Armstrongs have been going for a good few years recommend to a few of my friends last 3 visits what a shame the fish has shrunk by at least 3 inches a lot smaller than it used to be feel the quality has Gone over the last 3 vista I thought the first visit was a mistake but after the 3rd visit I won’t be visiting again the chips were cooked twice at 1.30 on a weekday like razor blades staff helpful quality gone down

One of the best chippys in our area however their chips are a little browner than what we like and needs a good helping of salt & vinegar. The English curry sauce and gravy is yummy and so is their fish! We previously tried their largeee sausages and they are equally tasty. The fishcake however was a terrible mess which is the reason for 3⭐.. it was burnt and greasy 🤮!

Have ordered here for about 2 years and always loved the quality of the food. However recently the food is always overcooked. The fish was thin and dry and the chicken really dry too. And they keep getting our order wrong. Hopefully it improves again soon as the batter is the best in the area.

Went to take away, girls were working really hard to get everyone (including online orders) served as fast as they could. Very covid aware, screens up and can use card and only a set amount of customers in at once. There was a queue outside but it was moving pretty regularly. Friendly service and delicious food as always!

Updated review Feb 2022: Big change in the staff, lost the welcome feel across the board - nobody appears happy to be at work anymore. Quality has dropped to that of a regular chippy. Finally it's become eye watering expensive - now just shy of £8 for standard fish and chips without sides or drinks. Tell tale sign is you never see 999 crews here anymore obtaining food! Previous 5 star review: Possibly one of the best chippy's around, very clean inside and out. Very reasonble prices for the portion sizes and the staff always appear happy.

Jumbo fish was great, cooked fresh and was quicker than i thought. Jumbo sausages are a* and they are not full of grease to the point of bursting all over you when biting into them (which has happened to me before from other places). Staff are very polite, friendly, helpful and welcoming.

Cracking little chippy, always a regular when visiting family. Fresh food, top quality fish. Really clean and well lit. Will definitely be returning as the place is just lovely. Nothing beats a nice chippy on a Sunday travelling back home

Clean and fresh, and a good price. My only fault is that the portions are so large! Depending on your appetite, you can definitely share a portion between two, especially the chips. Very busy, but the service is speedy.

Great fish and chips. The fish size jumbo is incredible massive and delicious. I recommend this place to all fish and chips lovers. The only thing that let them down is one or another attendant that works like they don't want work in there. They even don't reply our greetings. It's a shame!

Best Fish n Chip shop in Manchester. This place has queues outside at popular times including lunch & tea times. The food portions are big so I usually share with my partner but the fish is delicious and they have a great choice of other options on the menu. Lots of staff to serve you quickly so you must visit if in the area.

Based on the queues out the door and the good ratings here I can only presume the regulars at Armstrongs have never had a really good fish n chips. My theory is that they continually cook too many fish at once in a single oil vat. This causes the temperature to drop lower than it otherwise would and the batter to not be as crispy all the way through as it should be. Added a star as on my last visit the fish was not as overly coated in uncooked batter as on my previous visit - actual quality of the fish itself seemed good.

Best fish and chip shop in Prestwich and an institution in itself. It's a blessing it's so close to my home. Their meal portions are super generous as well.and they are cheap. There's a wait normally as you would expect but never more than 10 mins. Their seafood platter is also amazing. There is ample parking space near the place which is great because this is a takeaway and you can sit down. But who cares

A great chippy. I've been going there for years, and it always delivers. Fresh thick cut chips and yummy fried fish. Alternatively, they sell Greenhalgh's pies, which are very good. Staff are pleasant, but run off their feet as it's always so busy.

Ok food but just too busy. The portions were generous, the fish was ok (not the best I've had) but we ordered haddock which takes 10 mins max at our other local. After a 10 minute queue, it still took 15 mins to get the food during which time the person serving us wandered off for a bit and didn't inform us of the wait time- if I'd known I would've had cod, I don't love haddock that much. Can't see myself going back...

15 mins wait £5.35 fish and chips not much fish a lot of batter i thought I would give them the benefit on recent 2nd visit; Same again gone down hill. Also while I'm waiting to be served I noticed the dirty fly screen with plenty of dead flys and dusty strands above the fridges was the same as 3 months ago not as clean as you think, this place used to be excellent . I'm done won't be coming here again

The cod is pretty good and the chips portions are humongous! Two of us struggled to eat just a single regular chip portions. Can be quite busy sometimes, but the staff work quickly to get your order done fast.

Armstrongs is my local chippy and the food is fabulous. Huge fish with great batter. You can even choose a lighter batter if you prefer. I generally visit at least once a week and love it. Highly recommended. Enjoy.

Under the current climate of queueing to get any sort of food, Armstrong's is no exception...!! However, once in you get served what I would call a healthy - sized bit of cod with your seriously good chips. I don't know if I caught them on a good day or not, but it would appear that this is the norm for them, it's not often you can find a chippy with a decent size to a bit of chunky cod, and apparently they have bigger size one as well b'cos I only got the standard..!! So I will be returning to sample it again, as the price isn't extortionate, but I hope they get the price right b'cos the girl on the till did overcharge me.....

Chips undercooked every time I go there but food very good in general and another thing is ladies do not use gloves when serving customers! Trying to open burger bun with bare hands after touching card machine where everyone is touching it. You definitely got to change that white 'yellow' cloth you are using to wet your fingers!

The best chippy in the North West that I have found. Superb food, quick service. Only lost a star for selling/ using the inferior vinegar substitute known as " Non Brewed Condiment". Luckily as a chippie afficionado I always carry a bottle of proper Sarsons brewed malt vinegar in the car. I have no idea why so many chippies use the horrible substitute vinegar when the real stuff (real brewed malt vinegar) is only 50p a litre at Aldi. An almost perfect chippy!
