T. P.Our evening was fantastic! Our server was polite, funny and very friendly. We were at table 24 and he was very attentive. We felt very looked after. I left him a tip despite him being sent home before we could tell him.
The grill was not in use on the night as it had broken.
But, this did not ditract from the wonderful ambience and general good vibe of the evening.
I have recently moved back to Kent after living in Norfolk.
Harvester, particularly this restaurant (The Running Horse) has been much missed and so revisiting this spectacular venue and being treated so well by all staff made my birthday that bit more special / memorable.
Thank you to everyone at The Running Horse!
We shall be back to dine with you all again very soon ! 😁

M. M.We went at 11.30 for early lunch, they'd just finished breakfast and were getting the salad bar ready. Service was good. I had nachos for start followed by steak - great quality (but was under cooked as I asked for medium rare and came very rare) 😬 apart from that food was good quality and value for money.
R. N.First trip to running horse and 2nd harvester this year. Massive difference between the food compared to Ashford branch. The BBQ burger was lovely and the patty was ground beef compared to Ashford which was processed. The dirty bird burger was great and really lived the southern fried chicken breasts, amazing tasting bacon. The sundae was nicely presented just quite overfilled so hard to eat and all sauce was at the bottom so a little repetitive worth a try. The salad bar was also great compared to other Harvester. Very tasty potato salad and penne pasta. All the food that we saw going round looked amazing. Totally worth the drive and will come back. The staff were all very friendly and nice. Liam ( I think that was the name in the receipt) was excellent and took care of us.
S. L.Came here for Easter for the set menu for £19.99, very good value for money, all courses were faultless. Our server was very professional, very well mannered.
d.Service was fast for the time of day and how busy the restaurant was, the food was all excellent, but it wasn't until we got home and checked the receipt that we noticed we had been overcharged. One of the main reasons for the weekday visit was the children eat for £1 offer, but we were charged full price.
EDIT - So like an idiot I didn't see the code in the email, only the offer in the title and thought it was an automatic discount. I have now changed the rating to the 5 stars they deserve.

d. h.Food was as good as usual that we have come to expect. service was good even though the restaurant was quite busy. Only complaint if we have one is with regards to the salad, the bowls seem to get smaller ever time we go in there and the selection of salad items gets smaller, i except you can return to the cart but trying to fit a portion in tiny bowls just creates a mess on the table and makes it harder to eat.

M. B.What a lovely evening. Booked a table for 10, and got confirmation right away, their web booking system is brilliant, they even managed to accommodate our request for seating. The place was busy, but it didn't feel like it, food was delivered in good time and all at once, accompanied to the salad bar and served (which I prefer, as it means the staff can keep it clean) staff were really helpful and very friendly. Plenty of parking. Highly recommended.
L. K.Pleasantly surprised how it has changed from a dark not to clean place to a nice bright clean restaurant went on a Monday afternoon and was still quite busy i had bird surf & turf was cooked to perfection even the rump was very lean cooked rare.
The waitress Teresa was very pleasant and helpful will definitely be going back.

We were a group of 10 WI members. Vicky was our waitress and was lovely! Nothing seemed to phase her, from people arriving late, getting take away boxes, and organising us all to pay separately. She was calm, helpful and friendly, thank you. As usual, the food was hot, plentiful, tasty and value for money! See you soon!
D. H.I had the beef brisket, well worth the money. You'd have aid a lot more in a restaurant for sure. Nice ambience. The only let down is having to wait for your waitress to dish you up your salad nowadays.
m. k.Once we had made our way from the car park across a busy road we were greeted by being told our waiter hadnt turned up. But the staff coped well. The food was enjoyed. The waiter asked if we wanted our dinner plates cleared before he brought dessert - not sure where he planned to place it on the small table. Managed to extricate ourselves from the car park.

B. A.Service was polite and reasonably quick however it is really frustrating having to wait for the waiter to serve us the salad from the bar. He did his best but he can't know exactly how much of each item you'd like.
J. K.We decided to pop into the Harvester for dinner with our toddler after a long drive home. Our waitress Diane was very helpful especially with bringing out our sons food early, knowing he was very hungry! Food was delicious.
A. S.Our waitress Teresa was brilliant, she went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed/wanted. Food was cooked nicely and presented well. Only thing that let this visit down was the silly system you still have in place for not being able to serve yourself at the salad cart. We’d got our salad but returning to the table my husband decided he wanted some bread rolls so I returned to simply grab 2 and the lady basically told me not to help myself and made me feel like an idiot. She was serving another group at this point so I didn’t want to interrupt her with them or wait for 2 bread rolls! So I think it’s a bit of a silly system on a busy Friday night.
V. D.The food was good but please bring back the self service salad bar and the decent size bowls you used to have for them. A lot of people feel too awkward to go back for more even though it is advertised as unlimited.
I appreciate its a cost saving exercise but it was the thing that made Harvester unique.
A. M.The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was not busy and the food took quite a while to come, I'm concerned that if they were busy the wait would be much longer. Toast arrived a long time before the meal which was disappointing but the meal was lovely.
A.Our waitress, Kerry, was fantastic! Very welcoming and efficient. Food was beautiful. We stopped coming after a few bad experiences but Sunday really restored our faith in this restaurant

A. A.Nice food, pub was clean. Parking is awful and the salad bar was very limited and quality was bad. Staff were very chatty with each other at the bar so had to keep getting up to ask for things. Not the worst experience at a Harvester buy certainly not the best either.

Staff escort you to salad cart whete they put what you want in a dish, much more hygienic and safer if you have allergies than it used to be when everyone would mix things up.

The only downside is the disabled parking. There are only 2 disabled spaces .
There is parking in main car park but narrow spaces and then have to cross quiet a busy road.

Doombar beer my husband wanted was not available and neither was the jacket potato that came with my meal.
Ordered garlic bread for the starter which were 2 huge chunks which were overcooked and rather dry and green beans that came with the meal were very hard.

S. H.Went here for breakfast. Not bad at all. Unlimited coffee or tea for 99p plus a broadly well cooked breaky. I mostly judge a breakfast by the quality of its sausages and how well the eggs are cooked. The fried eggs were spot on with runny yolks and firm whites, but the sausages were not the best. A little like Wetherspoons, you can make your own cooked breakfast if you don't fancy the set English. There are plenty of other choices too including waffles or eggs benedict for instance. The wife chose steak and eggs and she enjoyed that. Happy wife, happy life!
E. L.This review is a real mixed bag. The restaurant was really busy yesterday and therefore some of the food came out cold, other items overcooked. This is the second time it has happened on a Sunday so going mid-week seems to be a better option. The staff were lovley and tried to correct what happened which is why I would give it another go. With access to the salad bar there is a lot of option here and food allergies were dealt with well.

They allow a maximu of four from a table to go up at a time and a staff member will serve you what you want. To reduce number of people touching utensils and minimise spread of coronavirus. Only do set menus at certain times and days so need to check with restaurant.
S. B.Always amazing staff and food every single time. We eat here approx 3 times a month because it's always consistent and the staff are just lovely. I just wish the owners would do something with the shabby washroomfacilities which are very poor and really let the restaurant down.

L. H.It was so good to be welcomed back this evening. We noted how thoroughly tables were wiped down after each visitor and there wasn't a single sticky spot on our table.
The food was amazing as ever although we could finish even half as we are so out of practice on the huge portions.
The only downside and for a 4 was the fact there was only 1 toilet for all of the women in the restaurant which had no ventilation so didn't feel very covid safe but we kept our masks on and anti bac at the ready.
Really was great to be back and seeing the lovely and friendly staff.
N. L.Booked online at the beginning of the week without too much trouble. Only 2 of us but the restaurant was really busy so it took a while to get a drink ordered. The restaurant not set out very well if I am honest, where I was sitting I had people brushing past me constantly while getting to their table/toilet etc. Not ideal in the current climate.
Food came quickly and our waitress Deanna was fabulously helpful. Food was good and reasonably priced.
Toilets were hideous. No loo roll in any of the stalls, just a random loo roll left by the sink for everyone to handle. People had obviously used it to dry their hands and as such there were lots of used bits stuck around the sinks and on the floor. I hope this gets resolved.
Overall a reasonable visit, with a few changes this would be a 4/5 star rating.
c.Slow service but I can understand why..staff were very friendly but clearly busy and short staffed. Waited ages to be seated and then was put on a dirty table with chairs that had drink on them. We ended up cleaning them up ourselves. Lots of items unavailable on both food and drink menu but food was OK when arrived.

Was quiet when arrived, but soon started to fill, everyone loves a Harvester, you just can't go wrong. Everyone was polite and helpful. The food was hot and eatable. Went in hungry and we all came out with full tummys......thoroughly enjoyable

The salad bar, although no longer self service, had duplicate containers showing customers what was on offer behind a clear perspex screen. Those containers had no cover, were unnecessary and customers were able to breathe on the food. I wonder what happens to it. Is it thrown away or placed behind the screen and served to customers when they need replenishing? Neither option is acceptable.

I haven't been here in years and I was really very pleasantly surprised. Although Covid19 restrictions are still in place it was still a happy welcome when we walked in. The staff are very friendly, helpful, immaculately turned out and very knowledgeable.
We were shown to our table which was clean and clear of the usual restaurant ephemera which made the difference when eating as you knew everything was cleaned and anti-bac'd after each sitting.
The standards of hygiene here are second to none and you can see that the staff take care of their clients' and their own health and well-being as between bussing tables and taking orders they are applying antibacterial hand gel and wiping surfaces!
The food is really good, great variety, and you can easily swap out food items for another choice without any fuss. Once your order has been taken (which you are not rushed to do I don't mind adding 😉) you are then asked if you would like to visit the salad cart where a member of staff will serve you whichever items you'd like in a salad bowl (you can have a serving of everything if that's what you'd like) and a choice of white or brown dinner rolls. I'm assuming this is served in this manner due to the pandemic in order to prevent contamination? It is a free salad to accompany your meal and you can revisit if you'd like to.
There is a specific lunchtime menu to choose from and runs 11.30am to 5pm although you can obviously choose from the main menu too. We had a 3 course lunchtime menu and it was really very good food. No complaints at all and if that pleases my 80yr old Dad then that's fine by me.
Our server, Molly, was very friendly and extremely helpful and didn't stop the whole time during our visit, and we there a couple of hours.
Very reasonable prices and excellent food and service; Dad has said he'd like to come back once a month for lunch. And I have to agree with him.

K. H.Very friendly staff. Me and my friend ordered Salmon which was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately the mash was dry so had to mash it more with the butter sauce to get it to a smooth creamy mash. And the veg (peas, green beans, cabbage) was meant to be steamed, but sadly it was overcooked and flavourless. Apart from that, it was an enjoyable visit.

E. H.We went here for breakfast last Sunday. Obviously at the moment the unlimited breakfast bar isn't open, so the staff will take your order instead and asking how many of each item you want, and then bring everything to you. We said that there's been a definite improvement in the food recently: everything was cooked well and tasted like really good quality. Advise booking ahead as, even though it wasn't full it was close to being so. Plenty of hand sanitiser everywhere. Only enter during the front door, people are asked to exit out the back door.
We enjoyed it all thoroughly, and left well fed.

May have given me 25% off but poor show.

Overall, if you're looking for a good, relatively cheap meal, the Harvester is the place to go.

The first waitress was obviously coming to the end of her shift, very short with us, quite abrupt really. The second was better, but missed out on selling extra drinks etc and a simple check to make sure everything was ok would have been nice. The restaurant was fairly quiet 4pm on a rainy Monday.

K. T.Harvester seem to have really upped their game. Haven't been for a good few years but have been twice to the running horse in the past week and both experiences were great. Salad bar is always replenished and fresh looking. The mains were really tasty with nice tender meat. Delicious crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle chips. Our waitress was really attentive and there was no awkward hanging around for the bill. Really enjoyable meals both times.

J. w.Harvester has changed how the salad bar works, you are now given your bowl after you order your main course, we asked why this was and apparently people have been helping themselves to salad without ordering a main course, which is what you have to do in order to get the free salad.
Service was very slow and we were given plastic glasses for our refills, when i looked around at the other diners they all had proper glasses!
We waited nearly an hour for our mains, but when they finally arrived they were hot and tasted lovely. The waitress was very polite and apologised for the delay. The toilets were disgusting, there was toilet paper strewn everywhere in the ladies and the water was cold for handwashing.

If you ask for water, it is free from the self service drinks machine along with ice, but this is not always made clear.
Wine by the glass can be expensive, on getting the bill I found £8.50 a bit steep.
Overall, give it a go, but do check out the special offers.

Visited during the lunch period the other day. Welcoming staff were...well...welcoming and verry pleasurable. Once seated we were greeted by our waitress "Mel," massive thumbs up to her. She was amazing, quick, happy and had verry good knolage when helping us pick from the amazing range of food.
It took around 50 minutes for the food to arrive but the unlimited salid bar and Mel's service with the drinks made the wait far more enjoyable. (not to mention how many tables they had which made it understandable)
When the food arrived it just got better. It was verry well presented, cooked and delicious. I had the mixed grill which was incredible and the meats were cooked to perfection (exactly the way I ordered) meaning that the wait was totally worth it.
The food was so good and filling that we declined the desserts but having seen the menu and other tables, they too looked unbelievable.
Massive thank you to all the staff, will definitely visit next time I pass.

M. P.Need more staff. We went on a Thursday at 5pm. Went to salad bar asked for bowls told just coming then told they would be 5 mins as just gone into dishwasher. GOT THE DISH then waited for some bits to go in it. So the meal came out and we had only just sat for our salad. The meal was very good and hot.
M. g.I have given this place a miss for the past 12 months as it had seriously gone down hill. I took chance and revisited on Thursday 5th October 17 and was impressed. The whole restaurant has undergone a full refurbishment and looks great. Service was brilliant, food was Good and now refillable softdrinks machine. An improved salad cart now with pickled onions. On a down side the salad was as usual quiet bland and tasteless. Overall there was a vast improvement of this harvester restaurant. The spot roast chicken was nice and the early bird menu is good value. A vast improvement on my last visit.

£4.49 buys you as much as you can eat, of beautiful freshly prepared food. Ideal for vegetarians, but meat eaters should try it as well. It's quicker than waiting for a cooked meal and I you really must have meat they have bacon flavoured cruchy bits. As a meat eater I was more than satisfied eating just from The Salad Bar. Try it.
Finally, for the cost concscious eater, just eating the salad is very good value. The 'salad' choice is wide, and you don't have to eat single lettuce leaf if you don't want to!

S. W.Came here the other day and was pleasantly surprised. Menu had good variety for both food and drinks. I had a steak which was cooked beautifully and exactly how I asked. Lovely place
N.Disappointed. We had the tapas style starter, the potato skills were soaked in grease and really over cooked. The food was barely warm. The kids meals were ok, and the desserts were a big hit all round. Just spoilt by poor starters.

l. c.Party of ten, the food was served in good time and served hot. I had a veg option, wasn't huge but then that's why salad is on offer. My dish was served with a jacket potato and broccoli plus a little gravy dish.
Unlimited salad options include but not limited to... olives, sweet corn, beetroot, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pasta, potatoes,peppers plus croutons, bacon bits, side sauces and small rolls plus butter.
Desserts looked fab.
Only issue was a typo error on the service charge, the waitress noticed this at the time we did so rushed back to apologise and rectify.

D. C.Reasonable experience overall but they seriously need to look at dishwashing. I struggled to find a clean plate or mug. All were greasy and the mugs had rings in them. Obviously nobody checked before they were put out.

R. P.A true gem set just off the main road in to Maidstone. Great food top waitress that was very well trained made our 10th anniversary meal simply lovely. This Harvester has just had a refit and this has really made the old building bright and totally unique. Our waitress was lovely here name is Dana she's simply a credit to you here at the running horse........
