Reviews of Vasantha Vilas Restaurant

Evergreen for vegetarian people, i tasted their Gobi 65 so crispy n yummy and rava dosa as well....
r. s.
I was recommended this place as "the best on the street" (and to be fair there's tough competition - but tough only in terms of social media marketing). What VV lacks in IG posts and tags it more than makes up for as East London's best kept vegetarian secret! Walking into this place is like a dream of people from all cultures and backgrounds, sitting together, enjoying good food and good company for very reasonable prices.
H. G.
This place is amazing. Every item on the South meals had authentic taste and the service was impeccable. Channa Battura was also spot on. The lady at the front desk was very pleasing. Highly recommended this place. Hope to try more items in the future.

I've been visiting this restaurant regularly for around 4yrs now and always have a yummy meal there. The staff are helpful and friendly, food is good quality and value. I'll be back soon!
(photos are of eat in and a takeaway - different meals)

Superb quality of dosa...and especially chatni of tomatoes, coconut... don't forget to have authentic filter coffee..!!
C. S.
Authentic, South Indian vegetarian dishes. We had the onion pakoda and Gobi 65 for starters, and the sambar vada, idly, parotta and the South Indian thali for mains. The food was delicious, spice levels were mild and the staff were friendly. Will be visiting again!

Very good place for breakfast. 10% more than its competitors. Service and food is outstanding. Will definitely go back. Staff very courteous.
P. R.
Super delicious food all the time.
Same quality and same taste maintained all the time, value for money and I as being a Chef recommend this restaurant for vegetarian food.
Simply Love it and feels home away from home.
M. A.
Good place for pure vegetarian cuisine. Morning breakfast to dinner wide options available based on south Indian cuisine style. Overall good food and many new dishes added in menu including delicious sweet dishes.

Just had a delivery via Deliveroo. WOW! This food brought me back to the meals I tried whilst visiting India. Authentic taste!! Loved it. Will definitely order again, and also to try the restaurant in person.
R. K.
One of the best south indian restaurants in London . Great hospitality by the team. Their tea has some magic , every time we visit Eastham , London we will always visit this place .

Best food ever go here it feels like im in india and the chutneys are legendary.
A. V.
One of the best south indian restaurants in London, located just a few steps away from the East Ham underground station. It is not very fancy or one of those 'fine dining' places, but the taste is authentic and truly south indian. The fact that it is pocket-friendly is also great! The place is well maintained and clean as well. Very efficient for people living in East London.
S. B.
Clean and tidy place, tasty traditional food, enjoyed food every time we go,though bring takeaways too, but today's visit was bit disappointing on asking extra chutney 😆was charged..
Highly recommended 👌
S. J.
I visited here with a friend, I didn't even realise it existed until he pointed it out. I had the samosa chaat, it was very hot, I'm one that can handle medium. My friend did say that many of their dishes are quite hot. If you like very hot food then this is the place for you.

Good place to have a south Indian buffet. Food is spicy. There are other normal ala carte orders as well that can be made at this place. This isnt as crowded as Saravana Bhavan, definitely worth a visit. Eating dosa is a challenge but a tasty one. The flavours are good, all freshly prepared and a very good prices. The decor is rather basic and cold on a winter day but good food nonetheless. A very good place for vegetarians and Asian kitchen lovers, Indian kitchen of curse and tasty one ! Prices are fine, service okay.

- Tasty food

Really disappointing service !!
Usually their food is good but this time, unfortunately I got my Gobi 65 burnt and tasted very bad.
S. M.
I enjoy the food here and go here every time I visit East Ham. The Pongal and vada is very delicious, which is what I have usually. Today I had an indo Chinese dish - Chilly Idly, which was also a good fusion and tasted great.
A.
Reasonable prices, great mango lassi, vada sambar to die for

Stressed/over worked staff...very slow service.....zero communication whatsoever...food is fairly good...I have literally waited there for 45 mins before they served the food...they kept telling me just 5 mins and 5 mins....
H. A.
Excellent taste and service with cheap menu prices.
B. K. R. V.
Good vegetarian food for better price and better taste.

I know by look and feel of this Restaurant seems to be small but the food was really great, me and few of my friends from North India who lives in Hyderabad and Bangalore really wanted to have some South Indian Thali and I have suggested this Restaurant, and they liked a lot, also the staff were, students who are studying and working there as part, they are always smiling and very helpful with your order
Over all great restaurant, good people, good food and special thanks to the chef's who are preparing the food
Everyone should should try foor atleast once from here if you are staying near by

Place for authentic South Indian food .. I have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lunch is freaking awesome. Once, I took my friends here for lunch when they were new to London. Those guys still thank me for showing this awesome place .

I had good food here.
S. V.
Authentic south Indian food. Very good customer service.
P. N.
This is my go-to restaurant at EastHam for authentic vegetarian snacks n food...and filter coffee!!
Its much better than the Saravana Bhavan at EastHam...for the cost, the taste as well as the customer service. 5 starssss!!!!
A. C.
Coffee is good. Dosa is good. Haven't tried other items yet.
T. V.
One of best parotta and Kuruma I had. The coffee is superb

I've not long turned into a erm relaxed vegetarian and was looking for a veggie treat for losing a stone. This was my first time in a vegetarian restaurant and it was fantastic. The decor and ambiance were a bit starchy, but the food was amazing. Definitely highly recommended.
S. N.
Authentic South Indian experience. Food was amazing!!! Lavanya served us and did an outstanding service.
Will highly recommend
S. M.
Absolutely loved the food and service was great too. My 4-year-old daughter is a very fussy either, but she loved the pooris and the Dosa. Thank you Vasantha Vilas. Will definitely be ordering again very soon.
D. G.
Nice place for a brunch , thier Mini Tiffin is really good .
s. p.
Crispy and tasty masala dosa. It was the first time in London I had masala dosa like this. Chutney was also good
m. a.
I have become a loyal customer of this restaurant. Food is really tasty and prices are fair. But to me, what makes the restaurant stand out is the quality of the service. Staff is very welcoming and smiley. They do their best to satisfy your needs and they do that with their heart. You really feel taken care of. I recommend the tiffin, a medley of different specialities.
S. R.
Taste was extremely good
Rate seems to be pretty shooted up
M. P.
Quick service and fast vegetarian food available at very good prices. The location near the Tube station is great for a quick snack on the way to/from office or to meet friends over a coffee
Many times I have visited Vasantha Bhavan Restaurant in Eastham. I tasted huge variety of Indian recipes like North Indian and South Indian recipes.
All recipes quality are good. The Recipes are really so delicious. I personally recommended this restaurant for eat South Indian and North Indian recipes
K. H.
The restaurant is very small and not real great ambience. But if someone is more focused on vegetarian food then must visit. I am big fan of the vegetable biryani they serve. It's so different and the taste is unique. Prices are quite cheap, and the service is very good. I would definitely recommend this place for a reasonable veg meal. I would definitely come back here !!!
S. S.
Good tiffin meal. Would recommend to try
P. S.
South Indian food is one of the best in town. North Indian food used to be excellent but in the last 9 months the authenticity has gone downhill and terrible.
Very average north Indian food. The time taken for cooking is way too long. There are signs of improvement though.
The ambience has improved. The restaurant has been redesigned and more seats available now. They haven't displayed their health and safety rating.
u. w.
Tasty food.. very authentic taste
T. W.
Had a lovely lunch here with a vegetarian friend. The food was amazing and flavourful. The service was efficient and polite. The bill for 2 including drinks was £12.60. Very good value. I thoroughly recommend this authentic Indian pure vegetarian cafe/restaurant.
R. J.
A very good food,we liked the taste of the food and the prices are not too high too. The staff is very polite and courteous and served very well. I wouldn't say restaurant is cozy or ambience is upscale but hey if what is served is great then that can be discounted. Overall it was a pleasure having food here.
A. F.
It was good
But not late for delivery
S. A.
Taste of food is great, but bit costly
O. S.
Been going there for years...absolutely love everything here....great taste every time..
S. A.
Very good restaurant and I really liked it and the menu is easy

Good place to have a south Indian buffet. Food is spicy. There are other normal ala carte orders as well that can be made at this place. This isnt as crowded as Saravana Bhavan, definitely worth a visit. tasty south indian food and very good service. There are a variety of dishes in all starters, main dishes. There should be more ranges of desert. Ideal for a cheap eat, very very cramped place. Not ideal for group of more than two. Food tastes surprisingly great for such ambiance. Love their Sambar & Dosai.
f. s.
good indian breakfast.. must try

Vasantha Vilas serves authentic south indian food. The dishes are made to perfection. The food was better than the more commonly known international food chains.
a. j.
I can come here anytime to have south-indian food. Loved the taste, freshness and the quality they serve along with every food you order here. Idli and dosas are must try here... which is served with 3 chutney and podi as optional... lunch buffets are good too to eat more which a throw-away price.
M. U.
Quick Service, good seating arrangement, and Authentic delicious south Indian Food, very good food portion and taste.
The place was very clean, and reasonably priced compared to other food outlets in surrounding areas, worth a visit here.
K. A.
The moment we bit into our idlys dipped in chutneys, we knew that our quest for the perfect idlys in London had ended. The idlys had a consistent spungy texture that only freshly steamed idlys retain. The chutney had that extra naughty tanginess that indicates the use of of fresh herb. The vadas were crisp, the dosa crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Everything we tasted gave us pleasure. The prices were really reasonable given the quality. The service was impeccable. The place is run by a hardworking bunch. Hidden in East Ham is the one of London's best kept secret. And we can't wait to go back.
G. K.
You will get there perfect indian food
L. P.
Good food and nice coffee
V. B. D.
Great Taste and One of the finest vegetarian restaurant.
B. K. G.
Excellent service and delicious food.
s. F.
Walked in for a snack. Taste was good but the amount of wait time to get the food served was ridiculous . Clean place. If you are hungry and want quicker service this is not the place to go.
T.
Really good dosas just like how you get at south indian restaurants.
S. S.
Awesome taste. Best price
A. M.
Authentic south indian taste, tasty and kinda pocket friendly 😉
L. V.
Vasanta has been my favourite South Indian restaurant for many years. No other places in London get closer to the freshness and quality of Vasanta. Number one!!!! My favourite dishes are paneer 65, fried idly and the super tasty indo-chino options..
l. j.
Food is fine but waiting is long
S. Z.
Best South Indian food I've ever tasted in any abroad location!! Just too authentic... And must say - consistent taste over years!! Highly recommended...
J. P.
This is the best restaurant to treat our toungue with delicious veg dishes. Nominal rates but worthy quality and quantity. I strongly recommend to have a visit to experience south Indian feast in London, especially East ham.
v. h.
This restaurant offers authentic South Indian dishes in total casual atmosphere. Located next to East Ham rail station and reasonably priced. Worth a trip with family. Brig VAM Hussain(Retd)

Good quality of food and service. Had an amazing south Indian food after long time
T. G.
Very good quality and flavorful food, tried mini idlis and plain dosa. Good masala chai too.
S. D.
Very good restaurant for authentic South Indian food. Also opens at 7am in the morning well before other similar restaurants in East Ham, which is a advantage if you want to have early breakfast.
J. s.
Early opening by 0700. Helps with breakfast if you are looking for quick start. No other restaurants open so early in the area. Quick service and clean interiors. No unnecessary filmsy decorations. A little soft classical music will be good
D. o. a. D.
Lovely south Indian cousine freshly made with an authentic south indian spice, people who like to do heavy breakfast can enjoy to their extinct. Weekends you can stuff your belly unlimited with £5. Really worth it, don't believe? Try it!😋
m. k.
Excellent vegetarian restaurant in whole East London. Tasty food and good customer service. Traditional Indian cuisine. Pongal, Idly with sambaar ,chutney are superb. Butter naan with panneer butter masala and gobi manchurian taste very good. Indian coffee and Falooda ice cream drink are must try items. Good location nearby East Ham station with nearby pay parking and free parking after 6:30pm.
B.
CLEAN & FRESHLY COOKED FOOD
We had a fantastic lunch today. Brilliant chilli mogo and pani puri followed by mini Tiffin special. Mogo was perfectly cooked with bell peppers and onions covered with a yummy sauce. Pani puri was excellent. The mini tiffin had several varities including masala dosa. The sambar is the best we have ever had. We would definitely return the next time we are in the area. We would thoroughly recommend the fine food served here.
B. M.
Awful location for an Indian restaurant, decoration is bad and the atmosphere is not very welcoming, but the food is amazing. They have a lot of vegetarian dishes for you to chose from and I just cannot believe that food can taste so good without any meat in it. Definitely worth a try.
A. M.
Nice food and place for vegetarian lovers . My favourite is Falooda 😜
P. M.
Had eaten in this place many times. The decor and service may not be the best, but you can be assured of authentic South Indian vegetarian food at its cheapest price in London. Hygiene standards have to be improve and waiters trained, otherwise they will shut shop soon.
A. J.
Good Indian, pure vegetation food. Slow service at times, but food is decent. Used to be cheaper than right now, hence 3. I would go back, although not a daily think anymore as I have more options at the same price where I stay now.
D. S.
Authentic South and North Indian pure vegetarian cuisine. Very reasonably priced and the place looks nice after a recent refurb. If you think Brick Lane is crap and want to eat proper Indian food come here!
P. G.
The food was quite amazing and the service was also quite good. There were a few things which were a little bit more expensive than what they should've been but overall it was a pleasant place for dinner.
A. K.
Had food here on new year .. totally totally worth it!!.. each and every dish which we ordered starting from idly to dosa to poori to coffee, everything was good. No masalas, pure authentic food!!!. Definitely worth going again. And the service deserves a special mention, with so many customers in the restaurant there was no fuss at all and each of the service person handled customers really well.!!!!!
c. d. g.
Fresh food. Was little disappointed as there was no masala tea in the late afternoon. Overall good.
A. M.
Food is very delicious and reasonably priced.
S. k.
Good south indian restaurant, it stand out from other famous india restaurants in this place where you find the tables and served quick unlike others where waiting time is 30 mins (often more). I recommend veg. kothu parata, mini meals and masala tea here.
P. J.
The place is good, however I feel their buffet meals is slightly overpriced. They charge around 6.50£ or something. For almost the same price, you get much better ambience and better service in some other restaurants in the area. I liked the other instant foods like Poori Masala, Masala Dosa etc.
P. T.
Excellent dosa and idly must try at East ham
T. S.
People say and believe that only some big chain restaurants can provide good food. These guys definitely will prove u wrong. What a authentic taste love them
A. K.
Excellent Andhra meals
Had Excellent Andhra meals for £4.95, no compromise in taste. Felt Like having meals at Kakatiya mess in Hyderabad
M. S.
Bad (or rather non-existent) decor, very poor service - but when the food is so finger-lickingly delicious, who can complain?
THE best Tamil food in all of London. And the cost - under a tenner per person!
V. C. T.
Best tasting south indian food and filter kaapi on this street.. My personal recommendation is their samosa chat and cashew pulao.
Bear in mind all their dishes are served with genuine and great smiles 😀😃
D. A. K.
Excellent vegetable fried rice and masala dosa.
Masala dosa with chutnies as authentic as one can get in a great Chennai restaurant.
The fried rice was perhaps the best of its kind that I've eaten.
Simple settings and very reasonable prices for great food.
M. G.
The plus point is that it opens at 7 am and you can have south Indian breakfast. But they charge you for the second extra cup Sambar which is small in size. A good visit in the morning for breakfast.
F. A. M.
I liked the dosa, it was tasty.
j. V.
You wanna taste the Dosas and Idlis of Tamil Nadu in UK. Sip a brewing filter coffee that mesmerizes your senses!! Dive in to Sambhar or Rasam Vada!!! Try the real tomato rice or lemon rice or Puli saadhan!! Vasantha Bhavan in Eastham will take you through that journey. What I liked the most it opens 7 AM in the morning like teashops and hotel in 'Namma naadu'.
R. K. K.
Quick service and fast vegetarian food available at very good prices. The location near the Tube station is great for a quick snack on the way to/from office or to meet friends over a coffee
R. D.
It's been so many years since we have been visiting this place, homely atmosphere.
K. N.
Good place for vegetarian and fast service
a. M.
Very nice south Indian food. Raw material used was freshly prepared and that reflects in the taste, as well. Would highly recommend.
N. N.
Easily the best place in East Ham for South Indian vegetarian food. The sodas are perfectly made, the chutneys and sambar are yummy, everything’s good.
A. P.
I have never experienced such good service and the freshness of the food. The prices are so competitive and the cleanest just like our homes.
A. S.

Very meal. A bit salty but tasty and not oily. Service was good too. Great place for pure veg meals
V.
Magic word 'Mini Tiffin' that's the only reason I keep visiting this restaurant whenever I get chance to..I love this Tiffin combo back in india and I found only this indian restaurant in london serving it.
P. S.
The best south Indian food you get in East ham. Try Paneer biryani. It is sooo delicious and yummy.

food is good but staff hygiene is poor. Staff walk out of the toilet not washing their hands
P. Y.
Authentic Delicious South Indian vegetarian restaurant, good portion for take away, Friendly and quick service, ideally located near a tube station.
R. K.
I ate idly and sambar it's tasty and yummy
N. J.
Best tea I have had since my arrival to U.K in 2006 .. Only downside is they only accept cash towards the payment. I strongly suggest the restaurant to start accepting Card payments.

The place is good, however I feel their buffet meals is slightly overpriced. They charge around 6.50£ or something. For almost the same price, you get much better ambience and better service in some other restaurants in the area. I liked the other instant foods like Poori Masala, Masala Dosa etc.
I. J.
Mini tiffin is not mini! It's so filling to both soul and stomach... Value for every penny and homeland's nostalgia... All checked
