). The ginger soda went down well also, probably wouldn’t recommend.
J. B.
First time at tonkotsu and will definitely not be my last. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Their own beer, brewed in collab with Magic Rock was a superb light pale. The actual ramen was also brilliant, with a delicious broth and incredibly delicate noodles. I had a hybrid of slightly different pork within their standard pork dish and loved every mouthful.
S. P.
Great atmosphere, great friendly service, and fresh tasty food. A perfect please to visit before watching a performance at the Turbine Theatre. Definitely recommend!
I. R.
Loved the ramen, tasted nice and fresh. The broth was amazing. Location is okay and staff friendly. Prices very low compared to London standards.
R. S.
First time at tonkotsu, was a good experience and nice change from larger chains. On business and staying around the area and looked for something quick but decent. I got the chilli chicken ramen with extra bamboo shoots, bean sprouts and chicken. Very full at the end of the meal. Would recommend.
P. L.
It was great! Love their Tonkotsu Ramen and Karaage, always get extra egg and pork - sooo tasty! 🤤 No pictures, all gone 🍜😎
B. C.
Popped in for a quick (late) lunch around 2.30pm. Was mostly empty. Service was quick and friendly.
Tried the lunch set menu of gyoza and small ramen.
Underwhelmed by both dishes - but a great option for a quick lunch for £10.
T. F.
Relaxing place with pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Good location. It is perfect for people who value Japanise cuisine, especially for ramen lovers. I have tried Tokyo Ramen here and now I find it the best that I ever had! Fantastic. I recommend this place
D. H.
Super lovely place. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was super delicious, my favorite was the Tokyo ramen. Definitely recommended.
G. G.
Excellent and flavoursome food, served quickly too. Sat outside on a sunny day and the setting is lovely, with trees overhead and the Tate Modern in viewing distance. All in all, a tasty and reliable ramen.
P. A.
Great value Japanese food! The menu isn't over-complicated and allows for the addition of things like prawns and kimchi for a small cost. The mains are all in the £10.0-£12.0 range which is great and it's definitely value for money because the ramen is a huge portion. There's also several varieties of sake available which pairs nicely with the ramen.
Food arrives relatively quickly and tastes really fresh and flavourful. I took my brother here, who is usually reluctant to try new things, and he really enjoyed his ramen and the chicken katsu side dish.
I'll definitely come back next time I'm in the area!
M. d.
Friendly staff. Very nice ramen. Perfectly balanced broth, tasty pork and the egg was awesome. Will be coming back when in London. Thanks :)
J. K.
Been there with friends to warm up our evening after a long walk in the city. Second time goin there however the ramen was a bit too salty served to my friends. Mine was ok. Love the chicken karage though. Great atmosphere.
K. v. d. V.
The ramen broth, egg and meat were REALLY tasty! That would've been 5 stars for sure!
The dumplings were ok and had a dessert with a lot of Nice sounding ingredients including guinness, didn't taste anything over the salty caramel in there unfortunately.
If you like ramen, definately go here!!
L. H.
Great experience, authentic ramen and cozy atmosphere. I picked the special dish Mazesoba and I was not disappointed. The raw egg yolk adds smoothness and creaminess to the dish and the pork belly with minced pork compliments the noodles and the sauce perfectly.
V. V.
Honestly, my hopes for this place were very high and it did not seem to quite reach it. There was a subtle flavor that ramen broth holds that packs a punch to the pallete that Tonkatsu was just missing. Great service though.
D. J. M. L.
Delicious pumpkin noodles soup!!! Sooo good! The mochi ice cream is a great dessert we choose green tea, mango and raspberry. The ginger soda is tasty too. Great place for small groups or dates. Very friendly
L. P.
Ada was an exceptional waitress who deserves special mention, she helped make our evening there really wonderful!
The food was great as always.
F.
Delicious Ramen, homemade and fresh with a little bite. The taste of the soup was amazing, the ingredients not overcooked and spicewise very well balanced. Really loved it a lot!
Clear consideration. The place is nice and the meals range from a quick Ramen to an extended nice deal.
In all cases, try the Kimchi next to it!
A. G.
If you like Ramen go for it! It is not my favorite in London but it is really good.
The sweets are handmade by another company but they are authentic Japanese.
C. D.
Favorite Ramen place in London. Staff is always very friendly. Ramen is always very good. Tried so many other places but in the end, I end up disappointed and wished I'd come here instead. On the photo below is my favorite starter - Spicy Korean Chicken Wings, usually followed by their Tonkotsu Ramen.
W. N.
Flavorful ramen with tasty house noodles. My Tokyo Ramen was a mild yet enjoyable dish, just as described by the waiter. Servers were competent and friendly.
A. B.
The mushroom miso ramen was tasty and full of flavor; good option for vegetarians. The salad was also tasty, but not worth the price for the small amount.
H. L.
As someone who works for "competitors" Shoryu Ramen I have to say this is a great place with good service and quality ramen! As a ramen lover I am happy to have this many competitive Ramen restaurants in London!
J. C.
Fixed price £9.95 lunch menu (an extra £1.95 to upsize your ramen) includes a bowl or ramen plus a side of gyoza. Good value, but inexplicably leaves out their signature tonkotsu ramen.
J. L.
2nd time here and great experience again. The staff are really friendly and service is great. Very helpful with baby and pram. (Weekend afternoon).
Food was delicious each time we have been.
M.
Very authentic tonkotsu ramen. The chili oil on the table was a great addition although it was not excessively spicy. The pork gyoza were very good but a touch gummy. The Kirin Ichiban pints were very good and fairly priced. Noodles were cooked to a perfect doneness. Highly recommend Tonkotsu Bankside if you’re looking for a break from pub food.
A. N.
This ramen soup was food for soul!
L. P.
Best service we have received at this Tonkotsu Bankside. We are regular customers, but our experience today had prompted me to write a good review for this restaurant. There was an African-ethnicity waitress (hair in a bun) who served us today. She cleaned the table thoroughly, guided us patiently and clearly on using the online app to book and checked on us (usually if you sit outside, you'd have been neglected) to see if we required anytime else. The best services we have had so far at Tonkotsu.
J. H.
Enjoy the thick soup. The presentation worked as well. Just the noodle was soft and not chewy.
C. J.
Amazing Broth and excellent prices. They make a house hot sauce that you can buy in a jar, and you should, to take home.
J. D.
Delicious ramen!! Highly recommended. If you're a large group, make a reservation. Otherwise brilliant
M. P.
Ramen here is always delicious and the chilli oil is top quality. Service is also mostly through mobile website which is super efficient and the staff was very helpful. Definitely a bargain
T. S.
Delicious ramen.
H. K.
Went a few days ago with a friend and loved it! Fresh food, opposite a lovely bar, smiling faces, highly recommend!
B. B.
Limited menu supplemented with additional blackboard daily options.......it works though.
Once choices are ordered, the aim is to have them presented at your table within 15minutes.....and that is achievable.
Lovely large bowls filled with flavoursome options.
High level of customer service in a calm and casual atmosphere. Just drop in, if you are in the neighbourhood.
Thanks to all staff.
A. H.
Having been with a Japanese friend a few times, I can confirm that the ramen is very authentic! The options are limited if you can't eat pork, but the chicken option doesn't fail to disappoint. The prices are reasonable at about £12 per bowl (not including any service charges), although, unless you add some extras, the portion won't be sufficient if you are very hungry. Adding extra eggs is rather pricey at £1 extra for half a ramen egg or £1.50 extra for a whole once.
Their homemade chilli oil was a lovely little discovery. It's delicious, with a very clean and pure taste compared to Chinese alternatives. I now use it spice up all sorts of dishes, and I strongly suggest any visiter to pick up a jar!
Where Tonkotsu Bankside has really shone is with regards to integrity. I mistakenly left an expensive camera in the restaurant. In a state of panic, I called up to ask if they had it. Not only did the manager describe the camera and confirm that it was picked up, but reassured me that it was kept in a safe and that I was free to pick it up anytime during opening hours. It had been a very long day so I wasn't able to pick it up until the next day. The next also panned out the be very busy, however, upon calling the restaurant, the manager confirmed that I could pick up the camera shortly after closing hours as long as someone was in. Collecting the camera was a very simple process - I simply walked into the restaurant and asked for it; the waiter immediately went to fetch it.
All in all, I highly recommend Tonkotsu Bankside, whether it's for the authentic ramen or even just the homemade chilli oil!
J. C.
Ramen was to die for. One of the best ramen i have ever tastedn
K. L.
A very good bowl of ramen, lip puckeringly savoury soup base with noodles that have that hint of chewiness to them. The tonkotsu was quite generously topped with pork belly and that gorgeous runny egg. All in all, it's a very good branch of a growing chain of ramen shops and they offer takeaway!
J. C.
First time I had ramen and it couldn’t have been at a better place. The portions size was quite large and filling, it tasted amazing and was definitely worth the price. The tea they have was also quite good, a lot better than what it is at some cafes around. Will definitely be coming back.
嘤.
Quick lunch menu is £9.95 with a small Ramen and a side. Raman was great with a generous portion of pork belly.
S. G.
Must visit for Tonkotsu fans! The service is good and entirely contactless to adhere to social distancing. Food is delicious and portions are generous!
M. L.
This was excellent. Almost as good as eating ramen in Tokyo. They have their noodles down to perfection. Marinated egg was also perfectly soft boiled.
K. C.
Good service. Had the tonkotsu ramen, good portion but nowhere near enough soup. Barely covered the noodles. Same for the other 3 ramen that my friends ordered.
M. C.
Great Ramen with a rich broth, the seasoned egg is an excellent addition. I would also recommend the Satsuma pale ale. Good service and followed covid protocols.
V. W.
New around Bankside community and one day walked around with my mum. Came across this Japanese fusion Ramen place. we sought to check it out and we were greeted by a staff worker who explained us on how to order and what kinds of variety of other foods there are. She was really nice and patient. I can describe her as a quite enthusiastic person.
Food quality wise I would say in London its one of the best. The Ramen was still hot even I took it back to my home to eat. Lots of places I end up having cold food when I'm back home. Thanks!
H. A. N.
I had a Tonkotsu ramen and for me, the broth was too fatty. Satisfied with the service, waiters were really friendly.
C.
Great place for some very nice late night food. Ramen firmness was spot on. Nice, friendly staff too!
Would be great if japanese mayo came with the karaage (maybe it does but I didn’t ask?)
K. C.
Quick service, great spot for lunch. The original tobkotsu is best with their signature creamy pork broth. Gluten free rice vermicelli is available
A. B.
Great ramen for those who hate spiciness. Most of their ramen are completely spice free. But for me they were a bit too spice free, salt free and bland.
M.
Great variety of food and really nice staff! Especially great in summer when you can sit outside after a tate modern visit.
玄.
Good :) Nice selection of beer as well.
C. H.
Very good ramen, nice thick broth and perfectly cooked egg. Delish!
M. H.
The tonkotsu was delicious. It had such a good depth of flavour that the only thing I felt it needed was a bit of spice to liven it up a little. The staff here were great and the atmosphere was good. They have seats for single people, so you can eat and read a book (which I did)
N. W.
It's a good size restaurant, service was fast and the staff are friendly. They helped me understand the menu items and gave hints on how to bring the flavours out
O. M.
The ramen was very good, I really enjoyed it. We also got some complimentary cucumber water for free.
J.
not too pricy, seemed selfmade, was absolutely delicious. i‘ll be back 🥰
R.
Food was delicious and the app to order is so easy to use.
L. T.
Solid, reliable ramen. Tonkotsu is the signature dish but check out their specials too!
K. C.
Tonkotsu ramen was great, so thick and rich. A little too rich for me though and I couldn't finish. Not a bad thing tho. All in all terrific me!
J. A.
Tried out their new ramen, such amazing broth!
J. J.
Pretty good ramen with quick service.
J. D.
Went yesterday evening. Their covid 19 measures are now becoming "annoying and unpleasant" in my own point of view, the food was fairly good but, having to create an account on my mobile with a password, then order the food on the app, then fill in your credit card details, etc was a real pain for me and my partner...!
I thought about a dessert, but couldn't bother to order online again........... So I didn't have one.
I am going to eat out for moving away from my mobile and my screens, not for having to go back into it for having a meal.!
Additionally, the Deliveroo bike left at the entrance wasn't a pleasant start. The "protective screens" between the tables are also becoming pointless and ridiculous, I would have rather like for the cleanliness of the toilets to be improved in all fairness...... :-/
J. L.
Nice ramen. The spicy kake is super hot (I like it), and the tonkotsu ramen is good as well.
K. W.
Lots of vegan options, very tasty soya tontonmen and kimchi. Lots of seating for individuals so good spot for ramen and reading. Perfect for after gym ramen!
N. R.
Loved it so much we went here twice in one day!
k.
Ordered over the deliveroo last night. The food was so good I've just ordered it again! The portions were perfect and the food tasted fresh and flavoursome. It could have been more hot, but it's my personal preference since I like everything boiling hot. My partner enjoyed the food and he's not even a fan of ramen. Thank you, and can't wait for my second delivery in a minute!
V. P.
Okay ramen, friendly staff. The only major downside and the reason for the 3 stars is forcing customers to order by their online app and consequently given sensitive information (credit card details) and pay in advance for a service that hasn't been provided.
C. G.
By now, is not only about the food, but level of attention and atmosphere. We visited Tonkotsu with a friend and the staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Ramen [chilly chicken] was an amazing meal, full of delicious flavours and a perfect portion.
R. H.
N. A. E.
Super tasty ramen. Deep aromatic flavors and fresh ingredients. Staff are friendly and will be happy to help you navigate the menu if you don’t know what you’re looking for or if you have particular dietary requirements.
O. W.
I love this place but I think it loses a star on their Katsu Curry, not the most authentic flavour. The ramen however is 5 stars for sure, the best I've had in London so far (I would recommend the Masesoba or the Tokyo). The Tonkotsu could be more flavourful, but can't nail them all!
I. M. A.
We arrived to this restaurant casually and such a discover. Definitely the best ramen I have tried in long time. Really tasty noodles, the meet and the soap. Nice restaurant with nice staff.
The only bad point for me but not enough bad to reduce the starts is the fact that we were seat in a common table. I am not a fan of share table when I am trying to have a conversation with my partner.
f.
Great chicken curry. Polite and helpful service. Nice interior
L. D.
The food was great with great service. The chicken wings are stunning!
S.
We had the three times of ramen: Japanese mushroom miso and Yasi curry (both vegan) as well as the Tonkotsu ramen.
We loved them all, they were so delicious and we adored them! Would 100% come again and recommend it to everyone
V. D.
Staff were attentive and service quick and efficient. Food was tasty although they didn't have the padron peppers I was looking for but these things happen. Menu could be a bit more extensive for the mains but this is not necessarily a bad thing.
Did not have desserts but the ice cream moon looked good and other good options on the menu. Worth a visit.
Z. O.
Best affordable ramen I've had out of Japan in a while. Their mazesoba is a special you can't get at any of the other chains and it's off the charts good... Also the new spicy ramen is a great addition to the menu - and it's actually spicy!
L. O.
BEST service, been here a few times, always the same lady, Tonkatsuu is sooo good!
I. L.
Pretty good ramen in a decent location. I remember getting lots of seaweed either as a side or part of the dish which was nice. Prices were alright, especially for London. Nothing special but a fair choice for a moderately quick lunch or dinner. I slightly prefer wagamamas nearby though.
李.
Very delicious food and reasonable price. Best choice after visiting Tate Modern.
E. L.
It was so good! Chill chicken is my favorite.
R. L.
very good ramen, tasty, good atmosphere
J. S.
Nice Japanese restaurant in the city centre. Noodles are not home-made, as usual outside Japan. Meal taste good, but it can improve to reach the real Japanese flavour.
J. F.
Great ramen and accompaniments. Fine (and sharpish) umebushu cocktail. Relatively uncrowded. Subtle and appropriate service.
Z. T.
Situated amongst multiple business buildings, this little eatery serves up decent food (for UK standards) at a reasonable price, with fast friendly service.
I had the basic Tonkotsu Ramen, which was served with pork belly chashu, bamboo shoots, half a flavoured egg, and spring onions. The broth was not very flavourful, but passable. I'm not sure if this is to cater to local tastes, but a more authentic preparation would require longer simmering times for the pork bones which creates a thicker broth.
The chashu was average. It's what one would expect from a slice of pork belly, but that's about it. They seem to have done the flavoured egg correctly however: well-seasoned firm whites with a nice runny yolk.
On the table you will also find a dish of their homemade chilli 'sauce' (more a thick puree) which I really enjoyed. The main ingredient I was able to discern in this (well, aside from chilli) was vinegar. This complemented the ramen and broth very well, and I found myself heaping spoonfuls of it into my bowl. I believe you can buy this sauce separately too, should you wish to.
Service was decent: waiters/tresses are attentive, extremely polite, and quick to replace empty jars of water. There isn't much of a wait for your food to arrive too, making it perfect for the lunch hour. You can expect to wait no more than 10 mins from time of order for your ramen to arrive.
At only £11 average for a bowl of ramen, this is quite the bargain. I believe many who haven't tried better elsewhere will find themselves coming back here often as it is indeed, pretty good value for your money.
S.
Really lovely ramen and the service is good too. I think their noodles are made in store (or in their sister branch) and you can certainly taste the difference. The desserts are tasty. Always seems really quiet in here however.
R. G.
An absolute delight to your tastebud sensibilities. I had the opportunity of having one of their speciality ramen with a side of scotch bonnet sauce. The heat was perfect, the spice was excellently balanced and overall the experience spelled a rich and hearty meal. Went there several days in a row to satiate my appetite. A must visit place for any ramen lovers. Cheers!
J. B.
Such a good spot. Serving staff are knowledgable about the menu and add to the comfortable atmosphere, and it's easily the best ramen I've had. A good lunch menu option makes large parties easy to get everyone settled and ordered without the usual half-hour it takes for a lot of people to decide, and drinks prices aren't bad for a central London restaurant.
H. P.
Decent Ramen but better sides and beer. I've had beet Ramen at Shoyru and Bone daddies, but the fried chicken was delish and the gyozas were fantastic. In contrast my husband had a dryer ramen that was a special and said it was the best he had! Best to book as it gets busy on the weekends, however places turn over fairly quickly
R.
Always busy but friendly and helpful staff do their best to sort a table. Quite cramped. Good value set lunch and decent ramen. The ice cream sandwich is an unexpected treat.
L. D.
Amazing Ramen and that too Vegetarian friendly!!
V. F.
Very good cost opportunity match. We had a ramen with a starter plus water for 16£ each. The ramen was good even if the gravy was very fat! The taste was good anyway. Service is super.
C. A. (.
The ramen here was very good!
J. T.
I got the Tonkotsu ramen. The broth was a little strange...very creamy and thick as if it had fermented milk added to it. It was very difficult to drink the soup. The noodles were cooked well but the overall experience was lacking. Chicken karaage starter was delicious with the perfect crunch. I prefer Shoryu ramen to here.
M. V.
I had a good time here. Their special ramen for the week was fantastic. If you're looking for spicy food you might think of adding a lot of their special chilli oil - I added almost the whole bowl and still wasn't spicy enough.
R. S.
Nice, clean an place. Not too loud. Reasonable price and portions quite large.
M. C.
The waiter made such a good impression on us. He was not only friendly but had a good humour. We chatted to him for sometime and ended up ordering some of his recommendations. And it was delicious. I wish I would remember his name. It's not often you talk about service after you leave the place. But this guy earned it.
T. D.
This was my first visit to a Tonkotsu, I was very impressed. An interesting menu with more provision for spicy food lovers than many Japanese, but with the informal atmosphere of a ramen bar. Nice draught beer too.
f. s.
Very snazzy place, the food is outstandingly tasteful. I've personally had the Mazesoba Ramen...just wow!!!! The waitress that welcomed us, Ada, was a pleasent and attentive prensence that introduces us to the menu and have a lot of patience and courtesy!
M. C.
Some of the best ramen I've had
J. C.
Fantastic selection of ramen dishes - it might seem limited to some but the very point of ramen restaurants in Japan is to offer limited selection and a reasonable price, fast! All round good Tonkotsu.
The staff were particularly helpful and accommodating to a group member who was allergic to a particular ingredient.
D. F.
Great place! Food is always fresh and delicious and great friendly service. The covid measures struck us as very appropriate. We felt safe and were able to enjoy our meal.
B. S.
Highlights for me were definitely the mochi icecream moons! Ramen is pretty good.
S. P.
One of the best ramen I tried here in London
S. E.
Nice atmosphere and staff... but overpriced for the small quantity of meat/veg in ramen. Broth not very complex in flavour...tea stained egg bitter, noodles chewy... just a bit average for the price innit. If I'm paying £11 for ramen and £4.50 for a pint it better be good.
R. A.
Dishes were ok, nothing extraordinary even with the recommended one. Probably the waitress should not pop over every minute to ask if we were ready to order, though I understand that it could work for those in a hurry. Good service overall, happy to come back.
S. F. L.
Went there after work around 530pm on a Wednesday - not busy at all.
Food wise pretty good. I always find tonkotsu an unusual taste and this one we had was thick and very porky - The missus liked it but not for me. I had seafood ramen which was 7/10. Probably too much noodle and not enough fish to be honest but still flavoursome. We also had the Gyoza to start which was quite expensive for what it's worth - 5 Gyoza for £5.45 ish.
M. B.
Back when Tonkotsu opened its first site in Soho it was a complete revelation to me, the first proper ramen I'd eaten in the UK. I've been addicted ever since and have had countless meals at various Tonkotsu's, none more so than Bankside. It would get five stars but attention to detail has deteriorated. It's just not quite as good as it used to be. However it's still good value and delicious food, deep broths, good noodles, all round worth a stop.
G. D.
My favourite Japanese noodle bar, which focuses only on ramen (no sushi, no rice bento, etc.). The noodles are freshly handmade in house, and the soup has a rich taste. The restaurant is usually not too busy, even during peak time. The price for a ramen range from £10 to £14, which is fair. Remember to ask for a discount if you are a student.
M. T.
Lovely staff, the food is always nice!
C. G.
Very quick and polite service. Food comes out fast. The tonkotsu ramen I had wasn't 100% to my taste, the bamboo shoots overpower the flavour for me, but the thin noodles were wonderful.
12.5% service charge is included in the bill, just to keep in mind :)
I'd like to come back and try the miso and shimeji ramen
P. W.
Very good but not as good as Shroyu ramen. The egg is unbelievable though - order extra!
A. D.
I've tried most ramen shops in London and this is my favourite. I always get the regular tonkotsu in whatever restaurant I visit as I think this is the best judge of a ramen shop. I find that this place has the best 'full mouth feel' broth as it's rich and creamy, and the pork has a good flavour. As good ramen shops do, you can order your noodles cooked to whatever firmness you wish. I'm yet to visit Japan so can't compare and judge authenticity to places there, but this place is my favourite in London.
A.
A bit of a commercialised Japanese ramen place, with creamy soup broths. But that isn't a bad thing as I have discovered, now I add cream or milk to my soup broths at home and it's a great innovation. May not be to everyone's tastes but I love it. Very good hearty tasting food.
A. T.
Had the Tonkotsu ramen and chicken Karage, which was alright but nothing special.
A. A.
Amazing food and the staff was outstanding! The waiter gave us free Mochi because we were waiting for it to stop raining outside.
So considerate! Thank you :)
N. W.
Food was not too bad. Friendly service and decent value for money
R. H.
Great ramen! 16 hour pork was a touch too much collagen for me - but a quick shake of the rice vinegar and it's perfection. Nice quiet patio area.
J. L.
Good price and atmosphere. A but on the salty side.
M. P.
Great value for money in this ramen restaurant, with a friendly staff and a great location (a stone throne's away from Tate modern and the riverside). The 16 hours pork ramen was very tasty; fair portion, but I could have eaten more.
A. L.
The miso ramen for veggies was at best ⭐️ but service, starters and dessert was good. The style of ramen just wasn't right and there was very little miso taste, in fact it was bland. My companion however had a very meaty ramen with very bouncy style noodles so he was very happy with his dish. We tried two of the desserts. Mochi ice cream and the Guinness cake with salted caramel ice cream. I liked the Mochi which came in a couple of flavours to choose from including matcha and yuzu. I found the latter dessert too rich. Good for sharing however.
D. A.
Amazing food, fantastic service and great location near some of London's best culture hotspots. If you love Japanese food - or food in general, be sure to stop by here for a delicious bowl of ramen. Ask for an 'egg yolk' on the side to drop into your bowl - believe me, it tastes incredible! 👌
L. L.
I've been there many times and I love their ramen. It's also a baby friendly place, conveniently located behind the Tate Modern and close to Blackfriars Station and not so far from London Bridge.
H. L.
Good food for me, I come again! Thank you x
J. S.
Great service, great staff, great food!
D. G.
Got takeaway, great tasty ramen!
S. S.
Lovely place. Great ambience, great food. Servings are generous. The staff is sincere and diligent. A delightful place. They even let me taste different wines for free before I made my choice.
D. H.
Great:
- You can dine solo at their bar, which is totally normal and you won't feel weird!
- They also have two-person tables.
- The tonkotsu ramen itself is really tasty, with very tender pork (not the tenderest ever but more than adequate!) and yummy broth
- It came mega quickly, I suppose they have a huge pot of it going at all times
- Really nice high-quality chopsticks
- The staff were friendly
- You can see into the kitchen to thank the chefs, always a nice touch
Not so great:
- One of the soft drinks is fever tree ginger beer for £2.25. For that price, I'd expect a full-sized bottle, but they give you a mixer-sized one. I'd recommend replacing the fever tree with a good ol' Fentimans.
- The noodles were a little undercooked for my liking
- I think the tonkotsu ramen, while really nice, was a little overpriced. The ingredients aren't that expensive, they clearly make it in huge amounts and I think it'd be a really great hook on the menu if they could get the price below £10 (at time of writing it was £11)
D. G.
Nice ramen, had the Tonkotsu which had a really creamy and rich flavour to the soup. Also had the chicken wings - quite a big portion for the money and pretty tasty. Worth a look!
D. S. d. R.
Some of the nicest ramen around. Tasty dishes, reasonable prices and a warm atmosphere. They also have a selection of Japanese whiskeys for those who prefer it over Scotch or Bourbon.
J. E.
Ramen made with a bit of love. Good range of meat and veggie options. Had a lovely plum liqueur and prosecco cocktail too. Friendly, efficient service.
W. R.
Amazing meal and super cosy!! Look forward to eating here again.
G. C.
The menu has a nice variety and is fairly priced. The general atmosphere of the resturant is great and the service was top notch. However, on my second visit, it did feel as if I was being rushed out of the restaurant so that they could clean the table, etc. Despite being the only customer in the establishment at 4pm.
G. V.
Convenient lunch spot with family and friends when visiting the Tate Modern: tasty ramen served in a rich stock. I wish though that they had more vegetarian options.
K. L.
Great ramen place! We stayed at a hotel nearby and we're craving ramen. Wasn't a big fan of the chicken dumplings but the ramen was the main event. Very flavorful and soft noodles
N. D.
Good ramen and a pleasant vibe even with a reduced capacity for covid. Special shout out to the staff who were really great with social distancing and cleaning.
R. P.
Amazing food and friendly staff. Will definitely be returning here!
B. H.
Love this place. The best ramen I know. Tonkatsu ramen is very tasty. Good for after work meal. Great service and a nice atmosphere. Simple menu done well.
M. P.
Tasty food, calm environment, reasonably priced and great ramen. It’s practically the only thing on the menu. Don’t bother spending extra on the katsu chicken side dish.
H. A.
Great food. Everyone loved it.
A. N.
Defiantly the best Ramen in London!
Fast and friendly service from nice people.
Thanks!
H. L.
Really nice atmosphere, service was chill. The vegan option is just alright - broth was a bit bland and noodles were forgettable. A more interesting option for the Bankside.
L. F.
Had the chicken katsu curry after seeing the picture online. Lived in hawaii for 6 years and this place took me back. My kid got a side and the katsu sauce was a bit off, too much worcestershire, not enough soy sauce/brown sugar, but overall very tasty. Hit the spot.
A. D.
Tasty ramen for around £10 served by friendly staff in a nice modern space. Short menu but the dishes are well executed.
Good drinks list.

I. Y.
Excellent, service was quick and friendly! Love it❤️

Had the Tonkotsu Ramen named after the restaurant. The broth omg the pork broth is silky smooth. The spiced egg was heavenly and the hand made noodles sprung in a way only hand made noodles can. Will be back again & again & again....
J. T.
I had the lunch menu, I ordered the Tokyo Ramen with pork gyozas, it was delicious, I only wish the portion was bigger, the staff were nice, it was quite busy so go at a quiet time.
S. R.
Enjoyable Ramen in a very nice setting. Had the Tankotsu and didn't disappoint. Broth was delicious but maybe could have had a little more by way of toppings.
B. F.
I go there for couple of years now, tried various ramens restaurants, but it seems they are the best in town. The price is very reasonable and it’s tasty
L. M.
My favourite Ramen place outside Japan. Great Tonkotsu, all waiters are very sweet, blazing fast kitchen. Perfect for lunch time
S. H.
Good but not great. Good enough to satisfy your rainy day, something-warm-in-the-belly craving, but not outstanding flavors or setting. I'd come back for quick lunch but not something I would go out of my way to seek out.
B. L.
New branch of Tonkotsu trading since Autumn 2015, also probably the only good ramen restaurant south of the river at the time of writing.
Tonkotsu ramen up to the standard of the rest of the branches with rich and flavoursome broth. Staff helpful and responsive even during busy lunch hour.
The special dish of the branch is a 'Taiwanese' spicy mice port ramen which took its inspiration from the Chinese Dan Dan Mien. Pretty neat.
R. K.
Best ramen in town. The staff is lovely and makes sure you have a lovely moment. Don't forget to order the gyozas!!
M. M.
Very good ramen!
M. G.
The food was very good. We went in a bit of off hour after lunch rush but before dinner and the service was not stellar because they all seemed to be busy with preparing but the food was tasty and I would return.
P. A.
Tonkotsu ramen had delicious pork broth and great noodles — an outstanding bowl of ramen.
Good house beer as well!
L. S.
Menu not too crowded, every dish I've tried has been great. Vegan options hold up on their own (am not vegan).
L. C.
This is a one of my regular eating places when I visit London. I love the ramen here. They also serve a nice selection of craft beers.
L. M.
Lovely fresh ramen dishes including monthly and seasonal specials. The 'Eat All The Bits' seasoned chilli oil is sensational - this time I bought 3 jars for home
V. B.
Delicious ramen near Tate Modern. Quick and friendly service. Had a kids menu and lots of high chairs available. Very clean bathrooms.
A. P.
Very delicious seafood ramen.
l.
Pretty great restaurant based on tonkatsu and ramen with a really nice lunch menu. Flavours are pretty good, prices are great and service fast. Definitely worth trying!
M. M.
Incredible ramen, and nice beers (including kernel). I'm partial to the chilly oil. Very highly recommended overall. They also do take away.
M. B.
Good powerful tonkotsu broth. Was quiet on a Saturday, think training some new staff for the weekday rush. Chicken wings really tasty. You will eat all the bits.
H.
Tasty food and situated very conveniently next to Tate Modern. They were able to cater for my egg, nut and sesame allergy very well, and the interior design of the restaurant is also very good.
A. A.
Authentic. Quite close to real stuff that you get in Japan
K. L.
Pretty tasty though the tonkotsu soup was a bit too creamy for my liking. Just personal preference. Karage was tasty. Would go again.
Y. A.
One of the best ramen spots in town. Home made noodles and thier chili oil is 👌. Staff are attentive and super polite too.
M. H.
Very average. Extremely disappointed given the favourable reviews. The ramen was really bland.
M. F.
Very professional polite service. Tasty food. Not a vast menu choice but a few optiona for vegetarians. Comfortably busy for a Tuesday evening.
Y. (.
Atmosphere is nice, staff was friendly. The food tasted okay but tasted as though a whole bucket of lard had been poured into it. Not very inclined to come here again tbh.
J.
Some of the best ramen in London!

My favourite place for noodles

Beautiful ramen and to top it off with some mocha icecream was the best end of the week! Definitely recommend

Fantastic meal with quick service and friendly staff. The food is good quality and affordable, would definitely go again. I recommend the mochi ice cream, especially the vanilla flavour
J. P.
Great ramen place!

Not my kind of food, but great standing for people who enjoy it.
M. P.
Delicious ramen, good atmosphere, friendly staff. Service is fast and there is a convenient fixed price menu as an option
S. J.
Authentic and delicious ramen, great gyoza and other nice appetizers. Very friendly and fast service. Perfect before / after the Globe or Tate Modern.
S. C.
I loved the experience and the food was great for a very affordable price!
S. G.
Went last Friday and ordered the special of the day: Mazesoba ramen. I think I had a culinary orgasm. Best ramen ever.
B. M.
Nice although on the salty side, recently went to Japan and had tonkotsu numerous times which obviously was incomparable but one thing i loved there is that they also provide alot more veggies (beansprouts, spring onion) etc. But overall a decent meal and would go again.. Noodles are perfect and can really taste the difference being handmade and fresh
L. B.
We had a very meal. The gyoza were fresh, the chicken katsu was good and the ramen was excellent.
I. E.
Tasty ramen, friendly staff.
A. S.
One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London.
In here you can really forget being in London and enjoy a traditional Japanese food served with a good selection of Asian beers
B.
Great food at reasonable prices, especially quiet at the moment
E. K.
Pretty good ramen and a decent serving size. I had the tonkotsu ramen. The noodles were nice and chewy.

K. I.
Amazing food! Exception service from Ennio. Definitely coming back
J. V.
Amazing food and service. The ramen was hot and well prepared, and the goyza was very appealing.
R. L. J.
Was good overall. Wish the pork wasn't well-done in the ramen but other than that, pretty tasty. Nice date place.
E. K.
Tonkotsu is a favourite of mine. The food is always brilliant & the service is fantastic. The ramen cannot be missed!
E. A.
Good food. Suggest arriving before rush hour so 12:00 on the dot. Service was quick. Mochi ice cream is delicious.
Y. T.

It's ok. Quick service, nice food. I got the vegetarian option but it lacked veg, mainly noodles and broth for about £10

S. P.
Perfect cozy place love it
K. 9.
Very cool and cozy ramen restaurant. Loved the Yasai curry ramen. :)
R. V.
Nothing special. The noodles are quite nice but I was put off by the automatic tip added and donation for a restaurant that is serving Japanese fast food.
F. M.
Delicious ramen, great value - restaurant is really hot and stuffy though.
M. M.
Best place for ramen in London. Worth the price paid
A. R.
Ramen as its best!!

Excellent tonkotsu ramen. Warms the soul on a cold night. Kirin draft is an added bonus!

N. S.
Great place, very nice prices and food is really tasty. Should have higher rating.
A. S.
The best ramen at a good price so far.
J. D.
Top quality food, location isn't great (in the heart of dreary, corporate "Bankside", Soho and most other branches are much more pleasant) but still worth a visit for the food alone
A. O.
Ennio was amazing!!! I would definitely come back
M. S.
Amazing ramen for lunch today..I will definitely come again!
E. J.
Needs spicy options. Other than that it's pretty average. Pork belly could be juicier and meatier.
