Reviews of Malta Inn Beefeater
C.
My wife has had issues with beefeaters in other parts of the country so was reluctant to eat here; but eat here, we did. This beefeater, despite being very short staffed, was clean and tidy, although the loos could have been better. The staff were presentable, and courteous. The food was good and arrived in reasonable time.
Unlike other chains, breakfast consists of a buffet including bread, pastries, cereals and fruit and a staff member will take your order for a full breakfast where you request how many you want of what, 2 eggs, 3 bacon, 2 sausage etc.
There is a good sized beer garden, some of which is under cover. There is also lots of seating along the canal.
S. P.
Food here was quite nice, drinks were far from pocket busting, i love the option of indoor and outdoor settings, not to mention its right near the lake which makes for a gorgeous lunch near sunset. The inside is also very spacious and filled with friendly staff. RECOMMEND TRYING!

Lovely visit on 18/3/22 for food & drink on a sunny afternoon. We originally sat outside by the river, however it was a bit more chilly then we thought. We headed inside to eat and our food was tasty. I had the Salmon, my husband the Steak & Ale Pie and my daughter enjoyed the stack burger. All cooked to perfection. Tried the spicy cola ( see pic )for the first time and this drink was so amazing! 😋🥃🥧🍔🍟
P. T.
Food was average, was a good lunch menu price. Chips choice of chunky or fries both were nice, the sandwich could be bigger but taste was ok
2nd visit had the burger big dipper was very good well cooked so changing score from 3 to 4
L. A.
As I walked in, I noticed that the waitress on the desk was chewing gum, which I found unprofessional. But besides that everything else was up to par. The food was good and the friendliest of our waitress was exceptional. Would go there again.
L. S.
Nice place to meet up with friends. Lovely setting right by the river and a great outdoor space too.
Food is okay and the lunchtime menu is very reasonable. I liked the fact that they didn't hustle you to get away from the table and we had a lovely long leisurely lunch with friends we hadn't seen in ages. Would recommend.
R. G.
Nice place for getting drinks/ hangout especially the outside garden next to the river. Staff are friendly but they seem very short staffed on a fairly moderate traffic day. Food is where I feel I was the most disappointed, garlic bread seemed chewy/ half cooked, small food portion for the price, barely any salad for a £12 salad. Best deal would be to get a steak and drink anything else will sadly leave you disappointed.
A. C.
Had a great meal, everything tasted great. It was busy at a peak time on a Sunday afternoon and the main course was out in good time. Dessert did take ages though which is a bit off considering most of it is just heated up with a scoop of ice cream.
H. B.
Went for a family meal, restaurant busy but cool. Had window seat to watch the boats. Food portions plentiful and good variety. Staff all very friendly from the girl on reception to the lovely lady who served our table. Will definitely go again.
V. S.
13/8/2022 When we arrived at the restaurant this evening we spotted a sign saying they were very short staffed and apologising for long waits for food. So expecting a long drawn out dinner we were pleasantly surprised when our order was taken really quickly and the food delivered within a really reasonable time. We could see the staff were busy but I honestly couldn't have faulted the service or the food, all 3 courses were delicious and we had no wait to be served between them. If we hadn't seen the sign we would never have known they weren't fully staffed. The staff that were working tonight were lovely and we left the restaurant happy.
J. P.
Lovely surroundings, delicious food, quick service considering how busy they were
S. W.
Lovely pub , the staff are amazing one of the staff was so nice and chatty but nice too and I didn't realize if I bought a lemonade I could refill it up as he told me and he was very patient with me as I forget things a lot and he just laughed but was kind .. staff are very helpful the place is spotless and big with plenty of seating and it's right by the river near many beautiful boats .. very happy with the desert I had .. would have taken a picture but I ate it because it was too good to wait 🤣👍 plenty of selections of drinks very happy customer would definitely come back. It's also wheelchair accessible outside which is great and the garden is lovely and plenty of seats too.
N. M.
It was busy but still had room to sit. food was nice and we didn't have to wait too long. A little pricey for the menu I feel but overall friendly and a nice place to be. Would recommend
B.
Really busy place on sunny days. Plenty of outside seating area with beautiful views of the river. Food was average to disappointing. Stated skinny fries but came with big fat chips and overall look of food on plate was dull. Tasted ok.
Service at the bar was good and friendly but slow as only two point of sales fir drinkers and food orders.
Outside tables were in serious need in clearing....
Will go back if I am in area as walk and views still make it worth it. Dog friendly in Outside area.
B. E. (.
A lovely restaurant with a great menu. Would happily return and recommend
J. S.
We found the restaurant quite by accident, having discovered Maidstone Toby closed for breakfast. The food was really good (though poached egg was served with a little too much water) & the service friendly and helpful. The window seats overlooking the river Medway on a sunny April morning made the whole experience a delight.
J. C.
Went here Sunday lunch time after walk along the river. Great location and loads of outside tables in the sun. No food being served in the bar area or outside and a fifteen minute queue for bar. Very busy outside on hot days.
P. N.
Fantastic location and lovely river views. Food and drinks are reasonably priced. Shame about the ferral kids throwing glasses in the river and food onto the moored boats. Manager was informed but no action taken :(
T. G.
A very enjoyable evening meal, good quality as always. Would have been 5 stars but because of lack of staff could not offer a cooked breakfast. But still recommended.
S. G.
This place has a great location, right on the river. The food was okay, but no more than average. The main problem was the slow service. When we arrived it was only a short queue for drinks but by the time we were ready for a second drink, the queue was several people long and moving very slowly. We gave up.
K. M.
My son had his 12th birthday meal here with his friends. We pre-booked a table online which was really easy to do. If parking, remember to log your reg number on the display when you walk in. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Everyone had a great time and the good was amazing
L. P.
Lovely setting, I ordered a curry and sat outside
A. A.
Nice place to eat but is busy on weekends!
S. H.
Very enjoyable meal, sitting by the river. Reasonable prices. Only downside was the lack of staff so not welcoming and queues at the bar. But got to make allowance for this widespread issue ATM.
K. M.
Haven't visited for a few years as the service at the bar was always very slow. Sadly this hasn't changed with customers having to queue for some time to order drinks and food at the bar. I had the salt and pepper squid which was ok but not the best I've ever had. It's a beautiful setting by the river and worth a visit but get there early and avoid busy times.
d.
Love the atmosphere and the view.
The staff are friendly, food is normally quick and reasonably priced, however I wish they had more options for food after 5 like their lunch menu like Curry, Chilli etc.
C. E.
Hosted our men's breakfast there. Great venue and food was good. Breakfast was a bit cold, but it's understandable because they wanted to bring all the food at the same time.
L. S.
Lovely family birthday meal, today we were served by Sam who remembered everything we ordered even drinks he was amazing thanks Sam! Great atmosphere and stunning spot along the riverbank
G. T.
There is always a queue out the door to get to the point where you are seated. It appears there is only one person qualified to see you to your table? Food is nice once you get to a table however.
J. R.
Lovely location, after a trip on the river, perfect! They had a sign saying they were short-staffed, so apologising if any delay, but our food came out promptly ☺️
J.
Well the biria moretti was really bad taste like the pipes was not clean.
Great location shame about the draft lager.
So morning has arrived
We've had breakfast
Great staff
Great spread
Well impressed.
Great job to all the morning staff 💪
M. S.
Food wasn't bad although maybe a little overpriced. Still holding up well after over 30years of service, if looking a little bedraggled here n there. 4 quid for a large lemonade seemed a bit steep though.
S. H.
An unexpected pleasure. I'll admit that I have found the Malta Inn to be quite awkward for breakfast in the past. This time around seemed more relaxed. The breakfast was on point, the staff very friendly and our window seat afforded us a view of the river Medway. One gripe ... buy a rolling toasting machine to replace the multi-slice toaster. It is soooo slow and creates a hell of a queue. Who would have thought that toast was so popular? With its additional outdoor bar and lots of outdoor seating, the Malta Inn is shaping up to be a very decent pick for both morning and evening.
A. N.
Great day sat by the river. Staff serving us were excellent, friendly and attentive. Covid rules mean you must check in at the door and be seated. Then it's ordering from a web menu from your phone.
The menu seems a little limited but this might be normal for Beefeater pubs or possibly due to covid they are running reduced menu if short on staff.
Location seems nice and very easy to get to just off the motorway. Inside the building has a quirky feel. I wonder what it's like on a Friday night.
Overall had a great lunch in the sunshine. Plenty of outdoor seating and with plenty of cover available if you need the shade.
P. R.
Excellent location but obviously gets really busy & quality of food may suffer slightly. We had excellent service though although you may have queuing at the bar if you don't have table service
E. T. (. F.
Tonight was not the best I've had here. They were short staffed in the kitchen, so I will cut them some slack as we had to wait ages, but, my ribs were over cooked and the coleslaw was not as good as usual, so I was disappointed.
D. B.
Really good Sunday Roast the earlier you get here the better it is ..would have got a 5 star rating but the vegetables? what's happened to the variety and the portion size has shrunk
K. F.
Was very crowded because it was a sunny day, however staff were pleasant and food was OK. The best part of this Beefeater is the venue, it just has beautiful views of the Lock. A nice place for a family meal. Chicken wing starter I wouldn't have again, but the seafood pasta was OK, as was the rib eye steak, cooked properly as well. The fried calamari was pretty good.
R. G.
Not the best but not the worst meal I have had. Availability for meal options were limited as were the deserts. Very short staffed, poor waitress did the best she could under the circumstances.
T. R.
Staff great, working flat out. Place shows signs of poor housekeeping.
Dirty greasy tables, and menus covered in stains. Food was good though.
T. C.
Excellent setting next to the River Medway, atmosphere was friendly, service was bang on and the food was top notch, definitely will be returning, and soon! It really was a nice surprise "find"! 👍👏👍👏😁😁
R. T.
Food not bad ,service a bit slow on the bar but overall a nice place to have a drink over looking the river on the spacious patio area
N. A. D.
This place is geographically well placed. Along the canal with great views. They have good choices on their menu in the main restaurant. And you need to book in advance to be able to dine inside. The garden menu is not bad. However, there is limited choices on their garden menu if you want to dine out in the sunshine.
P. T.
Make a reservation and eat upstairs in the restaurant if you're going here because you could be queuing for a long time to order your food in the bar. Good service and friendly staff in the restaurant.
D. T.
Food nice what was available , alot of dishes they hadn't got, staff very attentive the young girl was 5 star but other staff run ragged not enough staff, and the Malta itself needs a great overall, lovely location
z. n.
Staff are amazing ,ate outside lovely river views ,shame tables wasn't cleared n cleaned thou .toilets wasn't very pleasant either .food wasn't the best esp at the prices there charged.
T. P.
Scenery is beautiful, food is ok but is the general beef eater stuff. Staff are friendly so overall a 3-4 star
V. R.
Great beefeater and great location near maidstone river. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Food and drinks were both lovely. Thank you
T. H.
Lovely food had 3 course set menu .
Staff are friendly and helpful.
Great value .
Nice venue
V. M. (. C.
Ok lets start off with the excellent waiter who dealed with the whole outdoor seating alone and treated all customers great even under the pressure thanks you made the whole experience better food was delicious definitely satisfied
n. s.
Great walk around river had meal in the bar as restaurant full. Same menu great
F. M.
We've eaten here twice this week. Wednesday lunchtime for my husband's birthday and then Friday evening for a friend's get together. Both times the food was delicious and both times we were blessed with wonderful wait staff. Both Chloe on Wednesday and Stacey tonight we're brilliant! Amusing to talk to, chatty, helpful, just great. The only fault was with the corn on the cob which came with the chicken and ribs and it was cold. Otherwise a great meal, both times.
H. S.
Been in there a few times, food was nice, nice to have a drink along the river in the summer
D. M.
Since me and my team have been working from home we regularly meet for breakfast for some face to face time. Food and service is good and we never feel rushed
M.
Went for the lunch menu , food was good… not amazing, but good value for money
L. V. D. T.
Even with the lock down, it's still great. It was a hot and sunny day, but very little queueing and the indoor bar there was no queue. A lovely day out with a lovely riverside walk. I went midweek, I think it will be alot more busyat the weekend, especially if it's hot.
B. C.
It's in a lovely area, you have the river running alongside, a rather large building with plenty of seating for adults. I say adults as they seemed to be limited to about 4 baby seats... that's my positives here.
We arrived lunch time, expectadly busy, we got a table straight away, being a Sunday we wanted the roast but you can't order that online apparently... So we queued. We queued 20minutes to order, sat down and waited..... And waited.... And waited. 1 hour for 2 adult meals and a child meal to arrive. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. The drinks, we got ourselves in the long queue... But to top up your refillable drink, you'd have to wait in that long queue again.... We arrived 1pm, we left 3.45pm. family of 4. A 3 yo and 10mo.
I don't normally complain about wait times especially during a busy time, but this really got us good.
L. G.
The setting is fabulous but wow, was it busy inside! Great for The Malta, not so good for an anxiety sufferer. Couldn't sit outside on this particular day due to the weather being a tad rainy.
We were advised there could be up to an hour wait if we wanted table service upstairs, so we opted to order at the bar downstairs.
There was alot of confusion for the poor staff as some of the tables were lacking numbers so when food came out they weren't sure where to take it but they did their best, as quickly & with as little fuss as possible.
My mojito was a little odd tasting. Not the usual refreshing drink it tends to be, so not quite sure what it was made with(?).
The food however was really tasty though.
I had a vegetarian option & it was delicious! Lovely flavours.
Would happily eat here again, but maybe on a quieter day if possible. Or outside on a sunny day by the river 😊
D.
Went to The Malta today for breakfast - buffet cereals, fruits, fruit salad, yoghurt, pastries, toast, crumpets and pancakes plus as much juice, iced water, coffee or tea as you want. Full cooked breakfast, as much as you'd like, is also available - well cooked and hot. Service was good. Food was tasty. Really good price. Would go again.
B. B. (.
Not having been to a Beefeater for years I was pleasantly surprised the service was excellent not to pushy or to slow the meals all looked appetising & tasted delicious & yes I am going there again. The only fly in the ointment was the strength of the lemonade & limes but soon rectified without fuss. A really good time with friends & family.
B. N.
Went here with 2 of my daughters and 4 grandchildren and although food was lovely it wasn't hot when it arrived just warm but apart from that service was quick and staff friendly. Situated beside river, lovely. Yes, I would go again.
V. M.
I should have known better than to try this place again. Garlic mushroom coating was rock hard and not worth the calories. Followed by chicken breast salad. Salad was very unexciting and contained only lots of lettuce three small toms and croutons which were too hard to eat. Might have seen one piece of celery. Lacked colour overall. Won't be rushing back. Service was rather slow.
S. C.
Average at best. Went for a few beers with mates, got the burger and chips. Burger ok, minimal amount of chips. Wouldn't go out of my way to go back again. Staff couldn't fault them though. Very friendly.
J. M.
Food was very basic. Food was lacking in flavour. Drinks were flat and service was little slow. Used to love this place but not so much. Brilliant location though
B.
They were understaffed when we went there and ordering a drink takes ages. There is an app to order through, but it needs to be updated with the current menu.
C. H.
Lovely place except for the que to order food and drinks. Very long wait.Only one area to order so does get busy easily. Also female toilets ran out of toilet paper. Tables werent cleared so had to clear ourselves.
P. &. S. P.
Food was ok, but not great. We have three disabled members of the family. The disabled entrance from the carpark takes you across a very uneven paved area - not great for a wheelchair or anyone with mobility issues. The automatic door button was not functioning, so the heavy door had to be opened manually, a problem in a wheelchair. Once inside, it became apparent that the check in reception desk was up 5 or 6 steps, another problem in a wheelchair! It was unmanned in any case. Went to the bar to ask how to check-in to be told it was up the steps. I pointed to the wheelchair. The staff member wasn't especially helpful. I asked for a window seat to be told there weren't any. I replied that I'd just walked past one and pointed it out. I was simply told, " go and grab it then". Somebody came and cleared the table, but even after being wiped over, the table was still dirty and sticky. The carpets were dirty with food debris and the general feel was grimy.
Such a shame, this used to be a nice place, but we're not planning a return visit anytime soon.
S. E.
Great location but food was poor. Took 25 mins to order as the queue was very long, understand that they were very busy but table service would benefit this place so everyone can order quickly
P. L.
It was busy, but service staff good, not so keen on the microwave spegitti bolonaise that my daughter had or the peas. in general food was a little below par in some areas. Nice location.
C. m.
Food was nice ,but cold ,chips over done ,had to return custard just warm
N. R.
Food was good, great setting, but no cutlery available, tables not cleared and staff seemed super stretched, even though only outside was busy.
M.
Large pub and restaurant on the medway River, with plenty of parking. Disabled parking and access, dogs welcome outside on the bench style seating facing the river. Very busy most days due to its location, food ordered to table numbers at the bar, can be a long wait at peak times
C. F.
Alsrt from the average waiting for such a spectacular place, no matter where yoh sit, it will be worth the waiting with a drink before the meal. You may even forget youve ordered food due to the surroundings. 9/10
J. N.
Lovely food, good price, worth a visit
J. D.
Big standard Beefeater. You know what you're getting. Service was a bit slow but that probably depends on when you go. It's a nice place to sit and have a drink and something to eat.
S. Y.
We got married in Maidstone then came here with our guests for prosecco by the river.. was just perfect
J. S.
We all enjoyed our meal and dessert. The waitress was very good nothing was too much trouble for her.
C. F.
Riverside location, big indoor and plenty of outdoor space, staff friendly and helpful, we ate in the bar area and the food was OK, pub food just what you would expect.
D. B.
Staff very friendly. The food was not very hot but was tasty. Pleasant surroundings and was very relaxing
J. N.
Met up with friends early evening. Food was ok, could have had a more varied dessert Manu,. Great setting for nice weather
K. S.
Considering they were short staffed did very well waitress was excellent ,only down side was breaded mushrooms where cold but replaced them without any problem
J. O.
Lovely location and cocktails were nice too. Very friendly staff. Looking forward to revisiting soon .
C. B.
Nice food and friendly helpful staff. The loos could do with a bit of a makeover. Toilet roll holder was falling off the wall!
F. L.
Very busy some staff stressed some efficient. Food looked good but did not eat
S. ..
It was good for me. Sitting by the river Medway and watching the boats go by on a hot summers day with a nice cold beer in my hand.
S. S.
The best half of chicken so succulent I've had for a long time.
F. F.
Lovely food, good service ,reasonable price ,we had a beautiful lunch !!
J. D.
Beautiful scenery by the lock, where you can get a boat into Maidstone. Beefeater very nice, food and staff lovely
T. B.
Pleasant, by the river. Seemed very short staffed. Meal could have been warmer
S. B.
There were 9 of us who went for a family meal.
Most of had the ultimate carvery. It was fab! Plenty of meat and great choice of veg. We only had to ask for extra gravy!! The choice of desserts was good with only a few unavailable.
We weren't rushed and I can say we all enjoyed it 😊
G. W.
Food was good up to usually standard service a bit disjointed table had not been cleared and then we had t ask for menu's for meals tHen at the end of the meal they came to take the desert order but again we were not given a menu even after being asked when the table was cleared if we want one
T. H.
Ok... But wanted some breakfast on the lower floor.... But was asked to go up the stairs awkward as it meant physically carrying the pushchair with baby asleep.
G. R.
Great food .friendly staff .and a great walk along the river what more could you want as a family
C. P.
The portions of the meals were smaller than normal this time. We were still hungry even after the deserts. I did enjoy however the taste of the food, just wish the made the portion sizes the right size for adults.
R. B.
Excellent pub, nice river views, loads of parking
P. N.
Food was very nice. They did forget my chips but when reminded did bring them to me. Service apart from that was good. Price reasonable
P. B.
It's OK but like all franchise restaurants the service isn't consistent. Post pandemic they're struggling to keep up with demand.
Always annoying to see larger parties arrive and order their meals after you (several of them) but somehow get their food before you. Not the waiters fault and they were polite enough but still irritating.
We had to clear table of drinks from previous guest for ourselves and consequently the table wasn't wiped down.
Food was plentiful, tasty and cooked well.
Probably just need more staff
C. H. (.
Staff were very friendly, place was clean, atmosphere was great. Food left a little room for improvement. The lasagna was cheese heavy, chips were flavourless and cold and the chicken strips were over cooked.
L. A.
If you flexitarian/ Vegan they still have options this is a sloppy joe, or you can just eat the salad
c. b.
Very under staffed, cant get any sort of drink between 11-12. Nice views though
R. S.
Very enjoyable afternoon and nice meal out with family.
Service excellent - attentive but not pushy. Food good. Wine good. Good value. Great spot.
J. D.
Location by the river was beautiful. Friendly staff. Typical tasty Befeater food.
M. N.
Absolutely fantastic service (10 people) from a lovely waitress called Kirsty. Food was excellent. Definitely be visiting again.
j. p.
Nice clean pub restaurant on the River Medway.
We stopped there after work for quick pint , it took 20mins to be served as it was very busy still worth the wait , will go back soon .
L. B.
Really lovely, sat outside by the river (couldn't believe how busy it was for a Tues lunchtime) we were all there to raise a glass to a lovely lady as was unable to attend her funeral 🍷
G. C.
Dinner was slow considering it wasn't busy in there. Starters didn't show up and steak was cooked incorrectly. Staff were very polite and sorted problems quickly
L. C.
Lovely greeting when we arrived, sat in the bar area to eat, staff were quite slow, table number was incorrect so our food took longer to get to us, no cutlery available so had to wait for it
But a nice venue outside looks lovely and had a lovely walk next to the river.
Plenty of parking.
H. W.
Nice staff and good service. Good choice of food for a family and drinks and good are reasonable. Nice to be next to the river too.
A. G.
Situated by the Medway, a lovely place to spend a warm, summers afternoon. Food is the standard fayre for a Beefeater. Very child friendly.
M. B.
Nice to sit along the river for lunch. Went mid week a little busy but imagine it gets heaving at the weekend.
t. r.
It was OK. Food and service good but with only 2 if us dining, one main course was wrong and one dessert was wrong. Both were changed immediately, but 50% wrong.
A. B.
Sunday was the first time I have eaten at this restaurant and found it to be in a great setting by the river the food was good as was the service, this place is worth a visit.
C. R.
Tables by the windows overlooking the river were too close not allowing for any distance between diners. Food was alright. Nothing special and portions a little on the small size. Staff though were really attentive.
P. H.
Dropped in for midweek drinks and a quick bite, however, left before ordering the food. The views are beautiful here if you can get a table near the river.
The table was not cleared from the people before us, despite a server asking if they were our empties and us having a drink delivered.
Really poor selection of beer and when it arrived quite a large amount was on the tray, it was one of the flattest pints I have ever had.
We decided not to stay for a light bite.
Would recommend for the views but was unimpressed with service and drinks selection.
c.
Great location, food was ok if a bit expensive, what I didn't like was the canteen style queue and collect your own cutlery etc, slow service down to how it operates rather than staff.
H. S.
Great food, nice staff but they push you to have the most expensive dish, great view, good prices
J. S.
Good food excellent service good value for money. Lovely position by the river Medway
V. S.
Had a lovely meal with my family will most certainly go back soon, there was 6 of us and we all had something different and we all cleared our plates
J. G.
went for a drink on my lunch break and it it just so beautiful! just gutted i couldn't get a seat near the river.
I. P.
Lovely gastro pub, staff are great & very helpful. Drinks are good and so is the portions of food served.
The meal deal (organised and paid for at the Premier Inn hotel reception) is best!!! A starter/main meal OR a main meal/desert is exceptional value for the food + with the added bonus of breakfast (Continental or fried/cooked unlimited) + unlimited tea, coffee & fruit juice and all the price of £24.99 per person. WELL WORTH the experience.
Out the front is the car park and the entrance to Premier Inn Hotel.
Round to the side there is a beer garden nicely laid out including seating and a small garden shed which is used to serve beer from in summertime.
Round the back, is another seating area where people can smoke and look at the river and house boats etc moored on the quay.
Overall outlook on this gastro pub??
Well worth a visit at any time of the year!!!
Will go here again. ❤ it.

We sat outside. It was a great experience. You could order and pay for your food using an app. Excellent service. The food was very tasty. The staff didn't hassle you at all to leave. I would definitely go again. This is a good example of a business who have adjusted to a difficult situation and made it work.
B. J.
Nice atmosphere, staff were very helpful. We were a party of 12 and they coped brilliantly. Would recommend
T. T.
What you'd expect from a Beefeater. Good food, good friendly service and the day time menu deals are very well priced 😄
J. A.
Long queue at the counter. Now parking is regulated by Euro car Park, do not forget to add you car plate no into a touch screen close to the bar counter or at welcome desk if you come from please parking face door.
J. J.
Really family friendly especially seating us in an ideal position as we had a 5month baby with us .The quality of the food was very good but some of the burgers and chips we a little cool. The service fromthe girls was very good as it has been the last few visits to the Malta.
E. G.
I came here yesterday with family and my three week old baby. Shortly after we ordered my baby needed feeding so I went back to my car to sit in the cool ac and fed him which took around 45 mins. When I returned to the table, without me even speaking to him, the waiter had offered to replace my meal free of charge as it had been sat on the table in the heat. Just wanted to say thank you so much as I really appreciated the kind gesture! I had ordered a chicken salad just in case I did have to go and feed him so it’s not even as if it was hot food that had gone cold and yet you replaced it anyway. Really good service thank you again :)
J. S.
We only went for a drink & Sat outside next to the river. It was lovely looking at the boats.
m. k.
Enjoyed a good meal. Good burger. First time with sweet potatoe fries - also a pleasant experience (thanks joseph the waiter for the encouragement).
Been again recently. Still enjoying the house stack. Service with a smile despite being understaffed (thanks megan).
W. W.
Excellent service brilliant food and a very warm welcome make you feel right at home
R. U.
Very beautiful place, especially in the summer sling the river. However, the service has deteriorated and so has the decor inside.
j. v.
Perfect location, good food & good, friendly service. Lovely walk along the river bank after dinner.
K. S.
The outside wants tidying up a lot of rubbish about
All so check what you get on your plate is what is on the menu xx
R. B.
I have eaten at this place on several occasions, breakfast and dinner. The food was good and the setting is beautiful right by the river. The wait for food can sometimes take a while if they're busy but I suppose that's inevitable. The breakfast staff didn't seem to have much time for us even though there were only a few tables taken but on the whole not bad.
t. c.
Nice place quieter busy. Waitress & water service excellent, wait for food wasn't too bad. 3 of us dining I had the Tuna steak & chunky chips my 2 friends had roast dinners. Sadly no chicken roast dinners bit disappointing as it was a Sunday 1pm. They had Roast beef with 1 ouece of brocoli & few strands of carrots:-( I had Tuna & chips the Tuna was over cooked or had been left standing the out sides of my Tuna were chewy. None of our dinners were hot. Disappointed on this occasion usual a good meal out. Desserts were fine & drinks too.

Usually the Malta is a good place to eat. Always clean and staff helpful. This was no exception this time except there were quite a few items off the menu. This was not this particular resturants fault as it seems to be across the board at all Beefeaters. My only other complaint was the food was on the luke warm side, with the fries being completely cold, even after they bought me another portion.
G. A.
Friendly, helpful staff. My son rated the ribs 10/10. I've been for breakfast and lunch and enjoyed the meals. Portion sizes are excellent and the taste is delicious. Unfortunately we weren't able to sit outside by the river as it already full.
B. R.
Its best feature is its location. Its a nice spot but I cant get excited about the place as it lacks soul.
A. J.
Food was nice, we had meet free chilli and was as good as meat version. The sausage on the mixed grill was burned to a crisp but everything was good.
The only downside I found with the restaurant was no soap in the toilet, which is a pretty big mistake in my opinion. Luckily there was hand sanitizer outside.
L. G.
Lovely place bit very busy , couldn't get to the bar but was easter Fri so expected it .
D. P.
Love this place ....staff are nice and helpful and good food.
S. M.
We went here with 4 adults and 2 young kids 2&7. The staff were very good with the kids and had a high chair waiting.
The service was good for a pub restaurant and the food was usual steak house fare. We all enjoyed our food and would use it again.
A. G. t. G.
Food was average not impressed but I could say good for the money. Waiting time was far too long for our order.
T. L.
The service was very good and also we was well looked after too. The food was amazing and good for its money too. Thank you once again for your service you did great. 😊😊
P. M.
Great location on the river. Lots of outside seating and inside. Although the upstairs does get booked up quite quickly. Friendly staff but the bar can get busy. Nice steak meal and lagers.
.
J. H.
Gone downhill. First we were given someone else's meal. Those meals were then given straight to the correct customers, instead of being thrown away and replaced.
Fish was awful, hardly any fish and the batter was inedible. I did complain and, by the waitresses reaction, I was not the first to complain. No recompense. It will be a long time before I go there again
M. “. B.
Poor service and food and in bad need of decorating, short of staff
E. S.
Loved it, really nice staff. Food was excellent and the lunch menu made it super affordable. I had a medium rare serloin stake and let me say, it looked as good as it tasted. Wished I had taken a photo.
T. V.
Food was delicious and the waitress was very kind and helpful
A. D.
Nice setting on the river but food was dry and over cooked
J. P.
Unfortunately I can only give a 3 star for our visit . We ordered Roast dinners but unfortunately the lamb was very fatty and the plates were cold so the food got cold very quickly the beef was lovely so were the potatoes and veg, if only the plates were hot we would have really enjoyed it.I also ordered strawberries and ice cream which consisted of 1 or 2 strawberries cut up into very small pieces to make it look more and a very tastless cheap icecream served with it so was disappointed with that the others puddings were very nice so I wished I had ordered a different sweet. The staff were very friendly and attentive .
R.
Toilets either out of order or very unpleasant. Staff seemed under pressure. Not a great selection of beers.
S. D.
Only had drinks but friendly barman.
Sat by river in sun
M. B.
Lovely lunch with family. Haven't been here for ages, was pleasantly surprised, great tasty food
L. S.
OK so I'm sure it could have reached to 5 stars but here me out. So went for early breakfast. Its all you can eat due to covid it's table service. Service was slow. Exceptionally slow. There were two members of staff for the whole breakfast service. I managed 1 breakfast and one coffee. Then it was hard to get the attention of the staff, thwy were rushed off their feet. Had to ask for another drink but had been there at least an hour. Maybe 2. The food was nice, came out quick once ordered. There was no opportunity to order more for the all you can eat. And there was no drinks menu, so you don't know what you can have. Might be all due to covid. I wouldn't hurry back for breakfast.
W. N.
Beautiful setting, food good, staffing level too low, toilets vile!
A. L.
Staff were great, funny and engaging.
Food was pretty good too.
Atmosphere and general layout was also really nice.
M. G.
Amazing food and wonderful staff, very picturesque
T. W.
Friendly waitress and very nice meal. Restaurant itself feels tired and in need of renovation. Ladies toilets blocked so had to take daughters into gent's.
S. F.
It was ok, food was edible but not the same as pre covid when you could pick your items from those displayed.
M. D.
Enjoyed our meals and the staff were very friendly.
p. k.
Lovely food, staff and location! Highly recommend
B. J.
stuff were a little rushed off there feet but im not surprised as the food was amazing
F. G.
Lunch today was really lovely at The Malta Inn. My steak was cooked to perfection and the triple fried chips were delicious. Dilyana our waitress was really helpful and so friendly even though see was run off her feet. Social distancing was adhered to, making us feel safe.
S. C.
Beautiful food and professional staff. Thank you
D. D.
Nice food, lovely location, can't complain
J. N.
We go to the Malta too often. App works well and drinks delivery is efficient enough.
During the exit from Covid they were super hot on rules and hygiene. So much so, you couldn’t even sit down until one of their staff stood over you while you scanned in. Fair enough, we’re all trying to protect everyone.
Fast forward a couple of months and they couldn’t give a flying one. Loads of hand san stations around, none of them work. No soap in the gents. Not good enough.
B. W.
Food and drink delivered to your table via the website, nice and easy. Nice big pub for a meal or just sit outside by the river with a beer. Does get busy which is a good sign.
f. i.
Lovely pub by the river, nice food.
R. L.
After a lovey walk along the Riverside and Allington Lock, the Malta Inn is great for drinks, snacks, meals and in the Summer barbecues are great for eating out on the benches on the river front.
P. M.
Had a great birthday meal here. Food really good and service from April, I think, was great. Thank you
L. C.
Great to be able to pop in for a quick drink with some nibbles at the end of the day. Service was very good scan the NHS app for entry order at the table. No problem. Noticed lovely clean glasses and plates as well.
K. N.
Good food, and reasonable choice, could have more choice in drink and menu but could be down to current situation. Will visit again when things have improved to see if that is the case. Pleasant atmosphere, would have loved to sit outside but the weather was against us. Social distancing measure were great, well thought out and enforced.
j. c.
Its a lovely place to eat but very very expensive for what you get on the plate
D. J.
Food was nice and Gemma our waitress was excellent
D. T.
Friendly place very well organised and the covid restrictions followed to the tee, staff were very polite and explained all the procedures clearly. Drinks and and food were served quickly and probably with a smile if I could see under their masks. Would have been 5 stars but it was cold outside (roll on summer).
Give it a try I sure you won't be disappointed.
M. S.
It’s hilarious reading some of the reviews on here, some of the complaints are just so petty. People really need to get a life . We had a wonderful drink and meal in a lovely location. I’ve been using this restaurant for 30 years and will continue to do so for another 30.
K. W.
On arrival I was asked what drink I'd like, a drink that never showed up. It was at this point I should have guessed how things were going to be...
We ordered our food and soon enough starters arrived, I had the calamari which were more like bland crispy bits of batter, I struggled to find any calamari.
Next up were the main meals. Well one meal had cold chips which had to be replaced with a second meal (the mixed grill) having to be replaced entirely because 90% of the food was cold. My main meal, the surf n turf combo, was waaaay overpriced with appearance not being a strong point - don't do it!
Finally it was time to leave, the staff had been nice and were very apologetic about the food and knocked some off of the bill - staff 8/10.
Disappointing overall as this place used to be amazing!
t. p.
Had breakfast here today was served by polite very helpful staff we had wheelchair and buggy plus sight impaired adult .we was seated down stairs with no problem Took our drinks n food order drinks came. Then food lovely hot. Bread request instead of toast was honored. Our drinks were refilled by staff asking us was excellent service can't remember ladies name was at 930amx
j. b.
Great venue let down by regular queues for drinks .
c. h.
Perfect location
Seemed incredibly short staffed- as are most places at the moment
A. W.
The vegetarian burger was amazing!! Best I've had well done beefeater..
I will be returning
S. W.
The restaurant was very clean and plenty of room between tables. The staff were welcoming and friendly.
The service at the table was great, no pushy sales to order side dishes.
The food itself 2 steaks and fish and chips, was piping hot, the steak tender and flavoursome, the fish was lovely, not dripping in oil and it was huge.
Highly recommended for intament or family meals
J. R.
Would give it 3.5 stars if I could, the food tasted great, and the whole pub looked visually amazing. The lay out was lovely and really looked modern. We may of just came at a busy period but drinks and food both took awhile to get to our table. Had to keep asking the waiting staff where our items where. At the end of the meal our bill had about five other food and drink items on it that we didnt order. The staff apologized and fixed it straight away. So was happy with that. All in all, the staff are great the food is great. Though maybe slightly over priced.
M.
The location is great, right on the river so it is an excellent place to come to in the summer. The breakfast is always good, we have been here a few times. The beefeater menu is good. The inside of the looks a bit tired and sometimes feels like it could do with a bit of a clean - carpets ect
s. j.
Staff friendly.food lovely,a bit pricey.breakfast cold ,sausage and bacon undercooked .they need to have plate warmers this needs to be addressed ,will not have breakfast until sorted out
R. B.
The grounds, with it being next to the canal are stunning. Unfortunately the food and drinks are both very poor. Both of us couldn’t finish our food, it’s just not worth it. Honestly can say Wetherspoons are so much better and half the price.
It’s looks very shabby inside, however the waiters are kind and attentive.
Recommend for drinks on the terrace only
J. X.
We had 14 family members for a special dinner at the Malta Inn. The staff did everything they could in the run up to the event (decorate the tables and help with plans) and on the day were incredibly attentive, the food was great and completed our celebrations. Very impressed with service considering it was also a Friday night. So glad we chose it for our party. They literally could not have done more. And of course the location is beautiful. Very happy, would most certainly recommend.
E. H.
Do you the gm, observe the ten hour rule between shifts with your staff. The same lady was on on Friday night close and again in the morning shift Saturday. Do you work those hours. Your staff on were brilliant. We're is the GM.
G. g. T.
Lovely food, and well looked after thank you
J. E.
Well organised for seating under Covid restrictions, super service, food excellent value and very tasty. We had squid , loaded potato skins, chicken wings, turf and surf on brucheta, thoroughly enjoyed. Tables were cleared, cleaned efficiently, plus the position by the river, superb.
d. p.
Booked a table at The Malta on Sunday 13th October at 3.45pm for my mum's birthday celebration. We were a party of 10. Requested a circular table, as my elderly father is deaf and it just makes it easier for him. Table was perfectly situated in a quiet area, at far end of restaurant, away from others, which was ideal. We were able to quickly display some birthday banners before my mum & dad arrived. Our waitress, (smiley, dark hair in ponytail) was so lovely. She was attentive, cheerful and extremely helpful. Unfortunately, there were no roast meals left so we all made alternative selections and enjoyed our choices. We were not rushed in any way. A most enjoyable visit and a special thank you to the great service from the young waitress (sorry, I didn't note her name but hopefully you will know who she is to pass on our review). So pleased we chose The Malta and will definitely be back.
E. H.
Used for dinner and then breakfast the following morning as staying at Premier Inn. Staff were amazing from the first contact outside throughout. They were friendly and knowledgeable and never seemed to stop running around after their customers. We have 2 people with different food allergies and the allergen info was incredible.
C. F.
Went here for the first time on a Sunday. We didn't try the roast as it finishes at 6 so I had the vegan burger instead. The location was amazing and we sat inside looking out at the canal. My only criticism would be the side salad I received was a lot smaller than what I have at other beefeaters. Other than that the food was lovely and I would recommend it to my family, mainly for the location.
K. T.
Nice location by the river but service is always a bit slow
R. M.
Had a great meal and your staff superb. The waiter with the plaited ponytail, so efficient and polite. Your set up is brilliant and I applaud you for your response to paying your staff. That means so much to us and we will eat at yours so much more.
Thank you Beefeater.
J. S.
Food was lovely but the Bar service was extremely slow
A. M.
Busy.. But it is a Bank Holiday. Great location on the River
J. S.
Really lovely meal. Friends had mushroom starter; we all had ribs and chicken and some had profiteroles. Food well cooked and presented. Good Covid-19 control. Lots of parking. Bill very reasonable thanks to discounts available.
M. L.
Only go here for breakfast, absolutely fantastic and the gentleman that is here as the waiter is pure gold. If there were only more like him, friendly, welcoming and attentive, a true asset to this company. I hope he gets paid well as he is well worth it and this is the main reason for me keep returning. The food is lovely and great value especially for kids to eat for free. Definitely recommend for breakfast
B. H.
Nice location by the river, but just a standard Beefeater Restaurant food, but it was great food. The only problem though, was at both times we visited there was not enough waiter staff to cope with the number of covers.
A. S.
Still a nice place to go with the family. The food is good but a little expensive.
D. W.
Had a really nice evening here last night. Considering the covid issues, they have done every they can to keep everyone socially distant. The food here was excellent and the service given was brilliant. Would really recommend going here to anyone. During the summer months it's a brilliant place located right on Alllington Locks in a beautiful setting. One of my favourite places to eat.
F. M.
Great location on the water side. Ate at the bar where you unfortunately have to queue up and order your food, pay for it and then sit down wherever you like and the food is brought to you. Food is reasonable in both quality and price. Nothing spectacular but satisfying. I had gammon and chips and it was real ham and not plastic! They have a proper sit down waiter service restaurant upstairs which I haven't tried. Overall a good spot for family and casual dining with spectacular views off the water.
n. t.
Unbelievably quick service, the chips were at the table before I paid for the drinks. Nice view of the river.
G. N.
Beautiful views of the river with indoor and outdoor seating. The decor on the inside really is amazing. The food is typical beefeater food .. Good value for money.
A. C.
Nice location next to the river.
Air con was very welcomed as it was the hottest day of the year at that point (end of June).
Service was good, our waitress was friendly and attentive.
Food was good too. Although the kids 'premium' puddings were small.
One had a small pancake cut into quarters. The other chose mini doughnuts. They were to be kindly shared out. Until he only got three, and the decision was made to eat all of them!
There are boat trip available from just outside on the river bank that might be worth a look.
C. H.
Lovely place with a great layout. In the summer, drinks by the river are great. Be warned though it gets very busy so book up. Generally great service and good food. Saturday nights however are hellish, with a number of experiences showing worse food, very long service waiting and stressed staff. That aside, it's a nice venue.
S. A.
A very nice place to eat with very helpful staff. The only criticism I have is the food coming out at different times. I ordered the vegan burger and this came out first and was only really warm, not hot as I like to get my food, which would indicate to me that it had been sitting on the pass for at least 10 minutes, the rest of the meals came out around 5 minutes later and were piping hot. So somebody's timing was out. Apart from that quite a nice restaurant and would go again.
A. B.
Nice place to meet friends menu was good but felt it lacked a small lunch time menu.
A. D.
Nice, well positioned for stop over at premier inn.
N. B.
Good serve lovely breakfast..
D. G.
Reasonable service and OK food. Nothing special. I'd like to say it was cheap and cheerful but it was neither.
D. L.
The Best restraunt overlooking the River Medway.
Whilst enjoying a fillet steak, watching wildlife and boats going by the window.
Great walks by the river.
Hotel next door to stay.
Great service, great location.
Great food .
Perfect
g. m.
A great place to visit after a nice walk along the river Medway from Maidstone - as I did with my brother on 7/9/21. Multiple ways to get here thanks to road/river or footpaths leading here, just use Google maps for assistance. The Malta Inn itself is friendly and welcoming with great food and drink and the added bonus of sharing a carpark with a great value hotel. Weather it's a start of a weekend get-together with your mates before heading into town or a more personal one on one with a lover this place is akin to a Swiss army knife of public houses ! 😁👍🏼
G. J.
Very relaxing by the canal friendly bar staff
J. E.
The 4 of us had a quiet table upstairs into other area. Waitress service was great friendly. Food was fantastic had the fillet steak with duck pate and the trimmings yum yum, will be coming back.
H. M.
Location is great, right by one of the nicest stretches of the Medway. Quiet, tranquil, and peaceful, love to spend an hour or three here, taking a walk along the toe path, taking in the scenery, boats, and chatting to the people who live on them. Then back to the Malta Inn for a pint and bite to eat. The Malta Inn is quite a nice place to go for an hour or so, and has lots of outdoor seating which is great during warmer months. I would say its on a par with Wetherspoons for choices of drinks, and quality of food, but more expensive. And is family friendly too, so occasionally, you may have to put up with screaming kids etc.
Staff are friendly enough, but sometimes can take a while to clean tables during busier periods, and it does get busy here, especially during summer.
If I had to rate each aspect separately, I would rate as follows:
Location 5/5
Food 3/5
Drinks 4/5
Cleanliness 3/5
Value 3/5
Hospitality 4/5
With an overall rating of 4/5.
D. F.
Haven't been for ages and I won't be rushing back! Food took ages to arrive (lunch and not that busy) and when it did it was very underwhelming. Undercooked and insipid looking chips, no bacon in my chicken and bacon burger, the lobster in the lobster burger looked like a bit of crackling and they'd run out of several puddings too! It was 1.30pm....
3 soft drinks and 3 average lunches for £55 was pretty darn steep too! Not an experience we will be repeating any time soon.
H. D.
Very nice clean and covid compliant reasurant. Food was very well cooked and great VFM. Was served by Jonathan who could not have been more helpful had a great chat about his tattoos 👌. Then had a nice walk along the river to the lock. I would highly recomend this reasurant. Again thanks Jonathan.
J. T.
Nice place. High ceiling, good location, though parking was crowded as it was a hot summers day and plenty of people wanted to have a drink by the river.
The family sat inside and had a meal which we all enjoyed. Our server took our drinks order quickly, the food order went promptly and the food turned up as expected and was quite tasty. I had vegetable linguine with salmon on top, very nice. Had to chase once for some refills but nothing outrageous in that.
Has a nice atmosphere and will be coming back.
J. W.
Visited on a (quiet) Monday evening, whilst staying at adjacent (very nice) Premier Inn. After ordering at the bar and waiting for 50 mins, I eventually asked what had happened to my food order. Apparently, it had got 'lost'. This wasn't the end of it, but I couldn't be bothered then to make a big fuss and I won't now. I just ended up going to bed and deciding to have breakfast the following morning elsewhere. Food was actually great, but there is some work to do on customer service in bar area..
T. O.
Great food, we booked online so walked straight in as expected. Lovely views along the river and beer garden.
A. T.
I've eaten here on a number of occasions and have always found the food good, and the staff polite and helpful. Wide range of options including steaks and burgers as well as lighter options, and a good selection of drinks. Sometimes certain menu items aren't available and the food can take quite a while to arrive at very busy times, but overall I've found the service good. Plenty of free parking available on site, make sure to book in your vehicle at the check in desk on arrival. After eating I often take a stroll by the waterside as it's a pleasant spot.
T. C.
Room for improvement. Serving a short in water stained half pint glass, is not a good start. The bar staff tried to be helpful. Apparently they don't serve the sharing platters unless they're busy (why have them on the menu, then?) Although she did make an exception for us which earned one of these stars on its own. Food was nice and arrived on clean plates and was hot. Shame one had to walk to the bar order and pay, which stopped us ordering desserts. Chips were exceptional. Disabled door not working for our wheelchair user. Decor not as individual as it used to be with quaint boat booths, it's all uniformed as these chains are these days. Yes, would go back but not if I was entertaining to impress business personnel.
A. P.
Had a really nice Full English Breakfast here. At £8.99 i felt it was good value for money considering there was unlimited Coffee and continental style breakfast included. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was cooked fresh to order. The seating area was very clean and tidy. Overall a very pleasent visit.
C. J.
Myself and my partner booked a table for 5 o'clock and we arrived about an hour early to get a couple of drinks and sit by the river in the glorious sunshine, we were shown to our table by the Maitre d and shown how to use the ordering system which I'm fairly familiar with QR scanning but the internet connectivity at our table was so poor we nearly gave up and went home, after connecting to the on site wifi we were able to order some drinks and our thirsts were quenched, in the restaurant we were greeted by 2 front of house staff Gemma and Joseph and I must say we were both really impressed by their enthusiasm and professionalism they are both credits to the Malta Inn, it makes a change to speak to 1 person with such a positive working attitude let alone 2 people, the food was tasty, freshly cooked and hot, so we'll be back for more. I would have given 5 stars but for the frustration of trying to order drinks from the QR site, Thanks again from Chris & Paula
A. F.
Great place right on the river. Great service.
S. B.
Amazingly had none alchohol cider flavored
A. B.
Great value and good food with the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. Downsides are Slower service than usual and reduced menu otherwise worth a trip. PS don't forget to tell the staff your car reg otherwise you could get a fine.
M. R.
Lots of niggley issues but they wouldn't stop me returning. I didn't complain but I'd point them out if they occurred again.
S. T.
The atmosphere in here was really good, vibrant and busy on a Friday in the sun. The food however let down the Malta Inn. Overpriced and bad quality is what we experienced on our visit, the chicken wings were rather fatty and lacked much flavour, the duck wings on the other hand were really good! Out of the 6 mains we had, 3 got sent back because they were burnt and inedible - on a different day this would be a different review, it was just the quality of cooking that was an issue to be honest.
R. C.
Beefeater in lovely location by river. My 2 year old loved the boats and sluice gates. We went on a Saturday at around 1pm and it was extremely busy, felt quite hectic and a bit dirty, tons of kids. Long wait at bar to order food too. That said, food was as you'd expect, service was still fast, and we enjoyed it.
R. E.
Lovely riverside location. Lunchtime seemed short on staff and queues to order and relatively long wait for the food. Seemed reluctant to give out the special reduced price day time saver menu. However food was good and the staff working very pleasant. Would recommend but make sure you have time to chill and enjoy the river.
J. B.
As to be expected from a Beefeater. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 the menu has been reduced, but reduced does not mean there is anything wrong with it!
Service was good and our server was exceptionally helpful. Chocolate brownie is still as good as ever - nice hint of orange in there somewhere.
B. P.
The restaurant was around half full when we arrived for our 5.30 booking. The staff were very friendly and the food was of a good standard, when it finally arrived. The waitress took our order within 5 minutes of sitting down but we still waited nearly 50 minutes for a bbq chicken stack and slow roasted pork belly. We eat out quite often in Harvesters and on this occasion had gone away for our wedding anniversary, so I was not happy at the long wait. We booked an early dinner as it said the restaurant was fully booked between 6 and 8pm. Thank god we did, as I dread to think how long it would have all over run had we have gone later when they were already busy prior to our arrival time. Overall I was not impressed at this long wait and the fact we didn't get any sort of explanation or apology for it. Glad this isn't my local.
T. C.
I have had several Christmas lunches over the last couple of weeks and this was by far the best. Great service great food.
G. P.
When the staff have time to this is a great location and food is usually cooked to perfection. Sometimes it feels like staff rush off midway through food orders so have experienced calling wait on staff back to simply make sure the order is correct or have found orders to be incorrect due to the lack of being patient by some of the staff here over the years. This has happened more then a few times in years of being a customer at this restaurant. I'd say recommended place to visit just hope you get understanding staff without judgemental attitudes who rush off mid order and you'll be fine.

Service was friendly enough, but inattentive. Table wasn't as clean as expected (sticky patch, and seats full of crumbs). Food was as you would expect from a beefeater. Building is over a few levels with lots of stairs, although there is an accessible entrance, the reception is between the 2 floor. Car parking is free, but you have to register your car, the computer for which is tucked behind the reception.

Lovely food, and a lovely setting by the riverbank.
Will definitely go again, especially in the summer.

Very friendly, good service from our waitress. The new menu has some nice additions which we all enjoyed. Only disappointment was the special G&T, clearly the bar person hadn't a clue how to make them.

Lovely meal, great service and great Beefeater next to the river.
All in all a great lunch

Lovely sitting by the river. Food was delious. I eat a lot of salads but the crispy beef Asian style salad is the best I have eaten this year. Very impressed!! My friend had the steak burger and thoroughly enjoyed too. Will be visiting this Beefeater again, friendly polite staff x

The good:
- The staff were very friendly and helpful.
- There were lots of different options on the menu to pick from, not just traditional steak/beef-based meals.
The bad:
- The food was of mediocre quality - mine was burnt and tasted very bland and was also very dry.
- In my opinion, the food is too expensive for the quality described above.
- There seemed to be a rather nasty smell emanating from the dishwasher area nearby.

Nice place for a drink overlooking the river outside. But the bar food down stairs wasn't anything to write home about and over priced for what we had on the plate. But it was a feed. Not likely to eat there again from the bar. Sit down meals upstairs might be better.

Huge portions. Good value.

Very busy. Ate in the bar and the food came out cold in places. Had Sunday roast and the beef was relatively hot but everything else was colder than room temperature. Very odd. If you can't cope when it's busy then don't offer resteraunt food in the bar - the kitchen, waiter staff can't cope getting hot food out on time.

Beautiful seating area by the river, with plenty of afternoon sun. Halloumi chips were lovely. Coffees were very poor. Tip: parking is free but ensure you register your car at the reception before you take your table or bar order.

Very nice. Lovely location too right next to the Medway river

Staff are doing their best, but not much can disguise that this is a chain run by accountants with little imagination.
I had a nice fish - slightly overcooked but nice enough with good chips. My wife had a cauliflower cheese tart - again OK but the potatoes could have used brightening up - and the side salad was rubbish.
Service was excellent throughout.

We got put in an eves area above the rest of the eating area and there was no air-conditioning up there and was incredibly hot! Literally rushed out meal to get out of there. Usually lovely though and the rest of the eating area was a fine temperature

Fine for what it is, a reasonable value place to go and eat. Has all the favourites, burgers, pasta etc. So a good choice if you've got people who want different things. Nice seating by the river in the summer.

We had booked a table for 6 for 2pm ...Very busy ..staff looked in short supply and rushed off their feet 😕. We gave our drinks order and was told ALL the items NOT on the menus because they had sold out 😠. we waited ages for our drinks and had to ask again ! ..They finally arrived and our food order was taken ...I wanted to double up on the 5.0z gammon but was told I couldn't because the 10 oz had sold out !! I questioned the fact that it said I could have another 5 oz for an additional cost of £2. 99 . But was told if they did that they couldn't sell a gammon meal to someone else because they didn't have enough of those either ...!! We waited over an hour for our food which was good but they also had ran out of mayo ..I couldn't believe these poor girls were having to deal with this appalling situation they were obviously quite stressed with the problems the Malta was obviously having ...10 out of 10 for our waitress 5/10 for the restaurant. ...Also I thought the decor was quite tired in the toilets and they were a mess with paper everywhere even on the ceiling ..Also the tables weren't being cleared because of lack of staff So sadly all in all a BIG disappointment ..Not how i remembered it being from my last visit awhile ago ...

Staff were very nice. Food was average and not hot. The seats were so ridiculously low for the table we had to fold our costs as much as possible to sit on in order to be able to eat.

Not been to the Malta Inn for about 4 years and the food got much better. Ordered the mixed grill and not as big as I was expecting, left feeling hungry.

Lovely and helpful staff. My girlfriend has a severe nut allergy and the staff were so lovely and courteous going through what dishes she can and can’t have. It can be a nightmare when going out to restaurants for her so it was very much appreciated. Great service too.

Great service and great food. Had to shut early due to no hot water but made sure we were completely finished and didn't rush us before doing so! Thank you made my dad's birthday dinner lovely

Malta has always been solid. Family have been coming here for years and it has a great atmosphere and location. I wonder if it has got a bit too big though as it took us a long time to get served at both the bar and in the restaurant. Just something to keep an eye on. Otherwise it's great.

The best steak I've had in a long while. Really lovely atmosphere for such a large place. wish I took some pictures.

Went for breakfast, as advertised great food, proper breakfast, good portions all you can eat Continental included in £8.99, best of all kids under 16 eat free! However, serious lack of good coffee, advertised as Costa refill included but what you get is nasty instant in a 'help yourself flask!' Coffee in fact undrinkable. I did ask if there was any other and was told no only this. Thankfully good smoothie in a jug next to it to pour into (not so clean) glass instead. Service ok, although if you haven't been before no explanation of what to do. We followed everyone else after arriving as waitress didn't explain, although it looked as if she was the only waitress so was a bit rushed. Hot breakfast is ordered and served at your table. Overall very good value especially on holidays as kids food free and you can burn off with a long river walk after!
