Reviews of El Gato Negro Tapas Manchester
W. P.
Good service. And cocktails too.
Love those little dishes and usually 4-6 for two person. You got to taste a lot of different flavours.
Recommend!
[please see my uploaded photos for food names.
W.
Not sure what the fuss is about but we were quite disappointed after dining here. All the dishes were unfortunately mediocre.
It’s a nice restaurant though, going over 3 floors. The service was attentive and cheery, and the cocktails were yummy. We had the cod croquettes which were a bit dry and doughy in texture. The octopus was not very tender. The tortilla, lamb skewers and baby squid were okay but not very exciting. The short rib was tender but had Asian flavours with a ginger glaze, pickles and spring onions on top.
Average for such a well rated restaurant and I wouldn’t recommend.

This was my first visit here and it certainly won't be my last.
I am a home cook and cook from scratch, cooking foods from around the world.
This was a real treat for me having a day off cooking.
The food food was superb as was the staff
I couldn't fault anything.
The best sangria's too.
All of the food was so delicious 😋
I made this too for my family a few days after
(Last 10 photos).
I am looking forward to my next visit.

Lovely atmosphere, sat at the chef's table and had an amazing time observing the chefs and seeing how professional and friendly they are! Food was absolutely delicious, the serving staff was friendly, and helpful! Definitely recommend, amazing experience!

Situated two minutes from the geographical centre of Manchester, the restaurant is the entire building so if you have issues with stairs, inform them. We had the 3rd floor, in an area that if it hadn't been raining has a retractable roof. The staff were all friendly, approachable and attentive to you having an enjoyable dining experience. The menus is tapas, small plates but far from small in every way. They recommend three plates per person, which is a good starting point, the portions are well sized (although 3 scotch eggs shared between two can be awkward, I would love the option to even the number, happy to pay an extra fee of course). Dishes come as they are ready and each dish was a delight in presentation, smell and taste. Having ordered fish, meat and veg, all were without a doubt sublime. I will return and I am sure the food will be just as fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed the mini scotch eggs and chocolate cake above all.

Went in for a late afternoon tapas with my girlfriend before the Liam Gallagher concert in Manchester. We didn’t have a reservation however I would recommend booking ahead as it was really busy (I think we were pretty lucky to get a table).
We had 5 dishes between the two of us and all 5 were absolutely brilliant. The meatballs probably being the best of the lot!
The service was great and the staff were really attentive. Would 100% recommend to anyone as this was easily the best tapas I’ve had outside of spain.
J. W.
Loved our trip to El Gato, we managed to grab a last minute table upstairs on Friday afternoon - the staff were very friendly throughout! The prawns where the pick of the bunch but also very much enjoyed Salt Cod Croquetas, potatas bravas and asparagus. We'll definitely be coming back!

Visited for lunch on Saturday.
The food was amazing. Every single dish was first class.
The staff were great and the wine choice was awesome as well.
The venue is lovely as well. I recommend booking well in advance though as we got lucky but heard them having to turn lots of people away.
A. J.
I took my partner for her birthday here on a Sunday. Amazing food and service. Would highly recommend coming here, looking forward to visiting again.
G. S.
Amazing food. Took a picture of the first dishes that arrived but was so delish I forgot when the rest came. Portions bigger than I expected, menu is fairly safe but everything is done so well you don't want to miss a crumb.
M. D.
Really nice place it covers maybe 4 floors the atmosphere is very chilled the food was amazing i had 6 different tapas and desserts and a few cocktails the service was excellent will defo go back.
J. A.
Amazing food, top quality. Would happily eat here again. Sangria was said to be top notch!
J. D.
Gorgeous food, the best squid I've had in the UK. Lovely setting, good service, would definitely go back
L. C.
Stunning food, lovely romantic restaurant. Service was wonderful. Will definitely go again. 🥰 we are still discussing today what was our favourite dish. And what we will order next visit! 😋
J.
The restaurant had a nice ambience, busy but not too crowded. We visited on a Tuesday evening.
The host showed us to our table promptly (we had a reservation so didn't have to wait)
The menu suggested 5-6 tapas dishes for 2 people which I felt was more then enough. We ordered Salt cod croquetas, Pan-fried hake fillet, Chargrilled lamb skewers, Chargrilled beef fillet skewers, Patatas bravas and Spiced aubergine. All but one dish did not disappoint. The beef tasted a bit powdery (probably slightly overcooked). My standout dishes were the lamb, hake and croquetas so would certainly recommend those. For dessert we had Turrón crème Catalan, which was silky smooth - a lovely treat to end the meal. All in all a great little tapas restaurant, worth a visit for sure.
'. F.
Great location and atmosphere, the olives were amazing, and the squid was good, the other dishes we ordered weren’t that impressive. But only three stars because they add a 10% service charge to your bill before they bring it to you, so you either accept it, or you have to look like a d**k if you ask them to remove it. I don’t like being press ganged into tipping, I’m an American, if your service is good enough you’ll get your tip!
J. R.
Beautiful restaurant and good food. Would recommend the Catalan bread with tomatoes and meatballs
M. W.
Very busy over 3 floors, had tapas at bar. Staff really friendly great quality and variety of Tapas. Definitely recommend.
F. R.
Excellent Tapas bar and restaurant. The ambiance is relaxing and the service is great.
The food is top notch and the wine list is quite extensive. Highly recommended.
V. I. M.
One of the best Spanish restaurants in Manchester after Manchester had no Spanish restaurants for a long time time nevermind good one. The only thing is the price if you live between Manchester and Madrid you will notice the difference in prices for same dish whomever you have to consider Rayanair price at the time
J. P.
Excellent. Seated Immediately, Place Was Buzzing Without Being Cramped And Over Populated. Very Comfortable Surroundings, Top Floor With The Roof Terrace Open Was Very Pleasant. Waitress Was Very Attentive Without Being Overbearing Or Cheesy. Food Was Great, First Plate Arrived Very Quickly And Others Followed Soon After. Flavours Were Great, Portions Were Spot On, Prices Were Great. Would Definitely Recommend And Definitely Return
J. C.
Good was fantastic. We sat at the chef's table. Really enjoyed it. Well worth a visit
T. D.
Amazing food
Amazing wine
Amazing service
What a place
Every dish was perfect
In fact it was better than I’ve had in top end places in Spain
Can’t wait to come back!
D. M. T.
Nice food, I would recommend to try the crispy fried baby squid, it is delicious!
The sangria is refreshing and good too.
But the jamón serrano is missing something....
V. H.
We had dinner here and enjoyed the veggie options (of which about 8). Sangria was lovely. The decor /seating was very nice. Staff professional and wearing masks still.
A.
This is an absolute must visit. Remarkable tapas, we would go as far to say our evening and food here was better than any evening we had in Barcelona last September. Every dish was mouth-watering, especially the beef short rib, which melted away in the mouth. Blueberry cheesecake was incredible, one of the best deserts I have ever had. FoH staff were great and attentive. The chefs here are extremely talented so everyone should visit.
We might move cities to Manchester just to spend more of our date nights here. Thank you very much.
S. E.
Sat on the rooftop terrace with lovely food and cocktails! Bliss 🤗
j. h.
Went for birthday meal. A good range of dishes to choose on the menu. All were excellent . Its not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and worth the money spent . Sat at the chefs area watching dishes being prepared. Well presented. Thank you all staff for excellent service
R. D.
Great place! Fabulous food, brilliant service and a lovely atmosphere. Couldn't fault it!
S. R.
Service was amazing food tasty definitely I will come back
F. 3.
Great tapa, sunshine and Estrella on the roof terrace. Highly recommended, the beef short rib was outstanding
A. B.
I only wish we hadn't been so eager to eat so I could share some photos of the food. The whole experience was fab, service was great and all of our food was excellent. Every dish was full of flavour and the atmosphere was lovely. Would highly recommend a visit!
T.
The food was delicious and lots of vegan options. I would say it’s a bit overpriced for Manchester though. The quality was excellent.
P. S.
Awesome food, Staff a credit , excellent service.
Would highly recommend.
Food was amazing.Beef shin was worth the visit alone.*****
L. T.
Excellent food and service. Our first time, but won't be our last. We really enjoyed it. The quality if the food was amazing. Would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for great tapas.
J. P.
Wow, this tapas is wonderful. Its a really lovely restaurant, great ambiance and the food is gorgeous. Its on King Street in the city centre of Manchester which is a very affluent part of town, so if you want to go for something a little special, it's the place to go. Unfortunately I have no photos to contribute, but it's got a definite 5 stars from me.
L. B.
I never give 5 stars to anyone. However, this will be an exception. Can't find any faults with this restaurant. Food is perfect. Staff are super friendly and relaxed and good value for money. This will be in my highly recommended places to eat in Manchester. You definitely need to check for table availability as it gets very busy.
So I have visited this restaurant again in July 2021 and unfortunately it has lost 1 star from my original 5 Star review. Don't get me wrong the food is still good but somehow not as impressive as it was 3 years ago. The lost star I guess is mainly due to it seems to offer only tapas whilst in the past they offered full meals. There were some mistakes in the bill, we were charged for a starter we never got even though I asked for the starter more than once it never arrived but it was included in the bill. This alone should lose 2 stars.
A. P.
Amazing atmosphere and food. The food comes quickly and gets you begging for more. The waiters are lovely, and the interior decor is wonderful. We had a wonderful night, and I would certainly recommend it to a friend.
I. T.
Fantastic food and cocktails in a lovely atmosphere. Loved the Harissa-spiced chicken. Taken 2 stars off as we were told we needed to vacate the table after 1 hour of being there. We were not informed of this at the time of booking and we were very disappointed as a group of friends who had not seen each other in over two years. We were prepared to spend more on food and cocktails but this option was taken away from us.
C. M.
The food was delicious, we had their short rib and sweet potatoes. Highly recommended
F.
First time here; delicious food, warm atmosphere, celebrated two birthdays & were, very kindly, given lovely extra desserts because of that. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating staff. We had a fantastic evening and will definitely be back again
E. B.
Incredible food!! Really delicious. Some regular tapas favourites as well as some new takes on the cuisine. Cauliflower was amazing as was the goats cheese. Sat in roof terrace which was lovely and service was good.
L. L.
Good cocktails and really good service. However, the food fell a bit short and was quite lacklustre. We had the cod croquetas, which were quite nice, and we enjoyed the meatballs; the octopus was okay and the aubergine was heavily spiced in what seemed to be cumin and cinnamon.
j. d.
My family had a fabulous meal yesterday the authentic ambiance is fab. All the food was first class lamb skewers scotch eggs octopus and sharing
board stand out but everything was yum. Super service from very helpful staff we will def return
R. G.
Good food, atmosphere was very busy (then again it was bank holiday). In my honest opinion portions were quite small, price was okay but didn't match with servings in my opinion. Probably won't go again but can't say I didn't enjoy
T. R.
Food was lovely and ambience excellent, Nice and chilled. It was a real shame we were asked to vacate the table when they clearly didnt need it. I watched the same happen to a couple next to us so I think the restaurant has a policy after a couple of hours. I would have stayed and consumed and spent more, hence giving it 4 not 5 stars
b. b.
Very average food and service in a lovely setting. Was really looking forward to this place but wish we'd gone to the amazing Evuna instead. If you do visit this place my suggestion would be not to book for a late sitting, earlier service may be better but we'll be sticking to Evuna from now on
C. G.
Had a lovely family lunch here. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional.
Great tapas in a great family friendly atmosphere. Everyone from grandparents to 8 months old granddaughter had a lovely time.
N. W.
My partner and I visited last night. Underwhelming/average food quality. Portions are small for the price, and the restaurant had ran out of squid.
The salt cod crocquetas are 99% potato and bland. I understand crocquetas are meant to have potato in them, but surely not to that extent!
We also ordered a blue cheese with thin crackers. The cheese was extremely strong, it practically burnt out mouths to eat it, and there weren't enough crackers to eat it in smaller amounts. I love blue cheese, so was really disappointed when this cheese turned out to be an affront to the senses.
The best dishes were the octopus legs and the bread with tomato and olive oil. Good amount of flavour in both of those dishes. My only criticism is that some of the thicker octopus legs could have done with a little more grilling.
The redeeming feature of this place is that the staff were polite and attentive, we were seated quickly, service was fast, and we weren't rushed to leave.
M. S.
We had a fantastic meal here this evening. The staff were brilliant and really accommodating to some dietary needs. Lovely atmosphere and good value for the quality.
R. W.
Food was decent but the service was really bad. The waitress kept on counting the time left to the end of her shift (must have mentioned it 5-6 times). When you trying to have a relaxing dinner it doesn't do much for the atmosphere in the restaurant.
P. H.
For food.. Almost 5 starts, for service 2.
After waiting a very long time, the waiter forgot to enter our order, then lied about that making it much worse... No.. It actually got even worse than that. They tried to charge a predetermined amount for service.
After complaining they did remove that and comp one drink.
But we lost almost 2 hours to lunch on our last full day of visiting the UK can't get that back.
Again good was very good, service not so much so
J. S.
Three of us went for late lunch/early dinner on a sunny Saturday in May. The food was excellent but the overall experience was ruined by the staff reminding us how long we had left at the table every time they delivered a dish. Nothing like a hard stop to help you relax and enjoy excellent food and wine!
P. B.
Excellent Tapas bar and restaurant. The ambiance is relaxing and the service friendly and efficient.
The food is top notch and the wine list extensive. A bit pricey but value for money. The top floor is a stylish cocktail bar.
C. H.
Amazing !!! Food is superb many highlights which include the short rib , octopus, fillet skewers. All top notch and bursting with flavours. Oliver our waiter was brilliant, we will be back for more amazing food and service.
J. O.
The croquetas are awesome and the beef skewers were surprisingly plentiful for small plates and the Catalan bread with garlic and tomato was refreshing and light. My wife also really enjoyed the Tiger prawns.
M. C.
The simple dishes were excellent
M. B.
Food was amazing, staff were helpful and the restaurant had a lovely feel to it. Highly recommended!
j. w.
Lovely venue and food was excellent. Couldn't fault the staff.
What more can you say, easy to get to in the centre.
Booking was essential.
B. R.
Beautiful authentic dishes. Slightly too overpriced for what it is compared to other tapas places though. Staff are fabulous though.
J. M.
Great place, good choice of tapas and great selection of drinks. Staff very friendly, service good. Would definitely go again
b. s.
The Tapas and cocktails were great!!The Cava Sangria took me to back to Spain!
W. P.
Quality tapas served with efficiency and good humour. We had a chefs table so were well entertained watching food being prepared and plated for service. Great atmosphere of people enjoying good food and companionship. Recommend the beetroot tapas, salted cod, but especially the board of spanish meats. Highly recommended for the overall experience
P. G.
Good food. But a little slow service. Staff very kind.
S. N.
Simply the best fine-dining tapas restaurant in Manchester - romantic setting, exquisite food and drink presented exceptionally and served by knowledgeable and genuine waiting staff (we had Oliver). Great choice for a special occasion such as an anniversary or birthday but not cheap - expect £50 per person for 3 dishes and a bottle of house red which is gorgeous.
E. H. (.
We visited for the first time and wow what can we say the service, food & the atmosphere was fantastic! We will be back and next time we will try the desserts which we didn't have time for on this occasion.
I. B.
Beautiful food. Fillet skewers melt in the mouth, Cauliflower was sensational. Fish was beautiful.
Would 100% reccomend.
K. G.
What can I say other than what a fantastic place offering great food, with great staff in a relaxed atmosphere that more than exceeded expectations. We were thoroughly looked after from the moment we arrived to when we left. Not cheap but well worth it. Try the Octopus for something a bit different , lamb skewers and chicken thighs were superb. Don't forget to leave room for dessert..some real gems on the menu. Also has a great selection of sherries. Highly recommended.
C. T.
Had the lunch deal here which was 3 of the indicated dishes for £15 (shown with a small arrow on the menu > ) this made for a nice selection of tapas for a lunch, and with two people ordering and sharing you get a nice range of things to try. I'm not sure full price would have been worth it as some of the dishes are about £10 each for basically 4 mouthfuls. Everything we ordered was nice, and recommend the cheese and ham croquettes and the chicken thighs/drumsticks
p. h.
Great menu and varirty freshly prepared and quality in handy size, staff courteous and its great to sit a Chef's Table to watch them.work.
J. J.
Great tasting tapas, there's a reason this place usually needs a reservation. 3 floors of tables, a cosy ambience and top date night spot. The ingredients taste fresh and are cooked with skill. The menu is appetising though the wines felt uninspiring. Service was good, though there was a slight mixup sadly. Top notch for food in my book and one of the best tapas offerings in the city.
J. N.
Sat on the rooftop, definitely the best tapas that we've ever had. Great selection and what we ordered was lovely, the lamb was a highlight. Good size portions, we had 6 plates between the two of us, and it was more than enough. For dessert we had the fondue and they nicely replaced the marshmallows with more fruit for us. Definitely will be returning.
N. M.
Excellent food and cocktails, service was good
And the upstairs open roof is a nice touch on a sunny day
Highly recommend!!!
J. B.
Delicious food. Bit pricey but the quality of food is good. The house red is also great as well!
H. B. (.
Loved this place back when it was in my local village and couldn't wait to try it again at the King Street branch. Was extremely excited to see they still did my favourite dish - boquerones with a modern twist - and it was as delicious as ever. The tapas portions are small but satisfying and they have a good selection of decadent desserts. We were stuffed but couldn't resist trying the truffles!
J. C.
Food was incredible, service was friendly, speedy, and subtle (our water bottle kept "magically" refilling itself). Can't fault it.
Return visit: main courses still excellent, but sticky toffee cake dessert was a real lowlight, with bland ice cream. Excellent service.
R. M.
Nice food and ambiance - Is slightly on the pricey side but your paying for quality - Worthy of a return for sure!
A. L.
I've heard so many good things about this place and finally, I got the chance to give it a go. It's great but it wasn't wow for me. First impressions are good; lovely, casual and cosy ambiance, not too cramp, clean and well staffed; they were super friendly and helpful with suggestions. Food was the priority and it was a bit of a hit and miss. Top dishes were the chargrilled octopus and chargrilled chicken thighs; the flavours were distinct and superb. The unfortunate misses were the lamb meat balls (off the specials menu) and braised ox cheeks. The meatballs didn't feel like they were seasoned much and was dry-ish, whilst the braised ox cheek came across as a simple unexciting dish. The patatas bravas were good (a classic dish that thankfully wasn't massacred as most other places would do) whilst the pimientos del Padron could have done with a bit more sprinkling of salt. And to wash that all down was a really lovely fig belini. Overall, it's great and I would definitely return.
A. H.
We walked in off the street, it was busy but the staff accommodated us. The waiter was amazing and made us feel special. We only had an hour and the waiter made sure we got our food quickly and efficiently.
The food itself was amazing and cooked to perfection. Was a real special evening for my partner and I. Highly recommend!
K. B.
Went here for my 13th wedding anniversary. If you like tapas you will love the selection. Very welcoming staff, laid out over three floors. We were wished happy anniversary by the staff as soon as we arrived. Our waiter was great explained all the food selections. Complimentary table water. There is a 10% service charge but the waiter makes you aware of this and asks if you want to pay it. Great food and great staff would definitely go again.
J. N.
The most fantastic food. Would highly recommend - tortilla de patata and desserts are particularly amazing!!
M. C.
Enjoyed the food and service. Nice little Spanish gem in the centre of town. Recommended.
A. W.
My new fave restaurant! Food was fantastic! Atmosphere busy and bustly. Service was very good.
We were a table of 8, ordered olives and bread for the table to start. We each ordered 2 dishes and then added the veg plates for the table. I ordered the lamb skewers and the pork dish. The lamb was the best thing ive tasted in ages! Pork was delicious. We went for the broccoli, the cauliflower and the patatas bravas. Every mouthful was mouth watering. Highly recommend a visit!
C. M.
Sublime. Well deserved reputation. Delicious food. Not Adrian Feria versus Heston Blumenthal. More atmospheric and convivial.
Friendly and accommodating staff. Worth repeated visits.
L. W.
In my opinion one of the best places in Manchester to spend a Saturday night. Buzzy, friendly atmosphere, great food. They make a mean Sangria at the bar and have Billecarte, my favourite fizz along with some very good Riojas.
The tapas are extremely good and of course we ordered way too many, but all so tempting.
The tiger prawns, charcuterie platter, octopus, chicken thighs (particularly tasty), sweet potato, heritage carrots, croquettes, manchego cheese, beef skewers were all delicious . Special mention to the staff who were all very friendly and attentive, especially Sylvia who looked after us very well....
L. C.
Excellent....food delicious..loved the Hake..service excellent..very friendly...great wine menu...highly recommend...beautiful setting
K. J.
Everything about this restaurant was divine; the food, the service, the space. There are so many samey tapas restaurants, but this one is different. It’s special, you’ll love it! I can’t wait to go back!
H. M.
Great food.
Service and atmosphere superb.
Would definitely recommend anyone to visit..
S. D.
I will start by saying this is my frist time having Tapas so I was very unsure if I would enjoy it or not. But the restaurant was fabulous food was great and level of service plus I even managed to see some off the food being prepared from the kitchen where I was sitting. This is a must go place in Manchester
M. G.
Great food Great atmosphere. A lot of stairs, although after I commented on all the stairs, 3 flights & reaching our dining floor, was told there is a lift at the back of the restaurant. Should have been offered. Enjoyed the food. More help translating menu would have been a bonus.
S. C.
Consistency is key and El Gato has never faltered on quality of the food for us. Agreed that some dishes aren't INCREDIBLE but the ones that always are for us are -
Beef short rib
Patatas Bravas
King Prawns
Baby Chorizo
The short rib is absolutely phenomenal. Only 4 stars as I do agree with a previous review, adding a tip on forcing someone to ask to remove it can be a little rude. It's a choice to tip, and it should be a choice to opt in, not have to opt out. We have never felt like we wouldn't tip anyway but still, always puts a mini damper on it.
I'd do 4.5 if I could. We do love it here 🤍
L. H.
Excellent food, excellent service and lovely place. Would thoroughly recommend. Shout out to Giannis who couldn’t do enough for us 👍
E.
Very nice tapas place in Manchester. I went during lunch time and was able to get some tasty tapas for a reasonable price. Still I think is not a cheap place but if you like tapas, it's worth a visit
A. G.
A bit pessimistic going here with the ball and chain. Once the dishes had arrived my mind was soon changed. All the food we ordered was delicious, beef short rib had to be my favourite though. I can't say I'm a cauliflower lover but what the chef did with it made me want to order on my next visit!
A. S.
Party of six celebrating a "special" birthday. From start to finish, the whole experience was fantastic. We had Lauren as our server, and she really is a credit to you. Very pleasant, and helpful. Food was amazing. Definitely going to return!
S. P.
If you like tapas you enjoy this experience.
Good quality food.
A little expensive with 20% service charge.
j. m.
Very nice and cosy environment.
Definitely better than La Vina on deansgate
Three stars instead of four as the food is way too complex in terms of flavours for a standard palate.
Acidic notes predominant in all the tapas. Would recommend for a first tapas experience. I won't visit the restaurant again though.
M. H.
It's always difficult finding a good restaurant when you are not local, but Google wasn't wrong!! This place was absolutely perfect.
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and amazing staff.
Thank you for a lovely evening
G. L.
Fish is nice, but not the meat ball and aubergine
N.
Great food -great service in a relaxing atmosphere -happy to recommend to anybody. A nice relaxing Sunday affy/evening -away from the Xmas market madness!
I. L.
Food was delicious, roof top terrace was a lovely setting. Staff and service first rate. Prices a little high.
M.
Great food, friendly staff. Great for a special occasion. Wouldn't go on an empty stomach as you could easily spend over £100 on a meal for two
L. T.
The most beautiful staff EVER, El personal más hermoso de todos. Took the time out of busy service to converse with my partner who's learning Spanish at the moment, he's itching to get real life experience of conversation to improve and the staff at El Gato kindly obliged. Cool vibe, even cooler staff. Muchos gracias ❤️❤️
C. M.
Food was nice, would like it to have a few more options or be a bit more reasonably priced but over all the food taste good
E. L.
Good atmosphere, tasty tapas. Perfect place to catch up with friends over an informal bite to eat and drinks.
G. F.
Fantastic place! Lovely atmosphere, superb food, excellent value and terrific service. Highly recommended for a lazy lunch!
M. E.
Omg .... the food here is unreal .... people you need to go here chefs seat very good
A. M.
Absolutely lovely. Gorgeous food and lovely environment. Would definitely recommend
L.
Really quite average food and expect a 13% service charge regardless of whether you thought the service was good or not. Lovely place though and nice atmosphere.
E. K.
Excellent service! Very good quality of fish and seafood... definitely recommend it and I would go back for sure!
G. W.
The location is very convenient.
The atmosphere is good.
Food is really nice too! I personally love their beef skewer and chicken thighs 🍗
It was so tasty that I forgot to take any photos. Haha
S. B.
One of the best meals I have had in Manchester - every dish was amazing I just wish I could have tried them all!
E. W.
Really enjoyed our meal here. Wide range of excellent choices on the menu. Service was great too. Will be back again.
B. C.
Beautiful and comfortable restaurant serving Spanish tapas. Good variety and food cooked to perfection. We had 7 different dishes and were all really tasty. The service is good, just delayed one of my drinks but this could not spoil our great dinner. Will definitely visit again!
C. L.
Great food , wonderful atmosphere and lovely staff . A must to visit . You will not be disappointed.
J. M.
There is no doubt that this place is probably not suitable for people those who like big portions at reasonable prices... but if you love inventive and delicious food this place is for you... also draft beer at reasonable price for a pint.

Fantastic staff, beautifully cooked food and great casual atmosphere, would highly recommend the prawns with aioli!
G. D.
Fabulous food & drinks, relaxed atmosphere, great location - will definitely eat here again when next in Manchester.
e. R.
Food good...party of 7 so had the tapas party menu....plenty provided, and good quality.
E. H.
Best tapas I’ve ever had, and by far the best restaurant in Manchester.
T. D. C.
Great ambiance. Excellent food. Was brilliant watching the chefs at work
R. L.
Super Sunday afternoon enjoy the atmosphere made you feel very welcome the food was nice sharing small plates
R. T.
Great quality and variety of tapas dishes. Very polite and attentive staff.
F. R.
Food good, service erratic and too slow, then they told us we had 20 minutes to vacate the table. Not impressed.
C. K.
Exceptional food.Everything we ate was just delicious. Great service, lovely atmosphere.
L. A.
Staff are excellent, food is always amazing, the atmosphere is lovely, highly recommend!! One of the best places for food in Manchester!
D. R.
Small portions not for me , thought it was expensive for the portion size .food was nice and the service was ok
D. R.
We had a party on the top floor with a steady flow of tapas and the food and service was excellent.
A. W.
Extremely busy venue, all of the time. Great food. Recommend the octopus
J. G.
Had Sunday tapas sharing board. Dined on the top floor with the retractable roof open. Friendly staff. Very nice food. Good atmosphere. Not the cheapest, but great flavours. Good sangria too!!
N. H.
Absolutely magnificent. Most recently sat at the "Chef's table" overlooking the kitchen area. Matt the chef could not have been more helpful and enthusiastic, recommending dishes and being a great host. Can't wait to visit again, and will definitely be telling everyone about this place.
P.
As good as you'll get. Excellent food and lovely staff can't wait to visit again!
K. D.
Excellent experience. Heard and read a lot about this place and was not disappointed. Great ambience, decor and service. Food generally of a very high standard, although some dishes were average. Overall pleasantly surprised, and will definitely come back here again.
J. M.
Second visit to this amazing place. Food, service, cleanliness, ambience, infact just about every area of the evening was on point.
K. P.
A lovely venue in Manchester for dinner, they have a roof terrace, which at the time was hosting a private party, the food was delicious, we had an assortment of meat and vegetarian dishes that my daughter enjoyed too!
They also had a good wine list, they have other places in Leeds and Liverpool, we will definitely visit again, if we are near any of the locations.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
m. b.
Very good lunch! Busy and good food, you have to go there!
C. G.
Great tapas and great service. This is an upmarket restaurant and the quality of the food stands out. This is reflected in the prices. Staff are efficient, friendly and attentive but not over familar. The decor is inviting and modern, public areas are clean and tidy. Definitely worth a visit If you are in the city centre. We had a table booked for 3pm on a Friday and the place was busy so always book in advance.
T. C.
Absolutely loved this place, we even went back there for brunch next day. Pwarns were the show starer.
H. T.
Venue is lovely, set over 3 floors. Food is delicious, though the dishes are very spaced out. So a meal can take a while. Make sure you book a table!
L. A.
Had a brilliant meal. Lovely service and top food
F. B.
If you want great service, gorgeous food and atmosphere, this is the restaurant for you!
The menu will satisfy those who love comfort food and those who are foodies! A definite destination.
Great wine list, the decor unique, quirky, high end without being pretentious.
Highly recommend and booking a must
k.
The food is great and the service is very good. Only 3 stars because of the 10% service charge that is already on the bill when it comes. It does say you can request it to be taken off. But not everyone will have the confidence to do that. It should be upto the customer how much they want to give. The customer shouldn't be told
T. P.
Great atmosphere, tapas menu has lots of choice and very reasonably priced.
Would definitely return.
S. R.
Our friends recommended us here and I’m so glad they did. By far best tapas I’ve been to in a long time. Good atmosphere, Although staff could of been a bit more friendly. Will be back when visiting Manchester again.
L. P.
The tapas was lovely especially the croquettes! The service was a bit mixed we were served a cocktail that wasn't what it stated on the cocktail list and then told that the bar tender said that was right (it was quite obvious it wasn't what we had ordered) it was changed and it wasn't a big deal but it just felt a bit awkward as we approached the issue with grace and apologetically and kinda felt a bit like we were wrong to do so. The cocktails in general were not really to our taste but that is personal preference. We were outside due to current restrictions and service was quick and they managed the situation really well, our waiter for food was absolutely fantastic and I would return for food... It looked very atmospheric and classy inside and I look forward to visiting and eating inside in the future.
A. G.
Excellent food and a warm and welcoming ambience. Service was initially a little slow on our most recent visit - it was a very busy lunch service - but improved significantly as it became a little quieter.
C. S.
Great place to visit with very friendly staff, both servers and chefs. Great care on food and service. Muchas Gracias
T. Y.
Lovely food, nice atmosphere, really good service
M. K.
Very enjoyable. Good food, nice atmosphere, friendly service, big thank you to Jasmine for looking after us.
R. Q.
Lovely tapas, served quickly in a nice booth in a great atmosphere
R. D.
Some of the best Tapas I've had. So tasty. The ribs were melt in your mouth delicious. When we thought the wine tasted not quite right someone came over, offered suggestions let us taste between two and get it replaced. Really attentive and friendly service.
M.
A well decorated restaurant that serves an array of interesting tapas. Some of the dishes were really well crafted like their chargrilled octopus, the braised oxtail and the chargrilled heritage carrots. All of them were well cooked, the carrots in particular had well-balanced, interesting flavours.
Some of the dishes were just okay. Their chargrilled baby back ribs and roasted quail, both of which paled in comparison to the other dishes. Prices weren't exactly the cheapest but the portions were generous compared to other tapas bars around.
Our waiter on the night was friendly but service felt a bit too spaced out and absent at times.
R. A.
Delicious food in a lovely atmosphere. Staff attentive an friendly.
J. L.
Tasty tapas and an unusual view of the night sky from the top floor!
P. T.
Great place, lovely food, friendly staff, very reasonable price would go again and highly recommend to friends and family.
J. L.
Great food. Chorizo was fantastic.
I. d.
Tasty tapas, good service and drinks really good. I just wouldn't put it as 5* star food though
e. c.
The most beautiful food and atmosphere, lovely friendly staff and nice background music to add to the ambiance.
M. W.
Lovely tapas, really nice decor and great wine. It was casual where we were in the ground floor bar. I can recommend the prawns, the scotch eggs and the macaroons.
S. N.
Good atmosphere, okay staff, very busy at weekends and pricey average food
J. C.
Had a lovely meal. Food was good though I didn't quite meet my expectations. Though this is no fault of theirs. Was highly recommended by a few friends. So may be our expectations were a little to high.
B. P.
Brilliant place!!! Exciting tastes, extremely delicious food creatures. Top service!
В. С.
Food as piece of art. Great place, definitely recommend.
R. Y.
We wanted every dish, they all sounded great. We ordered plenty and weren't disappointed. You only get the table for 90 minutes though, so it's not the most casual experience if you want to order dishes in a leisurely manner
B. F.
Great decor, good food, but very small portions for what you pay. I agree that you have to pay to get quality food but there's small portions and small portions... 😁
j. j.
Lovely ambience here and food good. Not quite as amazing as it was the first time we came about 6 months ago - tapas was a bit luke warm tbh - hence the 4 stars.
C. B.
To be honest I was disappointed in the food, however service was great. Also the lighting is a bit dark for a tiny menu.
R. K.
Good drinks. Very nice venue. Friendly Staff. Good restaurant
C. M.
Great service, great food, can't ask for anymore, top marks, definitely be returning
J. F.
Great tapas bar everything we had was good. Will return to try more.
D. w. J.
Every aspect was first class, the service, the venue and the food perfect
L. S.
Brilliant food and atmosphere will be going again 👍🏻
M. W.
Nice little outdoor spot. Didnt go inside but great service and decent prices
K. M.
Really good food. Great staff. Good drink selection. Fantastic atmosphere. Not the best tapas we've ever eaten for what we paid, but definitely up there. Would go again.
t. l.
excellent food! so so good. Excellent service as well. Really good food. Highly recommend
T. M.
The food is of the highest quality and everything about the restaurant is high quality.
D. R.
Outstanding food - not the cheapest place but what do you expect on King Street. It can get busy so you may want to book in advance at peak times.
J. M.
Good service and food. High pricing for tapas.
A. R.
The ambiance, service, tapas and wine were all good, but it was a bit pricey. I liked it that not all the dishes came at once. Before the pandemic, Evuna Deansgate was at least as good, and not as pricey, but I haven't been since. Some friends recently ate at Evuna Northern Quarter, and said it was disappointing.
J. S.
Lovely tapas restaurant. Good quality food, everything we had tasted great. The sticky toffee pudding was pretty amazin.
J. T.
Came in for lunch yesterday. Literally everything we ordered was absolutely outstanding! The most standout things on the menu for me though were the acorn fed iberico, prawns and tortilla.
The el gato negroni was fantastic as well, really refreshing.
Our waitress was really attentive and welcoming as well, didn't get her name. But the blonde gjrl. I cant wait to come back. Its rare these days to find a place where everything is absolutely excellent and you have done it.
A. W.
What can I say...excellent service and food as always. My favorite Tapas!
S. R.
Amazing Tapas, loved the lamb skewers and short beef rib. Great service, great venue, must visit!!
D. C.
Simply stunning tapas, a real high end and creative approach to tapas with emphasis on flavours. Great value for money given the quality on offer. A must visit.
j. m.
EXTREMELY professional staff who are very welcoming. The restaurants asmosphere is like a vibrant community. The food is was delicious and on time. Couldn't fault the staff.
THANKYOU for a nice meal.
Can't wait for our next visit!!!
A. B.
Food was amazing and the staff were lovely. Long wait for one of the tapas dishes but when it came it was amazing and tbf it was deducted from the bill. Definitely will be visiting again
A. M.
Excellent food and service. Each dish we chose was very good, and the service from the team was faultless.
Highly recommend this restaurant.
m. l.
Beautiful place making you feel like your in Spain and fantastic food 👍
D. T.
Good food, excellent service. Very impressed.
p. h.
it was OK, service was a bit slow but it was busy, sent my coffee back as it came warm I like mine hot
C. &. D.
Great food and good value, highly recommend.
K. C.
One of the best meals I've ever had.
Food, service and atmosphere were the best.
I'd strongly recommend.
K. H.
Amazing food, you will not be disappointed....
A. D.
We went to El Gato on Friday the 15th October. We used to eat when Simon had his first restaurant in Rippondon. What he has created in Manchester is spectacular. I took my guest from Australia and he loved the place, service and food. We was served on the roof terrace by a young girl called Emma with dark hair. She was absolutely amazing and because of her and the food we will be back very soon. Thank you so much. Andreas Decoza
A. B.
Wonderful meal, wonderful food and wonderful service. Thank you xx
A. M.
I came here a week or two ago to meet with a friend. I arrived 20 minutes early and was seated straight away. In this time I was asked 3 times what I wanted to drink and I had to repeat that I was waiting for a friend before ordering. It was the 3rd time I was told I only had 1.5 hrs for the booking which had started when I had sat down. My friend arrived on time for the booking but we only had an hour left. We were rushed to order and after finishing were told the table was needed back desperately. I dont understand how this could be since the original booking had an additional 30 minutes left.
The food was nice and drinks were, but the service on this day ruined it.
D. T.
Authentic Spanish Restaurant… great food, and wine, excellent service… highly recommend!
J. L.
Actually they need to improve the quality of the food. Our table was removed from the hustle and bustle, so maybe the lack of atmosphere served to underline it more than would otherwise be the case. But I wild not travel for this.
H. L.
Simply amazing food and service! The perfect place for tapas and some lovely drinks
T. D.
Lovely tapas, great staff, perfect atmosphere
A. O.
Excellent tapas. Attentive service. Glorious sun terrace on the right day. Prices in line with this.
D. M.
Portions were too small for the price imo. Food tasted decent but nothing extraordinary; some didn't have enough salt. I would recommend the tiger prawns - great tenderness and full of flavour.
N. O.
Great food and service. Will def be going back!
L. H.
We love it here! Our 2nd time and many more to follow 😊👌
F. H.
Splendid tapas restaurant. Excellent staff. Every dish flavoursome.
J. S.
Lovely tapas eaten out in the street due to current restrictions. Bit sorry we weren't able to enjoy the roof garden - we didn't know it was currently closed. Only issue was no heaters to keep us warm so we didn't stay as long as our booking was for. Service was fine. 👍
M. S.
Great building and the staff were excellent food really nice. Not the cheapest but it is a prime city centre location.
D. A.
Good food, friendly and helpful staff and nice decor. Limited menu means that it'll be a while before we feel like going back though.
E. C.
Great food, although a little pricey
A. S.
My girlfriend and I went for our first dinner date here. The food and vibe were both good. Staff were friendly and accommodating to our dietary needs. Definitely recommend this place.
D.
Very impressed with the quality of the food and the service. We also sampled a few drinks from their cocktail menu (King Street Fizz and their watermelon-based Negroni), both of which went down a little too easy!
M. M.
my daughter took me here for my birthday. food was lovely. staff exceptionally pleasant. Great ambience
M. E.
Our favourite restaurant in Manchester City Centre! We have just been here for our first meal out since lockdown began and had a fab time. The food, drink and service is still excellent, plus the extra hygiene measures (screens between tables, menus wiped after use etc) made us feel at ease. I'm so glad this place is still going despite the hardships of recent months and look forward to our next visit.
P. L.
Really good tapas. Book ahead for a seat on the terrace. Portion sizes are generous so you only need 2 or 3 plates each.
J. C.
Brilliant, food was gorgeous, tasty and very well presented. Staff couldnt do enough, even advised how many to have for a couple and I think 6-7 dishes is definitely enough for you both. Tiger prawns were brilliantly cooked, nice and fresh and very tasty. Beef skewers were a delight and just fell apart in your mouth with a lovely sauce for them to dip into which I found very tasty 👌 the lamb skewers again cooked to perfection and they too came with a lovely sauce which I thought went well with the lamb. Meatballs were brilliant and very tasty and I would highly recommend going and would definitely be visiting again! Now my favourite tapas in Manchester
S.
Great service! The staff were very friendly, helpful and respectful.
My boyfriend and I had a lovely shared meal on the roof with the top open as the sun was setting. We we blessed great weather in late February. Our meal was made up of 8 different tapas dishes which were 'to die for'. We loved to taste news things. The quality of the cut of meat and fish were of a high standard. The red wine selection is very good. I ordered the same red wine twice as I really enjoyed it. I would definitely eat there again not only because of the excellent food but because the atmosphere was very relaxing and the prices weren't too high. The roof top also feels quiet and private. It is perfect for lunch or dinner while escaping for city life!
H. W.
The steak is so amazing! nice restaurant and staff!
E. W.
Went on the first day of reopening indoors. Good quality service. Food came quickly. The cod croquettes were my favourite along with the rib eye. Nice atmosphere
K. I.
Lovely food! Great atmosphere, would recommend curtains/blinds for the upstairs booth as sun can be blinding!
J. M.
Great Atmosphere, friendly staff and fab food! See you again soon!
N. M.
The best tapas place I've ever been to.
s. a.
Really nice vibe, chilled place, friendly staff, very overcrowded though
J. C.
Very nice atmosphere and food. Struggled to understand some of the menu and had to ask the waiter several times to describe what the food choices were. If you are new to Spanish food you'd struggle knowing what you were ordering. It's won several awards which are displayed around the restaurant. Liked the fact you could see the chefs preparing your food in the open kitchen. The cheesecake is delicious.
S. H.
Food excellent, atmosphere excellent, service excellent, fantastic restaurant
G. R.
One of the best restaurants we have been to in a long long time. Outstanding service, which was not only friendly and courteous but had anticipated our needs (including our little baby) and was happy to assist with any requests. The staff at this restaurant work well together to meet customers needs.
Food was absolutely exquisite. Ranked in order of preference (even though it's hard to decide): shrimps, scotch eggs, grilled carrots and even the simplest ham and cheese bite was made delicious. Looking forward to go back!
S. L.
Loved our evening here. Delicious tapas.
S. B.
Lovely place, service was excellent, wine list had good variety, food was delicious. This is a pricey restaurant but well worth the money.
S. J.
Fabulous visit. Food was exquisite, staff were friendly and attentive, it was a great experience. Restaurant felt clean and safe. Highly recommend
C. S.
Really good food. Popular place so remember to book in advance.
M.
Always a fantastic meal here. Highly recommend.
J. D.
Food is amazing, great service. Can't wait to come back in the summer when the roof terrace is open to sip some cocktails and eat all the tapas
P. R.
Excellent place for a special evening. The Tapas dishes are very tasty and suits every palate and diet preference. The sangria was great . The service is very good and attentive and they leave you alone to have a good time. We were seated on the top floor and the ambience was very good. One of the top restaurants in town . Keep up the good work. Excellent location too
B. S.
Excellent food as always
M. F.
This restaurant has quite the reputation in Manchester so you need to book in order to discover that it's well deserved. The staff are super friendly and professional and the food is amazing, some of the best I've ever had. I've been here on my own just because the food is so good. The bar staff are also great - I asked for an Old Fashioned and the time and care taken was apparent from the first sip to the bottom of the glass.
J. A.
Lovely place and food was great, would recommend it, staff very attentive and helpful.
W. C.
Good food, portions were a little light on meat and very staggered but the service and attentiveness was spot on.
C. C.
Great place!! Had a bit if a wait for a table but hadn't booked so enjoyed a bottle of wine at the bar while waiting!!
The menu was interesting and well though out. When the food came it definitely didn't disappoint, the flavours were spectacular and the attention to detail on each dish was commendable, especially for a busy Friday night!
Would definitely return and highly recommend.
D. C.
The food here is delicious and the service was also excellent. I definitely need to go back as there were so many dishes I'd love to try.
G. P.
Gorgeous food and superb service. Thank you.
D. C.
Terrific food, great service! Atmosphere slightly let down by the screens put up to comply with social distancing etc but that will hopefully change in due course.
A. F.
Great food , good busy atmosphere
A. Y.
A little bit of Barcelona in the heart of Manchester, excellent food, friendly staff, great atmosphere in a cosy venue, even better in summer with the roof open.
A. S.
Wow what an amazing place. Really friendly staff who look after your every need. Spanish tapas Food is so tasty and fresh and cooked to order. Pricing is not too bad for central Manchester . £88 for a meal for 2 including a bottle of red wine. Definately recommended. You won't regret it 👍
I. D.
Best pan con tomate I’ve ever had. Octopus, cauliflower, lamb skewer, goats cheese bocadilla were *chef’s kiss*
A. P.
The food was excellent, with both the traditional tapas dishes, and some really interesting unique ones - the roasted cauliflower dish was especially great. Would definitely recommend!
Be sure to book in advance, because I have tried to walk-in before on a Sunday afternoon, and couldn't get a table for 2!
D. B.
Food was excellent but service was quite slow and with staff having to wear face masks it takes a lot away from the experience. You can hardly make out what is being said and very in -personable. I’d think about that before you go. Appreciate that is not there fault never the less.
M. R.
Had a fabulous evening. The service was spot on, the staff all very polite, attentive and ensured we were having a good time. I haven't tasted food like that in along time absolutely gorgeous and good sized. We were sat on the top floor on beautiful comfy chairs, the atmosphere was excellent!! We will definately be returning.
M. G.
Amazing food and great service. We rang at very short notice and they were able to fit in our party of 15. All dietary requirements were dealt with without any fuss. My American visitors had a great time.
m. w.
We came for lunch on Sunday sitting at the chefs table what was great, the front of house staff was very helpful and some great suggestion for food and a lovely choice of wine. The food was everything I hoped for, very well cooked and it was nice having the chefs passing the food over to us what's a nice touch plus all the chef where very professional and happy to talk with us about how they cooked the food. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes good food and wine 100% will coming back for more food
H. H.
Super busy on a Tuesday evening but the service was faultless. Great selection of tapas, beautifully presented. Refreshing cocktails. And a surprise Happy Birthday treat for my birthday girl. Loved it.
I. C.
Great food and great service. I'll be back!
S. M.
T. D.
Perfect Tapas. Often Spanish tapas restaurants serve lots of dishes at once. Here they perfectly space the food. Lovely
D.
Fabulous tapas - we came just before Christmas and the food was some of the best tapas we have ever had. It is pretty expensive here, particularly compared to other tapas places in Manchester, but the food was up to scratch and worth it. Staff worked hard to find us a table even though it was super busy and the service was great.
l. s.
Excellent service, food and wine!
M. B.
Amazing food, nice surroundings, clean and with good attentive service. Fairly expensive, but the quality of the food more than justified the cost. Party of four was £220 (inc drinks and 10% service charge). The lamb skewers were incredible and I could eat their padron peppers every day and wouldn't tire of them. Very busy but good spacing between tables (at least where we were sat) meant it didn't affect the experience and assured a good atmosphere. Book ahead. Very much recommended.
R. T.
This is my second visit to El gato and it was just as good as the first, if anything let's this place down its the size of table, twice I've been seated as a four on a table which would be lucky to comfortably seat a two. However, the food is exceptional and the selection of wine compliments it perfectly. The dessert menu has changed drastically since the first visit and definitely for the better. I'd absolutely recommend going here if you get a chance, loved it!
P. H.
Limited menu. Not a big selection for a tapas as I was expecting. Food was good. Friendly and helpful staff.
R. M.
Had a really nice meal here for my birthday. The food was really nice and the place had a really relaxed atmosphere. I also just wanted to give a special mention to our server (the girl with the Disney tattoo sleeve) she was lovely and made our experience at the restaurant very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend trying if you haven't already
J. N.
didn't have the best experience in terms of service, food was ok-ish
m. o.
So, there is nothing inherently wrong with this place, indeed the food is lovely, service polite, efficient and helpful. Atmosphere is great, selection more than adequate.
So why three stars you say. Well we are loosing the point of tapas here. Tapas is a couple of euros simple plates of food. Here you are paying £7+ for a plate and realistically you need 3-4 per person. Lunch for 3 (1 child) came to £90 and I was neither drunk nor full afterwards.
Lovely place if you don't mind the cost. I would prefer a more traditional tapas approach, low cost simple food. Let's not make tapas gourmet hey!
P. H.
Great food, recommend the morcilla scotch eggs, delicious!
I. M.
Had a reservation for a evening meal for a group 6. Food was excellent, really great dishes, we had 3-4 each and the deserts were really nice, as a group we really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, very popular choice. Good service but on a busy night, it was a little slow, the whole team tried their best to attend frequently to check everything was OK especially Ella. Would highly recommend If you want authentic Spanish food, will definitely go back again.
W. B.
Great service & awesome food 😋 👍
A. W.
Went here for my anniversary. Booked a table quite far in advance and mentioned the reason for booking to try and get a table with some privacy. They really went over and above, we had a lovely table and attentive staff. They recommended 3 tapas each, we ended up ordering 7, as two were very small, and were completely full by the end. Of all the dishes, my partner and I highly recommend the scotch eggs. These were divine. As a surprise at the end, they gave us a small dish with some fruit to celebrate our anniversary which was so sweet. It was a little on the expensive side, but well worth the quality and service we received.
R. S.
What can I say? One of the best restaurants in Manchester - great food, great service, great looking place. Definitely go here and definitely try the Creme Catalan! I dont like deserts but I ate the whole thing and ordered another!
R. M.
Excellent food and even better service
E. L.
Never been before it was a gift from our daughter at Christmas. We had a lovely meal and really enjoyed the tapas and wine. Staff were friendly and new everything about the meals which was great.
Service- great
Place - chilled
Price- £££
Pre book
M. P.
Delicious food but some dishes had small portions for what you pay so this wasn't a cheap night. The staff were lovely but the food came a little slower than we would have liked. That said it was a relaxed atmosphere and we all had a lovely time.
K. V.
We went here for our first meal out after lockdown and was really impressed with how well managed it was. The service was immaculate and menu is well varied, great location too!
유.
The best tapas I have tried in UK
D. L.
We ordered drinks in the bar downstairs but these took a while to arrive, and the table was ready first. Someone eventually brought our drinks to the table upstairs. It wasn't a big deal, but our first impressions were of disorganisation. In the first 10-15 minutes between arriving and being seated, we came into contact with about 5 different members of staff and we had to remind someone that we were waiting for our table in case the waiter from the restaurant upstairs had forgotten about us (he'd come into the bar but hadn't noticed or spoken to us). It would have been good to know who was in charge front of house - it wasn't obvious where/who we were supposed to report to on arrival. A minor point but first impressions are important.
D. X.
I probably would give 5 star if I did not come back again for Christmas Eve dinner last year. My wife and I went here first time for her birthday and it was perfect for everything. And that was the reason we booked a Christmas Eve set for a group with 7 people. And it turns out that was a mistake. The service was slow and and food was way below the level we were expecting. I drunk 2 litre of water when I came home because it was that salty. And yes, the price was even more expensive as it was Christmas Eve which was something we would not mind if they provided the same level of service and food as we came at the first time.
So I would suggest people come over here during the normal time as you probably would enjoy it and stay away from Christmas dinner. Not worthy it.
I would give 5 for the first time visit and 2 star for the second time, that is how 3 star was given at the end
R. G.
Mixed review really. We were booked in for the meal for 9.30 but called up to see if we could arrive earlier. That was fine if we didn't mind sitting downstairs which we didn't. Lovely deco, staff were friendly and helpful and a nice mixed menu. Downside was that we ended up being there for 3 hours. Normally with tapas you expect to get the dishes as and when ready. We seemed to be getting one at a time which meant by the time the steak arrived (last) we were full, tired and ready to leave and didn't enjoy the one dish we were looking forward to. It meant we couldn't have a bit of meat and veg together. Just one and then the other. I'm not sure if this was a result of being sat downstairs away from the kitchen and at a smaller table. But it wasn't what I would call an enjoyable meal after the first hour.
L. B.
Always delicious and friendly service
C. B.
Every dish was quality food and delicious however the tapas dishes we ordered were brought out randomly and not as we ordered them. This is apparently due to how the chef wants the dishes serving! We wanted to eat certain dishes at the same time. The service was a little slow. Cocktails were lovely.
T. P.
Some of the best tapas in town. The shortrib is incredible!
J. S.
I'd say it's overpriced for what you get. Don't remember a single meal that stood out for me. Also, a quite complicated booking system. Had to choose a preferred menu while booking a table online. Went back to study the menus, chose the one and couldn't have it in the restaurant because it was Sunday, Sunday menus only... Why all the hassle? The interior is very attractive though, especially the bar area downstairs. But I'm more interested in food
😉
I. R.
Very good - among the best Tapas being served in the UK at the moment. great venue. Attentive service! Lovely ambiance.
Avoid anything deep fried or potato based. Croquetas, Tortillas, Patatas Bravas - These need to be cooked in and with heart attack quantities of oil/fat to be done authentically, and don't really work unless you do.
Stand out Padron Peppers, and Green Beans!
Went again and the non deep-fried dishes are getting better, The Croquetas were still a disappointment.

Staff very helpful and friendly. Good choice of food wine and drinks. Very safe.

We booked an evening here for a rare date night and had a great meal. The staff were great and served with a smile! The food was brilliant and it was impossible to choose from the menu. Very easy to eat too much. Leave space for desert!
A. W.
Wonderful place, atmosphere is cosy but modern twist. Service can be a bit slow and I personally would like a larger cocktail menu but certainly doesn't detract from the amazing food.
J. C.
The ambience was nice, the staff were very friendly and the food was nice. The pork belly and chicken thighs were the best out of the selection we ordered, though I have enjoyed better tapas elsewhere and for a much lower price. I felt some of the dishes were overpriced for both the quality and quantity provided. I might return, though there are other restaurants nearby which I prefer, if people were to ask me for a nice tapas in Manchester I would suggest it but under the proviso that they should expect to pay more than elsewhere for a similar quality.

I've been to quite a few tapas places in Manchester but this one was my favourite. We were offered seats at the counter overlooking the kitchen and were mesmerised for 90 minutes watching the talented chefs at work. Despite being very busy they always looked calm and professional, and even took the time to chat to us!
The food was sensational. Big portions of fresh flavoursome tapas that I couldn't fault at all.
The service was incredibly attentive and friendly.
Highly recommended.
P. S.
Friendly staff and a nice surroundings. Enjoyed the toasted bread with fresh tomato and, surprisingly, the carrots. I think the seafood rice thing could have done with spicing up a little but I think it may be a personal preference. Would definitely go back. Oh and the oyster tasted fresh and went down a treat.

Nice place, nice foods and nice service. 👍

We used to be regulars in Ripponden before we moved to Devon, so it was finally good to see the new place and we were not disappointed.
S. F.
Lovely, place. Good for a cosy date and good for a meal out with friends. Tried a few of the tapas, all good but some exquisite. It's pricey but for a good experience and a treat it's well worth it. The patatas bravas, chargrilled lamb skewers, salt cod croquettes and Catalan bread deserve special mention. You would also like to know that the top floor can be hired for functions too.
A. S.
Lively place for a drink, and very tasty tapas. Would recommend the ribs and Mini doughnuts in particular. Slow service to start with on saturday lunchtime, but picked up after they put more staff in the kitchen. Needed the table back after 2 hours, but due to slow service we had only just finished. Manager was very good and knocked the desserts off the bill. Staff very good.

I had been lusting after this restaurant for ages, after seeing it in the Michelin Guide. Unfortunately it was quite a let down. The food wasn’t very nicely present, and tended to have a dollop of sour cream on everything as garnish. The biggest issue we had (and we worked in service a long time so we aren’t usually picky) was the service. The waitress was not professional and very informal, for a relatively formal restaurant. When there was a mix up with the drinks it was very unpleasant and we we asked for recommendations the waitress was rude. The entire experience was very lackluster and made worse by very poor service. Wouldn’t recommend unfortunately!
C. D.
Fantastic flavours for all of the food and good value with selected dishes 3 for £15 at lunch. Would recommend chicken thighs which really packed a punch and meatballs were best I've ever had. Great place, can't wait to go back 😁
V. L.
All the food was good, typical Spanish narrow bar style but comfortable seating and good service
c. r.
Truly wonderful tapas. Portion sizes do appear small for tapas but they are surprisingly filling. The food is well prepared and highly enjoyable. Only slight niggle is the absurd pressure of having to eat, drink and finish within two hours, it somewhat tapers the enjoyment when you are clock watching.
S. J.
Excellent food and great service. Visited a few weeks ago and just managed to get round you writing the review. The Sangria is so good, in fact too good 😀 friendly staff would definately go again.
N. B.
Fantastic best place to eat in Manchester, as a chef for ten years, I was looking for something affordable but memorable, this is certainly it. I sat at the chefs table and had the lamb skewers and squid. The lamb was so beautiful, cooked to perfection with sauces that complemented it to Create a truly delectable dish. Will definitely go back and the staff were friendly and helpful as well as attentive especially as I was dinning alone. I was made to feel very welcome and enjoyed watching the skillful chefs prepare this delightful food.
C. M.
Superb restaurant, spread across many floors with staff who are friendly, helpful and professional. Food is delicious, and although tempting, don't order more than 2-3 dishes per person. Also, leave room for dessert - the mini doughnuts are amazing! Highly recommended. Allow for about 2 hours when visiting.
N. H.
For a vegan option, the food tapas were delicious. Service was superb. Food came out fast and hot. 3 for £15 deal available.
C. M.
Great food, friendly service, loved the atmosphere and open kitchens.
H. W.
It has recently won a few awards so thought it was about time to try it out after walking past nearly everyday. Food was really good, if not the best tapas I’ve had in the U.K. and the best croquettes I have ever eaten! Although the star of the show was the chargrilled chicken thighs. Have to say though the prices are pretty steep even for how good it is. 7 tapas, 2 cocktails, large wine and 1/2 pint. £80 inc service.
E. W.
Tasty dishes. Perhaps not the best for young children, but our 9 and 11 year old enjoyed it. Second time we've been. Very attractive restaurant. We'll go again.
S. M.
Great food, great staff!
E. L.
Gorgeous food & lovely drinks.
Charlotte served us, she couldn’t of been any better!!
Will be back

Not as impressed the visit as I was my last! Atmosphere might have been slightly dimmed by the fact we were stuck in a glomu corner behind a screen, but it didn't feel intimate or cosy. Props to them for some of their covid measures - the screens are aesthetically lovely and a clever privacy measure to boot, just not brilliant if your table isn't near a window/light! Staff aren't wearing masks, and the only hand sanitizer I saw was at the entrance. They're also doing a slightly odd thing of not offering jugs of tap water (during a heatwave!!) due to infection control reasons, presumably in order to sell more of their fancy water. The food was nice, but not as special as I remember, and the cocktails were so-so.
J. M.
I would agree with a previous reviewer that the prices are a bit steep for what you get. The place is great and the atmosphere was buzzing. Service was ok but we had to wait 15 minutes even though we had made a reservation. The food is good, but you can get food of just as good a standard within half a mile and pay a lot less for it. Having said that, I'm sure we will go again.
L. B.
Great environment, friendly staff, amazing food with a great selection and rather lovely cocktails and wine.
Particular food favourites wet the Pork skewers, tortilla, mini chorizo and octopus.
Useful tip, don't fill yourselves up on mains (as we did) as the desserts look amazing too.
A. C.
Attentive service, nice decor and ambience but the food is just ok. It may be that I have had the fortune to taste the most amazing Spanish tapas both in Spain and abroad and therefore my expectations are incredibly high.
The menu is not the most inventive.
Overall there is nothing wrong with the place, but it could deliver more. The potential is there.
G. I.
Not their fault, but paying for a bottle of bubbly and having to drink it from a plastic decanter is not my idea of a good night out. (This only applies to outside tables and is a local council restriction)
J. K.
The food was really great, on the pricey side but good all the same.
The major problem was the time it took for the food to come out of the kitchen. We ordered 7 tapas dishes and it took 2hrs between the first and last dish arriving.
I'm not sure if we'd been forgotten about, there was a change of waiter during our meal, maybe there was a change of shift on the kitchen also but 2hrs to be served 7 small dishes from the standard menu is unacceptable.
We may just have had bad luck, other tables arrived as we were finishing off our meal and they received their food withing 10 - 15 minutes of ordering.
M. O.
Lovely Spanish restaurant with retractable roof on top floor. Fabulous tapas at reasonable prices and lovely staff. Easy relaxed atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place. Booking is advisable at busy times
Y. G.
Wow!! What an amazing tapas. Really good quality food, nice ambiance and very helpful staff
I. K.
We had the lunch menu option of 3 dishes for £15. All were well presented, tasty and decent quantities.
Definitely recommended for a lunchtime treat with colleagues or friends
J. C.
We have visited for lunch on a few occasions and it is always outstanding. Lots of variety, highest quality food, superb friendly service and realistic prices. The ambience is fantastic and the décor really interesting and original. Most impressive of all is the authenticity of the food (and the Spanish beers!!). You could be in Spain.
M. P.
Couldn’t fault the place. Got seated mid lunch rush and staff were polite and attentive despite a busy service. Food was reasonably priced and tasted exceptional. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for Spanish tapas!
C. F.
Fantastic food. Great ambience. Reasonably priced. Not cheap but great night out.
G. P.
Loved the food, I feel the wine is expensive, but service was excellent! I do feel you can eat the same quality food for less (San Juan in Chorlton, however this is a no frills place and you cannot reserve tables). But if you are looking for the restaurant experience and good tapas in the city centre, this is the place to be.
K. W.
Went on Easter Monday lunchtime. Food was superb. Hake was the best. Beautiful bottle of wine for the price. Staff were friendly and professional. I loved it. We eat out all of the time and this was one of the best.
Please don't change a thing.
T. M.
Beautiful food, would've been 5* however only 1 type of beer available when there should've been several and 3 of the fish dishes were off. Also first waitress was terrible, no real customer service skills however we did get a better waiter half way through
S. J.
The food is okay, although not particularly authentic. The staff are pleasant and proficient. However.... Very expensive. £120 for two; and myself and my partner had just a couple of glasses of wine each. There are other tapas restaurants in the city that do it better and cheaper.
D. W.
We’ve eaten here twice so far and really enjoyed it. The food is good, there’s a wide variety of drinks to choose from and the staff are highly attentive and friendly. It’s also worth noting that on both occasions, we’ve been with our toddler and the staff have made a fuss of her each time which is a lovely touch. Can’t wait to eat here again.
G. H.
It was ok.... A little disappointed to be honest
L. S.
Lovely food and choice. Staff helpful and attentive but not overly so
A. S.
Great food and amazing seats next to the kitchen watching everything being prepared. Brilliant sangria (but no jug options, only by the glass!) and really lovely atmosphere. Quite expensive but worth it for a treat.
A. B.
Been here twice and had great service both times. The food itself is spot on, plenty to choose from and everything I've ordered is full of flavour. Good ambiance too
K. R.
Friendly and knowledge staff. Got the balance right on level of service.
Food was tasty.
V. K.
If you’re here, get the beef short rib. Delicious, amazing, incredible. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere.
L. K.
Good Michelin guide restaurant in the Manchester city centre. The chargrilled chicken thigh dish was decent and tender. Other dishes I had were just okay (cod croquettes and a starter dish). This place is quite expensive as they recommend ordering 2-3 dishes per person but the lunch set menu may be worth it.(£15 for 3 dishes)
v. h.
Beautiful food, waitress who seated us was absolutely lovely due to the current situation made us feel very welcome and safe. Highly recommend!
A. D.
Visited for my birthday and brilliant service! The staff were very efficient and even checked if there was anything I need to avoid as was visibly pregnant, which I thought was a lovely gesture. Food is pricey but so delicious! Definitely heading back soon!
T. M.
Very good food and friendly staff. My wife is vegetarian so eating out is often disappointing for her. But here, not only were there many meatless options but they were imaginative and well prepared.
J. B.
Food excellent. Jambon croquets would be my recommendation . Service very excellent. Food came fast, used plates taken away fast. Happy.
S. B.
Absolutely awesome. No fuss. Simple Tapas. Good service. Lovely ambience. Highly recommend the Octopus and Shellfish Rice. Not your cheapest. Not the most expensive. Charcuterie b board was devine. Spanish cheese selection was very pleasant
S. E.
The tapas is next level and delicious as well.
L. R.
Went here for my 30th Birthday. Enjoyed being seated at the Chef's table. Great food and great value. Was fun watching the food being cooked. Would definitely go there again.
C. S.
The food was brilliant! The service was outstanding, friendly and knowledgeable staff were amazing! Perfect for a few tapas in a trendy area! A little slice of Spain!
C. W.
Brilliant food, atmosphere and service

Great service and lovely staff. Food was delicious and the House wine was lovely
A. M. M.
Service, food and decor was amazing definitely gold star experience
S. E.
Delicious food, lovely atmosphere and some gorgeous wine. Service was spot on, the food came quickly. Loved the meal here and can't wait to go back

Great food, decor and staff. A lovely touch for my hubby’s birthday - thank you! 🥰

Managed to get a table on the third floor and the roof was open, fantastic to sit in the sun. Food as always was amazing particularly the prawns, iberico ham with a celeriac remoulade and of course patatas bravas. Love it here if you've never been it's definately worth a visit
G. R.
Been twice - both times it's been excellent. The chefs taste every dish before it leaves the kitchen. The food is really tasty and filling. Staff are knowledgable and friendly.
K. T.
Great food- the potions were just right! Lovely clean place with an incredible top floor- the sky cleared up so they were able to open the roof! Was really impressed with the staff too! Amazing experience and would love to go back :)
R. H.
Amazing meal! Lovely tapas, a little different and exciting compared to others in the area. Very tasty and cooked well!
A. P.
Food amazing fantastic choice and quality. Service also really good. Atmosphere a little flat, would probably ask to sit on the mid level as that seemed more lively
G. W.
Very very good food. Great service. Will be visiting again soon
A. R.
I’ve heard many good reviews for this place, so was slightly disappointed with my experience. We ordered a range of tapas to share for our table of four - none of it blew me away. The pig’s cheek was tasty enough, as was the roasted aubergine. I also really enjoyed the patatas bravas. However, the grilled octopus was a little rubbery and the Catalan bread was soggy. The chorizo in cider was also disappointing - mostly cider in the dish and not much chorizo. For prices such as these, I’d expect better quality.
D. H.
We had a lovely leisurely couple of hours savouring a wonderful lunchtime meal. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are both knowledgeable and very helpful. We've been before and will go again.
A. C. W.
Well worth a visit, great food and wine selection. Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Can get pricey so keep an eye on the amount of dishes you order.
P. H.
This restaurant is fantastic. The food was lovely & good value. The service was absolutely excellent & wish I had got the waiters name, in order to personally thank him.
I. B.
First visit. Great food, staff extremely helpful. Nice setting. Would recommend and certainly visit again. Thanks for lovely evening
M. M. D.
Went there to celebrate my friend's engagement. The food was amazing but portions a bit small for the prices, most of us had to order two of each to not feel hungry anymore. Lovely place though.
T. C.
Delicious tapas! The ox cheek was superb. Bit of a wait for our (pre-booked) table as they were so busy, but they threw in a free dish by way of apology. We had two dishes each and that was plenty, came to just over £30 each, including drinks and tip, so quite reasonable.
A. W.
When arriving the service was impeccable and friendly. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed with the food appearing as and when it was ready. The food itself was delicious especially the pork and the ribs. £30-45 per person depending on your appetite.
A. B.
I've never been here before , so first visit.
I went on a Thursday and it was very busy so I suggest you book.
It's on king street , an affluent part of Manchester so smart casual dress although I did wear fish nets and docs ;)
The food was amazing , I'm a vegetarian and I honestly don't think I've tasted vegetables from the gods like that, the three dishes I had were amazing , I also had a vegetarian bread too which was equally amazing .
There are several vegetarian options and only one isn't available to us due to the Manchego cheese , so other than that you have at least 6/7 dished to choose from .
I have honestly never had such tasty well cooked professional vegetarian food.
My date was a meat eater, so obviously I cannot comment on the taste , only relay his views.
He loved it , it did look well presented and the meat portions are considerably larger .
He had a full sea bream , chicken in a sauce and a full sirloin steak with fondant potatoes so he was super full afterwards and he loved every mouthful and said it was amazing.
The desserts sound amazing and I was disappointed that I was limited to 2 excluding cheese (cheese is not a dessert lets face it ) as there was geletine in all the desserts I wanted .
For a non vegetarian you have some excellent dessert choices.
We shared a creme dessert , like a brulee which was delicious, I really did want to have a little more option without geletine in the sauces though personally.
The staff were extremely attentive , were very considerate of me having a crutch and they were extremely knowledgeable of the menu and very understanding whilst I googled if the wine was vegetarin/vegan (yes guys that's a thing)
The atmosphere was happy and jovial and id definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants an extravagant treat or you can genuinely afford it .
The inside is also gorgeously presented, cosy and modern but eclectic at the same time .
I had a first date there and if I never see him again I'm glad to have experienced such fantastic food and lovely friendly staff.
Recommend 100%

Delicious! A tasty delight from start to finish. All the dishes we selected were freshly made and served with a smile. A great eating experience. Thank you El Gato.
C.
Delicious food, great staff! Can't wait to go again!
M. C.
An excellent, relaxed location. Food mostly great, a few dishes amongst many not quite as ace. Service is great, attentive engagement with us. Drinks service was good. Fast food delivery.
t. h.
Great atmosphere and amazing tapas .beef short rib and lamb in particular was amazing.
S. L.
Great value lunch time offers but beware the vinegar in a wine bottle.
In fairness the food was good value for the money but I wish I had paid twice and got
A better standard.
Its clean and the staff are well behaved. Great location on Deansgate....you can eat your patatas bravas watching the bus fill up at the bus stop immediately in front of your table. Its lively and vibrant which is what tapas needs....
Top tip.....dont get the house red
C. A.
Lovely food and the best margarita I've ever had!
J. D.
Great tapas even for vegetarians! Good atmosphere and good staff. A little pricey for students like me but actually not bad for the quality! Small portions so order lots and share is my advice (:
D. L.
Nice place, very nice food with a good menu. Little slow on drinks service once your seated and the glass work behind the downstairs bar wants cleaning but overall, a decent place for some good tapas
C. M.
Great place that never fails to exceed expectations. Food is delicious but it's the staff that really make this place. Their knowledge and passion for every item on the menu is incredible. Always look forward to visiting 😊
P. P.
Fantastic food and cocktails. Menu changing regularly and supplemented by specials. Great service and a lovely atmosphere all round. A tad pricey for me but well worth the expense.
G. P.
Fantastic lunch time (12pm - 5pm, Mon - Fri) tapas menu (3 plates for £15). The dessert chocolate brownie is very nice and very filling.
L. K.
Lovely food plenty of choice, didn't feel rushed between ordering different dishes
