Reviews of Vinoteca Farringdon
M. L.
Great spot for Italian tapas and enjoy their huge collection of wines.
We had an enjoyable Xmas party at the private room
F. T.
Went there for a quick bite and drink on a Saturday afternoon. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I was a bit hesitant about this place, considering that they have a few locations, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was nicely cooked and well seasoned. The wine selection is nice, with some interesting and unusual wines. The place was laid back and not pretentious.
T. W.
Love Vinoteca. Pleasant staff are happy to serve you, the menu is approachable and, guess what, the veggie dish is at the top of the list!! Who'd have thought?!
There's good wine pairings with every course and, as you'd expect, a huge wine menu. If you don't have half an hour to peruse it, there's a more succinct wine menu on the reverse of the food menu.
The steak was superb and the thick cut chips just perfectly fried off. Also had the risotto with roasted squash, both dishes were great, served promptly and wine selections were spot on.
C. F.
Prosecco and food was lovely. Nice atmosphere as always. Unfortunately staff kept taking plates away before we'd finished. Felt they were in a hurry but we had only been seated less than an hour.
U. K.
Amazing, creative food, extremely well prepared. Huge wine bottle selection, very decent and interesting open ones. Indeed recommended.
A. B.
This would have been a 5-star but we had two good reasons to knock off two stars.
Firstly, the food, the wine, fantastic. Great location, cosy venue (bit loud). The paddles are a nice way to sample a couple of different wines, would recommend if you go.
First Minus Star : We ordered a cheese selection and were asked if we'd like some additional house bread ordered with it, we said yes, it didn't come, we asked after it, it never came.
Second Minus Star : Upon payment time our receipt arrived with the aforementioned bread on it. One of our party went to the till and they sorted it right away. Then one of the servers came over to take our card payments and made as if the first persons payment hadn't gone through. The first person when to try paying again, same. Whilst this person tried to check why it didn't work a second person went to pay, £16, and was charged £60 (tapped and didn't realise). The first person then saw two charges on their account, they were rather annoyed. The server went back to the till to sort out the remaineder, came back and said only £22 remaining, which was too low. Person 3 paid that, at which point is when we realised Person 2 had been charged £60 instead of £16. I understand the 16->60 mistake in a noisy room, Person 2 should have checked the screen, but double charging someone and making out like it might not have gone through (might have been strong miscommunication, I want to give the benefit of the doubt) is very unacceptable. If we hadn't been checking and just paid our splits as we had all planned to, the Restaurant would have received over £100 more than it should have.
If this wasn't mostly the fault of just one staff member this would be a 1-star review, but the food and drink here is legitimately good. The service (apart from the missing bread) was otherwise perfectly acceptable.

Wonderful 2 hours spent and huge value on this gorgeous SA wine 😀
S. F.
Loved this place, great wine, great cheese and meat boards to share or something more substantial. Very relaxed and informal to just catch up and slow down
B. J.
Great wine, staff was slightly hard to catch the eye of. But a lovely atmosphere and great food, especially as they had a vegan main option!
C. M.
Beautiful wine selection, really well informed and friendly staff. The location is ideal being next to so many other places. We ate some of the smaller food offerings and enjoyed it all. Tried their wine flights which were really good value for money. Would return.
J. L.
Top quality food, great value and good choice of wines.
E.
Lovely vibe, great service, good selection of wine, delicious food, reasonable price!
s. t.
Amazing food, amazing wine and great service. We will definitely come back :)
L. M.
Very high quality place! Real wine and real food. Fish was delicious. Service - fast, friendly, kind.
C. B.
What a fun place. We hired downs stairs for an event. The wine tasting was great and done in a fun way! The food was DELISH!
A. T.
Love this little gem. The view from the windows, the selection of wines, the feeling of being home. The personnel is so polite and helpful, the food is very good (raspberry gelato for dessert!). They also sell wines by the bottle (to be avoided on pay day). A lovely, lovely restaurant.
S. M.
A buzzy spot with great food and wine. Good value too.
T. B.
Great food from a fairly a small menu but a massive wine list with knowledgeable staff to help you select a bottle. Great fun, worth a visit. Also serve gin!
K. N.
Come for the wine, but don't stay for dinner. Dishes were average tasting and portions were on the small size (especially the scallops!) Service was lacking unfortunately.
L. D.
I've always loved this restaurant and now I have a dog and realise it's also dog friendly. Makes me a very happy girl. I had an amazing time and a beautiful meal with my friend last night
W. M.
Fantastic.....Fantastic.....Fantastic. Beautiful food, spacious restaurant with a homely and warm cosy feel. But the great surprise is the great wine stock in the corner of the restaurant. WOW 😍😍😍. Also excellent place for a private party downstairs.
S. E.
Excellent meal accompanied by unique wines from an extensive selection. I enjoyed a roast ricotta salad with blood oranges to start, followed by risotto. My friend chose the cod for main. Everything was tasty and cooked perfectly. This was a great place for a casual mid-week meal. The service was friendly and knowledgeable about the wines at different price points.
A. M.
A nice vinoteca where you can enjoy good food with tasty vines. Nice decor although quite noisy.
T. C.
Great and rich selection of wines and some good meal choices.
Manager attitude is poor. We waited about 15 mins for a table we booked for at 6:30 pm and then were told we can only stay 1 hr if we don't have any food (even though this is a wine bar). When the bill came, the manager was clearly irritated that we had exceeded the time and were slow to leave - he tried to rush us out even though the place was half empty by that time.
However, the waiter that served us was very courteous and helpful.

I visited Vinoteca Farringdon on Thursday (10th December). Excellent food (bavette steak + desert) and we (my companion and I) were treated to a complimentary glass of fizz. Very nice thank you.
But I almost didn't go in as the restaurant did not appear to be complying with social distancing regs apart from all waiting staff wearing masks etc. Tables were less than 2 metres apart, no tables had been left vacant and as the evening progressed I felt increasingly at risk. I wonder if the management is trying to fit in too many guests? Also no effort was made on arrival to implement track and trace.. in contrast the costa coffee shop at my hotel was rigorous in this regard and as i did not have the NHS app on my old smartphone had to go to the costa website and provide my details etc.
Perhaps it was an oversight but on that evening Vinoteca appeared not to be in compliance with Covid-19 regulations which are designed to protect diners. If I contract Covid as a result of my visit would Vinoteca pay compensation?
C. R.
A nice wine bar with a good selection of wine (we had the Albarino which was great) and tables inside and outside make it a great location for an after work drink 🍷
A. N.
Delicious food and wine in lovely space at great prices. Amazing atmosphere and the staff are fabulous. Best gluten free options my friend had seen recently. Burrata starter and fish mains top notch. My parfait starter and steak were gorgeous. Highly recommend and would say treat yourself to the liquid dessert. Three course with wine for around £100...fab
J. T. (.
Excellent food and selection of wine. Quirky interior. We were sitting at a small table amongst shelves of wine! I had the most amazing belly pork and a rhubarb tart. Two course lunch meal is good value at £15 each.
T. W.
Best of British food, great service, light inside wonderful, take guests or go alone.
G. G.
This is the only vinoteca that matters, the others that opened up later don't match the cosiness and atmosphere. Pasta was ok, perhaps too rich for my taste. Fish was perfect.
h.
Amazing food, wine & staff
C. N.
Great choice of wine. Good atmosphere.
J. C.
Decent wine and good food. Very understated and modest interior disguises one of my favourite after work haunts. Wine pricey but really worth it. Great wines by the glass and decent food.
Staff are friendly and down to earth just like most of the crowd which is odd for the area!
N. B.
The positives are the service and the wine (breadth of wines, explanations for each wine on the menu and being able to see all the bottles displayed).
However if you are after good food to go with your wine, avoid this place! We were extremely disappointed. The lamb belly was way too salted, the polenta chips didn’t taste of truffle at all and were very bland, the burrito was literally just that with 4 slices of tomato. The other dishes we tried were ok but nothing to write home about.
R. B.
Lovely wine bar with incredibly friend staff, and food that is very enjoyable modern European. Sitting outside on a summer day is especially nice, and the wine options are incredibly varied - I tried my first red German wine here and can highly recommend it. Wine lovers will really enjoy this spot.
H. K.
If you want to try something a little different Vinoteca is certainly worth a try. The menu is not large, but enough choice to satisfy our group of six. This is usually a good sign that ingredients are probably fresh and not out of a freezer, we weren't disappointed.
J. F.
Absolutely perfect. Delicious food, wonderful waitress, Louise. Great atmosphere. Didn't feel rushed. Great evening. I hope to go back again.
N. T.
Amazing place, with great food, gorgeous wine and great service. A small restaurant with about 12 - 15 tables. Personal service and you can see the chef's cooking 15ft from you. Definitely recommend
E. W.
Great selection of wine and tapas. Its only a small unit though so gets busy and a bit loud quite quickly so not somewhere to go if you are after a quick drink.
If you don't know much about wine the staff will be willing to chat through the options and there's something for eveyone at each price point.
R. W.
Terribly tasteless complimentary bread and olive oil...... The 'paid for' food however was excellent and paired wine likewise...... I had squid for starters and duck for main - I would recommend both but I would avoid the mackerel starter because it was served 'refrigerator' cold. Great place...... almost faultless.
J. H.
very good food, courteous staff
H. W. (.
I've been to a couple of wine tastings here both of which were fantastic. I think they do them every six months to introduce their new sales "menu". Basically it was £15 or £20 for an afternoon or an evening where you're given a plastic glass and can basically try all their wines, unlimited. You are given a paper form which lists them all (not sure how many but too many to realistically try every single one) with a little description and space for you to make your own notes. Staff are really well informed and keen to help. A great way to try wines you may not buy - for example I thought I didn't like Chardonnay but turns out the expensive ones are my favourite kind of wine! Great value and great atmosphere.
A. F.
Love the fresh, interesting food, excellent wine cellar and good prices. Why can't more places copy this simple formula ?
With its friendly and knowledgeable staff it's a real staple when near Smithfield.
A. K. V.
Absolutely loved the place, wide selection of wines, great food, super quick service!
K. D.
Great place with a very extensive selection of wines. Best to take a different glass of wine each course to match the lovely food. Don't forget to bring friends & order the rum truffles for dessert. And some excellent rum of course!
I.
A small but great venue. Bravette was fantastic and great value at £15 Inc glass of vine. Wine selection vast and some interesting choices, although a little more expensive than the normal offerings. Go ahead and visit!
T. L.
Lovely spot offering great food and wine. Our party of four all orders differently and all left very happy and well fed. Seems like you can't go wrong!
j. m.
Found this lovely little place quite by accident.Excellent food excellent wine and friendly relaxed atmosphere.Well worth looking up.
S. B.
Nice place, good wines
D. T.
Great wine selection with reasonable prices! The staff is amazing as well and their cheese plates delicious.
R. J.
Absolutely excellent place! it's cosy without being cramped, the food is amazing and the wine selection is brilliant, the service is friendly but discrete - it's just all round a great restaurant
M. C.
I love this place feels like an institution: great value, fantastic wine, pleasantly busy.
It's great whether you want wine and nibbles or a bistro-style meal.
N. W.
Lunch was promptly served and both the Bavette Steak and Hake were excellent as was the white rioja - Impressive. Definitely London prices for booze though and 12.5% service charge. Attentative waitress.
S. D.
Really great food and wonderful selection of wines. Friendly and attentive staff. Excellent!
S. Y.
Excellent Bavette and impressive wine list. Tables fill up quickly so best to go before 6:30pm. You can also buy wine to take home.
C. C.
Walked past it twice because it looked uninviting (their interior design definitely needs to be refreshed), but so glad I entered. Superb service by Louise and really good food.
R. B.
Amazing choice of wine and good food
A. S.
Frienly service, lovely food and they allow corkage
T. P.
Fantastic food with an amazing (if anything too extensive) wine selection. Small enough to be intimate, not so small as to be cramped. It's not cheap, but the food is so good it's worth it.
G. H.
Great friendly little wine bar in the mix of Farringdon. Excellent wine selection and some good tasty bites. Get away from the madness of the busy bars and relax when needed.
M. G.
Service was slower than usual, given that it wasn't particularly busy; the food, however, was phenomenal!
As ever, too, a fine selection of wines to accompany whatever your food tastes.
M. K.
Yep, loved it. Good food. Interesting, good wines by the glass and a very extensive wine list by the bottle
Good service and a great vibe.
p. c.
I love this place! Friendly and welcoming with delicious wine and nibbles. It’s not cheap but I think it’s good value.
W. L.
Vinoteca is where we always bring clients out for lunch, as we can be sure there will be excellent food and wine, with great service. I have tried a few dishes but always go back to the beef bavette with horseradish sauce.
J. W.
Not a lot on offer for vegetarians, but that's to be expected next to Smithfield Market! Good for a midweek lunch, but make sure you can have a glass of wine as it'd be a shame to miss it! The open front in the summer means the interior feels peaceful in comparison to the busy street outside.
T. C.
Great place to meet your friends over a meal.
S. T.
Slightly upmarket wine bar/restaurant at a stone's throw from Farringdon station. The food is good and the wine list is well curated. If you like what you're drinking you can purchase a bottle on the premises!
D. S.
Good and reasonably priced wine selection. The bar nibbles are good, as is the food although tables are a bit crushed and it can get really busy in the evenings.
Well worth a visit.
C. C.
Great food, the dish of the day is usually very tasty and decently priced.
Awesome selection of wines.
E. P.
For a more sophisticated evening, this cozy little place has the perfect ambience for great conversations and setting the world to rights over a large glass of wine - with their extensive list of great (and reasonably priced) wines, plus olives, fresh bread, cheeses..... need I say more?!
T. H.
Great choice of wine in a lively atmosphere - downstairs room is great for a big group.
Not cheap
B. B.
Friendly with fantastic choice of wines
J. C.
Very delicious food. Surprised to find no Lamb options on the menu. The wine good also.

My favourite location of all the Vinoteca's. Casual vibe, great food and excellent wine choices.
P. H.
Absolutely loved the food there, but next time will order a dessert. Portions are slightly on the small side. But you just love the food
R. H.
It was great. Its always casual and informal, while the staffs timing is always right, neither lazy nor pushy.
A. L.

(Translated) It is noted a contrast a bit 'cloying between the components of the dishes: meat (well cooked) with canned fruit tied with sweet and sour peppers. For my taste I would have preferred a binder (sauce). For the rest, positive in wine and in the environment and in the service
