Reviews of Trivet

The food was divine. Vocabulary cannot describe the flavours. We went for a double birthday celebration and we were delighted to have such an experience. Looking at dates in the summer to go again!
Q. D.
Awesome local gem. Amazing tender venison & pigeon was to die for!!!!! Deserts were totally worth it and the wines - Turkish wines was amazing! I smell a Michelin star!
J. G.
Dual experience. I ordered sweetbreads and pigeon breast and it was delicious. Both dishes were full of flavor and very well executed. My wife ordered the mushroom pasta and the turbot. The pasta was really disappointing. The turbot was ok without being distinctive. We ordered some Armenian wine that was great. The service also was good. Some overall a mixed experience. And if you take into account the price, I would have expected more consistency in the experience...so still some work to do!

Utterly flawless. Inventive cookery at its best. Each course one upped the last, and for me the absolute star of the show was the butter tart, I could have eaten 10 of them.
The wine selection was wonderful, we tried several of the wines by the glass and all were lovely. We were also well looked after by the delightful staff, and were lucky enough to get to meet the man himself.
Just a faultless evening that we walked away from with feelings of elation.

Folks: Try the crispy sweetbreads, please just do it. I was squeamish at first, which is ridiculous now that I have tried them and am officially a fan. The cured fish starter was alright, it tasted like delicious cured fish. For dinner I had the salt-steamed John Dory, which arrived in a mouthwatering buttery, citrusy sauce that I mopped up with every last piece of Coombeshead sourdough. Pure heaven. My husband had the duck and fries, he was similarly very happy with both. We gorged on dinner and had no room for dessert, so now we have an excuse to go back soon for that! It has been so long since I have been blown away by a meal, thank you Trivet for a flawless dinner.

With an ex-fat duck chef at the helm, standards are high.
Had a wonderful long menu here with wine pairing, second time here with Jonny in the kitchen. All dishes were very well cooked.
The lobster taglionili and the Porchetta / pork belly were standouts for me. The mains, duck with melon was strangely underwhelming and didn't work for me at all.
Best sauces in London. Always ask for more gravy.
I always enjoy the food here, however I don't feel I get the best value produce-cost wise and especially skewed with the wine pairing.
Two courses with a glass of 'house' wine however, one of the best gastro-pubs you can find in the area for sure.
Location is good with a short walk away from the tube station, nice restaurant setting and quiet, tucked away from the main streets. Good place for serious dates, with some cool bars up in the Shard close by 😉
P. P.
Really excellent ... or maybe it is because it is the first restaurant in a long time due to covid but I loved the food. Highly recommend the cured fish for starters and the saddle of lamb... I am a kiwi and even I think it was one of the best lamb dishes I have had in many years !
A. L.
Impeccable service and if you are an omnivore or pescatarian- then it’s def 5 stars. As a long time vegetarian I’d say this is more like 4 stars with the fact all the veggie options were very much plant based (which is AWESOME!) rather than processed-carb based which is extremely filling and guilt ridden. The veggie options were colourful and tasted amazing, fresh and seasonal. No complaints whatsoever! BUT a number of their desserts are not vegetarian- but they did tell us when we were ordering which ones were and were not. I so wanted to try the Hokkaido Potato dessert but that’s not vegetarian (it’s got gelatin), I would have then ordered the mango dessert but again that’s also got gelatin. So I got the pistachio and cherry tart which was divine (as expected) but I really wanted to try the signature desserts... hopefully the chef will tweaks all the desserts to veggie!

Perfect cooking as you would expect from 3* chefs & superb wine, sake etc choices. Relaxed venue close to London Bridge. Legend chef & Legend Master Sommelier for a special dining experience. Back again in December 2021.

Trivet is an excellent dining experience, and a really great choice for the birthday celebration that I had planned with my fiancé. I would certainly recommend it.
The staff are welcoming, attentive and thoroughly engaged with the requirements of their diners. The food was presented to a very high quality with flavours to match, and despite a somewhat limited card, the wines were delicious.
We started with the spiced cashews and salumi to share whilst enjoying our first glasses of wine - a 2016 Turkish Boğazkere and a 2018 Argentinian Cabernet Franc. Both were a great, light choice as we settled into the evening.
For the starters we chose the cured seabass and red gurnard with toasted barley and cornsilk, and the "Dante's Pici" which was pici pasta served with Salcombe crab and Monk's beard. While the flavours were complex, they complimented each other superbly well.
The mains were the pigeon and persimmon served with spiced heritage carrots and kale, and the citrus butter poached turbet served with a confit of pumpkin, black radish and a Chardonnay butter sauce. I would not have thought that pumpkin and white fish could have worked so incredibly, but they most certainly do. While enjoying the mains, we each had our second glasses of wine - another 2018 Argentinian Cabernet Franc and a 2012 Hoya del Navio from Tenerife.
However, the "pièces de résistance" were the butter tarts for dessert.
Quite simply, it is worth visiting Trivet for these alone. As a Canadian native, head chef Jonny Lake really has brought a small piece of his homeland to central London, which was exactly what was needed from my Canadian fiancé who has sorely missed her homeland during "the pandemic years".
We shall definitely return to Trivet, and we will be taking more butter tarts home with us when we do!
C. L.
Just realised I owed Trivet a detailed review for a long time. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in London now and the home menus during lockdown were the highlights of my meals.
Jonny’s solid cooking skill is unquestionable. All dishes are focused on the food itself, with perfect texture and sophisticated flavors yet ‘down to earth’. The Ledbury used to be my favorite place for games and red meat and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is my place to go if I want some proper French dishes with a dash of Asian flavor. But now I can find both here. For me the best cooking can always bring back your happiest tasting memory in childhood and that’s what I found in the chicken soup dish at L’atelier de Joel Robuchon a few years ago (albeit I am neither French or Japanese). And I found the same in several dishes here. The artichoke and the veal sweetbreads are must try dishes (I don’t even like sweetbreads and I think the veal sweetbread here is better than most of those in France). Oh and the desert. You can have the best gelato in London here. You can tell the gelato is freshly made as it is so soft, and I had my first sake gelato here. The potato Mille Feuille is my all time favorite - the perfect texture, the not too sweet sake cream and the very refreshing subtle herby taste, I would never get tired of this. In my opinion the food at Trivet is definitely meeting the standard of any three Michelin starred restaurants.
And if you love wine Trivet is a must go place on the list. I love chatting with Isa and ask for his recommendations every time I visit. The wine list is comprehensive and there are traditional as well as exotic ones. I am a very conservative drinker (mainly focusing on Bordeaux and Burgundy, and that’s why I like Noble Rot and Noize) but this is the only place I would try to be adventurous. The recent perfect marriage between the lamb cannon dish and Philip Togin 2000 is eye opening (from someone like me who’s never like Napa).
The other element of a great restaurant is the service. Every staff here is nice and smiling and always try to help. Melissa is great at organising reservations and she is always ready to help if you have any questions. Trivet is one of the places I would come alone if I am eating out by myself (the others on my list include Noble Rot and Andrew Edmunds). Everyone would stop at your table and have a chat with you if you like a chat.
I can’t say my review comments are unbiased as I am now a regular customer but this is one of very few restaurants I would highly recommend to all my friends.
l. c.
Differentiated menu and wine list; both very high quality. The Dante’s Pici and Monkfish were spectacular. Highly recommend for a special evening and unique taste. Real gastronomy
A. N.
Charming restaurant by Fat Duck alumini with modern minimalist decor.
Our favourite starter was the artichoke. The lobster pasta starter was sadly disappointing as it was way too salty.
The main course of dover sole, duck and lamb were all delicious.
Desserts were boring , the Hokkaido mille feuille was not special as the pastry was too heavy . Cherry tart was lovely but not outstanding. Canele texture and flavour were poor.
Would return again but definitely skip the desserts.
D. G.
We visited for dinner on a Saturday night and had a lovely meal. Although at first we were worried we had made a mistake booking here, the service was slow and awkward taking 20 minutes to take our order and also trying to get us to order wine before we had seen the food menu (something others have also mentioned so please take note Trivet). Our starters were a mixed bag, the Pici was lovely but the artichoke dish was not to my liking (crunchy and sour) or what I expected given the description on the menu. However things then improved hugely, the service seemed more relaxed and attentive as we got to know the staff and the food was wonderful! The Duck was inventive and delicious, the Turbot was outstanding and the desserts didn’t disappoint either. Seems to me like a restaurant that is still finding its feet, if they manage to iron out the issues I think Trivet is certainly worthy of five stars.
C. S.
Good food, super slow service. Quite low value for money. The Instagrammable mille feuille costs 16 and is less tasty than Paul’s £5 . The 50 gr meat costs £46. On the cover feels like fine dining - but missing a few key things.
A. D.
Your friendly neighbourhood fine dining restaurant with a great front of house led by Melissa and the kitchen led by the great Jonny Lake. Precision in service and great quality food from the kitchen.
The crispy sweetbreads are a good start to the evening followed by the saddle of lamb to follow, all cooked to perfection. Finish off with the now famous 'Hokkaido Potato' and you leave with a smile on your face. Moon Drops, the 'orange wine' from Slovenia makes a great accompaniment to the meal.
Chef Jonny even took the time to talk to us about his journey to getting his own place and the vision he has for Trivet. All in all a great evening and would definitely recommend a special evening at this place.
All covid measures followed.

This was our second visit to Trivet and the service was really lacking. We waited half an hour for our first drink, an hour for our starter, and there was a ~40 minute wait between starter and main. Sadly not what you want when you're expecting Michelin star service. The food for our starters and main was top notch but the pastry on the dessert was burnt. Overall it's worth a try as the food is great but I don't think we'll be going back due to the slow service.
S. M.
Trivet is the most unconventionally exciting restaurant to have opened in London in 2019. You are guaranteed to feel like a worldly diner here, and that London is the world's most international food capital!
Trivet isn't about the molecular gastronomy or a degustation- instead, it's about a hearty 3 course meal.
It starts with the pairing of ingredients - pigeon and persimmon, artichoke and sourdough broth... the unexpected surprise ingredient is a wonderful twist and compliment to the more standard item. For example, in the desserts what was a fabulously rich, moist gianduja fondant was accompanied by a white coffee gelato that was akin to a perfect chilled single blend filter coffee...all these unusual combination of ingredients are well executed by the talented kitchen.
The innovation does not just stop with the food. The wine list...or rather wine encyclopaedia has an interesting twist giving exposure to lesser known regions such as Armenia, Georgia and Turkey. We enjoyed two excellent bottles.
Finally, the service was impeccable without the stuffiness that you would normally expect at a restaurant serving such high quality food.
D. V.
This is an amazing place where everything is perfect : people, ambiance, food and….. wines. You will be able to discuss with a very kind sommelier who will share with you his passion for wine from all around f the world. You can not miss the Tokajj which is an amazing Hungarian wine. Book your table if you want to share a very nice experience.

Great place! If you are in the neighbourhood pass from Trivet for lunch or even for a small break for cake&coffee.
Beautiful interiors and very well chosen details from cutlery to glasses.
The food is divine and the service is top class.
E. P.
Attentive and knowledgeable staff and really delicious food. Would totally recommend going out of your way to eat here. Interesting and unusual wine list from sommelier owner(?) - the dessert wine was particularly well balanced and enjoyed. Has outside space and feels spacious enough post covid.
D. S.
Wonderful food served by the honoured team. Hope they’ll get rewarded as definitely deserve a prize, had an amazing dinner.
K. M.
Utterly brilliant - beginning to end: fabulous food; spectacular wine list; excellent, friendly and informed service. Can't wait to go back!
R.
Absolutely stunning!!! Very fine ingredients with limited seasoning that honest report the original beauty of the ingredients. I’m glad to visit here after suffering from this pandemic quarantine.
I. P.
Amazing wines - really top notch!!! The food is unreal. I have never tasted so many unfamiliar tastes that feel so heart warming. One of my favorite restaurants in London - I keep going back! The duck currently on the menu is fantastic. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff, great service. Very down to earth also
S.
Had high expectations of the place after reading the reviews, unfortunately the experience barely met the expectation.
Went on a Friday evening, the staff were very friendly but the place is clearly understaffed. Had to wait to be served, and for the steak the waiter didn't ask how we would like it when taking the order.
Food is nice, good quality ingredients done in a simply way. Personally I found some of the dishes a bit too heavy and the flavour isn't very interesting. Although that's purely personal preference, could work someone else's palate perfectly.
On the other hand the wine list is very interesting. It covers a good range of regions, including some less well known places such as Turkey and Slovenia.
In summary, I would probably visit again, just for the wines with some snacks.
T.
Upscale restaurant, with a small, simple menu (4-5 selections for each course: starter, main, dessert) but each is exquisitely prepared and ingredients are fresh. Great attentive service and good wine selection! Poached roasted duck was absolutely delicious.
Best part was the lovely spacious area and big windows, makes it great for intimate groups.
J. W.
Amazing wine list with some really unusual offerings... we asked for a recommendation and the Turkish bottle we had was lovely! The food was excellent... especially the potato Mille Feuille... I would have eaten a whole bowl of the sake gelato!
P. B.
Superb food, perfect service and a spectacular wine list. Eat here; you won't regret it.
M. K.
Really really lovely. Setting is chic and minimal and the service is friendly, warm and informed. Food is excellent - the crackers are phenomenal as is the kefir butter. The scallops were nice but didn't blow us away. The shitake mushroom and freekeh dish was superb, John Dory was really nice but a little dry/overcooked. Polenta fries with gorgonzola cream so so yummy, as were the rum baba and famous potato hokkaido. Definitely worth a visit!
L. C.
Had a fantastic supper tonight. Partridge. Spoke with the chef about the preparation of the meat, astounding attention to detail. Scallops, cheese and wine superb. Had a Turkish, Greek and NZ wine. The wines were sublime. Keen to go back. Kids loved the experience and appreciated what they were eating
N. O.
We went to Trivet for a special occasion and had the most fantastic food with very friendly and relaxed service. The open kitchen allows you to see the amazing chefs like artists at work. Highly recommend!
R. G.
Really top quality food and service with friendly knowledgable staff.
Extensive and varied wine list
Light bright clean interior unlike some dark places where you can't read the menu!
F. H.
We love it here! The bar has an ambience unique to the area. We oft pop in for a leisurely glass of Isa’s mysterious bottles of wine. Sometimes we even learn something! The food is always pristinely executed and enchanting. Also.. the best ice cream in London.
t. b.
From the moment we walked in the door we were treated to the most wonderful service and attention. Having a couple of diners with us that had major food allergies was no problem for the kitchen, who still managed to blow all of us away with their exceptional food.
We opted to have wines paired for each dish, which was totally on point and only added to the immense pleasure of each course.
A fantastic experience from start to finish, the tempo of the meal was perfect, the menu was incredibly inviting and delivered to the very high expectations we all had.
So happy this is in our neighbourhood, we will be back soon!
A. E. D.
Great meal at Trivet. Special shout out to Annette and Richard for the incredible service
S. B.
Had a great dinner on the patio. As expected the wine pairings were a highlight. Can't wait until they can extend the seating time limits.
M. C.
The food at Trivet is inventive and extremely tasty. The atmosphere is relaxed with no distractions, so that the shere quality of the food stands out. The kitchen is in full view. With a choice of dishes for each course, presumably all of the same high quality, this is highly accomplished cooking.
J. S.
Amazing place and brilliant people. They have started doing take-away food to help people who are isolating. The food is spectacular and amazing quality, the venison wellington was superb. Please keep going to restaurants, even for take away food, as you would during normal times otherwise there will be nothing left once all this is over. Thank you again for such amazing food.
N. H.
Lovely modern bistro with fantastic food and a stunning winelist. Can't recommend enough.
D. L.
I was excited and, by and large expectations were met. Most impressed by the friendly and timely service. Greeting in particular was great and throughout it was all friendly and engaging. However, two of our mains were cleared before the staff realised that one of us was clearly still eating his. One of the Caneles that was brought to the table was tipped off its plate by the waiter.
The wine waiter, though really nice definitely didn't know his way around the wine list that well. It was evident that the sommellier wasn't in and that was a bit of a disappointment as we were excited about lots of the wines on offer, but they needed a lot more explaining than the willing but a bit underwhelming wine waiter we had could offer.
Starters and mains were exceptional - particularly the scallop and the chicken with vinegar sauce which was divine. The desserts were a mixed bag - the cherry and almond tart was quite heavy and the potato terrine was difficult...! The blue cheese cake and the bergamot and chestnut meringue were both great.
So, not without faults but overall would love to come back at some point in the future once things have settled.
M. N.
Back to back bangers from Jonny Lake and his team in the kitchen. And amongst the best wine recommendations from Isa Bal out front. Great to be back, and can’t wait to eat indoors.
M. U.
Excellent service and experience from the second you put your foot in the door. Lovely spacious restaurant also.
Finally... the food was incredibly tasty and full of flavour. I must say my favourite was the dessert... the name doesnt do it justice though... its “Chestnut, Bergamot and Vanilla”
E. B.
We had a lovely time here. I agree it isn't quite as polished as it should be, but it really is early days. I can see how with time this could easily be another Chez Bruce or Ledbury; a local restaurant that punches well above its weight.
They were very accomodating when i asked for a wine by the glass that wouldn't ordinarily be offered, making use of their coravin.
The food itself was mixed. By no means a let down, but some of the flavours missed the mark for me. The pici and red mullet was just too fishy for my own tastes. My friend had the sweet breads and i wish i had ordered them. The mains were good, but as someone else here observed, £38 for pigeon is toppy. The pigeon was slightly better than my iberico pork, a dish which i have eaten in many places, and of course Spain, and which can be exceptional.. Still, nothing was bad, just not exceptional..yet. As for desert, the much lauded mille feuille was just ok. The potato did nothing for me, i'm afraid. As for the bill, £230 for 2 apperitifs, 4 glasses of wine and 3 courses for lunch is a lot. One day it will be worth that, but it isn't there just yet.. I wish them every success and look forward to returning once they have found their rhythm.
F. P.
Perfectly executed food. Very friendly staff. Great unpretentious ambience. Fantastic wines. But their Not a Crispy Duck... has textures to die for. Brilliant!
T. F.
I don't know if it's the wisest thing to go to a restaurant so soon after opening. In part, one would hope the kitchen and staff are coming out of the gate full speed. Unfortunately, that was not quite the case.
Firstly, service was very slow. Our three courses for two people took nearly 3 hours. Two hours in, we had only had our starter.
The wine list is exceptional, and a great deal of effort has been put in to create a good and imaginative list. The format, the selection, and the price points was some of the best I have seen globally. All the wines we drunk were excellent. However, getting advice was a bit torturous, to the point when we went without dessert wines because the effort of getting any kind of recommendation was too much effort. For this wine list, we would have expected a sommelier to have been over to cheerily expand on this original concept, ask what we liked, and made recommendations.
The food was decidedly mixed, but the summary takeaway was that, although very technical competent, there were too many instances of poor flavour pairings. The sweetbread starter was overpowered by the sauce, which although delicious, did not lend any subtlety to the dish. The Pici were overcooked, which, I'm afraid leads to instant dismissal by Italian co-dinner, and the scallops, although nothing particularly wrong, did not have anything particularly remarkable about them either. This being said, despite the Pici, the technical side was perfect
The pigeon with persimmon main was exceptional, and certainly the standout dish, but really pushing the limits of value for money at £38. At the end of the day, it was roast pigeon. The grilled celeriac main had the temperature of a dish left out for too long, and its flavours were nothing special. Again, the spelt was overcooked.
The desserts, finally, were also a disappointment. The marron glacee were flavourless, and totally overpowered by a citrus sauce. And it is very difficult to see what additional benefit the potato has to the otherwise immaculate millefeuille.
One always wonders at the end of a meal where the strength of the chef is, and the only conclusion we can come to is roast pigeon. We were both longing for that mouthful that stops you in your tracks and makes you say 'you HAVE to try this!', but it never came.
Maybe our expectations were too high, maybe it was teething problems, but from such a high calibre team and for such a price point (£100+pp Inc wine) we couldn't help but be disappointed.
Nevertheless, I will be keeping a close eye on the experience of others in the hope that our experience was the exception. I hope for an excuse to try again.
M. B.
Very, very good. Food was exquisite, with a menu concentrating on quality rather than quantity. Very interesting wine list.
Friendly staff and a not-too-stuffy-for-comfort ambience.
P. C.
Just sensational food, plus an outstanding wine list at remarkably reasonable prices. I also loved the service by real charming humans not corporate robots. Book now while there is no waiting list.
M. W.
Best wine list in London (food is also right up there!)
R. M.
When on Saturday night for my Grandma's birthday; almost like I was dreaming. The atmosphere felt comforting as the kitchen is open, making it feel like I was involved with the kitchen. Staff very helpful, knowledgeable and funny. Food was just perfect. Dante's Pici, perfect for appetiser; not crisp duck, duck soft and has a great contrast flavor with the fermented melon. Also has crunchy wild rice on top balancing out the soft texture of the duck and finally Gianduja fondant with white coffee gelato, had a creamy peanut sauce in the middle which when perfectly with the gelato.
Will be coming back any time soon

Great service, nice food, a super selection of wife. Enjoyed!

Very strong start - wishing the best for this place. Dinner was excellent. The veal sweetbread starter and chestnut, bergamot, vanilla desert were particularly outstanding. I will be back.

It was incredible. The food was cooked with such love, quality and passion. Can't wait to go back..

Just before Lock down went to Trivet and what a lovely restaurant, service was so friendly, helpful and warm. Food was delicious & rich with good portions, all served in a light and relaxing restaurant, I was so impressed with this restaurant would definitely recommend to any foodies.
N.
Trivet was everything I dreamed of and more... the wine! The chicken with vinegar sauce! The pici starter with turbot and artichokes! The already infamous Hokkaido potato! The so-slender-they’re-barely-there glasses! The tableware! The freaking cheeeeese! Yes yes yes yes, Trivet. Also so cool that Isa Bal was on the floor, chatting to everyone and serving up the plates (I fangirled), and Jonny Lake front and centre in the kitchen. Londoners, I implore you to make a reservation.
E. B.
Service, food and wine outstanding!

We had a fantastic lunch today. I had the ribeye and my husband had the monkfish. Both really well cooked. Definitely a place to go back. They take care of details.
