Reviews of Wild Honey St James
A.
The first thing I saw when walking towards the building was the magnificent architecture.
Once I entered and arrived at the bar, I could feel and see a positive vibe and energy all around me.
The food was unbelievably delicious. It was beautifully cooked, presented and served. The octopus was the best I’ve ever tasted so far. The venison meat was not only succulent, rich and fully flavoured, but also halal (it can be catered if requested a week in advance).
Last but definitely not least, the staff was professional at all times, had a sharp eye to the finest details and it was enjoyable to chat with many of them.
Overall, it was a unique and marvellous experience that will not be forgotten. Bravo!!

Love love love this place. Came here over the weekend for my birthday and it was amazing. All the staff very attentive. Was a slight delay in the kitchen but we didn’t mind as when the food came it was perfect and got complimented with a free drink and dessert. I think it was the assistant manager who was dealing with us who was really nice. Would 10/10 go back if I was in the area would highly recommend
R. C.
A truly 5 star dining experience. Staff greeted us with a smile and were very welcoming and helpful. They could answer all our questions and were attentive. The food was brilliant. Style and substance. Well crafted dishes executed with precision. The combination of basil and apricots with the cheesecake was divine. The mushroom tart is a must. Thoroughly impressed
C.
Amazing pre-theatre menu and spot on service. Ox cheek was delicious and very tender. Highly recommend. I will definitely come back.

Amazing setting, very good food..nice atmosphere..but the best is Marina! She is kind, smart and so professional! Thanks Marina for making our dinner even more special!

Attended as part of a 6 course London Gastronomic Restaurant Event and had 2 first courses at Wild Honey.
Previously been to their old restaurant and have always enjoyed their food and again they did not disappoint.
Always great food and I really like their new premises.
R.
Staff was friendly and the food was good. However the set menu is very limited and not particularly inspiring. Rabbit Terrine was meh.
M. R.
The food and drink were very good but the best part was the service. Every staff member made our 5 hour lunch the best it could have been. The melon starter was luscious.
A. M.
Lovely meal at Wild Honey who deservedly received a michelin star just today. We've eaten at Anthony Demetre's Arbutus and the original Wild Honey in the past. His food is still delicious and the surroundings are up a notch. The custard tart is sublime.
A.
Absolutely wonderful evening. Special wedding anniversary meal for my wife and I - a rare treat we were really looking forward to. Food was outstanding - every bite of the tasting menu was a symphony of delight. Wine pairings were spot on in every course. The waiting staff were incredibly helpful, attentive, generous, and friendly. Congrats should be passed to them. Thank you for a truly special evening.

Had dinner here on a weekday and the restaurant was fairly full, would recommend reservations!
Enjoyed the food here - lovely sardine with beetroot salad, and the sea bream was also fresh and well executed. The highlight would have to be the honey ice cream where they carve out a small piece of honeycomb for you - the ice cream was a perfect balance of aromatic honey without being cloying and sweet. They also gave us a complimentary dessert to end of the meal, and we were so so full we could not finish it! Thank you for the great experience!

Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Wild Honey. Excellent food, beautiful decor, staff welcoming and attentive. The food was delicious with a perfect balance of seasoning.
A special thanks to Daniel for
•his personal service and professional/friendly nature
•his knowledge on wines and recommendations for our main course.
•his patience due to our inabilty to make a decision on the choice of wine!
• him knowing when asked the cut of lamb in my starter.
The only thing missing was me not taking home a recipe book. Buts that was absolutely fine too
C. S.
We booked a meal deal, three courses for £35 per person. The food was very good as was the service especially as I couldn't find a wine I liked but I found one in the end.
P. N.
Went for lunch with my daughter following a lovely massage at the Sofitel Hotel. The 3 course set lunch @£35 was quite nice though nothing amazing. Service and waiting staff were very pleasant What hit me was the mark up price for 2 coffees for £14 & a diet coke for £5.50!
J. B.
Excellent value for a delightful Sunday lunch. Interesting decor with an unusual clientele. Great for people watching. Main value to be found on the wine list where we had a lovely Burgundy for retail prices.
Careful with the online menus, didn't align to what we saw when we went, but still great.

Me & my friend visited the Wild Honey on Saturday, the 3rd of October. Even though we were not happy with the table selection at first, the ambiance, service, and food have made the night truly enjoyable. We had starters and mains paired with champagne. The food was of outstanding quality and taste. We ended the night in a good mood, and will definitely return back very soon. A cozy and sophisticated place to spend a quality Saturday evening.
I. S.
A first class venue and meal made in to a relaxing and repeatable experience with the humour and attention of Marina who look after us exceptionally well, thank you Marina.
Food was to a very high standard and first class quality, tasty and very well presented.
Location just clean, tidy with a very convivial atmosphere.
Hope to be back soon.
G. S.
Good food, extremely pricey
K. C.
Very classy and authetic french restaurant. Incredible vibe. Delicious food. Quite worth a visit if you want to dine in a beautiful and classical restaurant.
Quick lunch set was good even though the selection was quite limited. The staff are amazingly kind and helpful.
S.
We attended afternoon tea here with "free-flowing" champagne for a birthday celebration. We had a wonderful afternoon. Impeccable service, very generous with the champagne and the most delicious tea and cakes. Even better was the live jazz band that came to play - magical. Very reasonable price too for this part of London - highly recommended!

The food and drinks here are fine, and nothing more. It’s passable but I can get better cuisine many other places and spend considerably less money.
The flavor profiles were unbalanced and the preparation was amateurish. The beef tartare was completely overpowered by capers. The sea bream had a well crisped skin, but the fish itself was soggy and not well seasoned. The vegetables which accompanied the sea bream were very nice.
The duck ‘confit’ was dry and more reminiscent in texture and flavor to ‘crispy duck.’ It was a good meal, but not as one would expect for duck confit. My companions enjoyed the sausage that accompanied the duck, though I found the smoky flavor overbearing.
My husbands filet was fine. It was cooked to the doneness requested and seasoned acceptably, but it did not possess the sear one would hope for in a good quality restaurant and it was far from an amazing steak. It came without sides (a la carte) and therefore I would say it was at least £10 overpriced. The fries we had on the side were quite good.
The crazy tea cocktail was fine, but not particularly interesting beyond the color and the way in which it was served. One member of my group had an amaretto beverage, which I thought was nice, but it definitely advertised as sweet and the heavy handed addition of bitters cancelled out the sweeter quality, so you must like bitters. All the cocktails are obscenely overpriced.
The meal did end on a high note with a lovely honey ice cream macaroon.
The staff was sufficiently polite and attentive. The ambiance was very nice, and the seats comfortable.
Frankly, if I got this meal elsewhere and spent a third of the price I’d have no complaints but because my expectations were high, and the bill even higher, I left disappointed. I would likely not return to this restaurant, unless to only have the desert.
L. A.
Although we just had desserts, the ambience here is perfect. Great decor, a place for a special occasion, or even late night cocktails. Will definitely return for dinner. Lovely friendly service.
M. L.
Delicious food and friendly staff. Wish I could've taken a loaf of bread home. Time for meal to arrive was a bit slow however, which was not ideal for lunch time. I would return again though!
L. F.
The high ceiling in this restaurant allows a really nice atmosphere to dine either with friends or a date. Good options for food and drink on the menu. We had the 3 course for £30 plus wine meal. The food was lovely. I ordered the Grilled King Prawn as a starter and as much as it was a delight, I did find that as there only one prawn, the prawn looked rather lonely. I wouldn’t pay £12 (as shown on the menu) for it. Otherwise I had a lovely experience. I also liked that the waiters and waitresses are pro active in topping up our water glasses without us asking at all.
E. S.
Had the festive menu at The Balcone, beautiful presentation, great attention to detail. I enjoyed the bread with the 82% fat butter. The turkey was incredible, tender, juicy and full of flavour.... incredible what the chef could achieve with the turkey. Slow cook perhaps? I loved the chestnut croquette. Classic Christmas dish done in a modern way..... The food was fantastic and the service was friendly. The brunch menu also looked good so will come back.
R. R.
Definitely recommended. The decor was beautiful, the people working there were so friendly, the atmosphere was buzzy and the food was excellent. Really enjoyable evening out.
S. X.
I would say this is the best restaurant I’ve ever been to for the past 15 months !! As an Asian I find it hard for me to enjoy [western food], just not my taste. But what I had here really impressed me! Would highly recommend my friends! Price is reasonable and affordable. Besides, the service is another wow factor. A handsome staff even offered us a lovely desert for free. Great thank for The Balcon. I had a great time.
J. T.
Amazing food, great atmosphere.
Excellent customer service.
Attentive, friendly but also very professional personnel.
Had such a wonderful evening.
Highly recommended for all occasions big or small, casual or business. You won’t be disappointed.
Thank you Anthony and Wild honey team.
Hope to be back soon.
J. 8.
Absolute Heaven ! Wild Honey do so many great dishes I always leave wanting to have tried some others .... The perfect excuse to go back !
Lovely food , lovely service and wonderful setting
A. C.
Nice hotel restaurant, the food was excellent and the service was very attentive and reasonably priced for the location. However what would improve the place would be a greater range of wines (currently there is 1 bottle under £30, with most being over £100) and a bigger/more clear beer menu, there were no sizes on the menu, so I was shocked to be serviced a 330ml beer for £7. Would definitely go again though.
L. P.
It's a bit too much for what it is in reality . Food was ok for the offer (25£ for 3 courses), place was very nice and the staff. The (house) wine was, there's no other way to put it: terrible, for a place like this it should be much better, even if you don't go for the 990£ a bottle :).
But I believe it's a bit overstated, still a nice place to go and try.
J. K.
Amazing food experience that is even hard to describe. You should definitely check it by yourself.
R. A.
Had Afternoon tea. It is a bit modern.
The staff was excellent.
The champagne was very good.
The food was very good except for one sweet.
There was a slightly misunderstanding because they had only festive afternoon, that wasn’t at the webpage. However the manager handled it perfectly via email after.
For that reason I will possibly return.
B. M.
Delicious and wonderful food. The chef visited our table and the service was amazing. Julien, the general manager is lovely. Will be back
P. R.
The Balcon is a great French modern Brasserie in an excellent location in St. James.
Very friendly service and Alex our waiter gave good recommendations such as the Goats curd with figs and melon. Artic Char is a type of salmon was delicious but the best way to end was the chocolate mousse with popcorn and tangerine pieces!
Look forward to coming back soon as its
central is a few minutes to Trafalgar Sq and also Piccalilly Circus in the other direction.
S. U.
The Balcon is located near Trafalgar Square. Inside the building you enter in a rather classic setting with a beautyful display of wines. The servants are very polite and can speak multiple languages. They know the menu very well and will help with every question. The food was amazing, every dish was a delight to see and to eat. Will definetly visit again!
J. L.
Absolutely outstanding - I cannot fault one single thing about my time here.
The staff are incredible, the food is the most delicuous, the setting is beautiful.
I will 100% be coming back here.
D. M.
Had a lovely late lunch with my Wife. Chose from the day menu and found the food to be delicious and well presented. The restaurant has a lovely warm atmosphere and Staff were friendly and professional. All in all, a very satisfied customer, thanks.
R. S.
Food and service were both excellent! Not cheap. You pay for the quality and the experience.
D. S.
They surpass expectations. I can recommend the cold cuts with bred and other snacks. Reserved a table there for a business meeting.
c. l.
Well cooked meat. Generally good food. Starters and dessert were 4/5 and mains were 5/5.
N. S.
This lovely restaurant can only be described as exceptional, great ambience, extremely good food (if we discount a small technical mistake on the sardines preparation, they still had spines when they shouldn't) and great service.
M. R.
Good service & tasty food in a spelendid setting. Portions could have been a little larger.
O. S.
Went for breakfast - fairly traditional options available but missing that 'wow' factor you'd expect for this type of place. Service was average and the tables were camp. Generally ok overall but nothing to shout about.
C. R.
Superb venue with excellent food and fantastic service. The decor is stylish and the clientele polite. The ambience is spot on and I highly recommend Wild Honey to anyone looking for great dining and excellent quality in London. Definitely a winner!
F. l. c.
Always a delight
Excellent menu which is a combination of classics and seasonal choices. I love to return again and again because the meats are cooked to perfection and the service attentive. The wine selection is broad and tasteful. The pricing represents good value for money. When my guests ask me what to pick, I tend to recommend what is seasonal for the entrées because it's always a nice fresh surprise. As to mains, I don't know any other restaurants which consistently cooks their meats to this level of perfection. Always tender and with the juices in the plate.
One of my favorite restaurants in London.
a. b.
Went for drinks only. Staff attentive and very relaxed enjoyable environment to have drinks in.
w. f.
We were here, four of us, for a dinner on Christmas day. We needed to book in advance as almost nothing was open during Christmas. It was indeed a full house.
We opted for the a la carte over the Christmas menu. The sole meuniere was thick and juicy. I had roast (medium) lamb, matched with a Malbec.
Dessert was, of course, Cointreau crepe Suzett, accompanied by a Sauterne.
The only disconcordant bit was the background music- you wouldn't believe it, some kind of new wave pop. This took away one star.
F. F.
Excellent lunch menus at surprisingly reasonable prices!
Had the crispy pigs head, Daphne's Welsh lamb and the choux - all amazing, well presented
Staff is super friendly and provide a comfortable atmosphere
M. C.
A splendid dining experience. The food was great, the champagne absolutely delightful and the service attentive. Add to this the wonderful ambiance and it makes for a great choice for a meal. I strongly recommend the place.
J. O.
Very friendly and humorous staff and definitely a place where we would like to eat again.
M. L.
Great service. Had dinner there on the deal of 3 courses from festive menu for 39 pounds, they all taste very nice
K. K. L.
The food was good but the portions were bit small. Yes, forgot about it was a French restaurant.
l. c.
Lovely looking restaurant, but I felt staff and food were average. Possibly because we were a large group.
S. H.
Tasty food, lovely venue, chilled atmosphere. Service is friendly, but slow and not always responsive. Has local honey for dessert.
T. T.
The octopus ragu was delicious! Our waitress was lovely and very helpful with wine and dessert recommendations. Have been to this restaurant in its many incarnations over the years. The atmosphere was a bit lacking but the welcoming staff made the evening very pleasant.
A. H.
We recently had a date night there; everything was great from food to atmosphere and had pleasure to meet the chef.
I. J.
Very nice place, excellent service very generous portions of food for a French restaurant. Excellent menu set and good prices for a central London based posh restaurant.
I. D.
Great food and good atmosphere, tough service was a bit slow
r. h.
Rather a bland decor and shocking prices. £14 for a pint of IPA. Won't be visiting there again.
A. W.
Nice staff, fast serving, good beer and great pizza!
L. S.
We had the tasting menu... with 3 courses served with bread it was quite disappointing!!
P. A. Z. N.
Really good food and fantastic service staffs! We finish our lunch with a coffee and ..
A. B.
Great restaurant cooking some of the more rustic cuts. The pig's head terrine for instance is to die for. And the canelés at the end of the meal is a nice touch. They are better than the ones you get in Bordeaux!
K. T.
Beautiful French restaurant with very welcoming staff and tasty food.
D. S.
Lovely setting with a restaurant & bar but the food was a little underwhelming for the price
M. E.
A delightful, unpretentious & inviting restaurant in an opulent setting. Have to call out the service, the team were engaging, clearly happy to be there and unlike many restaurant staff, they did not sit on the fence with food and drink recommendations. The beef wasn’t the easiest to eat but the flavours were sublime. The Scottish hare was unbelievably smooth, a bit like foie gras! Recommend the pig’s head starter and the terrine was in a classic french, rich and buttery style. A great place and a really reasonable cost. Thank you for making our evening special on our anniversary!
N. T.
We were treated to an afternoon tea here for our wedding anniversary. Even though we were on a 'voucher' deal, we were treated very well. Really friendly, efficient staff. The whole experience was great, plus so much to eat from the sandwiches, cakes and puddings. A nice unrushed atmosphere. Although it didn't seem it, we were there for 2.5hrs! Perfect afternoon.
K. M.
Excellent service and decor. The food was usual (in a good way!) as it enabled me to try something new. The service was particularly spectacular as the staff were very attentive and friendly. It's a lovely atmosphere within the restaurant and highly recommended.
S. B.
Hmmm. Still thinking about this one.
As a stand alone experience this was an excellent meal. Excellent food, lovely surroundings, really professional and helpful staff and great value for what it is, a higher end restaurant.
The menu is relatively simple but better for being focused and of great quality. Some nice twists on a theme. Some interesting drinks, including a nice local gin selection.
The restaurant decor is modern and attractive and the location spot on in an impressive regal building.
Here is my dilemma. I loved the old wild honey. The small, intimate, cosy feeling restaurant a mile or so away. It felt like a little private treasure. The new wild honey feels larger, more modern and less, dare I say personal.
However in its own right it still deserves 5 stars. An excellent meal. I'm sure I'll grow to love it as much as I did the old place. I just need time to adjust.
T. B.
Good (but not amazing) food, friendly and attentive service, interesting cocktails
Z. D.
A lovely restaurant in central London, where a deal can usually be found with great food and a beautiful setting. The service is excellent, and even the full prices are quite reasonable. Whilst the decor is beautiful here, the atmosphere is a bit lacking, and the quality differs quite a bit between dishes. It's nice enough, but there are certainly better places to eat around town.
P. B.
An old favourite. I went there for a late lunch - it is good that is open all day. I had the set lunch which was good value and delicious, especially the shoulder of lamb. The deal included a glass of wine and extra glasses were available at discounted prices. The staff were charming and helpful. On hearing that the previous day had been my birthday, I was presented with a special dessert, complete with birthday candle. Le Balcon will now be closed until May for building works. I look forward to going back then.

Its taken me a while to get to Wild Honey, which has been on my to-eat list in London!
Entering, the decor is simply stunning - high ceilings, comfy sofas all the way around, sleek wooden tables, jaw dropping lighting. Definitely a place to bring someone to impress - whether a date or for a business meal.
Service was good - but a little hit and miss. We had to refill water cups a few times. Food service was disappointing. When the entrees came, all but one arrived, which came a few minutes later. Definitely not a polished service process.
We had the pre-theatre menu. One expects a quick service, because by the name, one has an appointment to make. However, our 3 course meal easily took 2 hours, as there was such a long wait between entrees and mains.
Food was also hit and miss, but generally of a high standard. Rabbit ragu and rigatoni was a little too salty. The slow cooked lamb main was good and a generous size. Their famous wild honey ice cream was novel and interesting - I won't give it away - but worth ordering, albeit the a la carte price at £11 is a little steep! Choux bun was perfectly made too. Dessert was definitely the best course out of the three.
This is a place you can spend the whole night - there's a really sexy, low-light cocktail bar at the back, and the dining room is perfect for long and private conversations.
I will be back - but probably only for the pre-theatre menu again, as mains between £25 and £35 are a tad on the high side given the quality of the food and the hit-and-miss service.
T. K. P.
I took my sister her for the first time for afternoon tea at the Rose lounge. We had the best time there. The waiter really took care of us, very friendly and professional. We felt really spoilt! The food was delish!! Their scones were perfect , never tasted anything like it. Thank you so much for the amazing service!
L. M.
Enjoyed this brasserie. Its in a grand setting, part of the hotel. I liked my fish dish. It's a large space so comparatively easy to get a table and near Charing Cross station. They have a set menu option. Recommended for eating with friends.
C. B.
Food was excellent; great selection of items all perfectly considered. Impressive wine list with some fantastic vintages. Service was superb; attentive and polite waiters. It is however quite pricey here, if you are on a budget maybe givd it a pass. If you aren't, 100% dine here.
M. H.
I am writing this as I feel it is very important to recognize how wonderful everybody was last Friday 23.02.18.
I came to the restaurant with my wife as friends of ours had brought us an afternoon tea as a wedding present. I have to say that the staff were all outstanding, especially the lady who served us. I would also like to say a massive thank you to the chef who was fantastic to take the time to do my husband some special food due to him being lactose intolerant and vegetarian.I have to say we don’t go out that often anymore due to this but although my husband has intolerance's and was very nervous he said that he really enjoyed it.
So thank you once again for making it so special.

5 stars for The Balcon from me, for superb food and superb customer service I had afternoon tea here and from the moment I arrived to the moment I left the customer service was warm, kind, attentive passionate. The afternoon tea was served and each cake type was explained. There were 4 different small cakes and 4 scones, served with clotted cream, delicious strawberry jam and lemon curd. Every mouthful was delicious, creating a smile and a mmmm sound from both my wife and myself. All in all, a really lovely afternoon at The Balcon, which I can of course highly recommend.
D. S.
Very beautiful and elegant French restaurant in Pall Mall. Went here for lunch and the whole restaurant was shrouded in light from the enormous windows.
Food was gorgeous and beautifully presented and the service was friendly yet very professional.
The bar area, where I waited for my guest, is very comfortable although a little dark/gloomy. But, of course, I’m rating the restaurant (not the bar) and our experience was faultless.
H. S.
Stunning dining room, quick friendly, informed service. Food was classic French fair - all cooked and presented well. The bread basket alone is divine! Wine is standard west end prices starting at about £25 for a decent house. Would most definitely dine here again, also a great place to wine and dine clients.
G. P.
What a great place. Lovely decor, great staff, wonderful food. They have specials in brackets on the menu which are definitely the way to go. We had the £28 three course with wine and coffee deal. We went along at 430pm and left around 745pm - very relaxed and fun
P. P.
Here for a free course menu. Food is very delicious! More than enough and the prosecco is good to. I took a lamb pie (more a Parmentier than a pie) but is was great! The service is top top too. We were welcome in French, very appreciate here. The place is very quiet even during the pick time.
G. B.
Fantastic service and decor, all of the food was exquisite, the Welsh lamb; very tender and flavourful, the Mackerel; delicate and cooked to perfection.
Will definitely return.
r. h.
Lovely setting, attentive service, good food. Once again, we left very happy :)
L. N.
We celebrated here our anniversary, it was the perfect place. We had a set of three course each, delicious. The place itself was extremely elegant and the staff very gentle, they even offered us an extra set of little cakes.
A. Y.
Went for free flowing champagne afternoon tea as a group of 3. You get 3 sandwiches each but only 1 sweet dessert to share between the table which seems unfair. Requesting for more food would require additional payment which seems unreasonable as it was around £50pp. Food was otherwise OK, not bad. Guess it's best to take advantage of the free flow champagne. Interior was nice.
P. L.
Went for an afternoon tea as a birthday treat. Nice ambiance, but the scones were overcooked, rock hard and crumbling . You needed the champagne to get the stuff off your teeth. Nice selection of cakes but too many meringue based. The tea pots were trendy but the tea was weak and got very cold quickly.
P. A.
An absolute gem of a restaurant, from the service to the wine pairing suggestions to the dishes! We've had 3 starters to share between the two of us including a sublime burrata and pigs head terrine. Then ordered a perfectly tender Welsh lamb and a cod, before finishing off with a sumptuous chocolate mousse mi-cuit.
The wine pairing recommendations from Remy throughout the dinner were on point and tried a wide range of wines from all over the world. I can't recommend this place enough, such knowledgeable and friendly staff running this place and a stunning decor is worth a 5* review.
Ps: try their signature cocktail "Wild Honey St. James", delicious !
A. A.
Nice venue and good friendly service. Wine was overpriced and first glass came with a side of cork which we had to send back. Food took a while to come out even when we were the only two people in the restaurant (6pm ish). Much better venues around the area for the same price.
T. W.
Had a great dinner here. Our French waiter's was great and was spot on for wine recommendations. He was the best. If you are in Mayfair area for London give this a try.
A. R.
Had a birthday dinner last night at Wild Honey which was excellent. The food was very good, especially the artichokes soup. The staff was very nice and attentive. Would definitely recommend!
M. C.
Wonderful. I am coeliac and this restaurant is so great at providing the best dishes. The ambiance is not as intimate as the Mayfair restaurant but the food is just as good. Wild Honey is back and I am so happy.
F. S.
Late weekend lunch with my friend. Attentive service. Not pushy. Asked to taste the wine before we'd decided which to have- no problem. Set menu- simple and delicious, packed with flavour.
S. S.
My sister and I had afternoon tea with champagne on Friday, most pleasant. The staff, venue, tea, ambiance, location, surroundings all 100% perfect, nothing was too much trouble. I would and will highly recommend it to friends.
C. S.
It was great to be back at Wild Honey last night. Quality of the food was ever excellent and accompanied by an excellent wine list. Staff helpful and friendly.
R. L.
Staff were great! Really friendly and attentive, even gave my kids a toy bus as a gift!
Food was superb and atmosphere was warm and relaxing.
A. C.
Sublime. Always exceeds expectations. Discovered they have a separate vegetarian menu which is a fantastic selection of starters and mains. The wild honey ice cream is an exquisite artisanal creation. A must try!
J. P.
I came here for afternoon tea with my wife and son. My wife was given this as a gift for her birthday so we were really looking forward to this. When we arrived we walked through the hotel and I thought wow the restaurant is going to be modern and welcoming. We were seated at one end of the restaurant where the families with children sat, the couples all sat behind us or at the opposite end.
The waiter came and introduced himself and then went off to get our food. I noticed the decor was a little dated, the furniture was covered in dust and hadn't been cleaned or dusted in a long time. Our drinks table was uneven but nothing was done to stabilise it, this table was used to place our iron tea pots on. The childrens tea was presented in a box which had a good selection of sandwiches, fruit and scones with jam. Our adult tea options were presented ok though not everything looked fresh, just the sandwiches looked it but didn't taste it. If you want to have a good experience then go and try the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at One Aldwych, you will notice the difference and it'll be a memorable one.

Delicious food and great price for the set lunch!
A. J.
The most amazing restaurant. We went there for my partners 50th. Lovely food. Good prices. When we finished our desert they brought cakes for her birthday free of charge. I lovely surprise. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
A. V.
Most stunning afternoon tea I have ever visited! So good I’ve come here 3 times! Great food, amazing service and a wonderful ambience. Couldn’t recommend more!
A. y.
They say you need to have tea in England to fully experience the English culture, no better place than to do it here.
This place is FANSAY!! They have generous portion of delicious cakes and scones served together with some savory sandwiches.
Nice deco, warm and friendly hosts. The scones, good lord was delicious. If you feel like spoiling yourself or a loved one on an nice sunny afternoon, I'd recommend this place.
The price tag on this one won't come cheap, but it's a place you could bring someone on a special occasion :)
M. C.
Beautiful restaurant.
We were lucky to visit before they closed on 24 February for major refurbishment and rebranding.
Don't know why, as it certainly was very nice .
Food was lovely, and service was spot on.
Prices reasonable.
R. E.
We had a set menu for private dining, the food was really nice, and we had Julian who was a very attentive waitor. I'm a vegetarian and there was a slip up in the kitchen with some anchovy crumbs, but otherwise a really lovely meal.
K. Y.
Went for high tea - great selection of tea available but food was so so. Personally, some sandwiches were tasteless and some cakes were too sweet. Table service also wasn't as good as expected, it was disappointing.
T. H.
Great food very friendly staff.. amazing hospitality..considering they closed due to covid . A REAL PICK ME UP LUNCH .
J. J.
Delicious food, well presented. A steal with London restaurant week set menu but good at any other time too
c. k.
Great breakfast, wonderful surroundings and so good to have a civilised place to have a chat.
B. L.
The cocktails we had were all Amazing and flabouyant creations. The food was also pretty great. It's an expensive place, but just about worth the outlay - the service was also impeccable.
G. F.
Very classy decor with a good range of customers, so don't feel like you will be underdressed to go there. The afternoon selection came in 2s apart from the patisserie selection, which was not a show stopper. The staff were attentive and really sweet when I told them boutique my Finace's birthday by giving him a complimentary patisserie selection. Expensive but worth the cost.
J. B.
Afternoon tea was exquisite. Brought a couple of visiting friends and we were all impressed. Champagne tea is the best. Gorgeous room, not too stuffy. Perfect and central.
I. A.
Great experience, the environment is fabulous for a dinner. Very cosy. Would have been 5 stars if food had halal option. Service, quality and food good.
A. R.
High class french style resturant with a fair choice of dishes on the menu. Service was good and polite. Dacor very nice and clean. This is fine dining. Prices are average to high but to be expected from a resturant of this standard.
s.
Beautiful interiors, great location. Menu is good and not too expensive considering the location. Staff and helpful and friendly. Highly recommended for brunch. The choice of bloody Mary variations is amazing!
K. W.
This restaurant was lovely. Perfect for an anniversary meal, we had a three course meal and it was stunning. Set menu a very good deal. Highly recommended!
B. B.
Everything about The Balcon is wonderful. Very professional staff who get full marks for all areas relating to customer service.
Relaxed atmosphere delicious food and beautiful surroundings guarantees a return visit in the near future.
P. N. (.
Hit and miss. Set lunch quite mundane so went ALa Carte. Starter of macaroni good depth of flavour. Main of pctopus...flabby not charrgrilled or spiced at all. Waiting staff not fluent what and how the menu works. Nice glass of Sth African Red however.
J. P.
Good service, beautiful restaurant and the food is delicious!
But too expensive for the wine.. As a French, I know the real price and when I saw more than £150 a bottle..
A. M.
we visited here in our last night in London and absolutely loved this restaurant. Our server, Remy, was fantastic, the food was wonderful, and the atmosphere lovely. Highly recommend.
D. A.
So I have been looking for kippered herrings for breakfast, what I always thought was an English staple. I went to many places including Vilandry, a nice, traditional English place across from the Sofitel on Regent Street. And I found what I was looking for at my own hotel and they were the best ever, as was the service. Funny story, my wife hates the smell of the kippers so when I have them she has to go in another room.
A. S.
Food, atmosphere and service was great. Really like the refurbishment of the restaurant and the menu is now very good - highly recommended a visit!
R. M. M.
Fabulous restaurant, with great service and superb food and atmosphere. A fine combination of good old-fashioned style and modern chic. Clearly not cheap, but I would say that it is good value.
E. N.
Service was superb. We was lucky enough to have a waiter that went out of his way to make our evening perfect (casper). Food was very nice and elegant, took me straight back to paris!
J. G.
Fantastic food and service. Staff are looked relaxed and seemed to be having fun, made a pleasant change. Pastry sharing plate was incredible!
Z. P.
The Balcon is in the heart of London and looks very fancy.
The price is however quite affordable if you go for the set menus and you get to try a variety of cool French food.
Give it a go.
N. S.
Very expensive, but probably worth it, as really, really nice and good service. Thank you to our friends treating us.
L. S.
I was entertained in a private room for Breakfast. The Orange Juice ,English Breakfast Tea , Scrambled Eggs and Toast were of the highest quality.
R. J.
Four of us had a Groupon deal which was for 3 courses, glass of champagne and coffee. Very good starters - foie gras especially good, and so was the pork cheek. The confit duck main course was let down by too much juice being poured onto it by the waitress. It ended up more like a stew with no crispness in the mange tout. The vegetarian option was poor, with the couscous being very dry and there being very little vegetable and fruit. Desserts were good apart from the pear dish which again had very little of the main event - the pear. So, a mixed bag.
B. L.
Bit of a hit and miss fine dining experience
J. A.
A wonderful restaurant for a special birthday. Food was tasty, staff were attentive in a relaxed setting.. we would recommend to anyone..
L.
Food was good and the staff were very accommodating. Perhaps tried a bit too hard though....ambiance was what made this 4 stars though - very pleasant atmosphere
C. M.
Wonderful experience and service. The staff were lovely and our requests were managed promptly and with a smile. Lovely place. Planning to go back again.
J. S.
Amazing high tea experience! I wish everyone a very happy french-edition as the staff are even greater! The varieties within the venue are unparalleled. - Native New Yorker
B. B.
This morning, we went here for a lazy late sunday breakfast with our 3month old baby. We went for their buffet and it was very tasty and we ate more than we had planned to ! Service was exceptional.
L. L.
Service and good was excellent. Staff were very friendly and they know their food very well. Selection of teas were great and all were very good. Environment was very good too.
D. H.
Good food, beautiful decor, but on this occasion very slow service. Two course lunch took 2.5 hours! Recommend if you are not in a rush.
F. A.
Excellent value lunch at wild honey... All the dishes were great. The honey icecream was lovely.... the honey comb addition was super sweet 🍯 the custard tart was silky smooth.
A. F.
Service was good but good wasn't great for the price. The chicken was undercooked. I wouldn't recommend for expensive dinner.
p. l.
Beautiful Dishes with original approaches.
An elegant Hotel
The dining room and bars layout are somewhat inhospitable. The excellent staff compensate .
A. J.
Fabulous dining experience. I can particularly recommend the steak tartar and the crepes, although everything I have tried there has tested delicious.
S. M.
French restaurant of the Sofitel. Good quality food but not very imaginative menu. Below what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Quite expensive for what it is. Decor is outdated.
S. O.
Wonderful restaurant. Incredible service and tasty food. Booked an offer via Open Table which was great value. Will definitely be back.
D. B.
Lovely waiter and waitress. Food good on set menu. Given selection of cakes with candle as my birthday .

D. S.
A lovely place to go to for some afternoon tea. Greeted by a decadent balcony, setting the tone for a wonderful time, you definitely want to try this place out.
T. G.
Great food, on a new site but the bar in the sofihotel is a good spot to meet beforehand.
More open (noisy) than previously.
G. V.
Went with a group from work. Chose a 3 course fixed price menu for £25. Very good quality food and excellent service.
M. A.
Good atmosphere although it is a Hotel restaurant. Staff very nice only issue were the rather small portions!

Pleasant surroundings and good service but food nothing to get excited about. Nothing particularly innovative or unexpected on show, although that's exactly what many will want.
D. J. M. L.
Cozy and elegant, the high level service and nice atmosphere make this place a gem, the pumpkin ravioli is super tasty and the beef looks extra juicy.
P. M.
What a treat - an upmarket joint that isn't up its own derrière. Remarkable service and reasonable (for central London) prices. I shall be back.
I. p.

It is not bad, let me begin with that, but VERY pricey and the amount of food is quite low. Not worth. You’re paying the fanciness.

Lovely afternoon brunch
p. C.
We had afternoon tea here today and found it to be just okay. The staff were polite but lacking personality. The afternoon tea was overpriced at £28 if you had one tiny glass of champagne they added a further £8.00 with no refill. When we arrived we were asked if we would like water and like idiots we said yes please. We were presented with three tiny glass and and the end was charged a massive £6.00 when tap water was being offered to other guest. The most annoying part of the tea was the massive gratitude 12% which was added to the bill without being asked. To be honest the 12% wasn't earnt in anyway. I will not be returning or recommending a friend. There are far better places out there to get a better afternoon tea than the Balcon I am afraid to say. From a very dissatisfied customer.
A. S.
Great service

Visited Wild Honey just after it was awarded a Michelin star. I can say, it's thoroughly well deserved.
H. B.
Pretty good. Service slightly slow.
S. C.
Met a friend for a quick drink before dinner. They don't take bookings for drinks so you can just walk in and sit at the bar or tables if available. I went Friday night at around 7pm and there was plenty of spaces available. The cocktails were plentiful and good. Can't comment on dinner but seems like a nice romantic venue, darkly lit and service was good.
S. C. W.
Decent food and great service from Marina!

Outdoor small area with sun loungers and fake grass. a little piece of heaven, they have a fun drinks card with little stories about each drink, it is expensive 16 pounds per drink. but after we had sat in the backing sun, a really sweet waiter came with water and snacks at their expense. Absolutely fantastic experience, brilliant drinks and service !!
