Reviews of Wahaca Southbank
A. P.
Extraordinary night for a team dinner! The set menus are perfect to share and we were given a private room (our own container box!)
The staff were very efficient and warm and they let us stay longer than we thought.
Here are samples of the many dishes that were served to us. The churros for desert disappeared to quickly to have time for a picture!
Special mention for the guacamole and chips as starter, so fresh and perfect!
Definitely recommend booking with a party. Th only thing is to come with enough layers in the winter as the heating lamp do not spread heat very evenly and the container is not insulated. The rest of the restaurant seemed much warmer.
S. H.
Rainbow bowl was great. A pretty quick and tasty lunch. Not too crowded. Friendly staff. Clean look, built with shipping containers right over the south bank skate spot. They also have a good truck on the ground floor outside. They accept reservations, just make sure you go to the right one as there's another one not too far down the street.
T. L.
I don't dine at chains restaurants that often but I do like Wahaca, especially the Southbank branch because it is in a series of shipping containers and has great views of the River Thames. The food is always super tasty with inventive ingredients and great flavours. We order vegan and veggie options and they have a great choice so we always find something delicious to eat. I always save room for the churros and chocolate dip!
A. K.
Nice and Cozy restaurant. We went for trying some local Mexican cuisine. We ordered beer with Mexican touch(must try if you love salt and lemon kick) croquettes, tacos and pecan brownies for dessert. Tacos were ok but the dessert was mind blowing. The restaurant was warm with local music. Should try once!
H. S.
As part of a chain you know what to expect from the interior of a wahaca. The food as always is tasty and quite authentic. The drinks are possibly a little on the dear side but very moreish
L. B.
Unusual and inventive Mexican cuisine.
Recommend the set menus in order to try the widest variety of dishes. Everything super tasty, even ended up with some extra food and drink on-the-house. Quirky location in converted shipping containers. Great experience.

I absolutely loved it! The food was amazing and the drinks as well. Portion of the food was just right and it was very tasty. Coffee came with complimentary chocolates which was a nice surprise. The dessert was just lovely with the portion of ice cream and caramel on the top.
Also I never seen anywhere any nicest staff! Everyone said hello to us and was just amazing! Shout out to our server for being great. Definitely will come back!

We were walking along the southbank & spotted Wahaca and our lunch time woes were answered.
I have coeliac disease so needed a safe gluten free option but also muggle food for my family. We were seated promptly and the lovely Ivi looked after us - my gluten free requests were met with a great and varied menu. The Menu was seperated for Allergy or Intolerance Gluten free requirements - this was thoroughly explained by my waiter.
A manager approved my order - we ordered the mexican nachos to share, followed by Beef Burrito for husband, Pork Quesidilla for almost teenage son, Cheese Quesadilla for my 4 year old and I had street food tacos which were fresh, vibrant and delicious.
The restaurant & facilities were really well maintained, clean and guidelines were thoroughly explained. Really wish there was a wahaca near us in Sunderland as I'd be there more regularly.
A. T.
Amazing food at reasonable prices and very friendly staff. The best are chicken ad avocado quesadillas and pork pibil tacos.
B. M.
Ive always wanted to visit this restaurant and was lucky enough to do so on a recent trip to London. As a fan of mexican cuisine and a vegetarian, the options were plentiful. We started with a mexican hot chocolate, which was delicious, thick and warming.I ate a sweet potato and feta dish to start, followed by a bean and cheese quesadilla. All were exquisite and presented beautifully.Would highly recommend.
R. S.
Just about enough gluten free options for me.... loved the tacos....if they had gf churros I'd be even happier
A.
Our first visit to the Southbank location but we have visited Wahaca several times before. The location is surprisingly large with lots of seating across several levels. The space is very well utilised and makes for quite a unique dining experience. The food is consistently very good and this occasion was no different. The highlight was the pork pibil rainbow bowl which had a bit of everything. The tacos are very tasty if a little small for the price. Recommended and will return
P. D.
Fantastic food, service was a bit manic but overall a great experience.
M. N.
I rarely write reviews but I couldn't not this time, for the absolutely stellar service we received.
Our host Rafael was kind enough to give our little group of 5 a private pod overlooking the water which was hugely appreciated and really made our night. Our server Emmy was super friendly and efficient and gave us great advice on what to order.
Food was delicious and hit the mark for a fun sharing menu, with the sweet potato & feta taquito the favourite of the night.
Thanks Wahaca team for making our informal Christmas gathering amazing! ⭐
A. C.
Always great food and friendly service. New dishes on the menu to try alongside the usual favourites.
Great value for money with enough variety and interest to keep us looking forward to our next visit.
J. J.
Lively place, fantastic tasting Mexican food and great service while we were there. The salsas were amazing tasting, as was the cauliflower dish.
A. S.
Fantastic food and really friendly service from Sabi. He was so good with our kids and made us all feel really welcome. He even brought us some extra tortilla chips! We had a lovely family evening out.
S. A.
Would recommend! Lovely restaurant, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. It has indoor and outdoor seating. The food was incredible! We had the Trealy Farm Chorizo and the Devon Crab & Avocado Tostadas, plus Churros with chocolate sauce. The chocolate sauce was a bit bitter, perhaps milk chocolate sauce would have been better. Had a margarita drink, it was absolutely delightful! Also had an Americano coffee, it didn't taste nice. Overall, it's worth a visit!
V. L.
Service was nice. They were funny and attentive. Would come back just for the service. Food was nice. I got the burrito and the add on guacamole was £1.75 for a small pot which was pricey. The cocktails were delicious too and not a bad price compared to other places.
S. B.
Located by the River Thames and Waterloo Bridge, this Wahaca is delightfully designed out of recycled shipping containers. Its cosy and cool with good views over the river and the Southbank.
The staff were all friendly and helpful and the service quick and attentive.
The food was all very tasty and we all wanted more. Will be happy to return here many times.
D. K.
This was a real find. The words, 'great atmosphere ', get used alot, but Wahaca really is fun to be in. The food was exceptional and utterly authentic. We focused on the Mexican Street Food section of the menu - a Mexican tapas experience. The other thing to mention is the quality of the service. The staff seem to be enjoying themselves, work hard and are friendly and attentive. If, like us, you are around 60, you will be the oldest people in the place but don't be put off - you'll love it!
J. D.
Amazing food. Loved every minute of it
B. T. B.
Every aspect of it was perfect, the customer service, the toilet hygiene and the food. Not only did it look good, it tasted good. It feels like you are in a street food restaurant and the place looks beautiful. Definitely recommend.
K.
Great food as always. Bit slow opening the bar. And more expensive than last time but times have changed. Friendly service and contactless bill payment.
S. N.
Absolutely delicious food! Good value, relaxed atmosphere and fab service.
V. Y.
Had an amazing time at Wahaca Southbank. We had the “favourites” meal option for two people which was amazing. Had a good combo of some of the most flavourful dishes on the menu. The duck croquettes and the buttermilk chicken tacos were clear favourites.
Also tried the tamarind margarita which tasted great. Service was good and very friendly. Everything arrived on time and well prepared even though it was a Sunday and the place was full to the brim with customers. Would definitely recommend.
R. F.
Superb food, shared the vegetarian set menu with partner and food was well presented, tasty and satisfying. The staff were really friendly, helpful and respectful of social distancing. Atmosphere was light, welcoming, warm and friendly. Spicy sauces were all tasty with a good selection of levels for different tastes.
S. O.
I had amazing tacos and their iconic Wahaca colada. Definitely would recommend their specials.
E. B.
This was the best Mexican food I’ve had in the UK. Our waiter Eduardo was friendly and attentive. Great drinks and wonderful food. Will be going back and recommending to friends.
J. M.
First time in wahaca on a Sunday afternoon.
Gentleman at the door was very friendly show us to our table what was a booth , very comfy cozy corner. Our waiter Eduardo I believe his name was sorry if I am mistaken, he was super friendly. He asked if it’s our first visit we said yes , asked if we have any food allergies.. then explained the whole menu . Our kids got colouring they were super excited and were well entertained … my mother in law enjoyed her tea , I loved my house red..
we ordered some nachos and the trio of salsa to start with they were very good!
Pork and beef tacos were superb , my favourites were the sweet potato bravas and black bean chorizo side was wonderful very well seasoned full of flavour.. quesadillas were very tasty… the slaw was a bit bland and the kids chicken taco wasn’t great at all the chicken tasted bland and had a weird flavour (microwaved? ) anyway the little one wasn’t that hungry she was happy with her cucumber cheese wraps.. the crispy fish was great my daughters were fighting over it
Our waiter finished half way through our meal but walked around informed every table he is finishing and wished everyone a great night… I though that was very kind… he even saw us leaving later on and said good bye and thank you… that’s very rare these days
Then a lovely girl( sorry couldn’t catch her name ) took it over she also mentioned she is just starting and she will be our server .. she did very well cleaned our table when needed asked if we want another drink or dessert very friendly girl.
It was my bigger daughter’s birthday we mentioned to a member of staff then they put a candle next to the delicious churros and sang a happy birthday song, then another member of staff found out we speak polish and they sang it in polish too. Very very special.. I have been working in hospitality for over 20 years but I can see the staff at Wahaca works so well together kitchen staff and floor staff were working amazingly they were all having a good laugh but made sure the food is great and the guests are looked after ….We didn’t have to wait long for anything, and they were absolutely fantastic , we all know these days it’s very hard to find good stafff and very difficult to create a good team, but well done team wahaca Southbank. You guys have nailed it
We had an amazing afternoon, food was very tasty great portions the staff were brilliant!
Keep up the good work guys!
We will definitely back, and recommend wahaca Southbank to our friends
Thank you for the amazing hospitality! 👏👏👏
If you are in dilemma can’t decide where to go. Wagamama, strada , Giraffe, cote or honest burger I am pretty sure you won’t be disappointed with Wahaca. Defo give it a try …
T. P.
Amazing service! We've been many times but today was especially good! Raff, our server was excellent, attentive and so friendly. Not just helpful, he went above and beyond.
k. d.
Went here with friends late 50s -early 60s to celebrate a Birthday. Just like being in Mexico! Plenty of choices Veggies, Vegans and meat and fish.
Wasnt sure what to order so had the set menu for vegetarian A selection of small plates , all very tasty and fresh.
Good selection of drinks Inc cocktails. Enjoyed a classic Margarita but my friends commented the longer cocktails were a bit watery and they were unable to taste the alcohol. Maybe they are used to mixing their own without measures!
Waiter went out of his way to make us feel relaxed and welcome. Very friendly and helpful.
Only complaint is one of my friends has trouble walking. Did not appear to be accessible for disabled. Had to struggle up multiple steps .
Bench style seats also a bit awkward to get on /off.
Loved the food, music, atmosphere.
Not from London but prices reasonable, comparable with similar in Birmingham .
Would definitely recommend and would like to go again but nearest is over 100 miles away!
Hope they open one in Birmingham.
B. S.
Really lovely and friendly staff. Made an already great experience superb. Great vegan food too!
E. L.
The most amazing service, Edward was the most attentive and thoughtful waiter! Will come again purely for the staff! And the food was incredible, i highly recommend the slow cooked pork burrito!!!
O. S.
great food and great vibes!! I had a brisket burrito and steak and cheese tacos which would recommend to anyone. thank you to our lovely waiter Edward!!
ナ.
polite and sweet staffs, food are very delicious and not expensive at all, street food can be shared by 2 person so that you can order different kind of it,cocktails are very amazing , especially the expresso one.
I. E.
Lovely food, cocktails could be better value size but yummy! Great in summer but long wait times for a table.
S. L.
Food was great. Really tasty and full of flavours. Very bright cheerful upbeat staff. Service was swift. Music was loud which grated after a while but then I am an old fuddy duddy! Food prices were fairly average. Soft drink prices over the top though. I'd like to go to a restaurant that doesn't overcharge for soft drinks. Overall though- I would go again.
K. B.
Such a lovely place to eat. Great food, lovely staff and looking over the Thames. My boyfriend and I have been telling everyone to visit.
C. F.
Lovely experience. There was a little wait, but you get to wait at the bar so no problems there. The food was delicious and the staff very friendly. Shout out to Carlos! :)
M. M.
Delicious and authentic flavours. Good value for money. Outstanding views and service. We will be back!! Highly recommended.
D. S.
Superb food with cozy environment. Highly recommend!!
R. P.
We had a most excellent lunch here, once we'd managed to find it. Google maps led us astray.
The menu lists 'street food' and 'big plates' - the former being tapas-style where you want two or three dishes per person. That's what we had - tacos and sides - all were great. The sweet potato bravas were especially good.
I. R.
Lovely waitresses and very nice selection of street food for reasonable price. Never disappointed with any Wahaca so far. Always fresh and their guacamole with chilli oil is top. This Wahaca is special, because it's colorful and vibrant next to river Thames made from ship containers. Definitely would recommend.
J. C.
I've been here few times and always good and quick service. This time Sabi was in charge of our table and treat us very well and recommended few new dishes. Thank you again!
M. C.
Amazing food and lovely cocktails! The set menus are great and definitely recommended as you get to try a bit of everything.
They could add alcohol-free beer to their menu, but other than that they had something for everyone. We make sure to come back every time we're in London, that's how great it is!
J. M.
Just wanted to leave a review after our lunch today. The server and kitchen were so helpful and thoughtful with dealing with my son’s allergies today. It made lunch a much more relaxing experience than usual!
Meal and drinks were also excellent.
G. A.
First time eating a burrito and churro. Honestly, it was great. I love everything about the dish!
P. P.
Was good that arrived on a Wednesday before 7 pm to get a table. After that there was a queue for tables. Burrito was nice but nothing special. Nice and efficient service. Sadly there was no enchilada. Easy payment using the QR code on the table .
I. M.
Good food combined with friendly staff made from a great experience. We ordered a lot of dishes to share and the waitress was spot on with how many we should get. The staggered delivery of food also meant that our table never got too overloaded.
M. N.
All our food was really tasty. Service was very friendly. Thank you Eduardo and front of the house for the great service!
J. C.
Delicious, great flavours and a superb location. Each dish was fantastic and had a unique flavour profile.
The guacamole and pork tacos were eaten before I remembered to take photos. Needless to say they were spectacular.
J. T.
We arrived around 8pm, although there was a 30-40 minute wait, we were able to take a seat and have a drink, and were alerted by text when our table was ready.
The wait was well worth it - food was delicious, staff were friendly, and the general atmosphere was lovely too. I've already recommended to others, and I'd happily return on a future trip to London!
E. A.
Pretty good atmosphere food and experience... quite a delay getting our meal out, otherwise, excellent
A. R.
There are so many WONDERFUL things I can say about this Wahaca location. Our family has been to both Waterloo and Covent Garden and no one treats us like the staff at Southbank.
The food is absolutely amazing every single time and we frequent this restaurant at least 2-3 times a week. We look forward to everything from the guacamole, mockolada and our personal favorite the CHURROS!! Another couple of personal faves are the Plantain Tacos and Bean & Cheese quesadillas although as vegetarians we highly recommend doing the set veggie menu at least once to get a taste of literally everything they have to offer.
They appreciate our family and our business so much something is always on the house for us. We are truly appreciative of the love we get from Mical, Edward, Marilee, Rafa, Paula and anyone we’ve left out. ❤️ Our Wahaca Family!!!
We highly recommend for a great time, great food and an amazing view on the Thames!
R. M.
We've been to Wahaca on two different occasions now and have yet to be disappointed. This is a quirky Mexican restaurant with a smart menu packed full of robust flavours. Whether you are going for an intimate meal with a lover or a tequila fueled Friday night with your work colleagues, there is something to please all. The burritos are to die for! Tucked up on the South bank with beautiful views over the Thames, Wahaca is a must try for lovers of Mexican faire. We will absolutely be returning for a third visit.
K. G.
Amazing place! So vibrant and colourful, with many rooms and corners to sit in. The food is delecious, authentic mexican. Vegetarian/vegan options available. The staff was super nice. I loved it and I definitely recommend it ti everyone.
F. S.
We were served by Sabi. Great guy and really helpful. The food was incredible, we had the sweet potato burrito, fish tacos and halloumi tacos. The churros for dessert were also delicious. Looking forward to coming back and they also offer 30% for NHS staff!
B. M.
Popped into one of favourite Mexican street food establishments for some tasty tacos and lush cocktails.
B. F.
Good to be sitting outside by the Thames enjoying the vibes and view. Lucky the internet was working again (for them) and the sun was out!
J. H.
Great service, nice food...maybe a bit pricey though, otherwise 5 stars!
M. R.
Wahaca Southbank has great Mexican food! You can choose a few small things or something bigger. Smaller items mean you get to try more things 😁 The food came pretty quickly - faster than the dessert actually. The curros with chocolate or caramel sauce were fantastic! Toilets are unisex and were neat and clean.
L. S.
Cosy in the pod outside although quite snug for 8 people. Staff very friendly. Food delicious, always have a good time here!
K. J.
Food was great but the waitress asked how the food was and my cousin had a slight complaint about the food she had chosen and the waitress instantly came back and said that she will ask her manager if she can give us free churros. So kind and welcoming as well. amazing staff, couldn't ask for anything better
A. S.
Good service, food and cocktails. we went to celebrate a friend's birthday and it was perfect for a nice meal
J. I.
Their food is Mexican-approved to be authentic and we'll made. The prices feel steep compared to the amount of food you get, but that's just London for you. 🤷♂️
f.
Love this place, great food, drink and service. Even though madly busy they always try to fit you in. My only criticism is that while the pulled pirk remains wonderful and the new halloumi is zingy. The chicken tacos are not whatbthry used to be. But the other food was great. Thank you
P. K.
Authentic Mexican food. Even my South American friend approves!
Can be a bit pricy but it’s worth it.
I recommend the seasonal dishes and drinks!
N.
One of the best dining experiences I've had in London everything was quality.
The cocktails were great as a tequila lover and the service was outstanding!
A.
Food bursting with a plethora of unexpected flavours and worth a visit for this, but if you’re a couple and come in the winter months, do bring a torch as you’ll be seated at a table without lighting.
I found the staff unremarkable.
S. B.
Food was great - unfortunately our order got a bit messed up so we had to wait a while to get everything. They did offer some free churros as an apology, which was good customer service.
a. t.
Everything here is good and has nice ambience over a little place. One of the best Mexican restaurants to try nachos and burritos. It’s very near to Waterloo station on the banks of Thames river.
A. N.
Great food and very friendly service. The queuing system was very efficient and we only ended up waiting 15 mins.
Had the veggie platter and it was delicious, especially the black bean dish.
K. S.
I thought the food and the service were sooo good! The prices are also really good. Thanks guys!
M. G.
Always enjoy food at Wahaca!! Very friendly and helpful staff!! We had wide range of starters; my absolute favourite is the sweet potato and feta cheese tacquito. Black bean and three cheese quesidilla, fried cauliflower dish were also quite good. The only thing I didn't like was Churros, which weren't properly cooked and the chocolate sauce was quite bitter. I wish they gave choice of sauce with Churros.
N. N.
This was the best food I had while in London and probably the best Mexican food I've had ever. We came here for dinner the next day as well because we enjoyed it so much.
I recommend getting the set meals for two people so you can try several of their amazing dishes. But we also tried the tacos and the Mexican bowl which were also amazing.
They also appear to be very conscious of food constraints/allergies. And they have a super convenient app for paying the bill.
D. K.
It’s so hard to find quality Mexican food that’s both vegetarian and/or vegan friendly.
Lovely south bank location with plenty of seating both indoor and out door.
You’ll find yourself going out of your way to eat Wahaca.
D. L.
Cool urban feel to the atmosphere, friendly staff, location along the river for a walk before or afterwards, and food was spot on, tasted about 5 different tacos, all delicious, the buttermilk chicken one was remarkable!
A. J. M.
My friend and I came to Wahaca to have some bites and we ended up staying for a meal and a few cocktails. Sabi was of great help and very accommodating as we wanted to seat on a bench without a parasol to enjoy the sun. I’d definitely be back!
M. L.
Great food. Friendly service.
I. U. M.
Amazing location and very friendly staff. They messed up my order but gave me another burrito for free and only charged me for drinks. Very happy with how they dealt with the situation. Vegan options are good too!
T. W.
Amazing food. So good. Great service. Friendly and courteous. Will come back!
A. M.
Handy place for a pre-show meal. Lots of different spaces inside and out. Fun sharing menu. We enjoyed the Black bean quesedillas, the tostadas plus the guacamole is always good.
T. W.
Nice fresh food. Fast service. A bit too hectic and overcrowded with people
O.
Very good customer service- funny ,fast , kind and hard working. Yummy food was delivered fast . Could give more stars if possible . 10/10
s. j.
Amazing food, service was excellent and a great atmosphere. Can't go wrong
G. G.
Tasty Mexican food, but the setting is the real hero here; with a nice, elevated view of the Southbank and surrounding city across the river Thames. Staff were very friendly and service was very fast as expected.
F. A. L.
Portions are to small to satisfy your hunger. So you can use that reastruant as a snacking place. Other than that all is fine 🙂
H. M.
Service is great, food is spot on and freshly made. Absolutely get a fresher drink to help cut through some of the richer dishes
K. P.
I dont tend to go to many chain places but I liked Wahaca. It has a good selection of vegetarian food and lots of sharing food. I am a sharing food type of person!
My favourite was the cheese and chilli croquetas. It was so good I had to order another! The second best was the sweet potato and feta taquito.
The service was good. It's good value. I would come back.
M. M.
Every dish I tried was delicious, aside from the steak burrito which tasted like I could have gotten it out of the freezer from a convenience store.
L. M.
THE MOST ADORABLE QUIRKY PLACE EVER! I love the buildings design and the colours, furniture and decor inside. The food was also amazing and customer service great!
B. J.
Food was fantastic with our host Katy showing a passion for the food and great knowledge of the menu. Definitely try the special menus lamb.
D. N.
One of my favourite restaurants in the world. A unique restaurant in a unique place. And the food is amazing of course.
r. l.
Had a set menu choice, food was really good however we don't eat sea food but couldn't swap the crab out. Other wise really good!
S. O.
Food was delicious, the price of the food and cocktails are reasonably priced .I am already planning on going back.Higly recommend.
j. g.
My chicken tacos were a bit too greasy.
Horchata and margarita were delicious! Overall pretty tasty!
M. S.
A great, lively and fun spot. The buttermilk chicken taco was to die for. Everything was so fresh and spicy
C. M. C.
Excellent service, they found a table for us on a full Sunday. Lovely food
E. C.
Really tasty, enjoyed sharing lots of different dishes, great location and we were very impressed by Ivi who provided amazing service!
D. M.
Delicious food in such a cool area! Drinks were sooo tasty. Recommend asking for less ice though, it was more ice than drink 😂
P. M.
Amazing service and great selection of food. I had a Mexican bowl and it was delicious. Very welcoming environment and a nice view from upstairs. I’m definitely coming back!
M. K.
Friendly staff and very welcoming atmosphere.
Best guacamole I've had to date!! Only criticism is portion of nachos was slightly on the smaller side, but I guess thats London prices.
We ordered beef brisket burritos as main and they were deliciously flavoursome, couldn't fault them.
So glad we chose this place for date night, next time we'll ask to be seated upstairs as the ceiling is covered in little fairly lights and looks so cosy. Love the whole look!
P. P.
Food is good but tables are far too tiny. We had yo put the empty dishes on the sofa to clear some space
E. G. (.
Lidia was amazing, so friendly and so knowledgeable about the whole menu! Would definitely come again :)
P. N.
Great staff, say in pod over looking the river, food very tasty. Great night out!
U. S.
Food is quite tasty and the flavours resulted from the combinations of spices and chilies are quite close to real Mexican food. Bear in mind that only a few traditional dishes can be found here. It is worth it trying them though.
F. M.
amazing service and delicious (and affordable) food. Loved the location as well.
E. C.
Amazing choice of flavours and delicious Mexican dishes! Love the plantain and chicken with avocado. Great place to spend the evening for dinner with the family. Waiters are very friendly too
N. P.
Vibrant atmosphere, colourful decor, friendly service characterises this place well. Serving popular Mexican varieties the food is tasty and
M. P.
Hadn't visited a branch of Wahaca for years but spotted the one on the Southbank with the terrace on the walkway by the Hayward gallery and decided to enjoy lunch al fresco while people watching from a height with my daughter and dog.
Every single server was warm and welcoming, polite and attentive. They asked if we'd like some water for our dog as we were seated (in the shade) it was a lovely sunny day (for a change!)
We ordered the Mexico city nachos, the buttermilk chicken taco, the Devon crab tostadas and the steak burrito. Everything was delicious, fresh and very tasty! My daughter really enjoyed her steak burrito, the meat was flavoursome and tender. My small plates were very good, I'd order all of them again. I love crab so the tostadas were excellent, I couldn't decide whether they'd be elevated to even better with a squeeze of lime.
Buttermilk chicken was crisp and flavoursome, the pickled pink onions giving a lovely bit of zing, little bit of heat in there too which was great. Interestingly, I would never order nachos usually. They're just a bit "meh", however, this was my favourite plate! Firstly, it was presented and dressed really well, not in a soggy off-putting mountain.
The flavours were fantastic, earthy black beans, smooth cheese crema, tangyness and slight sweetness from the chorizo (there is a non meat version available too) freshness from the fresh tomato, onion and coriander salsa. My daughter loved it so much that she said she'd love to eat just that dish for dinner!
We finished off with the churros which were really decent. Crisp, hot, dusted lightly with cinnamon sugar and we chose to dip them into the rich, quite grown up chocolate (it's not milk chocolate so has some great bitter notes) as well as the dulce de leche caramel. Perfect end to our lunch.
If you have not tried Wahaca or are a bit weary of chain restaurants, I'd say try this particular one on the Southbank. We're definitely going back!
Unfortunately, I didn't have a phone with me so I couldn't take any photos.
M. G.
Food was variable, some exceptional, some not so good.
It is quite pricey though and I really don't like how they add a big percentage for a tip automatically and you have to speak to your server to get it removed, which would be embarrassing.
C. H.
Had a wonderful dinner last night with my partner & friend. Very good service where the manager & chef were attentive to my food intolerances & went out of their way to ensure a good, satisfactory meal for all. The tequila variety was great! Good experience all round. Thank you
l. s.
Went for lunch... can't wait to go back, I don't know enough about Mexican food to review the meal ... but it was so tasty. I LOVED IT.
The waiter was really helpful.
The only down side was the vergin Moito it tasted perfect but there was less than a mouth full of actual drink. The rest was crushed ice.... it was a really really expensive glass of tap water... don't throw your money away.
G. L.
Very convenient for Waterloo station. Great with kids. Very nice staff. Good standard of Mexican food.
S. V.
Great vibe, friendly staff, good for families. Casual street food style. Kids portions are a tad small so might be worth getting nachos or just all get small plates to share.
P. v. B.
Very friendly service. Food taste good and was relatively quickly serviced. Enjoyed lunch.
A. J.
Staff are so friendly. Fantastic food. A large selection of drinks both soft and alcoholic. A good range of vegan and vegetarian food. It is an interesting container restaurant.
I. W.
I am a fiend for the bfi, and there is genuinely not a better nearby restaurant in this area of the waterfront. It could be better overall, but everything else is much worse.
J. B.
Amazing service - really friendly and professional - and fanTASTIC food. My goodness, the loaded nachos are just *chef's kiss*.
I really recommend this place. If I lived nearby, I'd make this one of those restaurants you go to when you fancy eating out somewhere nice but not expensive!
h.
On a weekday there are very few options in stalls for food, compared to the weekends, so this one was a good option with the standard fillings for a buritto but nice all the same. A great option if you don't feel like a restaurant on s sunny evening.
B. I. A. S. F.
Out door heated seating area overlooking the Thames with good cocktails, food and service, what's not to like!
s. b.
Great restaurant but book early to avoid a lengthy wait. Its worth it though as food is amazing
M. M.
Really nice food and consideration for allergies. Outdoor seating available
m. A.
Absolutely love this restaurant the food is delicious.I love the sweet potatoes and pimped up burrito.Would go again definitely.
A. H.
Our server Colin was awesome! Made the experience wonderful. Cool restaurant made of shipping containers. Always love the food here. And churros as a surprise dessert for my birthday!
J. M.
Best place ever! I recommend you if u like a chill out atmosphere and good alco drinks. Good place. I will go there after these all COVID situation.
J. M.
Wahaca is really solid for a chain restaurant. It's not bad value, the food is really tasty, and the atmosphere is pretty good. The Southbank Wahaca is in a great location, loads of outdoor seating. Don't get it confused with the Waterloo restaurant!
H. C. (.
Very interesting flavours and well prepared and presented food. Now I understand why it's so popular 😁
S. N.
Nice food in an unusual porter cabin style setting, lovely decorating, outdoor seating , good toilets , not wheelchair accessible
A. L.
It’s my favourite branch due to location particularly if you nab a table upstairs with Thames river views. Menu is different every time I’ve been with specials. Could do with making stronger cocktails and quality varies, but definitely good value for money and great from two to groups!
G. P.
The food was tasty. But the service did not have the best timing. We first got asked what we wanted too quickly, then had to wait. The food did not arrive at the same time, one of my street food dishes arrived when I was finishing the other already. And then the table was cleared when I hadn't even finished chewing.
L. S.
I love Wahaca food, but this location is particularly special as it looks out over the Thames, plus you're right in the heart of the best of Southbank, with the weekend food market, pop up stalls as well as the famous undercroft skate park.
I strongly advise you book as it's a very popular venue, or be prepared to wait from anything from 30minutes to and hour - but you can wait in the bar and enjoy their delicious cocktails.
B. R.
A very refreshing experience to have a waiter after covid. This place is great with brilliant views of the Thames and adequate outdoor shading for a hot day.
Our waiter was lovely and the food was good. I definitely recommend.
S. B.
Great food and atmosphere, staff are lovely 👌
F. F.
As always fantastic food & service so nice to be able to sit outside to eat
L. J.
Great outdoor setting (only dined out) and decent customer service. The food was great but the only problem I had was that not all the food came at the same time (as the waiter had said it would)
S. A.
Have had some excellent experiences at Wahaca in the past, but this time found the food and drinks uninspiring. Most of the tacos tasted the same and lacked the variety of previous visits.
D. S.
Weve been before which was great but this time there was some confusion. It now said on the menu of the tacos to order 2 or 3 of each to have enough as they are small, so we did and the staff didnt say anything even though there was only 2 adults and 2 kids..when it came each rder had 3 tacos so we didnt need to order 2 plates of each..we ended up with about 18 tacos for 2 adults!! We told the staff we'd made a mistake because of what the menu advised but no one did anything..only barely ate half of what we'd got on the table and paid over £125 for a mistake that could have been avoided if it said how big a portion was on the menu instead of advising you to buy more or if the staff had said something when they realised we were clearly over ordering for just 2 adults and 2 small kids. Expensive mistake which was partly down to bad advice..or maybe deliberate advice to get you to spend more??
J. B.
Stopped for a bite to eat and a business meeting. Sorry no pictures but I do recommend the hot chocolate with coconut milk..yummy
S.
Lovely place! Very well made and the food is really good! Quick service as well. The ambiance was great and you get a good view of Thames!
R. M.
😋😋 tasty tacos🌮🌮🌮 good service and nice food🍲🍲
S. H.
I don't think the food is very special, but given the atmosphere, the location and the price, this place is as good as it gets. I liked the fish taco.
V. S.
Great locations and views. Always enjoy the tapas and the usual beers they have to serve. Prices usual for London.
J. M.
Amazing food. Great service. Sabi is the best!!
J. P.
Absolutely lovely! Was really busy but still got given a table within 10 mins! Staff went out of their way to make it special as I said it was a birthday treat and got a candle on the desert for the birthday girl without asking! We had a feast and it didn't break the bank at all! Lovely cocktails, lovely food, brilliant service and we had kids with us! If you're in Southbank and need a meal it's a must! Big thank you to Patryicja for being an absolute gem!
J. J.
Great food, amazing view, and super friendly staff. And they text you when a table is free so you don't have to queue in one spot.
J. S.
Lovely food and atmosphere. Happy with vegan options.
L. D.
Amazing food. Staff really helpful with suggestions on what to eat. Kids menu was brilliant value for money.
E. H.
Really great sharing menu - good selection of different things to try. They don't take bookings in the evening, but took our details and allowed us to come back when the table was ready. Came here years ago and was just as good as I remember.
S. R.
Various and tasty dishes, friendly service, upbeat music.
M. A.
We ate it all, and it was good.
We ordered all the set menues and some stand outs were:
The crab
The fried cauliflower
The chicken tacos
The pork tacos
The cheese and tomato quesadillas
The tenderstem broccoli
We also enjoyed some margaritas which were delicious
B. P.
Portions very small and pretty expensive. Staff was ok, but when we splitted the bill, we had some problems when paying
x.
Food was really good. Forgot to take a pics of it
M. F.
Very nice Mexican food. Great staff.
A. B.
Great service and good location. Food tasty
S. R.
Looks like a small container restaurant but opens out to quite a size. Full wahaca menu which include v,VG and gf options. Go for the spice, stay for the frozen Margherita!
G. H.
Love this place! Busy and buzzing. Good food and the deep fried crickets were OK as well!
O. M.
The vegetarian burrito wasn’t good.
But everything else was exquisite.
R. S.
Interesting setting (stacked containers) with lovely view and good food. Staff were very welcoming and pleasant.
t. w.
Great food but the service was brilliant, really friendly and informative.
P. H.
Great location, friendly and helpful staff and a fabulous and innovative selection of food. We also loved the cocktails. Will definitely come back!
W. O.
Good Mexican Street food style rest. Guacamole was a bit bland and underseasoned, however could not fault anything else.
Very good set up and would definitely recommend and visit again.
J. W.
Staff were super accommodating despite being incredibly busy, food was fantastic
K. R.
Unique decor, lovely staff, lovely food. Can’t complain. Would go again.
S. G.
Excellent as always. Lovely menu and service
F. F.
Nice mexican food, small portions for the price, the burritos are really worth it though! Beers are heavily overpriced. Staff is great and food arrived fast
K. M.
Great night out with excellent Mexican food. Good variety of dish sizes and choices for either single meals or making up shared dishes. Would recommend.
B. S.
Food is always fantastic. Guac' isn't great but the food is amazing. Staff are lovely fun and professional. Cocktails are tasty. Good location.
G. V.
Great atmosphere, cute and tropical interior, and tasty food! But unfortunately they don't let you sit upstairs (much nicer!) without ordering food...The drinks are good but way too much ice...
R. M.
What a fantastic place, food was amazing, they were so good with my allergies, the food turnaround was incredibly quick. I would highly recommend
R. B.
Love the shipping containers. And the usual excellent Wahaca food with great staff. Of and pay at the table via phone, the future is now!
H. H.
Very friendly staff nice vegan options, made a lovely lunch
A. G.
Loved loved loved! Location amazing, venue excellent, i cannot fault the service it was on point (Thank you Javi) Javi the server realised I spoke Spanish and as my partner looks Spanish he thought we both did and he asked if we spoke Spanish, and I said I did but my partner didn't...i thought it was so professional that he said we will stick to English then with a huge smile on his face and i saw my partner was relieved too haha....the food was amazing so tasty i have not one complaint only that I wish that Burrito was a never ending one 😭🤣🤣 Thank you to all at Wahaca!
A.
Really nice, tasty and a fair price. The place itself is inside shipping containers and its very funky. Staff are very good as well.
M. W.
Good food, not keen on the automatically added tip though! Read your bill!
M. M.
The staff were wonderful, friendly, polite, knowledgeable about their food and drink.
L. B.
Excellent service, our waiter was Sabi and he was brilliant! Explained everything and really helpful. Food was amazing will def be back.
N. R.
Brilliant location to be able to sit on the National Gallery terrace and eat Mexican street food. The menu is always a hit.
J. W.
Strange eating Mexican food in a cut out shipping container. Beer selection was odd but I would go again.
J. P.
A pleasure to find somewhere bustling, offering plenty of outside space while still having great COVID measures- clear pathways/ hand sanitizer stations/ individual loo cubicles. Still buzzing with great ambience. Our waiter Anton was fabulous. We enjoyed some great food & lots of margaritas!
D. M.
Tasty food, great location and all the allergy info you need
D. R.
This is such a great idea. Adding shipping containers to a small space the create a restaurant. The service and food were great with a great view of the Thames too!
P. C.
Sat outside, which was quite nice. Food is lovely, with loads of veggie options! They say you should have 3-4 per person, but we had 2 each plus shared nachos and that was more than enough. The passionfruit margarita was so good!
G. P.
Very nice and cozy place with nice food and amazing cocktails.
H.
Great Mexican restaurant, so much to try. Food quality was excellent I highly recommend giving this place a go.
A. G.
Nice experience overall, only petty that everything is way too spicy. I actually found it hard to digest it
R. B.
Food not that great. Lacked taste. Portions quite small. Only these nachos were good.
M. M.
I have liked Wahaca in the past but my last experience was pretty disappointing. The food was nothing special and the portions quite small, which made it extremely bad value. For the money, I would expect a lot more.
Sadly, I will not be back for a while, for sure. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly which is always a big plus.
M. P.
Busy.
Ob
Verworked staff.
Food wasn't great (better at other restaurants in their chain)
B. L.
Love this place. It would be nice if they took pets inside.
R. S.
Really enjoyed the service we had here, Eduardo was lovely and looked after us really well. The rest of the front of house team we’re also very helpful and friendly. Food was really tasty, not been here for a while and enjoyed the old favourites such as the sweet potato tacquito. Didn’t love the crab and avocado tostada though so dropped a star for that. Would definitely recommended!
S. C.
Great experience! Deliscious food and great service. Impressed by all the veg options.
S. C.
Food lovely as ever. Service a little slow, but good all round.
L. R.
Absolutely fantastic place! The food is amazing and the service was splendid (thank you Michal)
K. J.
Lush location, great food. Quick and friendly service. Pay on app to save time.
I. C.
Nice place, food very good, and staff friendly.
S. M.
Fantastic experience. We stumbled upon this gem of a place while we were looking for some place to eat and we were not disappointed! We managed to get one of the outdoor pods overlooking the river, with its own speaker system we could hook our phones up to.
The menu was incredible and the food was top notch. It filled us up and tasted amazing.
On top of the food and atmosphere, out server Mickey was top notch. He was friendly, helpful, informative and was great fun to speak to.
Will definitely be returning again!
E. L.
Lovely staff and good food with lot’s of variety! Very clean and quirky area looking out onto the Thames.
They have a very interesting vegan menu available. I recommend the sweet potato burrito with cashew nut mole and tomatillo. I added some cheese and it was lovely.
E. T.
Food is very nice but service was exceptional. Thank you
c. a.
Wow... loved this place! Brilliant food, fantastic service, great drinks menu, great value for money
M. A.
Great food and atmosphere. Some of the best tacos and margaritas I've ever had. Friendly staff and lots of options.
F. T.
Great service! The waiter and waitress who served us were great. The waitress, Katarina, was super friendly with a really good high energy that made us smile. Also, one of the waiters (forgot to ask for his name!) was very helpful when we asked to swap our drinks. So the service was great!
The food was okay...it wasn't the best Mexican meal I've had but it wasn't bad either. It was just...okay.
The best thing about the place was the great service, and also the fact that there was outdoor seating.
C. L.
Food was fantastic as usual, and staff are all very smiley and lovely. Really clean toilets and all staff were abiding by the covid 19 regulations and were quick to politely correct customers who werent, which I loved.
Only draw back was that after we finished our mains, I asked for the bill, our waitress then offered us dessert, I asked for the bill again and then we waited 25 mins for our bill to arrive.
A. M.
Excellent food and Service at reasonable prices. Not much else needs to be said, always had a great time here
A. C. C.
Nice Mexican street food. Great views from the upper "floor", lucky that it was sunny. A good place to have some food before a show in the Southbank.
J. C.
Great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and delicious food.
C. F.
Excellent service. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The food is always incredible. We got the Favourites set menu which offers a wide variety of dishes that Wahaca has to offer for a great price. Although beware that it's a lot of food! Definitely worth it though as the food is always amazing. This wahaca also has the unique feature of being in reused shipping containers and looks incredible.
J. L.
Better than the typical chain Mexican restaurant.
V. D.
Tasting menus give you a lot of things to try. The food is delicious, some of the veg options in particular.
B. W.
Great food and service. Relaxing atmosphere.
S. C.
Love the South Bank.. Always something going on here. Such a good walk.
J. J. (. G. E.
Very loud and busy restaurant. Food was average and portions quite small in relation to the cost. We had several waiters look after us, felt like we had to be quick to order...
Perhaps take a little more time to get the orders in and make sure the table 100% ready. Apart from this an easy atmosphere to relax and chat.
If you can try to get the elclove table!
S. M.
Interesting food and fine service. Fair price.
I. N.
Quick Mexican food with friendly staff serving it. The menu offers a good selection of dishes that can be shared and customised if you wish. If there’s a wait for a table they might offer you to wait at the bar which is nice enough in itself and you shouldn’t be there for too long since tables come up frequently.
L. L.
Very nice friendly staff and a quirky look and layout. It's definitely a different feel and look to the normal restaurants. Nice to sit outside abs have the view over the river. Always great food.
E. G.
Nice Mexican place, really enjoyed the tacos and the fresh guacamole. The Margheritas were great and overall good value for money in London. Only reason for a 4 star was the veggie tacos weren't the best but the meat tacos were great
S. M.
Good food with a nice view!
L. G.
Simply put this place is quality. Great views, fantastic staff and most importantly the food is top class. My son (8 years old) praised the food so much that he got to see the chef (well actually the whole team) in the kitchen. I cannot recommend enough.
A. P.
Great food, great atmosphere, went on a Friday night and the whole place kind of turned into a party! Live music and dancing for those who want to
E. T.
Excellent Sonora salad with feta and avocado. Delish. Catalin our server was super. Above and beyond.
S. G.
Really good customer service and very quick. Food ok, we ordered the tapas dishes, quite a few of them.
T.
Great Mexican food!
P. H.
Food was excellent. Reasonable prices and in an area where there was a great atmosphere and plenty going on
D. M. M.
This place is really aesthetic. The staff is very friendly and close. The food is awesome, full of flavors and good proportion. We tried the Classic menu for two and it was a very good selection of Mexican food. It is a good option if you are not sure about what you wanna eat. Moreover, they have an Instagram account with photos of most of their meals that could be really helpful.
C. W.
I have always liked the food however visit today (first since lockdown) the food was better than ever - a few minor changes to the menu all worked really well - we had set menu favourite - and margaritas excellent as usual
K. B.
Amazing food. We ordered loads of tacos from their gluten free menu and they were all delicious. Waiter was fast and efficient and knowledgeable about the dishes and their ingredients. Was very busy but tables not so close together and intrusive. Lighting and music both perfect for the ambience. Will definitely come back.
A. N.
We waited over an hour and a half to get a table and had to ask the attendants almost 3 times that we were still waiting. Not sure if this is the norm.
The food however made up for the wait. We had a selection of tacos and other sharing bits. I would highly recommend the plantain tacos, they were absolutely delicious. We didn’t like the fish tacos as much.
F. G.
Never been to wahaca before. Bloody loved it. Staff friendly and supportive of all allergies. Food comes when ready which is great. Some items a little spicy. Will 100 percent be going back to a wahaca and trying other menu items. - highly recommended the nachos
K. A.
I've been here a few times over the years. As a fan of the Southbank there's aonly a couple of places I've not eaten or enjoyed a drink.
Wahaca is well positioned along the southbank. It's set back from the bustle of passers-by but close enough to see the people and pick up the vibe.
The prics are reasonable, consdiering the location. The quality of the food is very good too.
2020 Covid compliance is very good. There's a reasonable number of tables outside, and the indoor spacing is veru good.
The staff are friendly and the overall experience will almost definitely be a positive one.
A. H.
It's always very busy at this Wahaca and it's not unusual to have to wait a while for a table, but as long as you know this it's actually not too bad. There is a bar where you can wait and have some drinks, the atmosphere is bustling, and the wait staff are very fast at getting food out from the kitchens despite the venue always being packed.
The food is like it is at all other Wahacas. Consistently tasty, but quite far from authentic Mexican food. Delicious though!
W. R.
I LOVED the decor and the entire aesthetic. The food was very tasty, reasonably-priced, and arrived promptly. I only give it 4/5 stars because I felt we were asked to order so soon after being given the menus that we all made very rushed decisions. However if you know what you're getting, I don't have a single complaint about this place. :) Additionally, if you're unsure what each dish looks like, (admittedly I had no idea what most of the dishes were) you can look them up on their Instagram (noted on the menus).
R. P.
Delicious food but the waiting staff were quite rude and manipulative when we payed only half of the recommended tip (which was very high). The fact is we could barely afford the meal. The waiters probably make a fair amount with their wage and the tips they get, more than me anyway. Was quite offended actually, I don’t like being judged or bullied into paying more than i’m able, I doubt I’ll go again for that reason.
R. T.
The food was pretty good. Guacamole was not bad, salsa was good and the chicken burrito was very good. Everyone else's tacos and quesadillas looked good too.
Service was different than most places: we had a large group and a couple children. The kids order was immediately taken and food followed quickly(great). No adult drink orders was taken on the meantime. Once we got drinks we waited a few additional minutes before the food order was taken: the server was a bit overwhelmed and even forgot to ask one adult what he wanted. In fact, one person got part of his order before the last person put his in. In all it was almost 20 minutes from the first adult food arriving to the last person having a plate. There were 8 adults.
I would go back, but for a quick lunch where I did not expect to eat all together. Like a food truck style meal in a building.
T. M.
Briliant stuf nice food gonna back for sure at this place
R. w.
Not very authentic but ok for a quick meal.
O. M.
In the plus side, once saw B-list film stars working the tables there 💥WOW💥
On the downside, my wife thinks I got Covid from there.
These two things are not connected. Hopefully no. At least I hope my wife doesn't connect them. Phew! 😎
P. W.
Good service. The waitress had matching trainers to my child.
M. H.
Good Mexican food, with plenty of sitting space outside. Good to see that staff are maintaining covid safety measures.
H. M.
Hot day but we all enjoyed the tacos, and uncle matt tried the toast beer too
S. -. M.
Nice food, but overpriced for what you get. The food comes out as and when its cooked, which is fine but we had most food come out within a few minutes of each other, and then my daughter was left waiting for hers for over 15 minutes. The actual restaurant is far too claustrophobic and noisy too.
P. D.
Food was ok, price was high for the kind of food they serve.
C. S.
Have been coming here with the family since 2012 when they come and visit London. Great food and service as always. Exciting and ever changing menu that keeps the popular staples. Cocktails are always lush, good twist on the classics. Thanks for feeding the in-laws!
R. S.
Great experience here this afternoon, staff were very accomodating as we had a wheelchair user in our group.
Fantastic food and drinks too, we loved it!
S. C.
Absolutely amazing! First time I've been with my friends and the food was delicious and everyone was so friendly
D. C.
I was never really a fan of Wahaca after my previous experiences at other restaurants. I don't know what it was about this one (probably the chefs) but I found the food to be very tasty and moreish as you'd expect from Mexican food. I'd consider the price of the food very good in proportion to the quality. I'd certainly come here if I wanted to go to Wahaca again.
One thing that annoyed me a little is how cramped the seating was, staff and other customers were bumping into my chair the entire time I was there. The staff there are crazy too they run around like headless chickens but they are friendly if you manage it catch one. I'd give this 5* if it wasn't for these last points.
I. V.
Cool location, food was good but not amazing!
j. d.
Amazing food, excellent staff and service. Could not recommend this place enough. There is something for everyone and the staff know the menu inside out and so can advise you if it's your first venture into Mexican cuisine. The atmosphere is amazing with great music and a real buzz about the place. Altogether one of the highlights of the South Bank.
C. D.
Food was lovely just want we needed after walking round London all day
s. s.
Lovely ambience and great food!
N. B.
Goot atmosphere, good food, good location, child friendly and relaxed. Quite pricey for what you get, but really good service.
N. T.
Wonderful! Great dishes and it is good fun to choose and share food (you do share food, right?).
All precautions were in place during the Covid-19 outbreak, it felt very safe.
A. d. V.
Really nice place, I liked the red soft light and how the tables were arranged. The meal was ok, I took a burrito which was quite full and had a rich taste. My mom took different plates like tapas and other things. At the end churros with chocolate, they were delicious.
The only flaw was the waiting, a little more than 30 min and no place to wait, so in winter it's not great, I recommend you reserve it. But then the service was fast considering the people and the waiter funny
B. F.
Brilliant food served without a wait. 2 of us went ordered 6 things from the menu and we felt we ordered just right. The food was delicious and the drinks were great.
Service was very good and I would highly recommend this place as part of your day.
We spent aims £45 which included 3 beers and a cocktail. Dishes were between £5-6 each. Great value for excellent food. The atmosphere was vibrant and busy, we waited 15 minutes to be seated, but the guys at the bar are really good and make great cocktails. Totally recommend Wahaca at Southbank
T. D.
Great food, fantastic service from Sabi, who was very friendly (but not overly so.).
L. C.
This a busy restaurant with a hectic vibe. Based in the lovely Southbank area it is uniquely designed and queuing is often the case for a table. Using technology to enhance the experience you have the gadget to hold to notify you once a table is ready. This is great as it allows you to go to the bar for a drink. You also can pay for the bill using an app and to share the bill, which is handy to pay and go.
The food, more importantly, is quite nice and reasonably portioned. Nicely flavored and with a few options for those with specific dietary requirements. Drinks and cocktails are fine. The prices are not too high and the environment is spacious to not be overcome by too much noise.
The staff is friendly and service is quite quick. Due to technology replacing some elements of the service the staff is generally focused on delivering your food.
Great for groups or couples it is worth a visit.
I. M.
Mexican food, it is okay but nothing special.
M. M.
Great location along the riverfront! The service was very good and quick. Our food was delivered hot and delicious. Would have liked a few more chips than what was brought to us in a small bowl but no other complaints.
A. H.
Our waitress, Andrea made us feel welcome straight away, and explained the menu beautifully! Service was very fast and the taste experience was a new one for me. Would come again next time we're in Town...
s. k.
Place is aptly located in southbank, the beating heart of London. Menu is okay but pricey. Food is above average but service is not good as the waiters don't come to ask and one has to constantly on their lookout should one need anything else.
S. S.
Great food in a lovely location. Excellent service and very attentive when it comes to food allergies. However the bar area is tiny and very cramped. It also feels intrusive walking past diners to get a drink whilst waiting for a table.
S. F.
Lovely restaurant part of a consistently good chain, with great flavours, ever-changing seasonal menus, fresh ingredients and a healthy feel to it. Excellent service and cocktails too! However, do not be fooled by seemingly empty tables when you walk past. The one annoying thing about this particular branch is that there always seems to be a wait. And when you're told 15-20 minutes, it can often be longer. Get in quick, put your name down for a table, grab your electronic calling device ASAP if you're the first in your group to arrive!
o. s.
I think they need a few more staff, they're run off their feet here. Food was pretty prompt but a bit hit and miss - mushroom and cheese tacos were just greasy stodge but the Mexican nachos were great. One item missed off our order and the bill was wrong... Just little mistakes that got fixed but showed it's a bit of a shambles.
S. I.
This restaurant was a great place to meet my friend for lunch. Margaritas were a great way to start. Caroline, our waitress was very helpful as my friend hasn't been before. We chose 3 of the sharing options which were delicious and then a chocolate dessert with ice cream - yum!
D. H.
Totally loved this place. The food was so delicious! I know will eat more Mexican in the future. I loved the music in the restaurant. So festive. seeing the hive of activity on Southbank added to the ambience of the place. Marta served us well.
D. D.
Food was good, service less so. Asked for a desert menu was approached 20 minutes later by the server telling us he's going on his break soon so can we pay... Needless to say I did not stay for dessert.
L. W.
It's tasty, has good vibe, good selection. But portions are definitely getting smaller. You're paying about £6 for a single small quesadillas cut in half...
C. A.
Initially service was quick and then we had to wait a while for our drink order and ask again for drink. Food was good and an affordable price. Saw a mouse in the restaurant as we were wrapping up our meal. Staff said it happens sometime due to proximity to river
A. J. L.
We missed our reservation. Despite this, Wahaca staff found a table for us – 8 adults, one little lad and one older boy – within two minutes. The place was amazingly busy, but our table felt pleasantly private. We were served by a very friendly, helpful and attentive bloke. The food absolutely was lovely: fresh, tasty, spicy. The Margaritas were great. We all enjoyed our stay thoroughly.

Friendly service and a good variety to choose from. Focus on tapas and shared platters, you can easily get 3 or 4 small dishes for £15 - £20 and be full afterwards. Food was very good, all clearly freshly made. Would definitely come back again.

12.5% OPTIONAL service charge that is added to your bill putting you in that socially awkward situation of not wanting to remove it from your bill and for many, they won't even realise there is a service charge.
If it's optional THEN BY DEFAULT IT SHOULD NOT be added to the bill.
The place is FAR too narrow. Staff have to go up and down the stairs to get food up, and the stairs are too narrow just like the rest of the place. You are left having to wait for staff and customers to make their way through this restaurant. It's stop and go stop and go traffic.
My waiter was friendly and the food was decent for a chain restaurant that gets all their food pre made.
When they tell you 'it's all cooked fresh'. That is a lie. The food is NOT cooked from raw ingredients that have not been modified already, on site.
I give it a 4 star rating because 12.5% optional charge feels like theft, when in others of their chain restaurants they don't do this. No 12.5% charge in other Whacas I have been to. Standardise and do NOT by default add it to the bill.
Do not like the interior. Toilets feel like port o toilets.
UPDATE: The food at this chain is much better than others I've been to from the same chain. Really good food. Just a shame the place is in shipping containers and have horrible toilets and broken door to mens toilet.

I liked Wahaca, the service and the food were really good; the location is also pretty and in a sunny day you can have a really good, chilled out lunch.
The building sucks though. It's small, cramped, and poorly laid out. If you have a party of four, they might be able to find a table to seat you all, but it will be a cramped experience. While the food, the view and the service do make up for this to an extent, practically it's not ideal. It's not just you after all, it's you jacket, your bag, and having elbow room.
A. G.
Liked the food but the place seemed very dirty, there is this metal cage wire around my table and was pretty disgusting, full of dust, fluff etc. Once you'd seen it was off putting.
J. L.
It's Wahaca - my favourite chain in the city, with reason.
Friendly service, reasonably-priced, decent - and most importantly consistent! - food, good beer selection and... tequila!
Haven't had a disappointing experience at any of their (multiple) locations yet.
J. R.
The food was excellent. Service was slow, but it was very busy, so to be expected. Our first waitress was brilliant, but our server was disinterested, seemed more keen to serve tables for 2. (We were 4). The margarita I had was a dreadfully apology for a drink. Cram the glass 11/12th full of ice, and the actual alcohol content is practically zero, I just about tasted tequila in the lime juice. £7 for that is a ripoff.
A. H.
The most delicious Mexican street food in London
H. K.
I should start by saying the food was very good and the portions were very decent too. What I didn't like was how cold it was! Unfortunately the service was pretty poor too though they didn't seem overly busy (but you never know). They were pretty slow to take orders, give menus etc. There was also a weird spotlight facing into our faces which they said they'd move in another direction (we asked twice) but they never did.
I also ripped the suede off the heel of my shoe on the stairs up to the bathroom as it slipped through the metal of the steps; not their fault but something to watch out for!

OUTSTANDING!
The food, the staff and the service were exceptional.
We have been served by the smiley and kind Thaina, we ordered a 'favourite set menu' she asked about allergies and I told her I can't have any citrus in my food, she promptly called her manager Stefano and he was so kind that instead of telling me "just choose something else" he went trough every dish and ingredient that they can swap to make sure I can eat everything and don't miss any flavour.
Thaina and Stefan were fantastic but also every member of staff was very kind and relaxed.
We loved our dinner and I will take my young daughter next week.
Thank you guys.
A. C.
I LOVED it here. I traveled to London to visit friends, and this was top of my list as somewhere to eat. It didn't disappoint. Amazing details, like little chili seeds to take away, great food and drink combos, friendly staff, incredible setting and building, and delicious food. So worth the visit.
K.
It was great! Excellent service, the waiters are really friendly and the food was really high quality: 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
M. S.
Great place. Nice location and amazing food. Staff is very friendly. It us very busy though so on a few occasions we had to skip this place because there were just too many people waiting. One can always wait at the bar that serves great drinks but it might be packed with other people waiting so be prepared.
L. V.
Great place to eat. The menu has a wide range of foods but could do with more choice in terms of main courses. The staff are all incredibly helpful and kind and it is a great place to bring (older) kids and family's. It isn't great for young kids as there is loud music and it gets very busy. The design of the place is brilliant and very bo-ho modern. The bar at the end of it has a wide range of drinks but is a bit small so could do with being bigger. The view from the upper floor is really nice as it overlooks some of the southbank and the river Thames.
M. M.
Standard Wahaca experience. However, given this is the Southbank, they coped well with the number of diners. It can be very busy!
The restaurant itself is run out of a number of shipping containers which have been welded together (think Boxpark). This makes for an interesting experience when walking around.
Food is good and usually served quickly.
E. C.
Food and drinks were amazing as always in wahaca and came super fast. staff were very kind however when I asked for the bill as I was in a rush they took 5 minutes to bring it then another 10mins until they brought the card reader so I could pay. Ended up missing my train due to this :/
S. W.
We were walking to the Shard and slightly earlier so we did a detour and stumbled across this place, I’m SO happy we did as it was honestly the best food I’ve eaten out for along time and the best Mexican food I’ve ever tried!! The staff were really friendly and helpful! Not too expensive either!
R. G.
Wahaca has always been a fail-safe option for food and drink. We were told we may have to wait up to 20 minutes for a seat, but only ended up waiting 5-10 minutes in the nice little bar area at the end. Service was friendly and efficient, and we went for the Veggie set menu, which was more than enough for two people. We didn't need to order the 2 extra plates! So all that, (8 plates), a beer and mojito cost £20 a head including tips. Not bad :)
E. A.
Good food options. First time there, ate from the Christmas lunch menu - to share with others. Some seating areas are not suited to groups. We had to sit somewhat apart in groups which wasn't too great. Meals are not too spicy or too pricy for the location. 12.5% tip on bill so take note. Would recommend.
C. B.
It's a great spot for having a super casual bite after work. Food is very good - creative while still maintaining authenticity. Drinks are good. Service is friendly and fast - which is important since it gets very (very) busy.
C. H.
Really great food in a fantastic location. Cricket salsa was a bit questionable?
S. B. L.
I really enjoyed this venue and food, sitting here a summer evening and looking out over Themes and having tacos, tequila and beer - what could possibly go wrong?
Somewhat small plates which I dislike, so I went for like 7 dishes myself (sure I was stuffed, but anyway..), but not only because the plates were small, also cause it was tasty and good!
S. Z.
The food is as per usual amazing. Unfortunately, we went on the hottest day of the year, there is no AC on the lower floor so we weren't fully able to enjoy our meal. But other than that it was amazing.
M. F.
Well organised chaos. Great healthy and quick kids meals. Ask your bartender to tell you about the tequilas! Ole!
L. G.
Found this restaurant after watching Rick Stein visiting Wahaca in Mexico and loving the food he sampled. We wanted to find Mexican food during our visit to London this week and Wahaca in it's pile of containers really gave us everything we could have hoped for. We had a great meal with lovely surroundings and great music. The staff were happy and friendly and the food (street food) was an excellent way to sample different dishes. Will definitely return.
Z. Z. K.
2nd time visiting/eating here. Lovely staff, relaxed atmosphere, great cocktails, great price & ever so yummy food!! Try the sweet potato side, crispy, garlic goodness & the Mushroom Enchilada had my tastebuds dancing!!! Will definitely go back!!
N. J.
Friendly service. Tasty pork burrito and it wasn't too filling which meant I had some room for their indulgent churros! Made sitting outside in the winter all the more worthwhile.
N. W.
Great place, food and atmosphere with view at the river. Only negative is the fact that they used to deduct unpaid bills from staff's pay. Treat your staff well please! Great that they have stopped doing this. Other than that, always fantastic experience!
M. T.
Great service and really good food! A bit expensive but good quality and sustainable.
J. T.
Great People great food amazing atmosphere and great view of the Thames
Highly recommended!
K. J.
Excellent customer service and knowledge from waitress. Food average. Would have been 4 stars if chairs were more comfortable. Old wooden school chairs extremely uncomfortable for tall people. Pls invest in higher quality chairs.
D. G.
Fantastic food. This was my first visit and everyone had to wait as I ordered part of my order again as it was so good. Will be making a visit here again. Had to wait a bit to get a table but it was a Saturday night.
E. A.
I like the Wahaca chain, and this is probably the best branch because of its location overlooking the river. Because of that there's often queues in the summer, though you can always grab a tasty margarita at the bar while you wait! And make sure you order the sweet potato and feta taquitos.
H. T.
Very happy welcome. Food served quickly but you are not in any way rushed. Good offer on the menu at the moment. Love the fact you can pay using the app. which helps if your in a rush or if they're busy. Our waiter was very attentive and apologised when something was forgotten from our plate. The manager then offered us free deserts which was a measure of great service.
B. S.
We ate at the Wahaca van outside, and had tasty burritos and drinks - perfect for a quick stop before carrying on our adventure of the Southbank
D. S.
Amazing food: not just spicy, but well seasoned and mixed. Huge amount of variety, with some great innovation. Lovely service, which is fast. Don't let them rush you through, they're so good that you may feel pressure to eat too quickly, but SAVOUR IT! Often a long wait, but they have a bar for you to wait in with lovely cocktails and great river views, or you can walk around nearby and be buzzed back with one of those smart things. You can pay on an app, meaning no time waiting around for bills etc, although Android Pay in the app would be useful for quicker payment. If it's your first time, get the set menu (although if you don't fancy it, they'll talk you through what you might want).
P. L.
Truly outstanding. The food was delicious and good advice from the staff. The staff where on fire! what a team, they moved with precision and expertise, attending to every detail - drinks, food questions anything. The whole experience was a joy, cannot wait to return, and it didn't cost a fortune. One of the culinary highlights of the summer, thank you so much.
B. H. P.
Fun little riverside shipping container restaurant on the south bank. Food was great, little dishes filled us three chaps up and we're big eaters. Nice beers too. Dyego serving us was fun and friendly too
K. M.
Absolutely fantastic meal with service to match.
V. M.
It was an amazing experience and I enjoyed it immensely especially because of our waiter Janos who couldn't do enough for us. He is a genuine guy who enjoys his work and gave us tips of what to order as it was our first time to the restaurant. I would give the restaurant 5 stars
m. r.
Beautiful food and great views. Went with my partner and 3 kids visiting London, Rita who worked there was brilliant and the food was right up my street. Definitely recommend to anybody visiting that part of London.
R. N.
hurrah! Finally found a place to count on for a good quick lunch on the Southbank. Great price for really great food. Who knew you could find good Mexican food in London so easily? I regret the years I did not go. Friendly and quick staff.
H. M.
Good bar and food. Portions are a bit small for my preference.
D. W.
Good food and cocktails, nice location. Gluten free menu and awareness for celiac disease was great. They send a manager over to deal with allergies, so you know they take it seriously.
Their pay app wasn't working at this location, but that wasn't a big deal.
M. Á. G.
Great prices, especially the set menus. The restaurant is quite fun, inside containers, and lively music makes you happy while you wait. Drinks on the smallish añside, but great value for money overall
G. I.
Came here for a Christmas lunch with work colleagues. It was a little chaotic, but there were 14 of us. The food was good, but it was slightly spoilt by the way we ended up having to just take a selection from two fixed menus
Would like to come back and try in a smaller social group
T. S.
Went on a busy Friday evening so had a wait for a table. Sat in the bar area which was fairly busy. Nice selection of drinks, plus salsa or guacamole and chips as snacks whilst waiting.
When the table was ready, we ordered the Selection, which is a 2 person sharer that comes out when it's ready rather than all at once. One part of the selection was forgotten and we had to ask for it. I personally didn't really enjoy all of the dishes however that was my preference rather than an indication of the quality of the food as everything was cooked well.
I like the option of paying via the App at the end, where you can add the tip and any comments for your server. I'd go again, but would select specific dishes.
R. P.
Food was up to the same standard as other Wahacas - so, fresh and tasted great! Staff were friendly. Was a Tuesday late lunch, so there was plenty of space without queuing.
There were quite a few fruit flies around out table which was a bit distracting, but otherwise fantastic.
F. H.
I like the food even though the portions are small. Quirky restaurant built inside transport containers. Too loud music for my taste. Didn't like the venue at all. Mistake in service. Weak four.
A. L.
Tasty food! But long wait, got the order wrong, and finished eating before other people's food arrived
C. H.
Lovely flavourful food served in a great bubbly atmosphere. My only critic would be that I had a quite a wait for my food, but our server was great at keeping me updated and it was a Saturday night. All in all - great night out
D. W.
Super cool place and super organised! The guy at the entrance told us to wait 20 minutes at the bar and they call us actually in 20 minutes!
The menu has a large selection of street food and tipical Mexican dishes and it's all super tasty.
The service is very quick and our waitress Jess was super kind. I will surely come back!
L. C.
Bloody lovely. Great food and a good atmosphere.
A. J.
Had to wait a while to get seated as it was very busy but the staff were friendly and the service was great.
Food came in good time and in regards to quality and quantity it was perfect!
Overall nice atmosphere and we'll definitely be coming back.
D. P.
I love love love Wahaca...every one ive been too the food is always excellent and filling!
The staff are super friendly and polite.
The southbank one is quite funky with brilliant use of of shipping containers made in to rooms over looking the river thames.
And the openess of the restaurant adds to a great atmosphere.
J. R.
Great food! Nice and fresh Mexican food, you won't find any of that tex mex rubbish here. Usually great service and a nice atmos. Slightly unusual venue as it a series of shipping containers on top of one another so its cost inside but at a great location on the south bank. Last time I was there the menu is slightly different, perhaps smaller compared to other Wahaca's. Best idea is to order a wide variety of small plates. Note that dishes are served as soon as they're ready so dishes will come out randomly.
I. L.
Pretty good food. A good group strategy is to get lots of smaller dishes and share them. Prices seemed a tad steep. Service was ok. Alright choice if you’re in the area.
A. A.
Nice lunch. Very filling. We asked for a meat based selection of their menu.
All types of textures and fillings arrived.
The best being the pulled pork soft taco,. We weren't in love with the plantain taco.
A. H.
Having eaten there before I took some South Africans and the whole casual dining experience is great. They do however strongly suggest you to go for the sharing dishes but I would encourage you to take your time looking at the menu and talking to the table staff and choose an individual meal.
D. S.
Fabulous restaurant. Great food and drink and always a warm welcome. Highly recommended
E. T.
This place is quite nice for a chain. If you get lucky to be outside whenn the weather is nice, you'll almost feel like you actually are in Mexico! Staff are friendly. However some tables definitely feel a bit of a squeeze
M. A.
A very pleasant, stylish restaurant - the food was the perfect level of spiciness, very nicely presented and definitely worth the prices, which are very reasonable for central London. An open plan and creatively designed restaurant, with lots of fresh air on a sunny day. The service was very friendly and very fast, which definitely tops off the experience. Loved it.
R. E.
We chanced this place looking for something we hadn't tried before and it was brilliant!
They were really busy, so much so that we waited 10 mins or so for a table, but this was well organised and gave us chance to get a drink from their bar - the Hibiscus and Passionfruit Cooler is a winner!
We had the vegetarian set menu along with extra nachos, and churros for dessert as we're big eaters! Everything was delicious, and I had a few things I haven't seen before!
As busy as it was, all of the staff seemed to be on the ball and keeping a really friendly atmosphere going. We got really good service throughout, and we'd like to give particular thanks to our waitress Gina! :D
K.
Fab food; great atmosphere
D.
Ahhh Wahaca. I am never let down by their food which is the best, but this branch is especially great because of its location and relatively small size just on the Thames. I always order way too many things from the menu but never regret it because everything comes out delicious.
M. K.
Cool location in stacked containers at the Thames. Have been to other Wahaca's before but this was definitely the best experience. They changed the menu and I tried the the fish on green sauce with grains. Very delicious!
L. O.
Very lovely staff that were always there for us. The (Mexican) food was freshly made and tasted delicious. There are even two pods outside where a group of probably 5-6 could sit and dine. Maybe next time....
G. S.
Great food, drinks and service!
S. P.
Good food, and a lovely manager let me change my order even after it had been prepared. However, the bar wasn’t able to prepare any hot drinks and the waiter responsible for my table first kept me waiting but hurried to serve a party of three women who just happened to be dressed for a night out and then shortchanged me.
H. P.
Great service great menu....
J. M.
Great location and tasty food. Love that you can order lots of small plates to share. Really fresh tasting ingredients. Staff are nice
J. R.
We have always struggled to find a good yet fairly quick spot to grab a bite to eat before a show at Royal Festival Hall, but I think we have found our answer. Last evening we were able to grab some fish tacos and a pork burrito and some guacamole. The service was quick and friendly and the atmosphere fun. But most important it was tasty and quick. You can eat outside by the river, or upstairs inside (which is what we did).
N. G.
Had very good service and food was lovely.
C. P.
Seated a large group quickly on a saturday without booking. Food was good but the mains portion sizes were the same as the street food (veg enchilada was anyway!). So that was a bit disappointing. Despite this had a good evening and some lovely flavours.
M. F.
The staff here were so lovely and great measures in place to reduce covid risk. Food pretty standard but does the job!! Very happy with the service
K. W.
Excellent Mexican/Spanish street food. First time at a Wahaca. Food served very fast. Went for Sunday lunch. Have some seating outside too but plenty inside. Great service especially by the member of staff who attended to us, Emanuel / Manuel (sorry couldn't remember the name exactly) who was very friendly and helpful. Thank you.
C. O.
The food is awesome! It tastes really good and they have a big variety of foods. A few meals are are a bit more spicy than told on the menu but its mexican so its okay. The staff is nice and funny. Dont go to the website to find the local, search for it in maps because on the website the marker is very bad positioned. They dont have real chairs so its not as comfortable as it should be but it fits the ambiance of the container and everything.
Food: 10/10
Portions: 9/10
Variety: 10/10
Ambiance: 9/10
Price: 8/10
I would definately eat there again!
S. B.
Great, friendly service, good food, and a unique and interesting environment.
N. K.
Had a nice time here, was confused why we had to wait for a table when there was loads of empty ones when we went to the waiting area. Food was nice, the pulled pork burrito is always spicy and delicious. Good thing you can pay on your phone as it made paying a lot easier. The salted caramel and cocoa nib ice cream is amazing, wish I could buy tub and tubs of it!!!
M. E.
Loved this place! Great food, good margaritas and cool decor. We had to wait about 45 mins for having dinner but we could wait sitting at the bar having a drink, so it was not bad. The staff was very friendly and helpful. At some point they asked us to move to a different table because they had a big party waiting to come in, so they gave us free dessert for the unconvenience. About the food, the guacamole was particularly good. Also loved the chicken mole taco and the british steak burrito. Will be back!
S. B.
Standard wahaca food, staff were nice but persistent, I guess that's their job! They got the order wrong but changed it. The views from this place are what make it. Upstairs is great. Toilets are dated.
C. R.
A great place for food and atmosphere! It's a great looking building with views over the river located on the Southbank. The Mexican cuisine is good for a relaxed fun evening and the staff are so welcoming and helpful.
R. S.
I came at closing time the food was really good but the service was so slow and 1 enchilada entree had bugs in the lettuce. It happens sometimes and the restaurant was very professional about it, they took it off the bill and apologized. I definitely feel they can get my 5 stars, if they take this feedback.
j. g.
the main meals were fun and quite good- the meat could have been hotter. I was disappointed because we look forward very much to one particular dessert they usually serve at this chain- salted caramel ice cream. It was not on the menu and the ice cream we chose instead was yucky and came in a cardboard tub- mine was gritty and grainy- it had not been kept properly or frozen and melted and refrozen but it was plain and simply not nice- please will they ensure they bring back real salted caramel. We will not order ice cream there again unless they bring back real ice cream instead of tubs (at very expensive prices for a tub)
The only other problem with this chain is we have taken friends before and ordered several small dishes only to walk out and they still feel hungry. A six foot six inch male walked out and said, "right now can we get dinner!" which is not a great advert for a restaurant
K. T.
Amazing restaurant and bar with a great selection of food and drink. Everything is a good price and really delicious. It can be so busy though so I would definitely make a reservation- you can't make one for after 6pm so when we shower up at around 8 we had to wait 40 mins to get a table
H. B.
Amazing place to spend an evening with Mexican food, prepared very quickly, tasty and with staff doing a real great job (Kudos to Fran!) - all located nicely near the river on the Southbank. Didn’t have to wait longer than 5-10 mins for a table. Definitely worth a visit!
L. G.
I can be a little picky as I don't like spicy food, but this was the best meal I have had in a while!
My boyfriend and I shared a main dish which was a chilli pot with guacamole, sour cream etc, and we also ordered a few other dishes.
The waiter was really friendly, helpful and the food was quick, hot and delicious!
Definitely recommend this branch due to the cool pop up layout!
J. S.
Went to the street van on the south bank, it was good food but there were pidgeons all over the tables and a complete lack of interest from the staff to clean them before we sat down. Food was good but a tad over priced for burrito. Would definitely prefer to go into the restaurant next time
J. J.
Great service, loved the decor.
C. B.
Good food, good service, good views. Well done Wahaca, a great way to spend my birthday after a long lockdown.
S. S.
Loved it, brilliant! Staff bent over backwards for us! And the open front style to the restaurant was lovely! I've attached a picture of the view, my only gripe is the fact that the coke wasn't chilled, they did offer ice (I'm not a fan of ice in coke)
